Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): - The hotel looks a tad sketchy from the outside, but has good locks/security. Walking distance to multiple restaurants, stores, and the marina.
Nothing fancy, but had clean rooms, a mini fridge, a TV, and the AC blew cold cold air.
In addition to restaurants, bars, etc., Surrounding area (and it seems to be like this in the general area) has a plethora of pharmacies and massage parlors.
For guys going down to fish, guys going down to hang out and party, definitely worth considering.
- Emile (8/5): - I had a very nice stay and would stay at your hotel again. Thank you very much
- jennifer (10/5): - Great convenient location, excellent staff, housekeeping. Super clean room. Very basic but worth the price. And safe, has an extra gate that requires a key also prior to getting to the rooms. Also has a refrigerator that worked great. Would definitely stay here again.
- A (10/5): - Very clean, spacious. Owner very welcoming and nice. Highly recommend!
- jesus (6/5): - Not bad for the price and location!
- Bryce (10/5): - Very Friendly Staff, Big, Clean Room, Great WiFi, Parking. A great place for a 1 or 2 night stop over in Cabo.
- arash (10/5): - The room was very clean. The location was great. Check in was flawless and they allowed us early check in which was greatly appreciated since we had arrived from a 24 hour boat ride at 9 in the morning. The only issue was they did not clean the room during our 2 nights stay. This may have been by design but I did not see any door hangers to either request or decline the cleaning. There was a sign in Spanish in small print which may have explained this which I did not translate. So the cleaning schedule may have been explained in that sign. Regardless, I was very happy with this hotel.
- STUART (8/5): - Simple, functional and close to ammenities. Not many services on site, but it's good value and close to the action.
- clayton (10/5): - Clean and comfortable. Staff are very kind
- Eric (8/5): Convenient, clean and quiet - Very clean, quiet and excellent value. Friendly Front Desk staff. 1/2 block from main tourist street and short walk to marina.
- Jessica (10/5): Great hotel! - The room was spacious and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. The receptionist was very helpful. The location was convenient. We could hear a little of the street traffic below.
- Sandra (6/5): - It is close to downtown and harbour. There is literally just a bad and a shower and a sink and a little refrigerator absolutely bare minimum only two plug-ins.
- Roland (10/5): - Close to the city
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good value for a week stay - Excellent place to stay in downtown Cabo.

- Donna (10/5): Excellent service - Excellent service. Very clean and good wifi.
- M (10/5): - It is very close to the marina, wonderful food and lots of shopping. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I will stay here again.
- Candice (10/5): - We booked this hotel for one night during our over night cruise to Cabo. It far exceeded our expectations especially for the price. We booked two rooms for our family. Both were clean, spacious and convenient. We will definitely stay again.
- Nelson (10/5): - Close to restaurants and stores
- Paul (10/5): - Very clean and next to everything

- Santhoshkumar (10/5): - Good place to walk nearby Marina
- Edgar (10/5): - Excelent location
- edward (10/5): - Clean and comfortable rooms
- Joel (10/5): - Great stay for the price
- carl (10/5): - Nice place for a couple of nights, The staff were very nice, parking can be a challenge, but for a place in downtown cabo to even offer it was nice. The hotel is very basic, not in a bad way, it is in a great location and they are very friendly.
- Johanna (10/5): - The hotel was good. It wad about the location, everything was less than a 10 minute walk like marina and beaches. Less than a 2 minute walk to downtown where stores and restaurants. The shopping plaza that is like a mall is 15 minutes away and the Walmart is right across from there. Room was clean and air conditioner worked great. It decent and great price. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our rom was cleaned daily and the plus there was a fridge. Planning to go back with family and will stay there.
- Michael John (10/5): - Good, basic room at a fair price in a big city just a block from all the action and food. And very nice folks running it.
- Richard (10/5): Super clean, best value in downtown Cabo - We have been visiting Cabo for over 30 years, and this is the best hotel for the money that we have ever stayed in. Although it appears to be an older hotel from the outside, it has apparently had extensive updating on the inside. It is very well appointed, is extremely clean, and the management is friendly. Also, there is very little street noise, which is uncommon for a downtown location.
