Guest Reviews
- Sanjay (10/5): - Great property and great host. The only thing that was lacking was the poor internet connection and lighting in the wash basin.
- Josanne (10/5): - the only problem i had was trying to carry my luggage because to the cottages since vehicles cant go there.EVERYTHING ELSE WAS AMAZING
- Shane (10/5): Temple like vibe - Loved this place. Rooftop breakfast was homemade and amazing. Staff were friendly. Whole place is quiet and has a temple chill feel about it. Cannot recommend it highly enough. It's off the street a bit so don't bring heavy luggage.
- Chad (10/5): - Great location, beautiful place, comfortable, relaxing and very welcoming. Away from the main road but still within walking distance to restaurants and shops.
Great breakfast and view from the top floor.
- loretta (2/5): - Not clean, we actually changed hotels and lost most of our booking by doing so. Regardless it was absolutely worth it! There were red ants in the room, the bed was not sanitary, the room smelled damp and old. The bathroom was in very poor condition and overall the room definitely did not match the images shown or the booking we made. We stayed 2 min away and the room was extremely clean and sanitary and same price range. Sad to see as all other places we stayed in the area were clean and well kept. Beautiful building but in poor condition and dirty.
- Patricia (10/5): - This is a beautiful property tucked away in the rice fields. Even with being a walk off the Main Street there is a nice restaurant within 1 minute walking. The staff is very good. Breakfast was nice up on top with a view. Definitely a good place for a low cost.
- Darin (10/5): - What a wonderful family run property to stay at. Each room is a work of art. The grounds are maintained extremely well. It feels like an escape from the city in the middle of the city. Bery peaceful and quiet. Know that you can only get there by foot or motor scooter. Cars will have to drop you off a little ways away.
- farshid (6/5): - Good value for money
Very good location. Walkable to the Main Street
- Joshua (10/5): - Very nice hotel, it's in a really great spot off the main street so it's quiet but it's also still close enough to easily get to the main street in Ubud. It's clean, the staff are very helpful and it came with a free breakfast! Would definitely stay here again.
- Amber (10/5): - Hibiscus Cottages offered a quiet escape from the busyness of downtown Ubud, but it is just a short walk away. It is a value accommodation, so I recommend bringing your own towel. The sunrise view at the open breakfast area was amazing and overlooks the traditional architecture in a peaceful setting. The free breakfast was good with a very friendly cook. One thing to note is that it is a bit of an uneven walk from the car access road, so don’t plan on bringing a bunch of luggage. The character of the traditional Balinese style made up for any shortcomings.
- Mohamad (10/5): - Great place
- Shammah (10/5): - I loved staying here at hibiscus cottages - I ended up extending my stay because I was enjoying it so much. As a solo female traveller - it felt super safe. Would definitely stay here again ☺️
- Michael (10/5): - Hibiscus Cottages is a great place to stay in Ubud city center. It is very quiet and close to all city center attractions including market area, Ubud Palace and all shops and restaurants. Breakfast on roof top is excellent with amazing view. Also, all tourist tour reservations and bike rentals are available at the hotel. Staff is very friendly and place is very clean. We will definitely come back to stay in Hibiscus Cottages again.
- Petra (10/5): - Lovely clean room with great (rooftop) breakfast service - thank you!!
- Manuel (10/5): - Staff were just honestly so nice and super helpful in any question we had during our stay. Exterior design of rooms super nice and great atmosphere all around. Plus the beautiful view on rooftop while enjoying fresh cooked breakfast
- Carey (8/5): - The staff is super friendly and helpful. They make a great pancake. I loved that it was set back into the neighborhood of Ubud so it's quiet. Great for a simple easy get away.
- Andrew Douglas (10/5): - This was a fantastic place to stay off the main path yet central to everything in Ubud. The rooms were clean, quiet cool, comfortable and well kept by staff. Daily breakfast was a treat along with the views from the rooftop. We stayed for eleven days here and cannot recommend it enough. The location (off Jl Bilsma) was exceptional and the Warung Gauri (a hidden gem of a restaurant) was literally at the end of the pathway. If you needed anything, wanted to go anywhere, or had questions to ask, the staff at the Hibiscus Cottages were kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and responsive. We'd absolutely stay there again
- RONY (10/5): Great value for your money - Definitely, a great value property is located within a few blocks from the main street in Town. The staff was very attentive, the rooms were well-maintained and the style of the property was fantastic. Complementary breakfast was very tasty.
