Guest Reviews
- Cheikh (8/5): - Environment is very nice, breakfast was basic, no access to gym, limited internet connectivity. Rooms are very clean, good personnel.
- Alfred (8/5): - `piscina e ottimo
- Thidiane (2/5): - I was not well treated by the front desk staff
- GilbertBouic (8/5): Natural in Niamey - Excellent value for money. A personal service that is lacking elsewhere. No pretentious attitudes and the restaurant produces great food. The pool is warm but clean. Breakfast is sufficient and overall a great atmosphere. Definitely can recommend
- mixakick (6/5): Expensive for what it offers - Run down unfortunately and everything starts to deteriorate the breakfast is ok however and the area around is interesting. Expensive for what it is but this is Africa. Personnel is very helpful however and they will do anything they can to help you .
- gingerHKG (8/5): Good place for lunch and dinner - I haven’t seen the rooms as we were there for lunch and dinner. The garden has many peacocks walking around and is very peaceful. Dinner takes place at the outside restaurant and has a good choice. The capitaine fish and the home made pizza were delicious and the waiter very professional, helpful and very friendly. The indoor restaurant opens for lunch and servers a fresh and good menu daily. I recommend this place for the good food and service.
- davidkM8364KB (2/5): Problems - Usually this is a nice place to stay. I was turned away because they were full and had to pay for another hotel. I am trying to get a refund now. So far unsuccessful.Wish me luck. Any help from travel advisor would be appreciated
- Ahmedamr80 (2/5): Simply it's a disaster - I booked and fully paid through Expedia and when I arrived I couldn't checked in and they -with unacceptable- manners didn't accept my itinerary and the man in the reception told me at the beginning that Expedia didn't inform them, then afterwards when I tried calling Expedia he said, actually we found an email from Expedia but we replied to them back that we are fully booked, which shows that he was lying.
Bottom line, this was the last thing I expected from Expedia as when knew I have to travel for business in Niger, I tried to relay on a reliable partner like them, but it turns out I was wrong and it ended up I am in Niger with no booking confirmation and i had to search the the city for a free room and i had to absorb all the cost related to that search not to mention i had only found a hotel which is double the price I already paid.
What happened with me is a complete disaster.
- Havaki (6/5): The Peacock Place - Stayed here for the first time during business trip. Simple rooms but clean. Hotel has a good Shuttle service from airport to hotel v.v. Breakfast a very very basic. No variety at all. I complained about a broken fridge in the room over a period of two and a half days, but it was never attended to. Paying hotel bills with credit card is a problem. During the time I stayed at hotel it never worked resulting in having to pay cash. Euro’s can be changed at reception against a good rate of €1 = CFA655. Staff is kind and helpful
- wildpix (6/5): clean comfy, without being special - retaurant is very basic, better off using fdiplomat just next door, probably the best lebanese ever.
rooms are nice, spacious, comfy.
no atmosphere, bar is depressing, ok for a coffee, mot much else, tvs in rooms are the smallest screens and set 1oft high!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Peacocks are everywhere. If your in the rooms in the front of the property near the breakfast buffet you will get a wake up call around 5am from speakers outside the property for a call to pray. Then around 7am you will hear peacocks all morning. Also you should shut your bathroom door as the AC does not cool the room without it as the bathroom gets very hot. Oh and the smell of sewage come from the bathroom. Breakfast is great. dinner service is slow. You need to leave your keys at the front desk to have your room cleaned.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice room, good people, one possible problem - The hotel shuttle was waiting for me at the airport as requested, which is good in a town like this. The people were friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and nicely sized. The main downside: the loudspeaker of the mosque next door was practically pointed at my window, so I never missed the 4:30 a.m. call to prayer each morning.
- Jeffrey (8/5): Updated rooms, but grounds could use sprucing up - The recently renovated rooms here are quite nice and kept very clean. The rest of the property, though, is in some disrepair. A simple cleaning up might go a long way—pick up the empty beer bottles littering the grounds, take away the broken chairs around the pool, etc.
The staff are overall very competent and friendly—not overly solicitous like you might expect at a higher-star hotel, but perfectly adequate. Meals are a good price, and the dinners were quite decent. Breakfasts left a bit to be desired; it’s nice to eat outside, but as you might expect, jams and honey and Nutella attract lots and lots of flies.
The Internet works better outside of the rooms than inside. Worked well in my room on my laptop, but not on my phone or tablet. Don’t expect to be able to stream audio or video.
Never had a significant power issue. It flickered a few times, but they must have a generator that kicks in.
Biggest disappointment was the gym. This is a pretty well-appointed gym for an African hotel, but on my third day of using it, I was politely informed that it is actually separate from the hotel, and requires a monthly subscription (about $50, if I recall correctly). I wish I’d been informed about this earlier, as it’s a significant extra expense.
