An excellent experience, good traditional food well presented with plenty of vegetables, extra gravy without having to ask and an apple crumble to beat them all. Many thanks for an enjoyable evening.

Dunster is beautiful and quiet in Easter. Dinner (at an extra cost) was also very good. Dog friendly hotel. Nothing, but worth mentioning that the free parking opposite the hotel gets busy. There is, however, room to stop and unload luggage. There is a paid parking 5 min away with enough space at least during Easter.

- Phyllida (7/5): Friendly, old fashioned and right in the centre of Dunster - A small, old fashioned hotel with friendly staff team (of two) and a very good breakfast. There is a lift for guests with limited mobility but you have to be able to managed steps too. The bathroom in our room was tiny.

Such a friendly hotel with spacious family rooms, suitable for young and older children. Delicious food and specialist weekends from jazz to stargazing! We will be back.

Happy with food at breakfast and dinner. Drinks reasonably priced. Owner went out of his way to provide complimentary soup, bread, hot drinks when we returned from a particularly wet & windy walk! Would definitely visit again.

(cleaning materials placed in bedroom for customers use). very plain ,old fashioned 1950's feel. breakfast was fine. dinner menu limited and bland lots of boiled veg. ( if you'r lucky there is some free street parking. we got lucky) otherwise pay/park 5-10 mins away . cant honestly recommend this hotel, fairly expensive for average accommodation. feel prices high due to location.

- barbaradY5244UQ (10/5): Lovely stay - Spent a lovely two nights at the Yarn Market hotel on a dog friendly holiday. Every member of staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and three course dinners on both days very tasty. Mark our guide for the walks very knowledgeable along with the pace and length were just right for our large party of 17 with our dogs. Only negative is the pay car park which was £6.30 each day as free street parking limited.

- Happytravellers75 (6/5): Disappointing meal in the restaurant - Staff very friendly and welcoming. We didn’t stay over but just had an evening meal and this was disappointing. Scampi to start was just a few tiny breaded scampi for £7 far too expensive for what was on the plate. The lamb was very tender but so much thick gravy on it could hardly see the meat. Would have preferred gravy to be in a small jug on the side as everyone likes different amounts. No fresh green veg just a dish of mushy pale veg like courgettes etc definitely frozen. Because the staff were so friendly I gave this 3 stars but the food was only worth 2.
- sus63uk (8/5): Small friendly clean hotel with great location and super helpful staff - Had a lovely 2-night dog-friendly stay with friends, meeting up with fellow dog-friendly guests for an organised break. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with friendly faces and had our small cases carried up to our room. Our stay included breakfast (build-your-own hot, as well as cereals and toast) and a 3-course dinner which was very good on both nights. Hotel staff go above and beyond! Mark was our 'tour guide' both days and he put on several great walks, giving us lots of knowledge and history on the way. The only downside was the size of our double room: the room was quite small for 2 adults moving around (ditto for the bathroom), as was the bed which I would class as a small or 3/4s double. But it was comfy and the room and bathroom very clean with great views over the High Street. There are fans in each room which is needed due to the small size making it very warm (our sash window opened just fine, though, so that helped). The service and friendliness of this hotel (and location) made it a memorable stay and I'd be very happy to stay again.

It was very useful to have late access as we were in Dunster for a wedding, the window seats in the breakfast room were very pleasant looking out onto the. historic high street The decor was a little dated but this is only a reflection of taste, to others it may seem quaint. Obviously the building is old with narrow and winding stairs which is part of its charm I don't know the answer to the problem of carrying luggage to the upper floors other than the helpful manager, or designate another member of staff to double as an on call porter!

- Ousontlesbaggages (8/5): Basic but good value for money. - Dated but in keeping with the feel of the town. Basic facilities but clean and comfortable, if a bit tight on space in our room. Reasonable English breakfast, a bit limited otherwise. Can’t comment on other meals. Staff readily available and helpful and friendly. Could be a problem for guests with restricted mobility - the stairs are from an age before disabled access was a thing. I think there was a lift but suggest check with the property before booking if this might be an issue for you. Five star accommodation it isn’t but value for money and ideally located in this historic town it certainly is. Recommend? Yes, as long as you’re not looking for big city style and facilities, but then perhaps you shouldn’t be going to Dunster in the first place.

