- ANTONELLA (10/5): Excellent Stunning Property & Stay in Antigua - We enjoyed our stay to the fullest! We love the property! It was a calm oasis in the heart of the town located directly in front of the arch. Perfectly located for access to restaurants and our breakfast each morning with the view of the garden was magical. Beds were so comfy and the rooms were spacious!
- Jakubowski (10/5): Beautiful hotel - We stayed at this hotel for one night while returning from Lake Atitlán before heading to Guatemala City Airport the next day, and we were so happy we found this unique and very friendly place.
The location was perfect, especially for travelers needing a comfortable stop before the airport. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff made us feel at home right away. Everything was clean, peaceful, and charming.
We highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling through Guatemala. We would definitely stay here again! Unique
- Alexander (10/5): Great stay in beautiful hotel - Beautiful setting. Amazing breakfast in the courtyard. Room clean and very comfortable bed/pillows. Great location!
- MFP1981 (10/5): Absolutamente top!!!

- Alexandra (10/5): Wonderful place in the heart of Antigua - My stay at Hotel San Rafael in Antigua, Guatemala was truly wonderful. From the moment I arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and made me feel welcome throughout my entire stay.
The room was beautiful, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect place to relax after exploring the city. Every detail of the hotel reflects charm and elegance, it truly is a little gem.
Breakfast each morning was generous and absolutely delicious, with a variety of fresh and flavorful options that made every day start perfectly.
The location is unbeatable just one minute from the Santa Catalina Arch and less than five minutes from all the main attractions in Antigua. Everything is within easy walking distance, which made my experience even more enjoyable.
I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that I was the first Romanian guest to stay here, which made the experience feel even more special and meaningful to me.
Honestly, I don’t think I could have found a better place to stay. I feel incredibly grateful for this experience, and if I ever return to Antigua, I would definitely choose Hotel San Rafael again without hesitation. Nothing
- JOSE MARIA (9/5): Hotel con mucho encanto y perfecta ubicación - Ubicación, desayuno, amabilidad personal algún ruido del patio a la hora de dormir
- Yilin (10/5): One of the best hotels in Antigua - The hotel is located right at the center of the town, next to some of the most famous attractions. It is very easy to explore the town from the hotel.
The room we selected is extremely spacious and well decorated. The courtyard is also beautiful. The bed is one of the most comfortable ones we have ever slept
We lived in this hotel after the exhausting volcano hike, and it was so refreshing living here! No complaint at all!

- Guadalupe (10/5): Delicioso - Hermoso lugar y súper cómodo Falta clima, pero tiene ventiladores
- Ted (10/5): Ideal place to stay in Antigua. - Beautifully designed with attention to details retaining historical elements. The setting is stunning and provides a peaceful respite from the excitement just outside the doors. Staff is professional and service is top notch. The breakfast service and options were excellent. Drinking water - should provide easy access to filtered water. 2 bottles of water in plastic bottles were provided, which is not adequate or ideal now that we know the harm of plastics exposure. Other places we stayed provided unlimited filtered water.

- IcicleCreek (10/5): Atmopheric hotel in ideal location - We spent our first four nights in Guatemala at the lovely San Rafael Hotel in Antigua, a colonial-era building that was significantly altered over the centuries and recently underwent a major restoration. The property is very atmospheric with a tasty breakfast served in a lovely courtyard, which is candlelit in the evening. The staff were friendly and accommodating, even providing a take-out breakfast on the day we had to meet a driver at 6:00 a.m. for a volcano hike. The location is ideal, just around the corner from the arch and a five-minute walk to the Parque Central and all the activity that happens there.
- Linda (10/5): Like arriving home! - This property is small and a special oasis within the village of Antiqua. Absolutely nothing
- Elida (10/5): Excelente lugar -

- Viks1964 (2/5): 2 star masquerading as 4 star - This hotel is a 2 star masquerading as a four star hotel
The rooms have ants crawling around. They place people starting at 7am right outside your bedroom for breakfast who make sleep impossible. The front desk morning person is terrible and not at all service oriented. The evening gentleman is much better. I must admit that I was swayed by their beautiful website in selecting this hotel but it was a big mistake. It has been an unpleasant experience in an exquisite town.
