Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its a very nice location and excellent room, though we didn't get the room that we booked. As we were the first guests after their renovation, they weren't prepared to handle guests starting from check-in, house keeping to amenities (dust due to renovation work, no coffee making facilities, toiletries, no breakfast) etc...
- Rusty_Mc (2/5): - OMG, What did we book? Great location close to Taj, but at what cost? First let me state that we are from the US and our standards are different than in other parts of the world (not better or worse, just different) BUT!!!
Where to begin? Bare exposed wires hanging all round, light fixtures with no bulbs, no heat, (it was around 15C in the morning when we got ready to leave) towels that were at best rags, bed sheets with stains, tv that would not work, breakfast was 4 pieces of toast and a pat of butter, (not what was told to us when booking) We were awaken at 6:30 am with an attempt to deliver hot water via small bucket.
The staff was ok, but clearly put off when was asked for toilet paper because there was none on the dispenser in the bathroom. As with other reviews of OYO hotels, we can not recommend using any of their brand hotels based on this and other stays.
- Iqbal (10/5): Nice Hotel close to Taj Mahal. - Stayed There for 1 day, enjoyed the experience. Roof top dining is awesome. Rooms clean and tidy. Food is good. Special mention for hotel manager -Mr. Vipul for arranging such a wonderful candlelight dinner.
Kudos to hotel team and keep rocking.
- Neha (10/5): Very Good stay with a friendly staff. - I stayed in Mumtaz Mahal only for One night. My stay was very good. The services were very good. The staff was very friendly and happy to serve you. The best part was having dinner at the roof top restaurant facing the TAJ View.
- David (6/5): Nice rooftop view - Hotel Mumtaz Mahal has a great rooftop view which made it's faults easier to overlook. This is generally a hotel for locals and the staff only spoke passable English. Breakfast, when requested, took nearly an hour to prepare, but was good. It was even better to eat with the exquisite view of the Taj Mahal. Great sunsets, too! If only they would fix up that rooftop!
- Farhad (6/5): - Hot water only available until 11 am
- Nikki (8/5): Decent.. - Basic but decently clean and reasonably comfortable.. ongoing renos, kitchen was never open, menu not appealing anyways.. wasn't impressed, but then stayed other places that have been far worse..
- Verified traveler (2/5): Fraud. pictures are old . Poor condition - Horrible experience . Rooms very untidy. Bathroom horrible. Unhygienic
- Verified traveler (4/5): Glad we booked one night only. - The dancer in the foyer was a great welcome but it was down hill from then on. Stained bed linen, shower fittings hanging off the wall too badly to use. Although the restaurant staff are very lovely, the level of service and hygiene is terrible. Only reasons to stay are proximity to Taj, Only a few minutes walk, and an excellent view from rooftop restaurant.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very dirty - This hotel was in a good location staff were nice and helpful however the room was really dirty . Hard to clean your teeth looking into the basin looked like no cleaning materials used. The room would have been adequate if cleaned properly.
- Elke (4/5): More of a 1 to 2 star hotel - This hotel is badly in need of refurbishment but it appears that this is under way as the roof with view of Taj Mahal was shut during our stay. Sadly the roof view was the reason we picked this hotel over others. The room was very basic but generally clean. The wall was water damaged on the opposite side from the shower so we did not risk using the electric sockets on that side of the room. The sheets were grey and stained but appeared clean. The beds were comfortable and the Air con and free wifi worked. The TV did not work and there was a pot of what looked like yogurt in the fridge from, presumably, previous occupant. Likewise the bathroom was basic, functional and had been cleaned but very dilapidated. Breakfast in the basement was farcical with one half broken toaster to service the guests, an extremely limited choice of items and a scary dripping aircon unit that caused guests to slip on the puddle beneath it and more worryingly a sure risk or legionnaires disease! As we had prepaid our breakfast we were taken to the hotel next door which was an improvement with a view of the outside world and a buffet with a reasonable selection of items. As we were checking out at 5am I was assured that as I had prepaid there would be eggs, sandwiches and 'everything' waiting for me on the reception counter and the reception 'boy' would be there to check us out. Unsurprisingly the reality was a fast asleep reception boy and no breakfast. Disappointed with whole experience.
