Guest Reviews
- Michael (8/5): Really a pleasant and comfortable experience and stay. - The history! The location was fantastic the history of the buildings was interesting to hear. The decor is fitting and appropriate to the historical background and the rooms were well furnished and comfortable What’s not to like about this property !
- Qotoyi (10/5): - The host, their breakfast, comfortable beds, and the view. Nothing
- Cornelia (10/5): Einfach toll.
- Robert (9/5): - Historic property. Quiet location. Great views. Opportunity to walk /run around vineyard. GPS directions do not give best route to property.
- Nikolay (10/5): -
- Brendon (4/5): Not quite there - Location is great. Too much money for the place, there were things that were broken and the breakfast was a continental and a bit sub par. Bed was a bit lopsided
- Tatianka13 (1/5): Theft in hotel! -
- Dan Widdowson (5/5): Has huge potential, not great right now - Authentic cape farm from the 1800s - lots of history, interesting architecture, very different to most accomodation in SA. We stayed in 'Villa' at the rear of the property - a large living area with a comfortable sitting area and adequate kitchen for basics. Bedrooms were large with comfortable beds and each had their own shower room. The solid brick buildings were cool despite the warm weather. Dewald, the custodian of the property showed us around at length and was very keen to help. Our family of 4 were split with some not liking the older, rustic style of the property. We were told that the property had very recently changed hands and was in the process of undergoing extensive improvement. Several things in the Villa were not ok (loose washbasin, poorly sealing French doors, brown watet) but we were told that these were all to be rectified shortly. The swimming pool was dark and unappealing. The breakfast was basic and we had to go out for an additional breakfast instead. Reasons for optimism for future guests but not great for us, hence our low rating - in its current state it wasn't worth what we paid. Also this is advertised as Stellenbosh but take care as the town is some 35 minutes drive away. The location is actually closer to the northern suburbs.

- joanne (10/5): Another wonderful stay. Thank you - Beautiful peaceful well maintained property Nothing to dislike
- Stanislav (10/5): - I highly recommend this place. Everything here is beautiful. If you like places with history, you should definitely come here. Stunning antique furniture, stunning nature, breathtaking views. Everything in the rooms is thought out to the smallest detail. Thank you to the hosts for their hospitality.
- Riccardo (2/5): - Good location only 0.5 hours from Stellenbosch. No electricity in the room for almost the entire stay. This does not work well when travelling South Africa. Staff was very unhelpful in finding a solution; suggested asking for a partial refund through Booking after the stay, and later reneged.

