Guest Reviews
- David (8/5): -
- George (6/5): Good place to stay but understaffed. - Location is good close to downtown. The facilities are fine, ample room and bathroom. Big property with surrounding garden and parking. Breakfast was decent. Lounge is comfortable. No room service was provided. Nothing was explained at check in. The only staff person did not inform us about the location of towels, no trash was emptied in 3 days of stay, nothing was done in the room. A hole in the wall by the window was reported but remained open during our stay.
- Tatyana (10/5): -
- kaboomkelly (2/5): Disappointed - We stayed at this location in 2024 and the service and food were exceptional. The property doesn’t have any other amenities such as a pool or a gym, but the breakfast was really the standout. We came back this year for Christmas expecting something similar, and it seems that this property has undergone some changes. The hosts were no longer as friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and the breakfast was basically the same quality you could get a motel. For the price, this is really unreasonable. Would not recommend.
- Yadira (6/5): We went for anniversary outing and wanted a quiet romantic place to stay it was pleasant stay but we were expecting more - It was a Quiet location No working fire place, bed was comfy but other furniture needs updating, ceiling light fixture was falling
- Mariya (10/5): Comfortable, welcoming, and exceptional stay in the heart of Taos! - The room was exceptionally comfortable, clean, and had everything you needed. The bed was very comfortable. All guests have access to the main area where there is a cozy fireplace area with coffee/tea and pastries 24/7. Breakfast was delicious every morning. Overall, the property is very pretty, the rooms are comfortable, staff is incredibly kind, and the amenities make the stay great. I would stay here again anytime! The property is also right next to downtown Taos and in a convenient location (10 min. from Taos Pueblo), close to the Gorge Bridge, Hiking, etc. N/A- the entire stay was great!
- Ron (10/5): - Claudia was a wonderful hostess. The hotel is reasonable priced and close to the plaza. It has a sister hotel a few blocks away that is upscale and whose amenities are available to the Palacio de Marquesa's guests.
- Alycia (8/5): A property with missed potential that doesn’t live up to the high price tag. - Good location in a neighborhood just a few blocks from downtown. Easy to get around and nice on-site parking. Access to the affiliated property with pool was nice. The room was clean although very bland (all-white — strange considering Taos prides itself on art). The room we stayed in had lots of little issues including a refrigerator that kicked off and on incessantly, a toilet that ran unless you flushed “just right” and pillows that were all too huge for smaller people. A water kettle was not provided in the room so we had to go back and forth to the main lounge area (until the host finally noticed and offered one up). The breakfast was very basic; like a continental breakfast but with a quiche option. The breakfast room is bed and breakfast-style (one large dining table) which means you need to make conversation with other guests. Although the host mentioned that we could take it back to our room that wasn’t very easy because there aren’t any trays and no cleaning service. Additionally, the property really missed an opportunity by not making the grounds more attractive. Many of the rooms look out on an area that could be lovely if landscaped even a little.
- Jennifer (7/5): Close to town - Really nice bed, friendly staff and easy check in. Plenty of parking, close to town. Room was very cold on check in and took a very long time to warm up. Poor choice at breakfast
- Russell (8/5): - Location was great to be able to get the day started. Great breakfast and area to get going. Host (Luke) was great to vistity with. Could have used a microwave in the room. After a long day of being a tourist it would be nice to be able to have a couple of comfortable chairs and foot stools to rest up and watch some TV.
- kristine (10/5): - Luke was very helpful and kind Refrigerator noise
- Dennis (10/5): - Bed and breakfast in this unique place, beautiful room and gorgeous atmosphere..highly recommend
- Amonda (8/5): - Great place! Will definitely stay again!
- Scott (10/5): - Great breakfast, location and vibe.
- Laura (10/5): - Breakfasts were great. We had quiche, chobani yogurt, fresh berries, bagels, pastry, juice and coffee offered each morning.
Provided safe parking for vehicle.
Room was a little dusty.
Luke was friendly and very accomodating.
