Guest Reviews
- Scott (8/5): Friendly Guest House in Nimman - Good place to stay in Nimmam area of Chiang Mai. The guest house is family run and they care about their guests. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again in the future.
- Dustin (4/5): - The room had dirty sheets and was not clean. Left the hotel and went to another for the night.
- Szabolcs (10/5): - For my personal purposes it worked very well , but it’s about personal taste. Clean room , clean bathroom ( but not for everyone preference if you are a very picky person) , great comfortable bed, clean sheets, has a mini fridge with welcome drink ( water ). I really enjoyed my staying in Chiang Mai at Vulcano hotel.
- SUNG HAE (10/5): -
- ANONYMOUS636 (6/5): Nice-looking but some not-so-comfortable sides - The hotel is conveniently located in a quiet street. The rooms (mine was called 'studio') are not very large, but beautifully decorated.
The down sides are: (i) no table to sit at and type/write: not the best option for a business stay (ii) wifi not reliable: kept going off and back on; again, not convenient if one needs to write e-mail, send documents etc (iii) at night, 2 nights out of 4 there was some noise of neighbours talking loudly and banging doors (well, not a huge bang, but enough to wake one up): the sound insulation is not very good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- JoLeila (10/5): Couldn't ask for better! - Sleeping / living area:
Very comfortable bed and linens!
Lots of big windows for natural light but also good blinds to keep heart and light out in the morning
Compact area but still lots of storage space plus safe box and mini fridge
Bathroom:
Great large shower with good pressure
Neat sliding panels on glass shower walls to let light in if you want
Hotel:
Friendly staff, perfect location
We will definitely stay again!
A localização é ok.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- S.Phiraphon (10/5): Very nice hotel and staff - Hotel very close to Nimman , Hotel staff is very fliendly and warm welcome to serve a very very good service.
The overall Hotel is very cheap price when you compare with service and your convenience.
- Kevin (4/5): Once is enough . . . - I was happy to check out of Vulcano Hotel. I booked it because it advertised large room area of 30 sq. met. - in fact it was no more than 20 sq. met. Wi-fi didn't work, and the staff claimed it was because I am a foreigner: in fact I am Thai resident with a phone bought in Thailand. There is no parking except on the public road. Old, frayed towels in the bathroom, and worst of all, the water temperature in the shower was completely uncontrollable: either scalding hot or stone cold. Room safe didn't work. Floors and surfaces were not clean. I consider the hotel overpriced and misrepresented. You can get much better. Also, there is considerable aircraft noise from the nearby airport during daytime and early evening. No tea or coffee making facility in the room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): The Vulcano Experience - The shower'a temperature was uncontrollable and the Wifi connection using my iPhone was bad — in fact I had no connection. Apparently, it had something to do with Apple products. I was told that if you had a Samsung phone your connection to the Wifi would be ok. Apart from that the overall experience was good.
- TRiqL3M (8/5): OK, Value for money - It's located at Nimman. Easy to find food to eat. The room is clean and has more space in the room. Bed is comfortable. The room price is cheap, value for your money. There is no parking space at this hotel, but you can park your car on the road in front of hotel, only 1-2 cars parking lots.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room is so cozy and upgraded for some reasons. The staffs are ok.
- BeBe1603 (8/5): Very good service พนักงานดูแลดีมาก - Nice clean and tidy room. Not good view but receptionist was very good service also the Daddy restaurant the staff are very nice. Food quiet expensive but it's a lot until we can't finish it. We stay with 2 years old boy for 2 nights. We do really love their service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): very nice room - the room was beautiful. i was very surprised when i walked in the room, it was beautiful. I walked in and in wow started taking pictures. I went to breakfast and didn't feel well. I asked the motel employee to feel my head to see if I was hot. the look on her face spook volumes. she said oooh went and got a cool cloth and put it on my neck and head. she also had aspirin in her hand and gave me three of them, by request on amount. then asked if I wanted to go to hospital. I said I only go to Dr if i need to be sown back together or internal organ damage. my opinion is the hotel we great the staff is amazing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Someone (6/5): Good location but not the best choice - The room was so old with lots of dust and dirt. Seems like the rooms havent been clean for ages not just the bedroom but also the toilet was in very bad condition with bad smell. In terms of location, it's situated in the center of town very convenient to travel around and easily to find good restaurants. No proper parking available
- Verified traveler (6/5): Big Room but slow wifi - In room is good facilities but outside carpet was smelly and a bit dark and feel not comfortable
- Perry (4/5): Not so good - Not so good. No hot water, they offered free parking in there add, there was no parking. The bed was good
- Troy (6/5): Slow wifi download speed. - A one night stay and is definitely comfortable resting place. However, their wifi download speed only allows 1mbps download speed.
