Guest Reviews
- Christa (9/5): Magical time at Tirta Ayu - Food was awesome and the staff is what makes this place truly special. The ability to access the gardens after hours when not open to the public made for amazing pictures at our leisure. Place is magical after dark for sure. The room is very authentic feeling, but a little over the top for me. Nothing to add.
- Krishna (10/5): It's magical ❤️ - This property is like fairy tale ,damn beautiful and the hospitality makes it even better.. don't miss this beautiful palace .. stay a night its magical..
- PRINCESS (10/5): Exceptional! Phenomenal! Beautiful! It was the reset I needed after a long flight and drive. - Everything! It was beautiful and the water park was even more breathtaking in person than in the pictures. I liked everything
- Karin (10/5): - Einfach traumhaft

- Ambrish (9/5): - The location is convenient, offering private access to Tirtagangga in evening hours once its closed for public. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, making check-in and the overall experience smooth and pleasant. I particularly enjoyed the on-site restaurant, which served good meal with stunning view of Tirtagangga .
- Sylvie (10/5): -
- Sezanne (10/5): I will return someday - Location was unique, beautiful and private Nothing
- Gopal (7/5): Must stay place if you are heading to Lempuyang. - Friendly and super helpful staff and its location. Overall food menu could have been better.
- david (10/5): Magnifique endroit - Nous avons aimé tout vraiment tout. Parfait
- Henri (8/5): -
- Heidi (10/5): Feels like the Garden of Eden! - Third time here, and again absolutely stunning, unique and the most amazing staff!
- Nikica (10/5): Special thanks to the receptionist Jonta, the wonderful girls in the restaurant, and the helpful gentlemen who assisted - We stayed at Tirta Ayu Hotel, beautifully located inside a royal water palace park, surrounded by stunning nature and a truly peaceful atmosphere.
The receptionist, a lovely and highly professional young woman (I believe her name is Jonta), was extremely helpful and welcoming. The girls in the restaurant were also wonderful, as well as the gentlemen who assisted us with our luggage — all very friendly and attentive.
There is some walking from the entrance of the water palace park to the hotel, but the hotel organises luggage assistance, which makes this completely stress-free.
This area is much quieter than Kuta, Seminyak, or Ubud. Ride-hailing apps like Grab may not always be available, but the hotel will easily arrange a private driver, so transportation is not an issue at all.
Highly recommended for travellers looking for peace, nature, and genuine hospitality. Rainy season in January

- Hass (10/5): Fort agréable et l'accueil etait exceptionnel.Je recommande cet endroit magique. -
- Igor (10/5): Excellent stay! - Ecellent stay!

- carole (10/5): A fabulous little hotel in the most perfect setting - Apart from the obvious incredible setting of Tirta Gangga, The staff were amazing and could do enough for me. They even prepared a breakfast box each morning as I was leaving early on tours without my asking
The location is amazing and you have use of the gardens outside of opening hours
The hotel is a little walk from entrance but the staff help carry your bags to and fro
The restaurant is good and I thoroughly enjoyed my meals there. They also gave me free afternoon tea
I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel if you are traveling to the east side. It’s such a good place to set off early to see prime tourist attractions such as Lempuyan temple which is just a few minutes away, as well as the water gardens themselves
The older style room was comfortable, clean, had a/c and everything you would need. The swimming pool in front of my room was so welcome It was quite a walk from main gate but staff were helpful and security will let your driver through at early morning
- Jane Sonia (8/5): Interesting stay inside the wTergarden.. - The setting is exceptional.
When the public go home you have the watergarden to yourself.
The swimming pool in the watergarden is wonderful. The water feels healing and cool and soft on the skin. We loved it We were in Villa 3. The room and bathroom were a little tired but we were comfortable enough.
- Emma (10/5): Superbe ! - Le personnel est très attentionné, lieu magnifique
- Vanessa (7/5): - Authentic Balinese décor, incredibly clean, and super friendly staff. A wonderful place to stay for a night.
- Ellen (9/5): -
- Marlies (10/5): - Staff very friendly and great customer service, beautiful setting and very special to have the water palace all to yourself at night. There was a bit of a musky smell in the room. We kept the window open at night and it helped.
