• matticque (7/5): Good place for one night stay at Colombo - Very good location, kind and helpful staff. You can leave our car at the hotel's parking in the basement. Room looked old but it was spacious. Coffee set available but with no tea/coffee with it. Corridors are dark. Air conditioning works but is noisy a little bit.
• vivi (9/5): - Das Zimmer ist sehr groß, besteht eigentlich aus einem Wohnzimmer und einem Schlafzimmer. Wasserkocher und TV im Zimmer. Das Bad ist neu und die Dusche hat sogar eine Schiebetür, was man in dieser Preisklasse selten findet. Das Hotel ist ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen, doch dies verleiht ihm einen gewissen Charme. Es hat keine Restaurants in der Nähe, aber da es gut im Zentrum liegt, kommt man zu den Hauptsehenswürdigkeiten und Restaurants in 10 Minuten mit dem tuck tuck für max 300 r hin. Teebeutel fehlen
• Sue (7/5): Lovely place but not for us as we like to walk to restaurants etc. - Clean room. Comfy beds. Staff very accommodating. Roomy apartment. Modern ac unit Location. No restaurants near by everything was a ride away. Bit dated. No tea coffee in the room had to ask.
• RM (8/5): Enjoyable stay that suited my requirements - In terms of location, the place is located close to Maradana railway station and also the Premadasa stadium is just 20-25 minutes walk away. Also lots of transport options, bus, train, tuk-tuk (rickshaw), uber etc are available. The area is also not far from the heart of Colombo. Not much of veg options within the hotel. For breakfast there was only toast and fruits (The restaurant staff especially Harishchandra was very helpful). Basic vegetarian options were available for lunch and dinner. It is a typical autoparts hub with shops all around dealing in spare parts so not many good restaurants close-by. Mid-range vegetarian restaurants (Indian style) are available close by (easily reachable by foot or by bus, tuk-tuk)

• Steef (8/5): Stanley is a real gent. Great for 1 night - The hosts are very welcoming. Especially Stanley is a real gent. He helped us with a tuktuk driver finding the location, fixed an airport taxi and stored our bags. The location has airco and warm water Compared to the rest of sri lanka is staying in Colombo more expensive. The room is great for 1 night, but the hotel is abit outdated.

• Julian (8/5): Made to feel very welcome. Some traffic noise but well situated - Mr Harrington and his team were very hospitable and helpful. They made sure I was comfortable and changed breakfast to my preference. The property has a bygone Ceylon feel. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Das Haus ist sehr gut geführt und erinnert an die Historic Hotel Sparte in Europa. Der Receptionist Stanley Harrington hat uns sehr gut beraten und begleitet. Wir fühlten uns rundum wohl. Есть ресторан с большим выбором блюд, где можно заказать и завтрак. В принципе, недалеко от центра. Большие неудобные подушки, маленький кусочек мыла, 4 таракана ночью на полу в коридоре.

All staff are helpful and friendly The service, like tea/coffee and snacks with a welcome drink, would be better with breakfast. No elevator, which the hotel management must think about.

• Andrey_2019 (9/5): Впечатлил меня душ с электронным табло, такое я видел впервые. - Гостиница находится рядом с центральной улицей, где происходит вся движуха, но не первый дом на улице, а второй. Поэтому в номере тихо. Персонал доброжелательный, при заезде преподнесли комплимент, кокос. Когда на улице жарко и влажно очень приятно выпить кокос. Освежает. Во время дождя нам дали попользоваться зонтом. В номере были мыльно/рыльные принадлежности. Может добавить чайник в номер, остальное всё устроило.

• Mathias (8/5): Voor een goeie prijs overal dichtbij. - Goeie locatie. Je bent bij dichtbij het station en het is een goeie uitvalsbasis om overal te geraken. Met de Tuktuk ben je direct waar je moet zijn. Het hotel is/oogt wat gedateerd en heeft zijn beste tijd gehad. Het is tijd voor vernieuwing.
• Sean (9/5): Clean and basic accomodations with top notch food and service - The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Chandren in particular was really great. The hotel is excellent value for money. And the food is just straight up excellent by any standard. And the food is also very reasonably-priced. There was nothing I did not like. If you want a lux hotel, you will not like it. If you want a clean, reasonably comfortable place with great staff, food, and location, plus what was for me reliable wifi, it cannot be beat. Excellent value.

They went above and beyond to make sure my stay was pleasant and comfortable. There was nothing that I did not like. I will stay there every time I’m in Colombo, which I hope is frequently.

The room was large and the aircon worked well. There was a TV with a variety of channels. The inner courtyard is very pretty with plants and flowers. It has a slightly colonial vibe. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The facilities are a little rundown but it was perfect for our short stay.

We had breakfast there too for ease and the portions were generous. Overall felt a little expensive compared to other places we’ve stayed but perhaps that’s just a Colombo thing

We arrived very late on a public holiday and were well looked after by Mr Chandra. The next day Mr Stanley was exceptionally helpful in guiding us to the train station, buying tickets, and on to the right train to Ahangama. Genuinely helpful and supportive, making this experience so much easier for us. Noisy fan in room. Bathroom with smelly drain. Limited breakfast options (American or continental breakfast only), though it was the holiday period I guess.

• Leigh (8/5): A cheap comfortable hotel with faded charm - Mr Stanley and his staff were exceptional. Very friendly and they went out of their way to be helpful. The rooms were very large with big beds, comfy pillows and good aircon. A TV too. The shower was hot and there were clean towels. We walked from Colombo station and it took about 30 minutes. The reception area is large and cool with comfortable seating. I would stay here again. The hotel is dated and needs refurbishing but this is reflected in the price.
• Sophia_ines (8/5): Good times at a cozy hotel - Due to a sudden change of plans, this was our second stay at Shalimar Hotel in less than one month. We enjoyed our staying here this time around even more then our first stay. The staff are knowledgeable, efficient, polite, yet friendly, and go above and beyond to meet guests' requests. The food at the hotel's restaurant is good. Rooms are spacious, clean and nicely decorated; beds are comfortable. The hotel is located in downtown, close to many local restaurants, shops, mini markets and the Lotus Tower and next to Maradana Train Station.
• Muhammad (9/5): An old school hotel with excellent staff and value for money. - Location is very lively and central and many transport options are easily available. Staff is extremely helpful especially Mr. Chandra and Mr. Stanley. Restaurant has good food options and halal food is available. Room and hotel overall has an old school vibe but well-kept and comfortable. Housekeeping was done daily and room service for food is available. There is no elevator, so people needing special accessibility may have an issue. Payments are cash only. Hotel entrance doors are closed at late night hours but there is a door-bell at the entrance which can alert the staff inside who will open the doors then.

• Sophia_ines (8/5): Very good - This is a really stylish hotel with an interesting and beautiful architecture and a retro vibe. The hotel is located in downtown, a 5 - 10 minute walk to many local restaurants and local mini markets and the Lotus Tower. Our room was spacious, luminous and very clean with a comfortable bed. The bathroom is basic, but modern and functional, with hot running water at all times. The staff are very polite, problem – solving oriented and efficient. The food at the the hotel’s restaurant is good and reasonably priced. The drinks are also very affordable. The furniture in the rooms needs some refurbishment, most rooms could use a paint job.

Comfy bed The area around the hotel isn’t great. It’s a lovely old building but super tired and with no atmosphere to hang around for. AC had one loud setting, tv remote didn’t work

Good value for the price paid. The Manager and Stanley and entire team were exceptional. Warm, welcoming and did everything possible to make one feel comfortable. Enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Nothing!