- Victor (10/5): - Well keep, nice and clean, friendly and helpful staff. Glad I didn’t rent a car. It would have been difficult to find a place to park it for the night. Lots to see and do within walking distance. Lots of shopping from cultural crafts to Walmart and everything in between. Also many places to eat.
- darrell (10/5): - Very clean hotel, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
- peter (8/5): - dogs barking at all hours, great location to marina and tourist area,
- Wilbert (8/5): - I like fact that I could walk to everything. It was close to the Marina and lots of restaurants. Staff was great. Jose did a great job in helping me.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel manager, Jesus, was very friendly and helpful.
- Edgar (6/5): - No guest allowed policy is terrible... buyer beware... Hotel is located near city center. its very convenient to all nightlife bars, marina and beach. all within a few minutes walking. perfect for shorts stay, transiting through, or late night arrival before checking into your main stay.
What i did NOT like is the no guest allowed in your room policy. so if your single Guy or Gal, you cannot bring anyone back to your room. This is more common in middle east countries not mexico.... I would not return...
- GUADALUPE (10/5): - Good staff, very clean.
- Lucio (10/5): - Excellent value
- Chen (10/5): - The location is walkable to everything. Beach restaurant Bar etc.. This is good for a short trip.
- marisol (10/5): - Staff was super helpful
Room was really big and clean
- scott (10/5): - I was truly amazed by the cleanliness of the place. Looks like the crap on the out side but clean. Rooms smaller than I anticipated but just a place to spend a few extra days. $61. I would stay again for sure.
- Jill (8/5): - Could use more pillows and towels face clothes hand towels.
Location good, ac worked great.
Very simple place. No elevator had to carry luggage up the stairs. Not great place for people with lots of luggage.
- Robert (10/5): - I would stay here again. It was a little more than what I expected. Enjoyed my stay
- Richard (8/5): - We had a large very clean room on the second floor, basic but good. Our friends had mobility issues, so they were on the first floor. There was no ventilation, no windows. We had a refrigerator, they did not. They were not happy. Look at the room before you accept it.
- raferguson (8/5): A mixed bag - Our second floor room was clean and large. We felt very secure due to the heavy gate entrance to that floor. Our friends, who have mobility issues, were on the ground floor. Their room lacked any windows or ventilation; they were not happy. We had a refrigerator, they did not. Look at the room before you take it.
- Josefina (10/5): - The area of hotel is perfect to be close by the marina. There is plenty of restaurants close to hotel and stores to purchase water and other snacks.
- Mehmet (10/5): Location is the bomb! - A great no-frills hotel in the heart of everything that is going on in downtown Cabo. Walking distance to bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. The hotel is VERY basic. You get a bed and a fridge. However, it is super clean. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. Definitely a great overall hotel
- clayton (10/5): - It is a property very centrally located to the restaurants and bars. It is a short walk to the beach. The rooms are quiet with functional AC and TV. The check in with Berta was very easy. She was very accommodating
- Tamara (10/5): Great hotel. - This hotel was wonderful. Close to food, shopping, and walking distance to the harbor. Hotel staff was very friendly. We had a wonderful stay. We would definitely stay here again.
- Peter (10/5): - Its all about what you are looking for. If you want to be close to the harbor, i.e. the center of town then this hotel is great. Very clean and nice. If you want to be in an all inclusive resort on the beach then this is not the hotel for you. We wanted the flexibility to eat all over the place, and do tons of different things in Cabo and this hotel was an incredible value to achieve what we wanted. A for value and proximity to everything.
- Brian (10/5): - We were unable to stay at the hotel due to a major screwup with our flights. The hotel reached out twice to see if we are coming now that is very good customer service.
- Eric (8/5): - For the price this was perfect.
- David (10/5): - Excellent hotel for what we needed. It’s a no thrills hotel. Hotel and room is extremely clean. Walking distance to all the clubs and marina. The price is amazing! The front desk staff are very friendly and extremely helpful.