- Theodore (8/5): - Nice place, nice staff. A/C was portable units with hose to window, noisy and not as effective as built-in. Probably not an easy upgrade in this beautiful building
- Larry (10/5): - Breakfast was great. Parking was safe and easy.
- Mark (10/5): - The property manager communicated well before my stay and was very welcoming and informative upon my arrival. The room was spacious and aesthetic, with an especially large shower that included a sitting platform. The landscaped grounds were attractive and there was ample parking proximal to the room. Moreover, the location was excellent for Taos Plaza, restaurants, Kit Carson Blvd., and hiking. All but hiking was available via a quick walk and mountain hiking was a very reasonable drive. Breakfast was good, but boring. The same thing every day. I recommend more variety in the egg/quiche dish and fruit.
- LoveToTravel317 (10/5): Our Favorite Property in Taos - Our recent stay was our third at this lovely property, but since our last stay there have been some welcome renovations and upgrades. Supremely comfortable and very well located, this historic gem has everything the contemporary traveler wants or needs. It's "sister" property, El Monte Segrado, has even more amenities (like a pool and gardens), but is larger and less secluded, but Palacio guests are able to access all of its amenities. Palacia is a greater value and has a simple but delicious breakfast included. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Taos, and highly recommend this property.
- marti (10/5): - We loved Palacio de Marquesa. Room decor is very charming and property is quiet and peaceful. Staff was friendly and very helpful, breakfasts were delicious. Would definitely stay again.
- Renelda (10/5): - Property was very private, quiet and well maintained. We were very pleased with the accomodations. Breakfast was excellent!
- Miluse (10/5): - Beds and breakfast
- Stephanie (9/5): -
- Michael (4/5): - Overpriced, underserviced. Quaint enough room, comfy bed, yummy cookies, just not worth cost.
- Robbie (10/5): - Was easy to find and centrally located.
- Barbara (8/5): - Luke, the manager was wonderful and very accommodating. Breakfast was great and delicious.
Unique property, great ambience, a tad tired.
- rdytogo1 (4/5): Not impressed - When we arrived we were greeted by the innkeeper. Checkin was quick. We were told that he lost his assistant so breakfast the next day will be at the sister property, El Monte Sagrado. It’s a short drive or 10ish minute walk. We chose to walk but, be careful as you may run into dogs running loose on the street, as we did. Three of them barked a lot at us but we kept moving and they lost interest. Another couple walking opposite to us was picking up rocks just in case. This is a residential neighborhood.
The breakfast voucher for El Monte Sagrado was $30 per person so my wife and I each had $19 chilliquilles and $6 coffee After tax and tip we just came in under the $60 voucher limit.
The second and third mornings the innkeeper would provide breakfast on property. Offerings were supermarket bagels with packaged cream cheese, unremarkable pastries, OJ, fruit and what seemed like day old frittata. No chef prepared breakfast even though they have a fully equipped restaurant kitchen.
Our room was “the Illumnator”. Yes, the “I” is missing from the plaque. Courtyard is tranquil but seems unkept. Letters missing from plaques on our and neighbors room. Fountain in the courtyard is planted with vegetation vs letting the water run. Weeds too. Lots of leaves on our doormat everyday. Just not very inviting. Don’t see why they couldn’t use a leaf blower to cleanup a little?
As to our room, we found water pressure weak. Screen door didn’t close. Main door was weak and could easily have been broken into in spite of oddly placed dead bolts. The Roman shades on the door allowed an angle to view the bed by someone looking in. The innkeeper said he lives on site but I have no idea if there was anyone patrolling the property.
There are two sinks and a large shower.
A very loud standalone AC unit is next to the bed. One of those unit that has a big tube running to a window so difficult to move it. Earplugs are required to get to sleep.
Glasses and cups not wrapped, just washed and not very well.
