Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good hotel, very helpful staff. I plan on staying here on my next trip to Nepal
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good hotel and good location. Friendly staff, great service.
- Donald (10/5): - Super guest house. Central thamel and very polite staff. Trekking information with good price and best service. Recommend you all.
- H (10/5): - Great staff, pleasant, near it all hotel :) I felt like I had a protective home and Loving Heart just past the Irish pub was some of the best food.
- Kiwichick (8/5): Good clean hotel - Quiet room, good bathroom, nice location right in Thamel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Don't go in winter - didn't see a means to heat the room - can't recall if hot water was also lacking
- Jeff (4/5): Poor service-stay away - To begin, let's start by saying I am fluent in Nepali and all of my conversation happened in Nepali, not English.
We checked in and let the staff know that we had an additional person. They checked back and said that they didn't have a bigger room for us. We understood and suggested that we all share the room. They offered to provide something to put on the floor, so our +1 could sleep on the floor. Moments later, they told us that they couldn't give us any extra blankets, pillows or floor covering, as they didn't have any.
They told us it would be 50% more to add one person, even though that offered nothing for him. I told them that this wrong and inappropriate. They immediately retorted that they had to pay extra for the power and the water that we use., They had no hot water, and on one took a shower. They had 2 outlets in the room, and all we used them for was charging cell phones.
50% more....really! Had we any other choice, we would have taken it. Instead, we just paid the 50% extra.
My sister (who also speaks Nepali) did some Q and A. The building is owned by a tibetian who rents it out to the current people who use it as a hotel. Those people aren't Tibetan. They were looking to make some $ money without doing any work to get the money. I was upset, to say the least, on the guy on the floor had a few sarcastic comments about what he got for his extra $.
We were exploited. I would never go back there.
- Monique (8/5): Prima verblijf - De dorm was prima. Badkamer was prima, basic.
- AJ (2/5): READ THIS FIRST - FRAUDULENT LISTING - Beware that the listing is completely fraudulent and you do not even get what you pay for.
Here are the things that their listing says they provide but they do not:
* Air conditioning (no rooms in the entire hotel have air conditioning)
* Coffee/tea maker
* Fireplace
* In-room safe
* Pay movies
* Soundproofed rooms
* Courtyard views (one of our windows faced a brick wall less than a foot away and the other faced a building and water tank).
* 3 bedrooms and sitting area (you will just get 1 small room)
Also be advised of the following:
* The guest house is aware that their listing is fraudulent, but doesn't care. This issue has been raised in past reviews (see for yourself) but the guest house hasn't done anything about it
* Staff were not friendly or understanding - completely unlike most of the Nepalese we have met, especially in hotels
* There is no such thing as a de luxe room in the entire place, but they knowingly charge more for the exact same room you would get if you book the cheaper room
* No hot water at any time of the day
* The bed has exposed springs and is super uncomfortable - you won't sleep a minute in this guest house
* The fan did not work properly
* The shower drain backed up and so the bathroom floor flooded
This was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in in Asia, even for the price.
Our advice - book another place.
- Eric (6/5): Good value - Great for the price. Bed was comfortable although not as much as a western style bed. Need to correct that there is NOT air conditioning but a fan. Other than that great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok stay. Some inconsistencies. - You get what you pay for. This is a 2 star accommodation that's located very nicely in Thamel. The reception staff was not that helpful when I complained about the room. Note that even though the listing states that there is A/C, there is not. Bed was a little uncomfortable. The room was clean and the fan worked well. Again, you get what you pay for and I got a great deal. Just wish they were more receptive to my A/C complaint.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and frendly - Good place to relax after long trip.
- yoojin (8/5): 좋은 위치 적당한 가격 - Staffs were very kind and onwer of hotel (Mr.Surenda) was very nice person. Pick up service was really reasonable and provided trekking service was good as well. Good price good service for one stop package :) If i have chance to visit Nepal again, I will use this hotel again!
- Shari (6/5): quiet and clean lodging - My experience was positive overall--they offered me tea at check-in and were very friendly. The room was clean and had a pretty view. Nice, warm comforter! It was only until the very end that some issues surfaced--no hot water for my early shower, and no taxi for the airport, though one said it would be arranged. Also, wifi is only amiable in the lobby, fyi. But other than that, it was quite nice. Bring warm pajamas--rooms are not heated.
