- Carl (8/5): - Everything close, staff great, kids had fun

- alicU449VQ (2/5): Stay away! - Stay at your own risk! From the moment we checked in, things already felt a bit off. The gentleman at the front desk confirmed the length of our stay, quoted us the total cost, and asked whether we would be paying with cash or card. I was confused and explained that we had already paid in full and that my credit card had been charged. He said, "Let me check," and although I'm not sure he actually did, he returned in under a minute, handed us our room keys, and called for a bellhop.
When we got to our room, we realized it was on a lower level, even though I had specifically booked and paid for an oceanfront room on a higher floor. I called the front desk to request a change and was told a higher-floor room would be available the next day.
We then went to the concierge to make dinner reservations for our stay, only to be told everything was fully booked. Ana, the concierge who assisted us, mentioned that guests staying more than three nights receive access to the Nickelodeon water park. However, before giving us the tickets, she tried to sign us up for what was clearly a timeshare presentation (though she didn't explicitly call it that). She asked us to meet her in the concierge lounge the next morning so she could take us to the presentation and then to the park. We chose not to attend and instead drove ourselves to the water park.
The next day around noon, we were notified that our new room was ready. We packed our belongings and moved upstairs. Couple hours later, concierge notified me that I had left my wallet behind, something that felt very strange, as I had checked the room multiple times. I assumed I may have dropped it under the bed or under the coffee table.
When my wallet was returned, I quickly checked inside and immediately noticed that $220 USD in cash was missing. I also saw that my credit cards had been moved out of place.
I went down to the concierge to report the incident. The concierge manager, Luis, showed no sympathy and did not apologize. I was informed that I will be updated in 24 hrs. 24hrs later, I received 0 calls, 0 updates. I escalated the issue to the front desk hotel manager Emmanuel, and received the same response. No concern, no urgency, no apology, and no follow-up, no accountability whatsoever.
At this point, I've accepted that I likely won't recover the missing money, but I wanted to share my experience. The resort itself is beautiful, but based on what we went through, I would advise others to stay at your own risk. I will not be returning!
- W6520FBnancys (10/5): Another great trip! - We go to Generations twice a year for 2 weeks each time because the staff is our extended family. This trip our son and his family joined us for 4 days and they all loved it. As I stated, it is the staff that keeps us coming back starting with the great management team of Carlos, Fabiola and Berenice. They are very approachable if one has a concern. We really appreciate their leadership and friendship.
Because we are members, one of our favorite groups of people are the butlers; however, we do NOT like the head butler moving them around from resort to resort. We were fortunate to have Paul and Gerardo this trip with Ana filling in as needed, and we loved seeing Eddie there, but we REALLY missed having Luna, Imelda, Pablo, Luiz and Israel at the resort. We really hope this procedure of moving butlers around (and not informing them until the last minute) will change before our next trip. It does not benefit the members or the butlers.
We also love the food and service. We would like to acknowledge the head of the restaurants, Urbano, for leading such a great staff. Standouts for us were Chef Daniel, Chef Paco, Chef Alexander, and Chef Miguel. We appreciate that at each restaurant a special of the day is always offered. The captains and hosts/hostesses at the restaurants kept things running smoothly including Miguel, Aimee, and Elena at Chef’s Market, Octavio and Sarahi at Palms, Fernando at Habb and Tovar at the Wine Kitchen. We received outstanding service from the following servers: Juan Carlos, Brian, Alma, Eduardo, Karen, Mario G. And Garcia at Chef’s Market; Israel, Roberto, Alvis and Xavier at Palms; and Gerardo, Ricardo, Marco and Octavio at Wine Kitchen. I must also include the team of sommeliers in my review including Edgar, Fabiola, Ricardo and Omar. What a wealth of knowledge each of them possess! They are all a wonderful addition to the staff.
Entertainment staff is top-notch with Xiomara as the leader. Wendy, Daniela and Ingrit went above and beyond with our granddaughters in the Kid’s Club. Paty, Emanuel and Emiliano provided great activities in and around the pool.
Drinks by the pool, were ever present provided by Erbie and Martha.
Housekeeping services were exceptional with our daily person, Carmen and Sharon filling in on Carmen’s day off. We appreciated our nightly turn down service from Leny.
We knew our luggage was safe with the bellboys and our pick up times would be honored with bellboys Julian and Enrique.
All in all another great trip. We look forward to our return in October and we really hope our butlers won’t get moved around anymore unless absolutely necessary.

- awesome7JBLB (10/5): Friends and a honeymoon! - We keep returning to this resort! The location, the food, and THE PEOPLE! Gerard, Ana, Imelda, and Luiz took great care of us. Management checked in on us just to see if everything was as we desired.
- Eduardo (1/5): Only as a cheap alternative to Nickelodeon, don’t expect much - closeness to Nickelodeon park. ok food Old noisy rooms, not very comfortable, cold swimming pools not suitable for little kids. Minibar not refilled daily.
- B2661REjoannea (8/5): The truth- pros and cons - Just came back from March Break with the family.
Pros: Food was really good, swim out on the main level is excellent, service and staff are friendly. Included in your stay are a few excursions all of which were fun - book them when you get there, we did the Nik waterpark and the Beach day trip with snorkeling- food was amazing there!
Cons: No entertainment or anything to do besides eat and lounge at the pool - my teens were very bored, better for younger kids that swim eat and sleep. The beach is not good, you will not be swimming there. Resort is a bit run down with parts of the resort being completely abandoned looking.
If you are looking to relax by a pool with great food and drink this was great! If you are a beach person that wants to socialize after dinner or if you are coming with teens this is not for you.
- 324darbyb (6/5): Paid for premium room and did not receive - Booked a swim up room and was told none available when we arrived. Booked 6 months in advance to enjoy main floor swim out with family. Offered resorts credits which we were not interested in. Will not deal with this hotel group ever again
- Cruiser796205 (2/5): Not happy - I just arrived and the rooms I booked were not available to us. They are saying there are no rooms available for the duration of our stay. We booked 6 months ago and this is unacceptable.
- derekburke72 (10/5): Excellent resort but limited ocean swimming - The food and service was outstanding at this resort. Our two butlers, Eddie and Gaby did a fantastic job! They really helped to make the stay a lot more enjoyable!
- F5452VMbenjaminl (8/5): Overall good experience with a couple small issues. - Our family had a very enjoyable week at Generations. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Pool and more inclusive excursions are the highlights for us.
Definitely not overcrowded at the pool or bars at any time during the week. Food was pretty good, but a little disappointed at the options to dine with our kids. Only the buffet and wine kitchen are regular dinner options, Jade and Haab occasionally. With 2 adults-only properties next door, why wouldn't all the Generations options be available for kids?
Beach really isn't an option for swimming with the rocky shore and seaweed was an issue this time of year, although they worked hard to keep it as clear as possible. Plenty of beds and chairs available.
The more inclusive excursions were very enjoyable. They can fill up, so best advice is to book right away for the week. We did the Cenote/cave tour and had a good time. 90 minute drive, and some rough roads but worth it.
Maroma beach/snorkeling was great. Snorkeling was a little rough with the waves, but catamaran and beach were good. Kids had a good time at AquaNick, maybe a little more geared towards younger kids, but still some good water slides for the 10+ ages.
Ordered room service a couple times, once took 2+ hours and had to call multiple times, once it was right on time, so hit and miss. Room and whole resort were very clean and maintained, no issues. Talked with concierge about decorating for my son's birthday but it never happened, not sure why. Maybe because I declined presentation for Exotic traveler club?
Overall good experience with a couple small issues.
- fdlvr888 (4/5): Could have been a nice trip but in the end they just don't care - Our room was great, Loved the set up!
Our butlers Benjamin and Paul were great!
Food was great at all the restaurants! We have been to many Exotic resorts and we never received attitude from staff like we received here. Just a handful of staff members were rude mostly the hostess at the Asian and Indian restaurants.
We booked 4 rooms for a week and 1 room for 4 days. We were having a celebration for my mom's 80 birthday.
We booked a private beachfront dinner for 11 of us on the beach at 6:30. We had to pay for 4 guests ($150/pp)that didn't have our benefits, we are exotic members. We were running late which we communicated, we were 20 minutes late because our tour returned late. We were told to go to the beach near Nickelodeon we did and nothing there. Contacted butler and were told to go to the other end of the beach. Showed up and nothing on the beach. Saw the butler and he brought us up to the enclosed deck area overlooking the beach. There was a table with 10 chairs, no table cloth, no place settings, no beach just 1 unset table in a big area. This was the surprise dinner for my mom's 80th??!! We paid $600 for this at an all inclusive resort???!!
So disappointing. They eventually moved the table down to the beach and set it but what was meant to be special ended up a disappointment.
