Lovely social lounge for canapés before dinner and drinks and conversation after. Top quality dining and service. Very comfortable bedroom. Nothing
- Mark & Karen (10/5): A wonderful experience at a quenticential British country house in the beautiful Lake District. - It was a beautiful country house that is run by the owners, who obviously pour a lot of love into the hotel and guests. The location was amazing and close to so many hikes.
The meals that were served were delicious and a lovely experience.

The food was exceptional. Delicious and very well presented. Enjoyed the formality of canapés in the lounge before dinner. Our host Gary made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Nothing requires improvement. We were very happy with everything.

We would love to stay longer if we could and try all the dining menus! Nothing
- Sarfraz (10/5): Exceptional service and very hospitable. Food was a culinary delight. - Immaculately presented. High standard of fit-out, furnishing and decoration. Spotless throughout. Grounds well managed. Ideal location. Nothing not to like.
- Judith (10/5): Set in spectacular scenery a lovely hotel with fantastic food. - Our second stay in this small but perfect Country House Hotel set in a beautiful quiet part of the Lakes. Lovely staff, fantastic food, all needs catered for. There is nothing to not like about this hotel.
- Katarzyna (10/5): Staff took really good care of us. The food in restaurant was amazing! - Amazing location, very comfortable room. Staff was very nice and helpful.
- Liza (10/5): -
- Janet (10/5): Fantastic. - Hazel Bank is set in the most beautiful peaceful location. Nature and wildlife all around. We had house martins nesting outside our window. Saw woodpeckers on the bird feeders and spotted a red squirrel too. The hotel is tastefully, traditionally decorated and furnished. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The food was amazing! We ate twice at the hotel. The meals were delicious and the four courses very filling. Graham and his team were excellent in their service. Minor detail…. Lots of house-Martin’s poo on the windowsill. But they were nesting right above and honestly they were a joy to watch.
- Stever (10/5): Genuine 5-star experience - Genuinely 5-star experience. Couldn't fault it. All excellent.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was wonderful Room was a bit hot but that’s all. Everything else perfect.

Lovely location, comfortable rooms and exceptional service. The real highlight was the quality and presentation of the food - exceptional! Nothing not to like ;-)
- Helen (10/5): Lovely few nights in this beautiful hotel, perfect base for us to explore local walks, room was lovely and very clean. H - Beautiful location
Very friendly and welcoming owners Nothing was perfect for us
Perhaps a little remote for some
- Wayne (10/5): Beautiful, warm and friendly. - Lovely place in a beautiful location. Gary and Donna were very attentive. The breakfast was lovely but the meal on Saturday night was exceptional! - Johnathan (10/5): Fairness from start to finish - Everything. The hosts (Gary & Donna) were exceptional, the location was perfect and the property was perfect.
- Judith (10/5): This hotel deserves all the awards it has been given it’s a lovely place to stay. - This is a small family run, well appointed, delightful Country House Hotel in every sense of the word. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a very modern bathroom and a good shower. The attention to detail to make your stay enjoyable is exceptional the staff are lovely. I enjoyed joining the other guests in the evening in the lounge for a glass of wine and canapés followed by great food and a really good wine list. The staff were very attentive to my husband’s dietary needs as he is a Coeliac, a complete English breakfast with GF sausages and black pudding a real treat for him.
The hotel is very well situated in a beautiful part of the Lakes ideal for whatever kind of walking you may wish to do and Keswick is just up the road if the weather becomes inclement or you could just sit and watch the red squirrels. Nothing
- Jeff (10/5): Wow - Amazing place...beautiful location...delicious food..... welcoming host. Nothing to dislike, fabulous place.
- Gyorgyi (9/5): Perfect - Everything, especially the squirrels
- William (10/5): Relaxing and enjoyable -
- Steve (8/5): A magical place in a magical place. - Everything except the bed and internet. The internet was very spotty but you're you don't go to The Lakes for the internet. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the linen was far too heavy for the summer months. A light quilt or sheet would have been more than sufficient. The spotty internet didn't bother me. I just mention it for those who need it. The bed didn't stop me from having a wonderful stay and other's might have found it comfortable. Again, just my observations.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Quite excellent. Red Squirrel cabaret was a bonus.
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): First class - a cut above the other hotels in the region. - Ideal location to walk out from the door. The rooms and public areas are pristine. Excellent food and wines, but the winning formula is both the owners and their knowledgeable staff - first rate service, with huge smiles all round! Great stay.
- Gareth (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandra (8/5): Very good - lovely mountains.
- Tyron (10/5): Amazing hospitality, beautiful scenic routes and one special place. - Garry and the team were unbelievable , They really made us feel very welcome and right at home.
- Bernadette (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location, friendly staff, beautiful room and delicious food. Perfect Easter weekend away, thank you.
- Rachel (8/5): Very good -
- Dave (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): This place is an experience not just another BnB. - The location is amazing. It is very calm and serene in a small little village. there are many beautiful trails right out of your doorstep. We could not find anything we didn’t like about this property .
- Heather (8/5): Very relaxing - Breakfast was delicious. Location of the hotel was only 10 minutes from Keswick. The grounds of hotel were incredible. Fabulous scenery.
- Judy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional - Booked this on behalf of parents for my Mums birthday. They had a really lovely and special stay here. Everything was amazing, they’d definitely stay again and recommend to anyone. The service, food and atmosphere was exceptional.
- Sonya (9/5): Wonderful weekend stay - Friendly and accommodating welcoming staff. Felt looked after. Nothing too much trouble. Loved the hime made biscuits, decanter of sherry. Stunning views of mountains. Within easy distance to keswi k. Derwent water so tranquil. Lovely stay for 2 nights. Nothing didn't like
- Patrick (9/5): Classic country house worth the trip - A superb house in beautiful grounds. The terrace is great for a rest, enjoying tea. if the weather is inclement the residents' lounge is perfect : tastefully furnished and with large windows overlooking he lawn. Our hosts were very welcoming and ready to help with anything needed. Diner (optional) was really excellent. We had planned initially to dine onsite only once, but ended up dining at the House every evening. the House is located in a very peaceful valley epitomizing the charm of the lake district. Note that this comes at the cost of a lack of cell phone reception however. I would definitely go back to Hazel Bank Country House for any new trip to the Lake district. However I would select a different room . The Helvellyn room in which we were was really too small. I would have rated the property a 10 however the description of the room in Booking was not and is still not correct (Superior Double Room with Garden View). it is indicated as having a 30m2 size it must be at best 18- 20m2. If booking a room check directly with Hazel bank the dimension of the room.
- Brian (10/5): Excellent and recommended unreservadly. - The reception upon arrival,(early) was extremely friendly and welcoming. We were immediately shown to our room although it was before the check-in time. We were then provided with tea and biscuits. Throughout our stay we were treated with friendliness and good humour. Gary was most amusing and nothing could be too much trouble particularly at meal times since he was in charge of that aspect of our stay. The quality of the food was excellent. A perfect location and stay. Nothing
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqui (10/5): Wonderful hospitality in the beautiful Borrowdale valley - Beautiful location, comfortable accommodation, wonderful food, friendly service all made for superb hospitality. Nothing
- June (10/5): Brilliant -
- Alan (10/5): Excellent food, great location, comfortable rooms and welcoming hosts. -
