Guest Reviews
- Lawrence (10/5): - We were very pleasantly surprised with the room and the overall facility. The breakfast were really great. The staff was quite helpful. The bathroom was fun and stylish and the bedroom was large enough. We were amazed at how well the closed windows shut out and street noise. One thing for future travelers to know is that, true to its name, the property is on the first floor up from street level. There is a fairly narrow circular stairway one needs to navigate to get to the property on the first floor. We are older and it was a little challenging but nothing that was us to give the property for review. We’d really enjoyed it and we’ll go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to everything. - Convenient and close to everything.
- CHAEWAN (6/5): 계단이 접근하기 어렵다. - 일반적인 시설은 문제가 없는데 계단이 접근하기 어렵습니다.
- Mark (8/5): - Want little hotel with attentive staff in a great location.
- P. (10/5): - Small, quiet place to stay in the Marais. Easy coming and going with door codes. Nice breakfast. Pleasant staff.
- Wan Heng (10/5): - Wonderful and helpful staff. Yummy breakfast and best of all really convenient location.
- Rachel (10/5): - this is, as many say, a little gem. each room is decorated carefully, the bedding, bed, and bathroom are all comfortable and well tought out. coffee, tea and cookies are available 24/7 and an ample breakfast is included in the price, served in the sitting area.
there is often no one at the reception desk, which can feel odd, but you can leave your luggage early and it will magically appear in your room when you come back. the location is great and the staff is kind.
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely little hotel - Such a lovely place to stay in a great location. The room was a good size and beautifully decorated with lots of little extra touches included. The shower was also really good. Breakfast was included although I just had a drink which they allowed me to take to my room. It’s not your usual hotel but for me that didn’t matter, the receptionist was really friendly and was there in the morning for check out so I could leave my bag. The check in instructions were really clear and I thought it was easy to find. The corridor off the Main Street is dark but there is a light switch as soon as you walk in. Would definitely stay here again
- stephen (10/5): Hidden gem - ABsolutely wonderful place in a great neighborhood. Super quiet in the room with no outside noise and the breakfasts were excellent.
Fantastic location and the owners and staff were wonderful hosts and so helpful and did not even laugh at my terrible French!
Book this place and you won't be disappointed!
- Ranald (10/5): - Charming room, friendly staff, outstanding location— plus a great selection of tea in the kitchen.
- A terrific small hotel consisting of a few rooms on the first floor of a traditional old Marais building. Beautiful room design, comfortable beds, quiet, tea and coffee available in the longue and kitchenette.
Staff attend only in the morning, they provide a delightful continental breakfast and chat to guests about their plans for the day. I liked the contact time and otherwise didnt mind that desk was unattended.
I'd stay here again without hesitating.
- Katrine (10/5): Perfect location - Perfect location. Cozy hotel. Our room was nice and clean
- marc (10/5): - Very charming place and the room was well curated for a unique living experience — really felt like a home. Would be thrilled to have another stay here!!
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Comfortable charming rooms in an apartment with a delicious breakfast and lovely staff. Very well organised. Recommended.
- Georgette (10/5): - Beautiful accommodations and great communication from the host regarding check in instructions. It was like being at a home away from home.
The location is superb..you’re in the heart of the beautiful city of Paris.
- Shwan (10/5): - Excellent prime location in the middle of bussly Marais. The room was quite a good size for paris The host was amazing and helpful, the breakfast was good, the bed was comfortable. Will visit again
- Donna (10/5): - Quiet and cozy in the heart of the fantastic Marais district.
- Patrick (10/5): - Quiet
- Marylene (10/5): Nickel - Tout était parfait , confort , petit déjeuner, proximité métro !
- Justin (10/5): - It was a great room and the service was great. But it’s hard to find as not really labelled well on the street. The entrance corridor is a residential entrance and hard to carry up bigger bags up the spiral stair case.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Sehr schöne Unterkunft mit freundlichen Mitarbeitern
- May Fong (10/5): - Location is easily accessible to major landmarks with wide selection of restaurant choices. The room is cozy and warm just the street view is missing.
- Liz (10/5): - A great place to stay. The accommodation is very comfortable, the location is great and the staff are lovely and very helpful.
- Richard (10/5): Excellent location in Les Marais - Excellent location with everything nearby. More of an apartment than a hotel. Room was very comfortable.