- Chandan (10/5): Great value for money - I booked this hotel for its price and location , hotel is very near to the Taj Mahal. People were very welcoming nice and friendly. Helped us in getting Taj Mahal ticket and Tonga Ride.
hotel has two restaurant...basement and rooftop. Rooftop was great.. with great view toward Taj
- Verified traveler (4/5): Our Agra Visit - Wow, it was good experience that make your hotel booking after you go and see the room.
We have make booking via online and it was 100% different then we have seen in online.
-Room was very poor and old did not had hot water in the room.
- Wifi did not work at room.
- Food was just ok.
- They have AC but there AC did not work and we had to use fan.
- We have paid INR- 3800 for the room but it was my mistake did not seen the room.
- BakkD (10/5): All good.. best for location - My experience was good. staffs were very friendly and helpful. they gave us good room.
Taj mahal View from upper restaurant was very attractive,
- Matt (4/5): Dirty hotel with excellent staff - If you're precious about cleanliness don't stay at this hotel. Everything is dirty and both rooms stank - one from damp/mould and one from strong chemicals used to mask the damp/mould. The bathroom was dirty, the bedsheets had oil spots and dirt on them and the roof terrace and dining room all needed a good clean. Shower was cold for the first five minutes. We went up for dinner on the roof and the tables had empty bottles all over them and no one to take orders.
We arrived at 9pm where there was an exhausted child in the lobby to dance for guests. Although this seems to happen in many hotels in Agra.
The positives were that the beds were very comfortable and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. They also organised a car with an excellent and welcoming driver to take us to our next destination. Location is also very good, just a ten minute walk to the Taj.
- Eileen (6/5): near the taj and thats all - very near to the taj mahal. but the condition of the room is not great. lights not working. bathroom is ugly. needs a renovation. not as great as you see in pictures.
- Mel (10/5): Convenient to The Taj Mahal - We could walk to get our tickets for the Taj Mahal and take à tuk tuk to the eastern gate. We had the whole roof top to ourselves and could see the view of the Taj Mahal.
- Greg (6/5): Great position - Hotel location excellent. Front desk staff excellent. Air con excellent. Beds comfortable.Bathroom was clean but needed refurb 10 years ago
- Disappointed (4/5): There must be somewhere better - Roof restaurant not as shown in pictures. Walked up there, just a few unlaid tables around and nothing else. Certainly no restaurant.
Bathroom smelt terrible, really really bad. Room very basic, water bottles in the fridge that wasn't on were not sealed so I wouldn't drink that either.
- Mayank (10/5): Mumtaz- A nice Taj View Hotel - I had booked this hotel for its location and pics on internet. It was really a nice hotel as expected. room was good for the price we paid. Restaurant at the terrace was excellent! worth recommending.
- Raj (10/5): Heritage type hotel - My overall experience was good in Agra and at Mumtaz Hotel. Hotel Looks fine and themed on heritage. room was ok . not much spacious. Terrace restaurant is good and nice view of taj.
- Tim (8/5): Reasonable hotel, close to Taj Mahal - Reasonable hotel for the price. We stayed 3 nights. It was close enough to Taj to be able to walk to the East Gate, but road works meant vehicle access was not possible. This will improve when finished. Fairly quiet location. Staff were good, helping with requests on where to find things in the city. Plenty of transport nearby, tuktuks, taxis, horse buggys and cycle rickshaws.
