Guest Reviews
- Etiennne (8/5): Very good -
- Jackie (10/5): - Lovely hotel and the staff namely Stephen was very jovial, plenty of information. We had everything we needed. Lovely cooked breakfast. Couldn't fault anything.
Sadly it will be closing in the next month
- Bryngarw (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly place This is an exceptional place to stay no negatives
- Simon (8/5): - The room was perfect for my purposes, somewhere to crash after a party. The landlord was very helpful indeed, thank you to him.
- Saz60 (8/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Excellent breakfast, evening meal also very good, staff very friendly. Bed very comfortable, nice clean room. Beautiful garden. Shame it's closing soon
- Barbara (10/5): Lovely relaxing overnight stay. All staff were friendly and helpful. - Beautiful setting, lovely garden and very peaceful.
- Robin (7/5): Fitted the bill in terms of location and friendliness but fell short on facilities - Location and breakfasts good and the owners very friendly and helpful Unfortunately the owners are running the business down so we decided to source evening meals elsewhere. As a result we obviously did'nt experience the hotel at its best
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb -
- Jeanette (8/5): Very enjoyable short break - would definitely return - Very friendly helpful staff
Good breakfast
Very clean
Fridge in room plus offer of fresh milk was a nice touch
Comfy beds A little tired in places
Would prefer duvet rather than blanket
- Mary (10/5): - The Golden Ball is everything you’d expect from a country pub. Comfortable, quiet, welcoming and good breakfast.
- Etiennne (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (7/5): Looks great from the outside, Inside needs some attention - Dinner & breakfast food was well cooked as requested. We were seated in the bar area, which was devoid of other customers and felt quite chilly. An electric coal fire was present, but it was unclear if it was operational. The room, an extension to the traditional thatched pub advertised, lacked ambiance and did not feature the low ceilings that would have complemented the original structure. The decor and carpets appeared worn and seemed overdue for an update.
- Stephen (10/5): - No complaints whatsoever food good friendly staff clean room
- Stephen (10/5): - No complaints whatsoever
- Michael (8/5): Would stay there again if in the area. - Great breakfasts and evening meals. Helpful and friendly owners Sarah and Stephen. The two nights we were there were very cold. The heating in the accommodation struggled to heat the room.
- Susan (10/5): Lovely just the time to unwind and be pamper. - breakfast was more then you could eat. and location was quiet but a bit windy wrong time of year.
- Khrys (10/5): - nice quiet area with everything needed, which included a fridge. Nice touch with the snack in the room, which was not expected. Friendly owners. Will come again if in the area.
- Jeff (10/5): A timely visit. - The friendlyness, the banter, the food, the wine, the room, the overall ambience. For me, in the moment, it was perfection. Thank you. Jeff xx Nuffink.
- Linda (9/5): A most welcome and friendly place clean and everything you needed - The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming The whole experience was great
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Phil (4/5): Disappointing, place needs a facelift, menu was average and it was massively overpriced for the quality. - Not much Dated room, pretty tatty, room smelled as if it had been smoked in. Characterless.
- Gareth (9/5): Superb -
- Geoffrey (9/5): We had a great stay. The hosts were so friendly, helpful and co-operative! - The breakfast menu was straightforward, comprehensive and the food (full English etc) was superb. The staff were extremely helpful and were keen to ensure you got what you wanted. The evening menu was, again straightforward with food of great quality and with good portions.. (restaurant and bar not open Mon/Tues but local options in nearby Elmsworth were both worth a visit). Good location....easy to get to from the Cambridge Services turn off with good access to Cambridge and the surrounding area. The lighting and heating were on a timed feed and this meant that the corridors were dark at this (late Autumn) time of year. Perhaps lights controlled by sensors could be an option? Not a deal changer anyway.
- Jennifer (10/5): Very comfortable and peaceful - We liked the location, the comfortable atmosphere, the peace and quiet, comfy beds, food and the friendliness of the owners. There was nothing I disliked.
- Mark (9/5): Great location, lovely hosts, excellent food and will be back again soon. - The hosts are really very welcoming, great food and location was ideal for our business trip
- Jacqueline (8/5): Great short break, in a wonderful location and pub. - Lovely spacious room. Staff wonderful. Good value. Food great. First night room a bit cold, an additional heater was provided on request.
- Jan (10/5): Great place to stop over - strongly recommend - Welcoming and friendly staff who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They really did go the extra mile. Food and drink were good. Was close to Cambridge but in a quiet and relaxing location with easy walks. We left feeling refreshed. Nothing
- Simone (10/5): Golden Ball - Wonderful room with everything you need. Atmosphere and food and service at the pub was fantastic. Made a very special night perfect. Breakfast was also lovely next morning . Thank you 😊
- Peter (2/5): Disappointing and dirty accomodation. - Peaceful location Barth room was in need of repairs and a clean. Panelling coming off the wall, dirty sealant and dubious brown stains on the bath panel and floor.
- Fentiman (8/5): Very good -
- Terence (7/5): Good -
- Zoe (10/5): Absolutely perfect, will return. - Food was absolutely beautiful, we couldn't have asked for more! The host Sarah ?(I think) was such a happy jolly person, nothing was too much trouble. Very attentive. Fantastic, we will definitely return! Erm......NOTHING, it was perfect! The only concern but not a criticism was portion size on evening meal was too large for our appetite, that being said, when requested a half portion that was no trouble whatsoever!
- Kevin (10/5): Excellent value and very friendly owner / host -
- Roger (8/5): - Our 4th stay here and will come again. Evie in the bar/restaurant was excellent, and despite being busy, fixed us up with a heater as the central heating in the bedroom was not working well. Had a lovely evening meal and a very good breakfast the next morning
- David (10/5): A nice hotel in a quiet location with great food and beer. - Very comfortable, great food, beer and breakfast. The hosts Stephen and Sarah were very welcoming. Will be back. Nothing!
- David (7/5): Excellent location and food but bedrooms need some improvement - Excellent freshly cooked hot breakfast The heating system was not operating properly and the bedrooms would benefit from some refurbishment

- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (6/5): Short but fairly sweet! - Breakfast was average. Staff friendly. Thought the rooms were too expensive. I booked a double room and then last minute added a single room. It would have been fair to have received a discounted price for 2nd room.
- Penelope (9/5): A good place to stay - very handy for Cambridge - This was a pleasant place to stay - an old, thatched pub, with plenty of space and very pleasant staff. No particular suggestion
- Vassily (7/5): Good -
- Anthony (10/5): First class in all respects - Everything was first class Not applicable
- Anne (10/5): The staff were exceptional and welcoming. - Convenient parking. Nowhere to sit and read during the day .
- Peter (9/5): Splendid evening meal and all we expected for a very comfortable bed and breakfast. - Very good. Plentiful, well presented with several options. Delightful setting and flexible timing. Nothing.
- Angela (1/5): Wouldn’t go again and wouldn’t recommend - Nothing really ..just the pub itself which was a pretty pub The rooms which were to the side of the pub was like a grotty motel ..drab needing brightening up .when we got there at 4pm bar was closed so couldn’t get drink after travelling 2 hours ..also stated pub was open 11am til 11 pm!!! Everything we chose on the menu was unavailable …don’t be going back

The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. The landlady was very welcoming and really looked after them. Their evening meal was very good too. Small issue with sink plug not fitting well.

- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - On arrival the Golden Ball was a very charming pub, very well presented with lovely hanging baskets of flowers out front . The breakfasts were very well catered for, and the breakfast room was very well presented, it had a real charm to it with a lovely view to the well kept garden. We enjoyed a nice conversation with our hosts Stephen and Sarah . The room in the barn was very comfortable with a king sized bed, and everything was nice and clean .
- Andrew (8/5): Good, generally met our needs - Friendly and obliging
Comfortable and clean
Very good breakfast Closed until late afternoon although you can access your room
When we returned to the hotel late afternoon after a full day out we would have liked to have been able to get a drink
Not really a hotel, more a B&B, although breakfast was not included in the price
- Sue (7/5): Good for visiting Cambridge - Nice quiet village and a good location for visiting Cambridge. The food was lovely we ate there on all 3 nights. Beer garden too so sat and had a drink in the sun.
Friendly staff who made you feel welcome. The accommodation was very dated and could do with a revamp.
- David (8/5): - Excellent friendly and efficient staff.Good food well cooked and nicely presented.
Would definitely recommend.
- Marsh (10/5): Exceptional - Could not have been better. Everything was just fine.
- Craig (7/5): Quiet stay away from town, but chilly rooms. - Large room with good outlook on to farm. Accommodation building next to pub. Room was cold as heating didn't work. I was charged £10 more when I got there for breakfast, which was refunded next day when I did not have breakfast. Rooms a little tired. Small TV.
- Sally (10/5): Recent stay - A warm and friendly welcome. A straightforward local pub great service, very neat, clean and tidy room. A hearty breakfast. Many thanks.
- Gary (10/5): Lovley setting just outside cambridge - The staff here are incredibly friendly and always eager to help out. Situated just outside Cambridge, the location is charming, especially with the scenic footpath down the lane that shouldn't be missed. Breakfast is fantastic, and the convenience of the park and ride, just a 10-minute drive away, makes exploring Cambridge a breeze. With its delightful setting and delicious food, and a good selection of beers this hotel is brillant and worth a stay
