Guest Reviews
- Robyn (10/5): -
- Camilla (9/5): Great location and friendly staff - Very friendly staff and big rooms in an excellent location.
- chris (10/5): -
- Greg (9/5): Great overall experience - Great location for Durbar square. The staff were amazing helping with taxi bookings at weird times, general suggestions on what to do. The manager was fantastic.
- Gion (9/5): - Very friendly and helpful - thank you!,
- Greg (9/5): - Great location helpful staff. Food is good as well.
- Angela (10/5): We spent a week in Kathmandu and had a great time - The location was amazing, the staff exceptional. We loved our time there Breakfast could be rather slow in being served
- Shervin (10/5): Lovely heritage building stay. An oasis near Kathmandu Durbar Square. - Top tier location! It's literally adjacent to the popular Kathmandu Durbar Square, and yet just removed enough to remain peaceful throughout the day. You can walk to Thamel in about 15 minutes. Nights were quiet up until sunrise when the area springs to life, so bring earplugs if you need to sleep in. The building is old yet beautiful. The rooms were large and felt clean. We really enjoyed the dining areas, both the courtyard and the eatery in the front building. Their food is good, and their cappuccinos are on point!
The staff members, especially the younger ones who we interacted with most, were very friendly and considerate. We were helped with supplies, printing documents, and reserving early morning taxis.
(There were some mixed reviews here about the showers, so I'd like to comment about that. We went in with the expectation that this is indeed a heritage building with old plumbing. That being said, it was fine! The shower sometimes took a long time to heat up, like on the scale of minutes, but it worked.) I probably missed this in the description, but guests should plan to pay in cash. Stock up on rupees at the airport, since credit card payments will incur a higher charge.

- Robert (10/5): -
- Clare (10/5): Wonderful stay in the heart of Durbar square - Wonderful location, with an entrance directly out to Durbar square. The building had an original design and rooms were well equipped and spacious. The staff were so friendly and attentive and welcoming. The food in the restaurant and breakfast was great. We would stay here next visit to Kathmandu. Hot water for showers a little tempermental depending on solar panels.
- Kristian Ørnemose (7/5): Meget central beliggenhed - Meget central beliggenhed
Hyggelig miljø omkring maden
Stort værelse Lunkent vand i bruseren
Kedelig rooftop
- Pantony (10/5): Very welcoming and helpful - The people, the room, the authenticity I couldn’t stay longer
- Anna (10/5): Nice stay - Beautiful building and room, great location, the courtyard and view from the terrace was amazing looking over Durbar square. The restaurant food was really good. Staff were friendly and arranged me a taxi at 6am. I think the place is too expensive for what it is. As a westerner the price is below what I would pay in Europe for somewhere like this. But after going to other places in Nepal the price is just too high even for a nice room. I think if you are planning on spending more time in the property it is more worth it instead of just using it as a base.
- Jureerut (10/5): - Very good place
- christine (10/5): -
So weit so gut.
- John (10/5): - This is a must stay for anyone who wants to stay in a historic building, steps from Durbar Square. But the real appeal for me was the wonderful people who work there. They always had a kind word, offered suggestions and help whenever I needed it and made me feel like a part of their family.
- Nirupama (9/5): Superb -

- Michael (10/5): We’ve spent a wonderful time in the Dwarika‘s Chen. - If you want to stay in the heart of Kathmandu and not in the tourist-area of Thamel, this is the place to go. We love it. Our home away from home in Kathmandu, just 100 m from Durbar Square. A beautiful house and the staff is wonderful. 1000 thanks for the farewell-ceremony on the day we left. You are all wonderful, we love you. Thanks for all. We definitely will come back. Greatings from the dephts of our hearts, Sabine and Michael Nothing
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best location by Durbar - It's right next to the Durbar, a very convenient location. The staffs were very nice and helpful. We also liked the hotel restaurant. If you want to stay in a building with history, you will enjoy it.
- Peter (9/5): Perfect location in a heritage site - Food and Service was great Heating in winter is a bit difficult if traveling with a child, but that applies to nearly everywhere in Khatmandu
- Claire (7/5): Good -
- Michaela (8/5): Very good - It was a pleasure to stay in a wonderful old house. The owner and the staff are kind and always ready to help. The rooms are big and very nicely furnished, mine was really quiet. I travelled in winter time and I did not expect the heating (which was the case), it was not a problem for me but it is something to consider. Bathroom is simple. In other words, this hotel is for those who appreciate atmosphere over comfort of modern hotels. My room had no view but there is plenty of it from other sitting areas in the hotel - I really enjoyed seeing the temples and being immersed in the local atmosphere. The location is great, right round the corner from Durbar square and close to good dining options and shops. ONe can also eat righ in the hotel restaurant, I enjoyed the food. Warm water was hard to get but there is a kettle in the room so it's easy to make warm bucket bath. Wifi was not always working.