- Eric-Jan (9/5): Peaceful Retreat with Outstanding Service- Great Instagram spot for your kids. - Tirta Ayu Hotel is a hidden gem inside the beautiful Tirta Gangga Water Palace. The setting is peaceful and unique, but what truly made our stay special was the incredible service, especially from the hotel manager. They were attentive, kind, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Highly recommended! The breakfast menu was outstanding—fresh, varied, and well-prepared. For dinner, while the setting and service were excellent, I felt the quality of the menu could be elevated a bit to better reflect the generally high culinary standards found throughout Indonesia. A few more refined or locally inspired options would make the experience even more memorable.
- Jurgen (10/5): - De locatie is prachtig Het ontbijt viel tegen
- Aakanksha (9/5): Good location; no bidet spray - The location is perfect.
The food was also good; especially Chai. There are no bidets (spray)in any of the washrooms in any of their rooms. Very shocking for Indonesia, as that facility is available in most hotels here, even the cheap ones.
When we asked about it, we were told that their hotel is by "International standard"! 😆
No, it is not. It is not even Indonesian standard - which is better in this case especially.
Thankfully, the staff was helpful and they brought us water bottles.
🙏🏼
I hope that this huge omission is fixed by the management soon.
- Guinevere (9/5): Superb -
- Andy (8/5): Very good - Great location inside the main gardens with amazing out of hours visiting experience. Garden view from restraunt was amazing although the food was a little bit average.
- Raj (4/5): Disappointing - Quiet environment Room smell of wood, bed sheet had stain
- Bhanu (5/5): Passable -
- Jyrki (8/5): Ainutlaatuinen pieni hotelli temppelialueella - Ainutlaatuinen pieni hotelli temppelialueen sisällä.
- Indira (10/5): Lovely stay but very secluded - Extremely beautiful, staff very helpful and friendly! Very secluded, restaurant closes early. And very difficult to get a taxi
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - The exceptional location and the very welcoming staff. We only stayed one night.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iris (10/5): Hidden gem - The service was just as incredible as the location. I'm surprised that it is not fully booked all the time! A hidden gem of you ask me. What's very cool is that you can walk around the Tirta Gangga 24/7 so you have the place all to yourself, as well as the public and private pool!! (private pool only for guests) Parking is across the street so we brought our luggage all the way from parking up to the hotel (mid Tirta Gangga). However, on the way out the staff helped us so I recommend walking in first without luggage. Then you can share the load together
- Eddie (10/5): Exceptional - Having access to the water palace at night without the crowds was exceptional.
- Ramakrishnan (9/5): Wonderful and comfortable experience - Courteous staff. They provided a free upgrade as well. Great location. East Bali attractions are at ease of access and with an hour's drive.
The restaurant was also a pleasant experience.
- Melissa (10/5): A stunning location that once belonged to the King and the staff made us feel like we were kings. - Tirta Ayu is located in the grounds of the popular Tirta Gangga water temple giving special access after all the tourists have left. It is like it becomes your private pleasure garden.
The restaurant looks over the water gardens and is the perfect location to enjoy a wonderful meal with prime views.
A very special and unique location.
- davidmK7984HW (10/5): Boutique accomodation at water palace - Stayed I night at Raja villa and Superior villa. Raja villa is very boutique with grand styling and great quirky bathroom. Good breakfast.
Good pool shared between 5 or 6 rooms plus own plunge pool. In palace grounds so direct access to gardens when closed to public in evening and early morning.
- Laura (10/5): Magical place ! - We loved our stay at Tirta Ayu hotel. The place is amazing as it is in the Water palace and enjoying the temple while it is closed is a privileged experience.
The staff is very kind and helpful. We were welcomed with drinks then an afternoon tea with the amazing view on the temple. The room was clean and comfortable and beautifully furnished, with a good bed. There were many swimming pools, one small for the room and a large shared one, and we could also bathe in some of the temple bassins. the whole experience is really magical. As the place is so beautiful, maybe we could expect the food to be a little improved.
