Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (7/5): Relaxing - Beautiful garden surroundings with great staff The accommodation needs to be refurbished.
- Anon (6/5): Pleasant - History
Short vanilla/ rum tour (literally 10 mins)
Breakfast was copious
Quiet and nature
Fan and Aircon
The lovely Mauritian family who were staying in the other rooms and were super welcoming towards me. I was in African room at the back;
Noise from the road
Cockroaches (4) in the room
Dinner was a little early for me (630pm). The staff bus leaves at 8pm so I felt rushed by the guy the first night (not his fault obviously).
I arrived later in the day so wasn't given a choice of my evening meal (this could easily have been rectified by sending me a message/WhatsApp/ call)
I needed a place to stay for 2 nights.. It did the job...
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tania (7/5): Lovely stay in the country side. - Nice and simple accommodation at the Saint Aubin complex. The three rooms are all part of the same building and share the common areas (dining room, terrace). The smallest and cheapest room, which I stayed in, is farthest from the road. The suite looked nice, too. Staff at the auberge are very friendly and accommodating. The half board option is good because the place is a way from other restaurants. The auberge cook serves dinner at about 18:30 and breakfast around 8:30. Pleasant meals. The pizza oven was not working during my lunch there, unfortunately, but the curries were tasty. Lovely grounds - be sure to visit the greenhouse with the orchards. Rum tasting is included. It is set at fixed times, in either French or English (last one at 16:15) (and felt a little busy/hectic).
If you’re driving, swing by Gris Gris beach for a nice walk through the pine trees and on the beach. Park at the hidden parking lot at the Eastern end by Foyer Notre Dame de L'Unite (at the last roundabout go left rather than straight forward) as everybody else go to the Western end. Large spider in bathroom (but killed it, slept with the light on, and appreciated the mosquito net over the bed :-))
- Soniawys (10/5): Amazing stay, exceeded expectations! - The staff was very friendly, and the fact that we have access to the huge garden! That the farm closes at 5pm, ând the room tends to be abit too dim during the evening.
- May (6/5): Apart from the above incident, the stay was nice. - Great room and facilities. Good value for money I forgot to inform that we do not eat meat when I booked online. However, I did mention to the staff when I checked in. To my dismay, when we sat down for dinner, the staff who came to serve us was not aware of this information. We were served chicken and therefore could not eat the main course and had only the starter and the desert. Nothing was done from the Management to make up for this mistake.
- Ellen (8/5): Authentic stay perfect for one night - The auberge is located in a huge area of St. Aubin, where you can also see beautiful gardens, a colonial house, vanilla farm, animal park and experience a rhum tasting. If you book a stay, all of that is included and does not need a reservation.
The rooms are inside an old colonial house so you really have the feeling of time travel. Sitting outside in the morning and evening, watching birds and having an authentic and delicious breakfast/dinner was a super experience.
There is a pool area outside, which was nice but we didn't use it a lot.
The staff was very friendly, they also helped me when one of my mosquito bites got inflamed and I needed a bandage. Some things in the house itself could be improved (even though it is an old one): there was some bad smell in the bathroom, coming from the drain, and we could not close the doors between the bathroom and bedroom properly (one of the handles was broken).
The sheets on the bed were a bit dirty and the area around the sinks in the bathroom wasn't clean either.
The rhum tasting was more about drinking rhum than learning a lot about it - just be aware of that :D
- Natalia (8/5): Very good -
- Nats (10/5): The place is beautiful…. the staff were very nice , specially Élodie .. -
- Sarah (9/5): Exceeded our expectations - A huge thanks to Elodie for making our stay fantastic. All of the staff are courteous and a joy to communicate with. No hot water due to the weather being overcast as they rely on solar heated panels for hot water.
- Kerstin (10/5): Exceptional - The stay here is an experience, the whole domain is very pretty and the staff is so present and friendly. The little farm with animals, the awesome food and the beautiful nature is the highlight here.
Would definitely book again!
- Aman (8/5): Very good -
- Southworth (9/5): Birthday on an old manor sugar plantation - The breakfast was excellent! Service was top notch! Grescha, Elodie and Shudas welcomed my son and me. They also served us dinner. This was like something out of a movie. I came here to celebrate my 65th birthday and it was a dream! Thank you!. Perhaps if there was an ATM on the property because tips could not be added to the credit card bill. Also, was not sure if the tea kettle in the sitting area was for our use or not, but it was okay because we had a lovely dinner. Did not know that the wine was not included in the meal package as it is in other places that I have stayed. Of course it was very good. Thank you.
- Peter (10/5): Time travel - I like everything about Auberge de saint Aubin. I was staying for Four nights on half board, from the 20 of June until the 24 of June 2024. It ticked everything that I wanted. Getting there was very easy using public transport. I wanted peace and quiet away from it all and it was truly a hidden germ in the beautiful island of Mauritius. I used public transport to visit the south coast of the Island during the day time. The bus stop was just across the road. All the staff were very professional, they treated me as if I was very special, friendly and very helpful. I had a free tour of the resort and visited the vanilla plantation, Rum making and tasting of the Rum and not forgetting the small Zoo. I bought three bottles of Rum and some tea. As I was staying at Auberge de saint Aubin I could use the restaurant for lunch and get a 10 per cent discount. I made the most of it I had crispy chicken and crispy prawn with some local Beer. Breakfast was truly wonderful pancakes, fruit salad, omelette and bacon, tea or coffee and juice. As for dinner it was local cuisine. One night I had chicken with vanilla sauce and one night fish curry every night it was something different. They asked when I checked in what I prefer. I told them that I only eat white meat chicken or fish. They cater for my taste. My room was big and clean everyday. It was a 19th century going back in time. There is nothing I don't like.