The only issue is the stairs were small and rooms are on the second floor which is typically called first floor. (typical of big cities in Europe so be prepared). Breakfast was excellent. Overall excellent!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good experience, great management, old building - Clean room, excellent communication to make for a smooth check in experience. Top notch location convenient to restaurants and the metro. Breakfast was very good (almost too much food). Room itself was well cared for but the building is old and it does show its age a bit. Lastly, there was a strange sewage odor that kept appearing and then disappearing just outside our room as well as inside. We slept with the window cracked to manage it.
- Ryan James (10/5): - Excellent stay and staff was very friendly! Super safe!
- Florentine (10/5): - If I was a frequent traveler to Paris, I’d keep this little jewel to myself. Excellent location but also very quiet, which is hard to find in Paris. The experience is more B&B than hotel with the lovely breakfast service. Shops and restaurants everywhere. Our room was so cute and spacious. Would definitely stay here again if given the opportunity to return!
- Ahmed (10/5): - The location was amazing and the option for the breakfast was a great addition. The hosts were very gracious and helpful.
- Stephen (10/5): - Perfect place to stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place in the middle of 4th Arr( Restaurant and shopping area)
Nice staff, good breakfast,good service.
To be recommended
- Sabine (10/5): - Freundlich, aufmerksam.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Incredible customer service, impeccably clean, beautiful space, ideal location
- Limor (10/5): - magnificent!
We enjoyed our vacation at the hotel. Perfect location, wonderful atmosphere, large room, well designed and cozy.
Highly recommended. Would love to stay at the hotel again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing location, amazing property, amazing staff. So well done, all around.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms were clean/nice and service was great (cleaning lady and breakfast) but not having anyone to talk to when you arrive and when you leave was little odd to me. I liked the place but I don’t think that i will try this concept again. Thank you though.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Why? - Hotels.com should look at this facility as a bed and breakfast. It has five rooms up a 21 step circular stairway. The next door busy hair salon was not aware that there was a Hotel next door. The breakfast was good and the door codes challenging.
- John (10/5): Great stsy - Highly recommend. My goto place in Paris
- Elizabeth (10/5): Adorable Apartment Style Feel - This hotel was adorable and perfect! We loved the apartment style feel of this hotel and appreciated the delicious breakfast served to us each morning and the free water we were able to take when needed. The bed was very comfortable for my tall husband and me and the bathroom was very spacious too. Rooms were modern and welcoming and there was even a welcome gift waiting for us in the room when we arrived! The neighborhood was so cute, and the large windows are beautiful but keep out the noise from the streets below which was very appreciated. We were very grateful that there was air conditioning, and loved everything about this hotel! Hotel staff was detailed with their emails on how to enter the building. Just be careful on the spiral staircase up!
- Carolyn (10/5): Perfect stay - Highly recommend- everything you need for a great stay in Paris!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden gem in Le Marais ! - Hidden gem located in le Marais. Excellent service and very friendly staff. Clean and beautifully decorated. Amazing.
- Sarah (10/5): Wonderful Stay - We loved our stay. Everything was beautiful and the service was lovely. It is a perfect location. The only downside is that the entryway can get dark and I fell coming down the stairs with my luggage when we went to leave. Lovely place. Would stay here again.
- robabha (8/5): - Everything was as great as expected, but lack of elevator created real discomfort for us who had heavy luggage. We were not advised about lack of elevator during reservation process, something you might want to do for your guests. Other than that, all perfect.
- Stephen (10/5): - Super central, very friendly, clean and a great breakfast
- Tamir (10/5): Very nice hotel - Location amazing, especially for gay couples, but also for all tourists for visiting marais, ils de la cite etc.
Small hotel,Quit, nice design, nice breakfast. The shower and sink are open to the room.
Would come back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Just right for my wife and I, perfect size room, comfy bed, and great location just a few minutes walk from Hotel de Ville metro. Nice breakfast each morning and the small size made it easy to get to know our fellow travelers. Loved the entry code system as well, would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great pied a terre in the Marais! - Nicely renovated room, smallish but comfortable, wonderful friendly service from the owner and staff, and of course right in the middle of the Marais!
- Michalis Simos (10/5): Weekend with friends "A' Paris" - This small boutique hotel is on the first floor of an old building steps away from Pompidou Center. The building is old and dated but once you enter the hotel door it's a modern, warm space. The room was really nice with all needed amenidies and spacious. The staff were very friendly and willing to assist. Bfast was nice, with fresh fruit salad, basket of pastries and bread, a cold platter, jam and coffee on tap.
