Guest Reviews
- Kate (10/5): A hidden gem - We loved everything: from the toiletry products to the beautifully maintained paths and trails thoughout the huge property. I can't think of anything
- Vanessa (10/5): This place is magical and the people are special. - This place is beautiful and special. Excellent staff, beautiful location, perfect service, wonderful amenities. Everything was perfect - a little expensive, though.
- Kenneth (9/5): Unique resort in an excellent environment. - The resort was wonderful. The facilities, pools, and dining were excellent. The bungalows were pretty far from the main facilities, but go-cart transportation was provided to and from the lodging and dining / pools, etc. The bungalows were comfortable and cute but had a somewhat 'industrial' motif/atmosphere. Nothing that was in their control.
- Coralynn (10/5): So relaxing and peaceful. Truly one of the most special properties in the world - Location is so special and truly a beautiful pocket of the world and unlike anywhere I have ever been. The staff was amazing and the monkeys were so cute . Loved the adventure activities as well. Nothing! Maybe if there was one more restaurant a a different menu would be my only way to improve the place.
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect trip - Everything! Staff were all absolutely excellent. Food was exceptional. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Nothing- couldn’t fault a thing!
- Jazmin (10/5): -
- Charles (10/5): We will be back. Such an amazing property and people. - The thermal river is incredible. This is one of the most unique locations in the world. Crystal clear water that's as warm as a hot tub. Hiking trails along the river are beautiful. The staff was amazing! Food was delicious.
I don't typically comment on staff at hotels, however the staff at this hotel was one of the best I've experienced and we travel at 5-star resorts around the world. Carlos met us via a golf cart as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. We jumped in with him and left everything in our car. During the check-in process, I was reading through some of the paperwork and casually commented that I didn't have my reading glasses. Carlos arranged a table for us at dinner, since it was late when we checked in and 15 minutes after seating us, he stopped by our table with my reading glasses which he had grabbed from our car. I was so impressed that he took the initiative to find and bring my glasses to dinner! He escorted us to our room after dinner and everything had been neatly arranged for us in the room. Groceries unpacked. Shoes lined up. Suitcases put away.
The food at Rio Perdido was the best we had in Costa Rica. Thanks for a great trip!
- Francisco Jose (10/5): - Me gustó mucho todo
- Maria (10/5): - Beautiful setting in the middle of nature with great variety if wildlife and activities on premises. Not quiet, as at night all animals come alive, but for us the jungle noises and rain were super relaxing. Excellent service and food. Ownership truly cares about the environment and growing this ecosystem. Fantastic! One of a kind!

- Sherma (10/5): - Would recommend
- Ivan (10/5): -
- Ljubisa (10/5): - The place was clean and felt very safe. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

- Claudio (10/5): - Rio Perdido is a boutique gem in northeastern Guanacaste, about an hour from Liberia airport. Beyond its thermal river and preserved jungle, what truly sets it apart is its people.
From the start, every staff member made our stay memorable. Gabriella, the general manager, orchestrates the property with remarkable care. Ykson welcomed us at check-in, Monica flawlessly arranged our activities, and Esteban and Wilfredo made dining a joy.
We were fortunate to be there on August 15th, 2025, when the resort marked National Relaxation Day with its first-ever yoga class at the heliport—a magical spot overlooking the forest. The event also celebrated Rio Perdido’s inclusion in the Small Luxury Hotels of the World’s new Wellbeing Collection. Marisol, the yoga teacher, created an unforgettable experience, blending yoga with her ukulele and ethereal singing.
But the highlight came from someone special: Johan Jimenez, a 19-year-old staff member who embodies the heart of Rio Perdido. We saw him shine as a waiter, a mixologist at the pool bar, quietly keeping the pool immaculate, and ultimately bringing soul to our private engagement dinner. Bright, kind, and endlessly versatile, Johan is a treasure.
Kudos to Rio Perdido for giving us not just a stay, but a memory we’ll carry forever.
