Guest Reviews
- henry (6/5): - I’ve visited this hotel about five times with my family, and it has always been one of our favorites. It was my top choice because it offered peace, relaxation, and wonderful memories. But this time, I noticed some changes that made the experience less enjoyable.
1.The room didn’t meet the usual standards. The shower had very weak water pressure, and the safety box wasn’t working. I asked the lobby to open it, but no one followed up. The sink wasn't draining properly, but that was fixed the same day.
2.The jacuzzi wasn’t warm in the mornings like before, and I had to ask for adjustment every day. The chlorine smell was noticeably stronger, and the jacuzzi didn’t seem clean early in the morning.
3. Restaurant:
The food was great, but service was very slow. One morning I waited over 30 minutes by the pool for someone to take my order and had to go to the restaurant to ask. I also had to follow up several times for basic requests. One night, I wanted to order a glass of wine, but they said they only had one glass left. When I asked if I could order a bottle instead, they said yes, which felt odd. I also saw another guest upset after being told there was no more wine, only to watch a staff member carry two glasses out for room service.
The hotel still has charm and privacy, so I’ll likely return. But if service doesn’t improve, I may reconsider. It seems staff was reduced, which affected quality. I hope they address this and return to the high standards I’ve enjoyed in the past
- Ana (10/5): - Beautiful pool and spa with thermal water! Only hotel guests are allowed to have use of the installations. The massage was amazing! I would love to go back
- John (10/5): - I would not have been able to afford staying at a place like this in the US or Europe. Just amazing amenities and attention to detail all around
- Edwin A Nolasco (6/5): - We liked that it was clean and very friendly staff. We didn’t like the noise, not noise resistance room and the worst no AC!! It was hot and humid inside!
- Claudia (8/5): - The service staff from the restaurant, as well as the st Teresita staff was amazing except for the reception at the hotel and the scheduling staff, Vanessa did a horrible job to make my service schedule and made everyone in the property to remake the schedule and had to stay on a longer hours to accommodate me and my mother so we could have the services as should. Also please make sure to have it offer a different menus of prices for Third party vendors such as booking with Expedia so there are no misunderstanding or False advertising and overcharges at the counter as it happen to me so the client can have a better way to organize and have the correct budget without surprises! Thank you
- Dinora (10/5): - Very satisfactory and looking forward to coming back.. excellent treatment.
- Edwin E (10/5): - Keep up the good work.
- Juana (10/5): - Everything was great!
- Edgar (8/5): - Good people, good service
- DU HWAN (2/5): - Fue una experiencia malísima, habitación lleno de zancudos. cama también todo húmedo.
Nos decimimos salir 8pm
- Rosemarie (10/5): - Spa and nature all in one
- Alicia (8/5): - El hotel es lindo y pequeño, ideal para ir en pareja.
Se encuentra en medio de Amatitlán, el día que nos quedamos había fiesta en la calle de enfrente y se escuchó la música hasta el amanecer.
- Johnell (8/5): Kawilal - The hotel was nice only downside they didnt have much for us to eat, we are plant based. Besides that everyone was nice and the service was good. I liked the hot springs pool and my chiro massage was nice at the spa.
- Amber (2/5): Never again - My friend chose this hotel specifically for the thermal spa at Santa Teresita. It directs you to kawilal but everything is additional and added on. My friend didn’t read the previous reviews either or else we would’ve avoided this at all costs. Restaurant options weren’t great. The hotel is in the middle of a toxic industrial area that looks like a slum. There is NO air conditioning in the room and the room is super humid. The road noise is deafening and noise from the town is deafening. The website says services in English and Spanish - they’re only in Spanish. This was frustrating because I don’t get paid to be a translator and I don’t want to have to act as a go between. There’s no information about services or where. The maps are confusing. One positive thing is the room was clean but whatever they use to clean the floor causes a film that I almost slid and fell on three times. Even more dangerous when getting out of the shower. The restaurant staff was nice. ZERO communication that while breakfast is included YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR DRINKS WITH YOUR BREAKFAST. Why not be upfront about this? Positive note, I asked for express laundry service and it came back quick for a good price. I’ll never stay here again. We opted to lose the night stay and drive back to antigua in traffic to spend the evening there where it was much quieter and comfortable…
- Jose (8/5): - Super comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Great food.