- Annick (8/5): Charming house, location and staff. - The location inside the Domaine Saint Aubin. The charm of the little colonial auberge. The friendliness of the staff and the typical dinner. Includes visit to the Domaine Saint Aubin. I had the room without shower but with bath tub. The bath tub was very high and without curtain, so not very practical.
- Ludovic (9/5): Mauritian break - We got the entire stay for us for the night. An exclusive mauritian experience. Food was excelent and the staff was really welcoming since our arrival. Included the visit of the rhumerie and rhum tasting was amazing. Next to the street, before 9PM, a bit noisy but after the closure of the doors and windows, we were really quiet.
- Joanna (10/5): A gem of a stay in Mauritius - Small guesthouse set in beautiful grounds N/a
- Ieva (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice authentic atmospheric place, delicious food, beautiful villa, nice rhum! Nothing not to like
- Marina (10/5): Best Peaceful Hotel in Mauritius - Completely amazing! 10/10 Best hotel I stayed in Mauritus. The dinner and the breakfast were too notch, amazing food and service. Super green and beautiful all around. The people were super nice and you have access to the vanilla, rum and a farm for free if you stay there! I will recommend to anyone. Its a bit in the middle of nowhere no supermarkets or shops around.
- Nikola (7/5): Good -
- William (7/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Charming quaint establishment, good food, well informed and helpful staff. We discovered by chance that our overnight charge entitled us to much more than we could have known from the website, including rum tasting and farm /estate tours. All rather dated but in keeping with the establishment.
- Emanuel (9/5): Superb - Exceeded expectations. We were transported back in time, to a farm in the middle of nowhere. Only guests that night, in accommodation with half board, excellent food for dinner and breakfast. I recommend it for anyone who likes peace and quiet.
- Stephan (9/5): Superb -
- Alistair (8/5): Very good -
- Debora (9/5): Superb -
- Vimal (8/5): Very good -
- Nick (8/5): Very good -
- Mirka (9/5): Superb - There is a lot of tho do in the areal, super restaurant for lunch and just great experience with having breakfast and dinner served at the Terrasse just in front of our appartment
- Aglaë (8/5): Very good - The setting was nice and the visit of the domaine was very interesting. We also enjoyed the pool and the little farm .
- Gerhard (9/5): Calm and beautiful place - Calm place in the south of the island. Beautiful manor with large rooms in old Mauritian style. Nice terrace (with many mosquitos due to the fields nearby), rich breakfast and fantastic food at night! There's an outdoor pool which I didn't use.
The whole 'domaine' is special place as it is part of a larger area with an old sugar cane factory, a rum distillery and a vanilla plantation. The Auberge, thus, is an excellent location to stay, although you'd have to drive for a couple of kilometres in order to reach the next village.
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Elan (9/5): Delightful little auberge - We had a delightful stay at the auberge. Our room had a large bed (King size, I believe) with a desk, chair, mini fridge, closet and large ensuite bathroom. The food was very nice with the chef making a small alteration to the evening meal at short notice. Breakfast was nice as well, served on the porch area in front of the room. The drinks were lovely and the whole setting was comfortable. The ceiling light on one side of the bed needed replacing and the A/C did not get particularly cold, despite being on the lowest setting. If we had known we had free access included to a free rum tasting, the mini zoo with tortoises, and vanilla set up we would have gone earlier/spent more time - we only learned about it on a walk about 30 minutes before we checked out. Otherwise it was absolutely delightful and I would stay again.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Thandrayen (8/5): Very good place for relaxation - Very green and spacious We were far from the restaurant
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - I felt as if I was the most important person there. It stroked my fragile ego. 😀
The food was good to very good. Personal chef and waiter. The cost also included breakfast and accesscto the site attractions.
I stayed for lunch at the on-site restaurant (colonial building opposite). This is a must.
I had only planned one night here but next time I am in Mauritius, I will stay longer. Well done, staff. Nothing to add here.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful experience in a beautiful house and compound with swimmingpool, the warm welcome of mr Ved and terrific breakfast at the veranda made the stay very special. We came late and didn't need dinner, he invited us to have lunch at the restaurant instead. We highly recommend this Auberge when you are looking for a special experience other then the beach.
- Matthew (10/5): Wonderful old colonial property and excellent value for money. - We stayed in the Colonial Room, which was very atmospheric and lovely! We booked a few months before arrival and the dinner, bed and breakfast deal was amazingly good value. The staff were a delight and served dinner and breakfast on the verandah for us. It had a real colonial old charm about it. The price included a free tour where we learnt about vanilla production (which was fascinating) and rum production, complete with almost as many free samples as we could manage! Obviously, we bought a couple of bottles and staggered back to our room for an afternoon nap! Cannot recommend highly enough - a lovely place to stay. La Vanille Nature Park is very close by where you can hand feed giant tortoises, which was fabulous! Absolutely nothing.
- Carlos (8/5): Very good -
- Assou (7/5): Good -
- Andrea (10/5): Definitely worth a visit - A stay in the Creole House is perfect, comfortable room and plenty of space with two other couples staying. The staff were so kind and helpful and breakfast was amazing, pancakes and omelettes all freshly cooked. We visited the vanilla plantation, main house with model boat display and rum factory - all making for a memorable and unique stay. Definitely a place to visit worth putting on the list Nothing
- Lise (9/5): Séjour inoubliable - Fabulous stay. We spent our last 2 days of holidays there and would highly recommend. The food on the first night and first morning were incredible!
You're perfectly situated between the Domaine Saint-Aubin, La Vanille et Gris-Gris, we did everything easily on foot. Got a bit drunk at the Rum tasting as well. Unforgettable stay. The swimming pool was a bit dirty.
- William (9/5): Superb -