- douglas (10/5): - Very nice hotel for the price clean and friendly staff
- Ann (10/5): - This is a great option for a local hotel. Jesus is very accommodating and warm.
- Reece (10/5): - Clean quiet safe and good internet
- Kent (10/5): - Clean, new furnituring, close to everything
- Joseph (10/5): - Excellent location, walking distance to everything. Easy parking onsite, great internet connection, clean and friendly staff.
- RICHARD (10/5): - I love this property. the staff working here are so polite and helpful. Close to everything and nice and quiet.
- Douglas (10/5): - Short walk to the marina, but far enough away to be quiet. Good value.
- Matthew (8/5): Clean Place To Crash - This was a last minute trip. I booked this room because it was close to the marina, yet affordable. This is a no bells and whistles type of hotel. You get a very comfortable clean and nice room for a great price. If you want a resort with views this is not for you. If you want a place to crash this will work.
- MAURICIO (8/5): - Near downtown
- Cheryl (8/5): - The room was updated and clean. It had great ac,tv,shower and bed/bedding. The down side was no elevator, no frig or microwave. Walking distance to Cabo Wabo, Salvatore’s and many shops, restaurants and Marina.
- Gilbert (10/5): - This hotel is very convenient. It’s very cozy and hotel was super clean. My wife and I loved this hotel. It’s walking distance from all the bars and food location. Highly recommend
- Adrian (10/5): - Very clean space
- Alberto Cortes (10/5): - Everything was great. I can't say enough. We had a great time and will back again.
- John (10/5): Awesome stay - Very friendly host, great location
- RICHARD (10/5): - Friendly, safe, secure property. Hot water, clean, comfy beds. I will stay again.
- Edith (10/5): - This hotel is located half a block from downtown Cabo. We interacted with the owners son he checked us in and all and they were very attentive to the arrival of our time. The room was very spacious, had fridge, microwave, A/C. Everything you need in hotel. We did not want all those inclusive hotels as we did not want to stay in we wanted to go out and explore the city. It was by far the best stay there, and staff very friendly and accommodating. Nice and calm didn't have to deal with any of downtown music from the clubs. We were walking distance from the clubs, marina, COVID testing, local shops, pharmacy, restaurants and the beach. I would recommend, hopefully can bring the rest of the family here.
- Andrew (10/5): Clean and Friendly - Very well maintained, clean hotel in a great location. Will definitely stay here again when back in Cabo.
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent hotel for the money. - This is a budget hotel in a great central location which is well maintained and kept very clean. The front desk was always helpful and friendly, and did an great job getting laundry done and back to you very quickly. Overall this is exactly what you hope to get when booking a basic, inexpensive hotel, nothing fancy but everything works and is clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great Value - Great Value, Some may find location makes them a bit nervous.
- Daniel (6/5): - It was ok clean , but room was an inside room with no windows.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Such a perfect place for anyone looking to stay in Cabo! Best deal around with very clean room and all the necessities!
- Fishytravel (10/5): So glad I found this hotel again - My husband and I had stayed here in 2015 and found that it perfectly suited us in terms of the room, bathroom, location and price. We have been back to Cabo multiple times in the years since and stayed in many different hotels - from budget to high-end. I had actually been hoping to find Hotel Maria Elena again but just couldn't remember the name. When I booked it this year, I actually thought it was another ok place that we had stayed at and was happy and almost excited to discover that I had found our 2015 hotel! Our room was still modern and comfortable, with everything you might need. The location is still perfect and ideal for walking to all the places and restaurants we usually go to before or after our dive liveaboard cruises. If you're looking for a beach holiday resort, this isn't it. But for great temporary lodging (better than some of the pricier options), Hotel Maria Elena remains our first choice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excelente servicio y disposición de los encargados, habitaciones perfectas si solo quieres un lugar para bañarte y dormir.