- Rosita (2/5): Dirty - Horrible!
- Kristen (8/5): Great central location! - This hotel was in a great spot, convenient and centrally located in Nimman area. The rooms were beautiful and inexpensive. Overall good value.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Book another hotel nearby - Excellent and friendly staff. But the hotel facilities are not value for money. Horrible breakfast, old towels, malfunctioning shower, dusty room. It would be worth only for half the price. Other hotels nearby are cheaper and better.
- 92willd (8/5): Good spot with reasonable prices - Overall a good experience. Rooms were roomy and clean, and we had a balcony. Staff was very friendly, though communication with English was a bit challenging. But even where there were mistakes, staff did what they could to make it up. Beds were comfortable. Great design - glass windows in the showers. They place could use just a touch up - wood panels looked a bit worn, that sort of thing. But for the price we paid, it's a great spot to land in a hipster part of town (Nieman). I would recommend this place to any budget travelers.
- Camper677039 (6/5): Good location - We've booked 4 month in advance for a standard room, but got an room upgraded to a suite due full booked. Location was nice, quite and surrounded by massages&spas. Room was cleaned, big bed, big shower with rain-hub and a mini kitchen. Pity we stayed only 1 night, limited breakfast, no Airport transfer, but on the website is written they have. Reception needs a bit more service mind.
- ELI (2/5): SCAM ALERT - no blankets + suitcase search - I have been to hundreds hotel in the last year, and this is by far the worst hotel i have ever been to.
1. check in - no one there speaks english. ive booked through hotels.com but it was hard for them to understand how many rooms i wanted and for how many people (it is clearly stated in the reservation).
2. blankets and towels - i beeked 2 rooms. in one of them there were no towels at all (was fixed after a call to reception). in the other, one the the beds was missing a blanket, and they said that they dont have any so they cant provide a blanket.
3. smell - the hotel is connected to the back restaurant, and it makes the reception smell very very very bed.
4. hairdresser - during the day of our checkout, the receptionist was giving a hair fan to someone in the lobby and we needed to wait until hes done.
5. accused of stealing - this is the best part... when we were about to leave, the hotel staff accused us of stealing a bath robe from the room, and demanded to search all of our suitcases before we leave. we missed our taxi to the airport because of it and off course nothing was found. not only that, they didnt even say sorry after this incident.
6. don't let you talk to the manager - after all that, i felt like it is just not possible that a hotel gives such service to its customers, and asked to talk to a manager. the 3 hotel staff said that he is not there, cant be reached by phone or email, and that his name cant be given to me.
i will never go there again!
- LuckySevenN (4/5): Not recommended - Vulcano Chiang Mai - Planned to get one hotel that is closed to the Nimmanhemin road that is closed to many restaurants and coffee shop. However, information posted by this hotel on booking.com is totally not right.
Not clean, air conditioning is not world king properly and towel is not clean.
Suggest to try other hotels around this area.
- Lorin (6/5): It was OK to say the most. - It was a nice room but no one spoke English. We checked into the room and they put us into a room with other peoples things in it. We ended up waiting an hour for a new room but they put us in a dirty room. It was a disaster at first and we were very angry about it but the room was nice. Just the staff were very confused and slow.
- carolwR58DF (4/5): Wrong room given, leaking sink, problem with air con - I traveled with my male fd and we booked a double room but was ended up given a king bed room. There was no solution given (plus the staff not very good in Eng) until we were completely mad in the front office. We were upgraded to a better room but then the hand sink was leaking.... and air con was not functioning well that you cannot really turn the temperature down, always 20-23 degree.. i almost thought that i booked a one star hostel.
Very disappointing experience and for sure not recommending...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Large room and helpful staff. The hotel is located in Nimman area. Good location for travelling in the city center and to the key attractions.
- AltoF (8/5): Great location - limited breakfast choice for vegetarians - The rooms were clean and spacious. It's quite as well. Not sure what the street side would be like, but I guess it's OK as well. I was on the fourth floor. Staff at reception was very friendly and helpful. Had a problem with safe not working and shower being either cold or very hot, so changed room. No problem. Safe worked in new room, but shower still not working properly. Either very hot or cold.
Breakfast was included, but the only thing suitable for vegetarians was omelette with vegetables. This had lost its appeal after four mornings.