- Fearless64688728887 (10/5): Fantastic staff - Old fashioned bend over backwards to accommodate you - I have just moved to Dunster, I was taking a walk on a late Sunday afternoon, and I happened upon the sign advertising roast Sunday dinners. I stepped into the lounge bar where I was greeted with such welcome. I was not keen to eat at the restaurant as I was alone. So I asked if it was alright for me to eat in the lounge bar. ( This is not usually an option) The manager was so kind, he had the table laid up for me, served me a drink from the quiet and currently vacant bar. I was asked consistently if I needed anything, and I had one of the best roasts in years. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Wonderful staff, fantastic manager. Thank you all of you. Including the chief!!!

Car parking at Dunster Deep was £6 per 24 hours and only 5 minutes walk away. The hotel layout is quirky, but has everything you want and the staff were great. The Quilling Guild's first-ever residential break experience at the Yarn Market Hotel was perfect in every way! Comfortable rooms, delicious food (tailored to our requirements), superb location, a spacious and well-equipped hobby room for our exclusive use ... just brilliant! Better still, nothing was too much trouble for Antony and his excellent team who looked after us so well and arranged transport for sightseeing trips to some truly wonderful places without us even asking! This hotel is just perfect for a residential hobby break such as ours, and we will be back (return trip booked already!)

- Peter (10/5): Excellent traditional hotel in the heart of Dunster - Located right by the famous octagonal Yarn Market and in sight of the Castle, which is a couple of hundred yards away, the staff of this traditional hotel make you feel very welcome, not least because of a generous full English breakfast. Parking anywhere in Dunster is a challenge. There is a large pay car park a couple of hundred yards away where you can leave your car once you’ve dropped your bag. That said, I managed to park on both nights of our stay free of charge on the street.

It is an old building full of character. The food was excellent, the hotel was very clean, and all staff were very friendly.and could not do enough to make the stay enjoyable. Dunster is a delightful place, and cannot wait to return

- Richard (7/5): Dunster is well worth a visit , a delightful village and castle . - The Hotel is located on the high street in the centre of Dunster , offering easy access by foot to the village and castle . We opted for an evening meal which along with the breakfast were very well presented and great food . The Yarn hotel offered good value for money compared with local hotels . The bar area at the back of the hotel was a little confined , we opted to go out elsewhere for an evening drink .
- carolinewX8467YJ (10/5): Ideal base for walkers - Fabulous base for walking, the hotel is well set up for groups of walkers with good food, packed lunches and lots of single rooms. I travelled with my Ramblers group - 20 of us- for a 4 night / 3 day walking holiday. The walk leader Julian from Wilkes Walks had used the hotel before and it proved itself a great choice. Privately owned by Anthony for 40 years, he really cares for guests, one evening taking us out at 20.30 to see the sunset at Dunster beach - above and beyond. Very tasty food - the mushrooms at breakfast were amazing, as was the scrambled egg. Packed lunches for £6 were bought every day as so reasonable and perfect for us. Dinner was 3 course with a choice of 4 dishes for each course. All appetising and the kitchen even let two of us have extra custard with our puddings! Central location, parking in the high street, walking distance from Dunster castle. The hotel even have their own mini bus and people carrier so can drop you off / pick up at the end of the walks each day. Fabulous helpful staff as well. Cant wait to go back!

Roast beef and turkey with Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables (amazing cheesy leeks!) followed by Dunster apple pie and custard. Super customer service. Our dog Betty was made most welcome too. We will 💯 be back!

- Paxo2000 (10/5): A great country walk in Exmoor - Hi I did an organised walk, run by Mark Curran from the yarn market and Phil, who volunteers for Exmoor rescue. It was a fantastic part of Exmoor that I have never been before, well organised, friendly and very informative. I will definitely be going with them again, looking forward to the next walk.
- Francis020 (10/5): Sunday lunch - We were staying nearby and on Saturday we noticed they were offering a Sunday lunch, which I understand they do only occasionally, and it looked like good value at £15 for two courses, so we booked. On Sunday we returned and we were taken to our table and we enjoyed a very good traditional roast lunch ( beef and turkey with all the trimmings). Excellent veg. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We had a very nice time and I would recommend this venue to anybody. The beer was very good ( and reasonably) priced too.

- Sue (8/5): A pleasant hotel and the breakfast was very nice. - The property was fine as I expected. The room was nice and I could get the lift to the room as promised as I had a hip problem. Couldn’t park close by. Even the disabled space was taken by a big white van without a badge. I managed to park in car park nearby.
- SussexWomble (10/5): Looked After Splendidly - Stayed here for the Dark Skies Festival, and can't fault the place or how we were looked after. The owner and the staff make every effort to make you comfortable, and well fed. If you have a chance to go to one of their event weekends, do so. If you want a weekend away in beautiful country, go here.

