Guest Reviews
- BRIGITTE (10/5): - Perfect space to disconnect and recharge. The staff is amazing, the food delicious and fresh.
- Jeremy (10/5): - A nice lodge with garden, good breakfast, helpful staff, and comfy accommodation. As advertised, and clean. Also, some bird activity in the yard to ease into the first day of our birding trip.
- chanel (10/5): - Staff are welcoming and willing to give you recommendations. It feels as you are staying in a jungle. You hear the animal at night. Even saw some monkeys upon waking up. Restaurant was excellent. Everyone made me feel welcome!!
- Catherine (10/5): - This place is absolutely incredible! Our bungalow was clean and spacious and at night the sounds of nature made it feel like we were in a rainforest sound bath. The restaurant was beautiful, had such delicious, well-priced food we ended up eating there two nights in a row. At breakfast, fruit was set out for the birds so we could watch them as we ate! The butterfly dome on the property was magical. We went on the night walk tour and the sloth tour and really enjoyed both. There were also young sloths in the trees right by the entrance of the property! We didn't have a car, but it was easy to call an Uber and they arrived within minutes. If you are driving, there are spots for cars next to each of the bungalow. What I loved most about the place was how friendly and helpful everyone was. I'd like to send special thanks to Francisco at reception, who was so patient with all my questions and helped us plan our time/set up tours etc. I highly recommend this place!
- Lisa (10/5): - The staff here were amazing and went above and beyond. Special shout out to Juan who was exceptionally kind and went out of his way to make our time special.
- Naomi (8/5): - This place is super special! You're tucked in the rainforest. Sounds of beautiful birds and frogs all around. Great evening walking tour. Breakfast was top notch! Our cabina was so cute and loved having multiple bedrooms and two bathrooms - family option.
- Nikita (10/5): - My husband and I had a wonderful stay here . Everything was perfect.
Would totally recommend this beautiful property
- julia (8/5): - A lovely eco resort. Feels like you’re in the jungle! Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Don’t order the seafood pasta
- Carmen (10/5): - Very nice property with nice sized cabins. The trees and wilderness are incredible. The night frog tour is highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay in the forest - Loved our little cabin. Though we had close neighbours it still felt like you were in the middle of the forest. You could sit on the veranda and just listen to the sounds.
Room was comfortable, though relatively basic. Had everything you needed like some hanging space (plus a full size under counter fridge - slightly randomly placed, but useful!). Bathroom was dated but all clean and working - and good water pressure/temperature.
Breakfast was great, and restaurant reasonably priced on the other occasion we used it.
Trails on the property were good and free to access, plus the butterfly cage. We also went on the night walk on the property (discounted price for guests) and highly recommend. Saw lots for a great price.
In a rarity for Costa Rica there was a full pavement the whole way down to the main town, so you could walk the 2KM or so without going on the road. We stayed here without a car and did that a number of times. Uber also good in this area.
Recommend doing the coffee/chocolate tour at North Fields almost opposite too - great value afternoon.
Overall, this was the most unique accommodation we stayed in, and really glad we did.
- kumaran (10/5): - Arenal oasis is excellent option if you are looking for quiet isolated rustic lush green jungle environment. Full of howler monkeys and colourful birds. Good breakfast, all kind tours, polire customer service.easy 15 min walk to all Ind of restaurants, hot springs. Add another 15 minutes you will be in Fortuna park and downtown. If you are looking to stay around this area literally you don't need car.
- Linda (10/5): - We stayed here for a week in June. It was so peaceful in the jungle with howler monkeys serenading us in the early morning. The bird watching and night walks are fabulous. The food is delicious and the staff made us feel very at home. We plan to visit every year.
- Ibrahim (10/5): - Cozy villas in the heart of the nature
- Nicholas (10/5): Stay in the jungle - This is a great ecolodge if you want to stay right in the jungle. A great destination for birders!
Breakfast was very good too.
- Nicholas (10/5): Stay in the jungle - This is a great ecolodge if you want to stay right in the jungle. A great destination for birders!
Breakfast was very good too.
- Jenae (8/5): Forrest Bathing Vibes - Beautiful location! I have slept in jungles on 2 other continents but Arenal Oasis feels so alive and wild! It’s loud here. Not cars, or traffic but the tree frogs, howler monkeys, chirping insects, song birds. That’s sort of the point of this place, but if you need a quiet environment bring ear plugs to sleep!
Wild life was everywhere- including many poisonous species. Our kids, 5 & 8 understood not to touch anything, but I would not recommending kids any younger as the jungle surrounds these cabins and there is little “safe” space for them to independently explore. This place is geared to bird lovers and naturalist. We were the only family on site, which was fine if you understand the adult nature of the place.
