Guest Reviews
- Jan (10/5): - We stayed for one night here to visit Blenheim palace as it was so close, we were warmly welcomed on arrival and showed to our room which was lovely and cosy and comfortable. It was a Saturday evening and we hadn’t booked a table for food but they kindly squeezed us in even though they were very busy, the food was very good as was the breakfast the next morning, there was a continental breakfast laid out and we had the choice of full English or different types of eggs, we chose to have omelettes which were delicious.
All in all it was a great place to stay and I’d highly recommend it.
- Robert J (4/5): Ca Elle’s by them but no refund - They cancelled my booking as they had changed ownership but I got no refund they had told me to cancel but it was a non refund booking I suspect that has resulted in no refund I expect a FULL refund
- wayne (2/5): - As previously responded, we cannot review this hotel because when we arrived after receiving confirmation of our booking and payment the hotel was closed so we had to find last minute accommodation elsewhere.
- Fergus (10/5): The Bell at Hampton - spacious, comfortable and well equipped accomodation.
- BARRIE (8/5): - Our stay was enjoyable but access to the upstairs cottage room was not easy but once there the room was nicely furnished. The bathroom did not have a shower or shower attachment on the bath. The lampshade on the standard lamp had fallen of its mounting. The worst aspect was that outside the cottage wisteria had been allowed to grow accros the room window so that the was virtually no natural light.
- patricia (10/5): - Nice stay. Lovely friendly staff
- Jason (10/5): - Lovely little place
Really lovely staff too
- Stephen (6/5): - On arrival there was staff outside smoking and drinking, the young man who seemed to be in charge was a university student ,apparently the hotel manager had been dismissed for some criminal activity so the young man tried to do his best, there seemed to be a lack of staff and he was obviously filling in as best he could,at the bar there wasn’t any Whiskey or Brandy,at breakfast there wasn’t any bacon ,salmon or porridge, the room was nice ,large bed etc etc not the cleanest we stayed in but it was ok,food in the restaurant was again ok,it seems that a new owner of the hotel was due in September and because of this the hotel had been allowed to let the previous good standards go,generally there didn’t seem to be anybody in charge and staff were running the hotel,I understand that the hotel was previously well regarded and hopefully once the new owners take over it will get back to its previous high standards.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing stay - Welcomed on arrival and shown out too, just the right size, lovely comfy bed and a good shower. Aircon unit in the room! Breakfast was tasty. All staff were helpful, parking was easy.
- Sophie (6/5): Average - We had an okay stay here.
Clean room, comfortable bed, breakfast included. Room had bath, no shower - knew there was a chance of this but unusual nowadays.
Service here is not great - it has a bit of strange vibe as a pub, and staff are not very professional and don't seem bothered.
I think there are much nicer places to stay for the price. Wouldn't return.
- Thomas (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at Bell at Hampton. The young man at check in was very helpful and the area has some nice walking around too. Our only complaint was that our room lacked a bit of lighting, perhaps something in the ceiling.
- Tad (2/5): - First of all, let me say that the staff are AMAZING. This is not at all a review of the service. But the facility is ATROCIOUS. Our room had pubic hair on the floor of the bathroom, no hot water unless you ran it for 5 min, the tub wouldn't drain, the ceiling in room 6 was sp low, we hit out head, and there was no AC. Again, great staff but don't ever book a room here.
- William (10/5): - Staff
Super helpful
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely stay at a great little Inn. - Really lovely Inn, very luxury feel. Clean and comfortable. Only stayed for 1 night, but would recommend.
- Mary-Louise (8/5): - Sadly lack of restaurant staff training brought the review down. Service was slow, repeatedly asked for things, too many things were not available on the menu, lack of knowledge about the dishes, mistakes were made with orders. Otherwise it's great. The rooms are good, the beer/wine good, the food that did get served was good, the staff were friendly. Would have been 5* were it not for the restaurant service.
- Mary (10/5): - Excellent stop off for Blenheim Palace. Relaxing & peaceful.
- Jo (10/5): - Lovely location - room was very quaint and comfortable, would definitely stay again if in the area
- Steve (10/5): Great for visiting Blenheim Palace - Booked due to proximity to Blenheim Palace, only about 15 mins away by car/taxi. Great rustic pub offering very comfortable & clean rooms. We booked one of three luxury double rooms, where we got the only one with a shower - the other 2 have baths only. Pretty spacious given it's a converted cottage with queen size bed. Quiet location but easy to find. If attending an event at Blenheim, then would certainly recommend. We ate in the pub - food was decent, nice friendly staff.