- Sapkota (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mariia (10/5): Exceptional - Clean aesthetic room in the historical center of the city. Cosy hotel, nice standard breakfast, fully recommend this place to stay, you will like it I promise ❤
Special thanks to the polite and attentive hotel staff
- Caroline (9/5): Pretty perfect and we would recommend people staying here. - Perfect location, just around the corner from DurbarSquare. Beautiful traditional hotel. Food there was excellent, best we had in Nepal! Staff were so very helpful & friendly. Bathroom could have been just a tad cleaner, but not complaining. There was plenty of hot water.
- Sara (9/5): Beautiful heritage hotel - Very nice hotel, 10 meters from durbar square, they gave me free room upgrade, the staff is very kind and friendly they did the Hindu ceremony for me Everything was super
- Binaya (10/5): Would love to stay there again! - The Newari-styled room was very spacious with all the necessary amenities. The mattress on the bed was a little more springy than I prefer. Otherwise, perfect!
- Niru (9/5): Superb - First and foremost, the location is excellent, making it convenient to explore the area and the hotel was impeccably clean, which made my stay even more enjoyable.
- Alessandro (6/5): - Muito gostoso e simples
- barbara (8/5): - I am so happy to have found this hotel again. The area is amazing, the hotel is cozy, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
They do however, need to update the hotel information. They no longer have rooms with bathtubs. This is a minor point to an overall amazing stay.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - It is a really beautiful place with so much attention to detail, all decorated in traditional style with nice big open spaces, you can enjoy tea or a meal in different areas like the restaurant, cafe, courtyard or garden. The staff are all very nice and friendly, location couldn’t be better just off Durbar Square and food was really tasty as well. It feels special to be in such a place, so peaceful and authentic yet in the very heart of the city.
- María (1/5): Very bad - Well, with this accommodation I had a problem, that although the hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and the staff is very friendly, I had dinner the second day there at the hotel, I ordered a hamburger, I ate the whole thing and with such bad luck for me it was bad and I spent the whole night in the bathroom, very sick, unable to sleep because of the pain in my stomach. The next day I told the girl and she asked me if I had eaten anything out and I told her no because I had not eaten anything out, which had been the hamburger and she replied that she was sorry and that she was going to tell the kitchen and when I went to pay she charged me for the hamburger and I thought it was terrible and I told her I paid for everything but I didn't have to have paid for the hamburger so I wouldn't go back to this place again. Hotel.
- Alan (8/5): - Amazing property. Great character.
Good nights sleep. Noisy.
Would have liked a fridge in room.
Shower was cold. Good WiFi.
Great valve for money. Will stay here again.
- Noor (1/5): They r gentile - Historical Dirty
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - staff ..lovely room nice breakfast. the lady on reception was extremely professional polite and a pleasure to talk to .. a credit to the hotel nothing
- Catharina (9/5): the hotel was a quiet sanctuary after the busy streets of Kathmandu. - the location was perfect for us to walk anywhere and we could start the day with a great breakfast!! beautiful hotel
- Kohin (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): - Incredible property on the edge of Dubar Square.
- Pascale (8/5): Very nice, well located, good value for money hotel in Unesco heiitage area - Beautiful renovated Newari house on Durbar Square. Super nice manager. Big room and good value for money. It is very busy around the hotel and can be noisy depending where your room is.
- Daniel (10/5): Location, Location, LOCATION - The location is the best. The check-in gentlemen were great! GREAT service staff. Walk out the back door and you are on Durbar Square. Very quiet location. Great restaurant attached. Nice large room. WiFi good at all times. Decent Hot water, could be hotter. They brought a refrigerator to my room, THANK YOU. I loved the period heritage furnishings. AA+++ Visit. Thank you, Daniel - USA Nothing - Great stay!
- Filip (9/5): Superb -
- Danil (10/5): You need a good sleep in Fabled Kathmandu and this place would be a great choice to make your dreams come true! - The location is right next to Durbar Square and if you want to be in the middle of Kathmandu with all that hustle and bustle, that’s the right choice. In my humble opinion, the staff could pay a bit more attention to the overall state of things, be it a broken lamp or a dusty cupboard. But these are just minor things that you don’t really pay attention to.
- T. (10/5): Loved the place - The traditional Nepali ambience/feel and hospitality No lift / elevator but luckily it was only a 3 storey walk-up
- Jeff (8/5): - So I have to admit that this place did grow on me after awhile. When I first arrived , things at the hotel were closed (9:45 PM), but in the morning, I discovered a nice cafe and friendly staff. This made the Everestlike climb up to my 6th floor room a little more tolerable.