- V2576LMpatrickb (10/5): Great trip as advertised! Such a friendly, professional and helpful staff who also helped arrange all my tours...can't miss! - As advertised! Such a friendly, professional and helpful staff who also helped arrange all my tours...can't recommend enough!

- Jane (10/5): Beautiful and authentically traditional property in the heart of the city. Excellent service! - This property is beautiful the moment you walk in. Decorated with so many amazing art pieces and furnishings. It's cosy, authentic and stylish.
All the staff were wonderful. Friendly and accommodating, making you feel instantly comfortable. The rooftop was closed for what I was told were repairs. This was part of the reason I chose this hotel as I really wanted a view. I was disappointed I hadn't been notified and I requested to at least view it but they wouldn't allow it
- susanjR5390OG (10/5): Simply the Best - Just around the corner from Arco de Santa Catalina, this wonderful hotel has a few large rooms centered around either the stunning main or smaller courtyards, the first with fountains, the second a water feature. We have stayed in Room 6, in February of 2025, and in Room 5 this December. Each has a sitting area with sofa and chair in front of a working fireplace, with original artwork from Asia, Central America and other locales on the walls and tables, and oriental rugs on the tiled floors. The linens are crisp and fresh daily and the beds topped with comfy duvets. There are adequate plugs for devices, but not necessarily next to the beds. The WIFI is fast and excellent. The bathrooms are fully equipped, and the showers large. Tall ceilings mean a tall shower for those of you over 6’, and there is ample hot water.
Breakfast is served on linen, just outside your door under the covered patio if weather permits, or in the dining room. While there is a breakfast menu, the cheerful kitchen staff will accommodate requests to mix and match, and it’s all delicious. The coffee was wonderful. Security is monitored from the front office with someone watching the cameras focussed on the street and entryway and answer the intercom located within the entrance and in front of the gates. The front office people can arrange whatever is needed - they work with trusted drivers for both short trips in and around town and longer hauls to Lake Atitlan or Guatemala City and the staff will also make restaurant recommendations and reservations.
The staff speak excellent English and comprise the most cheerful, obliging and helpful group we’ve ever, encountered in decades of travel. My husband jokes that if he could, he would pack up the hotel and take it with us everywhere,
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful, tranquil location - Beautiful room in an atmospheric and tranquil colonial building. I loved relaxing by the water features and leafy courtyards. My room was quiet, very comfortable and well appointed. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful (WhatsApping me when my room was ready a little early)l, and the breakfast featured the best hash browns I've ever had! The location is perfect: steps from the Santa Catalina Arch, but the hotel is a peaceful respite away from the hustle and bustle outside. No negatives!
- Srabanti (9/5): -
- Sunil (9/5): Great hotel. Great location - Great rooms
Friendly staff
Fantastic location Breakfast was a rush. Ideally should have taken preorders the previous evening
- Eduard (10/5): Beautiful location to enjoy Antigua. - Beautiful property with excellent decoration and in great location. Breakfast and staff awesome. All wonderful. Maybe a suggestion to have a thermus with coffee before breakfast would be a nice touch.
- exposurebydjk (10/5): A great retreat in the middle of Antigua - Great location, yet it was a quiet retreat despite its proximity to everything including the famous arch. The rooms are large by any standard. I loved the double doors opening up into the interior courtyard (not sure this is the case for all rooms, but many I believe it is). I got to have breakfast just out my door in the interior courtyard and I wish I could have lingered longer.
The price is high for Antigua, but given the size and quality of the rooms, I still think it provides a good value. This hotel in the US would be double or triple this rate.
- David (10/5): A great stay in the heart of Antigua - Great location, yet it was a quiet retreat despite its proximity to everything including the famous arch. The rooms are large by any standard. I loved the double doors opening up into the interior courtyard (not sure this is the case for all rooms, but many I believe it is). I got to have breakfast just out my door in the interior courtyard and I wish I could have lingered longer. Nothing really. The price was higher than most in the area, but I still felt like it provided good value.