The cabins are immaculate and bug free! However they are poorly ventilated, so be prepared to battle the heat and humidity as there are few breezes and they are not entering your cabin no matter how many windows you have open.
The staff is wonderful, knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend the night tour. The food at the restaurant is fresh, tasty and affordable. We ate there many more times than planned because we loved it.
- Michaelann (6/5): - The hotel forgot about us
We emailed them to left them know our flight changed and we wou5now be arriving late and asked if it was ok or should we cancel our stay
They assured the guard would be there to let us in our room. They did not have anyone there to help us we drove 3 hours to this hotel. So at midnight we were stranded 😞
Most of La fortuna was closed our driver called around to help find us a room at 1am
Then early in the morning we had to Taco quickly back to Arenal Oasis before rafting excuses picking us up there. We only stayed one night at Arenal Oasis
They were sorry we were stranded and stress and obviously didn't charge us for they missed night
But that's it
Staff was nicand polite
Garden was beautiful, loved the vibe
Beds were uncomfortable
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Lots of wildlife and fauna on the property. Location very convenient-close proximity to restaurants and stores but away from the hectic traffic of main commercial area of La Fortuna. Friendly helpful staff but very rustic basic cabin. Our specific cabin needed repairs and update. In the open window/ventilation areas, the mesh screen had many holes which allowed bugs to enter the cabin especially at night when the lights were on.
- Zheng (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings
- john (10/5): Natural Gem - Back to nature with this quaint little paradise. Food is good ans staff is engaging and friendly. Memorable experience.
- Felix (10/5): - Amazing place surrounded by nature
- Kimberly (10/5): - We had a wonderful time. It was very warm in the cabin as there is no air conditioning, just ceiling fans. We were fine but some people may be very uncomfortable .
- Matthew (10/5): - Travelled with family including 2x teenagers. Our favourite place and accommodation in Costa Rica without doubt. We stayed in the bungalow which had everything we need but it’s the setting and nature that makes this unique. I can not recommend highly enough. The Frog Watching Night Tour is a must but so much can be seen on the grounds - monkeys and Sloth on abundance. We loved Arenal Oasis!
- Amanda (10/5): - Convenient and very beautiful property
- Kristen (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay here
- Claire (10/5): - Lovely location in the rainforest. Comfortable accommodation and a good restaurant. Excellent value for money.
- ilenia (10/5): - .
- Michele (10/5): - Cabinas are in the jungle with all the sounds and wildlife around them. Wonderful jungle walking trails and bird watcher's paradise. Restaurant and food was great and great value. Staff so friendly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A unique hotel. Musty smelling rooms. Possibly from not being able to have windows open due to local animals.
- Michael (8/5): - Lovely! Super clean cabin, comfy bed. The howler monkeys are quite loud late at night lol
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not very comfortable - Staff were very friendly and the night frog walk was a great experience. But we didn’t love the rest of our stay. I knew the cabins were rustic, and that would have been fine if they were also comfortable and functional. Our mattress was old and uncomfortable, and should have been replaced a long time ago. Most of the bathroom was taken up by a huge soaking tub (though I’m not sure they even have hot water) but no counter space to set anything out. Also wasn’t impressed with the food at the restaurant. Breakfast was good but dinner was lacking and very slow, despite being the only ones at the restaurant. If I am ever back in the area, I’ll definitely be looking at other options.
- Katheryn (10/5): Amazing!! - This place is amazing! I originally chose Arenal Oasis as it is very environmentally concious lodging, but I had no idea it would was going to be so amazing!!
We arrived late due to our flight being delayed so I called ahead to let the office know and they said no problem. The night guard would let us in. We arrived just before 10pm and the night guard was super nice and welcoming. Our lodge was so cute! Very clean and comfortable. We awoke the next morning to howler monkeys and the other amazing sounds of the jungle. We went down to the restaurant area and was amazed again! The restaurant is open air and the staff puts fruit out for birds and butterflies. You can watch them while you eat! The food is delicious but you have to be patient as it takes time. No problem at all, it's the Pura Vida way!
We also did the night tour and was so amazed at all we saw. Our guide, Harley, was so knowledgeable, funny, and very accommodating to our 4 yr old nature enthusiast daughter. We saw so much! We will definitely return again. Such a wonderful place!
- Justin (10/5): - Sloths were in the trees above us!
- ANTONIOS (10/5): Cabins right into nature !!! - Excellent lodge with wooden cabins right into the forest. You hear the birds and at night you may be awaken by the sounds of howler monkeys !!! So so natural experience. Breakfast is very nice in a beautiful corner of the facility...nice gardens and somw hiking routes behind the cabins.
