- roger (7/5): Ok - The setting The weather

- Sandra (10/5): A lot of effort has gone in to making The Waterman’s Arms a real treat. Will certainly be back. - The pub is in a beautiful and tranquil location. The staff are very welcoming and helpful from first contact at reception, and in the bar and the restaurant. The food was delicious, with the best breakfast I have had in a hotel for a long time. The room was well appointed and very comfortable. Everywhere was spotless. Nothing to dislike.
- Rachael (10/5): - Beautiful location
- Stephen (10/5): wonderful country pub with terrific food and nice rooms - Great location, easy parking, fantastic restaurant, delightful host, great value Nothing really, except a mini fridge in the room would be nice
- Juta (9/5): - The location and atmosphere were great! I absolutely love the history of the pub! Food was amazing too.
- Tara (8/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): Idylic location but could do with a refurb -
- john (10/5): - lovely stay in a proper pub.staff helpful and friendly.no wifi but people talked to each other.good food and beer.fabulous surroundings Great
- Beverly (9/5): Lovely pub in beautiful spot - Lovely location, staff very friendly and helpful. Food in the bar very good, we ate there every night. Good breakfast with delicious fruit salad. Nothing, all good.

- Guest (8/5): A delightful experience. - I have n't any reservations in recommending The Waterman's as an ideal venue for a few days away. Both the breakfast and the dinners were to be looked forward to and the room was a delight to be in I can't think of any worthwhile criticisms. It is family run at the moment but they will be moving on next month. Hopefully the new tenants will live up to their standards.
- Phil (7/5): It’s a lovely spot. It just needs a little more care and attention with the bedrooms. - I’ve stayed here before and the food wasn’t bad at all, but I didn’t get it right this time when I arrived there was a lot of the menu that they had run out of and the room was pretty poor considering that I had last time was more comfortable I know it’s rustic and unfortunately the lack of things on the menu spoiled it for me but that’s a shame. I would stay again but I wouldn’t hurry back.
- Sarah (9/5): Perfect peaceful stay - Dinner was splendid and breakfast yummy. Staff were very friendly All good for us!
- Susan (7/5): Fabulous location, friendly staff, great food. Decor a bit tired but great value for money. - Stunning, quiet location on the river and friendly, helpful staff. Good food with generous helpings. Very comfy bed and everything you could need provided. Good value for money. The decor is looking a bit tired - needs new carpets throughout and the bathrooms could do with a pep-up by resealing etc.
- Georgia (6/5): Needs a refurbish in the en-suite - Staff very welcoming and friendly, on going into our family room deluxe I found a nightie hanging on the back of the bathroom door, Who ever supposedly cleaned that room obviously need’s a refresher course, the bathroom itself could do with a very good clean even a refurbishment, Breakfast was lovely good choice of food and again very attentive staff,
Nix
- gazzer (9/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Amazing location - We have stayed in better superior rooms. There was also an undercover area directly outside our room and if that had been busy, the noise would have been unacceptable. Breakfast and location was amazing.
- Philippa (7/5): - Bar, beer and food very good. Lovely location Minor niggles only. Heavy awkward door on bedroom
Breakfast only started at 830
Personeel is heel vriendelijk.