So one of the rooms upon check in had a major issue and could not be used. One of our guests had to go to a lower tier room for a night. No big deal but we were told we would get a $300 credit. Great! Several days later we got 2 $100 vouchers that could be used at Lomas or the Spa. Well we already had our excursion and we already charged our spa activities to our main room not our guests room. Upon check out we were told that those vouchers were only good for that particular room and we could not use them for our room even though all charges from all of the rooms went to our room.
Next, as Exotic members all family adults in our room receive 2 massages . That's me , my wife and my mom. We used 5 of the massages. Upon check out we are told that we needed to show proof that my Mom was actually my mom otherwise we had to pay for her massage. Are you kidding me??!! She got remarried so she has a different last name. We showed pictures over the years with her but that wouldn't do. They wanted a birth certificate. Now out ride was waiting for us to go to the airport so we had to go. They said we could send a copy of the birth certificate when we got home. We did but of course no response and no credit. We paid a lot of money for this trip and for our Exotic benefits and We were nickeled and dimed in the end. So for a few hundred dollars you lost a guest who spent thousands of dollars at your resort. We had a reservation made for El Dorado on March 14 this year but we canceled it.
Update: we sent in a picture and proof of my mom actually being my mom and they still denied the refund. It's an ok small resort but not worth it. Much better resorts out there. Oh, don't bother joining Exotic. There are some nice benefits but in the end it's not worth the price!!
- johnsR6982MC (6/5): Good Experience, But Not Five-Star - Stayed February 16–21, 2026 | Good Experience, But Not Five-Star
We stayed at Generations Riviera Maya from February 16–21, 2026. Overall, we had a good experience — but it is not a five-star resort.
The staff was pleasant, hardworking, and generally accommodating. We encountered many individuals who clearly cared and were doing their best. Service interactions were positive across the board.
Where the resort falls short is in consistency and systems. For example, dinner reservations are required, but no one proactively explained the process or asked about our preferences upon arrival. Our in-room fridge was restocked once and then never again during our stay. We had to call the front desk multiple times just to get a blanket and pillows for our son. None of these issues are major on their own, but collectively they suggest a lack of operational consistency.
The biggest concern, however, was room upkeep and cleanliness. Our ceiling fan was caked in dust. We had cracked sinks, fixtures coming loose from the wall, and visible wear throughout the room. The furnishings showed dents and dings, and the room clearly needed fresh paint. It’s understandable that a family resort experiences wear and tear — kids will be kids — but that level of visible deterioration is not what most travelers would consider five-star quality.
In short: good overall experience, strong and friendly staff, but the property needs investment in both systems and refurbishment if it wants to justify a luxury rating.
We enjoyed our trip and made great family memories, but expectations should be calibrated accordingly.
- ERIKA (5/5): -
- ERIKA (6/5): - Todo muy bien El personal de los restaurantes muy déspota clasista atienden muy mal peor que si fueran los dueños
- 007zaki (10/5): WestJet Travel - Accommodation were excellent but more for a family so the management provided us with alternative of moving to El Dorado and went from ocean view to gardent view, but had full access to all three resorts. The landscape is incridble, the food is exellent ecept for a couple of restaurants, but the beach is below standard.
Service is a 5 stars, that include the attitude of all staff, very well
- Compass20686474533 (10/5): Another wonderful trip to Generations - My family has been to generations numerous times and we love it. It is a nice clean resort and it’s smaller so it’s easier to get around to everything.
This time, our butler was Luiz and Fernando and they were wonderful. There were a few other people that stood out to us as well. When we were at the pool bar, we were attended to in a timely manner and really enjoyed Miguel and Geni. The first day we were there and had lunch at the Palms, Roberto was very attentive and made our lunch a great experience. When we went to the Mexican fiesta, our waiter was Guillermo, and I think he was my favorite. He was fun, singing a long and on top of serving us. When we were at Habb restaurant our waiter was Manuel, and he was wonderful as well. One of the fun activities that they did was painting hats and it was so awesome because I’ve never done it before and our paint teacher was Navi, she made the experience very fun. Oh, and we can’t forget about our beach butler. His name was Erbie and he was great, and I mean really great. Really the only complaint I had on this trip was the beach. There is seaweed all over but they had employees picking it up daily and that’s not a big deal because it’s natural. However, this time on the beach, there was so much trash like plastic and bottle caps and just random things everywhere that should be probably picked up every day. It would just make the beach way nicer and prettier. Other than that, we love Generations Resort.

- Kay (1/5): Worst Experience EVER! - I don't know how people give this place a stellar review. Checked in, and the front desk told us Booking.com did not pay them! WHAT! We paid in full, showed them the receipt, but NOTHING!!! Next time, work with your vendor, not the customer! We had to put a $1,000 deposit down and were told to call Booking.com. We came late with the kids so we did! We went to the buffet, and literally, they were OUT OF FOOD! Do not book with them or with booking.com for this facility. There was another review have the same experiences!
- gmcudvl34 (10/5): Besties vacation - Once again another fantastic experience at Generations Riveria Maya within El Dorado Royal. The entire property was beautiful with staff attending to it daily. All day no matter where you go you are greeted with a warm smile and an ‘hola’. I have been many times to this Exoctic property and I’m a repeat customer because I feel at home. This was the first time my bestie went with me and she was blown away! She fell in love and will be joining our next trip. She laughed when I said I need to find all my people and sure enough we did! It’s the people that make the experience. Our beach butlers Ramone and Jose were exceptional as usual, treated us like queens! They are absolutely the best and 💯 family. I love seeing their smiling faces and pure joy they radiate. Gracias por todo mi familia!
David and Rene our butlers were awesome they made sure all our needs and wants were met within minutes. Such attentive service. They would make sure and check in on us throughout the day to ensure our experience was top notch. Thank you! Marta Marta Marta mi Reina she is the most joyful and kind spirit at El Dorado and exceptional bartender! She always knows your drink of choice and before you finish one she is waiting with the next! Gracias mi amiga!
Naay spa NEVER fails. We had two exceptional massages with Oscar and Stephanie and a relaxing facial. Will definitely request them both again upon our return in May! Excellente! Yup we are going back with a group of 8. Shout out to Lomas travel for fantastic service, all the bell boys and wait staff. Excellent food at the Palms for breakfast with a stunning view, Jade,D’Italia Casitas, Haab and Sante Fe so tasty. Definitely ate too much but it was worth it every last morsel;) Gracias por todo! We will see you in May!!!
- khandi (9/5): Great for families with little ones… we will return! - The more inclusive options are a great addition I used the airport shuttle, aqua nick x 2 and beach club access. Large rooms with nice views. Jacuzzi was a hit for the family especially with the included bubble bath and bath salts. Food was ok with the best in my opinion being Habb. Breakfast buffet great a lot of options. Kids club was cool and also had outdoor activities like mocktail making. There was also body oil class for adults and other activities. Slow restaurant service especially at palms for lunch. Long lines for nightly buffet not cool with young kids. 45 min wait for room service is fine but not if the food reaches to you cold
- David (9/5): - Excelente servicio Playa rocosa, sin actividades de playa
- 668brittanyj (8/5): Honest Review - Everything was fine. We had a lovely time but probably won’t be back to this location. We were here over the Holiday break and rang in the New Year. There is nothing wrong with this hotel but it just wasn’t what we were expecting. We’ve stay at sister resorts of this property and high expectations but this one seemed to come up short. We’ve stay decided it was trying to be everything to everyone and really just needed to commit to a direction and go with it.
The resort itself - grounds are nice and well taken care of not issues with the overall facilities. We appreciated many of the touches and amenities. The footprint is smaller than most other resorts. We didn’t love the tower layout and prefer something with more sprawling grounds so allow us space to roam around.
Pool - The pool was COLD it spends most of the day in the shade so it was only warm enough for swimming for a small portion of the day. It’s probably fine most of the year but limited our ability to fully enjoy the property.
- Recommendation to hotel - find a way to heat the pool in winter months
Room, we had Ocean front swim out. Our room was lovely. We had a king bed (they were out for two queen rooms) it was spacious and clean. We were able to get a crib for our two year old so we were able to make the one king work. Our balcony was lovely. Our only issue was the balcony pool, was freezing! I’m not sure the balconies ever get sun and the pools there should be heated. It was supposed to be to be a lovely place for our family to play but didn’t get to make the most of it.
- Recommendation to hotel - Heat the balcony pools.
- Recommendation to travelers - swim out not worth the additional $
Food. Restaurants were solid. The reservation system was easy to use, being able to set a time for room service was great. You do have to book your reservations as soon as you land because they book up, especially if you don’t have the luxury of going over to Royale because you have kids. I found it strange that the restaurants were 1/2 full but all said booked in the app. Additionally the only place you can go without a reservation for dinner is Chef Market (the buffet), the food here is fine, the variety is limited, the layout is terrible. Why is everything a circle around the middle grill? Everyone is running into each other and no one really knows what’s going on. The made to order station and no signage until you get up there so it take s longer than it should since people have to learn when the get to the front of the line. Several nights there was a line out the door to get a table. Room service was fine. The offered very basic things. Only issue we had on room service was two times we set a preorder, one the just delivered right away, instead of the set time. The other was 30min past the preorder time which put us in a pinch since we had an outing that day.