- Emiliano (10/5): - Amazing food, stay and people. Recommend
- Katrina (10/5): - Lovely older style residence. Wonderful staff and beautiful breakfast on the rooftop. Peaceful and quiet location within walking distance of everything. Would stay again.
However, don't stay if stairs aren't your thing.
- Sergio (10/5): Worth every penny - Great stay! I had a problem the first night and they changed me to another room and was so amazing, it's a really nice place and people are really friendly and welcoming.
- Melissa (6/5): - The exterior of the property is beautifully landscaped and well kept.
My first room was on the ground floor and within 30 min of being in the room there were two enormous roaches in the bathroom.
I reached out to the owner who’d given me a what’s app number to reach him on as there is no “front desk staff” I messaged and called and it was 4 hours before I received a response. They removed the roaches but more soon came. I messaged and called and messaged and called. After a sleepless night I was moved upstairs. Here there were no further issues with roaches but there were still lots of ants in the room as were downstairs. I can handle ants.
Rooms were “cleaned” daily but there were cobwebs above door in latticework and on ceiling in second room. First room bathroom also smelled strongly of urine. Second room occasionally smelled like cigarette smoke so I’m assuming someone on property was smoking and it came in through the windows that don’t seal. Owner was friendly as was his son. I didn’t eat here at all. No spa, restaurant or laundry on property but there are some in walking distance. Room not soundproof at all. For the price it was okay but I wouldn’t stay here again.
- James (10/5): - Located in a perfect location for tourists in Ubud. Amazing restaurants within walking distance, but still secluded enough next to a beautiful rice field. Very peaceful and quite. The staff are all wonderful. Thank you for an amazing stay in Bali.
- Kirsteen (8/5): - Fantastic value… breakfast amazing! Tranquil but so close to everything. Air con noisy but worked well. Bed was very hard. My only real complaint was there was no fridge, no TV, no ice, but overall very nice.
- Vimala (6/5): - It was quite far away from the main road. It was hard to find and the access roads to it were quite rough and hard to bring suitcases to. There were no lights on these side access roads at night.
Hotel was quiet and pretty. Breakfast was great. It was made fresh by a very nice gentleman at the time we wanted.
There was no hot water in the shower though even after we asked.
- Tawn (10/5): Fantastic traditional Balinese experience! - Delighted in every way. If you want a Bali experience, this is your place! Gorgeous, walkable, 5 minutes to everything yet very quiet. Good breakfast made for you. Incredible service, scooter rental on site. The staff made our trip! Just perfect... would definitely return!
- Matthew (10/5): 10/10 paradise! - This place offers the true Bali experience, with lovely garden area and accommodation. Gorgeous place that you will not want to leave. The rooftop terrace at breakfast is fabulous and an incredible view. The breakfast made each morning was so lovely and I would stay here again if I return to Ubud! Great location and somewhere I will remember fondly. 10/10
- Sven Gordon (10/5): - This is a great property, which is right in the middle of the city of avoid yet in a quiet and traffic free space at the end of a laneway, surrounded by rice paddies and the sounds of birdlife. Recommend it thoroughly.
- David (10/5): Another excellent stay at Hibiscus Cottages - We had an excellent stay at Hibiscus cottages. Nice room, peaceful location next to rice fields just a short walk from the centre of Ubud.
I recommend the green (pandan) banana pancakes for breakfast!
- Katelyn (6/5): - Fantastic housekeeping and breakfasts! Unfortunately bathtub doesn’t work and there is no reception if you want to get a hold of anyone. No spa or restaurant as advertised. Only serve breakfast. Air con was fantastic and they had cute furry visitors.
- Margo (10/5): Wonderful, 5/5! - Overall an amazing stay. The hotel cannot be accessed by car, only on motorbike or by foot, it is only a SHORT walk from the road where cars can go so do not let this walk deter you from staying here!our hosts were wonderful and very helpful. The room was spacious, clean and the hotel in a quiet area of ubud but easily walkable to the sites in town we wanted to see and very close to shopping, spas and restaurants.
Great views from the room and rooftop where breakfast was served each morning. When we return to ubud we will definitely be staying here again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): If you're into this sort of thing... - I really wanted to like this place -- the vibe is great, amazing rooftop space, and the owner was very helpful -- but I just can't get past the blood-stained bedding that was in our room when we arrived. The room itself was also not in good condition (part of the shower was falling apart) and quite dark (small windows but a very high ceiling.
