Guest Reviews
- francesca (10/5): - If you would like to experience living in a 400 year old cottage, with many original features, surrounded by so much beauty and peacefulness, then this is the place for you! I cannot recommend it enough.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by hens and cats. We were then shown to our ‘living area’, bathroom and upstairs - a double bed and bunk beds. The hosts were so welcoming and helpful. There were so many extras included - books, binoculars, tea/coffee/hot chocolate/fresh milk/squashes/biscuits/sweets, fireplace - with a lovely armchair, information about the area, the most incredible breakfast - using fresh eggs from the hens… to name a few! It was warm, cosy and idyllic. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your beautiful cottage.
- Barry (10/5): - We had a lovely time despite the mostly inclement weather. The owners Tina and Colin were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast was superb and the accommodation and facilities of a high standard.

- Phil (10/5): - Both hosts were excellent. Property was in ideal location, clean and tidy
Breakfast was perfect...
- Tracy (10/5): Brilliant weekend - Absolutely loved staying here. Tina and Col were brilliant and very welcoming. The cottage was gorgeous and dog friendly. The breakfast was delicious. Thank you both very much. We will definitely back in the summer.
- Katie (10/5): - Fantastic B&B with lovely hosts. Dog friendly, made us feel very welcome and helped with dinner and walking plans - thanks for a lovely weekend!
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely spot - Lovely cottage on the dales way. Really comfy, lots of space and really helpful hosts
- Paul (10/5): A wonderful Easter break. - A lovely Easter break with the family in the beautiful Dales. A superb location where our little boy (5) could run and play freely and we could enioy the gorgeous landscape.
Our hosts were so welcoming and caring, and even went above and beyond when our little one wasn't feeling so well on the second night. They couldn't help us enough.
Lovely breakfast, relaxed and calm atmosphere and some wonderful doggys and chickens much to our 5 year olds enjoyment!
We will definitely be back!!
- Helen (10/5): Just 1 night, but hopefully we'll be back! - We had a comfortable and quiet one night's stay at Sweetbriar Cottage B&B. The bedroom was the perfect layout for our needs, and we appreciated having the downstairs living/dining space. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming, and couldn't do enough for us. Our breakfast was delicious and it was nice to have a selection of cereals and fruit for the early risers in our party. The location is superb for exploring the Yorkshire countryside. My daughter appreciated having use of the swings in the camping field, and loved seeing the chickens.
- Louise (10/5): Great stay - We had a lovely, comfortable stay at Sweetbriars. It’s an excellent base for exploring the Dales. Colin and Tina were wonderful hosts who gave us great recommendations and made a very tasty breakfast. They also made a fuss of our son which he loved :) Thanks for a great time! We’ll be back!
- Anthony (10/5): Dales stroll - Fantastic B&B right on the Dales way great room plenty of tea, coffee biscuits and proper milk (not little pots). Very powerful shower plus bath, nice seating area and amazing farmhouse breakfast
- Sylvia (10/5): Refreshing - Clean and comfortable. Wish we'd stayed longer. Excellent traditional pub down road. Good base.
Only negative was having to go downstairs to use loo but wouldn't stop us going back.
- Stephanie (10/5): Fab family stay - Fantastic layout for families with a separate seating area downstairs. Everything you need and will be back when allowed
- Verified traveler (6/5): Awkward - A slightly impersonal and unwelcoming host, maybe it was us but the host was either shy or something but it was a little bit uncomfortable. The breakfast was of a good standard and location fine.
- David (10/5): - Lovely clean accommodation, there is a lounge and bathroom downstairs and the bedroom is upstairs. Breakfast was really nice and there was a good choice. The location and view is stunning. All in all a great stay with friendly hosts and even friendlier dogs.
- John (10/5): - Our stay was really good. The hosts where friendly and the food was excellent.
We would recommend this site and visit again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - You expect a bedroom and bathroom at a b&b, but having the sitting room too was a real bonus. Ideal for a family with younger children, because they can go off to bed and the adults can get some time and space to themselves. It's sort of part way between a b&b and a holiday let with the best of both worlds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The view was spectacular from our bedroom window of the cottage, the breakfast was made from all local produce & tasted amazing 5☆, the host Colin is friendly & has great knowledge of the area. Dogs were happy & also welcome in the local pub which is within 100yds & the food is amazing in a friendly welcoming pub, I recomend the steak & ale pie & washed down with the local ales.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was lovely to find a perfect spot with a great view. We had a sitting area, bathroom and bedroom to enjoy spending time in during our short stay. We then had a fabulous cooked breakfast in the morning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Colin and family are so accommodating. We had an absolutely fantastic stsy. Thankyou Colin
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent stay - Great, picturesque location, and the self-contained suite was ideal for our family with two toddlers- they tell us the things they loved the most were the bunk beds and the friendly dogs.