- W8157NSpaulk (8/5): Unique setting in the waterpalace, solid service - Positive special experience - the rooms are in cottages: wonderful design, ours had an outdoor shower, a large kingsize bed, and narrow beautiful front door. Service at the hotel is superfriendly and helpful, though sometimes a bit complex (eg there are vouchers for the restaurant which is right next door.). Not luxurious but everything is provided for.
The restaurant is very well positioned to oversee the waterpalace, the good is fine (not memorable). The guide provided for the tour was excellent, recommendes to take the tour. The waterpalace itself is extra interesting with a good guide, though at peak hours it gets flooded with tourists looking for an insta photo… Staying at the hotel in the palace really does offer the chance to get in early before the crowds.
- Lynn (8/5): Lovely garden palace - It was a great stay but for one thingmentioned later.Pretty gardens&waterfalls.Goodfood peaceful The bed was damp and very musty.whole room had damp moulldy smell no sun never gets
Aired out
- John (10/5): Two nights in paradise. - Uniquely situated in the Tirta Gangga Water Palace, we had the whole place to ourselves when it closed to the public. Breakfasts were great and we had our own swimming pool. Nothing. It was a beautiful place with friendly, helpful staff.
- Miriam (9/5): Superb -
- Kirsten (7/5): Villa raja is the place to be if you want to stay in Tirtagangga overnight - Villa Raja was so nice, staff was very friendly! Nice to have complimentary tea or coffee and sweets in the afternoon. And the surroundings are the best The beach umbrella’s at the pool are very moldy
- Christian (9/5): Highly recommended! - In terms of the actual hotel (and restaurant) you can probably find better value for money, but staff is great and location absolutely unbeatable. Having the royal garden all to yourself after the tourist masses have left is very special.
- Corinne (9/5): Superb - A wonderful location and a real privilege to stay overnight at the place . The room was cool, comfortable and traditional. The staff polite and considerate.
The food in the restaurant was good and drinks large and delicious!
- Shahenaz (10/5): Stay in beautiful gardens at Tirta - The gardens surrounding the hotel are absolutely beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay. The bathroom being open at the back and a little bit dated.
- Viktor (9/5): Wonderful! - Friendly staff and clean rooms. Right on the grounds of the water palace.
- Elena (8/5): For one night it’s ok. - The place is awesome as we can discover during the night without any tourists.
The bed is comfortable. The bathroom is kind of outside. Everything is slightly old in the room, even shampoo and conditioner look old. Quite expensive comparing to hotels in Ubud
- Nandish (7/5): Good -
- Brodala (6/5): Pleasant - No tv in the room, no telefon in the room, poore breakfast ,ambrelas next to the pool never been clean.!!
- Heidi (10/5): A must if you have ever wondered what it would feel like to sleep in the garden of Eden and then wake up to go for a swi - Everything!!!! The location is absolutely awe-inspiring! To be able to have the gardens and the swimming pools to yourself when the garden closes for tourists are extremely special! The breakfast and dinner were both excellent and the staff were lovely and helpful. Nothing
- Jernej (9/5): Superb -
- Purushothama (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (10/5): So pleased we stayed - once in a lifetime experience having these beautiful gardens to ourselves once day trippers left - Stunning location- beautiful rooms - private olympic size swimming pool and lovely helpful staff nothing
- Barb (3/5): not worth the money- stay somewhere else - location to the water palace was great the rooms were so old and smelly
- Himanshu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (9/5): Brilliant "experience" stay not just a hotel - Great breakfast on the restaurant balcony overlooking the palace water gardens. Beautiful friendly helpful staff. Exceptional villa, feel like royalty for a night.
- Explorer695110 (4/5): Worst service - They give fake information to consume in their place. I asked if they accept American Express while the answer was yes ( over 300,000) after we ask for the bill, the guy told us that they didn’t accept American Express even we order food over 300,000 and even we tried to pay with visa and master card their terminal wasn’t working. You cannot make people consume a lot and then lie to them. We had to pay by cash. If we would have had cash, they I don’t know what I would do.
Also the manager ignored us.
Food is not that good.
- jacquotpicard (6/5): Slightly disappointing - The Hotel Tirta Ayu is located in the middle of the Tirta Gangga Royal Water Garden. We already visited this impressive garden three years ago, but we were curious to see what the complex looks like at nightfall, when it is illuminated by countless lamps, as can be seen in numerous photos.
