Guest Reviews
- Cesar (10/5): - The Host amazing, kindness, and sweet lady and helps with everything you may need.
- Daniel (8/5): - Nice place, nice pool and surrounding
- Joshua (10/5): - the owners where fantastic will be back again
- duane (6/5): - We left early for a tour and staff made us a fruit plate and coffee as we were too early for breakfast. Rooms were noisy, we were in a center room which had 4 neigbours and noise from above as well. Room was not cleaned. Pool was cold, and dirty, especially for the price as it was more expensive than most. Beautiful location in tropical setting. Not close to ocean.
- Priscila (10/5): - Excellent stay
- Jenny (2/5): - This hotel should not be a hotel. People should not be spending money to stay in this horrible place because you will not be able to sleep. The noise level is horrendous. People walking on the room upstairs all night, and I mean all night. The reception area closed at 7:00 and n one to complain about the noise. The room smells dirty. The bathroom smells like urine. The towels are dirty. The AC makes a horrible noise. There was a DJ who played music until 12:00 am, and no one to complain.
- shahin (2/5): - Old hotel. Nothing works and everything is broke
- JOSE MANUEL (8/5): - Muy buen Hotel
- Colette (8/5): - This place was very good for our 1 night stop. The highlights were the owners, their dog, the AC and the delicious dinner. Room was basic. Mattress basic. Shower adequate. Road noise was loud. Just bring earplugs. Little pool looked good although we did not use it. Monkeys in the trees.
- etecoetecoeletroniqe (10/5): Hôtel Samsara - Upon entering the Samsara Hotel, it’s easy to see why it comes so highly recommended. Here, nature is not just a backdrop but a key design element, seamlessly blending comfort with the rustic allure of the great outdoors.
From the moment of arrival, the staff greets each guest with warm smiles, making the check-in process swift and pleasant. The well-trained team strikes a perfect balance of professionalism and genuine care, going above and beyond to ensure a stay that’s as memorable as it is relaxing.
What makes Samsara Hotel stand out is its bold approach to using natural materials in its design. Almost everything you see is made of wood, adding to the immersive experience. This tasteful approach doesn’t just stop at structural design. The hotel’s furniture, from the comfortable, wooden beds to the dining sets, is thoughtfully chosen to maintain this consistency.
Awakening in Samsara is no ordinary experience. The melodious symphony of birds singing provides a natural morning call, while the gentle aroma of fresh flowers drifts in to kick-start your day. It’s this dedication to preserving a close bond with nature that provides an exceptionally tranquil atmosphere.
Every aspect of Samsara Hotel is intentionally designed to offer guests a natural sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s an oasis of calm where you can truly unwind and reconnect with the essential elements of life.
To anyone looking for an escape into nature without compromising on luxury and service, the Samsara Hotel is a sterling choice. A stay here promises to be more than just a trip – it’s a transformative journey into the heart of nature itself.
So, whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or a solo retreat, Samsara Hotel is ready to welcome you. With its enchanting natural charm and top-tier service, it’s an experience that should be on every traveler’s list.
- Jason (2/5): Estafa - Reservé un hotel que lo primero que me dijeron es
1) no está el de recepción
Lo segundo
2) no se puede usar la piscina
Lo último
3) no tenemos servicio de restaurante
- David (8/5): - Location and friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Recommend - The hotel is really nice and has a great pool. Lots of wildlife around. Woke up to the sounds of monkeys and birds
- Christopher (10/5): Wonderful hotel on a beautiful property - A wonderful hotel located on a beautiful property right along the main highway. My wife and I only stayed the night as a stop over along our trip to the Osa, but we will definitely be back. This property is well worth a few days stay if you enjoy comfort surrounded by nature. We will most definitely be back!
