Guest Reviews
- Thawatchart (10/5): Great ppace to stay in Hermanus - The room vibe makes you feel like home. Separate compartments between living room and bed room. The parking lot is in a secured fence
- Kerem (10/5): - We stayed one night but Anel was incredibly helpful and the accommodation was spotless and comfortable. Would stay again without hesitation. Ty Anel.
- Linda (6/5): Ok. - Pleasant stay but many nicer places in Hermanus. 10 minute walk to town. Owner was rather intense in communications. Parking not easy to get in or out of tho we were lucky and got the one more accessible space. Although spa and free bike rentals mentioned in Hotels.com information there was no sight or mention of either.on site .
- Nicolas (2/5): - This is the worst stay I ever had at any hotel booked through Hotel.com. Let's be clear; this location shouldn't be allowed to be using this service.
Let's start with the positive. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was large, and the bath was much welcome. That said, the bath had no water pressure. I am not sure why the room has two single beds instead of a big bed, but that is what I booked, so no issues there.
The issue is the owner. She is the most intense and unwelcoming hotel owner I ever experience. She requested money from us before we even arriving at the hotel. During checked-in, she commented about other guests 'only' coming by taxi, which we honestly felt uncomfortable with. During our entire stay, she kept contacting us and harassing us left and right. She kept requesting we pay her double what we paid to come to book the hotel on hotel.com.
She made comments about people using this type of website and them taking too big of a commission.
Her electronic gate malfunctioned and closed on my car, doing real damage to the rear door, and she just refused to discuss it.
There is plenty of other great hotels in the region. Avoid this one at all costs.
- Paul (10/5): - lovely guest house and rooms superb
- Beth (10/5): - Close to town - easy to get to shops and restaurants.
- Jay (6/5): winter weekend - the basic layout is not suited to a guest house, and privacy would be quite a problem if it was fully booked ...luckily we were the only guests at the weekend, so it did not bother us. Accommodation is clean, neat and well appointed. Book in time of 14h00 is late and leaves very little time before the day is over in winter....if it is not busy, why not allow guests in earlier ?
- Paul (10/5): Very lovely boutique hotel - This is a great hotel, beautiful rooms with everything one could require. The hotel is just minutes from everywhere and we were more than happy with our stay. The owner is super friendly and welcoming and gave us all the information we needed for a fantastic two nights in Hermanus. We originally booked one night but extended it for a further night. The wine route into hemel and aarde area is absolutely amazing.
- Pieter (10/5): A must stay - Thank you Anel. Staff and place was great
- Clint (8/5): Pleasant stopover - Nice guesthouse just outside the centre. Though on the main road, no traffic noise.
- Arnold (10/5): - Beautifully furnished room. Very spacious. Only problem was that we found the mattress too firm for our ancient bones. Breakfast set up and food lovely. Parking not easy.
- Helen (10/5): - Great guest house. Landlady was very welcoming and helpful. Great ideas for restaurants given. Rooms tastefully decorated. Short walk to main area.
We were really lucky and saw loads of whales from shore and when on a boat trip.
Great stay.
- Cristina (10/5): Great hotel close to the center of town - Had a great time staying at this hotel! Super helpful staff, clean rooms, quiet, safe, and close to the center of town (5-10 minute walk). Great spot for seeing Hermanus and the whales!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but not great for the price. - Had a bit of a hard time as our water was cold initially and the owner didn't believe us for a day or two. We were much happier when the water for our showers became more that room temperature (which was cold!).
- Emily (10/5): - We booked at the last minute as our other plans fell through and it turned out to be amazing! They really went the extra mile and we loved our stay. Can't say enough nice things.
- Manusha (10/5): - Anel the owner is an extremely gracious and her B&B is run extremely professionally. Our stay was extremely comfortable and pleasant.
- Nicol (10/5): Fantastic Hotel in Close Proximity to Town - We arrived after booking only a few hours before as we had decided to do the Garden Route and this was a stop over on our way back.
We had only booked a few hours before but when we arrived, the owner had already received our booking and greated us.
The hotel itself is within a compound area for security behind electric gates so you must call the button first to be let in. We were greated, shown to our room and let be.
The room itself was more than what we had expected... Much more! To say the pictures and reviews don't do this place justice is to say the least!
The room, a beach themed retreat, overlooks the pool area. You have a lounge area with TV and minibar and tea/coffee facilities. Through to the main room where there is the main king size bed and en-suite in a double height space which feels light and airy. Also a treat on our bed on arrival with rusks for our coffee - a perfect little treat to start the stay.
