- Jonathan (9/5): Made a Stranger Very Comfortable - My stay at Bano Palace was a full week and was filled with the professional staff and kind gestures of the hotel as a whole. The room assigned to me at arrival was clean and modern with all of the accoutrements you would hope for. Except a window. As my stay was going to be extended I requested a change of room so that I could have access to natural light and the air outside. The manager (Aristide) quickly found a new room for me, complete with a balcony and a seating area (couch and chair). Not yet modernized the room was still very comfortable.
Housekeeping (Rose) was extremely polite and took perfect care of the room every day.
The food in Bano Palace is delivered still hot when ordered through room service, with everything in order. The breakfast buffet is also delicious although for my own tastes I could do with an alternative choice to fish on so many days. Maybe offer two choices on those days? Daniel(food and beverage manager) was very helpful and was able to connect me with local vendors for some reasonable shopping.
I have hopes to return to Douala later in 2025 and will certainly book my stay at Bano Palace. Would have enjoyed greater variety at breakfast. A few repairs needed in older rooms.
- Mohammad (9/5): Excellent value upper mid-range hotel in Douala - Very helpful staff ready to help.
Good location within walking distance of many restaurants and supermarket.
Well known hotel and thus very familiar to taxi drivers which is useful when taking shared taxis to get back.
Good wifi
Good housekeeping
Free shuttle to airport a big plus
- Dennis (8/5): Very good experience - Their services Some staff at the front desk
- Mesombe (8/5): Very good - Everything about Bano was Good especially the staff and the cuisine. Just little lapses that was handled a little late.
- Tshegofatso (7/5): Not bad - Helpful staff No kettle in the room
- Alain (8/5): Very good -
- Elisée (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing old, bad air conditioning and expensive room
- Mohamed (6/5): Good - Ras Ras
- Stephen (9/5): The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. - The was safe and secure. I like the area because it was not far away from the town centre
- Ange (7/5): Good -
- Pedro (8/5): Very good - Great location and good amenities...Staff were very outgoing and courteous. Thought food and bar prices were a bit high.
- Ousmanou Oumarou (8/5): - I liked
- Philippe M (8/5): - I recommend it to anyone willing to stay in the main city for some days.
- Vix (8/5): Very good -
- James (8/5): Very good - The size of the suite was very spacious If the hotel furnishings were updated, as in the annex restaurant - pool area, this hotel could compete with any hotel in Douala.
- Tam (9/5): Superb - The staff are very friendly especially the manager The resturant is expensive and not the best meals
- Sally (7/5): Good option for Douala - Staff is very nice and friendly. Everyone tries to help and figure out ways to make your stay more comfortable.
I definitely recommend this as a good option in Douala. In general, it is a good hotel but it is a bit old. Some things could work better but this is really one of the best options for Douala. Breakfast is good, staff is friendly, there is a spa.
- Andrew (8/5): Really enjoyed staying and will be back soon. - Really friendly staff. Made me feel really welcome and always smiled.
Very helpful and good. Some of the carpet could be replaced.
- Nick (10/5): Nice hotel. Friendly English-speaking staff. Convenient shuttle service. - On my second visit to this hotel I was upgraded to a mini-suite which was wonderful. I would recommend this hotel to travelers who are passing through Douala because the hotel's shuttle service is excellent.
- Madeleine (8/5): - Tout était OK
- Fukuyan (6/5): Good for conference - We stayed this place because we organized a meeting. The water temperature and pressure of the shower were great, though it was a bit d’occultismes to adjust the right temperature. The internet was unstable. When good it was fast enough to watch a video streaming. But very often there was no access to internet. There is a parking in front and at the back of the hotel. The restaurant was good. But they did not some dishes on the menu available. Will I come back? I will compare this hotel with others before I decide next time.
- Bantar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerald (8/5): Great stay! - My stay was very good. The most impressive part of my stay was just how professional and helpful the staff was. They went out of their way to accommodate any of my requests.
- 9PeterS (6/5): All you need but keep an eye on what you get - I stayed for close to a week, attending meetings in the hotel. I got a huge room (actually, a suite - with small kitchen, two rooms, bathroom) with good aircon. It was clean and internet was reasonably fast and stable. Staff was very friendly. There was obviously enough space to work and meet, with sofas, chairs, a work table etc. The bathroom was standard, but unfortunately, water was seeping through the ceiling one day, creating a mess. The problem was fixed the same day. The bed was fine.
Breakfast was fine, with the standard selection from a buffet. The restaurant was OK for 2 days then it started to get boring as the menue never changed and not all options were tasty. Catering for the meeting was good initially but soon deteriorated - they obviously tried to make economies, and after 4 days meal quantities were nowhere enough, sodas ran out etc.
- luis jose (4/5): Fraude, demasiado caro.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is a strictly average hotel. It is old, smells bad and service is rather poor. Breakfast is very poor.
