- Stephen (9/5): Lovely location, very comfortable room. Would definitely recommend. - The buffet breakfast provided a great selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. The location was lovely and quiet with a good pub within a few steps from the apartment. The staff were very friendly and we plan to stay again next time we travel up north. Nothing

- Stephen (10/5): Very comfortable place to stay, we would definitely stay here again. - The location was lovely and quiet. The apartment was very comfortable and the facilities were all that we required. The continental breakfast was plentiful and more than we could manage to eat. There was an excellent pub across the courtyard serving good ales and excellent food. Nothing.
- Rubin (10/5): Charming Inn in great walking country - Charming and spacious room
Generous continental breakfast DIY style to suit most tastes We wish we'd chosen a different day to visit so we could have sampled the food when the kitchen was operating...our mistake, not theirs
- anthony (7/5): - BREAKFAST
- Adam (8/5): Quaint and quiet - Staff were amazing
Food and drink choice was great
Very quaint and unexpected room, extremely quiet with good surrounding views and great location I can't say that I didn't like it, just a couple of little points.
1. Somebody had left 'a present ' in this downstairs toilet which smelt like it had been there for a day or two, which wasn't a nice start
2. The mattresses could do with a replacement, they're pretty hard and quite noisy,
- Joanne (9/5): - Staff were fabulous
Great pub and pub food Continental breakfast in the room

2. We’ve stayed here a couple of times and it never disappoints. Comfortable rooms - very private. The bar and restaurant are excellent and the service is friendly and efficient.
- Jen (10/5): A wonderful place that’s I’d love to come back to - Staff were so hospitable and lovely, room was amazing, and food was incredible. Just loved so many things about it ❤️❤️ The light up numbers on the heater were annoying as you couldn’t turn it off and it lit up the whole room, and the main room light wasn’t worth turning on which made the room quite dark, which is tricky when you need light.
- Richard (9/5): Very good - Very good on both accounts The pub shut at 8 , is all the plugs in an extended lead ok the kettle not safe 🤔
- Ruth (9/5): This was an excellent place to stay, we couldn't fault anything. - The room was very comfortable.
- Calvin (9/5): Nice quiet stay in a very comfortable room, that had a beautiful clean bathroom. - Nice continental Breakfast with lots of choice. There was nothing we didn't like about the place.
- Carole (7/5): Very comfortable. - Welcome was very friendly. Room was much larger than expected with excellent facilities. Continental breakfast in the room was substantial with all the facilities needed to make toast, tea etc.
- Malcolm (9/5): -
- Lee (10/5): Absolutely superb and would highly recommend. - Breakfast and location was perfect. Absolutely nothing probably one of the best accommodations I've stayed in.
- Marjory (10/5): Fabulous warm and friendly pub with great food! - Everything. The warm friendly welcome, convenient onsite parking, our room, breakfast and dinner in the pub - all fantastic! Nothing
- Holly (10/5): - We couldn't fault this place. Absolutely beautiful suite, clean and very comfortable. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
- robin (8/5): Very comfortable and enjoyable stay . - It was comfortable and very friendly . Food was also Excellent . Bathroom was small but realise only have so much space . Also had to turn heater off at night because display light was to bright . Do like a dark bedroom .
- Nicky (10/5): Beautiful stay with amazing staff - The team were so friendly and beyond helpful when we had transport issues. Honestly can't thank them enough.
Rooms were beautiful and breakfast was really cute.
We are looking to come back again at some point hopefully so we can try a meal in the pub
- Richard (10/5): Warm comfy room with delicious food from the adjoining pub. - Lovely stay in barn conversion great safe parking, really excellent food and good hosts. Nothing
- Charlotte (10/5): Brilliant - Lovely stay great food and fantastic staff
- Steven (8/5): -
- Johnny Breslin (9/5): - Room very cosy and clean. Fridge going through the motions through the night.
- Carolina (9/5): -
- Nodzed (6/5): - Comfy room, very quiet and nice and warm. Its a nice location. Breakfast was not good, cold selection put in your room, I didn't realise this on booking and pretty sure this wasn't made clear by Booking.com.
The establishment hadn't received payment from Booking.com for the room even though the room had been paid for 8 days earlier by us to Booking.com and this had to be proved by showing bank records via our mobile app. This wasn't our fault or to be honest our problem. Though it took some sorting out with the insistence for us to forward emails referencing the booking etc. This was done in the bar in front of other guests with us having to prove we had paid. In the first instance Booking.com should have been contacted rather than us being questioned after giving evidence of payment in a public area. This wasn't a very nice situation and wasn't very professional or courteous.