- Nicole (10/5): - This hotel was definitely 5 star. Dinner was good. Breakfast was ok. Bed was a little hard but room was beautiful with floor to ceiling windows with a view of the jungle. We only stayed one night didn’t see any monkeys but heard howler monkeys yelling. Hot springs were amazing! Except it could use some lighting down there for night time they are open until 8 but it gets dark at 6. Staff was top notch!!!
- Courtney (10/5): - Our cabin/room was so cool. Plenty big enough for 4 people. All the food and drinks were amazing! The property is huge and beautiful. We enjoyed hiking all around it. The thermal river is incredible with warm spots and Hot spots. The water was so beautiful. The zip lines and river tubing were so fun! The people that work there are so friendly and kind. I highly recommend!
- Trisha (10/5): Best Hotel I've ever stayed at - Everything was simply amazing! Staff were lovely; the food and service were impeccable. Couldn't recommend this hotel more! We will definitely be back!
- Gabriel (9/5): A secret place in Costa Rica you should not miss - Amazing and unique place. A secret, non-touristic resort with amazing location, amenities and staff. Food is a little bit overpriced.
- Alexandre (10/5): -
- Daiana (10/5): -
- Lorena (10/5): - Mary Queen ground peaceful stop very friendly
- Helena (10/5): - Very unique stay, fantastic staff, lovely views & thermal river. Quite expensive but we enjoyed our 2 night stay — the team was phenomenal.
- ALLYSON (10/5): Definitely stay here! - Incredible hotel! The staff was so friendly and helpful and the location is truly something special. Highly recommend visiting Rio Perdido!
- Nicholas (10/5): This property is a GEM!!! - I feel like I found such a special place on Earth at this place! We loved the ease of having all the activities on site. The tubing is a must do!
- Diana (10/5): -
- Jennifer (10/5): amazing 10/10! - Such an amazing hotel and absolutely loved the thermal river! Will def go back 🇨🇷❤️
- Frank (10/5): - Everything we experienced at Rio Perdido was excellent. The accommodations, staff, meals, activities and service could not have been better. Will plan another trip there in the future.
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Celeste (10/5): - This property is special. It is small and intimate with so many fun activities to do.
- Erika (10/5): - Best stay ever. Peace and tranquility are the best way to describe it. The staff is attentive, respectful. Pura Vida
- Travis (8/5): Rio Perdido: Solo Trip Approved! - Rio Perdido was a great choice for my first time solo trip! The highlights were: staff were attentive and well-trained, they present a plethora of activities to participate in, and the meals were, fresh, nutritious & tasty. As a first time solo traveler, I had privacy and appropriate camaraderie from the RP Team. Daniela was a complete jewel as she was very attentive and knowledgeable of the campus and surrounding area. Johan was an amazing server with a cheerful demeanor who made dinner time enjoyable. Oscar was skilled and polite as he gave perfect instructions and carefully guided us through a memorable canyoning adventure- the ziplining is an unforgettable time and very well planned. The bungalows are full of character; I had the pleasure of experiencing two- east and center. The east bungalow is the smaller space, but the hammocks were a joy to have readily available on the patio area. The center bungalows are the upgrade for sure regarding space & amenities. I absolutely adored the private outdoor shower space- it felt like bathing under an open heaven in the jungle- I must have bathed three times a day just to enjoy the splendor of it all. The bungalows felt very private, which was a plus as well. The pool area and swim up bar were fantastic, & the menu was wonderful. My massage was PERFECT! The entire experience was amazing to be in the heart of the jungle while still experiencing luxury. It was like capturing a little glimpse of heaven. A must return for sure!
- Eda (8/5): Magical setting with room for improvement - Rio Perdido’s location is absolutely breathtaking— nestled in nature with stunning thermal rivers I simply couldn’t get enough of. The staff were warm, helpful, and truly went out of their way to make guests feel welcome. I stayed in one of the central bungalows, and while the setting was tranquil, the room itself didn’t quite meet expectations for the price point. It was quite dark due to poor lighting, and several basic amenities that you would expect in every hotel, such as slippers, cotton pads, etc. were missing. The minibar wasn’t even plugged in, which was disappointing given how useful a stocked fridge could be in such a remote location. I also found the presence of TVs in the restaurant and lounge areas a bit out of place—they somewhat disrupted the natural, serene atmosphere. Still, despite these small let-downs, the overall experience was so unique and rejuvenating that I’m already looking forward to returning.