- phantnick (8/5): Very Good hotel - I have been in Bano Palace hotel many times, but only as a transit passenger from the airport, so I don't know a thing about other hotels or places in Douala. Having said that my review is compared to European hotels. Bano is a decent hotel. It is about 15 minutes drive from the airport and the shuttle bus service is very good. The staff is very helpful. The room is nice, has a discrete scent that I think comes from the outside. The bed is comfortable and the linen as well as the room are clean. The shower cabin is spacious and they offer the basic amenities for a 3* hotel. The breakfast is very basic. The restaurant used to have a very good chef (I assume) and all the plates I tried were delicious. However the last time I visited (Nov 18) they switched to buffet for the launch, which was again very basic, but well cooked (maybe this was temporary solution).
Overall you will have a decent stay, again compared to European standards for similar class hotels.
- 439larkinh (8/5): It is fine. Worth it if you get a good price. - Douala is a crap shoot of hotels. Variety of prices, some worth it, some not. Bano Palace is nice. Good people, very nice room, breakfast is above average. Didn’t try the restaurant dinner. The pool is nice to relax near and the staff is attentive to getting drinks and taking care of the pool. For Douala, it’s a five star experience.
However, the WiFi was not good. There are several different connections and it must slow when too many people get on the same router. Usually i was able to jump to another and it worked ok but overall it was very below average WiFi for a nice hotel.
- jean luc (8/5): - La chambre était réservée pour deux avec petit déjeuner compris et nous avons eu la mauvaise surprise de nous entendre dire qu'un seul petit déjeuner était compris!!! Bizarre isn't it???
Wifi impossible à connecter dans les chambres!
- annamS357IR (10/5): Port in a Storm - Stayed here for 24 hours after a last minute canceled flight out of congo. The staff was very nice. They kept breakfast longer for us, worked tirelessly from 3-6 in the morning to get us settled.
My room was small, but the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was clean and modern, though small It was also very quiet. The manager came to the airport herself to pick us up even though it was the middle of the night. They turned a terrible situation into a much nicer one.
Breakfast was good and the pool was gorgeous.
- Dr-Yves-Tchapda (6/5): Disappointing this year! - After writing glowing reviews about the Bano Palace Hotel in previous years, I was very disappointed with the new management. My partner and I have been staying at the Bano Palace Hotel every year for 10-11 nights for the past 4 years when visiting the family in Douala, and have until this year enjoyed a great atmosphere and a friendlier management, particularly the previous Moroccan Director who was very approachable and enjoyed a good relationship with his staff. I felt a different atmosphere this year.
However, the rooms are comfortable and the staff very hardworking, as usual, even though I wish they would smile a bit more. Security is excellent. I will give it another chance next year, and if there is no improvement from the management, I'll take my custom elsewhere. There are many other hotels in Douala!
DR Yves Tchapda
- ALEXANDER (8/5): - The standard rooms are small but adequate for a short stay
- BW57MAUR (6/5): Expensive, but Decent Hotel - I stayed here for almost 24 hours after a delayed flight. I also stayed at this hotel some years ago. Very little that could be negative to say about the hotel except that everything works, it is clean, the service in the restaurant is good, the reception staff were friendly and helpful despite having 100 unexpected guests arrive at 3:00 am.
The only real constraint is that even by Douala standards it is a bit more expensive, than the Ibis for example, whereas the rooms are larger, the food and quality of service is higher at the Ibis.
Nonetheless, if you have the extra €50 per night in your budget, it's worth spending for a hassle free stay.
- Dr-Yves-Tchapda (10/5): Fantastic Hotel - I've just returned from Douala where I spent the Easter holiday (11 days) with my partner Yvonne visiting the family. We stayed again at the Bano Palace hotel for the 3rd consecutive year. We love this hotel and always return there every year. It's very clean, and safe. The staff are very professional and friendly. It's located within reach of the main centre in Akwa. It's definitely good value for money and we would strongly recommend it to any visitor looking for somewhere decent to stay in Douala.
Dr Yves Tchapda and Yvonne Taylor
- DrIyke (8/5): Not a bad place at all! - This hotel is located in what seemed like the center of the town. I had thought that it would be noisy and a very terrible stay on day of arrival. It turned out not to be! The room i stayed in was small and cosy but most importantly very neat. The Bathroom was so clean with a very very functional water system. It helped a lot that the hotel staff were mostly bi-lingual. They may not be the all-the-time-smiling kind of people but they gave needed information when required. Swimming pool was under re-construction at the time and the gym is small but usable.
- ijeije40 (6/5): BUSINESS - very good and the temperatures are the very condusive. The the zone is a high traffic model area and its gives businesspersonnel to the opportunity to carry out higher level of business corporation with the environment.its has well trained hotel managers and the security is well put in pllace .
Inaddition, the douala business hermisphere permit the circulation on f cash both at the airport and seaport of the entity.Like being in Douala Cameroon due to its very condusive temperatures andthe city zone is well organised n such a way all chances are given to both the poor and the rich hence transparent hermosphere .
To conclude the city especially my hotel was one of the best due to what the cookan theor hospitality of keeping good client relationshipand hence i wish to come and operate business in Douala especiallyn the sea port.