- 787randallr (6/5): A gentle warning - I can't recommend this hotel. There are a number of good points: helpful staff, attractive building, nice pool, convenient location. But the bad points are pretty strong and mostly have to do with the building itself. It looks nice, but has no noise insulation, so you hear both your neighbors and the busy road outside. I was wakened at 1 am by a truck downshifting on the curvy hill, and although that was the only one that woke me up, i was listening to them the whole time i was in the room. The room itself just isn't finished well. There's an overhead light with a bare bulb, a table lamp with a shade that doesn't fit, and the switch for the bathroom light is not only outside the door, but on the wrong side so you have to walk completely outside the bath to turn on the light you should have got on the way in.
I realize these are not big issues. We finished our 2 night stay. The price is reasonable in an area where there are not many bargains. If this hotel meets your needs, come book. But don't bring high expectations.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely experience at a hotel that ought to receive more well-deserved attention to it. It's cosy, very clean, in overall good shape despite COVID-19 and very well managed by its staff and owners, who proved most kind at going off their comfort zone - - got us a much needed 4x4 taxi to help us arrive on time to a film shoot of ours. Thank you for everything really!
- luis (6/5): - Todo muy bien en general, muy agradable el lugar, las personas que nos atendieron atentas y un sendero muy relajante hacia la playa.
como sugerencia coordinar con otros asistentes para respetar horarios nocturnos en zona de habitaciones
- bfreeman9 (10/5): Amazing stay with Raul, Sibila & Max!!! - Raul and Sibila are the most excellent hosts!!! We felt like instant friends yet also like pampered guests! And who wouldn’t love the hotel dogs?!! Max was a wonderful beach guide and playmate. Very comfortable room with fabulous air conditioning, amazing food and cocktails, relaxing pool area, beautiful secluded beach, convenient location - who could ask for more!!! Can’t wait to visit again!!’
- andycasi (6/5): On highway but access to beach - The hotel is located along the highway with not many business around so if you are walking your choices are limited as to where to eat unless you opt for a taxi wherever you go. Also, the big trucks going past were loud. The hotel does have a direct path to the Ballena park beach so this is very convenient. The A/C in the rooms is a big plus.
- Mark-backpackbirdy (8/5): Very friendly staff and good rooms - Very helpful and friendly staff and management!
Rooms are spacious, have good beds, AC and a proper shower.
Rooms are noisy though. We literally heard
our neighbor snoring.
We do recommend this place though!
- AlandMary (8/5): Very welcoming hotel, lovely hosts - We spent a few nights with Raul and his wife. They were so friendly and welcoming. (Plus the two lovely dogs)
Our room was basic and we did hear the traffic on the road during the night. However everything else was great. The pool was very refreshing, and beautiful gardens. We walked to the beach on the trail. It was a bit more challenging than we expected! Muddy, so wear good shoes.
We were slightly disappointed with Uvita as a village but we did an amazing Whale trip. Raul cooked for us both nights, such delicious food.
Overall we enjoyed the stay and would recommend to anyone
- 982tessad (10/5): Amazing owners and food - My husband and I have been traveling around Costa Rica for 10 days. Found this place by accident. The rooms are clean, the view is beautiful, and there is a trail to go to the beach. This area is much more layed back than other areas we have been to. The owners are from Cuba and they cook amazing. They are so friendly. They made us feel right at home! Their two dogs are sweet and like to play! They helped us find things to do while we were here. We stayed an extra night because we liked it so much. We highly recommend staying here! Great wildlife viewing!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This hotel is in a quiet area. There really aren't many amenities besides the pool, wifi, and the breakfast. Of course, Max the dog is super friendly and made a great guide to walk though the jungle to the beach. The owner Raul really made us feel welcomed and made breakfast for us personally. The walls are really thin here that we can hear the guy on the phone in the next room. Just a basic lock on the door, but we didn't feel unsafe at any moment.
