- Amanda (10/5): Absolutely loved staying here with my family of five. - Great facility and perfect for an authentic experience for my family in Kapan. Loved the ryokan, the yukata and the breakfast. One of our best stays in Kyoto. Definitely would come again and stay here more days! Our room smelled like boiled cabbage. I think it came from the restaurant. Our other room was fine.
- Ami (10/5): Great stay for our family of 4 to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. - Traditional and comfy

- SANDY (8/5): - The staff was great. Kimura-san gave us great recommendations for places to eat and drink.
Traditional japanese breakfast was filling and beautifully presented.
The onsen was very hot. Good for a quick soak but I would say it is difficult to comfortably stay in the water for a long period of time. Personally I do not like sleeping on the floor and the futons and pillows were thin so it was not comfortable. But that is how ryokans are, so you just have to anticipate that.
- Andrea (10/5): Traditional experience with friendly staff and an onsen. - The room was spacious and traditional. I slept well. Everything was very clean. The onsen was lovely. I loved it all.
- JHE WUN (7/5): 房間很舒適,櫃檯服務態度也很好,唯一小缺點就是房間沒有辦法煮熱水,需要跑到公共空間去。 - 房間很大,很舒適。 房內設備比較少,如果要泡東西,就要跑到樓下公共空間去。
- Francesca (9/5): Fantastic stay in Kyoto
Mi - The location near the station but in front of the big temple was really nice. The traditional room was quite spacious and bright. Dinner was delicious and abundant, and they were able to accommodate our food intolerances.
The room was quiet.
The common bath was also very nice The traditional pillows were a bit too high for European standards, but we were able to accomodate using others.
- Timothy (10/5): Kyoto has so much history to explore and is incredibly beautiful!! - The staff were friendly and helpful and Nishi Hongwanji temple could be seen across the street from our room!! It was beautiful. Being from the States, I found the pillows to be a little hard, but that was no issue at all being in such a beautiful and wonderous city!

- David Roberto (7/5): Great location - Yes in general, it is a little old, but is well located and the staff is very helpful and polite. The bathroom was a little dusty on the first day we arrive. In the second, it was better.
- Agata (10/5): -
- Cindy (9/5): Excellent Ryokan, will recommend/book again - bathing facility; the temple across the road; friendly staffs; roomy suite. Small and dated hallway