Excellent accommodation for an introduction in Costa Rican nature! I would certainly come again. Highly recommended !
- Andrea (10/5): - Beautiful, quiet place, awesome on-site tours and amazing wildlife!
- Gary (10/5): - Great experience for getting in touch with the natural beauty of the surrounding jungle, birds, and wildlife. The night time frog tour through their property in the jungle was awesome. Jose David was our guide and did an excellent job of finding various frogs and other wildlife as we made our through their paths. His knowledge of the different species was equally amazing. Another highlight was watching the squirrels and a variety of birds eating the fruit laid out for them while we were eating our breakfast in the property breakfast area.
- Rosa (10/5): - Everything was great!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very happy - Loved our stay. Better than what I expected. First, it is not one of those typical resort, so don't expect super luxurious rooms. It's an eco lodge. But it beat my expectations of an eco lodge. We were welcomed by a super friendly staff. Our cottage felt like we are inaide the rainforest (which we were). There was sufficient space between cottages. Rooms were super comfy...spacious bathroom with a huge bath tub. Breakfast was very healthy and tasty with view and sound of birds. There is a trail and tours inside the lodge but I did not experience them. The location was perfect...away from noise of town yet close to all locations (waterfall..less than 10mim drive. Arenal hike..15min drive tops). Less than 5mim drive to convenience store and restaurants. Very happy with our stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful grounds. Loved the night tour!! Staff was all very helpful and kind. Breakfast was good and watching the birds while eating was a wonderful bonus. Wish the fan in the room had been able to move the air better as the room was quite stuffy and warm during the day/evening. However, it was cool enough to sleep comfortably at night.
- venkatesh (10/5): - This place is located
- Veronica (10/5): - Amazing place, you are right in the jungle 😁
- Verified traveler (8/5): - In the rainforest. I felt like I was in the enchanted tiki room at Disneyland. Great little cabin. Sounds of birds, monkeys, frogs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location beautiful scene and good customer service.
- Edward (10/5): - Individual cabins in the rainforest
Fells like you are part of nature
Wildlife everywhere
Excellent food
This is rustic relaxing and overall amazing .. like camping but with electricity and hot water
- Annie (10/5): A true cultural experience - This is a one of a kind hotel.... Not really quiet at night due to wildlife but beautiful for what it is. A true experience.
- DJ (10/5): - Nestled in the jungle! The cabins are maybe 50-feet from one another, but the vegetation is so thick that it feels like you are completely alone! This would be great for a family of four or five. The kitchen and bathrooms were great. The breakfast was wonderful. The trails on the property were a great introduction to other hikes that the La Fortuna area has to offer. We loved it!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a perfect hotel for those who love nature and want to be in the middle of the jungle but still be close to town. The hotel has an excellent walking trail within the property that I highly recommend. If I had more time, I would stay at this hotel longer. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included, although the food was average.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - An amazing and unique place. The cottage was beautiful and the restaurant on the premises is great, the food organic and tasty. Sitting at the restaurant looking at the animals and birds picking on the fruits that are put out for them by the staff was just that extra special. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The trail at arenal oasis is definitely worth the walk and I can also recommend the night hike with a guide. Arenal waterfall is also close by and we did it by foot, about an half hour walk. We found a gem in this place and i will definitely highly recommend staying here. No need for an alarm clock as you might be woken up by the howler monkeys which was awesome :-)
- Amy (10/5): An Authentic Experience - My whole family loved our stay at Arenal Oasis. It is truly an authentic experience and there is so much love put into this place. The homemade breakfast was delicious and my kids still rave about the hot chocolate and fresh pancakes. We also ate dinner there and it was delicious. Make sure you book the on-site night Frog Tour. It is so neat to see and learn about all of the jungle frogs, reptiles, and insects.
The cabins are very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here!
- Kristy (10/5): - Rustic charm yet modern amenitities. We enjoyed the nature, free breakfast and the frog tour. They were helpful with booking activities last minute.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay if you love a tropical atmosphere. Property is beautiful. Room is nice
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the peace and quiet. Very relaxing. Watching the birds at breakfast was really great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A little log cabin in the middle of the jungle. We loved it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good food. Excellent bird feeders at restaurant. Lots of well organized tours with good guides. Lots of wildlife in this small property of second growth forest.
- Giselle (10/5): - What a fabulous place! The little cabins are perfectly adorable and the staff was beyond friendly. The restaurant was very nice, always willing to accommodate us. The grades are very pretty but what is truly impressive are the entire forest surrounding the cabins. Would highly recommend.