La regadera no funciona bien (2 chorritos con poca presión)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really great location for walking to all the local restaurants/attractions like Tacos Guss (5 min), the marina (10 min), maro's fish house (10-15 min), the bars and clubs (10 min). The street Maria Elena is on is pretty quiet, no noise from the main street a block away. The room was very clean, daily house keeping, very friendly staff. low water pressure in the shower but the water did get very hot. Bar soap and shampoo are provided (no conditioner or body wash). This is a budget hotel and fully met those expectations.
No pool. minimum 1 flight of stairs to get the the 1st level of rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value downtown. - Good value. A little off the main path but newly renovated and clean.
- Rob (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at Maria Elena... Great location, just 2 blocks from one of the main strips. Plenty of nearby restaurants. We never stay in high end fancy hotels. Room was small, but no complaints. Ac worked great, hot water comfy bed. Staff was amazing. We would definitely stay again.
- Stephanie (10/5): Highly recommend - Great location to walk around Cabo San Lucas. Friendly hotel staff. Clean, comfortable, and safe! Air conditioning and everything else we needed. This was my second time in the hotel, and I would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, excellent price and friendly staff!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - That it was close to Downtown, literally, not even a block away, close to all amenities. The night life was right around the corner so it was easy to stay out late and just walk to your room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location 1 block off the strip. Quiet & clean. Staff polite & helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Worth a stay! - We loved it! Everyone was very sweet, price was incredible, location was central. The room was comfortable and very clean. Our only gripe was the lack of water pressure in the shower but the temperature was great - plenty of hot water!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel is a short walk to resturants and entertainment.
- Edgar (10/5): Nice place to stay, close to everything, good valu - It was nice, the only problem: Americans and their pot smoking in the room, and only three spaces of parking, but most of the guest don’t have cars so at the next day we had a parking space.
- sheldons728 (8/5): A VERY nice Hotel for the price. - I was greeted by friendly staff when I stayed here. Complete with marble floors and granite THROUGHOUT the bathroom. The hotel was right off the strip, and with just a little walk( really just down the street) I was at the Marina. Laundry facility onsite and very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was great. Location was close to tourist attractions. Amentities good. Water pressure needs to be adjusted but other than that loved my stay.
- Martin (2/5): - The “hotel” only have 3 parking box, if you book here you are going to parking on the street with nothing of security or safe for your vehicle, I had to leave the hotel and go find another security, i dont use the room, the staff or the owner dont give me any option, or refoun because they have this political, this unnapointment its by safety and security, they need to put more parking spaces 17 rooms and 3 parking boxes its not a parking. I call the expedia team for a resolution, but they could not negotiate with the owner, just as I am, they simply shielding himself in their "no refund" policy. Here i only put my money in the trash, bad experience.
- travelapple (6/5): Basic but good - We stayed here one night on our arrival . Decent sized room , clean , nice bathroom. TV and WiFi fine. Then we left and stayed another night before we left towne the second stay was a much larger room! Very basic rooms , tiles floors , comfortable beds ! Good location able to walk to downtowne and marina easily!! The woman who helped us each time was also very nice!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice small hotel right in the middle of downtown. Small restroom but over all super clean room. Friendly personnel
- Stephen (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. Jesus is a great host and the maids made sure our room was kept very clean and tidy. Hotel is located in a perfect spot to access downtown and the marina. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great price and a quiet place to stay. No pool and minimum amenities but the staff and price make up for it!
- M2422VDstevec (10/5): This hole in the wall is a jewel in the rough. - I have stayed at Maria Elena twice now, once in 2014, and again this past summer. It seemed almost identical both times. When you buy it with the flight package, this hotel is dirt cheap, but it’s certainly not a low-grade property. This hideaway stay has rooms decked out with classic tile work, including the bathrooms, and the beds are firm and comfortable. My room was always fresh and immaculate every afternoon when I came back from lunch. The rooms are very simple, and you have only a mini-fridge and a flat screen TV. There were plenty of cable channels, and a handful of them show top American movies and programs in English. Mexico has a tendency to use wall units instead of HVAC systems to control the air in separate rooms, and Maria Elena is no exception. On both of my stays, I kept the air cool overnight, and neither unit faltered in the slightest.