- Emma (10/5): - Qe had a lovely stay right through from check in to check out , there was really pleasant young lady who checked us in ,her hospitality was fantastic. Lovrly stay ,lovely food and lovelh staff
- Nicola (8/5): - All good
- Marcus (10/5): - Very pleasant experience wonderful room and the food was very good will visit again
- Alex (10/5): - Was booked last minute due to work commitments but was fantastic, very nice little coubtry pub with rooms, stayed in room 1 which was extremely spacious and comfortable, food in the bar wasnt the best in terms of value for money but was cooked well. My one gripe would be the shower head in my room was absolutely caked with limescale in what is a soft water area so hasnt had much attention for some time however Honor who was working when I arrived was fantastic and a real asset to the business
- ksenia (10/5): - Everything was great. From the cosy bedroom with massive bath, to the amazing service and tasty food.
- l.b.kennerley (10/5): - Great place and lovely room
- Dr Elizabeth (8/5): - Everything was great except for quality of food at eve
- Caroline (8/5): - Lovely property with good parking, well designed and decor was pleasant. Room was spacious and clean. Food was excellent. Young staff were polite and tried to be helpful but really need some more training in finer etiquette but not their fault. No finger bowls for shelled prawns, Rose wine not chilled enough and was poured into glasses before the bottle and glasses were brought to the table. However the food was excellent although you might struggle if you had gluten dietary issues.
- Kay (8/5): - A comfortable stay with good service. Well maintained, good decor and very comfortable bed. Didn’t eat there in the evening but breakfast OK. Quiet village and convenient for visiting Oxford with bus stops outside the door.
- Simeon (10/5): - Excellent and cosy place to stay and to eat.
Just a short journey from Oxford, and in the middle of lovely countryside.
The Bell has a lovely country atmosphere with a stylish bar and restaurant. Service and food is excellent.
Bedrooms are comfortable and have everything you could need at a reasonable price.
Special mention for Toby, who works at the speed of light to ensure your evening meal is wonderful.
A definate must visit for anyone in the Oxford area.
- Alan (8/5): - The staff at the hotel were very helpful, friendly and efficient. The room was pleasant and the bed very comfortable.
- Janice (10/5): - Gorgeous room in the main building.
Very nice helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble, if I was able to get room 1 again I would book it in a heartbeat!
- Andrew (8/5): Ok stay - Clean with a comfy bed. However no milk in the room and only two coat hangers...
- James (10/5): - Lovely spot to be away from the busy lives we lead!
- patricia (10/5): - Lovely quirky accommodation. Facilities great. Bed really comfy.
- Alan (8/5): - Rooms were a good size and well furnished very comfy bed but food in the bar was expensive but overall a nice stay
- Julie (10/5): Friendly Atmosphere. - A friendly atmosphere on arrival. Booked in and offered evening table booking and choice of breakfast timings, 0700-1000. Good menu choices, including vegetarian. Lovely full English breakfast. Louis was great. Room was very nice apart from a musty smell that was attributed to bed cushions - once removed all was well with open windows to air the room. All in all, a good stay and would use again.
- Chris (10/5): - All good, as usual.
- Robert (10/5): Great break. Good accommodation - Amazing place to stay. Really friendly staff and good options if food
- Sandra (10/5): - Lovely room and food, with convenient parking at the property
- Janet (10/5): - the hotel was really lovely and well presented the friendliness from all staff was excellent and the help provided by them haven't been to that area before and would go back the food was really good to enjoyed the stay
- John (10/5): Excellent - Lovely country pub with rooms. Food excellent, staff very friendly and polite
- Royston (10/5): - Great place
Great value
The staff were friendly and very helpful
Food was good and affordable
Breakfast was included. It was good
Easy to get to
We will be going back
- Jacqueline (10/5): A little gem tucked away in the Cotswolds - A lovely old pub with great rooms, very clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast really good
- Paul (8/5): Everything was ok - Room was comfy, spacious and a great wet room en-suite. Breakfast was great. Dinner and service was ok.
- Matthew (10/5): Clean, good food, friendly. - Lovely clean room, fantastic restaurant and friendly helpful staff. I will definitely stay here again.
- Andrew (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Inn and the food and room were lovely.
We would go back - room 3 beautiful
- Colin (10/5): Great Oxfordshire Hotel - Great stay and some enjoyable drinks at the Bell - staying for a family wedding.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Average! - Stayed with friends for two nights, location excellent for getting into Oxford. Pleasant staff and brilliant breakfast. Room was clean and first impressions very good but no shower in the luxury bathroom and no milk with the tea making facilities. No billing and sign off with meals and bar service unless requested and disappointed that bar sales closed at 9.30pm with only a 20 minute warning. Overall nothing horrendous but sadly wouldn’t repeat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Had a very nice stay.