Of course, lack of WiFi in the top room was a bummer, but it worked fine the cafe so I was fine. And the view in the top room really was spectacular. Given the chance, I’d stay here again.
- Lee (8/5): Comfortable and well located - WHH has a fantastic location next to Durbar Square, although some travelers may prefer to be in Thamel. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the breakfasts are good. The room was large and comfortable and we slept well. We weren’t able to get hot water for a shower when we were there but that may have been an issue of the timing and availability of hot water.
The road to the hotel is narrow and very busy so allow for this in your timings.
- Horst Josef (8/5): - Personal super, besonders
Sajina Lama. Küche super. Alles frisch zubereitet. Keine Konservierungsstoffe, keine Geschmacksverstärker etc. !!!
- Olga (10/5): Exceptional - The building, the decorations, location and staff Nothing
- Charles (10/5): Great Location - Lovely hotel with very friendly staff in a great location. Rooms are large and individual. Internet access is reliable. Hot water works fine but needs to be run for quite a while before it gets hot. Highly recommended.
- G (9/5): Superb - Excellent location, nice and professional staff, very good food, very big room. Nothing.
- Hiralal (7/5): Facilities should be imporved. - The location is good and the room is good. The guard was very helpful while checking out. The check-in experience initially wasn't pleasant. Although the room was good, the facilities were not maintained. There was no shampoo in the bathroom. The kettle wasn't working and I couldn't drink warm water in the morning. The seat on the comet was broken.
- Francis (9/5): Superb -
(10/5): A very comfortable and enjoyable stay experience - The hotel location is very convenient; Its architecture is full of local characteristics; The overall environment is clean and hygienic; The hotel owner and waiters are enthusiastic and hospitable, and they also understand English and Chinese。 Occasional shortage of hot water supply
- Peter (9/5): very nice - - very friendly people
- perfect location for visiting historic places
- very close to kumari
- 5 min riksha ride to tamel
- good restaurant
- communication was excellent - breakfast not included
- Hannah (10/5): Great spot! Good people, happy environment in a happening part of town! Highly recommend - The location is perfect, the food is great at the restaurant. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Very safe place in a great part of town.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - Room was really big and I got one facing the internal courtyard, hence I had a very silent night.Which is very rare in Kathmandu-which is genuinly the city that never sleeps. Nothing
- Tenzing (2/5): Disappointed - The nepali breakfast was good and the location of the hotel was very convenient. The room was too small and it smelled wet because there was no ventilation in the toilet and the shower didn’t work and no hot water. No amenities except for 1 toilet paper and 2 tiny soaps. We booked double room and there was only 1 towel. The room wasn’t tidied and furnished very minimally. Just very disappointed overall especially considering the price we paid. Very disappointed.
- Danil (8/5): Very good -
- Danil (8/5): Very good -
- Dhanushka (4/5): Disappointing - Can get some experience about Nepali architecture. 5 mins walk to Kathmandu Durbar square They charged money before check in. If we saw the room before paying money we would not stay there. Staff is not friendly except one girl.
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good - Great location, lovely atmosphere The shower
- Marcus (10/5): Amazing location, friendly staff. - This is an amazing place, especially if you like history: next to the Durbar, with a connecting door just behind the octagonal Krishna temple. An old Newari style house with courtyard and traditional locks on room doors. Hot water took a little while but everything worked fine, including wifi; drinking water was provided. Staff were very friendly and helpful -- thanks for a wonderful stay! Nothing really.
- Eliza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ritesh (9/5): Superb - Newari style
- Maharjan (7/5): Good -
- Nomadic (2/5): Very poor - Please, do yourself a favor, don't stay here, at least in Standart rooms. They are facing the road and extremely noisy, even at night. No soundproofing at all. Ear blocks doesn't help. Cancelled stay and left hotel completely sick. Cold (you get a heater) And no hot water! You have to search around the hotel for the staff asking them to switch the hot water ON. And wait. And next time you need it, do all the same again. And again. Because "somebody, somewhere switched it off". What is this?!
