Guest Reviews
- Sieglinde (6/5): Convenient but not very comfortable - It is very central Room was cramped and bathroom even more so
- Janet (9/5): - Location
Friendly staff
Clean Room very small but we knew that when we made booking
- Vanessa (8/5): - Great location. Good breakfast. Parking is a bit hit and miss. Best to park at Canterbury West Station.
- Helen (8/5): - Very steep narrow stairs and the shower was tricky to use and had our heads in the window to stand up. Better for short people maybe recommend for use by 5ft tall adults.
- Amit (8/5): 👍👍 - Nice good Very good

- Rehna (9/5): A cosy, charming, well located place with a good breakfast - The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was very good. It’s very well located. The wash basin in the bathroom was very small.
- shane (10/5): Second stay just as good as the first time being here. - Second time staying, comfortable everything you need. Loved it not a bad thing to say.
- Nick (7/5): Great location, small space - Great location, great breakfast! Very small room, could not shower while standing straight
- Roland Theo (4/5): Niet ok. - Lokatie dicht bij het centrum. Geen parkeerplaats in de buurt, wel besproken. Geen ontbijt, wel besproken en betaald. Zeer kleine kamer en minuscule badkamer. Absoluut veel te duur voor het gebodene.
- Hannah Uglow (8/5): -
- Franziska (8/5): - Die Lage Es fehlen Steckdosen

- Kevin (7/5): It's a very nice place to stay when visiting Canterbury - Location and cleanliness They didn't make the arranged traveling breakfast on the day I departed. Paid for but not delivered.
- Rachel (10/5): Cozy room with a view - This place was amazing! I would love to live in the top floor where they put me. Just the way I like it with the slanted ceiling, electric kettle in the room, nice view, and bathtub big enough to lay in.
The dining room was quaint with local decor and the breakfast was good and satisfying. Farm fresh eggs and yummy fruit salad along with the full English breakfast. The housekeeping ladies were so sweet and helpful.
I was also a huge fan of the location. Close enough to all the sites (10 - 15 mins walking) but far enough not to hear traffic and noise of people. The water in the sink got very hot, but the water water from the shower was only warm. Sometimes the toilet was difficult to flush completely or it took a few times.
- Lisa (8/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Eleonora (10/5): - Perfrect location and room, and amazing staff!
- Märta (6/5): - Lovely staff who accommodated us when we had several issues with the rooms. Made sure we were comfortable. Had to change rooms 3 times, due to several issues. Dirty shower, shower that was difficult to turn on, extremely cold room, but got a good room eventually, however no hot water the last two days of the stay.
- Derek (7/5): Acceptable for one night stay - Location No staff for check-in or to answer any questions. Keypad to enter building, keypad to restriction key….nobody in sight.
- Juliane (9/5): -
- Gareth (8/5): -
- Ella (10/5): Thank you - Very cozy and beautiful house with a garden.
- Christina (8/5): - Location N/a
- Margaret (4/5): We managed and breakfast was nice but we weren't at all comfortable. - Breakfast was nice. TV in room. Lovely shower but shower cubicle small. There is no one on site late afternoon or evening and getting into the property was challenging with codes etc. One evening we had to help a couple who had lost their emails so had no way of getting in the property.
Room was cold some of the time and the beds very uncomfortable. Draughty single glazed windows. Ran out of toilet rolls and cups etc weren't changed each day.
The advert stated parking but we thought this very misleading as the nearest was a 5/10 minute walk away and cost £15 a day. We struggled with our luggage because of this.
- Paul (10/5): I travelled to Canterbury for a family funeral looking for a quiet and clean hotel which the hotel p - It hotel is peaceful and quiet, I was never disturbed by any type of noise. The breakfast was traditional and well cooked. The toaster should be positioned away from the kettle for safety reasons.

- Karen (9/5): We stay in Canterbury often visiting family and will definitely stay here again, having access to a garden during our st - Great Garden for guests to use.
Beautifully clean , great location.
Staff very helpful.
Delicious breakfast Mattress not quite as comfortable as I hoped.
- Marcus (9/5): -
- Gary (7/5): - Great location Nothing
- Sinfield (9/5): - The Inn is in an excellent location. Very good value for money. A comfortable room, very pleasant, efficient staff and an excellent breakfast.