- Annika (10/5): Jungle cabins by the volcano - Wonderful staff and surrounding. Don't miss the breakfast with the birds.
- David (10/5): Amazing - Beautiful spacious cottages in a hummingbird infested rainforest, very close to the waterfalls. We were leaving early so they prepared a very tasty takeaway breakfast. Breakfast is included for free. The only thing that needs fixing is the shower - due to bad design water flooded all over the bathroom. Taxi to town is 2,000 colones (3-4 USD).
- Frank (10/5): Clean and quiet - The staff was friendly. The room was clean and well furnished. The setting was peaceful
- Scott (10/5): The best “Rana” experience!! - We checked in late and thought that we had missed our frog (rana) tour but were pleasantly surprised that the staff were completely understanding and personally walked us to join up with the tour guide on the trail where we were met with a really warm and educated tour guide who introduced us to many aspected of the surrounding rainforest (all on the property). We saw vipers, multiple species of frogs, rare moths and other insects. The accommodation itself was very clean and quite quaint - each cabin is perfectly staged and comfortable. We really liked the rocking chairs on the porch where we enjoyed listening to the sounds of the rainforest. All of this is steps away from town, making it easy to go out for dinner/drinks, but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be relaxing. The following morning we were cooked a warm traditional Costa Rican breakfast with the rainforest as the backdrop. A great experience and one we would recommend.
- Garreth (8/5): Rainforest Experience - I knew what to expect when booking the Arenal Oasis - a rustic lodge in the middle of the rainforest. Although, I was a little disappointed that they didn't do more to prevent bugs entering the room (e.g a significant gap under the front door). The bedding within the room also got damp, due to the humid conditions.
The staff are fantastic - always wanting to help. They are a credit to the business. The breakfast is also cooked, fresh to order.
- EdLisa (10/5): Very Unique Hotel in the heart of the Jungle - We very much enjoyed our time at Arenal Oasis. The Front Desk staff were very knowledgeable and helpful booking our excursions. Our check in was very prompt and efficient. The pathway to the individual bungalows is uneven and gravel with rocks, quite manageable for us, but might be difficult if you had heavy wheeled luggage or were physically challenged. The room was very clean and maid took the time each day to make us feel special with her lovely towel/flower creations. The restaurant had a very good full breakfast which was included in the price. At times the service could be slow, but numbers varied from 2 to 20 people so I imagine it was harder for them to manage . We were never in a hurray so it was not an issue for us. They left fresh fruit out near the restaurant to attract the birds, many local and exotic species could be seen while you ate. Most staff were easily able to communicate in English and other languages. The Night Frog Hike is a must see - don't miss it. Our guide Oscar was so knowledgeable and it was an amazing experience. The location of this hotel has easy access to many tours and excursions that pick you up at the lobby. We have already recommended this place to other travellers and hope they enjoy it as much as we did.
- Carla (8/5): Natural setting in the forest - The Oasis was a wonderful introduction to Arenal area. It is a no frills set up but what is offered is wonderful. It is not far from town or most attractions but you either need a car or taxi to get around. The restaurant had simple but very tasty authentic food with a wonderful staff. If it rains, the Frog tour is the best. The guides are incredibly knowledgable and fun. We saw snakes and 14 varieties of frogs and toads; the wet weather was important for this. We stayed in the villa which is the largest and newest building. It is very spacious and can work for a family easily. The grounds around it are still a bit construction like (there is only a gravel parking area) but if you have a car it is fine. The staff are great: helpful with everything. WiFi is sketchy but that can be a good thing. My one suggestion is to have more areas on the grounds with benches or seats to sit and enjoy the landscape. We had a great 4 days there.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Gave away my room - Booked the room and when I arrived it had been given away. I had driven 4.5 hours and very tired on New Years Eve. Thanks for nothing Arenal Oasis. Much appreciated....
- Corey (10/5): Roomy, clean in the jungle - Room is spacious and clean. So is the bathroom. lots of wood. Plenty of space between cabins. Jungle setting. Really enjoyed the free breakfast while watching the large variety of birds come to feed on fruit close to our table. Easy to spend too much time with your camera and not eat. easy drive to town and many tours, hot springs, hanging bridges, and the Arenal volcanoe. Really liked this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel was as described. The separate little cabins are charming, breakfast was good, and the trails around the property are a bonus. Note: wifi is not available in the cabins themselves, only the common dining area.