Fantastic rooms, clean and very comfortable! Only down side, you can hear next door very clearly as there appears to be a joining door to both rooms - but this may not be the case in all! Also when you are sat watching TV, you don't have any element of privacy as people are watching you from the poolside and garden area which is very close.
But on the whole, a relaxed, comfortable stay and would most definitely stay again and recommend to all - especially at the price we had!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Guest house- good location for town - Good value guest house if you want to stay near the town centre as only a 10 minute walk away. Breakfast for us was a little disappointing. No choice of cooked food. No fresh fruit or yoghurt and the fresh coffee had run out and nobody had replenished it.
- Sarah (10/5): GREAT STAY AT SIXTEEN HERMANUS - Lovely stay and lovely people . Very handy for town .Breakfast was delicious. Thank you !
Nice touch was fresh milk for tea in the room
This is a great stop over pre flights from Cape Town airport as a very easy drive into town
Loved Hermanus!Even saw a whale despite being out of season!
- Jane (10/5): The owner has very high taste in everything - Never seen a room as beauty as this one. The room is not just excellent but also very beautiful decorations and designs. One gorgeous lady cooked breakfast for us and that was so delicious. very clean room, we had a good time here.
- esther66 (10/5): Second stay - This was our second stay at the guest house. It is excellent value for money. Beautifully decorated and great attention to detail. It is a short walk to the coast and to shops and restaurants.
- ROBERT (10/5): Covenient to restaurants and harbor - A very helpful owner, Anel, helped by booking a whale watching trip
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was very nice and helpful. Also, complimentary bikes included, to discover the area!
- Jerry (6/5): - We arrived later than expected at 7:45 PM and were told that we were supposed to be there by 6:00 PM. The room was paid in advance and we missed the information regarding an expected arrival of no later than 6:00 PM. When the mistake was pointed out we apologized profusely. While our apologies went unacknowledged the proprietor continued to harp on being late. We were finally given keys to our room, grudgingly. The next morning the woman who checked us in was not much more pleasant. Frankly, her attitude made us feel unwelcome and ruined our stop in this lovely city. We would never stay there again although the rooms were lovely.
- cancuncyn (10/5): Just what we wanted - Clean, good sized rooms with comfortable sitting area for reading or watching TV in the evening. An 08 minute walk to town center. Bathtub and shower. We had two rooms, both lovely. We had a very nice stay!
- Ofri (10/5): Clean specious and good location - Very nice and very clean place. Very well decorated. Check in was easy. Secured parking. Walking distance to town center and to the beach. Bed was very comfortable and the room is specious.
Great value for money. We didn't have breakfast as we left very early but it looks good.
- CAROLE (8/5): - Found the room very cold without adequate heating for the colder weather. Several electric sockets and the hairdryer did not work.
Very comfortable room otherwise.
- University of Otago (6/5): - Nice room layout. Location was close to town for dinner or shopping. Breakfasts were excellent - almost every day different and fitting the hostess' goal of "No boring breakfasts".
The only issue is the connecting doors which are in all the rooms - but this is a big issue. Depending on your neighbour this could be no issue or mean no sleep atall. Really impacts badly on what otherwise is really wonderful and well run. I could not recommend because of the noise.
- Amanda (10/5): Fantastic! - Wow. This was a fantastic place and an amazing value. The rooms are very freshly and nicely decorated. Huge ceiling with a skylight makes everythignseem airy. I screamed like a little girl with excitement at the large tub and separate shower. Excellent housekeeping had everything sparkling. Electric blanket and heater kept me warm. Nice size fridge and mini bar. Beautiful view of the pool although it was too cold to swim. Great wifi, secure location and parking. We were able to walk into town. Really it was a perfect stay. We didn't even mind when we had a stormy day as we had such a nice place to relax.
- Hermanus (8/5): - Great stay in Hermanus !
- Jane (8/5): Interesting design and furnishings - Handy for town and coastal pat but a bit noisy from main road traffic.Owner cooked different and imaginative breakfast each day. Unusual design and stylish furnishings.