- Henry (8/5): - Muy agradable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Mal olor en la habitation, ningun vista de las ventanas, cama no comoda, insectos, mucho ruido de camiones
- katie-bwd (4/5): Dirty and poor ‘view’ - Lovely owners, and a decent breakfast, as well as cute hammock outside the room where you could see the greenery. However, despite hearing of the lovely ‘garden views’, we unfortunately ended up with rooms on the top floor. This meant the only view we got from the windows was the underside of the overhanging roof and a slight glimpse of some forest if you craned your neck. Virtually no natural light in the room, which was not helpful when the power went down for a couple hours in the morning, at the time that we had to pack up our stuff. Bathrooms were also not in the nicest conditions, with hair in the sink, mysterious brown stains on various appliances and a broken shower handle. Overall, due to the unlucky room placement primarily, as well as the need for a cleaner area, was not a particularly pleasant stay. Perhaps alright for those who want a rustic feel, though.
- Mike (10/5): Hosts are the best - Hosts, both human and canine, were totally charming. Restaurant was A+. Cuban cuisine the finest. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Susan Mauk
- Stephanie (8/5): Lovely stay here - Wonderful hosts, lovely breakfast and good location. (Uvita is pretty remote)
The room was really nice and I had a great sleep, bathroom curtain was a bit dodgy/needed to be replaced. Over all a good value and reccomended place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice room with AC and neat trailto the beach.great staff and nice restaurant
- John R. (8/5): Great place. Raul and Sabilia were great host. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. - Rooms were clean. Great walk through the jungle tonthe beach. Very breakfast. Restaurant on site serving Cuban food -‘excellent! Close to town and many other attractions
- A4509RQdebbiem (6/5): Quaint and Friendly Hotel - We stopped at this quaint hotel on our way to Panama from Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The rooms were simple but clean and roomy. Air conditioning and a television was available, however don't expect a coffee maker or in-room refrigerator to keep your beverages frosty. The onsite restaurant, which featured dishes from Cuba, was quite lovely. Our dinner was tasty and our breakfast (which was included with our room) was a typical plate of fruit, gallo pinto, eggs cooked to order and toast. The staff there is very nice as well. I would stay there again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Noisy, near highway. Nice hike to beautiful beach.
- DebUSofA (10/5): Hotel Samsara - We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at Hotel Samsara. The owners, Raul and his wife, were welcoming and worked hard to ensure our visit was comfortable. The onsite outdoor restaurant has delicious food (breakfast included with stay) and provides a lovely space to meet other travelers from all over the globe. The path that connects the hotel to the beach furnishes an opportunity to explore. The hotel is next to the highway and you do hear the traffic, but it was not a problem for us. What we really remember is the sound of the howler monkeys as our morning wake up call. Good value for the cost.
- Maureen (8/5): Good stay - Comfortable and good restaurant too
- We (10/5): - The many trees and privacy. There is an excellent Cuban restaurant on the property, and a good chef and cook. No pressures , either use Pool or make a short walk to the beach, with senderos. Good bird watching.
It was a pleasant stay.
- Carly (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay here. The owner, Raul, was amazing. The restaurant on site was closed but he offered to make us food anyway. All the staff were nice and accommodating. He’s upgrading the rooms. Max the puppy was the sweetest thing. It’s anout a 10-15 walk through the jungle to an incredible beach. Great stay!
- lisabH5057GN (10/5): Paradise - This hotel has two amazing things going for. The first is the owners, a lovely Cuban couple. They are the most hospitable people I have meet in my travels around the world. The second is the beach access by foot through the jungle. The first time you walk through the clearing and see the beach you will be in awe. So ok, maybe the hotel isn't perfect, but I thought it was still paradise.