- Recommendation to hotel - Buffet flow needs improvement. As does reservation system, if you’re catering to families you need to find a way to ensure the can eat at reasonable times for families. 9pm is too late to be the only reservation available to a family with kids under 5.
Beach. We loved the beach, yes there is an artificial reef and rocks 10ft out but it was calm and shallow and perfect for the kiddos. There was minimal sargassum when we were here.
More inclusive - shared ride from the airport we were told when we checked in would be a 45min wait. After a long day of travel and delays very much a disappointment and rough start. When people provide their flights, feels like this can be planned out a bit better.
Aqua Nick - great day out for the kids. Very manageable size, you do need to stay for the whole day so plan for that. Setting up the ticket and booking and having to go to the Lomas offer and wait in line for something included with your booking felt like an extra hoop. I know they want to upsell you and what not but I fits included just make it included and not something else I have to set up.
Other excursions- our kids we’re too young for most of the so we didn’t do them but again you had to set it up in the Lomas office and that just felt like an unnecessary step.
Evening entertainment- Since it was a holiday week, they weren’t following the normal schedule but really never mentioned it. It was also hard to find the location of where the evening events were. Like disco night was in the bar, but we only knew that because someone mentioned it at the pool. They did host a lovely NYE party when we were there. The had signs all around saying “make your reservation today” on,y after I talked to there different people did I get confirmation that the events was free but you could pay extra to get a table. It felt like a money grab. At the events there were like two tables sold and tons of “reserved vip” areas. My husband stopped at a table to help my daughter with her shoe and we were immediately told we could not be there because we didn’t reserve the table. There was staff asking people to move away from reserved tables all night, tables that no one ever sat at. This was a bit off putting. If you’re going to have an events just have it and let everyone have fun don’t try to squeeze and extra $200 out of people.
Kids club we stopped in to look one day and it seemed fine, since our youngest is two we couldn’t leave both kids there so we didn’t. They do offer babysitting, at a rate of $200MX/ per child, per hour, which very much seemed like a we offer it but don’t want to do it.
So all and all there nothing wrong with this property but based on what we enjoy in a resort will likely try somewhere else next time.
- Elizabeth (5/5): There is a disconnect between the management's ideas and the way they are executed. - The Palms restaurant was a wonderful place to have breakfast and the food was great there. The Indian and Asian cuisine was also great. The more inclusive activities (Nickelodeon water park and catamaran ride) were very fun and a great addition to our vacation. Our concierge lied to us multiple times during our stay and was extremely rude. Thank goodness for the manager who helped us with our issues. The frozen drinks had a soapy aftertaste and the pool was very cold. The activities that were advertised on our first couple of days at the pool never happened. While they ask about allergies at every restaurant, there is not always follow-through with them. At the buffet, they always asked if we had allergies but then we had to find a manager to actually tell us what foods contained the allergens.
- Inocencio (10/5): Dias maravillosos de recreación y descanso - La comida espectacular y las instalaciones del hotel muy buenas No tengo ningún comentario negativo de nuestra visita
- sfeff2 (4/5): Beautiful resort but lacking service. Will not return. - Unfortunately, we will not be returning. While there were some positives, the overall experience fell short due to ongoing service and communication issues.
The resort itself is beautiful and very clean. Although the beach was not ideal for swimming, it was still lovely to look at, and our daughters didn’t mind wading in the water. Access to Bali beds was easy and readily available, which was a nice perk. Most of the waitstaff were friendly and helpful, and while beach drink service was intermittent, we appreciated the effort.
That said, the overall level of service was lacking. The reservation system was difficult to use, and we were not provided with clear instructions on how to access or schedule amenities, dining, or services throughout the resort, which made navigating our stay unnecessarily frustrating.
We stayed in Building 20 and did not see our concierge until 4:00 p.m. on our last day. We were aware that room service could take a long time, so the night before an early dive trip, we placed an order in advance, requesting delivery at 6:30 a.m. When it hadn’t arrived by 6:50, we called and were told it was on the way. We called again at 7:10 and were given the same response. The food finally arrived 20 minutes later—just as we were walking out the door. The resort does not offer to-go packaging, and when we asked how this could be avoided in the future, the response was simply, “I don’t know.”
On the morning of our departure, we had pre-booked a bellman to pick up our luggage at 7:00 a.m., with an 8:00 a.m. taxi scheduled. We planned to eat breakfast once our bags were collected. By 7:15, no one had arrived, and our room phones were not working, so part of our group walked to the front desk. We were told the bellman had already come to our room and that we weren’t there, which was not accurate—we were waiting at the door. By 7:40, no one had still come to assist us, so we ended up pushing our own luggage and struggled to find a cart to reach the front lobby. We received no apology, only attitude.
The food was good and filling, but nothing particularly memorable. Housekeeping was also inconsistent; coffee was not replaced, and clean mugs were not provided. We had to wash our own mugs and search the resort for coffee and replacements.
Overall, while the resort has potential and is visually appealing, the lack of communication and service consistency made our stay disappointing. One last thought, the trip to Maroma beach was well worth it.
- EdmontonFamilyof3 (8/5): Okay, but not great - Generations Riviera Maya — December 19–26, 2025
Travelers: Male 60, Female 58, Female 17
Our family of three spent a week at Generations Riviera Maya over the Christmas period, and while the resort offers several strengths — notably its staff and peaceful atmosphere — it ultimately fell short in areas that matter most to us, particularly food variety and overall value.
We stayed in Building 20 on the main floor, with a swim‑up pool directly off our terrace. The location is quiet and adjacent to the chapel, though it is the furthest walk from the restaurants. The room itself was spacious, well‑laid‑out, and comfortable in terms of size, with two beds (closer to doubles than queens) and a separate seating/sleeping area with its own television. The bathroom was generous, featuring double sinks, a soaker tub, and a frosted‑glass partition for the toilet and shower. Some wear and tear is visible, but nothing unexpected for a resort of this age.
The main drawback was soundproofing — or the lack of it. Footsteps from above, conversations from next door, and hallway traffic were all easily heard. The pillows were filled with small foam pieces and the mattress, while initially fine, became uncomfortably firm by Day 5. Humidity was also noticeable, though adjusting the A/C to 21–23°C helped dry the floors. Housekeeping generally did a good job, though they did miss one day, and the staggered visits from different staff members (sometimes just to sweep) felt disjointed. Room service took 30–60 minutes but was consistently good.
Dining was a mixed experience. Breakfast at Palms was excellent throughout our stay, with attentive service and consistently enjoyable food. The Wine Kitchen was another highlight — we dined there twice, and both meals were outstanding, with the Beef Tenderloin and Beef Rib being particular standouts. Unfortunately, the Chef’s Market buffet was a significant disappointment. Despite many positive reviews, we found the selection extremely limited, repetitive, and poorly labeled. Over seven days, we encountered three Italian nights, one BBQ night (was supposed to be serving Ribs and Chicken Wings, but those were non-existent), one Christmas Eve “theme” night with no new offerings, and one Oriental night. The buffet is small, and staple items repeated daily. Mislabeling was also a concern: a soup marked “Vegetable” was actually seafood‑based, and an unmarked brown stew turned out to contain shrimp — a serious issue for guests with allergies. For us, the Chef’s Market was a 3/10 at best.
The beach area is compact but pleasant, with plenty of daybeds and natural shade from trees. However, the ocean was non-swimmable during our stay due to red‑flag conditions and strong waves that churned the water brown and brought in heavy sargassum. This is, of course, not the resort’s fault, but guests expecting calm turquoise water should adjust their expectations. The pool area was quiet, though it lacks umbrellas, leaving loungers fully exposed to the sun. Bar service around the pool and beach was inconsistent.
Activities for older teens are limited. Generations is clearly designed with younger children in mind, which is perfectly fine as long as families know this in advance. For older teens, Aqua Nick and the Maroma tour are worthwhile alternatives. Mornings begin early, as the groundskeeper’s gas‑powered leaf blower reliably starts around 8 a.m.
Staff were consistently warm, professional, and eager to help. Andres, Louis (spelling), and Rene from Concierge were exceptional. Servers and bartenders throughout the resort were friendly and attentive. The Sling Bar is worth a visit for cocktails. Evening entertainment consisted of a DJ for exactly one hour, along with themed nights such as disco and karaoke. Enjoyable, but brief.
The resort is easy to navigate, with elevators available throughout. We did not explore the adults‑only sister properties. In terms of value, our stay was expensive due to a last‑minute change from Jamaica, and the experience did not justify the cost for us. The limited food variety and repetitive menus were the primary reasons we would not return. Guests seeking a quiet, secluded environment may find Generations ideal, but those who enjoy variety — especially in dining — may be disappointed. I cannot comment on the nightly shows as we did not go to any. I believe they are more for the young ones.