- Pamela2016 (10/5): Excellent Guest House - This small, friendly & comfortable Guest House is within easy walking distance of the shops & restaurants in Hermanus, & of viewing areas & the cliff path. The beautiful local sandy beaches (Grotto) are a 10/15 minute car ride away, & there are some swimming areas nearer. There is safe parking inside the gated property, & a very welcome (& clean) swimming pool. We were made to feel very much at home, & enjoyed some amazing & interesting breakfasts! January 2016
- Verified traveler (10/5): Enjoyed visiting Hermanus - The breakfast was excellent, enjoyed the lovely fresh fruit. The place is walking distance to town and restaurants which was welcome after a long day travelling
- Graham (10/5): Very nice guest house - Very friendly welcome. Lovely room. Beautifully furnished. Great breakfasts. Easy to walk to the harbour and along the coast. Guest house also has bicycles to borrow. The pool is great with relaxing loungers. Accommodation was even better than expected.
- Bruce (10/5): - We were made very welcome.
- Richard (10/5): Great Rooms - Some complained about the yard. When you provide parking for all your rooms in a South Africa Lot you are bound to have most of it used for parking. They also had a pool that took up a lot of the yard. The Breakfasts were to big for me to finish but they did taste great. The owner is wonderful and helpful. Will stay there again..
- Claus H. (8/5): - Perfect location. Excellent service. Nice room - however the sound insolation of the room is very poor - you can easily hear everything that is going on next door.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - Great stay. Beautiful property. Easy safe walk to restaurants and near cliff walk for whale watching. Nice and warm room in winter.
- David (10/5): Scandinavia in Hermanus - This looks good on the website - it was even better in reality - squeaky clean contemporary Scandanavian style fit out - and electric blankets which were turned on for us ( we were there in August ) wow a rather special touch . Beautiful breakfast with their own special style of omelette - we can highly recommend it
- wendy (10/5): - Excellent room - very clean spacious innovative breakfast would stay there again
- DAL (10/5): - Stayed for 2 days, and would liked to have stayed longer, but no time
left during our visit to SA
- Verified traveler (8/5): An overnight stay in Hermanus - A delightful guesthouse, easy to find, with generously proportioned rooms and good service. A pleasant stay with a good breakfast- would recommend.
- Susan (10/5): A Gem - Great welcome, lovely room and pool and the owner couldn't do enough to sort out a problem with wifi. On the Main Road into Hermanus but not noisy - we had 3 wonderful days here. Great value for money
- Nicholas (10/5): Hermanus bliss - 16 is a wonderful place, from arrival to departure it was easy, Anel is an attentive host and very kind when I managed to take the keys home with with me !!! Stay here it's great- breakfast - momma Mia ;)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful Hermanus Stay - Anel's Guest Lodge on Main is first rate. Centrally located. A few minute walk into town (don't miss the Eatery!) and the famous cliff path. Nice furnishings. Spotless. We recommend it wholeheartedly.
(If you need an extra firm mattress, though, be advised: you won't find it at the Guest Lodge.)
- Marius (10/5): Very neat, well situated guesthouse. - Guesthouse with with friendly staff. The room is spacious and has a very nice sitting area. The bathroom is also very spacious. Within walking distance from the shops and cliff paths. Secure parking is also available. Did not have breakfast so unable to comment on the breakfast.
- John (10/5): Sixteen Guest House Hermanus - The rooms were very comfortable. They were decorated in a contemporary style.
The breakfast was very good. The guest house was approx 5 minutes walk to the waterfront in Hermanus.
- Claire (8/5): Great hotel - would recommend - Beautiful hotel. The only thing I would mention is the breakfast is chosen each day and we were craving a full english and got cheese and mince on toast! Having said that there were toast and other options available. Beautiful hotel and great location.
- southernglobetrekker (8/5): Very clean and tidy, just a tad noisy - The owner, Anel, is lovely and keeps a very clean and tidy guesthouse and is also helpful with tips of things to do around town or restaurants to check out. The rooms are very serene and nicely decorated in a basic beach style with a Greek twist. The rooms overlook the pool and have a lounge area and large bathroom with big tub with a sky light. The location is superb, being within easy walking distance to restaurants etc. The only downside is some noise. We had a room with a connecting door to another, and all the sounds of one room flow into the next - every word - and the water flowing through pipes also makes some noise through the night. Eventually I got to sleep. I'm an extremely light sleeper though, so I doubt these small things would affect most people. Even still, next time I'm in Hermanus I'd like to stay here again and would recommend it to others.
- Brenda (8/5): Quaint guesthouse close to all the shops - Anel was an excellent hostess from the start. Very accommodating and offered us a superb breakfast. Guesthouse facility was remarkable.
- Wendy (8/5): Calm atmosphere, comfortable distance from town. - Breakfast presentation very good and fresh. Pity the internet was down for our 4 night stay, but that was out of the owner's control. Thought that might have attracted a small discount.