The surrounding area isn’t much to speak of. I couldn’t find any decent restaurants in walking distance. You can walk to the National Museum and big downtown market, though.
- AfricaIndianaJones (4/5): Catastrophal Internet - The hotel itself is fairly ok, rooms are stylish and somehow maintained. However, if you are on a business trip you most likely will need to use the internet. And this is the problem here! I was in a room compound (4 rooms together on the left side from the main entrance gate) and at the entry to this compound there is a wifi router that should bring wifi connection to all rooms of the compound.
That's the theory. The practice is however: If connected at all the internet creeps with a snail pace of 14 mbs sometimes just 9 mbs. And every 2 minutes it disconnects, then you have to wait at least 10 minutes until it re-connects. If there are more than one person online at the same time the whole connection breaks down. Impossible to connect a laptop to the wifi, only smartphones.
And they call this disaster a "high-speed-internet"...
The other rooms on the right side of the main entrance gate have no connection at all. I used to stay there on previous trips.
It seems that the management is simply not willing to invest in a better and more reliable connection. By next year there is a Hilton hotel coming up in Niamey. Then at latest the management of Hotel Terminus MUST invest in a better wifi connection otherwise they will loose their business clientele to the Hilton.
I don't know how the wifi is in the Grand Hotel, but I suggest ist should be much better. So my advise is not to stay in Hotel Terminus and try the Grand Hotel instead
BTW: I asked the reception for their airport shuttle service cause I needed to pick somebody on his arrival. The day and time I had agreed for there was no shuttle and nobody claimed to know about my ordering of shuttle service....
Another big minus point!!
- Liliane (8/5): Hôtel propre et accueillant à Niamey - Bonne réception, personnel accueillant, séjour paisible.
- olafb800 (8/5): I would stay there again - I stayed twice, once in one of the older rooms, once in one of the newly refurbished ones. The new rooms if what you should go for. However, the reservation has to be done well in advance. The hotel is in constant high demand, and I have seen people asking and trying to bribe the reception for a room in vain more than once.
The older rooms are not bad but good enough. The everything works, including a surprisingly fast and reliable internet. The breakfast is very good for 3.000 FCFA. The evening bbq is good quality. The staff are friendly and helpful. The opening hours of the pool are useless. It opens at 9 am and closes at 8 pm.
- David (8/5): A happy stay in Niamey - Perfectly fine, safe and friendly hotel. Lots of peacocks in the garden. Good pool. Very pleasant outdoor barbecue dinner. Lots of NGO guests. Excellent airport shuttle transfer. Some very good craft shops in the front courtyard.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms are spacious and comfortable the food is average .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - hotel au calme, bon restaurant, super piscine, personnel agréable.
- alberto_eme (6/5): Very nice rooms in a regular hotel - I stayed two times in this hotel in my last trip to Niger. The location is nice, in a quiet neighborhood and the hotel has good garden, terrace and swimming pool. The two rooms I got were really good: very big, clean and newly refurbished with a big bathroom. Everything was clean and working and I had my best shower in Niger.
The issue with this hotel is the staff. The reception staff are "cold" and sometimes unfriendly and the bar and restaurante staff are slow and always miss something we asked.
The wifi service is really good and reliable, being available almost anywere within the hotel space.
Anyway: from what some friends that traveled with me and stayed in this hotel, as well and other hotels in town, told me, this could really be your best option to stay in Niamey.
- BWEducconsult (2/5): Poor service hotel that was once better! - The hotel did a big effort to improve the quality of the rooms but the general management of it is a disaster. They put me in room 106 just next to the servant quarters where it is always busy with staff hiding and pretending to work.
Continously people are shouting all over the hotel, there is no management and people do what they want. Rooms are poorly cleaned and staff has no respect for the client.
The evening restaurant became so poor with waiters that have no sense how to serve, with a bbq place that is poorly maintained and dirty. I ate last night with a team of 7 people, we waited two hours for the food and what kind of food.
The sheep meat I asked for was only fat with green poorly prepared beans. The local macquis bbq places deliver much better good than this hotel.
Hotel Terminus became a hotel to avoid as many of them in Niamey. The service is the poorest an un respectable I ever had in all my trips worldwide.
47 times in one week I asked the reception If these lazy workers Could let the client work in peace but nothing changed. The reception staff was the one shouting the most.
So my advise dont eat and sleep in the Hotel Terminus, just make use If the pool and internet!
- erkan0634 (4/5): You pay over but you get poor service - They gave me conformation to pick me up from airport but no one came. Compare to other countries hotels i paid like five stars hotel but its like nothing no cattle no water no tea, no coffee, no shampoo you might say its Africa but you pay a lot to get nohing. Breakfast and dinner was ok. Its safe place to stay friendy and helpfull staff.
