Guest Reviews
- Adrian (10/5): Business Trip. Good location. - Clean and friendly Nothing
- isabel cristina (9/5): Nice hotel and staff - The food was very good and big portions, the staff was very nice and helpful, the location was ideal for our plans and that was basically why we chose this hotel, so close to the M6 to continue our trip, we don't like chain hotels and we found this pub/hotel with a lot of character. The bedrooms are big and clean but very old, they could do with a little bit of modernization, paint and more comfortable beds and pillows.
- Janet (8/5): - The location was 15 minutes from the venue of a wedding I attended in the Dorothy Clive Garden and 15 mins from the M6. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. It was very comfortable accommodation for my two night stopover and I would recommend it.
- Mark (8/5): Lovely people, good fun, excellent value for money and for us a great location - The new owners are lovely people who made us feel very welcome and have put a lot of effort in to improving the premises and making it fun for the customers of the pub. In the past we have been there on quiz night, this time it was Bingo which was very well attended. Generous prizes for the winners and the added bonus of bites to eat at the end. Nothing
- Adrian (6/5): - Convenient location reasonably priced and friendly staff and great entertainment Was not there long enough to make judgement
- Jean (8/5): Met my expectations - Good. Would have like some yogurt and fruit salad.
- roger (9/5): Good value for the money - The new landlord is transforming the place and has made a brilliant start.
FOOD --- lite bites served in the evening and the breakfast were marvelous
ROOMS --are being refurbished but are clean and comfy The entrance to the hotel car park is not on Wharf Terrace and should be explained on the joining instructions
- Lynda (8/5): Excellent food, clean and comfortable. - The breakfast was a buffet which was fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and newly acquired family business that the locals seem to appreciate. The location was perfect for us as a stop off on the way to Scotland. About 5 mins of the motorway or a nice traditional pub. Nothing.
- Immaculate (9/5): Lovely staff and clean rooms - Staff were really lovely and welcoming. My room was really big and well cleaned when I arrived. Overall, loved my stay and would recommend for a quiet and comfortable night. N/A
- Donald (10/5): -

- Chris (9/5): - Incredibly welcoming staff, and a really good "community" feel to the whole pub. Good food, good beer and a comfy bed. They even made fried bread especially for me in the morning :)
- Mark (9/5): Perfect village hotel experience - Loved, loved, loved our stay. Booked last minute while on the road. It was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, quaint, village hotel, friendly helpful management and staff, very clean comfortable rooms. Fridge in the room was a bonus. Lovely large, clean fluffy towels. English Breakfast was perfect with a number of additional options available - help yourself style. We had dinner in the bar and were made to feel like one of the locals by the the villagers. A really great experience. Thank you. We plan to spread the word. Very minor - can I suggest soap at the bathroom sink.
- Duffy (9/5): Martin and his staff are very customer focused, this shone through with the night's entertainment. - Great food, great staff, had a wonderful evening. Nothing not like.
- JOY (6/5): ok - BAD internet needs rooms updating looking tired
- Lisa (10/5): - Lovely friendly & welcoming team. The Crewe Arms has only recently changed hands & I feel the new proprietor has already improved things in both the bar/restaurant & the hotel experience. Couldn't have been a better host...real attention to detail. Breakfast was delicious. My
room was quiet & the bed was so comfy....I had a great night's sleep.
I shall definitely be returning...Thankyou. Everything was tip top....nothing to dislike.
- Samantha (8/5): Lovely road trip stop over - A great place to break up a long road trip! The managers are lovely, made me feel very welcome. Had a lovely cold pint after my long journey. Room was very clean & comfortable bed. Really delicious coffee in the morning & a lovely hot breakfast too.
Great value for money.

It was terrible
- charlotte (5/5): -
- Katrīna (7/5): Room was good, don’t recommend the breakfast - Good location, comfortable bed, strong shower, didn’t hear anyone around so thick walls. The breakfast was unpleasant. In a way that all the dishes and utensils were sticky, felt like they were dirty. Hot breakfast was served only on one day due to the chef being sick.
- Claire (6/5): - Lovely clean hotel room, very comfortable bed indeed. Unhappy landlords. Dirty cutlery, bowls etc at breakfast. Sadly care was lacking.

