Guest Reviews
- Maria Victoria (6/5): Place is dated. - The restaurant was closed and the location is not exactly on the Camino de Santiago.
- Marina (8/5): razoavel - Localização boa
- Nicholas (4/5): Depressing - First I would like to state that the staff all seemed very nice, this is not a reflection on them at all - also the room was very clean, I was very curious to see how it would be with covid-19 but it was perfectly adequate.
However the general condition of the property is incredibly poor.
The parking lot is littered with garbage, people loitering who aren't staying in the hotel, there was a morbidly obese man drinking from the hose next to the pool when we checked in.
The room was incredibly dated, shabby and depressing, and the air-conditioning system made me feel ill (I think it's long over due for a filter change) the buffet was nothing more then weak coffee and some budget bread rolls and some corn flakes. I wouldn't return.
- Joao-Can (6/5): Nice - Nice budget hotel. Outdated but comfortable. Breakfast was fine and had the necessary itens for a nice day. Girl at the reception very friendly. Guy from the breakfast not really. Good a for a short stay in Valença
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was very dated and worn Very dark and gloomy.
- Carmen (8/5): - Está bien
Algo alejado de la ciudad
Bien comunicado
- Nelson (10/5): My go to when visiting the area - We usually stay at this hotel when we visit my father's homeland, it's a great hotel for the price and the included extras (free breakfast, free parking, pool, etc) are great.
- K1440OPdavidf (6/5): Outdated but clean - Good value for money but everything is outdated, from the lobby to the rooms.
One member of the staff doing the night shift was very rude while showing me where the garage was. After I parked my car, I tried to find him to check what was going on but I never found him afterwards. The rest of the staff was friendly.
Noisy fan of the minibar in the room. Low water pressure in the shower.
- KenandLinda69 (8/5): Nice budget Hotel - We stayed here for one night and had a suite of rooms for a bargain price. The place is in need of a renovation but for the price we paid it was a bargain. The breakfast buffet was okay and included in the room rate. We would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Muy atentos y atención 24 horas y buen precio. Instalaciones modestas
- JOSE (8/5): - Tranquilo y económico. Decoración justa pero muy limpio
- 627marcusz (6/5): Outdated but good value for money - The hotel is quite outdated and the water in the pool appeared a bit green. The breakfast was not worth the time spending in the “restaurant”. But it need to be said, that it was a cheap stay and therefore good value for money. The staff is nice and helpful, the hotel is located close to the Camino.
- RiverDouro (10/5): Top stay. Friendly staff. Airco in the room. - I stayed :) :) at Hotel Valença Minho one night only in my way to Santiago de Compostela. This was my best decision of the week in regards to accommodation.
I could not believe how friendly the staff were at reception and at bar by the pool. And yes, there is a pool with my acceptable measures where I relaxed for 2h. Not an 50m olympic but large enough in a quiet area with green grass and a small bar with cold beer and lots of free sun beds. Super Bock beer 1.5Eur a bottle. The garage is also safe for bikes and free. The room has some design of the late 90s but in good condition, with TV, ensuited bathroom with jacuzzi bathtub, a large balcony at 3rd floor and wow...a working airco. We paid 50Euros in Sep 2018 with all taxes included. Breakfast is also included in the rate. Probably if you call the hotel directly you can get a better deal. We booked with booking.com but, you can always provide your own review at Tripadvisor and Google and give space to the hotel provide you with a better deal without having to pay 20% commission to booking.com. HTH.
Limpieza.OK
- Maria Irene (6/5): Razoável - Satisfez a necessidade.
- PathManSlough (6/5): Pool over-ran with locals on a Sunday afternoon! - My wife, two friends and I stayed here one night on the 6th day of our Camino walk from Porto to Santiago de Compostella. The building is fairly unsightly from the outside, and is dated internally. However, the receptionist (manager?) was very welcoming and knowledgeable and recommended a restaurant for our evening meal which was 100 yards down the street.
The rooms themselves were actually suites, including a sitting room with small TV, bedroom, bathroom and luggage storage area with fridge. There was two a/c units in each suite. Everything was clean, though dated.
There was a swimming pool in the grounds with loungers and plenty of grassy area, however, as it was a Sunday, the pool was inundated with locals who pay a small fee for entry. It was still great to enjoy a couple of hours by the pool after our long walk and we were able to dry our washing on a travel clothes line that I pegged up on a wire fence.
Sleep quality was good, and breakfast was OK. Overall, a very cheap place to stay which is certainly adequate for one night if travelling on the Camino.
- tomterresa (8/5): Two nights in Valenca - Hotel in newer part of town, historic fortress area about 15 minute walk. This property was probably THE place years ago but is tired though the rates reflect that, had a suite with separate sitting room, fridge, large bedroom with free limited breakfast for economy pricing. The hotel is within walking distance from both train and bus stations with a good restaurant two buildings to the South. This is not the Posada inside the fortress but for half the price and easy transport it's a winner.
- Cassio (8/5): Old but good - Hotel is pretty old but we'll maintained and super clean. It's away from the main hotels area but close enough to walk everywhere. Worth it!
- JohnRees09 (6/5): Check your alarm settings! - All Vigo hotels were full so my colleagues and I managed to find rooms in this hotel. As it turned out even though it was over the Portuguese border it was very close to our workplace which was a plus. It was clean. Thats it! The staff were friendly and breakfast was very basic but no mini bar, chilly room heating, narrow beds and an empty swimming pool(early October) left a lot to be desired. Because of work we didn't have an opportunity to try out the gymnasium which was signposted but we weren't too upset about that. The price made it very good value and if we were to work in that area we would stay there once again. One thing about being across the border is that there is an hour time difference so watch the alarm clock settings.