- Vittorio (9/5): -
- A_Anna_C (10/5): Charming historical Inn close to the old city - Very personal and charming Bed and Breakfast in a former pub, at 5 minutes walk from the Westgate. The room was warm and cozy. Our host was very helpful and accommodating with our requests and took the time to make us feel at home. Amazing English breakfast with lots of options. Make sure you browse through the information binder in the rooms with suggestions of things to do and places to eat. It's an old house with a vibrant history and has its shortcomings: tight and steep stairs and small private bathroom. But this is all part of the experience!
- Leo (7/5): -
- Alexandra (10/5): It was a great stay! I’d suggest getting there with daylight as it can be a little scary at night. The staff was vey nic - Everything The location, but that’s not on the property
- Maxine (7/5): -
- Jennifer (8/5): Convenient location & a nice place to stay - Location was great. The room was on the top floor and had low ceilings but it was nice. The water in the cold tap was warm & didn’t go cold.
- Jessica (10/5): - Struttura bellissima, molto caratteristica! Personale gentilissimo e disponibile!
- Michele (6/5): Location is a great! - In walking distance to the city centre Few things didn’t work such as TV. Difficult to find a parking space in the street.
- Mark (6/5): Dated, clean, good value for a central Cambridge night stay. - The room was warm, beds comfortable with nice clean cotton sheets & towels. The location was great, easy parking 5 mins walk in a well lit multi-storey car park at the train station. Great cooked breakfast. OK for 1 night & good value. Steep narrow staircase. Very tiny bathroom, cold water was hot. Carpets seen better days. One of the plug sockets didn’t work. Quite a noisy room with mini fridge & I think water heating up. Only saw a member of staff at breakfast who took our order, polite but no niceties.
- Joerg (8/5): -
- valerie (10/5): Excellent - Great place , friendly staff, breakfast choices where excellent. Location 10 mins walk from the buses and train.
- Emma (10/5): Great location, self checkin clean and cute - Clean, great location great amenities in the room The cold water in the bathroom was insanely hot for a while! Hated wasting the water to get it cool!
- Martine (6/5): More of an Airbnb with breakfast - Great location for the centre
Bathroom was ok No actual parking and even nowhere to park within walking distance
Cold breakfast
Room needs redecorating and fixing marks on the ceiling and in the bathroom
Plus standing in the shower is difficult and the shower had instructions on how to use but was not hot enough
- Guest (3/5): - Poor/non-existent Wi-fi
Blocked shower tray which led to toilet waste coming up into the sink
No parking
No heat controls -room unbearably hot
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Harris (8/5): Perfect accommodation for our 1 night in Canterbury to visit Christmas markets - Excellent location, breakfast good, excellent value for money Too warm in rooms and public areas.
- Ann-Sophie (7/5): -
- shane (10/5): A Gem of place and a bang for your bucks. - Warm, cosy, felt like a home away from home lovey garden, peaceful. Amazing breakfast and amazing stuff. And great prices you definitely get your money worth here. I liked everything about it.
- MPalis (8/5): Central Location. - Central Location in Canterbury. Breakfast was basic well cooked and as expected. Staff was very friendly. Hotel was clean. Easy to check in and check out. My room was in the attic. It was small. Not recommended for 2 people unless its just for sleep. Steep stairs (it was advertised) to reach the room. A little bit difficult if you have suitcases
- John (9/5): -
- Hayley (8/5): Lovely little place - The Black Horse Inn was exactly as described. Communication was excellent—clear instructions on how to enter, where to park, and everything else you need. Inside, the décor is old-fashioned; it may not suit everyone, but it has its charm and delivers what it promises. The bed is comfortable, the shower is hot, and the heating works well. The location is excellent for walking into Canterbury. If you want more luxury, you’ll have to pay for it elsewhere. Room was a bit on the small side.
- Michael (8/5): - Quiet, cheap and good location. I couldn't seem to lock my door, not sure if the lock wasn't working or it was difficult to manage
- Mick (8/5): -
- Antonello (9/5): -
- Lutz (10/5): -
- Molly (7/5): -
- Chiu Kit (8/5): - Near Canterbury West station and price includes breakfast Room is small and no table or chair
- Julie (9/5): -
- Ugo (9/5): - Very comfortable and clean room. The breakfast was delicious.
- Ernst (7/5): -
- Eileen (8/5): Would recommend as a bnb. - Very clean and comfortable and an excellent breakfast. I loved the period furniture that made it feel home from home. The bed was very comfortable too. The ensuite bathroom was very tiny although the shower itself was great.
- Carol (7/5): Good value, good location but small room - Good location, nice breakfast Attic room was too small for two people, there was no room to move and the bathroom was far too small.