- BERNADINE (8/5): Brilliant Wet Weekend - We were made welcome by friendly staff.
The rooms were warm, comfortable and clean.
The meals were good value for money, especially the breakfast.
A lovely place to stay, though far from amenities. The bath panels kept falling off the side of the bath when you closed the door, which made us laugh, but otherwise, it was OK.
- Christine (5/5): -
- Adam (9/5): -
- Colin (9/5): -
- Tracey (10/5): -
- Simon (4/5): - Food was really nice.
Barmaid and Chef (Owner) were really friendly Loud banging and shouting in the corridor where the rooms were. Other guests not respecting others staying there
Bed was hard and uncomfortable
- Wain (8/5): - Pleasant setting, nice quaint pub with rooms
Breakfast served hot Wi fi only available in the bar area, not in the rooms
- MELANIE (8/5): Excellent overnight stay with great hosts and good food. - When we arrived, we checked in at the bar. We were taken to our room which is on the side of the pub which was a pleasant surprise, as it's like an annexe. The family room was spacious and had one double bed and single bed, with lots of tea/coffee. The bathroom was a good size - only comment was the bath panel needs to be flued into place - but good and powerful shower. We had dinner in the pub, and they were trailing their festive menu which was delicious. The pub had a really nice local feel and had darts and pool. We had breakfast in the annexe area. The breakfast was delicious - made to order. Tea/Coffee was unlimited and you could make your own toast, have cereals, yogurts, etc. The bathroom was a good size - only comment was the bath panel needs to be flued into place - but good and powerful shower.
The breakfast room would benefit from a little TLC.
- Alistair (9/5): A wee gem of a hotel with friendly staff and great value for money - The staff were excellent welcoming and friendly, nothing seemed to be a problem .
Food was good and freshly prepared breakfast was of a great standard and served with a smile Although it was not the fault of the hotel we were rudely awoken at 2:30am by guests either below us or next door who decided to shout at each other conduct a phone call via speaker and later bang and thump about for nearly two hours and then later we had to listen to the vomit into the toilet not ideal
- Margo (9/5): A pleasant stay, easy parking and friendly staff. - Overall a comfortable stay.
Enjoyable evening meal. Glass of wine rather expensive, over £9 for glass of rose!
Breakfast excellent and plentiful.
Hotel layout had improved since my last stay. Thank you. An invitation to have my evening meal in the warmer bar area rather than sit alone in eating area at the side.
A wine list showing prices.
Brown rolls/bread available at breakfast time.
- Karen (5/5): -
- Gordon (10/5): Very convenient for an overnight stop - Lovely hotel with a great bar selling very nice hand pulled beer.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Philip (9/5): -
- Jessey (10/5): Fabulous stay , I will return! - Lovely people , great service and amazing food and drinks
- Paul (10/5): - Everything about the hotel and the staff were lovely. Everything was fine great place to stay. Would definitely recommend.
- Griffiths (6/5): Reasonable but very helpful staff - Good location friendly Food had stopped. Strange tea and breakfast a bit
sparse
- Sharon (2/5): Would not recommend - glad to have left! - Nothing Where do you what me to start - did not like anything about it. Bedroom was so basic and was freezing. Took over an hour to heat up. Bed was very hard and springs stuck into us all night. Breakfast was basic and unappealing. Glad we were only staying for one nite. Will NEVER be back. Apart from arriving late in evening we would not have stayed. On hindsight wish we had left as soon as we arrived and found somewhere better.
- Nicola (7/5): Lovely stay - Friendly staff lovely little pub in a quiet location Could do with a refurb but everything worked and it was clean
- Michael (10/5): Lovely staff. Very accommodating and food was nice too!! - Friendly staff. Hotel was clean and tidy. Internet was poor in rooms. Didn’t work. I had to leave early for work so couldn’t enjoy breakfast which only started at 8am.
- sameh (2/5): Disappointing stay despite high expectations - Title: Disappointing stay despite high expectations
I booked this hotel after reading many excellent reviews about its cleanliness, friendly staff, good restaurant, and great breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, my experience was quite the opposite — a real shame, as many smaller hotels offer far better service. After leaving, I learned the hotel is now under new management, and from my own background in the hospitality industry, I can say that customer care and professionalism are clearly lacking.