Shopping requires a taxi, as the resort is isolated. We took a cab to Playa del Carmen (MXN$1200 return), and the process was smooth, with payment made upon return.
A few practical notes for future guests: Buildings 18 and 19 are closer to the swim‑up bar and have more activity. For ocean views, request floors 2–5, though palm trees may partially obstruct the view. The resort was surprisingly quiet for Christmas week, though it likely becomes busier approaching New Year’s. Try all à la carte restaurants at least once and rely on Palms for breakfast and lunch. Room service offers some of the better food options, including a very good cheeseburger (though under‑salted, like many dishes here). Sunscreen is available for free at a poolside cart but expect high prices in the gift shop.
In summary, Generations offers friendly staff, spacious rooms, and a peaceful environment, but the limited dining options and overall value mean it is not a resort we would choose again.
- B944QYcarolg (8/5): Beautiful resort - We visited Generations Riviera Maya from December 14th-18th for our Anniversary. We have been coming to the Riviera Maya area since 2008 and have stayed at many resorts. This was our first time at a Lomas Resort. There are pros and cons to all of the resorts down there.
Pros: The More Inclusive is a great addition to this resort. It includes several different excursions, all free of charge. We chose to go see Aktun Chen which was an awesome experience including a walking cave tour with the history of the area and then ended with an amazing swim in an underground river with turquoise water. We also did the Maroma Beach excursion which was an amazing beach and catamaran snorkeling tour with a full brunch with over 20 food stations and drinks included. Lomas offers free transportation to these excursions as well. Next would be the rooms and they are huge. We were in room 18361 which was located in building 18 and had an awesome 3rd floor swim out right off the balcony.
The infinity pool is oceanfront and runs the full length of the buildings and was extremely clean. The food was hit a miss for us. Chef market was ok for a buffet, not great and considering this was a family resort they had very few food options for kids which included hot dogs, French fries, and some rough chicken fingers. Didn’t bother us much since our kids weren’t traveling with us but the majority of the other resorts we have stayed at had tons of options for kids. That being said they had tons of candy, cotton candy, and ice cream for the kiddos. Our favorite restaurants were The Palms and I want to mention that Israel was such a gift to this resort and to us as he had a great personality and greeted us with a warm smile and great conversation every day we were there. We also liked D’atalia and Santa Fe whip were both located next door at Casitas Royals which is adults only. We only went to the adults only side for nightly entertainment and the Burlesque and Dreams shows were amazing! The pools were all great as well. We want to really shout out Andres, Paul, Gerardo, and Israel who offered excellent service anytime needed and rivaled any resort we have stayed at. They checked in daily to see if we needed anything and surprised us with a special surprise for our Anniversary which was a huge gesture. The bars and bartenders were all exceptional as well with good top shelf liquor offered. The grounds on this resort were probably nicer than most we have stayed at and very well kept. The landscaping was exceptional.
Cons: For us the biggest con was the shuttle service, especially at night after the late night shows it was almost impossible to catch a ride which meant you would have to walk almost a mile to get back to Generations which is tough for older people and honestly dangerous for younger women walking alone after drinking. We aren’t really beach people but the beach was real rocky and almost not swimmable except for the first 10-15 ft. A lot of reviews mention the huge concrete structures spread out in the water which kind of resembled Normandy during WW2. These didn’t bother us much as we don’t get in the beach. I will also mention that the water was still very beautiful everyday we were there and from the room balcony you couldn’t even see the concrete
structures (artificial reef).
Overall, we would stay here again although for the price there are definitely better options in the area. As always, the workers are what makes these resorts.

- pierrecV3091JC (10/5): Beautiful ocean view ! - Stayed at Generations mid November 2025. Our first time at this resort, travelled with my wife, both in our 50's. Many people wondered why we went there instead of the El Dorado (adult only) given we didn't bring any kids. Easy answer is the El Dorado was booked. However, after our stay, and visiting the El Dorado during the week, we are happy with our choice. Yes it is more family oriented, but kids like the pool, and we like the beach. Honestly, we had a bali bed every day without concern or going to the beach early. It's not the best beach by many people's standards; but the beds are close to the water, and we typically don't go swimming. El Dorado has much nicer beaches.
We did enjoy our swim out, 3rd level, beautiful view of the ocean (above the tree line) , sun early mornings, coffee on our patio.
We took full advantage of being able to go to El Dorado restaurants, but some at Generations are not to miss. We enjoyed lunch by the water at the Palms and sushi at the Jade (one of our favorites). The Italian restaurant was hard to book, but rightly so, it was delicious food.
Shout out to our personalize butler, Adrianne, for her assistance early on to get us sorted with reservations and outing.
We did take the 90 min sales tour for membership, which gave us a full massage and hydrotherapy spa. Very worth it. As well, because I asked Adrianne about the private dinner, she added that evening free of charge because we did the sale meeting. FYI, 90 minutes turned in to 3 hours, we didn't buy a membership, but they made it very attractive. We don't travel enough to justify a membership and like to try different locations.
I found the full value of this trip was worth the cost!
Cheers
- y2says (4/5): Would Not Go Back! - I would not come back even if it was free. Now that we have been to a number of all-inclusive resorts these past few years, I can honestly say this one is the worst one of them all. We're here for my niece's wedding and because we have kids, we stayed at Generations while those without kids stayed at El Durado. First off, is it hard to provide water at the lobby while checking in? It would be nice after a long flight. Check in did not take long and we were impressed with the size of the room. We had two queen beds and there was another space with a sofa and another TV. The balcony was spacious overlooking the beach.
Here's where it goes bad. After settling in, we went to buffet to finally get some food and there were no food. How can you be out of food? They told us that there will be more coming. Not only that, the buffet was small and didn't not have a lot of options. The quality of food was also horrible. Things were dry and overcooked.
Lets talk about food service at the beach and pool. Well...there isn't any! Again...never experienced this before and this is one of the perks of being at any resort. We had to pack up and go to the restaurants to have lunch. There was no food stations where you can grab food and take back to your area. One day we went to the buffet for lunch and it was closed, so we tried the Palms and they were packed and he didn't even tell us the wait time. We decided to go back to our room and order room service (btw...it takes about an hour for your food to arrive). Sitting in our hotel room waiting for food is not what we expected.
The beach...not the white sand beaches that you'll find in Cancun. Bring your water shoes as you'll walk on rocks and sea shells. Since it was the slow season, the cabanas were available at no charge.
You're basically stuck at the resort as it isn't really walking distance to anything. It's at least a 15 minute car ride to town and 30 minutes from the airport.
There are some positives about the resort. The kid's play area was nice and plenty of things for them to do. Most of the staff were nice. Julian, one of the shuttle drivers was never nice and helpful. One of the waitress at the buffet as well. We went to one of the nightly entertainment and it was in a small theater. The performance was entertaining. I did feel bad though because if it wasn't for our group, there may only be four people in the audience.
The best day for us was at the Nickelodeon
Water Park. At least we can eat at the pool and foodbwas actually decent.
Again, we expected a lot more especially when it's at a "5 Star" hotel. Compared to other resorts we've been to, this one ranks the lowest for us. I'm writing this while waiting for our food in our room. Two more days and I cant wait to get back home.
- 321timt (4/5): Not a beach holiday, spoilt by 2000+ concrete blocks in the sea - not shown in the photos! - Really disappointed by the 2000+ blocks on the beach, when we complained they called it an artificial reef, but it is so badly looked after 5 foot high concrete blocks are on the beach. Not the beach holiday with water sports we wanted. Please see the photos
- Relax51087571485 (10/5): Another 10/10 stay - Just came back from yet another incredible week at Generations. We had a couples only trip so we were able to venture into the adults only side as well. This review covers all 3 sides of the resort.
While the weather was a bit cooler and wetter than we expected, we were still far from disappointed.
We have been coming to this resort as well as the casitas and Royale for 11 years. What amazes us the most is the loyal staff. Some have been here 23years like Adal at the Martini bar who if you check in to the Royale side will great you with a smile and a beverage and maybe a story or two.
The food is consistently 5 star. Our best meals included Fuentes which is a culinary treat to say the least. The mashed potatoes were so delicious I think they were laced with heaven. Thank you as always to Eduardo the Somalier and Pablo who we see year after year providing a unique, consistent and quality show.
We did the chefs table at D’Italia which was the best meal we have ever had in our 11 years of coming here and that is saying a lot. Wow!
It would cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars for that meal at home. The wine pairing delivered by the house Somolier Fabiola was extraordinary! The best part was our server Rodrigo who was incredibly professional, kind, sweet and an all around excellent server 10/10!