- 895elsiet (8/5): good~ - I was there 5 days from 3-7 Mar. This hotel pretty much like bed and breakfast style as only few rooms on each floor with a limited choice of breakfast (it's tasty). With a good location - 20mins to airport and walking distance to MAYA shopping mall. Friendly staff - helpful and initiative on assisting to book SPA, airport transfer as well as suggestion of sightseeing. I was happy when staying there.
One comment - the bathroom sink is too high for a normal height lady like me 164cm.
A tip for other travelers - by 12 midnight would hear aeroplane pass by, but ok for a late night sleeper like me ^^
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good value for money! - The room we stayed in was clean and spacious. Staff are friendly and helpful during our 3 days stay. Location of the hotel is good where it's quiet but still close to the main streets within 5-10min walking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): great hotel - Excellent hotel in a lovely area of chaing mai. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Nice bars and restaurants nearby without the tourest hassle but only 100/150 bhat to the old town/tourest attractions.
- V7449PTdavidm (6/5): adequate, inexpensive, value for money - Great location, very clean and good food all be it limited breakfsst choice. Very easy location for accessing all aspects of Chiang Mai. Easy access to airport. Roms small but adequate & clean, v good bathroom. Staff may be a little shy as not overly easy to engage with.
Certainly recommend to short term travelers to Chiang Mai.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hotel, a little outside of the city, but only a short tuk tuk ride away. Staff are very friends t and helpful and restaurant Vulcano serves excellent food. Would recommend staying here again
- norvagabond (6/5): Small room, poor quality on many things but good location - We had some back and forth about booking here due to some reviews here.
But we where late bookers for once and the choices was limited. So we booked 12 days here starting 31/12. We arrives a bit tired after a 24 hour journey from Oslo and was looking forward to arrive. We arrived and the young guy in the reception didnt find our reservation and spoke barely english. After 15mins he found it with our help. The room was not ready and we asked for the luggage to be stored, he just put it in front of the reception( which was pretty small). All together we had some things of value and asked kindly if he could take good care. We got our room in time and after booking a "junior suite"( which actually can mean anything) we where a bit dissapointed because it didnt look the size that it did on their webpage. But we where tired and even if the room was small it looked ok. But the Boutique feeling was not present at all. The door was the thinnest door i have ever seen actually, so one thing is it could very easily been braken up but you could here everything wath was going on in the hall. We decided to put something in the safe. We couldnt get it to work and had a staff come and help us. She did reset the code and we put in our new code, still didnt work, so no safe. The room key was a bit of wood with a broken plastic card that felt off after 10mins, so we just put it in the holder to keep the air-con going. The lock was a mistery to open, we tried several things and it took us about a minute every time to get into the room. The ameneties was a joke, it was cheap gel( said jel), lotion etc. in containers with written on paper and used tape to stick in on.Together with bad pressure in the shower and impossible to get the right temprature we had a really bad start i can say. We paid a pretty high fare the first night (250 dollar) but that included a new years galla dinner which looked nothing like galla to me so we passed and went out. I must say that the neigbourhood and location is great. Nimman is the hip and cool part of CM. Many nice shops, cafees and restaurants nearby, also several 7-11. The bed was pretty comfortable and the air-con, pretty good. So despite all we slept very good every night. There are so many details here not living up to western standards when trying to be a boutique hotel and quite expensive for Thailand. I must say that the staff was never being anything other than smiles and willing to help but its difficult when they speak very little english. Housekeeping was a joy, everything clean and changed every day with 2 bottles of comp. water replaced. So here i am on the last day writing this review in bed. In a way a feel i have been a bit harsh and strict but i feel i have to. The place feels like a smart local guy is trying to earn fast cash running this hotel with a lot of shortcuts. So for now i will say avoid. Ups almost forget about the very bad wifi in the room. Falling out all the time, slow and you need to get codes in the reception.
- carlamaria000 (2/5): Terrible hotel - - Staff barely spoke English
- Water pressure was not working from 2 of the 3 days we stayed and the staff never knew when it would be fixed
- Clean enough, but not good clean
- Room too small and you can hear everything coming from the corridors or other rooms.
- Staff could not recommend where to go sightseeing, eat or things to do around the area, they could not even point the hotel at the map
- No safety for your luggage either. we asked the hotel to keep out luggage at the last day and they were sitting at reception all day, they did not give us a ticket or anything to prove that those were ours. Anyone could walk in, grab our stuff and leave.