- Nancy (10/5): -
The hotel is located in a beautiful area, ringed by mountains. The landscaping they did was beautfiul. Our room was large and lovely with a private balcony to enjoy the views. The restaurant provided lots of space between guests so felt COVID-safe. Had wonderfu massages. Would highly recommend.
- Roslinda (10/5): - Hotel room and all the property very clean, very professional and friendly staff, their food menu is good for a person that stays for one or two days the food is delicious but there is no much variety in the menu if you stay for more than 2 days in the hotel. I will recommend this place i will come back soon, the Sauna and massage are excellent.
- Mariah E (10/5): Stay here if you can!! - Absolutely incredible!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Environmental Spa Hotel - The hotel is well designed and the amenities like the spa services with thermal baths, massages, etc. were very nice.
- Alex (10/5): - la arquitectura y la abundante vegetación, así como el buen servicio
- Emanuel (10/5): Great! - Great service, although the facilities were semi-closed because of the National coronavirus curfew they went about and beyond to take care of me. The facilities are gorgeous and hope to come back once all the facilities are open.
- Arody (10/5): - Its a wonderful place to rest friendly stuff i love to stay at this hotel
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I waited 3 hours and 20 minutes to get a massage, but no one showed up. The reception only said to wait
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great people! Food is good, spa is great rooms are nice!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - You double charged the cost of my stay, Need to get in touch with you ASAP
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great breakfast but evening meal selection not so good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved the unique hotel and grounds. However, it overlooks a poor city... you can’t really tell from the pictures. Also the restaurant closes at 8:30pm.. we arrived at 8:40 and there was nothing to eat... kinda bummed. Glad I brought snacks and we raided the small offering mini bar. The food was great at the restaurant and we enjoyed the spa next door,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room is clean, good food at the restaurant, very private hot pool.
Can enjoy with family every time I visit here.
But pretty noisy at night from the party outside of facility. Come here to relax, but it is hard to relax at night due to loud music.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very comfortable, clean and friendly service.
Excellent food too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing property with unique rooms. The restaurant and pool area is also spectacular.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excelente service, food is great , pools are excelente
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I request a romatic dinner and everything was just perfect the stuff was great
- Obed (8/5): Beautiful hotel, but no AC - Everything was beautiful. The only bad thing is that there are no AC units. Only a fan. So you uave ti open the patio door, but when you do open the patio door, the fly’s come in. Breakfast was awesome and the pools beautiful.
- Madeleine (10/5): delightful - elegant and relaxing
- MIA (8/5): - Nice hotel to stay, had 2 spa/massage inside of hotel - new installation. but i found masseuse is not good as before experience, she had very loud voice and very rough hands. When she delivered towels to massage room, she just throw it on the table, it seems she doesn't care her client. I had almost 15-16 times massage experience here in Kawilal ( Santa Teresita) , this time was worst. even though I tipped.
- luca (10/5): Amazing quiet green hotel - Amazing hotel with hot spot water swimming pool, amazing views, super nice hotel
- The Hernandez (10/5): Excellent eco green hotel - We spend just one night at this hotel and we did not expect to have such a great experience. The hot springs pools were amazing. The hotel pool is not big but it’s big enough for the hotel guests. We will return in the future and recommend it to our family and friends. Keep up the good work!
- carlos (8/5): Nice place to stay and relax - Close to town but far from town. A wonderful place to stay and relax. People are really friendly and make your comfort their priority. Food is good and pools are nice and warm. The Jacuzzi was a bit dirty but it was some people before us that left paper and other stuff in there. We used the pool instead that was amazing. The only suggestion will be to trim the trees to create a better view if town at night from the pool
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel is impressive. Amazing in every way. The only drawback is that the tranquil setting is disturbed by the loud traffic of the nearby road.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very unique hotel - We stayed for one night at the beginning of our trip to Guatamala. We liked it so much we booked 2 nights at the end of our trip. The rooms are the most unique we have ever stayed in. We loved the natural hot springs pool and we had access to the pools at Santa Teresita spa. It was a great way to begin and end our trip.
- Michele (10/5): - The level of service provided was incredible. Everyone at this resort including the groundskeepers were so friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend and return to this hotel.
- Rachael (2/5): Horrible hotel - This was the worst stay in Guatemala during our entire trip. We got food poisoning from the restaurant and asked the hotel for medication which they didn't carry. The outside area was to dangerous to walk anywhere and the dogs and roosters were very loud all night long. I ran a high fever and threw up all night long, fighting my partner for the bathroom as he was extremely sick as well. Spending over 100$ in Guatemala everywhere else left us feeling fine expect for this hotel. Absolutely horrible quality. We will never return here and I advise anyone else to stay elsewhere!
- Walter (10/5): Very calm and relaxing! - Hotel overall is amazing, very nice
- Grayson (10/5): Amazing spa - Great experience with exceptional onsite spa services.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Fantastic place to retreat and relax! - Beautiful venue! Highly recommend staying at the hotel, as it includes use of the adjacent spa's thermal pools and the Jacuzzi. Stay during the week and you will likely have the hotel's own thermal pool and Jacuzzi to yourself. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and accommodating. The restaurant at the hotel, Las Mengalas is amazing--food is creative, creatively presented, and delicious! It was better than the restaurant at the spa, which while not bad, was somewhat bland. I also recommend the Sauna-Thermal Package at the spa--good value for a 50-minute massage and 75 minutes in the sauna with eucalyptus. I did not see the need for the Thermal Circuit, as you can create your own through all the other pools. Only negatives of the hotel are that, despite being high above the city of Amatitlán, you do hear traffic noise in the morning, so bring earplugs. Also, lighting in the room is ambient, so it is a bit dark in the evening. That said, this is a fantastic place to retreat, work and relax.
- Barbara (8/5): Modern earth home rooms with amazing thermal pools - The room is a modern earth home with open outside space, great airflow through the room . The breakfast we ordered was beautiful with fresh squeezed orange juice. The Santa Terisita thermal pools were so relaxing and beautiful, and we had the whole hotel pool which has thermal waters all to ourselves. Would go again if we lived in Guatemala.
- Gary (10/5): Beautiful Eco Hotel - The thermal baths are amazing both at the hotel and at Santa Teresita spa below with access included. We did have an unexpected charge to experience the thermal circuit treatment, but we'll worth the extra 130 Q. I must also mention the beautiful view and amazing food in the on-site dining.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Relaxing - Hotel is far from Antigua and Guatemala City but they can arrange transfers. Was perfect for us as we had an exhausting Central America trip that ended here so we needed the relaxing time but there isn't much to do at night and it isn't a safe area to wander outside. Massages were just ok.
- Richard Y. (8/5): Family Trip to Guate - The Hotel and staff are amazing. Everyone is polite and accommodating. The rooms were clean but we needed to bring some defects to their attention. All our issues were solved.
The only real complaint is the restaurant. The food is average quality but the servers do not understand the order in which to bring food to the table. Expect to get all your food slow and at once. Sometimes, you may get cold food.
- Michelle (10/5): Weekend getaway! - Just lovely! So relaxing....
- Roberto (8/5): Great time in Kawalil Hotel in Amatitlan, Guate - Had a great time and enjoyed the hotel. Except for bathroom (it was a great set-up except it was very hard to get in and out because of the height of the tub). I had my mother in law with me and she had a difficult time getting in and out. Also, the hotel request only two adults with up to two children but the setting would be good for two couples and you would get more tourists coming in.
- tina (10/5): Very Cool Place - We really enjoyed the whole hotel, we did the Santa Teresita thermal pools and that was amazing. That should not be missed. Also had massages and that was great as well. Food was good, service was great. Be aware that this is an eco hotel and there is not air con, and it can get warm but there is a ceiling fan in the room. Loved this place and would go back again for sure.