But what a disappointment: zero lighting, as soon as it gets dark, everything is dark black, you can't see anything at all of the complex. Thus, to stay at the Hotel Tirta Ayu in order to experience the water Garden by night is a waste of time. The only advantage: if one gets up early enough, one can take pictures in the morning before the tourist buses arrive.
The Hotel Tirta Ayu is ok, we had a pool villa with a very efficient air conditioning, the bedroom was quite big, but the bathroom was rather tiny.
The food in the attached restaurant was fine, but the drinks list reminded us of a tombola with very few (if any) winning lots.
The first wine we chose was not in stock, nor was the second, nor were the third and fourth. It turned out that of the eight white wines on the menu, only one was available, a local wine, but it did not appeal to us. So we opted for sparkling water. But who would have thought: they didn't have sparkling water either. Finally we drank a beer.
On the second day we wanted to have a whiskey after dinner. Guess how many of the 5 Whiskeys on the drink list they actually had. None!
Then we gave it up and looked forward to the journey to the North, to Hotel The Damai, in our eyes one of the best addresses in Bali.
For people with reduced mobility: there are a number of sometimes quite high steps to enter the Water Garden, the hotel and the restaurant. No handrail, no elevator. The staff is always ready to provide assistance.
- nophie (10/5): Very nice hotel - We stayed at the Pool Villa. It was a nice villa, clean, ethnic Balinese feel, calm and pleasant. Exit the room directly facing the pool. Wifi access smoothly, breakfast is good and tasty. In fact, everything is almost perfect, but there is one thing I don't like most. In the bathroom where our villa is located, there is no water spray in the toilet to urinate or defecate. And that is very uncomfortable. If management can pay attention to this.
- Amanda (6/5): So-so - This is a unique place - right inside the water palace - but it is in need of some improvements. Our room (pool villa) smelled a little moldy and things seemed a bit dated. We paid extra for the "free breakfast" option but had a very aggressive server at the restaurant insist that we had to pay. This dispute was eventually settled by management but it was a strange experience and quite uncomfortable. I do not think i would return or suggest this place to friends and family but if you really want the experience of staying inside the water palace a single night should suffice. The restaurant is good and the water palace really is beautiful as is the rest of Eastern Bali.
- ericmE3529SF (10/5): Great hotel, and a fantastic restaurant with a view - I stayed here with my wife a few months back. it's absolutely epic. located in the hills outside Candidasa, this beautiful small hotel was so peaceful at night. to have dinner overlooking the amazing Tirta Gangga water palace was something i'll never forget!
- jasminnelyanm (10/5): If there is such thing as Heaven on Earth - the most special place I have ever stepped foot on! - This Former Royal Palace in East Bali is what we call the real Bali rich of history, culture, rituals, traditions and prayers. Air of authentic royal magnificence Maze of pools and fountains surrounded by lush gardens and stone carvings and statues. This place is without a doubt heaven and breathtaking. I first visited this stunning place in September 2017 and stayed for a couple of days in the villa. I had such a memorable time here that I came back in December 2017-January 2018.
I highly recommend staying at Tirta Ayu Hotel (consisting of Villa Raja, the Poolhouse and 3 other Villas) so you can experience waking up early in the morning and have breakfast with this exhilarating view and then taking a walk around the Water Palace and feed the KOI fish, it is extremely relaxing and fun, not mentioning rejuvenating. The room is so clean and comfortable designed in such artistic collaborations and the outdoor bathroom adds to the next level of authenticity. There are plenty of activities to do around this place such as hiking to the nearby area, through to the rice fields and mountains area. We never ran out of adventures!
Tirta Ayu Restaurant serves plenty of delicious mouth-watering dishes and beverages including some healthy juices. There are plenty of choices that it is inevitable for me to want to return every day to taste each and every one of them. I usually opt for Mie Goreng or Nasi Goreng for breakfast with a plate of fresh tropical fruits and Balinese coffee for breakfast. I thoroughly enjoy the ribs and the crispy duck for lunch and dinner. This must be followed by the traditional Dadar Gulung or fried banana and/or grilled banana with ice cream, it is a must try.