- Cau00 (2/5): Horrible Stay - We had a horrible stay at the Vulcano in Chiang Mai. To start the staff barely spoke English, we asked them to point the hotel on a MAP and it took the receptionist 5min to look at the map and she still could not find us. Then there was a problem with the water pressure, so for 3 nights that we stayed, two there was no water. The room was really small and not very clean. At the last day when we left we asked them to kept our luggage cause our flight was in the evening and they did not even give us a ticket, our suitcases were siting at reception all day and when we arrived to pick it up it was a new person at reception that did not even check if we were taking the correct luggage, anyone could walk in pick up our luggage an leave.
We had a terrible experience and would not recommend you to stay here.
- julierV9864GZ (6/5): Eh... - This hotel was adequate, but I would not stay here again, for the reasons listed below.
Pros:
1) Great location within walking distance of shops/restaurants/coffee houses
2) Friendly staff
3) Clean enough
4) Inexpensive
Cons:
1) The elevator smells weird (like a fat man's armpit filled with burnt spaghetti?)
2) The stairwells have no lighting and are pitch black at night
3) Breakfast is best described as "edible." I only used one of my vouchers on the "American breakfast." I was not tempted to return.
4) The noise level could be an issue for some. A band played on the patio until well past midnight one evening; might be a problem for those on a strict sleep schedule.
5) "Do Not Disturb" signs are taken as a suggestion. I'm fairly certain that housekeeping entered the room while I was in the shower; I thought I heard the door open, and emerged to find towels had been placed on the kitchen counter. Yikes!
6) The shower was inconsistent. One morning I could summon no more than a trickle from the shower head. Also, the water temperature would change erratically from lukewarm to scolding; I got into the habit of stepping outside of the stream whenever I could sense the water temperature randomly changing to the "molten lava" setting.
- Jason (6/5): Decent hotel in Nimman area - Stayed for 4 nights in the hotel. Location is in Nimman area with walking distance to the main road. Hotel staffs can only speak very minimal English, but friendly in general.
Room service was good. Breakfast provided was still acceptable.
One down side is the water heater in the shower is not working very well and it could be very frustrating especially during cold weather.
- ArohaW845 (2/5): Regretful stay at Vulcano - We loved Chiang Mai but we 100% regret staying at Vulcano. I must say the staff were very friendly but that's the only good thing I could say about this place. Our room wasn't particularly clean, a grubby toilet seat and mould in the shower. Not what I'd expect from a boutique hotel. Breakfast was disappointing. The bacon and eggs we ordered ended up being eggs and a cold sausage. From a can. Gross. Food at the restaurant was very pricy for what you get, and it certainly wasn't worth as much as we paid when you consider the high quality of food that you get all over Chiang Mai for a really good price. Also we found our food never came out at the same time and more than once they just plain forgot items that we'd ordered. I could understand if it was a very busy restaurant but often it was just us and maybe 1 or 2 other guests, so no excuse really. Staying at the Vulcano really did take the shine off our time in Chiang Mai, d7o yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.
- natsas (10/5): Impressive - Great visit. Very beautiful hotel with splendid rooms. Clean. Good location and friendly staff. Hotel staff can do tour bookings for you no problem. I will stay again in this hotel for next visit to Chiang mai.
Thank you for the great service.
- Tim (8/5): - Good quiet location but very close to super hip Nimmanahaeminda Street neighborhood (which I preferred to the Old City or to the night market area). The room was clean and very comfortable, the wifi worked well, and the breakfast was sufficient. Everyone was very friendly but the staff could have been more helpful to help one figure out relatively basic touristy things here - for instance how to get oneself to Doi Suthep.
- jsutanto (8/5): A Must Stay - This was definitely unexpected how good the hotel was when you consider the price of it relative to the other hotels around there. Rooms were very nicely decorated, tasteful, clean, new, and in a very good part of town. Highly recommend for travellers to Chiang Mai to stay here, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet only a short tuk tuk trip away. Only downside was the lady at the front desk didn't help much with recommendations however, who needs it when you have Trip Advisor and the internet anyway.
- 863warrenm (10/5): Drink specials worth a visit - We came here twice and there were great 2 for 1 drink specials. We enjoyed wine on the patio and felt first class. Even got a free gnocchi starter.
Lovely evenings here in a good neighborhood. There may also be live music. I went in to listen as the band were quite skilled.
Hope to return. This place needs some customer love.