- Magnus (10/5): Hibiscus times - Lovely stay at the Hibiscus Cottage...made to feel very welcome by the staff, lovely spacious cottage with shower/tub, air con and good storage space...bed was comfy and had a great night's sleep...location very close to centre yet tucked away in quiet spot. Really enjoyed my stay - thanks!
- Timea (8/5): - Affordable cottage style accommodation that is a little out of the very busy area of Ubud. Great view from the top.
- Leah (10/5): Loved it! - We had a lovely stay at Hibiscus Cottages. The rooms were quite spacious and had traditional Balinese architecture features which was lovely! The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and are happy to help however they can. One day I was feeling a bit ill and was offered all kinds of remedies, they really care about you here. One very minor issue was that the bathroom could get a bit of a damp smell, but that was very easily rectified by opening a window during the day and leaving wet towels on the drying rack provided outside rather than in the bathroom- it was not really an issue for us once we did these things. Overall we had a lovely stay, surrounded by beautiful gardens, and even had a visit from the neighbouring cats which I adored. I would highly recommend staying here, we felt it was fantastic value for money, great location, and super friendly staff. Thank You! 🙏
- Lauren (10/5): Beautiful guest home - This guest house is run by an amazingly friendly family! They all will know your name and remember your favorite breakfast. Exceptional attention to detail and guest comfortable! The view from the breakfast floor is beautiful! Not staying here would be a mistake.
- Nadezda (10/5): Very nice place to stay - Great location direct in the city. We had Delux room on second floor with great view from terrace over the roofs and small inner garden. Our room was clean and cozy. Bathroom had separate shower and big bathtub. Friendly stuff cleaned room daily and prepared fantastic breakfast on the roof terrace. We can absolutely recommend this hotel if you stay in Ubud.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Convenient location. Good price.
- Mike (10/5): - Excellent stay while in Ubud. I stayed in the superior deluxe cottage with excellent views and it’s own balcony outside the door. Hotel staff were friendly and very accommodating, providing options for tours or scooter rental. Breakfast everyday made-to-order from a small menu, was delicious. It should be noted that the hotel is a short walk (2 minutes) from the main road, as such cars/taxis cannot pull up directly to its entrance.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was beautiful! Located perfectly just off the beaten path. You had quiet and privacy, but could still walk everywhere. The staff were so nice and very accommodating helping me with everything i needed. I also had my favorite meal made for breakfast. A Indonesian green pancake stuffed with pinapple, coconut, sugar and cinnamon. It was amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): 10/10 - Best place I stayed in Bali. Staff friendly and always there to help. Free breakfast with a menu was amazing. Booking error on my last night, so was upgraded to better room. Will definitely be staying again when I'm back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property as per local architecture. Homely feeling. Local decor. Marvellous view & sunlight from balcony. Friendly, helpful & hospitable staff. Excellent location. Quiet yet close to main street.
Suggested areas of improvement. Provision of hot water tea coffee in private balcony since senior citizen may not be able to climb stairs.
A intercom to connect to the manager's desk in case of emergency.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the uniqueness of this property. We knew we would have to walk to get here so that didn't bother us, it was part of the adventure and very worth it. The cottages were charming and traditional. The breakfast balcony was amazing...loved looking over the town. Everyone was very friendly and it felt very safe. Breakfast was DELICIOUS.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms were huge but a little sparse. Very quiet and the beds were comfortable. Enjoyable stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location in Ubud, friendly staff and clean rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Authentic Balinese. Good food in restaurant, very reasonable prices. Cloce to beach and shopping.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good quiet location away from crazyness which is Ubud
- JOSEPH (10/5): Book a room @Hibiscus...U will be very Happy - Amazing boutique cottages... centrally locates... great price...wonderful staff... by far THE BEST place to stay in Ubud!
- Mihaela (10/5): - My first experience in Bali started with Hibiscus Cottages where I spent five days. It is an absolutely special place which is owned and run by a Balinese family that take care of the place and the guests as their own home. So traditionally Balinese in everything that you cannot take it for anything else you already know. The room was very spacious, the bed perfect to sleep after a whole day walking around. The bathtub is huge that you can almost swim in it. The little terrace outside is so charming (I chose a ground floor room) with all the plants and flowers right there with the morning butterflies dancing and all the birds chirping. The breakfast is simple but excellent. Everything fresh and cooked on the spot by Made. Everybody is so welcoming, so warm and helpful yet so respectful for your privacy. It is also withdrawn from the noise of the town but within walking distance from shopping, restaurants, Sacred Monkey Forest, etc. Yes, if I can go back, I will definitely stay there. Thank you all.