Traditional breakfast available, the cooked one nicely cooked, not greasy and plenty of it. Cereal also available. Staff were very courteous, nothing too much trouble. Asked for mugs for our room instead of the paper ones provided as we were staying for 4 nights - supplied straight away. Bedroom good though bed could have been bigger. Nice hot shower. Everything very clean.
- DorisMB2157 (10/5): Lovely stay at The Yarn Market Hotel, Dunster - A bit late to make a review but I must! I stayed with a walking group in October for 3 nights. There was nothing you could fault, when we arrived our bags were taken up to our rooms, which were very clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much for them. The food was brilliant from the breakfast, packed lunch and the 3 course evening meal, we certainly had lots to eat. We hope that we will be back next year. We are still talking about our staywith you and have recommended the hotel to so many friends. Thank you Antony and your team.

Accommodation is not modern, but is clean, comfortable and quiet for a great night's sleep. Traditional British food in generous portions for breakfast and dinner, and especially enjoyed the hearty soups and delicious desserts.

Nothing is too much trouble. The area boasts a castle, individual shops, tearooms and many walking routs. The town itself is historic. Highly recommend a visit and stay at The Yarn Market Hotel.
- MrNaylor (10/5): Excellent accommodation in Dunster. - We stayed at the Yarn Market Hotel on a Dog Friendly weekend. All the staff and Proprietor were very welcoming and the rooms were nice and comfortable. The food was mouth-watering and all freshly cooked. Over the weekend, the walks led by the receptionist were very pleasant and informative. We will certainly stay there again sometime in the future.

- Explorer512759 (8/5): A very good hotel - We visited as part of a walking group holiday and this hotel was an ideal venue - not too formal and well-suited to our needs. Accommodation was clean and comfortable and the quality and variety of food was excellent. As well as the well-prepared breakfasts and dinners, we had the option of purchasing packed lunches, which were ready and waiting for us each morning. No one minded a slightly chaotic (at times!) group of older people, complete with walking boots and poles, invading the property! But what really made this hotel a place to remember was the quality of the staff. Nothing was too much for them. When we had a small plumbing issue in our bathroom, that was dealt with swiftly and professionally. Above all, every single member of staff was helpful and friendly and very quickly built up relationships with their customers. We would give them 5 stars and more for their service. In fact, our group was so impressed by the hotel that we have rebooked for next year. Thank you, all the staff at the Yarn Market, for helping to make our holiday an enjoyable success!

I didn't like that although there were tea/coffee making facilities in the room. There were only paper cups supplied nor really the standard expected given the price of the accomodation. There was no ambience, all very basic.

- Julia (5/5): Fabulous location, mediocre experience - The outside of the hotel, the view up to the castle, the 4 poster, comfortable bed. The location was phenominal and slap bang in the middle of this wonderful village of Dunster. This is a tired hotel and even given its age it couldnt be excused by calling it just quaint. I'm sorry to give this review because there were lots of good things but the not so good outweighed them. The tables in the breakfast room were that sticky tired old table sort, the food was okay but quite pricey and the decor was dated. Even in an old building it's possible to update in keeping.

- Sylvie (5/5): It was a lovely place to stay, just a shame about the bed. - Lovely location. The staff are all helpful and friendly. The mattress on the bed in our room was very uncomfortable. We were not aware we could go downstairs in the middle of the night and use the phone in reception to call someone about it. No phone in the room and no signal on our mobiles, due to the location.

- Laura (8/5): Fabulous location - Fabulous location looking down on the Yarnmarket. Room was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast was excellent, with both continental and cooked available. All staff really friendly and helful My only comment is that rooms are not serviced at all, not even bins emptied due to COVID. This just seems a little outdated now. You can request toiletries, tea, coffee etc, and even a rubbish bag which is then left outside the bedroom door. We were only there a couple of days so it didn't matter.
- Zoe (9/5): Lovely staff and very attentive with alternative arrangements - Hotel manager was so lovely and friendly! Always making sure to stop for a chat and showed an interest in the reason we were visiting. We stayed at the hotel for a race near by, the hotel put on a very early self service breakfast for a 5am start which we really appreciated!