Owner was very flexible with regards to our uncertain arrival time and was helpful in pointing us to local attractions, such as the Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival.
Breakfast was superb, too.
We’ll be back for longer next time!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is our second time at this B & B and we stayed 3 nights here and loved it. The breakfasts were amazing. My son (25) said that Colin cooked the best breakfasts of our whole trip. The area is quiet and Colin personally took us to the local pub so we could book a table for dinner. This was an extremely busy time for Colin, but he always made time for us. The accomodation is really like a little self-contained cottage. I can't wait to come back. We all loved our time in Starbotton.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed at Sweetbriar in June 2019 for 5 nights as a family of 2 adults and a 2 year old.
The setup of the rooms is perfect for a young family as the kid(s) can sleep upstairs on the bunk-bed while the adults can relax downstairs behind a closed door in a separate lounge.
There is a large lawn in the rear garden with a few hens that our daughter loved along with Harry the dog.
Colin was great and helped us with suggestions for things to do on the rainy days and nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfasts are fantastic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place for a family, great breakfasts - We were a family of 4 with a dog and this place was perfect. Could put the kids to bed upstairs and stay up late downstairs in our own sitting area. Stairs are steep but only for real young or old. Colin did a great job at making us feel welcome. He is quite quiet to start with but warms up conversationally after a while. Dog loved it too!
- Michael (10/5): The best of the Dales - A very nice and cosy place to stay in, owner very friendly and helpful, room - actually 2 rooms - were very nice and comfortable. Definitely worth recommending to others and when again in the area I'd try there first.
Oh, look for the rainbow gate 😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing overnight for families - It was a beautiful location with ample space outside for the kids to play, as well as our own sitting room, bathroom, spacious family bedroom, yummy breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We love places like this you get to know a local the owner and the facilities at Sweetbriar Cottage were particularly good breakfast was great and the location just superb. Loved it.
- mary (10/5): Great - Beautiful area.Clean and comfortable accommodation and great breakfast!
- Andrew (8/5): - We weren't sure of check in time, as nothing was mentioned on booking details. We met the landlord, he was ok and very helpful. The only concern is the stairs to first floor are a little dangerous at night, as they are quite steep and the handrail stops short at the top. Toilet being downstairs this could be tricky at night. May help to have trace lighting at the top, and extend handrail.
- jason (10/5): Beautiful dog friendly accommodation - Thank you so much Colin. Excellent dog friendly accommodation very clean and friendly. Breakfast was home cooked with fresh ingredients, filling and tasty.
Beautiful location and a huge plus is having the luxury of sitting in own private living room attached to bedroom and en suite. Recommended to friends and family. Mum and dad planning a stay also.
See you again
Thanks again Jason, Jane and Freddie
- Jahir (2/5): Did not want to stay :( - I booked this B&B after reading lovely reviews about this place however I ended up not staying there after quite an uncomfortable first conversation with one of the staff. I turned up slightly early and I asked if my room was ready to which a simple "no" was all I got. I had to ask follow up questions to find out about the hotel instead of being given all the information and every time I asked a question I got a single word answer. Now I don't know if it was because of the colour of my skin but I didn't hang around to find out especially as I had my wife and 3 month old child with me. Instead I booked a last minute stay at a Holiday Inn and received a much warmer welcome.
It's a shame as the B&B is in a really lovely location and the surrounding area is just beautiful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfy Overnight Stay - After a long days hiking on Dales Way. It was just what we needed comfy chairs and comfy bed. Even a bath as well as a shower
- Douglas (10/5): Excellent B&B - Upon arrival we were met by staff who showed us around the excellent clean and well decorated apartment I cannot sing the praises of this B&B and its staff anough. The breakfast was out of this world and we have already booked for next year.
- Barry (10/5): Lovely location in this 17th century cottage - Pleasant welcome by the owner who showed us our room, lounge, and bathroom all were tastefully decorated. Wifi was available. Tea making facilities were in the bedroom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice countryside B&B - Large bed room with drying cupboard, but no hair dryer.
- chris (10/5): Great B&B - Sweetbriar is ideally placed for visiting the area, for long walks and stunning views, but it also has many nice pubs in the vicinity.