Every morning we got to smell, hear and feel the sea while enjoying breakfast at Palms. I wish I could have breakfast here everyday for the rest of my life. We were greeted daily by the biggest smile ever from Isreal. He is so genuine and kind and his presence just makes you feel calm and welcomed. Gracias Isreal
We were able to enjoy two spa days, one at Generations and one at Casitas. Both were amazing. Generations is smaller but they have packages for children which is lovely. Thank you so much to Samuel and Stefanie at Casitas spa. We felt like jello after that.
What we love about Generations is that most rooms are swim up, even on the upper levels. We were able to swim in virtually a private pool over looking the ocean every day. Yes there are children but as a couple this did not bother us at all. The kids around were having fun and it was nice to see the families really enjoying themselves. It did not feel overcrowded at any point.
What impresses me about ElDorado is the continuous upkeep. The workers work continuously on keeping the resort looking beautiful. Every day they are out there cleaning, fixing, upgrading, maintaining. It is not bothersome at all. It shows how much this resort invests in its infrastructure. It looks beautiful all the time.
Our favourite restaurants are always Palms, Kampai, D’Italia, Fuentes and wine kitchen. We had one disappointing experience at Jade but that was one chef and one server and really a one off I think.
As members we get some perks which included two of the most incredible butlers ever! We were so lucky to have Ana for a second year and she is the best of the best. Truly. She is so good at what she does. Every time I see her I just want to give her the biggest hug and chat about everything. Her sidekick Gerardo was always available to help and had the sweetest demeanor. He helped us get change for our pesos which was during this time very difficult. I guess they are having some issues with the bank that provide smaller bills. So come prepared with smaller bills in either pesos or USD.
We went to a few shows, but on the Dorado side. We have been to generations shows and they are good for kids. The shows we loved the most at Dorado were Burlesque, Dream show and karaoke. They did have karaoke at Generations which was fun for the kids that came out :)
Huge hello and thank you to Araceli who has worked here for years and is loved by everyone. She is a tiny, tough and efficient worker who will bring your drink order in a flash. Love her!
Thank you to Emiliano ( Emi) casitas concierge who we see every year and who holds a special place in our hearts. He always finds time to come see us for the best chats.
As members we were able to enjoy wine and painting, wine and chocolate and mixology! These perks never get old to us, we love them so much.
There is so much more to say and share but this review is long enough already. In the end, we keep coming back here because it truly is something special for families and couples alike.
If you can go, go! It’s a Gem.
- Paola (10/5): -
- GrandTour58392310872 (2/5): DISGUSTING - DO NOT BOOK. This resort is an example of being lazy. There is ZERO attempt to provide quality. The rooms were DIRTY. The food was disgusting. They do nothing to manage the sargassum (seaweed) or mosquitos that are popular this time of year. Many other resorts will spray for mosquitos and put up barriers to catch the seaweed along with have employees clean up the beach. At generations the beach was so covered with layers of seaweed that the entire resort STUNK of it. Stray cats roaming around. Unfriendly and rude staff. Spend your money elsewhere.
- D5885OWtimothyf (2/5): Unfortunate Experience! - I’ve never had a more frustrating experience at an all inclusive. While walking to our room, we meet the concierge Tony right near the elevators to our rooms. Tony asks about our interest in the Aqua Nick park and if we could take a “90 minute” presentation (it was much longer) we would get a lot of benefits and a tour of the aqua Nick park and associated property. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience!
The day of our “experience”, he joins us on the golf cart to enter the park. He takes us to breakfast at the restaurant. After, then he drags us into his sales office and says his staff we’ll take it from here. We place our bags and wait..
Short presentation, to gauge interest and then left in limbo. And we wait… and wait… and wait…. And there goes our entire day, more waiting in the office rather than the water park…
2pm rolls around we finally get some movement (since 9Am). A presentation in which we have zero interest in. At this point, since 9:00AM, we have had no food, none of the experiences that Tony promised (private slime, lunch @nick bistro (it’s 2pm), and a hungry baby… We never even received a lunch!!!
Tony promised a lunch… didn’t happen!
Tony promised a private slime.. didn’t happen
Tony promised lunch at nick bistro… didn’t happen
Tony promised seeing the pineapple penthouse… never happened .
We even voiced our concerns with him the next day in person! He claimed to have an answer for our disappointment via text. He had no answer, unsurprisingly, for our lackluster experience.
This in my opinion was all untrue(would prefer to use a different word). Tony is the worst and ruined our experience here!
He single handedly ruined my trip given how short we stayed. This was supposed to be the highlight of our stay and instead it was anything but!
- calebw827 (10/5): Highly recommended - We had a great experience. We loved our time. We truly appreciated our personal butlers, Luna and Diego. They made our experience very personal and sweet. We can’t wait to go back!
- Annika (10/5): Great! Will repeat it - People
- Natalie (10/5): - Swim out room was great with young children.
- Jonathan (10/5): - generations maya is a win win
- D7531QSmadisons (10/5): Excellent all around, will be back again! - We went to Generations in February and July of this year and our experiences were awesome! Beautiful setting, excellent service, and a great time had by all. Our butler service from Luiz, Gerardo, and Israel was top notch (my kids especially love Luiz and were excited to see him again on our 2nd trip). Relaxing massages, quality meals, hours of pool and beach time... just wonderful all around. Friends and family who traveled with us agree. We've already booked another trip back!
- O4264DCpaulm (10/5): Excellent service, and great room - The service at Generations was wonderful. I would like to thank my butlers Luna, Diego, and Ervin. They were very responsive, and wonderful to talk to. If one wasn’t available, they told me who would take care of my request. The rooms were well maintained, and I appreciate the evening turn down service. The rooms all have shared pools per wing which was a great way to relax. The resort was very kid friendly with plenty for them the enjoy. It is really not for a quiet adult relaxation due to the number of families, but the private (ish) pool does compensate, and access to the El Dorado adults only pools. You also have access to the El Dorado restaurants next door, but that is adult only. I would do this resort again with my grandkids, nieces and nephews.
- taratM2023RW (10/5): Another Incredible Stay - We visit Generations a couple of times a year, and each visit continues to impress us. Our butler team—Eddie, Luiz, and Diego—are simply exceptional. Their warm, friendly personalities instantly make you feel like part of the family. Eddie’s calm professionalism, Luiz’s easygoing charm, and Diego’s attentive nature—combined with their cheerful, positive attitudes—brighten every moment. They truly go above and beyond to anticipate our needs and make every stay seamless and joyful. Even when our family visits without us, they check in to make sure everyone is well cared for. Their thoughtful touches—like the Luiz Latte, Kryptonite shots, and Little Beers—make every day feel special.
Beach service is top-notch. Guillermo is super friendly, thoughtful, and always one step ahead. He makes sure our balí beds are set up just right, keeps the drinks coming, and checks in throughout the day to make sure we’re comfortable. He really knows how to make you feel spoiled in the best way. José also greets us with a big smile and always offers to grab us anything we need. Both of them go out of their way to make the beach feel like our own little slice of paradise.
Chef Market remains our favorite breakfast spot—Brian and Alex took wonderful care of us, however we still miss Daniel’s cheerful smile and jokes. Dinner at Jade was another standout—Tejeda provided excellent service, and the tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection.
A welcomed upgrade this year was the wristbands that double as room keys—so convenient and a nice touch that enhances the relaxed vibe of the resort.
Generations truly is a gem, but it’s the amazing staff who make it stand out. Our only complaint? Eventually they pick up your bags and send you to the airport—we never want to leave!
- BurlyWoodcrafting (10/5): First time at Generations - This was my first trip to Generations, and it was great! The food was excellent, especially at Habb and Palms. What really made our trip special, though, were our Butlers Luiz and Israel. Not only did they respond quickly to every question or request, they anticipated needs and reached out proactively. We especially loved that they kept a schedule of our reservations in our WhatsApp group. We can’t wait to be back in February!
- patrickcT9089BG (10/5): Butlers Experience - Our Butlers Diego and Imelda were excellent...always attending to all our needs. Would recommend them whole heartedly.
- sarahsC1322XE (10/5): The butlers were excellent!!! - This was our first time staying at Generations and hands down the best part of our stay was the butlers!! Diego and Imelda were so fun and helpful. They made our stay so comfortable and enjoyable.
- albertaC2393ZR (10/5): A Fun Filled Family Vacation at an Unforgettable All Inclusive Resort - If you’re looking for a family vacation that’s equal parts fun, relaxing, and heartwarming, look no further than this incredible all inclusive resort! Our family of four just returned from a fantastic 6-day stay, and we can’t stop raving about the experience.
From the moment we arrived, the staff’s warm smiles and genuine hospitality made us feel like we were coming home. The entire team went above and beyond but a special shoutout goes to our amazing concierge butler team Luiz, Israel and Primo who quickly became like family. Their thoughtful recommendations and seamless planning made every day more productive, enjoyable, and stress free. They truly elevated our trip to unforgettable heights!