- Andrea (8/5): - 1
- Diane (10/5): - Comfortable quiet , hassle free , good food
- kevin (2/5): - No cream ,no crusted bread as on menu, broken heater,NOT A KING BED,we paid for,but the hostess swore it was, Please obtain proper measurements, shelf in bathroom loose had to take it off wall to be safe,cobwebs-have pictures if you want them, hair in bathtub and sink,no outside lighting after dark, VERY noisey floors/ceiling can hear the upstair urinating, worn carpet, tiny TV
- Adrian (8/5): - Great place to stay and eat, staff looked after us really well
- Timothy (8/5): - Lovely country pub. The room was nice, but the very low ceilings were always a concern.
The food was solid pub fare.
Having No bitter was an unexpected disappointment in a pub in that location though.
Plus the bath in the room was lovely, but would not have suited less able types and there was no shower.
- Thomas (10/5): - Great location for access to motorway and the retail outlet. Found the staff very friendly. Evening meal was nice and priced reasonably. Breakfast was freshly made and really good. Room was up narrow stairs so you may need to ask for a downstairs room if you have mobility issues. Standard of the room was very good and priced very reasonably. Would definitely stop again.
- Toni (10/5): - Lovely place to stay. Staff friendly, polite and welcoming. We booked two rooms- both beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable. Excellent food and good variety of drinks available. Will stay again.
- Carlos (10/5): - Great little hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pretty pub - Lovely place with very friendly staff, comfortable room, excellent breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
- Robert (6/5): - Lovely looking property but there it stops|
From young people sleeping in a booth beside the bar eating KFC,to overpriced food and drinks .What a waste of a lovely building with no Management obvious and no wonder it is on the market...
- Rachel (10/5): - The property was clean and well appointed. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient. We were made very welcome.
- R (6/5): - Lovely hotel but ceilings too low for me being 6 ft 5
- Gisela (10/5): - One of the best places I've stayed around Oxford. You even get to control when the towel rail is turned on and off!
- Gary (8/5): Comfortable hotel. - Had a lovely stay at The Bell. It was very clean and breakfast had a good choice of cereal, cooked and toast.Tea and coffee and juices.
- Samantha (10/5): - We stayed for two nights while we were at Silverstone, the staff were lovely from beginning to end. Dinner and breakfast were stunning, I read some reviews criticising the staff during meals but I couldn’t fault them. We would definitely return if we were in the area
- Janice (6/5): Nice hotel slow service. - Nice hotel, lovely room. The food was nice but the service was unacceptable slow even for a simple desert. We waited almost forty minutes for a cooked breakfast.
- Beverley (10/5): - Very nice interior, clean and tidy. Very welcoming staff. Food beautiful. Room very clean with air con and tv, tea making facilities wand shower bathroom. Breakfast amazing.
- Richard (10/5): - Great rooms. Friendly staff. Lovely food
- John (10/5): - Excellent food, cleanliness of room and bathroom room were excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Kevin (10/5): And relax! - Excellent stay.
Room was great, comfy bed, bathroom was large with lovely deep roll top bath.
Easy check in, friendly and helpful staff.
Breakfast was superb with great choice of hot or cold, plenty of fresh juice and lovely coffee!
- Sue (10/5): - Our stay was lovely. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere and decor of the hotel was relaxed and interesting. We enjoyed watching the food being prepared and the funny banter going between chef and staff. The quality of the food and wine was of a high standard . We would have liked to stay another night if we could. Only disappointment was that the bedside lights didn’t work and the bedroom above the kitchen area is noisy. But we still loved it.
- Tony (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Great place to stay, amazing food and the staff are top
Quality
- Gillian (8/5): - Had a lovely weekend there for the grand Prix, room was lovely and clean but very hot!! Ate in the restaurant and the food was good if a bit expensive. The only negative was that we were asked what time we would like breakfast, but when we went down it was closed! The cleaner told us that breakfast didn't start until 9 even though we'd booked for 8. A lovely stay but wouldn't stay again for race weekend as early starts were not catered for.
- Brad (10/5): - Clean, modern rooms in an old building. Friendly staff
- Patrick (10/5): - Staff we very good
- Adair (8/5): - Comfortable, clean, decent sized 'boutique' room with en-suite. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, even at busy times. Would stay here again.
