La historia del rancho super interesante, así como su ubicación, si bien es cierto que está algo apartado de Durango que tiene su ventaja y desventaja. Tristemente al entrar el primer día, era bastante evidente que el alojamiento no había sido bien limpiado y recogido después de la salida de los anteriores huéspedes ese mismo día. Probablemente fue alguna complicación por las fechas festivas (un 26 de diciembre) en que nos encontrábamos. Lo comentamos al personal y se solucionó rápidamente.
Kathy (8/5): Lovely place to stay. - The location was great. A little drive from Durango, but nice and quiet. We enjoyed the our room and the breakfast was amazing. They did a great job! There were three of us, so I got the pull out couch. Not a great sleep, mattress of course is thin and hard as a rock. Could benefit from a fluffy pillow top.
Jerry (2/5): - Upon arrival, the property was not at all as described on their website. No beautiful views of the mountains and nothing but overgrown brush. Not to mention that it was in the middle of nowhere, much farther than Durango as described. Not a restaurant, store or gas station within miles and miles. We opted NOT to stay even though we’d already made a $500 + deposit. We left extremely disappointed and angry and had to spend more time and money finding an available hotel. I emailed the property owner, but did not get a response. Terrible experience, terrible misrepresentation.

Our room was wonderful. Our room was spacious and very relaxing, with a patio in back. Our only regret is, we did not get to stay longer.

Susan (10/5): The greeting of hummingbirds at the water fountain is priceless. - This was my second stay at Blue Lake Ranch. The setting is idyllic overlooking some of the best views in this part of Colorado. I have a recent health issue and inadvertently reserved a second floor room with a deep tub/shower combo, which I cannot step over. The stairs were a challenge. At my age I should know better. Yet, I overcame the obstacles. My room was in the main house which has a wonderful history reflecting the grand decor. It is lovely. I was greeted with a letter, instead of a human at first, until I broke the silence. I guess that is residual from covid days. The next morning a scrumptious breakfast was served by a wonderul cook that I chatted with. This was not your ordinary travel breakfast, and I appreciated every bit of it. I will return one day, booking a first floor room! On the down side. The property is aging. I understand budgets. The brick on the balcony where the rails are anchored, of my room is breaking up. I couldn't sit outside on the balcony due to wasps (it is afterall in a wooded area). It is cool at nights, but I couldn't use the sliding door screen as it would not shut all the way.

They tried to move us to another cabin and charge us another $400.00 a night we asked for a full refund and they did grant that so thank you! Property was very overgrown and not handicap accessible at all. Photos on line looked nothing like it does now they look like they were taken 10 years ago. Most of Durango was booked up we got lucky and found a motel room for the night. My sister who has cancer had the pleasure of sleeping in a chair then going to chemotherapy the next day and then spending over a hour in a car to go home. Would not recommend nor will we be back!

The casita was super clean, charming and an amazing night sleep in utter silence with great star and night sky viewing. Food was amazing - the breakfast was really excellent. We chose Blue Lake because we stayed many years ago and remember how peaceful it was. @ little disappointed this time around as the grounds need to be kept up more. The rooms need updating. There was @ terrible smell from the septic system when we entered the room. It finally disapated. Stone steps were broken going up to the room which was dangerous. Updating the beds is a must.
Stephen (4/5): - The "free breakfast" was not even a continental breakfast. There was fruit/some, cereal, bagels, sandwich meat/cheese, and horrible coffee. The A/C in the room did not keep the room cool in the slightest and the vent was on the floor when I got to it so I propped it to blow what cool air it had into the room. The heater was left on downstairs so this added to the heat when I initially go there. I also was "allowed" to go to the water since there was nobody booked in the cabin by the water, otherwise apparently at Blue Lake Ranch you aren't allowed to go to the water. There is no restaurant within miles so bring food with you if you go, which I do NOT suggest!