The staff are very much warm, welcoming, polite, and professional and I rate their service highly. It’s an absolute royal hospitality. On my last night here, while we were watching the sunset overlooking the mountains and the rice fields and the Owner of the hotel/restaurant lit this LOVE sign up by the Holy Water Pool to bid us farewell (the photo can be found below). This was indeed a very special moment.
My visits and stays in Tirta Ayu Hotel and Restaurant have always been unforgettable and I don’t doubt that there will be plenty more visits in the future, not only because of this wonderful place but also because there are so many attractions and historical places to visit around the area. This place is perfect also for writers, musicians and those who wish to hold a conference as having conferences here with the spectacular view as well as the calming sound of the water fountains along with the relaxing sound of the surrounding nature definitely beat the closed confined space of a seminar room. This venue is also perfect for engagement (including proposals) and also wedding celebrations.
Thank you Tirta Gangga and Tirta Ayu for making my stay absolutely magical!
- Cara (8/5): - Nice Hotel to live the experience of visiting the water palace at Tirta Gangga
- Z3464BCjessw (10/5): Hotel with perks! - I booked this hotel after reading reviews that only hotel guests have access to the water palace grounds before the public. It was worth it... My fiancé and I woke up after sunrise and pretty much had the grounds to ourselves to take pictures!
The staff were very helpful and kind. We wanted to see Pura Lempuyang and Ujung Water Palace since the hotel is relatively close, but no tours on Viator were available to take us to both. The hotel arranged their driver to take us there with only 2 hours notice! We also needed a ride to the airport > 2 hours away and they arranged that very promptly as well.
The hotel restaurant was great, had local cuisine and more American-friendly food for my less adventurous partner.
The villa we had was nice. It is a little older, so the bathroom had a little funny smell and it took some time to figure out how to lock our door.
- Dhiren (10/5): Regal experience. - Amazing location. Great staff. Excellent chef. Fresh water swimming pools are a delight ! Will definitely stay here again.
- knitchic (10/5): Lovely food in a superb location - We have eaten here on several occasions and the food is delicious and the view over the garden is spectacular. I would certainly recommend having lunch at this lovely restaurant.
Staff are friendly and very accommodating
We have also viewed the accommodation and it’s of a high spec and would love to spend a night at the hotel.
We will be back for sure.
- pvfamily (10/5): Villa Raja is Magical! - We spent 3 nights in the Villa Raja - apparently the premiere room of the only 5 rooms available at this amazing place. Impressions - on arrival I was frankly overwhelmed - the hotel is located within a very popular tourist attraction - the Water Palace. Literally busloads of people come and tour the extensive gardens and pools. So on arrival in the parking lot, it was a bit confusing on how to get to the hotel part as one needs a ticket to enter - but as soon as you said you had a reservation, you were guided to the hotel reception which is a bit behind the restaurant (which was having a group event that day with large tents and lots of people--not uncommon as we discovered). Check-in was super easy - the staff is wonderful - really wonderful. In the Villa, even the mini-bar drinks are complimentary. We had our own "plunge" pool, an amazingly comfortable and very spacious room and the largest bathroom I have ever experienced with a fantastic shower. I felt like a princess! The service we received was amazing. If we wanted to eat in the restaurant, they reserved the best table for us. This was a table that was on a sort of balcony overlooking the magnificent pools. We had many of our meals there. The restaurant staff was nothing short of amazing as well - the food good - but I will say that when in Bali - eat Balinese food - it is much better than western food. There are public swimming pools at the Water Palace - people from the surrounding area (and tourists) can pay a fee of 10,000 (around 70 cents) to swim there. We were there on a weekend and lots of Balinese children were there. It was fun to see them. The water is extremely cold! We had full use of the pools and so did swim in the mornings before the tourists arrived. Note that there is nothing else in the area to do - BUT it is easy to go to Amed (or anywhere on the coast) for a day of snorkeling or diving and then return to this idyllic place. It is kind of surreal to be in this Water Palace after everyone has left - you are literally alone in this magnificent place. This is one of the best experiences of my life in terms of a place to visit. Would we go again? In a heartbeat! If you want to go somewhere, see something, they arrange a reaonably priced driver for you. It was a wonderful place to be.