- Danielle (9/5): - Beautiful colonial architecture, spacious rooms, friendly staff and incredible breakfast - all in the center of town and a couple minutes walk to major attractions in Antigua. Highly recommend.
- Julio (10/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Great service.best hotel I have ever stayed at - Beautiful setting in a perfect location. So quiet and relaxing. Loved everything
- MARIA LUISA (10/5): - El hotel es hermoso y la ubicación, super buena.
- Ferris (10/5): - Very beautiful property. Our room was large and beautifully appointed. Best location in Antigua. The staff were really helpful. Would highly recommend.
- U9296JVnicoleh (10/5): Breathtaking ! Attention to detail is extraordinary, service above par and Location is very central! - Breathtaking! Extraordinary attention to detail, Service above par. location is central with proximity to great food
- Kemba (10/5): - Gorgeous property. Amazing patio, full of greenery, a water fountain, kumquat trees, beautiful seating areas with stunning furniture. The patio served as a perfect area to eat breakfast every morning and the breakfast was delicious. I even did a whole photo shoot on the patio. The room was stunning and architecturally impressive with beautiful furniture and high ceilings. The staff was lovely and polite. They packed me a take away bag for breakfast for one of my early excursions. They cleaned my room daily. The room did not have AC but with the windows open there is a lovely cross wind that kept the room cool. I would definitely recommend this beautiful place.
- Olivia (9/5): A special retreat in the heart of Antigua - The location, staff, and overall atmosphere of the hotel is beautiful. Our room was a great size too! Difficult not having air conditioning, although 2 fans were provided. Towels weren’t great and it would have been helpful to have more than just 2. I am sure if we had asked we would have gotten them though! Replenishing the vanity kit would also have been great.
- Lisbet (10/5): - Exotic and beautiful! Excellent staff and fabulous breakfast
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Allover0821 (10/5): Went above and beyond - We stayed at San Rafael Hotel when we went to Antigua for my cousin's wedding. So much to say about how pleased we were with our experience there. First of, it is centrally located, walking distance to sights in Antigua and to restaurants and shops. Antigua is busy and can be loud. But as soon as you enter this gate of this property, it's a shield from all the hustle and bustle in the streets. Second, the rooms and property were very clean. The courtyard with the garden and fountain was beautiful and calming. The made-to-order breakfast was delicious and elegantly prepared. Third and the most impressive of all, the staff is amazing. Everyone was professional, friendly, and helpful. One example, when I was trying to wrap a wedding gift, one of the employees spontaneously brought me a roll of tape as the office staff noticed that I was struggling with the roll of tape I bought from a local store. I appreciated the act of kindness.
On our last evening in Antigua, I slipped on a sidewalk while walking in the rain on the way to church. I was transported to Guatemala City hospital urgently due to the severe pain I suffered. Anyway, in my husband's rush in packing our belongings, he left my new pair of Birkenstock sandals. When we called, San Rafael said that they found them, and they helped to get it returned to me. They even took it to the local UPS for shipment.
What impressed me the most was the hotel followed up to make sure that I received my sandals and also to ask how I was doing after my injury. The hotel staff did not have to do this, but acts of kindness like these go a long way in my mind. I wanted to make sure that I, at least, return the favor by making a great review of the hotel.
Folks, STAY HERE when in Antigua. You won't be disappointed.

- lfire82 (10/5): RELAX Y TRANQUILIDAD - Las instalaciones y la comodidad Sin problemas
- Neifre Yoan (10/5): - The place is beautiful, well maintained and very clean, if you’re looking for a place to stay closer to the main attractions here in Antigua Guatemala this is the place, highly recommended!!! Neifre Miami fl.
- Kevin (10/5): - The property and staff were 5 stars. The only thing that was not 5 stars was no A/C. Really not an issue because the temperature was comfortable. Even without a gym, one was within a short walking distance. Also restaurants surround the property.
- Thomas (10/5): - This hotel has the most central location, especially for the price. The room was spacious. Parking is not convenient, even temporarily to unload suitcases.