Oddly the room has a four poster frame, why? It has the unique effect of blocking the middle of the TV if you’re relaxing on the right hand side of the bed. Also the modern furniture conflicts with the southwestern theme. Very odd chrome/silvery metal chairs and 60s white pedestal table. Weird.
The b&b is very close to downtown but requires walking on a road with very little sidewalk. Not a showstopper but might be an issue for some.
I don’t know why the reviews are so high. There’s no chef serving wonderful breakfasts as in previous years and the property just doesn’t live up to the hype, our room especially. I would book the El Monte Sagrado if we visit again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Special B&B - Very cute and quaint B&B. Very nice grounds but could be even better if they maintained it better. Old property but a lot of character. Great customer service and very nice main meeting space where they serve breakfast, have coffee and snacks. Rooms are nice but AC did not work well and was noisy. Overall, definitely recommend but realize this is an old hotel.
- edward (8/5): -
- Robert (9/5): Quite luxurious historical accommodation with easy walking to many sights and restaurants. - Spacious room and lovely terrace. Easy to walk into centre of town. Great shower. Somewhat noisy fridge or air conditioning but everything worked well!
- Elizabeth (10/5): It was a perfect stay and all was excellent! - It was private and beautifully appointed. I liked everything!
- Diane (10/5): - Such a wonderful charming property. Quiet neighborhood, beautiful courtyard. Awesome room!
- MICHAEL (6/5): - It’s quaint, but the property itself is well kept. The landscaping and garden area needs some work. Their sister property is much nicer.
The room was nice. The comments raved about the breakfast but it was the same quiche every morning with very limited other options, it was a bit disappointing. Would probably not stay there again
- Laine (9/5): -
- Jorge Ignacio (9/5): - The rooms were large and comfortable. Great bathrooms!
Breakfast was at a different hotel (a "sister property" a fancier resort three minutes away from Palacio de Marquesa). We had USD30 per person covered, which was more than enough. It was all delicious The air conditioning in our room could not be turned off. I ended up unplugging it, but it was a very minor inconvenience in an otherwise very comfortable stay.
- Sarah (10/5): An Enchanting Room and Wonderful Experience! - Everything about this was wonderful. The service was personal and exceptional. Lucas, the manager was first rate. The property is nestled among cottonwoods just SE of downtown. It was quiet and close. Our room was spacious and lovely with a courtyard garden area, dining area, fireplace, coffee, fridge and AC. The bathroom was huge, beautiful and spa like. The jetted tub and walk in shower all done in marble. Exceptional!!! The kids enjoyed the pool located at a larger sister property and we all loved a gourmet breakfast there. Our mistake was not having cash to leave for gratuities. The service was always impeccable!
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional value. - Very quiet place close to downtown Taos and Taos Pueblo. Large beautiful bathroom! Great communication and excellent breakfast at sister resort. Everything was great!
- Leslie (10/5): - It was very quiet and peaceful. There were only 8 rooms at this B and B, so the stay felt personable and special. The staff were very accommodating, knowledgeable about the area and helpful. The room was beautiful and very clean.
- THERESA (10/5): - Sam checked us in and was personable, quick and attentive to our needs. The room was larger than anticipated, had a clean, spacious bathroom and we loved the natural light from the skylights. Breakfast quiche was also tasty.
- Thomas (2/5): - Advertised buffet breakfast. After I signed in and paid, handed me a voucher and said if I wanted the breakfast I just bought, I would have to drive to a different hotel.
- Steven (10/5): - Nicely updated property. Breakfast is at sister hotel, but was the best free hotel breakfast I have ever had....well worth driving a few blocks to get
- Carol (10/5): - The host (Luke) was awesome!!!
- Vicki (8/5): Very good -
- LaDonna (8/5): - The property was lovely, we were assigned the Diva Room, and we stayed 4 nights here on the recommendation of friend- so I really wanted to love it. We didn’t get to experience the fabulous service nor on-property breakfast as we never saw anyone onsite.
Pros: Beautiful property, Location, Parking, contactless checkin, Courtyard, Cleanliness, Comfortable bed, coffee in room, breakfast voucher to sister property is generous.