- Bala Ravi (2/5): - During my 17 day trip, I stayed in seven properties in four coutries. This is the worst accommodation I chose. The day I reached there was no electricity at this proprty. It was a most difficulty walking I had to do for 200 meters in criss-cross narrow foot path, just a meter wide. by the side of paddy fields in pitch darkness.God saved me from falling and getting injured in darkness. The property owner had no excuse for not keeping at least a candle at the entry point, which I was not sure, in the darkness. All this despite informing them that my flight will reach Bali at & PM and I will reach later after 35 KM road journey. Other arrangements in the hotel was just OK, not meriting any good appreciation. Sure, I will not choose this property again.
- Riccardo (10/5): Great Place to stay - Amazing place, great overall well priced
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place to stay if you are on a tighter budget. Breakfast is definitely a big hit - the food is freshly cooked and the views from the rooftop terrace are stunning! The last few days of the stay were a little bit noisy, but I guess it depends on other guests and how many children they bring with them :)
- Jane (8/5): - Very cosy place. Peaceful and quiet. Would love to go back and stay again.
- Karen (8/5): Beautiful cottage - This cottage was situated in the rice fields but easily accessible on pathways, room was beautiful but had little facilities. It was a lovely one or two night stay for us. The most amazing pancakes for breakfast and juices. Staff were really helpful and friendly.
- Marcel (8/5): - Nice hotel near the city, good breakfast, awesome view from the roof terasse
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice and quiet, but not for everybody - This place is nice and quiet and good value for the price.
Rooms have no TV and wifi is really bad, but lots of space in the room. The hotel has no amenities, but some nice ladies can do your laundry for you very cheap.
We were checked in in a room that was clearly not the one we booked, they changed us again the next night but be aware that the room you book is not going to be necessarily the room you get.
The owner is a character, you either like or hate him, we would stay again to hang out with him :)
Breakfast is top notch, not a lot of selection but everything was delicious.
Ubud is busy but this place is ~5 min away from the noise.
No car access to the hotel, you need to walk a pathway between rice fields.
- David (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Hibiscus Cottages has a brilliant location in the middle of rice fields just a few minutes walk from the centre of Ubud. We had an excellent ten night stay in one of the deluxe rooms, our room was well furnished, clean and spacious, and was a great place to get a good nights sleep. A nice breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace. This was my third stay at Hibiscus Cottages, we hope to return again next year.
- David (8/5): Traditional Balinese Cottages - We stayed 10 days in June this year. We were gathering for a family wedding. The location is absolutely super. You are a short walk from the markets and town centre in one direction, the Monkey Forest in another and the gorge and ridge walk in a third. However, you are set back from the main thoroughfare, so it is really quiet and you get a good night's sleep. The accommodation is in a court of traditional Balinese cottages. Excellent value for money. The properties are spotless and well maintained but each cottage varies a bit, so some are better appointed than others. Breakfast is lovely served on a beautiful open, elevated verandah. The local thoroughfare, Jalan Bisma is delightful convenient and has all the amenities that you need.
- Tati (10/5): - I stayed over three weeks and I loved my stay , it was very outhentic Bali experience. The family who owns the cottages are really nice and always ready to help you with anything . The rooms are cleaned every day . Cottages are perfectly , just in the rise feelds but still very close to the restaurants and mane streets . You would hear the frogs and birds singing in the morning and evening . Wonderful experience
- Michel (10/5): Home away from home - This was a great location and very friendly host.located in the middle of a rice field , but yet beside everything, rented a motorbike from here ,and use this location for my start point, visited lots of beautiful waterfalls and temple.
Great garden, will be back for sure.
- SIM (10/5): 4 nights stay at Hibiscus Cottages - The location is brilliant, nestled in a peaceful place and just walking distance to the busy street. Room is very comfy. Only setback is wifi is super weak. Be prepared to get a local SIM card. Otherwise, very happy with our 4 nights stay at Hibiscus cottages.