- V Vuuren (10/5): -

- Patricia (4/5): Disappointing.. owner needs to upgrade and Management needs to manage -all areas besides the lovely roast chicken dinne - Beautiful Main house The back rooms /the access to the annexe was shabby . Gardens untidy .on arrival the patio needed a-good clean - very dusty/dead plants in pots .. peeling paint .. empty flower pot filled with sand only- one room floor paint peeling -no attempt to improve look for arrival . After complaining-then there were workers in the garden . I removed the “dead sandy pot plant “ From the room . The tea/coffee not restocked
- Jason (5/5): I’m sure this will be a lovely property when completed - It’s a lovely main house however that’s about it and I know this is a project however should state that when booking Only the main house is completed the apartments whilst well appointed internally are in disrepair externally along with the gardens being poorly maintained and the pool could not be used as was filthy
- Muller (2/5): Tyhe experience was a horror. I left on the 2nd morning as I could not face another day - Basically every aspect of our stay and use of the facilities as well as the service of the staff was appalling. Please see my ratings above . The property is in a shocking state of repair. The staff are unfriendly and incompetent, The rooms are not secure= cannot lock. The water supply is erratic. Some fittings in bathroom are missing and/or defective,
The gardens are unkept, The coffee is undrinkable .etc etc
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Louis (2/5): A disaster! Dirty, old, rude staff - The location is not too bad - extremely dirty rooms (see pictures)
- the pool water is muddy. It is so dirty that we can’t see through it (see pictures)
- whole property is poorly maintained, the garden is a mess and the buildings as well
- Claudia (1/5): -
- Delfinita (7/5): Nice but expected more - Big room with comfortable bed.
Beautiful view from the main terrace having breakfast over the reflection pool and the vineyards
Willy is great and staff was very friendly No air condition in the room, just a fan. When we were there, it had 41 degrees (mid of March).
No real dinner offering
There was a big group of >20 people having a party which was quite disturbing
No chairs or table in front of the room (little terrace)
Cleaning was not done properly
- Viktor (8/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - Not our first visit and we will return. The staff are lovely and it's a very pretty house and farm.
- Aleksei (10/5): -
- Craig (8/5): Comfortable and tranquil, lot’s of history. - Great location, very friendly staff, tranquil, comfortable room. The shower leaked and flooded the kitchenette. The washer in the basin was non-existent, it did not hold water. The place is a bit rundown. I think you need more hanging space for longer dresses and more plug points.
- Jean-Marc (9/5): -
- Berit (9/5): -
- Berit (9/5): -
Veel last van muggen gehad
- Jürgen (5/5): -
- Caroline (9/5): Great hosts, goes out their way to make you comfortable. Would definitely recommend this establishment. - The cleanliness, tranquility and warm friendly staff Water in my room did not heat up
- Thomas (7/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Lovely sunset view of Table Mountain - Lots of character and charm.
- Juliette (10/5): -
- Wendelyn (8/5): -
Schade
- Frank (9/5): Authentiek betaalbaar en gezellig - Zeer vriendelijk personeel. Goed ontbijt. Gezellig terras. De aanduiding naar de bestemming.
- Norma (8/5): - Beautiful old listed farm house and property. Lovely breakfast well served.
Our bathroom could do with a renovation. The shower in our en suite was rather out of date.
The expansive gardens were sadly overgrown and in need of attention
- karen (4/5): Shabby Chic - The manager William. Without his warm spirit we would have left as soon as we arrived.
Good breakfast provided by friendly staff.
The history of the property was what interested us originally and the views were spectacular.
Clean towels and bedding. Dilapidated bathrooms with disgusting wooden toilet seat that didn’t look clean.
Extremely Poor lighting in rooms.
The pillows needed renewing.
In general the place looked like it needs a lot of TLC. Our room had a nice marble coffee table but the legs were not substantial enough to hold it.
No catering facilities (evenings)so you are totally reliant on travelling to Stellanbosch to eat
Your photos on booking.com are very misleading
- Marine (10/5): A bliss in the Eden garden - The house is gorgeous Some customers very prompt to complain loudly
Not your fault haha
- Sokoni (10/5): Beautiful and comfortable. Very therapeutic. - Extremely beautiful and serene Far from main town
- Paulina (7/5): - room was confutable place a bit negleted
- Rees (8/5): -
- Zuzanna (10/5): -
- Weaver (8/5): Lovely stay in the winelands - Secluded and quiet. Lovely big room. Staff were attentive. A bit further from Stellenbosch/Franshoek than we had planned but Uber was available
- Hannele (6/5): -
- nojdavison (8/5): - This a historic property and has retained its old world charm whilst still providing modern comforts
- sabri (9/5): -
- Lotta Farber (3/5): Wouldn’t Recommend - The room was large and the bathroom was clean and large as well. But apart from this, most of everything else at this place was pretty much a disappointment. My husband and I needed help with bringing our suitcase/luggage into the main manor. The staff wasn’t present, and after we followed up walking around the place and finding him, he was on the phone (almost the entire time we stayed there too) and was almost reluctant to help us with it.
After that, there was a full power cut, with no back-up at all.
This also meant, for some reason, that there was no water - not for showers, not for flushing the toilet, not to wash hands. We couldn't use the loo or bathe or anything because of this! Sorry for the TMI!
There was just 1 fan with a short cord in that large room, and the plug unit for it was only on one side of the bed. So two people on a summer night could not feel the breeze of the short-leashed fan that only served 1 person, who’s side it was on. And this was only when the electricity worked for a short while.
Breakfast was extremely average, the most disappointing meal we had, thru our entire stay in South Africa (because food in this country was otherwise amazing everywhere else). It was like having a very cheap and limited, backpackers' style free breakfast at a random asian hole-in-the-wall in the Philippines or something.
And of course, we lugged our suitcases back thru sand and gravel back to the car ourselves, because the caretaker was on his phone and too busy to help out.
Extremely disappointed with all of it really.
- Lucky (10/5): -
On adore Rien
- Lydia (9/5): -
- Tamara (1/5): - when we arrived, our room had an extremely dirty and non-functioning toilet, which clearly shows that it had not been cleaned or properly checked.
In addition, brown and dirty water was coming out of the tap.
When we contacted the administrator, he said they were trying to fix the issue, but there would be no water that day.
As a result, we had to look for another hotel and move out.
The administrator told us that we would be able to get a refund through Booking, since we had to pay for another hotel and did not use the room at all. However, when we requested the refund, the hotel rejected it.
We feel deceived and left with a very unpleasant impression, even though the location itself is beautiful.
- Anja (10/5): Ein kleines Paradies - Das Ambiente.