- IAN (9/5): - Very helpful and friendly staff.
Excellent food.
Idyllic location.
- Jane (9/5): Peaceful, comfortable stay. Excellent breakfasts served swiftly by friendly, cheerful staff. - Spacious room, pretty location, warm, caring staff efficient staff. Noise from extractor fan from kitchen.
- Emma-Jayne (9/5): - The food amazing, the location fantastic
- Kirsty (10/5): Amazing stay x - The friendliness of the staff were so welcoming and accommodating. I made a cheese cake for a birthday snd I could put it on their fridge. My husband who vapes was allowed to in the room and in pub. And made our stay easier with 2 small children. The food was amazing x
- Arthur (10/5): A well-hidden little reverside gem - A somewhat quirky place with super helpful staff, great rooms (fabulous en suite) and an interesting menu. The food was absolutely first class - well presented and very tasty. It was just a one night stay for me after a few days' camping but I'll certainly look to return for a longer visit next time I'm in the area. Brekkie was pretty good as well.
- Hev (8/5): -
- suzanne (6/5): - Nice stay in a beautiful location but frlt accomodation needed a bit of TLC.
Staff very nice but no one around when we arrived to check us in and we waited in the empty bar for 15 mins. Likewise coming down for breakfast and check out there was no one around.
Rooms were clean but were very dated and areas felt like they needed a good clean. Our room was ok but smelt like someone had been smoking in it.
Wifi was dreadful. It disconnected around 8pm so we couldnt use phone or watch TV. Didnt come back on. Wifi only worked in bar area.
Food was really lovely though. Tea and coffee in room was nice. There were bathrobes but i wouldnt want to wear them.
- Gillian (2/5): - Beautiful setting by the river, but everything else was terrible!
Filthy dirty and untidy reception desk (photo available) ,sticky floors and surfaces throughout upstairs and down, Musty smelling bedroom with view from window of stacked rubbish, scaffolding structure? and generally a neglected outlook which was the theme throughout the premises inside and out - neglect and unclean.
An alternative room was offered with views of the river, but again was musty smelling and we were told that if we chose that room it was above the front door of the bar below so potentially would be banging shut throughout the evening. Not ideal.
I couldn’t access the internet or get a phone signal which apparently was available although I tried and it didn’t work at all, as was discussed with the person at the bar who was not at all helpful.
The ‘Reception’ person booking us in, was very abrupt in fact stating she was too busy and was serving in the bar as they couldn’t afford a receptionist…
We weren’t prepared to stay somewhere so dirty so walked away and had to locate another place to stay subsequently No refund, part or otherwise has been given and no apology was offered.
It is nothing like what is advertised , we have stayed in many places but never experienced anywhere as awful as this place! I find it hard to believe all the positive feedback left….based on our experience.

- Dawn (10/5): -
- Clare (5/5): Expected it to be much higher quality for the price - The location Run down
- Margaret (10/5): - Food was excellent and lots of choice.
Staff were friendly and nothing too much trouble
An excellent stay
- David (8/5): - Only one night stay as working in the area
Great position by the river
Foodies would love the menu also pizza bar available which was very popular on the Tuesday night I stayed.
Dogs loved playing in the river

- Marcel Georg (9/5): We were there and will come back - This was probably our 4th or 5th stay at Waterman's Arm, which is very picturesquely situated on a small stream. The rooms are good, as is the bathroom. A freshen-up would certainly not be excessive. For me, the outdoor beer garden is the best place. It's perfect for enjoying a beer in peace and unwinding. The restaurant has a good menu, and we enjoyed the food, too. Driving through the single lanes can be a bit stressful - especially because you drive on the opposite side to your usual side ;-)
- Heather (8/5): -
- Hinchliff (9/5): - Comfortable rooms. Good beer. Had the best risotto of my life here.
Good breakfast. Located by river and relaxing vibe.
- Louise (10/5): Perfect break - Friendly family atmosphere The fact the family are moving on it’s very sad We’ve been a few times I hope nothing change and the family feeling doesn’t goes away
- Stacey (6/5): Beautiful location, but room has a very strong musty odor. - Beautiful location on a creek. Room very musty and damp.
- Guest (10/5): - Everything was great. Food and staff were amazing. Kids loved too.
- joseph (4/5): - Flaky paint generally tired ,an old English country pub very pretty from the outside in a scenic spot .Inside remnants of old drinking establishment smell of old beer and cigarette smoke with a general stickiness to most surfaces .staff were pleasant ,pizza was ok but stake was mostly fat .
The bed had a spring poking out or it and the sofa bed had a small piece of foam for a mattress
- linda (8/5): Lovely stay, will stay again when I have more time - Very kind friendly staff in a very busy place by the river. Shown to my beautiful room and explained everything I needed - plenty of teas coffee milk etc and biscuits. Bed was so comfortable and furnished beautifully. Lovely ensuite with bath robes too.
Thank you I will visit again when I have more time to enjoy the breakfast and the area. It wasn't that I didn't like but - there was a notice on the wall by the bedroom door to say breakfast time from 8.30 and if required an earlier breakfast please tell reception, which I did as wanted to go early and although they were kind they said it wasn't possible as staff would need to be in earlier. Which I understand but don't have that written if its not possible.
- Guest (9/5): Bucolic tranquility - Devon countryside at its absolute best. - We stayed for two nights . The location, and the outside dining area is absolutely stunning. The pub itself is quirky and charming - as you'd expect from a property of that age. Our meal on the second night - local crab linguini - was delicious. Breakfasts were very good too. An idyllic, and truly tranquil spot. All in all, highly recommended. I had arranged for a room directly overlooking the river and had received confirmation by email some weeks ahead. When we arrived we had been unceremoniously 'bumped' to a room overlooking the fire escape with a distant view of the river. The reason given was that someone else had booked for a week, and our booking had 'been moved'. The member of staff we dealt with wasn't very helpful or friendly. A pity because the stay was otherwise lovely.
- John (7/5): Comfortable and friendly inn. - Dinner on terrace and breakfast. Efficient and friendly staff.Good selection of tea/coffee/biscuits in room. Inability to select TV channel. Steep staircase.
- Fiona (10/5): Great stay - Lovely welcome and everything was explained well Liked everything