Each morning, we dove into the included activities, which were perfect for keeping everyone entertained. The four tours we tried were highlights: the Nickelodeon water park had the kids and adults! splashing with joy, the catamaran tour offered stunning views and a relaxing vibe and the adventurous cave adventure was an exciting thrill for the whole family. There’s something for everyone, and the variety kept our days packed with fun.
Dinnertime was a treat in itself, with four incredible restaurants to choose from. We loved Habb for its vibrant flavors, Wine Kitchen for its cozy elegance and Jade, which stole our hearts with its out of this world sushi hands down our favorite! After dinner we’d head to the nightly 8:30 PM shows, which were the perfect way to cap off each day with laughter and entertainment.
This resort is a gem an all-in-one paradise that’s just the right size with exceptional staff and endless activities to keep families smiling.
We’re already planning our return trip to visit our new “family” members, Luiz, Israel, and Primo.
If you’re dreaming of a caring, fun-filled getaway that everyone will love, this resort is the place to go.
Highly recommend!
- meganhW8872AR (10/5): Another memorable vacation! - My son and I came for our annual trip to Mexico and we had a wonderful time! Our room was clean and comfortable, the pool was the perfect temperature, and the food was amazing as usual.
The sargassum was always there but there were crews cleaning it up as best they could. Unfortunately Mother Nature is winning this year but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the rest of the resort.
We had a mother son spa day with relaxing massages and pedicures. We both left super relaxed.
The restaurants were also great and I appreciate that they now have a dinner buffet most nights. Our favourite is still Wine Kitchen but Jade and Haab were also excellent as usual. Lunch at Palms is always a great experience. I love the Baha fish tacos and you can’t beat being next to the ocean. Chef Market delivered solid breakfasts and lunches and was super convenient for us.
Full disclosure- I’m an Exotic member so I received some extra benefits as per our contract. Our butlers Eddie and Luna were incredible! They were so responsive and thoughtful. If we had even the slightest concern they took care of it right away. We had Eddie last year too and were happy to see him again. I love that I see the same great staff every visit.
- mckinzies2024 (10/5): Great vacation destination! - This is a great vacation for families! All of the workers are phenomenal, but we have especially loved Luiz and Gerardo as our butlers, so much so that I would ask for them if I return on my own. Aqua Nick is so fun for all ages, and they have other great excursions too. The spa is enjoyable and the food is good, though I'd recommend making reservations when possible. Everything is clean and comfortable, and there is always someone to help if you need. Highly recommend!
- merriman33 (10/5): 5 star experience - My family and I just returned from a 5-day, 4-night stay at Generations Riviera Maya, and it was truly one of the most enjoyable and relaxing vacations we’ve had. The resort is absolutely beautiful—lush grounds, clean surroundings, and a peaceful, tropical atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind.
The dining options were excellent. There was something for everyone, whether we were craving something upscale or more laid-back. Each meal was not only delicious but also thoughtfully prepared and presented. The staff in every restaurant made us feel welcome and taken care of.
What really stood out, though, was the incredible service we received from our concierge butlers, Luiz and Israel. They were helpful from the moment we arrived—always checking in to make sure everything was perfect and taking care of the little things that made a big difference. They handled our dinner reservations, helped us stay organized, and even added special touches that made our stay feel extra personal. Their attention to detail and warm personalities made us feel truly valued.
If you’re considering a family-friendly luxury resort in Mexico, I highly recommend Generations Riviera Maya. We’re already talking about when we can go back.
- V6352JSmichelles (10/5): A+ service! - We had such an amazing trip with family. Our butlers, Gerardo and Luiz, were instrumental in making our stay special. They helped to arrange our meals and excursions which allowed us to relax and enjoy our time together. We would highly recommend generations for everyone!
- X5050KQlunam (10/5): Second home! - Wonderful time at Generations.
Can't say enough about the kindness of the staff.
All of them treat you so well.
Luna and Eddie were so professional, handle our agenda to do dinners reservations, spa services, tours and they make sure we will be on time every day. Thanks so much for this. Butlers made our stay unforgettable!
Gerardo and Israel help the rest of the family and they were so helpful, thank so much guys.
- paigec801 (10/5): It was fantastic we love generations and our butlers- Luna and Ervin - We always love going to generations they do such a wonderful job the staff is amazing and everyone there is so helpful we love our butlers Luna and Ervin. They were able to anticipate our every everyone in every need and made this vacation that much better Irby at the swim bar as a family favorite and we love him as well overall the vacation was amazing
- ktinomaha (10/5): Luiz and Luna - the two best consierge we have ever had - Luiz and Luna both made our stay absolutely wonderful! We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and Luiz surprised us with heart shaped flower petals on the bed one evening when we got back to our room. He also went out of his way to get us dinner reservations one night when we were delayed returning to the resort after an excursion. Luna was so thoughtful and caring when she found out I wasn’t feeling well after the catamaran cruise. She kept checking on me and bringing me whatever I needed until I felt better! These two deserve raises. They are excellent at making guests feel not just welcome but like family! We can’t thank them enough for everything they did to make our 25 th wedding anniversary so special!!!
- angel (10/5): - El acceso a aquanick Que no pude reservar restaurante
- rikka029 (10/5): Me quedé con ganas de disfrutarlo más! - Todo estuvo espectacular! Quedarme poco tiempo, la próxima iré más días!
- howardm570 (10/5): Great Family reunion - We had a wonderful experience, the 3 ladies that helped me check in at the Exotic members desk with the Family reunion group of 10 rooms were magical. 1 of the 10 rooms had passport issues and did not arrive. There was an issue with the type of rooms we had booked. I was told many times on the phone with reservations that we had a block of 10 rooms, 5 presidential with my benefits and 5 non presidential without benefits, The 10 rooms were to have a privacy slide between the king bed and the sofa. Glad we came 1 day before the rest of the family to find out the rooms did not have any privacy sliding doors
The ladies went to work with a manager on duty and magically upgraded us to 1 bedroom suites. We were given to Pablo and Geraldo the butlers who also created magic for the whole group. My only negative was that Generations really does not have any swimming area in the ocean or lagoon.
- Aimee (10/5): - Incredible family experience
- mariaeY7818CI (10/5): Vacation bliss - We just returned from a relaxing weeklongstay at Generations resort Riviera Maya. My two kids and I stayed in a swim up suite, kept neat and clean by Elizabeth. We loved waking up to the swaying palm trees, and dipping into the pool with a perfect temperature.
The staff were very welcoming. Our Butlers José Luis and Imelda went above and beyond to make us feel at home. In the morning, everyone who served us at the Market buffet impressed us with their attentive service. They would even remember a drink preference the following day. We also loved seeing Israel at Palms, who took every opportunity to make us feel comfortable. The chef at Palms also did a wonderful job. Another chef and team that really stood out was Marco, Julio and Bradio who made and served the chef’s table at the wine bar. This was such an amazing meal that we can’t stop thinking about with each course carefully crafted. Irene and Nancy at the spa, treated my brother and I to incredibly relaxing massages and nail treatments.
It was the staff that made this trip extra memorable. We look forward to going back one day!
- 810jacquea (10/5): Great family resort, even for those with preteens/teens! - Beautiful resort. Great excursions offered with the more inclusive package. Food was great. Employees were kind and friendly! We had the BEST butlers, Luna and Eddie! They were amazing and made everything so easy! We plan to go again!
- Z8270YGmiab (10/5): The vacation we didn’t know we needed ❤️ - We just returned from an amazing week at the Generations Riviera Maya. Although there were some minor things that occurred it was outdone by the amazing people that run this beautiful resort.
My husband, 10 yearold daughter and I booked a very last minute trip and got a great deal for a one bedroom swimout room. Likely reason for the good deal was the unfortunate sargassum problem that the resort worked tirelessly on from morning until night. At times you do experience some seaweed smell but it was not often and didn’t take away from the gorgeous resort.
My husband and I in addition to the Generations also had full access at all times to the El dorado Royal and El dorado Royal Casitas, There was a very long boardwalk along the water tying together the 3 resorts. Children were only allowed at generations however.
My husband and I love playing pickleball and they have 3 new courts which we took full advantage of almost every day.
Part of our stay for one week was 2 visits to the Aqua Nick water park which you reserve with the hotel and the shuttle takes you. All food and drinks and included at the Aqua Nick too. It was lots of fun for all. Another excursion that was included though we did not have time was a katamaran outing at Maroma beach but we heard from others that it was great as long as it was a good weather day.
Our daughter absolutely loved the kids club and could not get enough of it. She adored all the girls and we are so grateful to Daniela, Ingrit and Wendy ❤️
Restaurants were wonderful and food was very good. Our favourite lunch place was the Palms. They had a delicious aguachile and a charming waiter named Alex.
We didn’t get a chance to try all the restaurants but I am sure there were more good things to eat.
One thing the Generations was missing was a lobby area to hang out and a coffee shop. I ventured over to el dorado in the morning on my morning walk but others who would just want a coffee would have to go into the buffet.