- Adam (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (6/5): We had a good stay. It was a neat experience! - Overall we had a good stay here. When we checked in, the young lady at the front desk didn't seem to know a lot of information. We were brought to our room, and that was about it. We'd never stayed in ryokan before and were looking for an authentic experience, so we were kinda left to figure it out on our own. We didn't know how to put on the yukatas, so we had to return to the lobby to grab the belts that go with it. The onsen was nice, and when we late late in the evening it was empty, so each of us had our own private onsen. That was fun! We think this place feels a little old and maybe needs some updating/refreshing.
- Olga (8/5): Very good - Staff
Size of room
Room bath
Location Drain smell from toilet
- Lorraine (9/5): Great ryokan with Japanese style room and very nice public bath in interesting local area. - Lovely spacious Japanese style room in older style ryokan. Very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great public bath area - clean, spacious and perfect temperature- hot but not too hot!
15 min walk to Kyoto train station. Quiet and interesting neighbourhood just a few streets away. Opposite a significant Kyoto temple. Unfortunately we weren’t able to order breakfast as we hadn’t done so in advance - recommend confirming this at time of booking if wanted.
- Lauren (10/5): Traditional experience in kyoto - We loved how traditional it was and the location was great too I think you have to be back in the hotel by 10pm
- Dionne (2/5): Uncomfortable sleep… - Wardrobes for bags
Large space
Bathroom was clean & nice I’ve stayed at other Ryokans sleeping in the floor and the beds here were so hard and uncomfortable in comparison. The pillows were hard grains and too big with no option for lower pillows… I understand it’s a cultural experience but thicker mats would be appreciated given other ryokans are able to provide thicker sleeping mats.
Cleaning staff also knocked and opened our door 1.1/4 hours prior to check in time when I was naked and unable to answer… I don’t know why they did that as they did not speak English and couldn’t answer my young daughter.
Late check in at 4pm is also very inconvenient
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional - Full traditional japanese experience!! The hot spring also was incredibile and a must to do after an active day! Nothing
- Ariana (7/5): Decent price for a ryokan experience but I would look for a hotel on a quieter street - Nice traditional ryokan experience It is located on a very busy traffic-filled street so it was very noisy especially at night. Also the staff came in to make beds even though we put up a do not disturb sign
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anyuken (7/5): Authentic Kyoto experience, but not for everyone - It was an interesting and exciting experience - staying in a ryokan: you are given a traditional attire, can visit the bath for extensive amounts of time, and generally the building (with tatami and sliding doors) and the neighbourhood (there are old temple just across the street and Buddhism museum next door) allows you to have most authentic Kyoto experience. I have to be honest: if you are very sensitive to smells, like I am, this hotel is not for you, unfortunately. Our room had a deep smell of seeweed (idk how else to describe it) and the WC didn't smell good at all, although I wouldn't say it was dirty. Just a pretty old building with poor ventilation. Unfortulately, this issue made my stay quite uncomfortable. I still put 7 out of 10 to this hotel, due to very attentive and friendly staff and all the things mentioned above.
- Henry (2/5): Very poor - Stains on walls, hair in bedding (not my own), no conditioner in onsen, not catered for a tall person, unhelpful staff; complimentary tea provided but only occasionally hot water provided with it. Had to return key every time you left. No guests allowed and they locked entry doors to the ryokan after 10:30pm. Wouldn’t recommend staying here.
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kriegshauser (7/5): Good -
- Maree (6/5): Ok for a nights stay - was ok for a one night stay to experience a ryokan, they went into our room when we popped out for dinner as we noticed our teacups were put away but no more teabags left. i found this intrusive and unessary as we only arrived hours prior.
- Lingzi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tyler (10/5): It was a great experience and I would stay here again - It was so comfortable and the view was beautiful
- Simon (6/5): Pleasant - It's a traditional ryokan. Nice having that experience.
Spacious room. The facilities are old. Could use investment in remodeling.
No matter how many times the janitor cleaned the bathroom in our room it still smelled bad, like a sewer.
A bit far from the train station, 15 min walk.
- Sara (8/5): Traditional japanese room! - The room was beautiful and big: a traditional japanese bedroom and we slept in futons which were quite comfortable. The free public bath was very nice, clean and relaxing! The toilet smelled like pee, we believe it was due to the old pipes but it never stopped smelling for the whole stay.
Also, the pillows were too hard.
- Aarushi (10/5): Exceptional - The Onsen was fantastic
- Maria (9/5): Traditional ryokan with lovely staff. - Great to experience ttraditional japanese lodgings and baths. Thank you for giving is information on the lion festival. The toilet facilities could so with upgrading.
- Emma (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (9/5): Superb - This was a lovely place to stay for a traditional ryokan experience, sleeping on tatami mats, drinking green tea and visiting the ryokan. The staff were very friendly and the ryokan was very clean.
- Haiying (8/5): Very good -
- Amir (7/5): Good -
- Nelly (7/5): Worth trying ! - Very typical, bath is good to relax !! Not very comfy so it’s good for 1 night.
- Jessica (5/5): Passable -
- Soner (8/5): Thank you - Good location..
Polite staff..
Having Japanese tea in the room is so nice..
Room is big and with good view Room needs some renovation, dirty walls and some old furniture do not give a good sense of Ryokan style accommodation..
We just stayed one night , so it was not a big deal for us..
Paid coffee in the lobby is not good taste
- Kanwardeep (7/5): Good - The place was clean and comfortable As per the price it is costly. The location is little far
away from the stores.
- Stephen (9/5): Warm, welcoming and comfortable - Location and hospitality of staff The duration of stay .. a 4pm checkin and 10am checkout the following morning hardly allows any time to take in and enjoy the facilities, especially if we have site seeing on our itinerary as well on same day.
- Quincy (10/5): It was an amazing stay and I will definitely be back! - The stay was amazing even though we were only there for 2 nights. We wish we could’ve stayed longer and will most definitely be back! They put your name on a board in the front entrance to welcome you. The staff is amazing! I think he’s the manager and he was so helpful with everything! Our bags were already in our room because we had them delivered. They took us to our room which I thought was amazing. I really wanted to use the onsen but I didn’t have the time. It was very spacious which is amazing because at the time we had a lot of luggage already. It was a Japanese style room and I thought it was great. Location is a bit far from bus stops and convenient stores but it’s ok. It was an amazing stay! Nothing! Was amazing!