- Mandy (10/5): - Lovely little place that is a mix between a hotel and an bed and breakfast. The provided breakfast was very nice. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It is in a great central location in Marais in a nice neighborhood. Close to many shops and cafes. Very cute decore and updated bathroom. My only complaint was a very hard bed but that seems to be the norm in Europe. Would stay again and recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This is not a hotel but more like a Bed and Breakfast. It is only 5-6 rooms and not staffed but in the morning. Be prepared to enter from the email they send you with codes. I did not catch email and when e arrived, nobody was there and we could not get in. OK Neighborhood but on a side street.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location to art, nightlife, shopping and much more.
- John (10/5): Luxury in Le Marais very affordable! - Our stay at 1er Etage Le Marais exceeded our highest expectations. We were in a fantastic location, alive in activity with many shops and restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood. Access to the Metro and RER trains was 5-8 minutes walking. The owners were very helpful with suggestions. Our room had everything we needed, and a surprise was the smart tv with Netflix access. We had an excellent breakfast each morning, with fresh fruit, yogurt, various breads and croissants, meats and cheese, orange juice and espresso. We loved it and will definitely return!
- ian (6/5): - The property was great, the breakfast was really nice and the staff were really nice but getting in was a nightmare. What they don't tell you when they book it is that the place is an apartment on the 2nd floor above a barber shop or something and there is no signage for the hotel at all. You need to get through two doors with a security access code and they don't try to send you the codes until the last second so if you don't have internet or phone coverage on the morning of your stay, you can't get in.
- Pete (8/5): - The good: great location, very clean and well-decorated but small room like most places in Paris, new facility as it’s only 5 years old. It’s basically an apartment with 6 or 7 rooms converted to a hotel. A small breakfast was served in living room every morning . The woman who served breakfast on the weekend was more friendly than the one during the week who did it with no facial expression.
The bad: towels are new everyday but some were soiled with old stains. Bed sheets are changed every second day so if it’s dirty, you’re out of luck. They don’t put this info in the hotel details. TV channels are all in French.
Paris, of course, is amazing except for too many smokers.
- D (10/5): - Best location for walking and dining. Charming retro decor and yummy breakfast. Be prepared to carry luggage up a flight to common area. Rooms are new and fresh. Staff are charming and helpful with taxi etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Superb location in the heart of the Marais - Easy access to metro, major museums and great for walking in the Marais. Breaths delicious and fresh, and the tea and coffee service in the public space is also excellent. Rooms are comfortable and quiet.!
- Christopher (8/5): Great hotel although unmanned most of the time - Fantastic Hotel in a great location. Very nice breakfast and staff were very accommodating.
Only problem was when we arrived there was someone else's luggage in our room and the safe was locked so we could not leave the room until one of the management arrived.
- Greg (10/5): Paris for a day - Amazing find. Unique stay in a great area.
- Diana (10/5): Excellent stay, close to shopping & dining - Want to live like a Parisian & be close to shopping, dining, & transportation?....Stay here! Owners Juliette & Serge and housekeeper, Geraldine very hospitable and helpful. Before our arrival questions were answered promptly over email and they also have a cool app to give you everything you need for a stress free stay. Breakfast was very filing and nicely prepared. Quite, thoroughly clean & very modern accommodations that felt like home. Highly recommend.
- Behrouze (10/5): - Great hotel with very friendly staff. The best location in Le Marias.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Reserved for four days. Stayed one. - Not a place for older people. Circular staircase and four doors to be dealt with by passcodes were very unappealing for us. Two steps to bathroom from bedroom were dangerous.
- daniel (10/5): - Great place
- Dawn (8/5): Nice place, quiet - The hotel is nice. Minimal interaction with staff. I would like to see more availability with receptionist.
There is a gay bar right across the street. It wasn't a problem, but I wold have liked to know that prior.
- Zoltan (10/5): good choice in Marais - superb stay.
Modern room, good breakfast, close to everything.
- Bensage (10/5): Great for independent travelers - The hotel is more like a B&B without the owner present. Great location. Rooms were very quiet and clean. Just don't expect any real interaction with any staff. You get a key code to let yourself in. You may never actually see staff if you leave early in the AM. There was a sort of virtual concierge through the hotels "app". We never really figured this out. Breakfast was superb. Kitchen open 24/7 and stocked with goodies. Highly recommended for travelers who just need a clean quite room.
- Heather (10/5): - Absolutely loved this place! Convenient location, clean, comfortable, and amazing staff and owners. I would definitely stay there again!