- Ayaz (8/5): Among the rice fields of Ubud - An unusual but lovely room among rice fields. A special place, highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (6/5): It was ok - It wasn't bad, but just ok. Pros: The breakfast is nice and it's a good location to walk to the town center. It's very close to restaurants and spas. The rooftop view is nice and it isn't on the main road so pretty quiet. My room only had a ceiling fan, but it wasn't hot and was fine. Cons: The room looked dated. The bed sheets were really thin and worn. No soap/shampoo. Also, it's Balinese style so there's holes through the roof for air flow and when it rains at night, the bathroom floor is all wet in the morning. Also, there was no hot water for the shower the entire 5 nights I was there.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful property, but quite a few issues - This property is extremely well appointed. The rooms are really beautiful, and the bed was super comfy. The gentleman who checked me in was quite nice. The day I stayed there, the wifi was down all day which was pretty irritating as I'd hoped to do some work in the night and be able to contact my loved ones. As a solo female traveler, this is really important to me. The rooms were kind of spartan too. There were nice fluffy towels, but nothing else, not even hand soap or bottled water (which was promised in my reservation). This is all available in similarly priced hotels in Ubud. Finally, I would NOT recommend the location for solo travelers, especially women. It's off a side walk, off a side street, off another side street. When you're walking home alone at night, you go through the middle of a rice field so everyone in the surrounding area can see that you're by yourself. Additionally, there was no staff around after about 6 o'clock, so anyone could walk right in to the property. It made me feel so unsafe that I checked in to another hotel for the rest of my stay in Ubud. This hotel is beautiful, but it could use better management.
- james (10/5): wonderful Traditional Balanese stay - Highly recommended. This room was a bit hard to find. It is off a street along several walkways and across a rice field. The rooms are scattered in several buildings, all with private porches and outside exits. They have amazingly carver entrance doors and doors to the bath. It is as if you were invited to someone's private upscale home/palace in Bali. The breakfast was served on the roof/ 4th floor of one building with amazing views of the area. The proprietor was a terrific gentleman, who can help you with any local experiences, drivers, shows, that you would want to see. The home/ gest stay, is located walking distance to the monkey forest, shopping, great restaurants, a local temple, a local art museum, and Lily's massage, don't miss that. Between $8 and $13 USD for a terrific massage in a beautiful facility. Anyway, Hibiscus Cottage is a very unique stay that shouldn't be missed. You will question your choice toting your luggage to the stay, but quickly congratulate yourself on a terrific choice of a room.
- Mike (8/5): Good Cottage.. Good price - The staff is friendly and nice.. the room is clean. Good breakfast! And amazing panorama!
- john (6/5): amazing rooms - Amazing rooms and a great location and friendly staff however it has very bad WiFi to the extent that sending emails sometimes isn't possible, there are no bath or shower products in the room so you will need to trek to the local shop for some shampoo and shower gel ... Apart from that it is very nice and very scenic views from the top. I would recommend the stay here
- Girish (8/5): Calm and peaceful location - Nice 2 nights stay at Hibiscus Cottages, Deluxe Double Room. Pros: Spacious room, good wifi connection, visibly clean rooms and bathroom, and friendly staff. Nice breakfast at terrace with a great rice field view. Calm and peaceful location. Walking distance to Ubud palace and a lot of cafes and restaurants.
Cons: Bed sheets were not that clean. The last morning, we woke up to water on the floor around our bed. The staff quickly responded though and cleaned it for us. They said, it was the rain water from previous night which seeped in from the big windows (really!!!). Ensure you buy water to drink from the nearby mart. We got like 2, 1.5L bottles.
Overall nice stay.
- Ramiro (10/5): Hidden gem in Ubud - Our stay in Hibiscus Cottages was excellent. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a delicious breakfast in the hotel every morning, and the staff helped us arrange local tours and drivers.
The hotel is a bit hidden from the main roads (you have to walk 2 or 3 blocks) into a rice paddy, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise! (amazing views without the noise of the main road in Ubud).
- Anna (10/5): Close to the action (but not too close) - Really cool place. Room was lovely, bathroom was dated but well maitained, staff were helpful. Could use a safety deposit box. Breakfast is up a couple of flights of stairs but well worth the view.
- Jessica (10/5): lovely and secluded but very close to the center - I had a wonderful stay here - I was alone and the purpose of my visit was just to relax. The people who run this place are sweet and helpful. the breakfast on the rooftop is a beautiful and breezy way to start the day and the food is awesome! try the green pancake! 2 quick tips - it's helpful to have a phone/ flashlight if you're returning at night, since the short walk from the main road be get quite dark. also, just a tip - hotels.com allows you to pay by credit card directly or by cash once you get to the hotel - if you don't have a particular preference, it's really helpful for this family run business if you pay in cash on-site. wish I would have known!