- Christelle (8/5): Proche du centre, propre, petit déjeuner copieux, personnel agréable - Localisation, personnel sympathique Literie
- Tomas MERI (8/5): - Staff wonderful. Quiet street. Lovely cozy room. Super clean. Positively surprised. Old pub converted to hotel so you can be unlucky with where room is located. Not sound proof. Odd with no real reception.
- karen (9/5): -
- Karen (7/5): -
- Hilary (9/5): Lovely characterful property, cosy rooms that were clean and well presented. - Cosy and well presented. Easy check in. Nice breakfast. Great location. My room had a bath which was a bonus after a long day cycling! WiFi not the best
- Eider (3/5): - Location and garden - no wifi in the last floor you need to sit on the stairs to get some.
- twin room is in the roof room and to shower your head was in the window hole with a metal so you couldn’t move or wash your head.
- if you are taller than 1.55 do not book this room.
- Carl (10/5): - A hidden gem, real good value for money and you get a breakfast
- Natercia (9/5): I will happily stay again. - The entrance way was nicely decorated (autumn), and felt very inviting. Instructions how to get in, were clear and easy. Breakfast and cleaning staff were very friendly and attentive. Room was comfortable (room 1). As I was staying a bit more than a few days loved that I could open the doors to small back garden for fresh air especially when I had to work a few hours in the room. Location was perfect for my needs, close to Canterbury West Train station, close enough to centre and main bus station (a comfortable walk) while at same time super easy to go up to Kent University or catch bus to one of the seaside towns.
- Caroline (10/5): - Exceptionally clean. We had a twin room at the top on the 2nd floor. It had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Very comfortable, a fridge and good choice of tea/coffee etc.
Location is great for easy walking to the high street and restaurants. We were able to park close by during the free of charge hours. We will visit again. All good.
- Keenan (8/5): -
- jean marc (8/5): - Accueil, chambre petite mais efficace, breakfast. Parking dans la rue
- David (1/5): APPALLING - Nothing Loose carpets over which I tripped immediately on arrival. Sink too small to allow kettle to be filled so we had to go to the bar in the dark to get water - more loose carpets. Extraction not working in the bathroom so we had to open the door to let condensation out. Bathroom miniscule - very difficult to maneuver. Passers by banged on our street facing windows. Room smelt dusty. Breakfast had cardboard bacon and tough sausages. When I complained staff just shrugged their shoulders. A phone call to the manager failed to get a response. We left a day early. No offer of refund or any contact whatsoever. Utterly APPALLING place ! AVOID this disgraceful place.
- Stephen (8/5): Good value for money, a few small improvements would make it excellent - Location excellent, near the City centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good and promptly served. Real coffee and cafetiere in the bedroom was a real bonus. Door catch between bedroom and bathroom difficult to work. Wash basin drain somewhat blocked. Automatic light between bedroom and bathroom very annoying at night when one partner went to the bathroom - no way of deactivating.
- L-L (10/5): Good location - Clean , near train station , good breakfast None
- nil (7/5): -
- Jean-Baptiste (8/5): Great for a short stay - Nice, spacious room, delicious breakfast and very professional and sympathetic staff. A few minutes walk from the old city and the train station. Apparently, all the rooms are quite different, so take the time to chose to be sure you're comfortable. The room could be freshened a little. The bed is a little narrow. Heard other clients complain about their rooms so take the time to chose yours.
- Lance (8/5): - Location was very walkable to everything. Breakfast was included and the breakfast service was very good. The bed was not very comfortable and the pillows were very flat. I liked the overall vibe of the place, the courtyard was nice.
- Manuel (6/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): -
- Julius (8/5): -
- Peter (8/5): -
- Úna (8/5): - The staff were very friendly and lovely! The kitchen could accommodate me as a coeliac and provide a gluten free breakfast which was great!
Aardige bediening.
- Phyl (9/5): - Cleanliness friendly and very comfortable Nothing
- Martyn (9/5): - breaky
- Gill (5/5): Mostly good except for the above - Good location, clean and good breakfast A) 19.00 check in is ridiculous! I requested earlier and the reply was that they’d do their best to accommodate it. No yes or no answer
B) there was no wifi in my room. Mine was Room 3, so not too far up in the building. I doubt other guests got wifi
C) the shower was warm, but when I turned it up to get it a bit hotter, the water stopped completely. A hot shower would have been good
- Cornelius (8/5): Klasse Herberge - Die Lage war sehr gut. Kurze Wege ins Zentrum. Nichts 😀
- Emiel (5/5): - Breakfast Room 4 : too small