- Carsten (10/5): Tolle Unterkunft - gerne sofort wieder... - Fantastischer Aufenthalt in einem neu renovierten Zimmer. Das Bad sieht man so in England fast nie - mindestens 4 Sterne Niveau. Super ruhig und ein schönes Restaurant anbei - alles was das Herz begehrt...:o)
- Carolyn (9/5): Perfect location for a short break - Delightful village location There was an event so quite noisey until 11pm
- Francis (7/5): - Excellent meal.Friendly staff. Breakfast could be better. -Adequate but limited.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Susan (9/5): Loved the room and lovely facilities as long as you bring your own food. - Superb village location. Excellent for walkers. I liked the addition of a toaster and proper ground coffee in the room. Sunday not a good day for getting evening food. Restaurant stops serving at 4 and local shops mostly closed.
- Frédéric (9/5): Logement rustique à la campagne. Vaux le detour - Chambre rustique mais bien équipée. Déjeuner continental copieux. Possibilité de se restaurer au pub voisin. Repas copieux et varié
- John (8/5): Comfortable - Comfortable room with a brilliant shower. Very small wardrobe, the 2nd wardrobe stored cleaning stuff, and the drawers too small for anything much. Had to keep most in the suitcase.
Toaster kept setting off smoke alarms.
Could do with a couple more electric sockets, hard to charge phones etc.
- Richard (10/5): Perfect and helped to make our weekend at a family wedding extremely enjoyable - Rooms were very spacious and clean. The shower room was immaculate and the shower superb with a great flow rate. Beds very comfortable with ample cushions pillows provided. The breakfast provided in the room of fresh fruit cereals bread etc was ideal for us as we were out early in the morning. The food in the pub again was very good and ample portions. The wines and ales were very good. On top of this the staff were superb. I highly recommend this establishment. And thank you for a very pleasant stay. Nothing it was great.
- colin (10/5): Great place for a one or two night stopover - Very cosy and quiet, great food in the restaurant and good stock of wine and beer, shame the Timothy Taylor had run out though. Nothing comes to mind
- Anthony (9/5): Perfect stay - would highly recommend - We were in the Deluxe King Suite which was on two levels - a large bathroom with bath downstairs, and a nice big bed, breakfast area with fridge and smaller bathroom upstairs. Breakfast was continental and left for you in the room. Communication with the owners was excellent, both before and during our stay. A very comfortable stay and would highly recommend. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
- Philip (7/5): What an interesting and unique village Laxton is. - Position in an interesting village. Fabulous food, good continental breakfast. Rooms could do with some tlc
- Nicole (9/5): -
- Ron (10/5): Charming traditional Inn, excellent quality restaurant and characterful barn conversion accomodation - We loved the Dovecott Inn! We travelled 5 hours from Somerset to see our horse run at Southwell. We stopped off first to book in and received a warm welcome. It is situated in an attractive rural village with several working farms. The Inn is a delightful traditional pub with excellent value wines and beers, plus special cocktails for the more adventurous. A truly relaxing pub with a great ambiance, like a friendly hug!
The food is especially delicious, we had salt and pepper calamari followed by grilled chicken skewers, very tasty. The menu is extensive and should suit all tastes. The dining room was popular so probably a good idea to book a table. The wines were excellent quality and good value by the glass.
Our room in the adjacent barn conversion was spacious and very well appointed with an excellent shower, toiletries, TV, Wi-Fi, and excellent continental breakfast in the room which included breakfast cereals, pain au chocolat, home made sausage delight, rolls, and chef's berry fruit yoghurt in the fridge along with fresh milk and bottlrd water.
Worth a trip to this highly recommended super Inn. Plenty of parking available. Everything was excellent, we'll be back.
- Laura (7/5): Fantastic location. Staff were helpful, very friendly amd extremely polite. - The accommodation was very good and the breakfast was lovely and more than we expected in comparison to other hotels we have stayed in. The door to the accommodation was temperamental to lock.
- Ian (9/5): Historic village pub experience - Lovely village pub in a historic 'open field system' village. Great New owners, good evening geal and adequate continental breakfast in the room. 0
- robert (10/5): Excellent barn conversion stay over. - Excellent food good beer although a bit pricey at £5.90 a pint for Taylor's landlord. Food well priced.
Good area to visit and secure motorbike parking.
I also liked the continental breakfast layed out in your room, don't let that put you off it's excellent. All good thanks.
- Ian (7/5): Brief - Early exit was not an issue as breakfast was in the room available from the night before departure No issues identified
- Kerry (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay and would go back - We loved the pub food, room was really comfortable, breakfast was also good
- Claire (9/5): A quiet tucked away place with friendly hosts - We had never stayed here before, but it was the perfect location to explore Sherwood Forest. A small place with good food and friendly hosts. We were happy with the breakfast which we were told in advance would be taken in our room. All fresh ingredients. Everything was comfortable. The only downside would be that there was not as much light, as quite small windows, but this was an older property to be fair. Nothing
- Neil (8/5): Lovely cosy rooms in a beautiful village, but…. - Lovely cosy rooms in the perfect location to explore the village. Upstairs, just above the info centre! Very clean and tidy. Breakfast is continental (ie sitting in room when you arrive)…not for those who enjoy a great English pub breakfast! Pillows a bit thin. And be aware that no food is served on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday evenings. Not ideal.
