- Carmina (7/5): -
- Dikkie (2/5): -
- Julie (7/5): Did what it said on the tin, comfortable enough, decent breakfast, but needs a bit of a make over & updating! - Location, cosy single room, & good breakfast choice. Poor WiFi.
I had a good stay, decent sleep & breakfast/ shower, but like previous reviews…it’s seen better days & is dated….it needs a make over & decorating!
- Mark (9/5): Used the hotel from cycling from Newcastle to Edinburgh. Was shown where the bike shed was. Nothing was too much trouble - Historic, great breakfast and friendly staff.
- Susan (8/5): Lovely experience food next door excellent - Kippers brilliant
Room lovely
Location excellent for walking coastal path Nothing
- Amanda (7/5): Good value stay - Great position for accessing Amble and Warkworth.
The room wasn’t huge but it was clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was good.
- Rosemary (8/5): -
- Bridget (8/5): A good, comfortable place to stay in the centre of beautiful Warkworth. - The location is excellent, and the room was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast menu was quite extensive, but was predominantly cooked items which were very meat and calorie heavy. A bit more fresh fruit and some continental options would have been welcome.
- Julie (9/5): Would definitely stay at the Sun Hotel again - Friendly staff, great breakfast, good beer next door at the Tap, good parking, Warkworth is a great place to visit Quite a few cobwebs everywhere, some carpets and furnishings a little tired but none of this was detrimental to the overall stay.
- Michael (8/5): Ideal location for exploring Warkworth & Amble - Lovely gastro pub with great food & friendly atmosphere next door.
Great location next to the castle.
Lots of period features.
Plenty of car parking Room a bit small & decor a bit tired, but still fine for our one night stopover
- Irene (5/5): Adequate. - Breakfast very good. We expected to eat in the hotel for our evening meal, but we had to go next door to the pub, which in our opinion was not really an evening meal exprerience
- Anne (10/5): -
- Julie (5/5): -
- Jean (10/5): - It was right opposite the castle lovely staff at breakfast good breakfast choice
- Alison (8/5): Always good value and great location - Great location, super breakfast and good value. Bedlinen and towels were beautiful. Beds weren’t very comfortable.
- nigel (10/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): - Wonderful breakfast. Ideal location for a walk down to the river.
- Alan (8/5): Worth the trip and an enjoyable stay - Good room, great view, breakfast choices very good, staff excellent, dining room with character and a great pub NIL
- STRACHAN (1/5): Unacceptable - Very little!!
Room was 'ok' Hotel was drab and dull - whole place needs an overhaul
No Night Manager available - totally unacceptable considering we paid £136.50 for one night- fire alarm went off around 12.30.am - residents had to evacuate until Fire Services, who had been called, told us it was safe to re-enter the building - residents were outside building in nightwear for 30-40 minutes
They silenced the alarm but could not re-set it
Breakfast was poor - fried eggs were burnt, and bacon was overdone
Dining room was very drab
No senior staff available to apologise for the inconvenience
- Glenis (8/5): -
- Karen (5/5): - It was local, The property was expensive and not good value, massive cobwebs in bedroom, windows that didn’t lock, room was cool
- Janet (7/5): -
- Louise (7/5): Great location and lovely staff - The staff were great, room a bit small but had everything we needed, location was excellent with a view of the castle, the only issue was the flag pole outside banging all night due to high winds, this impacted on the amount of sleep we were able to get. Breakfast was very good.
- Michele (7/5): - Fantastic Breakfast and lovely bar and breakfast staff Problems with shower and no one around to help
- Kathryn (8/5): Would definitely return - Breakfast was good. Staff work hard at such a precarious time.
- Ian (8/5): Great location in interesting village with a Castle view. - Good, with free parking; recently refurbished room with opening window, clean, comfortable bed, a desk and chair, good shower and wifi. Ticks all the boxes for a working stay. Internal local pub, a bonus. Room a little tight, even for a single for 1 night.
- michele (9/5): Very peaceful and lovely view of the castle - Loved the character of the building Too many stairs for me. Especially steps down into the bathroom. I would ask for room with ensuite on the level
- Angela (9/5): A perfect base to explore and so dog friendly. - The room was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the cooked breakfasts each morning. The location is perfect and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. Nothing.