- Jenny (10/5): two nights in ubud - We stayed for two nights in Ubud in a Superior Room. It was spacious and clean with air conditioning and nice bathroom (shower and tub). The location was wonderful within walking distance the Monkey Forest and Ubud Market but also quiet and slightly removed from street. The breakfast on the rooftop was great!
- Martin (10/5): Quiet and comfy accommodation. - Stayed here late July 2016 for 7 days.
Excellent accommodation in quiet location, but within easy walking distance to Ubud 'centre'.
Stunning views from rooftop eating area overlookking Ubud and Mount Agung in distance. Get up early to see beautiful sunrise.
But most of all what makes the stay at Hibiscus Cottages is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and owner: thank you for such a wonderful stay.
- Emily (10/5): gem - Gorgeous little hotel. Our room was huge and very comfortable, quiet, well-appointed. Bathroom was luxurious. Breakfast was delicious, view from the rooftop terrace stunning. Jalan Bisma is a bit off the main drag, but still very walkable to everything. NB: This hotel is *not* right on the road - it's a short (3 min) walk down a paved path through the rice paddy, not directly accessible by car. Lovely setting, but a bit hard to find after dark when we first arrived. Wifi spotty in the room. Would absolutely go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Most delicious green banana pancake breakfast in the whole wide world
- Jane (10/5): Friendly quiet stay. - I had a great friendly stay. They were very helpful. Only thing I missed is a TV.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Paradise in Ubud - My wife and I both loved our 5 night stay at Hibiscus Cottages in Ubud and cannot say enough kind words about the owners. The location is great - just a short walk from the main street but far enough away from all of the hustle and bustle to be able to relax. The building and rooms are very charming with ample space and well decorated. The breakfast pancakes were delicious and with lovely views over the rice paddies while we ate. But the best feature of this hotel is the owner, Balon, who really went out of his way to make our stay extra special - firstly in helping us plan our activities and organize drivers (all of whom were extremely competent and gave really first class service), and secondly to help my wife organize a session to dress up in traditional Balinese costume. Balon - thank you so much for your wonderful energy and tireless service!!! We hope to come back to Ubud one day soon :)
- Vijay (8/5): Quiet place that's close to all the major spots - Hibiscus Cottages is tucked amidst paddy fields in a quiet neighbourhood of Ubud. While you can relax and take in the calm in it's tranquil environs; the hustle and bustle of Ubud is just a pleasant walk away.
The cottages are built in Balinese style and the rooms are clean and well maintained. The bed linen is clean and the towels feel clean and smell fresh.
For me, the breakfast was one of the highlights - Balinese pancakes, traditional Bali coffee, omelette with vegetables (this was so good that we called for a second helping).
The staff is courteous - like most places in Bali.
You can watch the sunrise and subset from here - is what the signpost claims - we weren't able to try this though.
The owner also organizes trips to tourist places in Bali including Gili if you ask him to.
It is best that you give them a reminder call a day before / on the day of your check in. This will ensure that everything in your room is ready before you arrive.
- ana (8/5): Simple but nice and very friendly - I spent 6 nights here. I chose the standard room. The room was clean and tidy but it was a bit old fashioned.
There was no TV or aircon and that suited me fine. There were some openings on the top of all windows and you got fresh air during the night.
The staff are very helpful and accomodating and breakfast on the rooftop was very pleasant. It is a good spot to catch the sunset and sunrise.
I did see the "nicer" rooms and they definitely are modern and much nicer than my modest one, but I had no complaints.
The only thing that bothered me is that the hot water took a while to come out and I felt guilty about all the wasted water.
- Lizzy (8/5): Quiet and peaceful - Beautiful and tucked back a bit from the noisy main streets of Ubud. The staff was incredibly nice, and everyone made an effort to say hello to me and ask how my day was and if I needed anything. Perfect location for walking to all the major spots near the palace, and maybe a 15-20 min walk from the monkey forest. Breakfast was delicious.
Not a whole lot going on at the cottages, but that was perfect for me. I would wake up, have breakfast, and then head out every day to explore. I'd come home to a clean room and quiet neighbors.
Did I mention the views were great, too? Highly recommend.
- David (10/5): Hibiscus - a great little hotel - A simple but lovely hotel situated in a quiet and pretty set of ricefields in the centre of town, onlya 10 min walk from most of the "action".The room / apartment was spacious and clean with copious amounts of hot water. Bed super king-sized and very comfortable.Staff very friendly and helpful. Best was breakfast on the rooftop terrace - probably the best view in Ubud!