- Jennifer (10/5): A great value - we happened upon the Hotel Samsara when we were in the Uvita area- it was spacious, comfortable and the owner/staff were very quick to respond and help out with questions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great family (couple) operated hotel, with direct access to the beach located within a beautiful national park. It was one of the best experiences of our journey throughout Costa Rica, especially because the property owners made us feel so much like family instead of guests that we did not want to leave and are missing them so very much! Great Cuban Restuarant and cuisine, wonderfully styled rooms within jungle canopy that was amazing! Very clean, neat, comfortable, spacious rooms and an awesome feeling of Pura VIDA! We’ll be back soon & thank you for making our short stay so wonderfully pleasurable and relaxing!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice little hotel with brilliant owner Raul who couldn't do enough for us, if your looking for modern furniture and decor than it's not but it's clean and tidy and near centre of Uvita
- ticacrc (8/5): Nice room and great walk to the beach! - People were nice, breakfast was good, the room nice size, had A/C, TV, comfy beds and free Wifi. The best part is the walk in the forest to go to the beach that was amazing, just need something for the mosquitos. Just a detail in that the room needed a deep cleaning though there was dust (Around the TV and back of the bed) and a little mildew in shower drain. Would stay there again..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent experience i would recommend this hotel to anyone great people and great room for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - They should update the pictures. The property is beautiful and a 15 min walk will lead you to the beach
- 480j_rgs (10/5): Cosy place, unique host - A clean, calm and cosy little place with pool and direct access to the beach of the Parque National Marina Balleno and a restaurant with good cuban kitchen - and absolutely reasonable prizes!
The new owners (Raul and his enravishing wife) are cubans and the real asset of this place: they manage to create a unique familiar ambiente. With Raul I had the most enriching and enlightening conversations. This guy is good for any imaginable topic, he has an incredible and wide-ranging knowledge as well as extra-well reflected opinions.
Leaving this place to me was the only one causing some wrench during my whole two-month-trip in country.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Great bird watching, great pool, close to the beach, great Cuban food!
- Douglas (8/5): Good Choice - Incredible grounds with a jungle trail leading to the beach. Spacious, clean, rustic rooms with good air conditioning and hot water in the shower. Very nice, friendly and helpful staff.
- mariposaiglesias (10/5): Amazing Experience!!! - I have recently returned from spending 10 days in Costa Rica with 7 of those days at Hotel Samsara. I cannot say enough good things about my husband and my experience here. The accommodations are spacious, clean and centrally located to the town of Uvita and many attractions in the area. This hotel is off the main highway and for me this was a bonus. Getting to and from where we needed to go was very convenient and the grounds have a lush jungle on the property that leads directly to Playa Ballena. The property is serene, well kept and the flowers and grounds are always being worked on by staff and maintenance. This hotel has new owners since just a few months ago and the changes that were ongoing there were very present with things being updated, repainted, replaced etc. The owners were extremely helpful with providing information and resources on the area also which made things easier cor our days of exploring.
Breakfast was a typical Tico breakfast but their rice was amazing compared to other places we ate. The lunches and dinners were fresh and delicious and there was a variety of different choices. Lots of fresh fruits, juices etc. (the owner Raulito also makes great specialty drinks)
There was always someone around to answers questions or provide ongoing resources in the reception which was nice. It was nice to see the pride in ownership from the new management.
This property also has a pool which is nestled away from the rooms in a stunning setting surrounded by the jungle. On one occasion a group of 20 monkeys or so passed by while we were swimming. We also saw beautiful birds, butterflies and animals right on the grounds and at the end of the trail is a beautiful natural beach where we swam every morning.
I brought natural bug repellant and didn't have any issues with mosquitos on this property at all. I was a little nervous about this before going but was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are also secured and didn't have any issues with bugs while inside.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone and my husband and I are already planning a return trip to this area and we will for sure be staying again at this hotel. A big thanks to all the staff who made our vacation a truly memorable experience. 😊👍
- Annie (8/5): Great place, excellent staff, questionable WiFi - The hotel is a really quaint place, the rooms are big enough and feel comfortable; the pool is really quiet and the beach is at walking distance. The breakfast included with the stay is really good, bigger than most places and great flavour! The whole staff are reallu friendly and will help you with a big smile!
The only thing that could be severely improved is the WiFi, there weren’t many guests at the hotel and yet the wifi couldn’t even send or receive WhatsApp messages promptly.