Due to the sargassum mentioned we could not swim in the ocean but there was no need on our part as we had our swimout from our balcony that we used every day. Over at the el dorado they also had a large salt water pool. Our cleaning lady Reyna did a great job with our room 19371.
There is a website app that you do all your reservations through and stay up to date on activities. The last few days it was not updating activities which was unfortunate as it was easy to miss awesome performances because they weren’t announced. The theatre is a bit hidden but great air conditioned building and we saw 2 performances that were really good.
All in all we came back feeling like we truly had a vacation and what more can you ask for 😊
- O6508DVdanielm (10/5): Paradise.. Family Reunion.. Butlers - I will never forget this week. Seven full days, seven nights of pure pleasure. I was negative going on this family all inclusive family reunion. But read on and let me explain how and why I had the best time of my life. I ain't 30 nor 40 not 50 and over 60. My brother who is younger then me and his beautiful bride have been coming to the Adults Only for years. They took it upon themselves to organize the family Reunion of 10 families with 4 kids.
It starts off at the Cancun airport. Generations arranges transport to the resort of resorts! Lomas Travel took the pain and the negative propaganda away as our transportation guru drove us to the resort past a very secure and safe welcome center. I thought it was BS as the Lomas agents (3) handled our luggage and driver with Kindness, continuous helpfulness. Then the agents did the necessary things upon arrival. With smiles. Real smiles.
Adventures now begin. As we have a BUTLER or BUTLERS at our beckon call. The butler explained things to us. For those like me that have no idea what a Butler is It is someone that handles everything During your stay 24 7 All you have to do is ask And they will do it. We had the best Gerard and Pablo. They were unbelievable. My nephew started a WhatsApp thread with them. They have motorized golf type carts that take you anywhere anytime within reason. Just ask. I'll use Gerard to talk about it. It's all inclusive but they make sure of that. You need more bottles of water a bucket of ice dinner reservations room service more soap bubbles for your room spa, rafts inflated or a simple question booking the water park, making reservations the ride there or early pick up info on the perfect beach swimming with dolphins jet skis a massage reservation. These guys did it all. They are like having your own personal AI representative or Alexa to ask any question possible
Day one everyone arrived at varying times so we enjoyed the pool and then Gerard made us reservations for the restaurant of our choice. Only 17 but a perfect meal. Ambiance and more. So I tell it like it is and it was remarkable but not one or two or three individuals treated you nice but every single person we met whether we were walking to the restaurant or to the pool they all greet you with kind words and a smile. It's crazy. how kind these people or workers are. It's like family.
Day two we hit Nickelodeon Water Park. Gerard and his team arranged our transportation and made sure that we knew what we were doing once we got to the park. The pork was amazing as you can imagine. It happened to be a rainy day and several parts of the family wanted to leave early we commented on the WhatsApp site and Gerard or a team member came to pick us up within 10 minutes. Skipping around we went to the beach one day and some of us in the group decided to do the dolphin experience and everything was arranged by Gerard and his group. No matter where you go you never have to wear a bracelet or show them your card your identification or anything. You were welcomed anywhere at any restaurant at any bar at everything. Our 9-year-old was seen several times at the walk up bar in the pool ordering her slushies.
One day we made reservations for deep sea fishing for six of us and the day before they told us due to weather conditions they would cancel and refund our money.
Our package included one night at a candlelight dinner on the beach under a teepee. Gerard made the reservations picked us up and took us to the adult resort for the dinner was being held. One of our beautiful family members watched our 9 year old as we dined and do I mean we dined. You have your own personal wait staff member that greet you with kindness takes your order bring your drinks your meal Etc. I felt like a king and queen in Paradise and was actually thinking it would be the perfect place to propose. When the meal was over and we wanted to get back to the generations Resort we texted Gerard and he was there within minutes to pick us up! I know someone is thinking how can Gerard be in 73 places at once but if Gerard was not available he would have someone else on his staff pick us up.
I don't want someone to think my review is made up some things do go wrong for example when we checked in our room safe was not working. We contacted Gerard he contacted the generation security staff and within minutes we had someone come to the room to repair or replace the door of the safe to make it work proper.
I probably didn't even need the safe because I felt so safe and secure at this Resort. One night my nephew and I decided to smoke a cigar on the beach around midnight. I know all the negativity and rumors people hear about Mexico but as we're smoking a cigar a security person not once but about three times was walking the beach and stopped us to make sure everything was okay
Again we were at Generations which is a so-called kids Resort not the adult resort next door and every single night they had a show for the children which was 1 hour long which was more for the children and the adults they had dancing they had magicians they had some sort of entertainment whether it's karaoke or something else. During the daytime if you're relaxing by the pool they have someone that makes you your own gelato in front of you they make bracelets they have water polo they have water bingo they have water karaoke they have something for everyone. During the day you can also go to 1 hour cooking classes in the Mexican Asian restaurant I personally made my own shrimp ceviche. I didn't realize how good a cook I was. Trust me I have diarrhea of the mouth right now but I have never been entertained for 7 days and seven nights and every single person was so kind and so caring and so helpful and also the nice part is I hardly ever carried any identification or cash with me. However I made sure when I had breakfast lunch or dinner I would keep some cash to give us tips to the wait staff who treated you like royalty. They would remember you from the day before and greet you like you were there brother. I can go on and on but I'm sure only 1% are going to read this to the end. I personally will be back at this Resort I personally am thinking of getting married at this Resort as a destination all inclusive wedding. I am a Finance math individual and figured out how much I paid and how much I was getting and feel I am indebted to this Resort. The value for your money is amazing incredible and you will never have a vacation like this ever again.
The night before Our checkout Girard and his team arranged for our transportation back to the airport. We had a very early morning flight and Gerard and the butlers don't start until I believe 7:00 a.m. so we had someone from the generations staff meet us at the butler Lounge to check us out of the facility at 5:00 a.m. again the people are incredible we were checked out they handled our luggage from the room to the limo ride everyone always with a smile a buenos dias and hola just kind words. Thank you Gerard and Pablo and every other single person including my brother Howard who arranged this and will always be younger than me
- williamfL167NB (10/5): It's my second time back and they've invited me back 👌 - I came to visit the hotel with high expectations since my last experience had been wonderful. And I'm still absolutely amazed, this time I traveled with my wife.On this visit they opened the Chef Market restaurant more nights which we really liked. We really like the food and it gave us the opportunity to reserve a restaurant and go down for dessert. On this occasion my Butlers were Gerardo and Pablo, They were always one step ahead of what I needed in and out of the room with fun notes and lots of treats, we were very happy talking to both of them, one in the morning and one at night. When someone was off, Israel Diego or José were always there to help us with the same smile. We will definitely be back in a few months to have an amazing time with friends and family. Highly recommended.
- F1281RUkarit (10/5): Summer Vacation - We had a wonderful family vacation at the resort. The food was very good, and the service was consistently attentive! A special shout-out to Luiz and Israel for going above and beyond to make our vacation truly unforgettable. Thank you for making it so special!
- darciob2025 (10/5): Summer vacation! - We had an amazing time at Generations Riviera Maya! Luiz and Israel went above and beyond to ensure our vacation was unforgettable. Their exceptional service and attention to detail truly made the difference. We will definitely be coming back! Thank you so much!
- KarinaTN (10/5): Wonderful Stay at Generations Riviera Maya! - If you are planning a trip to Riviera Maya, Generations Hotel is a great option! The service and food here are truly outstanding.
For breakfast, The Market Chef offers a fantastic buffet with a wide variety of options and the view is simply beautiful. Our favorite restaurant, though, was definitely the Wine Kitchen. The menu is so impressive that it is hard to choose, everything is absolutely delicious!
A huge highlight of our stay was the exceptional service from our butlers, Luiz and Israel. They were amazing, always going above and beyond to meet our needs and exceed our expectations. Their attention to detail and warm hospitality made our vacation even more special! THANK YOU!
- elrieb2014 (8/5): Great Place to visit with little kids - We spent 6 nights at Generations and had a great time. This is our 4th visit to the property so we've seen how it's changed over the years.
The positives: The butlers were amazing. Diego and Jose Luiz always made sure we had anything we needed, and even had Gerardo help out if they were not available. The butlers do a really good job to make sure you feel welcomed at the property. I have a 7 and 4 year old, and the kids club is a highlight of this property. I wish we had this back home! my kids love it and beg to go back just for the kids club. The ladies that deserve recognition at the Kids club are Wendy, Ingrit, Daniela, and Angie. The rooms were another highlight as always, very roomy and very clean. We also enjoyed the trip to Maroma Beach, that is a must see trip if you stay at this property. Enrique the bellboy gets a shout for being so polite and helpful.