- Brian (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Davidd (10/5): - Lovely clean rooms, welcoming staff, great breakfast and bar next door.. And amazing location !
- Steve (8/5): Very good - Location, friendly staff and great breakfast Room was a bit tired
- Ken (8/5): Great break - Nice breakfast and nice toast for my second day really large scottie sandwich with coleslaw and chips in the bar with a nice pint of Guinness, great parking all around the hotel, would have liked to try the Craster kippers for breakfast, but chickened out A bus stop nearer the hotel would have been nice and a bit warmer weather also a tea /coffee shop in the village as the previous one owner has retired....it is a miss and a great opportunity for someone
- Gillian (8/5): Very good - Excellent breakfast. Perfect location for coastal path.
- Anna (8/5): -
- David (4/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Really enjoyed our stay - The breakfast was really nice
- Christopher (8/5): GREAT BASE TO EXPLORE THE NE - Location and great breakfast! Nothing really. The room was a bit small, but it was standard level and had everything we needed
- Zoë (8/5): A good place to stay in Warkworth - Fabulous location, comfortable room with a beautiful view, decent breakfast and felt quiet and safe Something to be aware of especially in summer, if you have a room at the back and open the window, the bins were right below my room and the smell was quite pungent.
- Lee (4/5): Disappointed from what was advertised, what we expected, and the cost for what we received. - Friendly staff Pets - pet friendly hotel, which is good i guess. But the blanket on our bed had dog hairs in! Either they need separate rooms for pet people, different blankets for pets, or both.
WiFi- would not work in the hotel bedroom. Only in the hallways.
Breakfast- was not a great Breakfast. Small and disappointing. Also kippers should be banned! All we could smell and taste were kippers!
- Terry (10/5): -
- James marchant (8/5): - Great hotel, fantastic staff who were v helpful. Plenty of parking. Great views of the castle. Also on a bus route Nothing
- Claire (7/5): Very pleasurable - Very clean and adequate Nothing
- Glen (1/5): -
- Markal84 (7/5): - Location was great, really nice village, hotel looks lovely outside breakfast was lovely staff were nice Price was little high as bed was very squeaky and not that comfortable prices in the pub were really high especially the cans of coke
- Fred (8/5): Great value for money. - Full of character and charm. Very helpful staff great breakfast. Nothing
- Brown (4/5): Disappointing but thankfully it was for just one night. - Full vegetarian breakfast served did not match what was on the menu - had to ask for missing item. Member of staff serving was very polite, friendly and obliging Discombobulating to learn there were no staff in the hotel overnight. At 81 and travelling alone I felt vulnerable. The room was cramped and shabby - nothing like the room on the website. No curtains and the slats on the blinds had to be closed manually.
- Carl (10/5): - Staff amazing giv me lovely family room breakfast amazing lovely friendly staff serving breakfast will be back but stay longer
- Angela (10/5): -
- Joanne (8/5): Good value for money , great location . - The location Nothing

Excellent pub next door with very good food and beer
Staff friendly and attentive No bad points
- Marshall (9/5): - It was all good ,a very tasty breakfast . We booked a room with a view of the castle . Unfortunately we didnt get the room we booked . That aside it was all good .
- Tracy (10/5): We stayed for our anniversary, was so nice..definitely staying agaun - Staff were really friendly, breakfast was absolutely beautiful. Will definitely be staying there again 5*
- stephen (4/5): Very very disappointing. A beautiful looking hotel in a fabulous location but in need of attention. - The location. Very tired in great need of TLC. It could be a lovely hotel but need to close for a couple of weeks for a deep clean and face lift to make the most of some lovely features.
Tiny room (premier rooms look better), marked bedding, dusty due to superficial cleaning only. You did not have to look far to find dirt and grime.
- Stephanie (9/5): Great location for a visit to Warkworth/Amble - Friendly staff on check in and given information about WiFi, breakfast times and location. Great location with good parking. Lovely room with kettle, hairdryer and iron/ironing board provided. WiFi kept dropping in/out but it's usually in Northumberland
- Joshua (10/5): - Great location close to castle. Nice room and yummy breakfast
- Anne (7/5): Peaceful location with wonderful views - Shower controls didn’t work very well had trouble with temperature and turning shower off afterwards.
Breakfast was excellent
Location was perfect for our needs A lighter duvet would have been good as found it rather warm during the night
- David (8/5): - Excellent location, close to Castle, High Street and local beaches
- Jennifer (8/5): Spotless. Comfortable. Amazing location. Great food and company in pub. - The breakfast was amazing. Lots of choice, friendly staff, dogs allowed and a stunning breakfast room! I was surprised at how small the room was. I thought I’d read somewhere that all the bedrooms were of a very good size. I would still recommend but (in the case of a single bed room) only for a one, or two maximum, nights.
- Julie (4/5): Very disappointing - Nothing, would never stay again Room and bathroom dirty. Wallpaper hanging off walls, cracks in sink, holes in bedding, carpet dirty and smelly. Extremely disappointing. Dining room was also in need of a deep clean
- Theodore (4/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): Great overnight stay.... - Lovely dog friendly accommodation. Warm welcome. Warm cosy room with a view of the castle. Gorgeous veggie breakfast. Will definitely be back. X N/A
- Gray (10/5): Lovely room, excellent value & very good breakfast - Lovely room, excellent value & very good breakfast
- Joanne (10/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Perfect location for our short stay requirements. - Great location, friendly staff. Adequate car park space (despite the snow!). Friendly pub adjoining hotel offering food and drinks.
Room on small side but the view made up for it. Tea/coffee in room bonus.
- Susan (7/5): -
- Philip (6/5): Nice break between Christmas and New Year. - Location excellent, breakfast tasty but limited choice compared to other places we've stayed. Room was very small. Bed not even a double size and the mattress was 'dead'. Bathroom very small, shower control was useless as red hot all the time.
- Kim (8/5): New year stay - The staff very friendly
Good choice of breakfast
Dog friendly
Good shower
Nice towels Room very small
Pillows very flat and need replacing.
- Francesca (4/5): -
- STEPHEN (9/5): - Traditional comfortable clean
- Shelley (10/5): Brilliant family stay - Situated in a beautiful spot close to the village, rooms were lovely and clean and bed was comfy ,staff couldn't be more helpful service was excellent, food was great plenty on offer for breakfast and menu throughout the day definitely would recommend in every way ,
- libbyelle (7/5): -
- Ian (10/5): - Lovely location and food was excellent 👌
- John (5/5): - Breakfast choice good, good pub next door. Value for money Room and hotel a bit dated.Needs refurbishing .
- Marina (8/5): - Excellent location and very helpful staff. Very dog friendly. N/A
- Theo (8/5): Great location opposite the castle and warm, welcoming staff - The staff were really kind and welcoming. Even made a bacon sarnie to take to the train when we weren’t able to make breakfast.
- anthony (1/5): -
- kevin Richardson (10/5): - Lovely place to stay Nothing to dislike
- Moira Malcolm (10/5): -
- antony (8/5): Good stay and no reason not to recommend - Breakfast tasty, was worried about noise from corridor in evening but did not need to, quiet. Room was warm so slept with window open. Nothing too much. As expected, room comfortable and modern enough. Door solid but gap at bottom so noise came through but not excessive
- Alison (7/5): Hotel is lovely building but needs a little TLC - Perfect location in the centre of Warkworth and right opposite the castle. The bedroom was cold and we could not get the radiator to turn on. The building is old and therefore single glazed.
- Liz (7/5): -
- brown (8/5): -
- Andrew (6/5): - Friendly staff. Food was good Bedroom barely had any heating, no heating in the shower room. Cobwebs by the toilet. No toast offered at breakfast.
- Wade (10/5): -
- Lynn (6/5): Average - Location The room was old fashioned and quite small. The breakfasts were really disappointing.
- tony (9/5): A nights stopover - Great location and excellent value for money. Nothing
- Sharon (8/5): A comfortable hotel in the heart of warkworth. Great value - Location - It was a short walk from all the village pubs and shops
Breakfast - there was so much choice for breakfast including a full breakfast, continental, kippers, eggs on toast (however you liked your eggs), porridge and a good choice of cereals.