- gvodbos (8/5): Hotel in the water palace! So you can visit the park on your own early morning. - We loved the fact that in the morning and evenings the grounds/gardens are only open to the hotel guests - so it becomes quiet and romantic. The restaurant which serves good food, overlooks the gardens.
Obviously hotel guests consider to have dinner in the restaurant, however please have a look at the restaurant next to the hotel, it looks nice as well.
- CTG83 (8/5): Amazing Food! - We stayed here 3rd - 6th July for the start of our honeymoon in Bali.
Upon arrival at 9pm, we were greeted by a security guard in the dark and communication (English) was very difficult). We wanted to eat but the restaurant was shut and no other staff were there (this despite the fact the restaurant is advertised as open until 10pm).
The room was good, but there was a strange noise from the outside bathroom every so often, that we never discovered the source of!
The food at the restaurant was stunning, the best part of our stay and the setting is so calm and relaxing.
We also had a couple's honeymoon spa treatment and it was so relaxing that we both fell asleep!
I would recommend this place, as the surrounding water palace is gorgeous, but 3 nights is more than enough, as there is not much to do at all.
- dixont146 (10/5): Lovely Hotel and Restaurant within a beautiful waterpalace of heritage - This would be my second time staying at Tirta Ayu. Last time, we went with our large family to spend several nights here. I was lucky enough to be able to see whats inside each villas here as we booked the whole villas. It was a great holiday for us, as we could feel how its like to stay within such place with a significant Balinese cultural heritage.
You can see the panoramic view of Tirta Gangga waterpark from the restaurant, which is is simply gorgeous. There is a swimming pool inside the villas compound and an outdoor spa next to it, which is where we spent most of our evenings here. I got the chance to stay in Raja Villa on my second visit. It is the best villa here and my favorite too. The food in the restaurant is nice, and I would recommend to try their fried duck menu, delish.
We had Temple Tours where the local guides would teach you how to prepare the offerings (canang) and their prayer steps. Another day we managed to take a blessing tour in the nearby village (10-15 minutes drive) with the local high priest. There are still seberal tours to offer but we have no chance to take them as we need to proceed with our travel plans. Its a pleasant experience if you have cultural and ethnic interests.
- Ellie054080 (10/5): 5 day stay on East Coast - We had Villa 2 and it was lovely. Near the pool and restaurant. The restaurant overlooks the beautiful Water Palace and we were lucky enough to see a ceremony whilst eating breakfast.
The staff are very obliging and patient and always pleasant and polite.
- LeDo12 (8/5): Excellent location, hotel okay - To experience the waterpalace in the evening as well as in the morning when all the tourists aren't around is a very special experience. This is why a stay in the Tirta Ayu hotel is definitely worth it. However, a stay for one or a maximum of two nights is definitely enough. The rooms are nice, but nothing special. We found the staff to be a little "stiff" and experienced them to be not as attentive and welcoming as we have seen before around Bali.
- Mark (10/5): Unforgettable stay inside the Water Palace - We arrived during the evening when the water palace was past opening hours. We walked through the garden and pools which are beautiful even at night. We were warmly welcomed and the check-in was smooth and easy. There are only 5 rooms so the private pool is never crowded. You can swim at night if the weather is good. The staff service both the hotel guests and the restaurant. They always greet you with a smile and the service is always excellent.
We stayed 4 nights and have almost every meal in the restaurant. We have tried the Western and the local menu which are both very good. I find the price is very reasonable as well. It's an unforgettable and unique experience to have breakfast or dinner here when the water palace is closed. You feel like a royalty to enjoy the meal and have the whole palace to yourself.
The room feels like a small cottage with an open-air bathroom. The staff kept our room clean and tidy several times a day or whenever we left the room. There is no TV in the room but Wifi works great. It's a bit dark to read in the room and I wish they can install more lights to make it brighter.
The hotel provides many tour and excursion options or you can just walk around the rice fields near the hotel. We visited Pura Lempuyang and Ujung Palace with a guide. But it's also ok to just hire a driver.
Overall, we love staying here and even love eating at the restaurant more. I highly recommend this hidden gem when visiting East Bali.