- Eleanor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Benedicte (10/5): Magical place! - Magical property in between a warm water river and the dry forest, everything was beautiful, the food was excellent and the service too (thank you Alfredo). We loved our stay! Nothing
- Heidi (10/5): - Amazing!! Every detail is beautiful at this incredibly designed property. Food was delicious!!
- Mayze (10/5): - Great activity options and amazing thermal river
- heather (10/5): - One of the most extraordinary hotels and properties I have ever visited. All activities for the 20 some cabins are available immediately, and every care and consideration is taken care of by the most amazing, kind, and attentive staff.
- Julie E (10/5): - If you are looking for peace, for beauty, for adventure, for an extraordinary kind and knowledgable staff you will find all of that and more at Rio Perdido. This place offers so much to people of all ability levels. Every staff member we met from managers to adventure guides to gardening staff, waiters, and housekeeping all seemed to do their jobs with a happy heart and never failed to greet us even just in passing warmly. We hope to one day return to this little slice of heaven.
- Willing R (10/5): - Loved everything about Rio Perdido!
- Jody (10/5): Jungle Oasis - Truly one of a kind! We stayed in an east bungalow surrounded by forest, monkeys, birds and the sound of the waterfall. Each bungalow is private and well appointed. From the staff to the food to the pools and activities, it is a 5 star experience all around. Just over an hour from LIR airport, this should be on your list of places not to miss while in CR.
- Adam (10/5): - If I could give it 10 stars, I would! I cannot say enough. Simply amazing.
- Michael (10/5): - The staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They were very friendly and attentive. The ziplinning experience is a must! The thermal river and pools were even better than expected. The mix of luxury, relaxation, and activities were exactly what we wanted in a trip to Central America. From hiking to the spa experience, can't express how perfect this was.
- Cristina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): - Top notch Luxury Resort! Incredible stay at Rio Perdido!
It is truly a great place to be with nature, relax, enjoy great food, and a staff that are just as happy to be there as you are.
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional - This place was outstanding ! It exceeded my expectations. The staff, the nature, the food and the drinks were amazing! Highly recommend staying here. Can’t say anything bad about our stay.
- Teresa (10/5): A gem of a property that has so many things to do and so peaceful and relaxing - Amazing peaceful property. All the buildings, pools etc were just snuggled in with nature. Bungalows were private and cart rides always available. Staff were so friendly and welcoming and greeted us by names each day. The thermal pools were peaceful as were the pools. Food was delicious Nothing. They have captured the true spirit of Costa Rica
- Peter (9/5): Super 👍👍 - Out of this world Place 😁😁👍👍👍 No Choice of Restaurant ( Prices at the Restaurant )
Spa Gracias Treatments dated
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The employees at this hotel are proud to be there. Very attentive group with a high sense of urgency. The resort was beautiful and clean. We will definitely be back!
- Cynthia (10/5): - Amazing service
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Nadja (10/5): Exceptional -

- Melis (10/5): Exceptional - It is amazing needs to give at least 2days
- Dinesh (10/5): - Excellent property!!! Enjoyed the stay!!!
- Nicolette (10/5): Overall incredible place to stay and can’t wait to come back! - Amazing property and private bungalows. Staff was exceptional and food incredible! Many thermal hot springs to swim in and we saw monkeys! Bugs in our room.
- Pierre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Senthil (10/5): - This is an amazing place to visit if you want peace and quiet . Perfect place to immerse yourself in the nature. Getting there is a long trip but well worth it.
- Tugce (3/5): Poor -
- Kana (9/5): Superb - We loved the whole property especially the restaurant overlooking the forests. The complimentary activities i.e. yoga session and guided hiking are also amazing! We didn't need to go out of the property at all for our 2 nights stay as we had everything we need - e.g. hiking trails, thermal river and pool to swim and good bars and restaurant. My favorite part was that we were able to spot monkeys several times at the property. The outdoor shower at the center bangalow is probably not for everyone as you would need to handle some mosquitos and lots of fallen leaves (we stayed in late November), but it made me feel closer to the surrounding forests, and I ended up loving it!