My first room was smaller with a tiny window that gave me almost no view, but on the second visit, I asked for an upper floor with a good view; the big window I got had a beautiful mountain view that I woke up to blissfully every sunrise.
I love the specific block this hotels sits on. There is an elementary school a block away, and a youth center with attractive architecture and landscaping sits directly across the street. Several little businesses fill in the lots around the block, and you have convenience stores and mini markets within a short walk. The one black eye is the hovel in a trashy lot next door. I especially like the safety features of the hotel. You get a room key and a second key that unlocks a gated stairway, so the occasional stranger strolling by can’t wander upstairs to any of the rooms. The proprietor, a friendly guy named Jesus, also operates a laundry service on the first floor, and he is usually on property. After dark, there is a bright street lamp out front.
Of course, the main benefit of this location is Cabo Wabo and the main strip that leads to the marina. Maria Elena is literally 200 steps from it. That being noted, I must give a shout out to Hooliganz, which is the closest bar to the hotel, just half a block away. It’s a divey little place with excellent TVs all around the room, and the same three awesome servers provide Cheers-style service every time you walk in. Their cook made delicious tacos, and I made this place my other home the whole week I was there. It’s run by a friendly Canadian couple, yet it feels very American. I remember just taking in the energy and bustle of the three-way intersection right outside the doors of Hooliganz. They wisely chose floor-length sliding glass to allow maximum sunshine into the room, which also provides for a more dramatic experience of the controlled chaos that is the ceaseless Mexican traffic right outside the bar.
There are several little hotels in this neighborhood north of the tourist zone, but I don’t think you could find a better deal so close to the best amenities in Cabo San Lucas. I’ll be back to Maria Elena for years to come.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is a motel and not a hotel. Don't even attempt to book here. Once you get there and realize it is a hole in the wall, they will take your money and #Expedia will not refund it. It is nowhere close to a beach. Don't even try it, they ruined my vacation because I had to book another hotel. i WAS FOOLED BY THE PICTURE.
- Jordan (8/5): - Average hotel. Please do NOT rely on the provided photos, as these rooms are actually very small. No, this is not a biased review or experience. I was in Cabo San Lucas for 7 days with my girlfriend, and we chose this over others for the cheap great price and location. Well - you get what you paid for. We were near the streets which were extremely noisy at 6/7AM, and the rooms were just way to simple and small.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Clean room, courteous manager, price, but........ - I really wanted to give this place a very positive review. Manager was very courteous. Room was very clean. Price was low for being within walking distance of the heart of town. Just a couple blocks to Cabo Wabo or Giggling Marlin and not far from the marina where people are paying 5 times as much for a room. However their parking is minimal and unsecured. After being told it was safe I had things stolen from my motorcycle while it was parked right in front of the office, bummer. I could have stayed at a more expensive place with security and been money ahead. While I had no personal security problems, you do walk a block on dark city street away from the main tourist area to get back at night, some might not be comfortable with it. So, if clean and price are your main reasons to choose a room it's good, regret it did not work for me.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Budget hotel off beaten path - Clean and quiet budget hotel just behind marina but away from congested development of busy tourist area.
- Stu (8/5): Nice hotel, centrally located - Very nice and accommodating, safe, reasonably priced and close to Marina and very central. I enjoyed my stay. Only thing I suggest is that drinking glasses be included in room.
- Ldtjrods (8/5): Just right - We stayed 3 nights here. Jesus the manager was awesome & very friendly. He gave us great restaurant tips. Letty in housekeeping is a nice & very helpful lady. The wifi is weak in the rooms, but stronger in the hallway of each floor close to the routers. Rooms were nice, clean & huge with 2 full size beds. Bathrooms were nice with marble floor & walls. Great location in downtown Cabo, short walk to everything. No screens on windows. Note: hotel is not for disabled or handicapped as you have to climb stairs to get to all the rooms.
- Mike (10/5): Beautiful hotel - I stayed 5 days and I enjoyed it , staf was pleasant , thank you guys definitely I’m coming back
