- Susie (4/5): disappointing - location car park was wasp infested - could not leave car or room door open for long due to risk of wasps entering. Bed was uncomfortable, sheets were threadbare. No fan in toilet, and as stated, unable to leave door open for fresh air, due to wasps. Both chairs outside were broken.

- Louise (6/5): Budget price and very basic with lots of room for improvement, but great position. - Great location, lovely view from rear unit with lots of birds, kangaroos and sheep grazing. I would recommend getting a rear unit. I was expecting budget standard, but a lot could be done without great expense to improve the experience. Room was grungy and showing a lack of investment by owner. We only saw one staff member who seemed to be responsible for everything so no criticism of him, but the grounds were very rundown and rubbish lying everywhere.

- Susan (7/5): Cheaper stay right in the middle of Halls gap - I liked that they had a variety of room choices with different beds to fit your needs. They also provided a fridge, microwave and dinnerware which was helpful when you bring your own food with. Since I booked with Booking.com I never got a confirmation email directly from the motel. I called two days before and was supposed to hear back and never did. We were prepared to have to stay in a different place, but at check-in they did have our reservation. Not the best communication I guess.

- Pérez Arango (5/5): It was a good place to sleep at but not well looked after to enjoy it for multiple days. - Property was close to hiking trails and the town centre; the beds were comfortable and the room clean which is the most important feature for me. The back of my roomo verlooked the Eastern Grampians so it was stunning in the morning. It was also home to a family of Superb Fairywrens, whom I loved seeing work together to feed their hatchling. A bit run down. I don't mind the minimalist lodge design, but it was clearly not well looked after, with dusty cracked floors outside the rooms, disorganised shrubs and easy acess to other peope's rooms. I also got a bathroom which was particularly old and in dire need for refurb.

They need to remove the rubbish that's lying around the carpark and clean up the outside areas, and tend to the gardens. The BBQ area was very dirty and uninviting (although we weren't going to use it, but others might want to).

- Scott (7/5): Great location, needs attention. - The Kookaburra Motor Lodge is in a very convenient location close to the centre of town. It had lovely views from the room across a field to the peaks to the east. The bathroom was dated but had great shower. The property is run down and very dated. There were bits of rubbish in a barely tended garden. Stepping out the back door to the room was onto an old railway sleeper that rocked and was not safe if you had a mobility issue, older or drunk. It could do with an injection of cash to fix it up. Of course that would put prices up, and for a one night stay it's all you need and good value for money. Also watched 4 or 5 cockatoos raiding a room bin when the staff had left the door open. Keep your doors closed.
- Muirin (6/5): - Lovely location, very friendly staff. Had basic facilities! Unfortunately, we had a mouse in our room, which really wasn’t acceptable. We were trying to sleep and kept hearing something moving around and got quite a fright when we turned the light on and saw it. To be fair, the staff were quick to respond and moved us to another room straight away, which we appreciated. The first room also had quite a bit of dust, cobwebs, and a lot of flies—especially around the bed—which made it pretty uncomfortable. Being so close to a national park, we understand that things like flies and even the large spider we found can happen—but a mouse in the room was too far. The second room was much better, but by the time we got moved and settled it was around 3am, so we ended up pretty exhausted.

No fan in bathroom.. bathroom/toilet windows opened onto walkway so with no fan & open window .. you could either hear or smell what was going on in there!!

- Michael (5/5): Disappointed that a once fine and well-maintained property has greatly deteriorated. - Location is great, easy walk into the village, abundant wildlife. I and family members have stayed here probably 6-8 times in the last 20+ years, but will no longer return. The place has gone progressively downhill over that time and is now poorly maintained (potholed pavement, weeds and dead plants in abundance, bins and boxes and garden implements left lying around, subsided brick paving on patios) and the interiors of the rooms need a complete overhaul. The bathrooms in particular have black, mouldy caulking around showers and basins. Curtains not attached to railings, handle missing off insect screen etc. All of the above is regrettably indicative of nobody caring what the place looks like because one assumes they're still attracting plenty of visitors and they therefore don't have to do the upkeep or make the necessary investments in renovation. Very sad to see this once very fine motor inn go downhill.

Prior to staying I wanted to ask a question so rang repeatedly for a few days straight and eventually left a message with there never being any answer to both. The place outside is looking really run down and shabby, it's a real shame as the previous owners had it looking beautiful.

- Susan (8/5): The room was clean and comfortable, and the mountain view spectacular! - The room was clean and comfortable, although basic, and the patio facing the mountain was fabulous. We were able to watch many birds and animals in the meadow. It was close enough to walk to local restaurants and shops. It was sad to see that the landscaping around the motel and the courtyard is weedy and unattended. I know you experienced a fire last year and hopefully the landscaping can be brought back as you recover.