- Frances (8/5): Nice hotel, nice location - Pleasant room with a good shower, in a nice spot. Decent breakfast, served by a lovely lady. Only downside was a constant whirring sound in our room (No9), which seemed to come from an appliance (sounded like an extractor/ventilator) located between shower room & bedroom.
- Oliver (6/5): Comfy but the service was not great - It's a lovely pub and the room was nice and spacious with a very comfy bed.
It took a while to get checked in, i think they are really understaffed at the moment. There was no coffee or milk in our room so we had to go down and get that sorted.
The full English breakfast was disappointing, the bacon and eggs were really over cooked.
For the price, i would have hoped for better service. Maybe it was just a bad day for them.
- Jackie (10/5): - Only stayed for one night as we were going to a gig at Blenheim Palace. But would definitely stay there again as the staff were lovely and the bedroom was spotless and had all mod cons. Had the full English breakfast which was delicious.
- Mrs (10/5): - Service above and beyond expectations.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Bell at Hampton - Lovely hotel good location as we were going to a concert in Blenheim palace. The hotel was easy to find and staff were friendly
- Michael (10/5): - Beautiful large room & excellent breakfast
- julie (8/5): - Lovely small hotel with friendly staff . One thing that stopped me from giving 5 stars was the bath / shower which was over the bath was difficult for me getting in the bath so I couldn’t use it ☹️
- Kate (10/5): Excellent overnight stay - Exceeded our expectations. Lovely rooms and great bar and dining area
- Philip (10/5): - Very friendly and efficient staff. Good food. Clean and welcoming pub.
No hot water for late shower as the system was in need of repair and regular boosting was required.
- katie (8/5): - The bedroom was lovely, very clean with nice big powerful shower. The bed was really comfy with all amenities. The only negative would be that the room was really dark, no ceiling lights, 3 lamps but two had big shades on that pushed the light down. I stayed for work and it was hard to see my laptop, but even getting ready in the morning the light was poor. Other than that excellent stay and would stay again
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely location great breakfast+ dinner would definitely stay again .plus fantastic service.
- Kirsty (6/5): - Rooms were clean and comfortable however breakfast was disappointing told there were no poached eggs, beans or mushrooms
- Martin (6/5): - Room was spacious and comfortable. Walk in shower was great. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating.
However, there weren’t enough staff at busy times such as breakfast, when only person was on duty for setting up tables, taking orders and serving as well as looking after reception. We were told that neither fried nor poached eggs were on offer today, just scrambled. When I asked what the problem was I was told that the chef wanted to make a big batch of scrambled eggs to serve to everyone to save time! Also, the buffet was the most limited I have ever seen in a hotel - a selection of Kellogg’s mini cereal boxes, a bowl of natural yogurt, a bowl of water melon and a jug of orange juice!
Dinner was mixed. The 40 day aged beef was good but not served with the sides stated on the menu. When queried these were told that the chef had cooked them but forgot to put them on the plate. The cheesecake ordered for dessert was a deconstructed version served in an ice cream glass and was very dense and unenticing.
- Carlos (8/5): - An excellent place, nice rooms and super friendly staff. The food at the restaurant was great too.
The only limitation we found is that it is quite secluded and a half an hour drive away from Downtown Oxford.
- Shirley (6/5): - Very pleased with accommodation, could have done with a better radiator, not very warm.
- Alun (10/5): - “Our stay was excellent. The hospitality and welcome by all the staff was outstanding”
- Nigel (10/5): - Excellent, accommodating servicecwith lovely food and comfy room and bed
- Gary (10/5): Weekend Break - Excellent service and quality food .
- Paul (8/5): - .
- Deb (10/5): - Great food and accommodation
- Marc (10/5): - Great staff.
- Gordon (8/5): - Very comfortable. Easily accessed from Main road systems
- Stephen (10/5): - A lovely weekend in a superb location. The food was excellent and everyone was so helpful
- Sam (10/5): Lovely village pub hotel. - Lovely hotel and in a very quiet village. Easy to get in and out of oxford as the bus stop is right outside!
Food was great and the staff were all very friendly. Have stayed before and will stay again!
- Will (8/5): Great stay in Hampton Poyle - Really enjoyed my stay at The Bell at Hampton. Very friendly staff, and a really nice little pub. One thing to watch out for - my room didn't have a shower, just a bath, which was probably something I overlooked when booking! Fortunately the bath was very quick to fill
- Paul (10/5): Bell at Hampton - Evening meal in restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast.