- Justin (8/5): - Property is very nice. Unfortunately there was a lot of rain so the hot springs were flooded and closed. The pools at the hotel were mildly warm, but not what you expect from a 5-star hot spring resort.
- CARA (8/5): - Had a great visit would definitely stay again
- Danielle Lori (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at Rio Perdido. The grounds are beautiful. We saw monkeys, an armadillo, and lots of beautiful birds. The dining was delicious and the staff were all so friendly and accommodating. The road getting there is a little daunting with all of the potholes, but that just made it even more of an adventure :)
- Icelyn (10/5): - Everything about rio perdido was great. From the food to the staff to the gorgeous thermal pools.
- Melanie (10/5): - Increíblemente bello, dentro del bosque.
- Raphael T (10/5): - Best customer service
- Kavita (10/5): - We had the most wonderful stay here!! The staff is phenomenal! The place is beautiful, well kept and clean!
- Ubah (10/5): - The staff are amazing. Thank you to everyone that made this experience unforgettable.
- seth (10/5): - The service was especially commendable. Being so close to access to the thermal river was a real treat.
- Joyce (10/5): - Beautiful and peaceful environment. Loved it!
- Gregory (10/5): - The retreat is pristine. The thermal river is majestic. The facilities are exceptional. Highly recommend.
However. Be advised that the last several miles of the road to the property is very poorly maintained. Although I will still give a 5 star rating, the mattresses are extremely firm, and on day 3 our room had a septic smell that never really went away. I also would not recommend the tubing excursion. It is, for lack of better words, lame... and expensive.
- Paul (10/5): - We both had a fantastic time. Really enjoyed the hospitality. And the property is absolutely amazing.
- Frederik (8/5): Stunning hotel with the best thermal river in Costa Rica - The thermal river and pools were sensational. Unlike many other thermal pools this one feels really authentic Our room had a noisy fridge which sounds a small problem but meant we didn’t sleep as well
- Maria (9/5): Hacienda Guachipelin is a family's dream , an premium family adventure camp with simple luxuries, authentic local cu - We liked the clean and comfy room, the big bathroom , the food, the firepit tables at the restaurant, and most especially the vicinity to all the free adventure walks and waterfalls. Som e you can walk to and some you can drive but they were all fun! I didnt like that there is no free shuttle to the other natural attractions that you have to drive to.
- Von Joseph (10/5): - After 10 years of traveling, This is one of my favorite hotels in the world. So much so that I went back for another visit and would definitely love to visit again.
The road to the property needs some maintenance though, otherwise the property itself is still in great condition.
I just love the architecture of this property that immerses itself in nature.
- George (10/5): - Heaven in earth.
- Bridget Elizabeth (10/5): - what a stunning Property. The food was outstanding , the spa treatment was the best the zip line was safe and fun and the staff each and everyone of them was so friendly always smiling remembered who I was and we felt very special. To top it off dining with monkeys around us is the best way to dine :)
Thank Rio l Perdido
- Christina (10/5): - Wow! Just wow! We will definitely be back! This place is inspiring. What a Gem! We had the pleasure of meeting Gabriel the founder and just in the brief encounter I understood why this place is so magical…. It starts with a vision and it becomes a mission! Staff were amazing and it was nice to see a team that worked together and did so happily. No one looked tired or overworked it felt like they felt were proud to work there, they were proud about working for a company that cares about their flora and fauna.
We were fortunate to see the beginning of their garden project and are looking forward to returning to see it finalized.
Our trip to Costa Rica is not over … and I am happy to report I feel re energized both physically and spiritually! Do not miss the opportunity to visit Rio Perdido Hotel!