Had to cancel our stay here after 1 night.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Javiruz (4/5): Disappointing - Good location between Durbar Square and Thamel Bathroom and bed
- Dietmar (8/5): Very good -
- Mashafrost (10/5): Exceptional -
- Saleem (9/5): World Heritage Hotel has old world charm and new world service in the heart of old Kathmandu! - My week-long stay at the World Heritage Hotel and Apartments (Dwarika Chhen) was terrific. The property is very rustic with modern amenities. The staff is highly attentive. The breakfast was excellent. Sitting in the lobby at a large plate glass window looking out onto the busy street was a perfect way to watch the city go by from a quiet, comfortable spot. The hotel is very conveniently located off the corner of Kathmandu's Durbar Square and the wonderful early morning Asan fruit and vegetable market. There are loads of local tea and food spots to enjoy just out the door to the left. The more touristy Thamel area is an easy 10 minute walk. My deluxe double room (the one in the hotel's pictures online) was very spacious. The room has no AC or heat, but my trip in November had excellent weather (52 to 75 F) and I was extremely comfortable. The shower in the room was very hot and cleansing after a day of work and adventuring - just give it 5 minutes to bring the hot water to the tap. Go all the way upstairs and enjoy an incredible view over the Durbar Square area! The staff arranged for taxi's as needed and were able to make some recommendations for different items I was looking for. Be prepared for a classically built property with loads of character and charm - it was just what I wanted. The deluxe room is attached to another room in the hotel through an interior french-style door. I had to secure the interior door on my own so people could not enter my room from the connecting room.
- Milena (9/5): Superb -
- Arizona (6/5): Not bad for a third world country, but won't stay again. - Probs: historical building, INCREDIBLE staff, convenience of location Cons: good is terrible, nice were seen running across the dining room floor, hot water only in the day, no air conditioning
- Rolf (10/5): - Amazing!
- KEANCHEE (10/5): - Very friendly staff and owner who worked in Malaysia before... Able to speak Malay language to me which was a surprise!
Very kind of them to give me a free upgrade to their deluxe room.
Wifi working, less than 1 min walk to Durbar Square which is the most happening place in Kathmandu!
Hot shower only have very hot water coming out.
Need some ear plugs if u plan to sleep early as the traffic noise can be disturbing.
Overall good experience.
- Douglas (10/5): - Amazing location and great value.
- Zach (10/5): - Beautiful old hotel. A property owned by the same family for hundreds of years. The building itself was amazing and located on a bustling street on the outskirts of Durbar Square it was the perfect base to explore Kathmandu. The staff were polite, helpful and kind. The food at the hotel restaurant was great and it was easy arranging for taxis through the hotel. We were even gifted with marigold garlands and tikas after leaving for other parts of Nepal. It can’t be beat, especially at such a low price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place is unique-we stayed there 6 nights all together during 3 weeks of visiting Nepal. We always got the same room. The hotel is situated right on Durbar Square, on the festival days of Dasha in it even offered a short direct way to the place, where Nepali traditional life has its center. Do not expect it to be very quiet..., but in this case you should not come to Kathmandu at all (and you would definitely miss out something!!) .
The touristic area of Thamel is NOTHING in comparison. It is simply too much!! In the city center you will see no short pants and sleeveless tops for instance.
Staff is friendly and helpful, Taxis are always around the corner. At night the drivers sleep in their car and like to drive you to the airport in early morning.
To sum up and say it again:nice place in a perfect spot (you can sit on the rooftop listening to bells, chants, people...)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Endroit magnifique, bien situé, personnel sympathique
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Namaste danke Tank your
Gut Hotel gutes Essen danke
- Verified traveler (8/5): overview - The staff and owners are lovely, The hotel room is clean and complimentary water is given. There are no complimentary toiletries or tea/coffee, which is surprising when paying for standard or deluxe rooms. breakfast is not included but can be bought. Close to a popular square, that you have to pay to walk through and about 25 mins walk to centre of tourist area.
- Andrew (8/5): Well located out of the tourist center - This property is located just feet away from Durbar Square in Kathmandu. The location is great, but also a little hard to get to by car given the traffic challenges of old Kathmandu. But if you plan to walk, it is a great place. It is outside of the tourist center of Thamel, but close enough to access it if that is what you want. The property is nice, the service is good and the food is good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Authentic Hotel In Durbar Square - If you want a more authentic Newari experience, this is the hotel for you. Its location right next to Durbar Square is wonderful but you have to hoof about 10 minutes if you want to get to Thamel. You can get a cab or rickshaw, but where is the fun in that? The deluxe room is comfortable albeit without a television and central heat--it got a little chilly at night as the space heater didn't really keep up. I really like my experience here and felt like I was in the real Nepal and not fenced off in one of the tourist hotels.
- Joachim (10/5): Perfect location! - very friendly and overall helpful staff, great heritage building in central location
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great experience - A great experience on my stay with them, a heritage building. They are very friendly and helpful. They provide good and nice food too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing - Amazing for me to stay here, a place that allow me to experience staying in local building and is it very convenience location
- Verified traveler (10/5): So close to Durbar Square - Very friendly and helpful staff. Well appointed room, and great reception area.
Worthwhile visit!! Safe travel ceremony was such a pleasant surprise!
- Verified traveler (8/5): friendly hotel :) - Nice location :)
Nice interior :)
Nice staff :)