- Russell (10/5): - A fantastic hotel / pub / restaurant about 4 miles from Totnes in the middle of the woods, so peaceful,
Fabulous restaurant with a great choice of fish, Staff were brilliant, food outside next to the river.
Just a lovely place, wish we could have stopped longer.
- Alistair (7/5): Nice. Like it. - Location The nouse of the cellar
- Lyn (6/5): Another work stay - Located opposite a river. In dire need of a refurb.
- Kayleigh (10/5): Wonderful Location, Service, and Food - Beautiful location on the river. The pub was charming and the rooms were lovely. Our room was clean and had everything we needed.
We had dinner on the river and the food was excellent. The staff were friendly and the service was great - we couldn't ask for better.
The breakfast was just as delicious with a choice of cooked breakfast, cereals, toast etc. Our only issue was the noise of a generator when we had our bedroom window open. It was too warm to sleep with the window shut, and unfortunately, the kitchen was below our window, so the generator made a loud buzzing sound.
Maybe a fan in the bedroom could resolve the issue?

- Magdalena (10/5): Welcoming vibes and accommodating staff. - It is located in a beautiful neighborhood with beautiful rolling hills around. They have a wonderful outdoor seating right by the creek and a welcoming bar.
- Yolanda (8/5): - Location, friendly staff, lovely breakfast (just the right portion size.) Room was alittle disappointing but comfortable and clean.
- Steve (10/5): -
- kerrie (8/5): - Friendly staff, clean and comfy room, good breakfast. Drive to get there not the best narrow lane for a mile or more
- sue (8/5): Great overnight stay in beautiful location - Beautiful location, good bar and meals
- ron (10/5): Just a brilliant place with lovely staff. - Best breakfasts on the planet. Nothing.
- clive (5/5): Pretty good - Good Dogs inside hotel rooms and lounge
- Roger (8/5): Happy stay at The Watermans Arms - The staff were exceptionnally helpful and polite. We ate breakfast every day and dinner on 3 evenings and the food was fresh, well prepared and very tasty. The location was the final bonus: secluded and next to a running stream. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Watermans Arms. Thankyou to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.👍👍 There was nothing to dislike that spoiled our visit. Some of the outside areas need a little tidying up but they still contributed to our pleasure.
- Guest (9/5): - Very friendly staff Nothing
- Razvan (9/5): -
- Sandra (7/5): - Het eten, heerlijke pizza’s.
- Natasha (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - The accommodation was excellent 👌 and the staff were very friendly and very polite the food was excellent and cooked fresh the surrounding area was very picturesque and serene well recommended stay
- Julie (9/5): Rooms ok but be prepared your card might be checked and you may not get released for days - Very comfortable and clean love the rustic atmosphere, just what we were expecting and looking for. Didn’t like the fact that they did a card authentication the day before we arrived after we asked if our rooms were located on the ground floor. When we arrived paid up front (not a problem) but then it took 5 days for our authentication payment to be released. Not happy.
- Julie (10/5): - Everything, 2nd stay and couldn't. Be faulted. Great value for money, great food and lovely location Very windy roads!!
- Stephen (8/5): Worth the journey to get there. Wonderful setting great food comfortable rooms. - Stunning location, great cooked breakfast Surrounding roads a bit narrow
- John (8/5): Overall an enjoyable one night stay, but just a little let down by the room. Would stay again. - Location is beautifully peaceful and the added river setting is really lovely. The evening meal was piping hot and tasty. Compared with the evening meal, the breakfast was served on a cold plate, which meant that it wasn't as hot as it could have been and also a little rushed. You didn't really get time to have cereal or fruit etc before the cooked breakfast was brought to table. Also a bit disappointed that although described as a garden view, our room looked out onto a flat roof and car park and was located up a very steep staircase, This was not great for my wife who has leg issues.