Check-in took place in the restaurant area, where, despite it being empty, we were not acknowledged right away and had to wait to be served — not the most welcoming start.
I had booked a triple room for three guests via Booking.com and paid the displayed price, but my confirmation showed only two. I immediately called and was assured it wouldn’t be an issue. Upon arrival, however, the room was set up for only two people, and when I asked for the missing items, the manager insisted I had to pay extra. Even after explaining the booking situation, she remained dismissive and told me I could go elsewhere if I wasn’t satisfied. Exhausted after traveling, I reluctantly paid the additional charge.
Because of Halloween, the regular restaurant menu wasn’t available, and only four types of pizza or hot dogs were offered. We ordered two Margherita pizzas, but only one arrived at first with no explanation; the second came much later. We also weren’t given a proper receipt for our order.
The room was very cold at first, but after turning on the heating, it reached a comfortable temperature after about an hour.
The breakfast buffet was very limited — a few cereals, one type of bread (white toast), butter, jam, honey, some fruit, and tea and coffee. Hot items, such as a basic English breakfast, were available only upon request.
Overall, this was not the comfortable or welcoming stay we expected, and sadly, I would not return or recommend this hotel.
- Elena (4/5): -
- Michael (6/5): - Good breakfast with friendly staff I couldn't get the Wi-Fi to work
- David Wakinshaw (10/5): thanks for hosting m,e ill be sure to save this place for future - unfortunately I was early away so couldn't stop for breakfast but if the evening food was anything to go by the breakfast would have been outstanding. great place to stay loadsa of parking etc room access easy and plenty room.
- Stephanie (8/5): Great value for money - Fast check in, big room with usual amenities. Food was nice in the pub
- Steven (8/5): - very friendly staff, helpful looked after us well. rooms are good but a little dated. value for money and did what we needed.
- Melodye (5/5): The hospitality for our dog was the best part - The room was clean, and there was plenty of parking. The atmosphere in the pub improved once there was live music on, so that was nice! The bartender who served us was friendly. They also prepared a welcome pack for our dog, which was a nice touch- blanket, treats, and a bowl. The food was disappointing. My husband had the burger, in which the patty was notably smaller than the bun; my cottage pie was alright, but the chips served with them clearly had freezer burn. The glass I was offered with my bottle of beer was dirty, so I did not use it. The breakfast was disappointing, as there was only one hot option (full English), which my husband and I shared. The temperature of most items was not hot, and the tomato came out of a can.
Ontbijt karig.
- Yeagers (10/5): Super place - Location ideal.
Warm and friendly staff for whom nothing was too much.
Went the extra mile to help me. Nothing!
- Yeagers (9/5): Reminiscing - Warm and friendly service and no request was too much. Nothing
- tracey (9/5): Good clean accommodation good price good food very nice staff definitely stay here again - Everything was good
Food good Outside light as need to leave at 6am and it was dark
- Richard (7/5): Was cheap. Rooms were dated but clean - We stayed here to break the journey from South coast to Manchester. Major factor on choosing here was it was cheap. The rooms are very dated, but clean. The food at breakfast wasn’t great
- lisa (8/5): other than the dog situation at breakfast the hotel and the owners were excellent and very welcoming - The breakfast was very nice and good selection to choose from. Overall very happy my only criticism would be that I found it strange how dogs are allowed in the restaurant area for evening meals but are not allowed in the breakfast room which can cause a few problems with guests that have dogs that won’t leave them in the room on there own so having breakfast could become an problem
- Lewis (10/5): excellent - A great stay for the night while visiting friends who live in the area. I would highly recommend and would stay here again next time I am in the area. Nothing
- Alison (8/5): Classic old English pub - fabulous! - Friendly Weak WiFi in room
- kevin (10/5): -
- Chih-Chun (9/5): -
- John (9/5): -
- Steven (8/5): - Cosy spot. We had a nice stay. Friendly staff. No Fry for breakfast was disappointing. Cereal, Toast and instant coffee??