- Mark (10/5): -
- Charlie (1/5): Bad -
- Michael (5/5): Passable - Friendly general manager comfortable bed
Lovely orange juice Continental breakfast was a bit disappointing the bread which came with breakfast wasn’t fresh no yogurt
And noisy fridge in room
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful location, and absolutely amazing food
- Stephen (10/5): A delightful stay at Dovestays - Jess and her team were very passionate about providing the best possible experience for their visitors. We were made to feel very welcome. The historic nature of the Laxton village was fascinating and Jess helped us discover the background to unique traditional "Open Field" faming in the area. There was a good selection of options in the provided continental breakfast, and we also enjoyed a tasty dinner in Inn's dining room. All good. Nothing that comes to mind.
- Len (1/5): If we hadn't pre-paid, we wouldn't have stayed! - Very little. We have stayed in over a hundred hotels, pubs and bed and breakfasts in this country booked through Booking.com and this is the most disappointing. We booked bed and breakfast but were told on arrival that "We don't do breakfast here. There's a table in your room". The description on Booking.com says "Very good breakfast included". A few boxes of cereal on the table. See photos. We had a fridge in the room which rattled for ten minutes every half hour, enough to wake me, and contained half a bottle of milk, some juice, yoghurts and water. See photos. The electrical installation was, shall we say, questionable. See photos. A warning at the bottom of the stairs about low headroom at the door would be another safety idea. See photos.
If this is a "Deluxe King Room" rated 8.9 on Booking.com and "Fabulous", there is something seriously wrong with the way reviews are produced. The fact that apparently the pub is under new ownership is not an excuse as the facilities are obviously unchanged. The offer of "a free drink" was little compensation, I'm afraid. If we hadn't pre-booked, we certainly would not have stayed! Poor value for money doesn't cover it.
(We note that the website has now been updated since we booked in June to explain the 'breakfast' arrangements, too late for our booking and stay, probably following our comments.)
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Justine (7/5): Good -
- Paul (8/5): Excellent - Lovely room, huge bathroom.
Friendly staff The accommodation is excellent. The food was ok, if I’m being really honest the steak was good but the chips are a bit greasy
- Neil (8/5): Great location and great place for dinner - Great location and room was lovely. We ate dinner in the pub which was lovely too. The pub and the rooms could do with some decoration to make them a bit more cozy. The breakfast was a little disappointing.
- Kim (10/5): Perfect overnight stay for a family wedding. - Very comfortable, very clean. Very generous continental breakfast. Nothing
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
- Coral (8/5): Beautiful place to stay. - Lovely location , very quiet There is not much around within walking distance if you like to walk
- Rupert (9/5): Great place to stay with fabulous pub and restaurant - Friendly staff - Deb was great. Food in the pub was also delicious. Nice room, quiet and in room continental breakfast was perfect
- Brendan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic short break with convenience of lovely breakfast in your room - Lovely setting.
Very attentive and courteous staff team.
Breakfast was excellent.
Recommend having an evening meal on site, our food was wonderful!
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect idyllic get away! - The suite my daughter and I stayed in at the Dovecote Inn was absolutely perfect in every way! It was a rural getaway removed from the outside world, and the lodge itself took my breath away! I couldn’t tell if we were the first people to stay there, it was immaculately spotless! The bed was HUGE and so were the bath and walk-in shower! Everything you needed for staying over was provided for you, and even catering for my gluten and dairy intolerant daughter wasn’t too much trouble for them. The owners were so lovely and welcoming and the evening meal we had in their restaurant was excellent, again catering for my daughter’s dietary requirements. The location is idyllic, situated by a farm and fields of sheep and lambs! I can’t recommend the Dovecote Inn suite enough and would absolutely love to stay again! There was absolute nothing to not love about the Dovecote!
- Jacqui (10/5): Returning to the Dovecote and it didn’t disappoint. Excellent service from a very friendly team, delicious good, peacef - Peaceful - clean - accommodating
- Fiona (10/5): Fabulous stay, I will definitely return - Immaculately clean, beautiful bathroom and very comfortable bed. Staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. Nothing
- Elizabeth (8/5): Highly recommended overnight stay or short break - Gorgeous village and superb rooms, very friendly staff and just what we needed for an overnight stay for a wedding Nothing. Would have been great to have coffee machines and option of hot breakfast but that would be really picky.