- monica (7/5): - Friendly staff, good breakfast. Noisy road at 7 and 8am. Not so close to walk easily to Tornes as I thought l.
- Nick (9/5): Delightful location, excellent staff and great food - all in all, an excellent stay - Location was perfect as a base for the visits that we had planned, a peaceful and lovely setting, great food and excellent staff.
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Carol (8/5): Really lovely place, great staff, good food, comfy bed. Location was amazing. - Food was good, the location amazing ! We had a unit under out window so that we could hear a humming sound which meant our sleep was disturbed.
- Sarah (10/5): Homely relaxed great food and magical setting ! - It’s a magical setting next to the river mist relaxed atmosphere and the welcome is second to none. Old character
- Edward (9/5): Lively stay made extra special due to the lovely, kind and helpful staff. - The room and pub were excellent, all the staff were brilliant and we would recommend to anyone to stay here. Only the location, due to the single track roads. But wouldn’t stop us visiting again.
- Hale (7/5): welcoming and comfortable, good price - v comfortable room, bathroom a little dated. The property could do with an upgrade, brilliant location public rooms very tired.
- David (6/5): Disappointing. - The staff were friendly. Didn’t like the location. The property needs a lot of attention. The carpets all need cleaning and there were cobwebs in the room and I think it could do with a bit more privacy in the bedroom as the outside area is quite near. Also the outside could do with a lot of cleaning up.
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- Alan (7/5): Nice place, good staff and a good experience overall -
- Mikael (10/5): -
- Caroline (9/5): Wonderful stay, will be coming back - Wonderful location, friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable bed. Good facilities. Delicious pizza. Personally for me there was a lack of healthy breakfast options, but my family members were happy with their breakfast choices. The staff did accomodate me though and I got what I prefer, so it's worth asking for a slight adaptation to the menu.
- Sabine (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): - peaceful location. good beer and food
- David (10/5): -
- Barry (9/5): Solo short break in Devon - Lovely country pub in a riverside location. Staff very friendly and room had all the usual amenities and was clean and well presented. Access is via a very narrow lane, so may be a problem for a nervous driver. Only negative to the property itself is a lack of air conditioning if you’re lucky enough with the weather to need it(I was).
- Rhoda (10/5): Loved the friendly staff and location was just right for my course. Lovely relaxing by the river with a drink . - Beautiful location on the river and lovely food Nothing
- Peter (8/5): Lovely riverside location for a break all year round. - You can't beat the Watermans Arms. Beautiful riverside location, nice beer and food, and a warm welcome. Evening drinks by the river in the warm weather is a must do. Fantastic breakfast as well. One of our favourite haunts. The floorboards in our bedroom were incredibly squeaky. The stairs in the main house are a bit steep, and the approach road from Totnes is very narrow in places. But these are only minor things.
- Michael (9/5): Peaceful and relaxed stay with a great breakfast. - Picturesque peaceful location alongside a small river and property had character. Our room nos 8 at the front looked onto the river. Very narrow lanes to reach the property.
- Robert (8/5): Excellent location. Would stay again, - Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was a bit dry. Room was a little 'tired'. Beer was good. Toilet seat would not stay up. Breakfast could have been better.
- Gwyneth (9/5): - Great location and great food Nothing