- Nigel (10/5): A special experience with incredible staff! - Some of the friendliest staff we have found in any hotel anywhere. Great place to get close to nature in comfortable, well-equipped bungalows that offer a panoramic view of the forest outside and a chance to see lots of wildlife. The thermal river was a special experience, and the volcanic mud really did seem to make our skin younger :) The food was excellent, but the menu was the same every day except for one of two specials. The lighting in our (Central) bungalow was very dim, limiting the nighttime options for reading, or even using the bathroom mirror!
- Renee (10/5): Amazing place! - We have had an amazing time during our stay. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The zip lining was an incredible experience, a must do!
- Carlos (10/5): - Our stay at Rio Perdido in Costa Rica was absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warmth and hospitality. We chose this destination to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the United States, and it exceeded all our expectations.
The resort offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal choice for anyone seeking peace and tranquility. The thermal pools were a highlight, providing a unique and rejuvenating experience. Additionally, immersing ourselves in the rich Costa Rican culture added an extra layer of enjoyment to our stay.
We indulged in relaxing massages at the spa and savored refreshing drinks at the bar, where Alex and the staff made us feel right at home. Special mention goes to MOD Monica, whose attentiveness and helpfulness enhanced our experience.
Our transportation to the airport was made memorable by Esteban, whose positive energy was contagious. It's evident that owner Gabriel takes great pride in the property, fostering a sense of family among the staff.
Rio Perdido's commitment to eco-friendliness is commendable, and the beauty of the surroundings is truly awe-inspiring. We left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, already planning our return to this paradise. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
- Jill (9/5): Superb -
- Ming (9/5): Overall a great experience, great property, friendly staff. - The remoteness and peacefulness mixed in with some adventure. Even though it is away from everything there was always something to do. Sometimes dinner was a hit or miss. I found the dinner choices particularly the meats to be to be underwhelming due to the lack of seasoning. I tried both the chicken and the beef dishes, and although they were cooked to the correct doneness, they lacked the flavors I was anticipating. Adding a variety of herbs or a seasoning blend could greatly enhance the taste and overall dining experience.
The staff was attentive and the presentation of the dishes was visually appealing, which I appreciated. I believe with some adjustments to the seasoning, the dining experience could match the high standards of the hotel’s other services.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maxime (10/5): Amazing stay surrounded by the beautiful nature and wildlife of Costa Rica, a hidden paradise in the middle of the trees - - the property itself is amazing, so vast and gorgeous. The location is remote from everything and then you arrive in this paradise, breathtaking !
- the room, isolated from each other, like little villas and so comfortable. Very beautiful decoration
- the restaurant: incredible view, very good food for reasonable prices, good cocktails and wine list
- the pools & thermal waters: so many options to relax and enjoy your day, with a bar super close that serves drinks and snack all day. So nice
- yoga class in the morning
- massage option
- all the animals in the property !! You get to see monkeys, agoutis, armadillos walking peacefully or hangin in the trees, this is amazing
- the space : the place is so huge you have the feeling to be alone and not so much with other guests. Everyone has privacy and that is nice - nothing, the hotel is amazing
- Alexandra (7/5): Good -
- Tina (10/5): - Magical
- Shelly (10/5): - Amazing views and ability to observe nature!

Staff were incredibly helpful in the months and weeks leading up to our stay, proving lots of information, answering our questions, and helping us plan several things before we got there. When we arrived, were given the royal treatment, from a golf cart to bring us and our baggage to the reception and our bungalow, and cool drinks at check-in. The facilities were gorgeous, beautifully designed, with lots of care to ensure sustainability. The property and thermal river were wonderful for nature lovers, and we loved exploring the various areas for swimming. We also took a hike and the complimentary yoga class. The food at the bar and restaurant was delicious, and the view above the canopy was stunning. We had one of the East Bungalows right on the edge of the canyon and just loved hanging on the swing hammocks on our balcony early in the morning to hear the birds, the flowing river – and very often watched a family of howler or white faced monkeys swing by. Rio Perdido is moving away from accommodating families with children under 12 years old, which is a shame. Our eight year old daughter was allowed because we booked prior to their policy change. We booked the Canyon Adventure zip lining activity, which was a stunning way to explore the canyon. However, while the zip lining staff were friendly, they could have been a touch more sensitive and reassuring with our daughter.