Rob (10/5): - Just a heads up that this B&B is actually a 25 minute drive outside of Durango. That was definitely an unexpected wrinkle in our plans. They don’t serve breakfast until 8am, and if you are riding the Durango to Silverton Railroad, you have to be AT the train station by 8:30, and that’s after you drive 25 minutes to get there, wait 5-10 minutes in line to get into their all day parking lot, and then walk to the station. That issue caused us to have to skip breakfast altogether. Bummed for sure. Aside from that, the staff was super friendly, the room was spacious and comfortable, and we enjoyed the stay. The only critiques for the room were: 1. The TV was really small and didn’t receive any major network stations. 2. The light above the bathroom vanity was quite dim, although I’ve been told I’m much more attractive in the dark, so maybe the dim lighting was a blessing?! 3. It took 90 seconds or more to get hot water at the shower and/or the bathroom sink.

Breakfast was good and staff attentive to requests. We had some trouble with door lock to get in and to lock when we left but was possibly a battery issue.

Shirley called and gave us an upgrade to the Garden Suite-- it was so spacious and a beautiful retreat setting. We love the fireplce, large shower and four poser bed. We walked the property and had breakfast in the morning. It was a wonderful getaway!!! The property is a little dated-- but that works if you are truly trying to unplug.

The owners upgraded my stay at no extra cost, which was a pleasant surprise. No window coverings in the front of the house, and not everything locked but the staff were able to help out right away. The back door was unlocked and open when I arrived, and the trash wasn't emptied in the kitchen from the previous guest. Being right next to the highway was unexpected, traffic is a little noisy. There's also a van parked not far from the house with people driving up and down the private driveway at night.

Dennis (9/5): A beautiful inn in a stunning location!! - Excellent location! Not a long drive to Durango, but being out of the town made the stay so relaxing and enjoyable! The breakfast each morning was delicious and the dining room was beautiful. Innkeeper was kind and very helpful; gave us some ideas for local dining and day trips we wouldn’t have known about. All the staff were friendly, engaging and helpful. One day, we ordered two sack lunches from the inn (a great service!) to take on a day trip, and the sandwiches were fantastic!! We would definitely come back again!

It was very roomy and spacious and provided a beautiful area for our daughters to take pictures on the balcony while we rested. Breakfast was sweet in the spacious kitchen the next morning and we had the choice of eating in the dining room or on the patio. We would definitely stay here again. Our girls were hungry and after 8:30 there isn’t anywhere close to get a soda or food. If we hadn’t had a couple of snacks we wouldn’t have had anything for them. I would suggest leaving drinks and a few small snacks for guests staying here. The closest restaurants were 20-30 minutes away.

Martina (6/5): Beautiful spot in the nature - Freshly prepared breakfast was great with the lake view. Whole areal is very charming both at night and in the morning. We made online reservation in the evening for the same day. Although the reservation was automatically approved, nobody was present at the reception desk nor noboday pick up the phone when we arrived. Waiting up to 45 minutes in the evening to find somebody to get to our room was pretty inconvenient. And no apologize get the next day... I guess with reservation made couple days in advance it would be great experience. Bath tub was great but a bit dirty (with cobwebs).

The River House was amazing! The Venue for the Celebration of Life and the Catering for the event was fantastic! Would have liked to have the cobwebs cleared over the doors and in the windows (screens). Didn't love the dead mice in the traps but understand that can't be avoided.

Their office hours are from 9am-4pm and breakfast is served from 8am-9am and it’s delicious they have a variety of foods to choose from and it’s different everyday. Highly recommend this bed and breakfast!
Jessica (4/5): - It’s just as beautiful and picturesque as the pictures. However, we had three main issues with our stay. When we arrived it had been cleaned just not very well. The upstairs carpet is stained and old and didn’t have vacuum lines. I’m a former house cleaner so I can tell when a room has been vacuumed. Everything was pretty dusty and there was hair and dust on the ground. Basically you can tell the sheets were clean and the toilets it just needed a deep clean. The food was edible but not great. The biggest issue we had was that we stayed in the Mountain View room which is connected by one door to another room (the piñon room I believe) and we could hear literally everything going on in that apartment. To the degree that one morning they must have been talking in front of the door and we thought someone was in our unit because the sound carried it straight to our bedroom. Overall it’s just alright. For paying $1k total we probably won’t be going back. We realized one of our favorite hotels would have ended up being cheaper/cleaner/better food. So guess it depends what you’re looking for!