The negatives: The food quality at Jade was not very good (and that's using polite words). I've seen what it used to be, and this is by no means anywhere close to what it used to be. We left without eating our food. Wine Kitchen was nice, but I could tell the food was a step back from what it used to be. Same for Habb, it was nice but a step back from what it used to be.
Being we travel with our kids, these were our only food choices, so note to management - please ensure these restaurants are top notch as these are our only choices for families.
- 162chrysc (10/5): Traveled with family and friends for a destination wedding - We had a wonderful time at Generations Riviera Maya. We traveled with family and friends for a wedding with over 20 people in our group. Our butlers Eddie and Luna were amazing. They made our dinner reservations, suggested activities, assisted with scheduling excursions and coordinated our rides. They checked in with us several times each day to ensure everyone had anything they needed. When we landed in Cancun a Lomas representative met us and arranged our transportation to the resort. When we left after our stay they arranged our transportation to the airport and assisted all of us through the airport check in process and guided us to security. This was so helpful! Generations is very kid friendly, and located right next to the adults only resort which was very convenient for all of us to make a very short walk and meet up for events or dinners.
- Compass20686474533 (10/5): Amazing butlers at Generations - We have been traveling to Mexico for vacation for 25 years and we have stayed at many hotels. We have had some good and some bad experiences but it was an excellent experience at Generations. The 2 different times that we went we had 2 of the most amazing butlers. Diego and Luiz were the best butlers we have ever had. They went above and beyond to take care of us during our stay. They were definitely on top of their game. As for the rest of Generations, it is beautiful, clean, amazing staff and amazing food. We love that it is simple and easy to get around. Also, the pool is amazing and huge, we love the bottom floor because of the swim out, but upstairs are great as well and with a beautiful view. We will definitely be booking at Generations again and again.
- RayNT07 (10/5): The best vacation of my life 😍. - We would like to express our deepest gratitude for all the care and attention we received during our stay. Each of you Eddie, Gerardo, Israel, Luna, Diego, Luiz and Ervin, truly made our experience unforgettable.
Your warmth, dedication, and professionalism stood out in every moment. We are especially thankful for the beautiful anniversary decoration in our room. Every detail was perfect and touched our hearts deeply. It was a gesture we will never forget, and we know it was made even more special by the effort and thoughtfulness each of you put into it.
A special thanks as well to Oscar from Room Service for always bringing our requests on time with a kind smile and excellent attitude.
And of course, heartfelt thanks to the Kids Club team, especially Sharon and Angela, for taking such good care of our son. Knowing he was in such good hands allowed us to relax and enjoy our stay even more.
Thank you all for making this trip so memorable. We truly appreciate everything you did for us.
- gregdW3521RI (10/5): Wonderful service - We had wonderful butlers Luna and Eddie, they didn’t everything that we ask for and went above and beyond what we were expecting
- M3400SRandrewp (10/5): Summer Vacation - My family’s vacation was to Generations Riviera Maya, everything was first class. Diego and Jose Luis helped us out each day of our 7 night stay and were so helpful and treated us so great! My family will be returning soon!
- chrisbK4613JS (10/5): World Class Resort - Eddie and Luna were the best Hosts for the Generations Resort. Anything you requested of them was nothing less than superior service. A professional experience from the arrival to departure. We will be back.
- morganmH3618XL (10/5): Family Vacay - Absolutely amazing family experience. The resort is well designed- the food was amazing and the service was excellent. Luna and Eddie made our kids dreams come true!
- codywX6348UF (10/5): Great place for families! - Awesome experience at the resort, made 10x better by our butlers Eddie and Luna! Our kids had a great time and everything was top notch!
- stacymR5404UA (8/5): A Magical Family Vacation with Just One Word of Caution! - We just got back from Generations Riviera Maya, and honestly — wow. This place is a total gem for families. If you're looking for a resort where both kids and adults feel completely spoiled (in the best way), this is it.
Our boys (7 and 9) were in heaven from the moment we stepped into the lobby and were handed tropical drinks and greeted with warm smiles. Staff learned our names almost instantly and truly made us feel like VIPs — not in a cheesy way, but in a “we genuinely care you’re here” kind of way.
The resort layout is super family-friendly. The pool was the perfect depth for younger swimmers, so our kids could play confidently while we actually relaxed — a vacation miracle. Activities like music trivia, bingo, pool games, life-sized chess, and ping pong tournaments kept us all entertained (or laughing from the sidelines).
And the beach? Don’t even get me started. The Bali beds were my personal happy place — shaded, breezy, and perfect for curling up with a book while the kids dug holes, chased crabs, and built sandcastles nearby.
The EkoKids Club was another standout. Our boys loved it. Games, crafts, silly themed days — they were all in. It gave us the chance to enjoy a quiet beachside lunch or just do absolutely nothing for a bit, knowing they were safe, engaged, and having fun.
But what really made the trip special was the staff. Diego and Jose, our butlers, were absolute angels. Not only did they help plan fun surprises and setups for our family, but they also bent over backward to accommodate our son’s severe dairy allergy. They coordinated with chefs to create amazing meals for him (including custom dairy-free spaghetti Bolognese he asked for again... and again... and they always came through).
And then there was Marta at the pool, who greeted our kids by name every morning and blended smoothies exactly the way they liked them. She was sunshine in human form.
Another unexpected highlight was access to the larger Karisma resort family. We had the best time exploring Aqua Nick waterpark and visiting Bonanza Rescue Horse Ranch — both super fun (and educational!) additions to our trip.
Now, the one reason this review isn’t five stars.
On our second night, I stepped out onto the balcony for some ocean air and came back inside — only to completely wipe out on the tile floor. The brief breeze from the open door caused condensation, and the floor turned slick fast. I hit the ground hard and ended up with a painful bruise that I’m still nursing a week later.
We called the front desk and a manager came by — but the interaction was… not great. She asked if I needed medical help (I didn’t), but the tone was cold and dismissive, more like “checking a box” than genuine concern. No apology. No documentation. No one brought a mat or even acknowledged that a simple warning sign could have prevented it.
For a resort that’s all about multi-generational travel, that felt like a real miss. A slippery tile floor might be annoying for someone my age, but for a grandparent? That could be a serious injury. A simple sign or heads-up would go a long way.
That said — this trip was still incredible. The magic wasn’t in the fancy meals or the beachfront location (though those didn’t hurt) — it was in the way our kids felt seen, included, and completely at ease. It was the small surprises. The smoothie runs. The thoughtful allergy accommodations. The giant chess matches and silly pool games. It was real family time — unplugged and joy-filled.
We left sun-kissed, relaxed, and grateful — and our boys are still talking about “our butlers” and asking when we can go back. And we will go back — next time with non-slip sandals and maybe a beach mat for the room.
NOTE: I cannot help if I sound like AI. I wrote this. Please stop telling me I write like a robot.
- Arely (10/5): - Excelente opción para tener acceso al Aqua nick
- THERESA (10/5): - Had everything we needed for a family vacation with a 2 and 4 year old! They made everything so easy! I wish there were more dining options as the buffet was closed 1 day. And the beachfront hotel closed another day. Everutjing else required reservations and was full!
- Kenneth (10/5): Fun and relaxing - Relaxing and easy Not enough options to eat with kids
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ricardo (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very friendly and value Nothing
- Francisco (6/5): - EL ROOM SERVICE ERA MALISIMO.
- Danielle (8/5): - I really liked the more inclusive package and the Butler’s were amazing
- Talia (4/5): - Not for families. Limited dining options. No snack options, no evening entertainment at the family side.
- gilbert (10/5): - Más variedad en las cenas
- Carlos (10/5): Exceptional - Plan more inclusive Poca disponibilidad para reservar cenas
- dhiren (2/5): - Very poor help desk service and some staff at concierge were really rude .
- Charles (10/5): - The room was amazing with a wonderful view. The staff was extremely nice, personable and cared about our experience. They went above and beyond to ensure my husband and father had a wonderful birthday and stay. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation.
- Minji (8/5): - property was very clean and room was spacious. But having limited access to beach area ( we could not walk much on the beach area with kids since adult side of hotel would not allow kids to walk pass them) There is Casita (adult only hotel) side where beach is cut off with cement, and there are seating areas and hammocks on the beach my kids were not allowed to be on. there was no one at the beach except security personel watching us not to seat on those seats. With extreme windy weather and seaweeds everywhere making ribbon like line in the ocean and sand, we only got to swim in one pool. Going to Nick water park was hassel and we come to Mexico for ocean, not water park anyways. If we would want to go water park, we have alot more bigger one in the state or Bahama. If you have little babies or kids under 5years old who does not need much of adventure, this is the hotel for you. Very well maintained and Clean for sure. Shower water pressure is amazing. However, if you have little bit older kids, probably not a best choice.
- Padmini (4/5): - Property was nice and clean.
- Kelly R (8/5): - It was very clean, everyone was very friendly. The food was great, lots of options for everyone. The only negative was the door handle on our room door was loose, so we had to slam the door for it to latch.