- ML (6/5): Nice hotel - It is a nice hotel. Very nice and helpful staff, good breakfast, but they should have more illuminated the staircase, at night and even during the day it was too dark, and the shower curtain in my bathroom didn´t close properly so most of the floor got wet and it wasn´t nice.
- robinpeggy (6/5): Meh - As noted in other reviews, rundown. But that was no surprise. The fact that early September is a holiday in Portugal and there were NO open restaurants in this area of Valenca....including our hotel's restaurant. ..was a bummer. We bought food at a supermarket and a staffer at the hotel graciously set us up to eat dinner in the breakfast room. (By the way the breakfast was the worst we've had...no eggs even hardboiled, no granola or muesli, bitter coffee.)
- 710madalenab (8/5): Nice place - We stayed at a 3rd floor room with balcony. Great views for the main avenue, mountains and pool.
All property is quite dated... not very well maintained. The breakfast room was not very well cleaned. The pool is open to locals, paying a fee. We can understand this...
Very friendly staff. Comfy beds. Great location. Free parking area. Breakfast variety is ok.
Quality-price relation worth it!
Although they could/can pay much more atention to details, i would recomend it.
- bhons21 (8/5): Right on the Camino, Good Food - Good location if you're on the Camino. The fortified city close by is very cool. My room on the 3rd floor had a nice large balcony. We had dinner and breakfast here which was very good. I was there in June and the pool was not yet ready.
- Jose joaquim (10/5): vou voltar - O pequeno almoço bastante fraco
- Isabel (8/5): Boa - Estadia boa. Quarto bom com sossego
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cumpriu as espectativas - Estadia relaxante.
- hillywilltravel (8/5): Excellent value all round - I agree completely with HenryWorthing's review. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good with (amongst other things), nice fresh bread and coffee, plus delicious walnut cake. Maybe the whole place could be improved with a bit of a makeover, but it's fine as it is, and provided really terrific value. We'll be back.
- 312Paolo (8/5): Good equipped hotel ... if staff want - The hotel is located on the main road. Very large and safe inside parking, opposite to the main entrance are also parking spaces. Room are equipped well, minibar with very nice prices. Clean and calm rooms althoug windows to the road.
Large pool in the garden was unusable for lack of water.
Breakfast was standard, good coffee.
- LeiteM (10/5): Full package for price - Clean and tidy, nice and cozy. Great breakfast and awesome pool. Stayed 2 nights, didnt expect much but got full treatment. The only thing was view from our window but at the end, really doesnt matter. Surely we will come back one day.
- annea353 (8/5): Perfect base to explore Valenca - This hotel is excellent value. Clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful.
Bring located an easy 10 min stroll from the "Fortaleza" you can forget the car. For exploring the region the hotel is close to bus and train stations as well as being on an excellent access road. Have stayed here before and will come again.
- jose manuel (6/5): Hotel antigo a necessitar remodelacao - Peq. almoço básico demais
- marcos (8/5): Hotel agradable - Hotel sencillo y agradable, muy económico. Perfecto para una parada en el camino.
- Ian (6/5): Valenca Visit - The Hotel was "OK". Its in a quiet part of the new town. The restaurant was not open. Staff were OK
- Irlantilainen (8/5): Modern, Clean, Quiet, a Bargain - A bit out of town, on the main road south, but worth the trek. ( Reviewer HenryWorthing suggests five minutes, but hey, he's a Camino veteran - took me ten.)
The walk up to the Fortaleza very much worth the time, if only for the terrace bar of the Pousada with views across the river to Spain.
Just north of the hotel in an unprepossessing building is an excellent restaurant.
Recommended.
- HenryWorthing (10/5): What a bargain - Picked this hotel for a one night stay at the beginning of my Camino. Taking into account the price, I wasn't expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in the modern part of the town about a five minute walk from the railway station and about fifteen minutes from the fort.
The reception staff speak excellent English and go out of their way to provide you with information about the town and where to eat.
The rooms though a little dated, are clean and comfortable and a good size. The room I had, had a good sized balcony.
for those on the Camino who want an earlyish start, breakfast begins at 7.00am and has a reasonable selection. Don't forget if you are walking into Spain to put your watch one hour forward.
- thenorwells (10/5): The best value ever!! - You don't go the Hotel Valenca expecting a 5*, however you get an awful lot for your (not very much) money. The brochure photo is a bit optimistic, be warned!
We were pleasantly surprised with our third floor room complete with balcony, fridge, free wifi and efficient bathroom. The niggles? Hard beds and tiny pillows, but they were the only niggles.
Pedro on the front desk is a font of local knowledge. The Teresinha restaurant next door serves up enormous portions of good food which really must be accompanied by the local vinho verde tinto.
The Fortelaza is a ten minute walk away. Immerse yourself on the battlements and narrow streets, trip over pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela walk and goggle at the views across the Minho to Spain.
- Myriam623 (10/5): lovely hotel - nice people working there, they clean the rooms and change the towls every day. i love it,itºs a nice little town reach in good food ,not expensive, with 6 or 7 euros you can eat very well .The hotel manager it's very nice.