- Maria (10/5): - Excellent location, walking distance
- Josefa (10/5): Estadía INCREÍBLE - Los jardines son preciosos y el servicio excelente! El desayuno a la carta 10/10
- Janiece (1/5): If you want to be shown disrespect, stay here - Spacious room Terrible administration of the hotel. They damaged a personal item of mine. The manager never even uttered an apology. I am completely disgusted. I have never been treated so poorly before in a “luxury hotel” . I highly recommend you find another hotel to stay in while here in this charming city.
- Natasha (10/5): -
- Olman (10/5): - Great place in the heart of Antigua
- Josué (10/5): - It was like a luxury hotel
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful unique rooms. Wonderful artwork and antiques throughout the hotel. N/A
- Arnaud (10/5): Exceptional -
- LaFaith (10/5): - My daughter and I stayed 4 nights in Room 4. We loved everything about our stay here! The property is gorgeous, the rooms are comfortable and beautiful, the breakfast is amazing, and everyone was so nice, welcoming and helpful! We would surely stay here again.
My only recommendation would be to either have a coffee pot in the rooms or have coffee available throughout the day.
- Fanny (10/5): Worth every penny - Beautiful grounds, caring staff, perfect location! Cannot think of anything
- KevinJFK (10/5): Excellent hotel in central Antigua - The interior and courtyard spaces are impeccably tidy, beautiful, and well decorated. The fountains throughout the hotel provide a wonderful atmosphere. The breakfast in the courtyard is very enjoyable and the room was perfect. The only minor complaint some may have is the lack of air-conditioning in the hot season, but the fan supplied in the room was enough for me and most will not find it a problem at all.
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional -
- Onwukike (8/5): Very good -
- Madison (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the location of this hotel - it was right in the center of town, with everything needed within just a few steps! Even though it was so centrally-located, once you walked into the hotel you were transported into a tranquil oasis. The breakfasts were lovely, and the staff even helped us out with getting an early breakfast on one of the days. We did laundry and it came back same day! Would highly recommend. The room didn't have much airflow, but the included fan helped.
- Sarah (10/5): Perfect boutique hotel, service, and location! - Wow, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel! The room was beautiful, the property itself was wonderfully located, secure, and stunning. The breakfast in the morning was delightful. It was truly a lovely oasis in the perfect location. 10/10 would come back here
- Annette (10/5): - Exquisite Property!! San Rafael is so peaceful and tranquil, yet in the center of all the action! Steps from the Arch and many many dining options! You cannot beat this location! We were coming from the Lake and in order to avoid roadblocks we ended up leaving at 3am and arriving at San Rafael just before 6am. The staff were so helpful in storing our luggage while we explored Antigua! The staff here is wonderful and really make you feel like family! Rooms are beautiful and very clean! The entire property is truly gorgeous! We communicated via What’s App- very easy and responsive. They have filtered water in the kitchen and we refilled our bottles several times a day, plus they include a few bottles of water as well. We will 100% come back next time we are in Antigua!
- Pauline (10/5): Perfect place to stay in this gorgeous city- highly recommend - Absolutely beautiful property with stunning artwork throughout. Gorgeous interior gardens. Exquisite boutique hotel with wonderful ambience in perfect location. Huge bedrooms beautifully detailed. Wonderful range of breakfast delicious options. Highly recommend Nothing
- Alissa (9/5): A great splurge - Exquisite property just adjacent to the famous arch. Breakfast staff were a little less than polite/gracious.
- Estacuy (10/5): I will be back for sure to enjoy again this experience. - It was an amazing experience to stay at San Rafael it was a magical place with a lot of history, great location, beautiful streets around very quiet, l loved the decoration.
Excellent services and very friendly staff. I love everything
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lee (10/5): Antiguan luxury - Full of character, lovely big rooms
Situated around a beautiful courtyard Nothing
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - This was my favorite place in Guatemala! The service was excellent as well as the rooms and courtyard. Breakfast was amazing and included with our stay. I’d 100% stay here again!
- Danielle (8/5): Very good -
- Alexandra (10/5): - Such an amazing place. We would definitely stay here again.