- Pankaj (10/5): Perfect location to visit taj - Perfect location to visit taj , and viewing it from Rooftop. There is a very nice view of Taj Mahal from Its Rooftop.
bedroom was nice and worth of its price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): NOT GOOD. - DIRTY WASHROOMS. BREAKFAST WAS PATHETIC. EXPENSIVE ROOM CHARGED BUT WITHOUT ANY SERVICE. I WILL NOT USE EXPEDIA AGAIN TO BOOK ROOMS.
- dont stay here (4/5): Over priced and poor service - We are traveling through India and we are staying at many types of hotels and guest houses, this by far has been the worst!
Upon our early arrival we needed early & late check in/out. we were charged 1000 rupees ($20), which in the grand scheme of India is very expensive.
Our room was cold and our sheets very damp. They did bring new sheets, they were no better.
We had no toilet paper, and never did receive the pillows we called down for.
Upon check out they tried to charge us another 1000 rupees for late check out!
There is NO WAY this hotel is worth $60 CAD!!!!!
We had friends that stayed at a hostel for $6 a night that was almost as nice, way better service and a great little restaurant.
I would not recommend this hotel at all!
- Andzelika (2/5): Think twice before booking into this establishment - This hotel is miss selling! I have booked room called ‘Aura Suite (Taj View)’ and one would expect that it will have a Taj Mahal view. Wrong- it’s the restaurant, not the room that has a Taj view. Bedsheets were dirty, stained, and creased - by the time we realized that we already complaint for not having a hot water in the shower. If it wasn’t for late hour I would just leave. The only positive was it was 10 min walk from the Taj Mahal… We were lucky we didn’t get and skin disease from that place. Think twice before booking into this establishment.
- M K (10/5): Hotel near Taj Mahal - Hotel is near Taj Mahal and one can walk to it. Also there is a nice view of TAJ from terrace. people are helping and courteous . accommodation was good too.
- Hazel (10/5): A good hotel near Taaj Mahal - I had a stay very near Taj Mahal. It looked awesome from the rooftop of hotel. People were very nice to us. helped a lot in visiting the Taj Mahal and the city. If we talk about the room, it was just so so.. comfort level was ok but over all it was good as a budget hotel and the price we paid.
- Farisha (8/5): A place to see the Taj 24x7 - Hotel is very near to the Taj Mahal. Taj can be seen very clearly from Rooftop . I liked the hotel for its situation and the price. Room was also nice .had a comfortable sleep. People are very helping they arranged our Camel Ride for very reasonable price.
- Oveira (10/5): Clean room & comfortable Stay - Stayed very close to the Taj Mahal at walking distance . Room has A C , comfortable bed and clean bed sheet & bathroom that is what I expect in budget hotel. Sitting place of rooftop gives a good view of TAJ. Staffs very attentive and friendly.
- Maribel (10/5): Proximity to Taj and great staff - Hotel's Ambiance is very pleasant and modern. Staff working on reception is cool and quick . Helped a lot in providing information and getting the things done in easy and cheap way. It was nice see other foreigners staying in this hotel. May stay was quite comfortable and enjoyable. I will recommend this hotel to my friends and other travelers for nice stay in less expense.
- Ellem (8/5): All ok.. all well . - Location is great. My room was nice, clean and road facing. Ac,Tv all ok. wifi speed is good and free of cost. Seved tasty food.overall it was a great stay at a budget price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pocket friendly Hotel In city of Taj - My experience was great at Aura Mumtaz Mahal, It Beautifully decorated hotel with good facility. Room is basic but bed is comfortable.Best thing about hotel is the view of taj . it is very clear from the top . we enjoyed our stay here. will come again soon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good hotel with Great View of Taj - Hotel is located at very near distance from Taj Mahal. Lobby is shining and decorated nicely. Staff very polite and helping. Room was also good with clean bathroom. The view from the rooftop is Fantastic.
- sandipan (4/5): Terrible stay in Mumtaz - I stayed in the hotel for a night. This hotel looks good from outside. But there is a different story inside. First the phone number listed in expedia did not worked. It gave me a hard time to find the hotel.