- Kwok Yeen (6/5): Classy rural hotel but needs more maintenance - Pros :
In the middle of paddy field
Quiet and cooling
Balinese architecture
Cons:
No toiletries provided
No TV
Shower head sprayed water in all directions
Floor trap in bathroom was clogged and water built up on the floor
- Ian (6/5): Woke up to birds each day- peaceful, authentic - This is as close to the "authentic cottage" experience as I was willing to get. While I look fondly at my time at this hotel and had a perfectly fine stay, I would just note that it doesn't have windows that close - a mosquito net serves the purpose of keeping bugs off you while you sleep. Furthermore, the sheets were clean, but the room otherwise was in need of a good deep-clean. No toiletries were provided (so had to buy soap from the local Circle K). If you know that you're getting a lovely cottage that's geared to being "authentic," this is a great place in a perfect (quiet) part of downtown Ubud. Breakfast was good - the view from the rooftop was amazing. This is not a place for handicapped individuals - there's no way they'd manage to get around.
- David (10/5): Hibiscus Cottages - Nice place! - I had a great eight night stay in a superior room. Hibiscus cottages is set in the middle of rice fields a pleasant 15 minute walk from the market and restaurants of central Ubud. The staff are very friendly, this is an excellent place to relax.
My room was large, clean, and spacious, the breakfast was very nice, wifi was a bit patchy but good enough for e-mail and slow surfing.
This was my second visit to Hibiscus Cottages, I intend to return
- patricia c. (10/5): Very special hotel - I booked this hotel after much searching on the internet due to its closeness to town and it's whimsical name:) I booked it for my husband who was wearied by Jakarta and he was very pleasantly surprised by the prettiness of the hotel and thev excellent service and kindness of the owners. He said the breakfast on the rooftop of the fourth floor was very beautiful as it had a beautiful open view on the rice fields of Ubud.the owners son Wayan went to extra trouble for me to place flowers in my husband's room for me on special request and booked a volcano trek for my husband as well over the phone prior his arrival. He also took my husband touring on his motorbike.
the Hotel itself was clean and authentic design .the only downside was the spotty internet connection.it worked well enough though to send messages though .
It was a thoroughly enjoyable stay for my husband .Thank you!!
- sandeep (10/5): Wonderful Hibiscus - can not wait to come back - Wonderful stay. Very Quite neighbourhood. Very nice breakfast(Thanks a lot Dharma).
- Choy Ha (8/5): Hibiscus Cottage, Ubud - While the room is spacious and with very nice and serene surroundings, what was most surprising is that this guesthouse does not provide any soap, shower gel, etc.. . and we not notified of this. When we booked under hotel.com it was stated amenities include toiletries but when we asked the hotel staff they said it only include toilet paper and towels. We stayed for 2 nights and towels were not changed as well. I think basic amenities like a bar of soap or shower gel should be provided.
- jamie (8/5): Great location and room - Fantastic location walking distance to shops and transport. Great room and a fantastic breakfast loved it there
- Nikki (10/5): Tranquil haven in the heart of Ubud - This place is just brilliant! Tucked away in a rice paddy where the sounds of frogs chirping lulled us to sleep at night, we were just a two minute walk to downtown Ubud - all the sights are right there. A one minute walk took us to a couple of really nice restaurants, including a great pizza place. The location meant that we could easily pop back for a quiet reprieve from the noise and sensory overload of sightseeing for some quiet reflection time or a nap before heading back out. The room was lovely - simple and Balinese in style but very comfortable with a lovely outlook onto a tropical garden. The private patio looking onto this garden was a really special place to chill out after sight seeing and shopping. The breakfast on the rooftop terrace was incredible - gorgeous pancakes!
- Joyeeta (6/5): Scenic location amidst paddy fields. - We had taken the suite which was bright and spacious, with a king size bed and sofa. A decent breakfast is served on the charming terrace with tea/coffee available round the clock. The location is off the main road which is a short walk away. The last stretch to the hotel thru paddy fields and narrow passages is not suitable for any one with heavy luggage or walking problems. No toiletries are provided and neither are drinking water or coffee maker.
Laundry facilities are reasonable.
- Kelly (8/5): Great for what you pay for - This place is an expensive, great place to stay. It's traditional with an awesome terrace on the 4th floor. You can get tea, coffee, and water there at any time! Breakfast is also served there; it's delicious. You can choose from egg dishes and pancakes (more like crepes). It's served with fruit or fruit juice and tea/coffee.