- William (10/5): Great hotel & hostel, heart of Thamel - Great location, 30m back from the Main Street of Thamel - perfect amount to reduce noise from streets. Lovely staff and helpful travel desk. Cheap rooms, both share dorms and private rooms with ensuite, at competitive prices!
- peter (4/5): - It was a disappointing hotel. There was lurk warm - at best - late in the afternoon. The rates online are better than the walk-in rates.
- Kristina (10/5): Clean and lovely. - It was a pleasure staying here! The room AND the sheets were clean (that's not often in Nepal) and the staff was sweet and helpful. The beds were really comfortable, and the shower was nice and hot... I enjoyed staying here, and I'm definetly coming back!
- Adam (6/5): Underwhelming, you can find better. - Nothing special. Always problems with wifi, construction outside of every window (tried three rooms), could have been a lot cleaner (cockroaches). Manager was a bit rude, night staff was great.
"j'y retournerai"
- Asiya (10/5): Great price and location - I stayed here several times during my stay in Nepal. I would stay here every time I was back in town. Its right in Thamel, close to all the popular spots and the price is extremely affordable. The staff is helpful but can be forgetful so if you need something be aggressive. Not all rooms have fans so try to request one ahead of time. On my last night The rooms are small but again if you are only there to sleep at night it does the trick. I would stay there again when I return.
- Cheuk Wing (8/5): Rich Tibetan Buddhism Culture around - Many transportation arrangement, clean environment,staff are nice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): ... - ...
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable, good location - Would have stayed here first time around if I'd known about it!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Excellent location! Very budget rooming. - Great location! It's right amidst the hustle and bustle of Thamel. Lots of amazing places to eat and shop only seconds away by foot.The beds were warm and comfortable. The only dissapointment was the shower. It was cold water only, which isn't fun after a freezing hike. The rooms are very small, but we didn't mind too much. It is extremely budget, I recommend only for travellers who will be spending a majority of their time outside.
- KUN-HUNG (8/5): a good budget hotel - Cheap,clean,a,good,budget hotel.
- Richard (8/5): Nice if you want to be right in the heart of it - Nice rooms for the price, 24h hot water and very centrally located in Thamel. Downside is it gets Very loud in the evening.
- Steven (8/5): Nice place to stay - The most friendliest and helpful staff you will ever encounter. Good location the WiFi worked fairly good, the rooms were decent the mattress was a little thin but I have had worse. They also can arrange tours for you there. An all-around good place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Kathmandu visit - Have to pay INR 250 EXTRA apart from booked online payment
- Inga (8/5): Simple, but good - This is a simply, but good hotel in the heart of Thamel, though in a slighlty quieter side street. We've stayed here before and it was the first hotel in Kathmandu to come to mind when we wanted a cheap but good option.
- Mike (10/5): Fabulois hotell. Best bang for the bucks. - Fantastic! Convenient and very frienfly staff. Good location.
- zhuo qun (4/5): Good location - Very cold in the room and can ask for a heater with 10 US dollar extra. Hot water doesn't supply everyday. Staffs are friendly and supportive.
- Michael (10/5): Good Stay in Family Guesthouse. Feel Like Home! - Mr. Lamichhane & Ganesh,
Namaste! I was staying in Shree Tibet Family Guesthouse for a week. I love your guesthouse because of (1) very central location in Thamel District. (2) Nepali, Italian, Thai restaurants, supermarkets are all there! (3) Patient driver....(sorry to keep you waiting for a long time :>) Pick-up transfer service for paying a little money from Airport directly to Hotel, even though the scheduled flight was unlikely delayed to two hours upon arrival at that night. (4) Very friendly and helpful staff. More than that, (5) free steady hot water supply and very clean & cozy room. All in all, highly recommended to travelers / backpackers from all over the world!! May I say "dhanyabad" (Thank You) to you all.....Hope to see you again in the next visit!