Comfort - the room was clean and comfortable and the room itself was nicely decorated and in keeping with the property
Staff- helpful, friendly staff. Nothing any trouble.
Parking - Plenty of parking at the hotel
Bar - hawkstone lager available which was lovely. A good selection of drinks and hot drinks available too. A nice comfortable bar to sit in.
Bar food - we had a Sunday dinner which was delicious. Highly recommended Bathroom- whilst the room itself was nice and in keeping with the building, the bathroom was a little garish and looked like a nightclub toilet. And you couldn’t put anything on the shelf above the sink as it is hanging off and needs securing to the wall
Wi-Fi- the Wi-Fi upstairs is awful. Probably due to the age and structure of the building. You can barely get a signal at all. It’s good if you want some time away without any communication (sometimes it’s nice to escape the internet etc) but if you want to check in on work or anything on the net, it’s almost impossible especially on the night of the hotel pub quiz when we assume everyone was looking up the answers online (naughty naughty!).
The Wi-Fi is great downstairs and we took our laptops to the bar to get online for it husband to check in on any work problems.
But these were the only 2 problems and the only reason I didn’t give it 10 out of 10. Other than that, it’s a great hotel and if we return to warkworth, we would definitely go back to the sun hotel
- Colin (10/5): -
- Jackie (5/5): Grubby. - The location is amazing, across the road from the castle and the staff are very friendly. The hotel itself has some beautiful features, but ... We arrived in the nick of time and reception was unmanned, which we expected. It did, however, give us a minute to take in the dirty stair carpet, chipped paint and shoddy reception area. Plus the smell of chips, that pervaded the corridors upstairs and the bedrooms. The bedroom itself was fine, comfortable beds and clean linen. Only wooden venetian blinds though. Curtains would have blocked out some of the light. There was also a fan "somewhere" that ran all night. We tried every switch so presumably centrally operated. The bathroom could definitely have been cleaner too. Great at eye level, but the bottom of the shower screen ...
My lasting memory of The Sun Inn will be a broken night's sleep, greeted by the smell of chip fat every time I woke up. I could smell it on my clothes until I got home this evening and changed.
Breakfast room could be fab, but the breakfast was average and more what I would expect in the local cafe. Fix the chipped paintwork, gouged wallpaper and take a vaccum cleaner with an extension fitting to the beautiful curtains and it would be a totally different place.
This could be a great hotel. With a carpet cleaner, a good few hours with a damp cloth and a bottle of Cif and not huge amount of money spent on internal decoration, it would certainly make a massive difference to the place. Oh, and the delivery of bread, milk, etc, left sitting on the floor just inside the main door for over an hour and a half doesn't make a great impression either!
Sorry, I don't normally give this type of review, but for the price you're charging you need to up your game. Cheapest in Warkworth, maybe, but not cheap enough for what it actually is.
- Mark (10/5): The Sun Hotel is a great place to stay. We will be back - in the near future! - We spend a wonderful over night weekend stay at The Sun Hotel. We had a warm welcome from a young man who gave us the key to The Secret Room (Room 1). The room was clean, warm and well presented. We ate in the attached pub and were served by the same hotel reception guy. We had a great sleep in a comfortable bed and quiet environment. Breakfast was also enjoyable. A friendly lady took our cooked order and we helped ourself to drinks and cereals. It is an old atmospheric building which we discovered was originally the coach house for Warkworth castle itself. We would be happy to return.
- David (8/5): Perfect for an overnight stay when cycling the Coast and Castles route. - There were two of us cycling, bikes were able to be stored overnight in a safe area.
The hotel suited our needs with separate rooms and breakfast included (good choice for breakfast including local Craster Kippers!)
Lots of hot water for a comfortable showers after a days riding.
Bar next to the hotel was welcoming with good selection of beers and lagers, food very tasty and freshly cooked. The central heating seemed to come on randomly, not on when arrived but came on a few times during the night.
Bed was "tired" and not particularly comfortable with loud squeaky noises but slept OK.
- Mark (8/5): - Food was really good The hotel needs some tlc
- andy (7/5): - Great location & good value Room was nice but needed a good clean.