The rooms are clean, but remember, you get what you pay for... don't expect hotel standards. There were geckos I'm our room, as well as some cockroaches in my sisters room. No air conditioner; just a ceiling fan. We went I'm November, and going to sleep was difficult due to the heat. Throughout the night, though, it cooled down.
As far as location, it was a two minute walk to the main road with shops and restaurants; 10 minute walk to monkey forest; 30 minute walk to yoga barn; and less than 10 minute walk to the beginning of the trail ridge trek (from there, it's a short 2km to rice paddies).
Also, it was my sisters birthday, so they arranged flowers and treats in her room. It was very sweet!
I would definitely recrecommend this place!!
- Jenny (10/5): Bali Experience - Hibiscus Cottage provided a glimpse of Balinese daily life which I found charming and added enormously to my stay in Bali. It was family run with additional staff everyone was extremely helpful & happy to share local knowledge, customs & ideas . The breakfast terrace gave breathtaking views across a wide vista extending to the mountains on a clear day. Breakfast was delicious cooked to order. available earlier if required.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Little jewel - Lovely place run by a local family. Super friendly and did everything to make our stay a dream come true
- Mamiko Niwa (10/5): nice place! - we stayed here for two nights. We loved the breakfast the most. the breakfast was served on the top floor of one of the cottage, where we can see a nice view of surrounding rice fields and the town. we had a nice breath there during a day time, sitting and relaxing at the cafe. the breakfast was tasty. I liked the veggie omelet in Indonesian style. the room was very spacious and nice for the price. the location is a little bit far from places like Monkey forest, but close enough for the palace and the market. I actually liked that this place was located off the main streets, which are always congested with cars, motorcycles and people.
- Johanna (8/5): Quiet retreat just a walk away from town - I enjoyed this hotel, despite the fact that there is no television or stereo to enjoy at bedtime. The staff is great and breakfast was perfectly delicious. It is within walking distance to town, as well as Monkey Forest and other sites. This place is very simple, with no pool or fancy upgrades, but the staff make up for it. And, it gives you time to unwind. I would stay here again.
- Armida (10/5): Great Hotel - This family-run hotel was very comfortable and conveniently close to the center of town, but not too close, so that it was nice and quiet. The people who work there are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast on the rooftop was one of the perks. I enjoyed the family feel the place had. I got to meet a few people at breakfast, and it seemed to unanimous. The people were all very friendly and were happy to stay there as well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice guesthouse, 5 mins walk from ctr of ubud - I stayed here 6 nights. Good value and quiet guesthouse. When I arrived it was midnight and raining so was hard to find, but its off an alleyway of Jalan Bisma. It is 5 mins walk to the town centre. Breakfast is up several flights of stairs. Wifi a bit flakey. Overall for the price i would highly recommend
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We stayed at Hibicious cottages for 3 nights. We're very pleased with the accommodation. The area is fantastic with a wonderful view. It takes max 5 min walking to the center. Our room (cottage) was quite big with a large porch, inside we had a "princess bed", a dresser, and we even had a large bathtub. Breakfast was nice! Our only disappointment was that we didn't have any hot water until the very last night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): clean new hotel inept service - Location is indeed great, just off the side street with restaurants, spas, shops, etc. The hotel is new and very clean. Rooms are beautifully done. We did not have any view, as we were on the first floor. The breakfast is on the top floor and has a great view. However, the service is very limited. We had a room for for, and we had three "large" towels, which we thin and rather small and two hand towels. They did not even provide soap!! There is not proper staff on site who can answer any questions a newcomer may have. There are no maps of the town, the internet does not really work, very slow and unreliable.
- Vaneddy (10/5): Great Family Run Hotel - We stayed at this hotel for four days while on our honeymoon in Bali. We chose the most expensive room (around $85 a night) in their newest building and it was utterly amazing. The room itself was HUGE, much bigger than our apartment back home. The bed was incredibly comfortable and made it hard to get up each morning. The room also had it's own sitting room and a massive bathroom with large tub and great waterfall shower. The air conditioner was also the quietest air conditioner I've ever seen, you could hardly hear it. The breakfast each morning was great, we tried quite a few options and each was better than the next. I'd recommend the cut up fruit and pancakes (they're green!) with banana, coconut, brown sugar and lemon. Although the hotel is nestled in the middle of a bunch of rice fields it's also very close to the center of Ubud. We were able to walk to wherever we wanted and didn't need to rely on transportation for the entire four days. The street it's on, Bisma, is really cute with some nice restaurants and spas lining it.