The bedroom is completely private and has its own lounge with a big TV and a private bathroom, it is clean and excellent value for money. Most importantly, it is dog friendly and it is very important to us as we have a big dog. The host, Colin, is a great guy, open minded, easy going and he also serves a great breakfast.
We are definitely going back again.
- Eileen (8/5): A pleasant 2 night stay in a beautiful setting. - Colin and his 2 boys are wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and he gave us lots of info regarding the property and surrounding areas. Breakfast was lovely. Walked with Colin and harry the dog to the nearby river before a small walk to the local for a bit of supper and a drink. Colin booked us into the Kings Head {Kettlewelll} for Hubby's birthday meal and kindly took us there and collected us later when finished.A great base for exploring this stunning area.
- Ellie (10/5): - Beautiful location. Great living space. Excellent breakfast. Friendly pub short walk away. Ticked all boxes.
- Julie (10/5): Peaceful, comfortable B&B in the heart of the Dales - Had a 2 night stay after a hectic week in Leeds and London. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. Colin was welcoming and attentive and cooked us the best breakfast! We had everything we needed. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- Alan (10/5): Homely Stay - Travelled over from Ireland to visit the Yorkshire Dales Starbotton was the area chosen excellent walking area and the local pub The Fox and Hounds ideal and within walking distance of Sweetbriar. I said to Colin the owner of Sweetbriar we were expecting a cramped bedroom from the photos he downloaded this was not the case plenty of room and lovely views.
- Kyle (10/5): Fantastic - Fantastic stay. Great location. Great host and great breakfast! Highly recommend!
- Claire (10/5): Excellent place and host, I'll stay again - The host, Colin, was friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was warm, spacious and spotless. The living room had a large leather sofa and leather chair with a TV, table and fireplace (which I didn't need to use) the bathroom was in the corner where there were quality towels and a selection of shampoo/shower gel to use.
The bedroom was large, light and had a comfy double bed and two bunk beds. I was on a solo trip so only used the double bed. The coffee tray was well stocked with quality coffee, lots of milk and a selection of syrups for me to use. It was great to have a proper sized coffee mug rather than the usual hotel tiny ones.
I will certainly be back here again and I can't recommended Colin and his accommodation enough.
- michelle (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at the Sweetbriar Cottage will definitely be back!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Bed and breakfast in stunning location - Really enjoyed our stay wish we could have stayed another night. Very peaceful area. Great location for exploring the dales and the lovely town of Skipton is only 30 mins drive away. Hopefully get chance to stop here again in the near future.
- Nanci (10/5): Great place - Private living room with TV, comfy sofa, nice clean bedroom with a wonderful view and a nice clean bathroom. Great breakfast options and good service. Friendly and very well behaved dog, it does not go in the room. Nice location for walks. Walking distance to a nice pub with simple but tasty food. I wish we could have stayed another night.
- Peter (10/5): Rustic retreat in beautiful area - There is only one "room" available at this property although the owner does offer camping in the grounds. What you actually get is a spacious bedroom upstairs and a small lounge with TV and bathroom downstairs. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the owner Colin was very friendly and helpful. The setting in the small village of Starbotton is idyllic and a great base to explore the Dales from. There's a small pub in the village but best food options are a short drive away in Kettlewell. The general area is stunning and we'd thoroughly recommend both it and this B&B.
- Christine (10/5): Quaint comfortable accommodation - The host was friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and due to the quiet location we all had a good nights sleep, helped b the very comfortable bed. The breakfast served was delicious and substantial. The surrounding area and views were picturesque.
- Tim (10/5): Outstanding - Our best night by far! - Ours was a one night stay during a family touring break. We arrived early and were met by the owner, Colin, who was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation formed part of the family home and as such had a very welcoming feel. This was by far the best night's sleep that we all had during our trip, as the beds were really comfortable and the room spacious and well ventilated. The breakfast in the family dining room was first class, with eggs from Colin's own chickens. A real bonus for our kids was meeting 'Harry' the smiling labrador dog, who was just too wonderful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Sweetbriar Cottage - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sweetbriar Cottage and were looked after extremely well by our host who provided us with an excellent breakfast.
- Nigel and Jane (8/5): A real taste of Yorkshire - A very enjoyable 5 night stay felt home from home with a very likeable host who cooked a lovely breakfast. We had everything we needed.
- Kevin (6/5): Tranquility in the Yorkshire Dales - Lovely old stone cottage tastefully renovated. The bedroom can easily accommodate a family. Wifi available and a nice pub 100 metres away