- Fernando (10/5): it is a small hotel, with nice acess to the Beach - a small hotel, nice people in a beautiful place, the place is clean and has a small pool
- specialed2013 (10/5): Great place - I've stayed all over Uvita and there is one thing I always run into and that is mosquitos! Not Here I slept great and the people here are very nice And accommodating. The food is wonderful and there is even a bonus jungle treck behind the hotel to a creek and the ocean. New #1 favorite hotel for this location. Pura Vida!
- A4605SBvictorc (10/5): Osvaldo Miami - I was Skeptical in the beginning my first trip to Costa Rica but now I regret it
Beautiful places, good staff and owners.
The beach is incredible beautiful, and breathtaking.
Good food
No complaints.
Thanks I see you soon.
- miriamedwards042 (10/5): A truly fantastic place!!! - I was at first a little apprehensive about staying here after reading some of the negative reviews but this place is a little gem in Costa Rica!!!
For starter it is under new ownership/management. The chef is amazing and he prepared for us the most fresh delicious meals I have ever had! We are a family of 4 and each of us enjoy different activities. This homey hotel did not fall short in offering things to do, from long peaceful hikes in the nearby National forest where we enjoyed all kinds of unique wildlife, to whale watching and snorkeling, even a little bit of fishing for my die hard fisherman husband. The only regret was not been able to stay longer!! We are already planning to be here for Christmas 2018 and do much of the exploring we didn't get to do this time.
The rooms have been freshly painted and remodeled, where we unwind comfortably at the end of a hard day of fun.
This place and its friendly staff will not disappoint you! we loved it!
- Caroline (8/5): Nice little hotel
- Simple, tidy and nice hotel. Staff was great ! Helped me with my hike, obtain travel information and went above and beyond the basic service. Breakfast was wonderful, room was clean and the pool very nice. Well worth the modest price.
- elliott (10/5): clean and easy access... - conveniently located along the main road in Uvita, this is a rustic stay including breakfast. good for a one night stay if location close to Domenical. the office closes at 8 pm so it was a little disconcerting on arrival at 11pm. fortunately, the on-site attendant was helpful once he woke up to provide the room location and key! a message board located near the office with a note would have spared the uncertainty of knowing what to do after a long day of driving.
- Steve (8/5): A week in uvita - We stayed in two rooms at the Coope Agri for 7 nights. The rooms had TV's, AC, a shower and two queen beds. This is exactly what we needed for this trip. The pool was clean and refreshing!
The best part of the hotel is the staff. They are warm and friendly. Omar in the restaurant and Sonya in the reception area went above and beyond to help us gringos enjoy our stay!
- jilld688 (4/5): On the highway FYI - So we failed and didn't read reviews before booking this place (or meant to book another one and accidentally booked this one). It's right on the highway. Super loud. Even with that aside, there is an apartment above the rooms, and the floors/ceilings are made of creaky wood, so every time someone walked we could hear it, full volume. Woke me up all night, even with earplugs. We could also hear everything said in the room beside us.
The people are very nice and the rooms were clean, but very musty. The pool looked nice. The walk to the beach is through dense jungle... not an easy stroll.
The breakfast was yummy. Really nice people, but unfortunately bad location, and really loud rooms.
- erickj494 (2/5): Don't use this hotel - The hotel was built in a mountain cabin style, however it doesn't receive the adequate maintenance. In the second floor you cannot sleep hearing noises of what seems to be rats. In fact, the bed of the room where our friends tried to sleep, was completely covered by rat feces.
The AC didn't work, so my friends couldn't sleep.
The only positive aspect was that the administrator refund the money to my friends.
- Nicki (2/5): la perla de bahia disaster - Disappointed at the outcome, spent hours on sat trying to find out what was going on. Spent hours at the new hotel trying to tell the 2 youngsters that I had paid already. They couldn't speak English, I could speak Spanish and my husband too. We had to get a hold of an interpreter at hotels.com to explain everything. This hotel La perla was not very professional. The rooms were awful, no tables, chairs, dresser. The price for this place should've been for a good hotel. I feel robbed of my stay at this place.