- aware observer (6/5): Ok in a pinch - I was sure I booked a "room" even my reservation said 1room 2 nights I arrive at midnight and there was no room for me, I had to sleep in the dorm room which I then found out that's what they reserved me under. The staff is really great they made it up to me with free breakfast and put me in a private room the next day with no washroom inside literally just a room with a window, still I was grateful! This place is literally just ok if your in a pinch, the roof top is nice! Very basic.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good guesthouse in Thamel - Very good hotel and quite clean but the only problem is it's right in the centre of Thamel and can be very noisy late evening and early night as there are some bars nearby with loud music.
If you don't mind the noise then it's a perfect guesthouse
- naren (8/5): Very well located - The staff is very good. Very reasonable price formthe quality of the hotel and what they offer, and well located in the touristic centre (THAMEL). They also gave me a drop to the airport. I organized with their travel office a trip to Pokhara and 4 days trekking in Annapurna. Everything went perfect ( plane ticket, transferís, hotel and Guest Houses, bus back to Kathmandú ). And the best part of it was my GUIDE Weka. A real kind man who really took care of me during All the trekking journey. Naren Harjani
- Jeff K (8/5): Great value and great location! - I enjoyed an extended stay at Shree Tibet. First, the good. I stayed in a single with in-suite bathroom. The room was a pretty good size, it was clean, and it was comfortable. On this site, it was the cheapest hotel in Kathmandu, but it was a fantastic value for the money. If you expect the Hyatt, you will be disappointed. If you expect clean and comfortable in a great location with a very friendly and accommodating staff, you will be happy you chose this hotel. A couple of negatives, though. The wi-fi isn't always so fast, but I faced the street and was within range of Funky Buddha's wi-fi and it was much better. I ate breakfast there every morning (very cheap and good), so I had the password. Also, there were tiny ants in my room. They sprayed, but it didn't help much. I honestly didn't notice them too much, though, so it wasn't a big deal. Again, for the price you will be hard pressed to find a nicer hotel than this. I would absolutely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Awesome water pressure (with hot water!) - We arrived late, and left early, so didn't have a lot of time to consider the hotel. One awkward thing - the only option was two twin beds, so my wife and I had to sleep separately. The water pressure was amazing, and internet worked great. Also, right in the middle of the Thamel neighborhood. Downsides: the separate beds and the neighborhood is noisy, but overall, a very good deal for what you are getting.
- Mike (8/5): Good Budget Option - Very good value. Room exceeded expectations for the price. Excellent service. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great budget place - Highly recommend this place for people on a budget. Very, very nice staff, good location, good value for money, clean. A bit noisy neighborhood at night but I think that applies to most hotels in the Patel area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Decent hotel with helpful staff - We stayed two nights here, having severe food poisoning (not related to the hotel). But. There was no running water in our bathroom for a full day. So no toilet, shower or washing. Which is a problem when you have to go to the toilet every 10 minutes.
Other than that the staff was very helpful and spoke good English.
- Phil (8/5): Perfectly situated in the Thamel area of Katmandu - A very peaceful relaxed hotel in the heart of the chaos of Kathmandu. Greeted by very friendly staff and a wonderful cup of Masala Tea. Basic and clean accommodation. Fantastic value for the price. You must expect regular power cuts, no hot water and no lights regularly throughout the day but its all part of the Kathmandu experience.
- Satisfied traveller (6/5): Good value for very little money - The hotel is in a good location, with access to most of the things one would like to see in the area. The rooms are basic, and on the small side, but very good value for the money.
- rob (4/5): Satisfactory place - Our taxi driver from the airport did not know the name so we had a prolonged trip to find it. Our room was small but quiet, clean and bright - it was at the back on 2nd from top floor. We discovered the pleasant roof garden - great views on a clear day. From the pictures, I was expecting the foyer to be dark and not very clean, but this is not the case, although not so bright during electricity load shedding times. Wifi worked well on our floor at all times as there was an additional wifi modem on our floor. Location is good - surrounded by shops and eating places and mgt were polite and friendly.
- Mick (8/5): Good value - A long way from 'upmarket', but clean, comfortable and secure in a good location. Excellent value for money for those on a bugdet.