- Elisa_Forg (10/5): Wonderful swimming pool - a very relaxing, charming and inspiring hotel compound with trees, bushes, flowers, peacocks (that can be a little bit noisy in the evening), sculptures and a wonderful large pool where I had my daily swim after hot working days. Excellent food at the restaurant and a funny bar. I liked it a lot.
- 247hasanc (6/5): Good - It is a small but well equiped hotel. Especially the swimming pool in the garden is one of the best place during the day time.
The buffet at the restaurant is good also.
Turkeys in the garden add colours and attraction.
The rates of the rooms is not so much.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Alles in Allem gut für kurzen Aufenthalt - freundlicher Service. Gutes Essen im Restaurant. Großer Pool.
- fionaf72 (8/5): I like this hotel... - I like this hotel...helpful friendly staff who managed to cope with my poor French. Breakfast ok and enjoyed the company of the families of peacocks. Garden pizzeria and grill was lovely including the staff member playing traditional music. Room good (I had a new bungalow and more new ones being built)...though internet was intermittent. Good location. Would recommend staying here but walk to the Grand Hotel for sundowners on the banks of the River Niger - can't beat it.
- VascodaGama2015 (6/5): Seen better days, avoid booking online - I booked on Expedia, so my 1 week stay was prepaid. I was charged about 30 USD/day more than what I could have paid if I booked directly with the hotel. The place was nice once, and now lacks upkeep and needs a serious upgrade. Walls/window opennings are seriously dirty/moldy and could use simple repainting and cleaning, along with weeding outside the rooms and around. AC works most of the time, and you need it during 35 degrees C nights. Renovations underway, so construction rubbish everywhere. Breakfast poor, and restaurant is reasonable - service there is very erratic. Expect to wait an hour for a pizza sometimes, and waiters appear busy doing nothing, takes a while to get their attention to order anything. Wifi not very strong in the rooms - so get a local sim card and buy a data package. 500 mb package costs about 4-5 USD, and you can skype and browse easily with that for a week. Gas station right outside where you can buy water. A fast food place across the street. It is a short walk to the Grand Hotel, where you can watch the sunset over the RIver Niger. Overall an ok place compared to alternatives in Niamey.
- SammySambo (8/5): Good room - It doesn't get much better then this in Niger. Affordable hotel, clean, nice outside space. Breakfast not so great, but the staff is very nice. Security is good. Wifi only available in hotel lobby, not in the rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent by Niamey standards - By West African standards the hotel is decent but expensive. Don't expect Western comforts/service. The first room I was in was pretty uncomfortable, smelly, but I was able to change to a "superior" room the next day. At $100+usd/day it's a cash cow for the owner who doesn't invest much back into the property. Most staff seemed to have no training, especially in the restaurant. Pool was great and well maintained. Back-up generator was reliable. Poor internet connectivity.
- davidkK2402BQ (6/5): Not bad but not great - In Niamey if you're coming from overseas you don't really have many choices in terms of luxury and security so you're probably stuck with Terminus or Grand Hotel. The food is ok, the rooms are fine, and the staff is pretty friendly. The breakfast is fine but nothing special. Also, watch out for "ladies of the night" as I basically got ambushed on my way back one night and just pretended like I had no idea what she was talking about.
The only bad thing is the Internet is bad which is probably more reflective of Niamey than Terminus. It just comes in and out and there are some "dead" routers you might attempt to connect to with little luck. I was here for a conference and none of us could get on which made work difficult.
- 983vincentf (8/5): A good hotel with the right room - The Terminus hotel is centrally located close to the main ministries. It is clean, has good food (which tends to be boring after a while) and a large swimming pool that appears clean (used it twice). It is past its best times and generally outdated yet provides excellent value for money. Not all rooms are alike though, many are old and a little unpleasant. That is why I would advice people to ask a room in the newer/refurbished part (rooms starting with number 200) the hotel is also less than minutes from hotel grand hotel with its famous brochettes & amazing view on river Niger!
- rajationale (6/5): decent hotel and value for money too - I usually stay here when I visit Niamey on business. Decent hotel and a little away from city centre and hence very quiet too. One can find peacocks roaming around freely here and if you are lucky , can see them dancing too. Rooms are decent but certainly could be better esp. the bath and the toilet. But, things work here all the same. Easily accessible to city centre ( not more than 10 mins ) and has a decent restaurant too. Breakfast is nothing great but for people on business trips, it is more than enough ( omelette, bread, jam, butter, cereals, fruits , Tea/Coffee etc). Staff very friendly and helpful. Wifi ok and functional too.