- Adam (8/5): Great hotel at a road less traveled beach - This is a great beach location, if you are looking for an off the beaten path beach destination. The hotel is very quaint with a very friendly staff. The beach is a short walk through the jungle, and this is not a typical tourist beach, there was nobody for a quarter mile in either direction. The hotel is right on a fairly busy road so there was some traffic noise, but nothing major unless you are a very light sleeper. Being off the beaten path this location is best if you have your own transportation, as there is not a lot in the immediate vicinity. We would definitely come back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place - Courteous staff. Clean. Convenient. Very reasonable.
- Arnie (10/5): Wonderful hotel - The hotel was easy to find. Our room was not fancy but clean and more than adequate. The pool area and grounds are exceptional. The walk to the beach is a bit of a hike through the jungle but we found it an adventure. The breakfast was very nice. We would definitely stay here again.
- Marco (8/5): - Nice valentine´s weekend at the hotel. Very quiet, even though the location is next by the highway. You can have a very peaceful time surrounded by the nature
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice property/people, just needs some updating. - Unfortunately our stay wasn't great. Although the property is cute, and the staff was very nice, the property itself needs a little love. (which it looked like they were doing when we were there) Mainly the power and A/C units did not work. (which is a big problem in a very hot/stuffy climate)
- Jersey girl (2/5): mold in room, no internet - The receptionist was sweet and did switch our room, but she did not speak English so that made things a little difficult. No internet at all ( confirmed with other guests) Tico breakfast was OK but nothing special. We won't be going back there. Sorry.
- James (10/5): Excellent facility with a top notch staff!! - I wish all my travel experiences were so Great! The Staff was professional, caring, and prideful in the job they did, the hotels rooms were very comfortable, and very clean! The restaurant on property was very nice, great food and service, but again it was the staff that made the stay exceptional! The owner of this property should feel very fortunate to have such a top notch staff, which really made my stay extra special!!!
- jules (8/5): Overall good - The key to this hotel is the manager gustabo. He was professional, helpful and always around for any questions. There is an amazing path through the jungle to a private beach, so you don't have to pay to get on the beach. The little pool is a nice addition. There is a restaurant attached where i had really excellent dinners. The only negatives were very thin walls and it is out of town so you will need transportation to go to uvita.
- jf (8/5): Costa Rican hotel - The clientele were mainly Costa Rican at this hotel so being able to speak Spanish would be advantageous but the manager was bilingual. Situated on the edge of uvita by the main road, it was easy to find. The rooms are spacious and beds comfortable with restaurant and pool on site and a trail to the beach. Access to a car is useful though restaurants, town and Whales tail were within walking distance. Street lamps along road for most of walk to town centre and sidewalk marked but road is busy so take care. Walk along marked trail to sandy beach through mangrove and across 2 rivers (no crocodiles; knee deep max) and can then walk along beach to whales tail. Tasty food in restaurant with Costa Rican breakfast. Grounds good for birds and howler monkeys and manager has seen many other animals
- RICHARD (8/5): Nice place to stay in Uvita - We were lucky because were the only guests at the hotel, so not noise from next rooms as others mention on previews reviews..overall the hotel is nice but need some improvements at the bathrooms, needs to replace the shower curtain..also the shower head is not centered causing the water to fall to close to the shower curtain.
The trail to the beach is nice but also could be better.
Regarding food..only did breakfast and it was fine
- Sgraham (8/5): Great hotel - This hotel has everything that you need on a trip to Uvita: large rooms, individual bathrooms, complementary breakfast, simple hike to the beach, and nice staff.
- A (2/5): Not for tourists - Very noisy hotel you hear tv in all the neighbor rooms. Before 8 they sweep and bonk with their radio outside your room no nightguard. Only 2 chairs by the pool.
