Friendly staff. Misleading information provided by Bothe booking.com and The Avenue. Both stated room rate included breakfast, but the invoice was for room only. Only booked the accommodation due to breakfast being provided.

It was that cold I had to sleep with my clothes on and even then I only managed a couple of hours sleep. The breakfast was terrible too. Real low quality ingredients were used and dripping in oil.

Bathroom very dated, shower tiny and shower head falling to pieces. Taps on the sink needed repairing. Had to overtighten to stop them dripping then they would stick and shoot water all over you when they did open.

Dog friendly was a welcome bonus. Breakfast was fantasctic, hot and well presented. Heating was not working, so room was a little cold for the time of year. Did not mention it to the staff as they were very busy with parties.

- Gordon (9/5): A great place to stay,convenient and good value. They’d gone to extra effort to make it nice. - The hotel is welcoming and the room was great. It had a small area with chairs to watch to and a really comfortable bed. The headroom is slightly restricted as it’s an attic room but that didn’t affect our enjoyment. The staff were all really friendly and breakfast was good value for money. The food in the bar is standard pub grub and was ok on the two for thirteen pounds deal. But we enjoyed our evening and the friendly vibe.

The room I feel should have been serviced at least once? but never got replenished unfortunately!! apart from that is was great, location, staff etc. Just need somebody to freshen room a couple of times whilst I was at work over the 4 nights I stayed that’s all.

- Sarah (10/5): Lovely room, very comfortable, highly recommend. - A very warm welcome from a lovely young lady behind the bar, who showed me to my room . Very clean room, great size, amazing refreshments including luxury tea and coffee bags and biscuits. The bathroom had a full selection of hand wash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body cream, very nice! Dinner in the restaurant was great value and quality Overall a very enjoyable stay. Highly recommend. My only issue, and it's not a complaint at all, was the extractor fan in the bathroom was very dusty.

- Andrew (9/5): Very peaceful stay. - A friendly warm local public house with a rural feel and well kept rooms. There is a bus into Durham centre from outside the door of this venue. Also not to far to walk if miss the last bus back. Power was off one night, but they did sort that in the morning.

Will definitely recommend this place to my friends :) Small blip, but unfortunately, shower doors were slightly broken so meant we had to be careful showering. However, I'm sure it's something that can be fixed.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. I LOVED my full English breakfast. You cannot fault this place for the price.

- Kerry (10/5): Fantastic service, amazing food and lovely comfortable rooms - We had an excellent lunch when we arrived then came back to check-in later on. The rooms were great and really comfortable. It was a perfect location just a few minutes drive from the city of Durham. The full English breakfast was delicous and the staff were fantastic, especially Clare, the landlady, who couldn't have been more welcoming. The only downside was not being able to dine in on the sunday evening but I understand that as it was Sunday. It wouldn't put me off staying again.

Nice atmosphere in the pub area the night before Room was a bit dusty behind the beds, where the plug sockets were. Shower and bathroom was okay but a bit of a tight squeeze. Room was okay but quite basic level.

We stayed for 5 nights but did not have our bed linen changed or fresh towels, although we did ask for fresh towels. The bins in the room were not emptied during the 5 days. We also had to ask for tea, sugar and biscuits. They should have been replenished daily. The food is typical “pub grub”. Nothing special but tasty.

- Elaine (7/5): Quite pricey for what it was but a convenient location. - The bedroom was spacious although could have done with a refresh. Good tea and coffee available with a kettle. A good variety of toiletries in the shower room. The location was convenient for visiting both Bishop Auckland and Durham, we took the park and ride a short distance away for Durham. We ate in the bar and it was quite good though slow to arrive. We didn’t particularly enjoy the breakfast as it didn’t match the ingredients on the menu and there were no extras e.g. yoghurt, fruit or toast.

Bed not so comfy and you had to be very careful not to bang your head on the beams when moving around the room. Room was up 4 sets of stairs. Low beams look fab but not so easy to avoid in the night. Bed not very comfy (for us - not firm enough).

I expected a cosy local pub but it felt a bit in need of some tlc. We had a meal that was a bit disappointing as portions were small . Breakfast was a bit chaotic . We had ordered the night before as requested but they had to go out to get more supplies as they’d run out of bacon and sausages. Management had changed so hopefully these were teething troubles.

Very clean . Loved being able up make a cuppa in our room and biscuits . Wonderful view over a paddock . Had two outside areas to sit in the sun . Enjoyed an evening meal in the dining room . Food was really good and plenty to choose from . The next morning we had a huge breakfast provided as part of the stay . Including a machine coffee or a pot of tea and a glass of juice . Clare was a great host !

- christine (10/5): Excellent and thank you - Claire and Lisa were very down to earth, at the same te professional, with another lady behind the bar but I didn't get her name. Nothing was any trouble, all you need do, was ask. They all provided a warm welcome and the atmosphere in the establishment is nice and cosy with affordable prices for wonderful food. Breakfast was included with the price which was cooked to perfection. To have toast alongside breakfast would be the icing on the cake.

There was a party going on downstairs, there was loud music till 11.30pm and conversation till 1am. Our fault for not realising we were booking a pub, thought it had shared parking only.

- Kara (9/5): I’ll be back if I need to be in that area again - I just turned up and wasn’t expecting too much but I was given the attic flat with superb views and an amazing amount of space and huge bathroom So many windows WiFi TV and breakfast included Parking as well Easy access to the main roads Had I just been on holiday I’d have loved it I asked for extra Tea bags and was given about 20 of them Staff so pleasant and nice Late check out no extra cost got loads of work done and drank some of that tea! There wasn’t much not to like Well ok Kitchen was closed the next day Not surprised since they’d worked so hard the previous day and didn’t have that many bookings

The bus stop into Durham is right by the pub which is a plus but there are hardly any buses on Sundays A lot of stairs if you’re on the top floor. Might be an issue if mobility problems.