I had a deluxe room, which is really small.
The bathroom is terrible. Water gets stored on the bathroom floor and does not pass. The bathroom was dirty. The tv did not work. I asked the staff to renew the tv subscription. They did not, so the night was without tv. The had switched off the lift. It was hard for my mom to climb the stairs. But these morons does not care for their guests. Avoid this hotel if you have options
- Verified traveler (4/5): Find a better place - Had to ask the staff to mop my room, which they did. Don't buy the breafast online for $30. Buy it in the hotel for around 200 rupees I think.
- Mike (4/5): It's near the Taj Mahal. That's it. - Possibly the most clueless staff I have ever encountered. If you need a BASIC room it's fine, but I wouldn't stay there more than 1 night.
- Wolfie (4/5): Rude staff, okay room, great location. - I would say my main problem with this hotel was the staff, particularly in the restaurant. They were very disorganized and very rude. They would frequently produce a bill while I was in the middle of eating and demand that I pay it that instant. They also had this annoying habit of splitting up items that I could sign to my room while insisting that I pay for other items in cash right then in the restaurant. I felt like there were constant communication problems in this respect and that they were very pushy with me for no good reason.
The hotel was also not the cleanest. A monkey got into the hotel and pooped in the corridor outside my room and the staff did not clean up the turd for over a day. The bathroom had a portion of the window missing, which would allow insects in.
The room had no safe, which was annoying. I like having a safe to put my valuables in.
Water was inconsistent, sometimes there was none at all.
- Jonathan (2/5): Never stay in this hotel!! - Terrace not working at all..so no VIEW, super super dirty, staff hedious, dont speak english, WC wasnt working
- Shahzad (2/5): pathetic - eeekkksss. strongly not recommended. I shifted to another hotel for the next night. I had booked for 2 nights here. rooms are not the same u see in the pics. totally a mood off situation.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not very good, but OK compared to what's available - The hotel does not look like the pictures they show. The elevator does not work. Wifi does not work well in the lobby and not at all on the first floor. In order to connect myself to the internet I had to go up to the second floor and stand in the hallway. The room was OK but the bathroom was below my expectations. Having said that, there are not much better offers in Agra. Unless you want to go for a 5 star hotel/resort.
- Angelika (8/5): small but nice and calm environement - very nice stay - they had nice place for restaurant at roof - very romantic. Clean rooms and good service. Our aircondition did not work for night, they imediately give us other room to sleep. Rooms are very small - little old but ok for use. Price is ok. Not much noise from traffic arround. So if like silent place it is good. Taj Mahal is not too much near but can reach easy with auto riksha or even can walk .
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible - no internet, small room, no landline , room at 4th floor no working lift
- bauau (10/5): Nice stay and good view of the Taj - The rooftop dining is fabulous. Wonderful staff. Room was clean and a/c was 100%.
Great value!
- She (4/5): If desperate - We stayed at this hotel, wifi did not work, on any level. Food was second rate and not as in the menu. Service was below average.
- Col (6/5): - Great location in Agra. Staff were very helpful. Hot water, even running water was minimal. For a single night it was good
- Ram (6/5): - Hot water is only on between 6-10 morning and night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to eastern gate of Taj - You can see Taj from terrace as advertised. Breakfast was good. Could not get hot water and management said boiler was broken. Other then that it is good for your money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Walk to Taj Mahal - Good Comfortable Hotel. Food in restaurant was Excellent! Staff were great. I'd stay there again and that's a good indicator for me.
- Margaret (6/5): OK stay for a couple nights - The staff was extremely nice and helpful. I would give the staff 5 stars but the rest of the hotel 3. The room was very average, windows do not open so the room was a little stinky. The rooftop restaurant and view of the Taj Mahal were great. The location is great as well as it is walking distance to the Taj Mahal.