- Mykhaylo (6/5): -
- Antonia (10/5): Beautiful manor, wonderful stay. - Loved this place. Amazing manor, extremely comepetent staff and great food.
- Dewald (10/5): -
- FABRINI (10/5): Excepcional - Local maravilhoso. Uma hospedagem com história e arte. Conforto, privacidade, beleza local ( vistas deslumbrantes).
- Renee (9/5): Serene and spacious. Super-helpful staff. - Magnificently warm and willing team. Generous, high quality breakfast spreads. The spacious communal areas (both indoors and outdoors) were a delight for our family of twelve adults to enjoy a relaxed and convivial 3 days together. The views over the valley from the main house provided perfect vantage points from which to appreciate birds in flight and the tranquillity of dusk and dawn. As may be expected from such old buildings, some of the bedrooms retained a musty smell.
- Patience (8/5): - Tranquility The place could be painted to look more attractive in the back houses not only focus in the main house
- Dias (8/5): - The people were very helpful and hospitable,it was a great atmosphere and we met new people from various countries
- FRANCESCA (8/5): An ideally located place to visit Franschoek and Stellenbosh - The views from the property were incredible - it was a quiet and romantic place to stay and perfectly located to visit wineries in Franschoek and Stellenbosh. The hotel is undergoing a sale so it requires a little TLC such as a pool cleaning.

- Richard (7/5): Comfortable homely accommodation in the middle of the Cape Winelands - Lovely spacious room with an old farm house feel. Despite the heat outside the very thick walls kept the room cool. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was very good. The breakfast was also very good. Lovely surrounding scenery and the location was quiet and very convenient for a wedding we attended in a nearby wine estate. We would have liked a little fridge in the room.
- Olga (5/5): Disappointing service - Everything is great except of mistake of staffs. They tried to accommodate our male guests in one room instead of booked and paid 2 rooms.🤔
And they told our guest that was booked one room. What was not true. Of course we decided. Next time they gave us double room instead of twin room. It was mistake of manager. To many mistakes last time. We'd wish more professional work from staff.
- Dries (1/5): Avoid it - Nothing Everything. It is run down and old and the facility and properly is in serious need of maintenance.
- Lukas (9/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): - Stunning setting- great ambience- staff suoerb Please buy some decent pillows
- Zandy (10/5): - The Views and the comfort in the room Meals not so great but the heart of service from the team was amazing very hospitable and loving, smilling and friendly all the time.
- Candice (10/5): - Amazing stay, wonderful breakfast, staff are amazing, location is beautiful
- Olivia (10/5): Beautiful and tranquil place - A wonderful place to stay. Delicious breakfast. Dinner on offer if you wanted it. Fridge and coffee / tea facilities in room. My room was huge and beautiful with a lovely bathroom as well. Beautiful views out of the many windows onto the lovely gardens. The view from the house and the pool was also stunning. Beautiful decorations in my room and the house. Very friendly helpful staff. Generally just a really comfortable, beautiful and relaxing place to spend a few days not doing much more than reading a book and lying in the sun. Would 100% recommend. Can't think of anything that needed improving on it was great.
- Aphiwe (8/5): Perfect for a countryside getaway - We had such a lovely stay at Hawksmoor House. I really enjoyed how rustic and serene it was. The staff were also very kind and attentive. We had an issue with our shower being blocked but I was made aware that they are in the process of renovating.
- Krianka (3/5): Bad accommodation at Hawksmoor - The location and the history of the place. Beautiful surroundings. Fair breakfast. Facilities in the room needs major upgrade, especially the bathroom. Said it had aircons, there was none. Although there were fans.
Dirty windows. Areas around the rooms, unswept and not washed and clean. Light fittings inside and out not working and filthy. One of the rooms without a hairdryer. Bugs were out of control in the rooms, couldn't open the windows at all due to that. Outside, the cushioned seats were filthy and wet. Nothing is removed in the evenings at all, just left outside to rot. Flower beds and trees etc not well kept at all. Place is not welcoming at all. Parking bays looks abandoned, not well lit as well. Lots of work needs to get done on the entire property in order for a 4 star rating. That 4 star rating must be removed. It is false advertising. I had to leave a day earlier because we couldn't stand another uncomfortable night there. The sand road leading to the establishment needs alot of attention. Perhaps a tiny gravel strewn road would be the way forward in keeping with the look of the buildings and the place. Such a beautiful place but sorely neglected.