- Angella (8/5): Tranquil Stay - Arenal Oasia is a quiet and calm area, secluded from the main part of town. We did walk daily to the town center of La Fortuna, which tim about 30 minutes each way. A local cab ride to town was about $4 usd. Arenal Oasis is a quick cab ride to the waterfall for the same amount, we chose to walk back which was around an hour and all down hill. We were able to see spectacular, clear views of the volcano! The room itself was kept tidy by the wonderful staff. One of our favorite parts of the room was the huge bathtub! Amazing after a day exploring. We only ate at the restaurant at Arenal Oasis for breakfast and it was delicious, Daniel the server was sincere and funny! Don't forget your bug spray, the restaurant was the area we saw the most mosquitos. If you can afford it I highly recommend the night frog tour Arenal offers! It is one of the best things we have done here so far. The guides are so knowledgable, not only with amphibians, but also insects, mammals, plants, adaptations, etc. And they know and share every tip in helping so all of your photos of the nightlook professional! It was a once in a lifetime experience for myself.
- Michael (10/5): Amazing lodge - Great stay in a fabulous location in La Fortuna. The cabins are awesome. Spacious, spotlessly clean, and comfortable. While you are just a few minutes drive from town you feel like you are really in the rain forest. Staff was exceptionally friendly. Highly recommended.
- Brenda (10/5): La Fortuna - Really enjoyed our stay at Arenal oasis!! Great outside breakfast area and staff was fantastic. The bungalows were very clean and each have a little porch. The day we were there the howler monkeys were hanging out above the bungalow way cool! Highly recommend
- Matthew (8/5): - Nice place to spend a night or two with good rates and nice large cabins.
- Maria (8/5): - It was a nice size cabin which we enjoyed since we love the outdoors. The people were amazing from the gardener to the cook. Loved this place. Breakfast was awesome. Yes, I would love to returned someday.
- Dorothea (8/5): Great birdwatching lodge otherwise skip it - Went here for bird walk in am which was truly marvelous. Cabin in the wood with 2 separate bedrooms, beds too big for rooms. Also a living room with single bed...no fan so stuffy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful location, private rooms - Excellent experience. Food was good. Rooms were clean. I would go back in a heartbeat. We asked front desk for cards and he actually wemt out of his way to find us some. Def stay here if in arenal and you looking for a good stay with resort feel.
- Mike and Linda (10/5): Very nice setting in rain forest. - Close access to water falls, zip lining, hot springs, rain forests excursions, etc. Great food as well.
- Annika (10/5): Great location, right in the jungle - Friendly staff, the cabins were spacious and quiet. The only sounds we heard were animals.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very pleasant place. Felt like I was in the jungle, and had lots of privacy. Everyone was really nice. Rooms didn't have any wi-fi, tv, or phones. Just the way that I like it!
- debbie (10/5): Excellent staff and good location. - We had a great time here at Arenal Oasis. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with our accommodations and booking outside activities. The Kitchen staff, Daniel and his wife Jocelyn, were very accommodating and even made a special breakfast for our son; which he very much enjoyed. They were fun and very helpful with learning the local language. Walter at the front desk was especially helpful. We left our passports behind in their front desk safe and they made special arrangements for us to get them to us the next morning at our hotel near the airport so that we wouldn't miss our flight. They saved us from having to rent another car, drive all the way back to Arenal and then back again to San Jose in one night. Mucho-Mucho Gracias to Walter and Rebecca. Our guide Isaac for the frog walk was awesome as well. We will definitely come back.
- Z (8/5): Peaceful with amazing staff! - I stayed at this Eco-lodge with my friend just for one night, upon arrival Walter in the reception area welcomed us and even walked us to our bungalow (#4), he was really nice and accommodating and even told us that in case of emergency when the reception is closed, the owners of the place can be contacted near by the reception area any time. They also offer a night frog walk tour for a small fee.
The bungalow is comfortable, you can hear animals in the background. There was no airconditioner and only a ceiling fan, it gets cold at night in the middle of the rainforest so no big deal. Water pressure was alright, and there was hot water. They offer clothes washing services where you have to pay but I believe drying is free of charge.
On the day we had to leave, we had to leave very early for our excursion - we were able to eat some fruits in the breakfast area where there are birds chirping flying and watching you eat. We talked to the staff if it is possible for us to even have some bread to go, he was so nice to even offer to talk to our tourguide so we could have even 15mins to eat, but we really had to leave so he made up to-go breakfast of toast bread, scrambled eggs and a banana!
Walk to town by the La Fortuna church is about half an hour for us - its a long walk but you can find restaurants within 15 mins walk to the main road to town. Stay here if you want to be with nature, no wifi in the rooms - only in reception and restaurant