- Mhnchoi23 (8/5): Excellent price for value - Rooms: Nicely decorated, bright, clean and comfortable with a small balcony. Comfortable lighting and large bed but could use a few more English channels. The room size is just right with two large areas for placing suitcases. Good size fridge to store your own drinks. Rain shower and regular shower available, both offered hot water with enough pressure. There was a bit of a smell in the elevator but luckily my room did not have the same odor.
Service: Despite it being a boutique hotel, it had excellent service with a personal touch. We wanted hot water and went down to reception to ask for some late at night, the next day we found an electric kettle in the room. Housekeeping must have noticed that we bought our own beer and stocked the fridge with a variety of other beers the next day.
Food: We had breakfast and dined in the Italian restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast was made to order with about 6-8 varieties (mostly western). The food was great and frankly, unexpected of a small boutique hotel.
Location: situated in a quiet neighbourhood 5 min away from Nimmen Road accessible from Soi 17 which has several bars, a thai restaurant and a Japanese restaurant 3 min away. The area is underneath the flight path and despite reading previous reviews that flights stopped at about 8pm, it was actually still going at 11pm. However, flights were not frequent (perhaps 1 flight an hour) so it didn't cause much of a nuisance and didn't wake me up in the morning.
Overall: Excellent hotel and I'm not sure if I can find another that can offer the same value for money. I wish to come back again so hope that room rates remain affordable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location in Niman - Great location in Niman. Hotel could be cleaner, elevator smelled like trash most of the time. Rooms could have been cleaner, there was a fair amount of dust everywhere. I would give 3 stars out of 5, pretty decent value.
- Betsey (10/5): Great hotel choice - We chose this hotel from other reviews since the hotel we were recommended was full (Le mederian) and we couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. It is a charming, very clean, nice small hotel. The staff was so nice and they upgraded us to larger rooms which had a living area with a kitchen and separate bedroom. We didn't use the kitchen but it was nice. The included breakfast was good and we ate at the resturant 2 other times and really liked the food. The location was out of the way but nothing in that city seemed close to anything so it was as good a location as anywhere. Over all we loved it.
- iafig (8/5): Great place even though it was a little pricey. - Vulcano is a great hotel. The rooms are very modern and the staff is very nice... Although English was sometimes a little difficult for them. We had great American style breakfasts every morning, since the hotel has its own restaurant so the food freshly prepared. Location is in Nimmanhemin, so away from night Bazaar and old town but that was fine with us because nimmanhaemin is in a trendy area so it was great to go for drinks at night or grab a nice mocha coffee to go at a trendy coffee shop! Plus, most tours include pick up and drop off at your hotel and taxi/tuk tuks are really cheap to get around!
Only problem for us s the smells coming from the bathroom.... We think they were coming from the restaurant. The room did not smell only the bathroom.
Hope this helps!!
- happy traveler (8/5): nice overall - The room was comfortable and clean but the price was higher than it should have been compared to our other hotels in Thailand. For the price I would've expected a pool, slightly larger room and easier communication with the front desk. The rooms look fairly new but the closet door handle was broken and bathroom window hinge was broken as well. NOTE- most drivers dropping us off and picking us up for outings had trouble finding it- print out a map before arriving!
- Jules Gardner (10/5): Excellent small hotel - Located very close to major shopping centre. Hired bikes to get around rest of Chang Mia . Excellent food at hotel and staff very helpful. Was quiet street but close to main tourist street when overwhelming number of places to eat. Good internet every where and the terrace was great place to eat and watch world go by.we stayed a week and enjoyed our home away from home in Chang Mia. Would stay again and recommend it as great relaxing place to stay
- Verified traveler (2/5): Convenient to neighborhood. Terrible service! - It's a shame the service at this hotel is so poor. It's in a nice location on a quiet side street and the rooms are well designed. The staff at this hotel does not speak English. Not even enough to get you a taxi to the airport. Breakfast is also horrible, with only 4 options: scrambled eggs, fried eggs on the menu twice and an omelet with only eggs. Our air con broke the last night of our stay and it took the staff an hour to figure out that the best option would be to move us into a different room, not call the air con company at 1130pm to try and fix the problem over the phone. For the price, this hotel is a terrible value.
- Dave (8/5): Quiet and convenient - I loved the location. Quiet neighborhood very near the coffee shops and restaurants. Breakfast was great. Restaurant for dinner was delightful. For couples, book the suite not the junior suite. Huge!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nimman Hotel - New hotel very clean, staff were great and restaurant good. Great location in hip Nimman district. Only bad was construction noise.