- KalyanSamrajyam (8/5): Best hotel in the city - One of the best hotel in the city..rooms are good, food is fine, room service is ok, there is pool which is neat and clean and more over its very near to the Area shopping centre and railway station. Stayed for 40 days. Good experience.
- AmitS5074 (8/5): A nice afternoon spent on poolside - Very nice small swimming pool with a bar & restaurant. Had great time when it was raining yesterday. Staff is very humble and supporting. Breakfast is good specially beans & omelette. About Hotel, it has regular service for Airport pick up & drop in a nice comfortable mini bus. Place is located in Akwa area from where bus, Camrail and airport can be reached quickly without facing much traffic.
- Steve (10/5): The hotel met and exceeded our needs. Good choice. - We visited Cameroon for 2 weeks. We stayed at this hotel the last 2 days of the trip and were very pleased. Many other hotels we used were really poor. The Hôtel Bano Palace was a pleasure and the shuttle to the airport was great.
The pool was clean and nice, a cocktail by the pool made for a nice evening. Thumbs up by our family.
- Dr-Yves-Tchapda (10/5): "Great Hotel" - My partner and I have just returned back to Manchester, England from a 2-week holiday in Douala, visiting family. This is the 2nd year in a row we've stayed at the Bano Place hotel for the duration of our stay. It never disappoints us. The service is fantastic, the rooms are well looked after, the staff are polite, and above all , it feels safe. It was so quiet and peaceful. On the last night, we shared a couple of drinks in the bar with the General Manager (French Morrocan) who is very friendly. We definitely recommend this hotel. It's value for money, in a central location. We will certainly always stay at the Bano Palace when visiting family in Douala, if it keeps the same level of quality as it does now. Thanks to the whole Bano Palace Staff for a great stay. We were in room 605 from March 23rd to April 3rd.
- travelbug136 (2/5): Dumpy hotel - Shuttle never showed up; room was depressing. It is located very far from the airport in a crummy part of town. I heartily recommend your not staying here. You can find much better for the same price in Douala.
- SM1980 (6/5): Safe and clean place in Douala - This is a standard middle of the road offering in Douala. Actually, may even be four star by Douala standards. Clean rooms, safe refuge, and very friendly service. Totally worth paying 30 USD premium over the more flea offerings that are around 30 USD.
- 984jasonc (4/5): Poor value - We stayed here one night based on reviews, but our experience was that it was quite overpriced. Small rooms with outdated amenities, swimming pool out of service, and the staff made us pay separate for breakfast after they told us it was included. There are similar quality hotels by the airport for half the price.
- fandango57 (6/5): OK for a night in transit - As other reviewers have noted, the Palace Bano is convenient for an overnight stay in a city that seems to offer few options. The shuttle from the airport was much appreciated, especially after a long flight from Kigali.
The hotel itself is decorated in 70's glitz, with reflective ceilings and period furniture. The front desk staff was a bit gruff, but the porters were quite friendly and helpful, especially in coordinating the purchase of a local sim card for one of our party. Likewise the drivers of the shuttle - quite helpful.
The room is basic, yet clean. There did seem to be a quite a lot of entrepreneurial activity by some members of the local female population in both the lobby and bar areas, much to the enjoyment of the steady parade of businessmen. As always, watch your wallet in Douala.
- Alain (10/5): Très bon hôtel - Hôtel très bien situé avec un personnel très bien intentionné.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - restaurant had great options in menu. we found traveling around Cameroon all restaurants basically served the same items but hotel restaurant was a little more "international". bar was good as well, friendly staff, a little smoky. great services offered (money exchange, calling cards, bank machine etc) clean, quiet, accommodating staff. hotel pick up available. since my friend arrived before i did they even offered for her to come along to pick me up when my plane landed. surrounding areas are a little run down but close to main areas in Douala.
- Alain (2/5): Disappointment - My disappointment started from the airport. The shuttle was not there though I wrote to the hotel to request one. I took a taxi that I paid close to 200 dollars! double the price of the hotel. The taxi driver told me that fuel price has gone up and that the hotel was far. I remember reading that the hotel was 10 min from the hotel. The driver said that was not true. Any way I paid. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told that the driver was at the airport waiting for me at the parking lot. How on earth would I know that that where he was supposed to wait for me!
Any way I requested a wake up at 3.00 since I had my flight the following day at 5.00. no one woke me up, thanks go I did myself at around 3.10.
the confirmation mail I received was saying that my note was paid with my credit card and that I did not need to pay again. At the hotel I was told that they never received any thing. I paid again. I still need to check whether my credit card was debited. After all, this was one of my bad experience since I have touring the world on official business.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Nice hotel but location bad and staff need improve - Nice new hotel with good rooms but location is bad and staff at reception not interested in guests or their problems, free wifi is zero wifi since it doesn't work, restaurant took 1 1/2 hours to serve WRONG meal. DO NOT RECOMMEND
- Lagos (4/5): Terrible bed,Terrible mattress !!!!! can not sleep - Terrible bed,Terrible mattress !!!!! can not sleep at all !!!
- Yves (8/5): nice hotel in town - nice experience hotel is clean i have loved my stay in the hotel