- Kelly (10/5): Loved it so much we had to return for our last night in Guatemala -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gorgeous and quiet spot right in the middle of town!
- Paul (10/5): - The property itself is like an oasis within the city. The appointments, feed, service and style were wonderful. I will stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat. There are only seven rooms. We stayed in suite #7 which had an open air (closeable) to a water feature. The bathroom was top notch with a shower that could work for a 7 foot man. The suite had a beautiful living room with adjoining sleeping area. There is plenty of outside light and chandeliers throughout the suit.
- Irene (10/5): Will Be Back - Breakfast was delicious and location is unbeatable. We enjoyed the space and, overall, it was just an amazing experience.
- brian (10/5): - Fantastic place is every way. Well managed. Beautifully decorated. Great attention to detail. I enjoyed the morning included breakfast, the candles in the public areas in the evening and the real fireplace with wood in the room, lit by the staff in the evening. Amazing all around.
- Teresa (10/5): What a beautiful hotel. I would love to return - Exceptionally beautiful property with wonderful staff. Rom was slightly stuffy.
- Ashma (10/5): Beautiful Hotel! - This is a beautiful hotel with the most beautiful courtyard and rooms. It is very well made. The only minus point is that there is no AC in the rooms. We were here one night (because of this reason) and were offered a fan which worked well for us. But having an AC would definitely have impacted our decision to stay longer. The breakfast setting is beautiful right outside the room surrounding the courtyard. It was an overall beautiful stay!
- Alexandre (8/5): Very good - Location and staff are amazing
- Cesar (10/5): Excellent and quiet place to stay, very centric with excellent accommodations and staff. - Excellent location, even if it was so close to the main tourist area it was very quiet. Large rooms, the courtyard was fantastic. High security gated entry. Very helpful staff. Just nitpicking, an addition of a chest drawer would have helped to store clothes without bending. It's hard for older people to bend. Could have added one or 2 foldable luggage racks. There is no AC in the room but it was not needed during our stay.
- Gerald (10/5): Best of the best - Outstanding shower, bed and restaurant
- Carla (10/5): - The only thing that was annoying was the group of guests that met up with their tour guide every morning and they were very loud. The tour guide was especially loud and it was disturbing to the peacefulness of the property. Other than that we had a very relaxing time
- Emmanuel (10/5): - Cozy, beautiful and relaxing hotel. Nice interior gardens and spacious rooms. Highly convenient to walk around the Antigua area.
- Julie (10/5): - Location was great! Lots of shops and restaurants. Beautiful grounds and rooms! Friendly and helpful staff! Excellent breakfast included.
- Ximena (10/5): - Nice quiet boutique hotel
- Mitzy_Applegate (10/5): Beautiful Property - I stayed two nights in #7.
What's to love:
- Great location, close to church, square, restaurants. Interesting walking in the area, and I recommend dining at Frida's, right around the corner
- Beautiful property. The common areas and sleeping rooms are stunning
- Amazing architectural details. (Check out the light above the tub)
- Made-to-order breakfasts, served in the courtyard
- Gorgeous garden in the courtyard
- Feels very safe
- Strong WiFi
- Clean room. Hot water in the shower. Dark at night. Safe for locking up valuables
- High-quality bath products
Room for improvement:
- Ragtime piano music from the posada on the other side of the wall along the bed. Went on for hours, both days
- Room gets chilly. There's a fireplace, but it needs to be lit by staff, and the wood lasts only an hour
- With the exception of the man who checked me in, the front desk appeared aloof
- CLAUDIO (10/5): - Great stay at Hotel San Rafael, beautiful property
- Susan (10/5): One of the two best hotels we’ve ever stayed in, and we have traveled often and widely. - Powerful shower with lots of hit water. Full menu for breakfast selection - almost anything desired was available. Terrific coffee.
Staff was the most attentive and competent as well as genuinely nice and caring, of any staff of any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. A phenomenal experience.
Small and intimate hotel. Beautiful interior spaces. Wonderful antiques and art. Perfect location. Mattress was a bit lumpy on one side.
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional -
