• Michael (1/5): Piss Poor - Nothing Floor was sticky. Some kind of stain was on the bed spread. There weren't any toiletries but for the small one shower tubes of liquid soap. The remote didn't work at all. The curtains in the room were soiled with dog urine we guess and the ventilation in the room was so poor that after one shower the entire flooring in the room was slippery.

Staff didn’t want to clean it so they made us move our stuff to the other side of the building. That room didn’t have heat working properly. They gave us a space heater and extra blankets. Every other time we tried getting into our room the key wouldn’t work. And no we didn’t have it near phones or cards. Went to the desk at checkout to ask for a reduction in what we paid and was told no because there was no manager…..our experience was awful

The only made one little pan of each one of the breakfast items they ran out of waffle mix and the people were kind of pigs! they take a plate full of sausage and nothing left for somebody else but that's not the hotels fault.

• Deidre (7/5): It was a last minute spur of the moment decision to go up to alpena from East Tawas, mi. Disappointe - Went down to eat at 8:35 am. Out of eggs, sausage, orange juice, plates, utensils. Slowly, after about 25 minutes a few things got replaced. Still no sausage. Employee was very slow and had to be told to replace items. One man staying there also went back down to kitchen and brought back a stack of plates in order for some to be able to eat what little there was to eat. Refrigerator in breakfast room wasn't clean. Bottom of fridge was nasty. It was disappointing to say the least. While sitting on the toilet when we arrived, I noticed in the corner behind the door there was crud collecting in the corner. That was disgusting. When I went to wash my hands I noticed crumbs of some sort stuck to sides of sink and I used my nails to remove them. Sink drain was stuck down so I had to pry it up to properly drain. The Internet never did work and we complained to the desk numerous times. They kept telling us something different each time. We finally gave up. We were in room 117 on first floor. Cleanliness. More workers willing to move in the kitchen making breakfast.

• BRITTNY (5/5): Not the worst place I've stayed, but wouldn't be my first choice. - The pool area The bedrooms had stained bedding, cob webs in the corners of the room (visible), bathroom shower caulk had black on it. Pool area wasn't stocked with towels, we had to go to the front desk and ask them to stock them. There also wasn't a rest room in that area, so I had to take my kids back to the room to go potty. I would spend an extra $50 to somewhere else.

Toilet seat was real crooked on the toilet. And the floor was gritty. You could hear every door shut and people walking around all hours of the night. Would not stay again. But having a hot soak after a day of physical work feels great. I really wish you could find some quality staff for the bar/grill ( Sneakers). If the prices were a little more competitive, more people would visit. The menu needs a revamp and a GOOD chef. Even if you started serving Indian/Middle Eastern fare. Alpena needs more variety in their restaurants. A marketing professional would do wonders for the hotel as well. Even though you are the least expensive hotel in town, it is not well publicized. A full hotel at a lower price makes more revenue than an empty hotel at a higher price.

• Michelle (5/5): Disappointed and will not be back - The rooms were nice enough. They were clean. The housekeepers were friendly also. It could use some upgrades. Things were painted over that should just be replaced, but over all the room suited our needs. We stayed at this hotel several times as children when it used to be the Holiday Inn. I was happy they kept some nostalgia. The breakfast and coffee were horrible. The reason we booked this hotel was because they had a restaurant lounge in the hotel. We wanted a place to stay that we didn't have to leave if we chose not to. However, when we arrived there was a note taped on the door "due to staffing issues they were closed for the weekend". If I would have been told before hand we could have canceled and went somewhere else. We were not told and then when I asked the person at the front desk he was very blunt and no regard to the fact this was the reason I chose this hotel. He also said our room was not refundable. I was very displeased. If an amenity you advertise is not an option then people should be told prior to their arrival. They contacted us several times for pre check in so why wasn't it mentioned at that time? Wish this would have been handled properly. Also, when reading other reviews it seems most complaints are about the breakfast. The hotel posts a response and they are very snarky. One even said "our breakfast meets Wyndham's standards". So if you are leaving a review expecting to help the hotel make some changes for possible improvements, you will be disappointed. This is the best they are willing to do. This is the reason I will not be back.

• Brandon (6/5): - My wife and I were in town to celebrate my birthday. Nothing too terrible about this place, although the pictures online make it look a lot nicer than it appears in person. Only real complaint was when we were awoken by what appeared to be the fire alarm around 5:30 in the morning. No explanation given at checkout. Kinda weird.
• Anita (8/5): We were very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend this location. - This location is a bit away from downtown but we prefer to be away from traffic. It’s on the main road so only took a few minutes to get there. It was closer to the parks that we wanted to go to. It had the biggest breakfast area we’ve ever had, it was nice not to be crowded into a small room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable for us. The bathroom had a nice big counter and good lighting. We must have been upgraded from the basic king room that I booked because we were pleasantly surprised to have a sofa in the room, thanks for that! The staff was very helpful when we were able to arrive a day early in arranging us to stay in the same room for both reservations. There’s a sports bar/grille on site which was convenient one night when we didn’t feel like going far, food was good, staff there was great! There was nothing we didn’t like.