- Shawn (10/5): Comfortable and friendly - This is not a traditional hotel, it is a small bed and breakfast, with a shared seating area used for breakfast and a kitchenette. The room was calming and comfortable. A full shower, but no bath. There is a small step leading to the water closet, which was sometimes a challenge in the middle of the night. The building has been renovated, but is very old since it's in the original part of Paris. There are 2 codes to remember to access the building and the B&B unit. You will be emailed with this info before you arrive, so there may not be anyone there to greet you. As is common in older buildings throughout Europe, there are about 15+ stairs to climb, which may be difficult for some visitors, especially with heavy luggage. Nevertheless, the stay we had was great. The area is known for nightlife, which can be noisy, but is easily shut down by closing the double paned windows. The breakfast: (bread, rolls, croissant) jam, fruit, yogurt, sliced ham, turkey, cheese, juice, coffee/tea... was very filling and tasty and we looked forward to it every morning.
- Christophe (10/5): Classy little hotel in middle of bustling Marais - Great 5 room hotel/b&b hybrid, friendly reception who are happy to speak English, good little French breakfast and double security locks make this a nice alternative to traditional hotels.
- edwina (10/5): Nice hotel close to most sites - Really like the room and the breakfast was great! The room is very comfortable and nice. One thing to note for people travelling with a friend instead of with partner. The shower area does not have curtain so it's very open space. You can see clearly the person in shower from the bed.
- Peter (10/5): Quiet & peaceful accommodation - Every detail has been thoughtfully considered at 1er Etage the keypad entry system worked well and Serge & Juliette were on hand every morning with advice or tips to make your stay perfect. The quality of bedding, towels etc was superb in this quiet central hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Highly recommend! - We had an amazing stay! With a cute living room and kitchen across from your room, you truly feel like you have your own apartment. The hotel was extremely clean and Juliette had everything down to the last detail. She is there in the mornings to give you food and drink recommendations and made all our dinner reservations.
Only only drawback is that the wifi connection is not great, otherwise 5 stars all around. I would most definitely return!
It is in the heart of Marais, which in my opinion is the cutest and best part of town to stay. Tons of cafes/restaurants/bars close by.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent boutique stay in Marais - Great hotel, great location, great breakfast. Only 5 rooms, so book fast!
- KJ (10/5): Very lovely accommodation in a fantastic location. - We stayed for two nights when we first arrived in Paris. It was everything we hoped for. Lovely rooms with nice decor, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Even smart TV! The breakfast (included) was a very nice start to our days before venturing out. The people were delightful and helpful. We would love to stay again!
- Lincoln (10/5): My new home in Paris. - The hotel owner/staff were very nice and helpful. Everything was just great, really. Ma nouvelle maison.
- Julie (10/5): Great little hotel in a wonderful location - We stayed for three days during a recent trip to Paris. The hotel was delightful and the staff was great.
- Xavier (10/5): Beautiful Paris. - This is our fourth trip to Paris, and it was the most enjoyable and entertaining. Our stay at 1er Etage, was by far the most comfortable hotel experience in Paris. The deluxe room we had was spacious, modern, with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. The location is in one of the most exciting and vibrant neighborhoods. The owners (Juliette & Serge)were gracious and eager to provide us with info and directions to important locations.
- dJ (10/5): Wonderful home away from home - Clean, comfortable, quiet and relaxing apartment hotel well located for the Marais and for central Paris.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A home away from home in the heart of Paris -
We enjoyed the intimate setting, the ability to lounge in the living room, to enjoy tea, coffee, water and little treats while chatting with other guests or the charming hosts. Internet connection was free but a bit temperamental.
The room, though with very limited storage, was comfortable and thoughtfully arranged.
Access to local restaurants, shopping and public transportation is excellent.
We will return for our next stay.
- Ida (10/5): Lovely hotel right in the heart - Lovely hotel, lovely staff, perfect area. Will absolutely be returning.
The room itself was very quiet and the bed was super comfortable.
Ideal if you want to walk through the quaint Parisian streets and go to unique bars and restaurants.
- dianne (10/5): Small, tucked away hotel - Worth the effort of finding. Once you have ascended the winding staircase and negotiated all the keypads, this little hotel is very cozy, comfortable and clean. Best of all is owner Juliette whose advise in all things Parisian is invaluable.
- Leslie Maher (10/5): home away from home with Paris at your door step! - This was a very comfortable and beautifully decorated with personal touches by the owner Juliiette. Communal kitchen amenities and living room available to all guests that gave you that extra space and cup of coffee when you felt like it. Quiet room and privacy respected. Great location with fabulous cafes, bars and metro at your doorstep. This was a great stay.