- Ruth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Watson (9/5): Very restful - The idea of breakfast in the room was good. We ate outside.
- Trevor (9/5): Would come again - Great location for our visit to Agricultural Museum and access to National Cycle Route (Sustrans) to Lincoln and general area.
Also turned out to be super restaurant for Lunch and Evening Meal at very reasonable prices. Roon 1, Double Bed - a bit of a dip in the middle.
- Jodey (8/5): Very good - Lovely quiet location, large spacious room, well equipped. Really friendly helpful staff.
Self service breakfast worked really well for me.
- Audrey (10/5): When are we going back - Breakfast was continental in our room, loved this concept. Everything was fantastic
- Daina (10/5): Exceptional - Thank you 😊.
Everything is perfect.
Definitely recommend 👌.
Daina
- Davies (9/5): Great stay - hope to be back! - Very comprehensive continental breakfast. However, nothing cooked hot. Breakfast in room supplied the night before.
Well appointed room with en-suite, plenty of space & storage tastefully decorated. Not a lot
- Brendan (10/5): Dovecote Stay - WIFI was poor in the room apart from that everything else was excellent
- Mario (9/5): Ideal location with easy access to the holocaust museum. - Great location and near the Holocaust memorial centre. Quiet and peaceful location Nothing
- Claireh2412 (10/5): Exceptional - The room was beautiful, absolutely loved it. Amazing bath and the little stairs leading up to the bedroom just gave it such a twist of charm, it was amazing.
The continental breakfast was lovely as well and cutely served in the room so no need to ditch the pj's for brekkie!
- Stephen (9/5): top food, top service a pleasure to stay there. - I thought that the food was superb and the service excellent, i really liked the breakfast in the room just perfect. nothing at all
- Craig (9/5): Great Stay and would recommend. - I arrived late in the day and was delighted to be offered a choice of hot meals, very welcome after a long drive. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Accommodation was excellent and very comfortable. Slept very well. Breakfast was a selection of pain au chocolat, brown white breads, butter jams, cereals yoghurts fresh orange, water and tea and coffee in the room. Maybe not for everyone but was great for me and enjoyed it very much.
- Vicky (8/5): Very good - Beautiful and interesting village location. Excellent sized bedroom. I would say the ensuite was a little too small ..but the shower was good and not too low.
- Trevor (9/5): Good food and comfortable room at a good price. recommended. -
- Hughes (10/5): Brilliant find, comfortable room, great staff and food, highly recommend. - The room was pretty and the bed was so comfortable. It was quiet and we had a really good night's sleep. We especially loved the supply of real coffee. Nothing it was all good, we will be staying again
- Daniel (9/5): Excellent staff, food was lovely and everyone was very accommodating. - Full of character N/A
- Helen (5/5): Disappointing - Location Hard bed and staff stressed and unfriendly. Bar closed without us being told and it was only 10pm
- Tim (8/5): Handy Rural overnight rooms - Quiet, great food, the breakfast pack for the morning is quite a good compromise. Breakfast is served as a pack in the evening , but fresh milk and yogurt is in fridge in room. It’s a Pretty neat idea to allow quick departure but it’s not a big enough inn to offer cooked breakfasts if that’s your thing . The staff are super friendly though and at least one lives on site. Do be aware that the pub closes on a Sunday afternoon about 5:30pm, last food 4pm. No other food in village so either book Sunday roast and eat well there or expect to get takeaway delivered if possible, or travel to another village for food on Sunday night.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Phil (9/5): Would definitely recommend!!! A Great Room match by the staff’s efforts - The Room was perfect, a great size very spacious, great decor throughout. The Staff were great & couldn’t do enough to ensure everything was exactly as you required it. The food was lovely!!!! & Priced reasonably. No cooked breakfast, but you couldn’t fault the choice & effort put into the continental styled feast. The TV was quite small & well away from the Bed. Possibly needs an extra light sensor (corner of the building) for exiting the building when pitch black.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (9/5): Super overnight stay with really friendly staff - Perfect for an overnight stop. The pub was really cosy and the room was spacious & comfortable Would be nice to have a larger tv in the room but that’s only a minor comment
- Sharon (10/5): Very relaxing stay with good food and lovely staff - Relaxing setting for a peaceful stay
Rooms are lovely and have everything you need
- James (10/5): Very comfy -
- Phil (8/5): Very good - Our first impression of The Dovecote was that we had made a very good choice. What a great set up and our room (number 1) was lovely. Cosy and with all the facilities we could need. The plentiful breakfast in the room is a great touch too. The ultimate breakfast in bed! Sadly, my partner Julie was unwell on Saturday evening, which meant our plans for a cosy meal & bottle of red will have to wait for our next visit. Definitely a 10/10 from our experience so far. Thank you!
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Nice view, generally really nice all round.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