Cons: Breakfast several blocks (20 minute walk) away, Self serve-supplies/toiletries/towels, loud free standing AC window unit, limited natural light in room during day, low water pressure, and coffee cream pods were rotten and black coffee it was.
Note: it seems maybe they are going through a transition as our experience was very different from previous reviews and our friends recommendations. The property is lovely, but some items should be addressed. Also- please note the true distance to breakfast at sister property on check-in instructions. It’s MUCH further than 1 block.
- Steven (8/5): Well worth a visit but breakfast was indifferent. - . The room and facilities were excellent. Very comfortable bed. Two wash hand basins and good shower. Definitely the weak part of the stay. Only one hot dish - quiche. No bread to toast, only bagels. Fruit was blackberries or strawberries. Apples and oranges available whole. Coffee indifferent. Orange or cranberry juice.
- Miriam (10/5): - Nicolas was the true hero of this stay. Fork the expertly cooked breakfast to his welcoming manner and recommendations, I could not speak more highly of him and the Palacio. It was a beautiful location, perfect room and so comfortable. We enjoyed our stay so so much and will look forward to staying again.
- Guillermo (8/5): good stay - Location, calm and Tranquility, good to rest in silence. Friendly manager in the property. Fantastic breakfast in nearly adjacent sister property. air conditioning unit did not work
- Sandra (9/5): We had a relaxing night’s stay at Palacio de Marquese! We’ll come back. - The room was simply decorated and very peaceful. Everything was clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom perfect. Breakfast (included) at their sister establishment was wonderful! The grounds ae lovely and we enjoyed a few minutes outside after dinner. Although the temperature was maintained well and comfortably with the A/C, the fan ran all night and was fairly loud. It was a “white noise” so it was fine once we were asleep. It would have been nice to have a second chair to relax and read. Instead, one of us sat at the table.
- Cyndonna (6/5): Very disappointing for the price. - Quiet shady location. Breakfast is not on property but a mile away. Minimum wait time for breakfast was half an hour. The bathroom wasn’t very clean. The grounds are not maintained. Everything is pretty much self serve. The AC unit sits into the room and is very loud.
- Deborah (6/5): A bit expensive for one room with no on site amenities - Quiet Coffee and cups in room too small
Courtyard need a fountain and some better features
- Greg (10/5): - The manager was very helpful in our first visit to Taos. The location was close to the galleries and downtown area. Nice quaint B&B. Highly recommend.
- Connie (4/5): Lovely property just needs some TLC. - Location was good. Staff was friendly. Could focus on better cleaning and we had maintenance issues on the cooling system, coffee maker wasn't working, ceiling fan one speed very high. They have updated the rooms but needs more attention on cleaning.
- Benjamin (8/5): - Luke communicated with us early and was always available for help. The property was clean and well kept up. Walk into the main entry and you’re greeted by a supply of umbrellas, coffee and/or fresh water infusers and plenty of seating with attractive outdoor patios for relaxing. Sam, who did housekeeping, was very pleasant and the rooms showed their commitment to cleanliness. Beds were luxurious The jacuzzi tub was huge, but the hot water supply not QUITE as much as needed for a hot bath, and as often is the case, the nozzles of the whirlpool itself put out a small bit of mold. The portable air conditioner worked well until the vent to the window inexplicably detached and the room got warmer than the outside temp. We just opened the door. The room was huge and very comfortable.
The only unexpected item was the necessity of traveling to the sister property for the complimentary breakfast. The food was wonderful, as was the shuttle driver, Everett, who was also the valet at the larger hotel. During a busier season, that could be an inconvenience but it was fine for us in the early season which had below capacity booking at both properties. It’s close enough to walk on surface streets with some traffic and few sidewalks if the weather is good.
All in all, I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. It was a wonderful trip. Thanks to the staff for our first visit to Taos.
- Blakey (9/5): Lovely, peaceful property, a short drive from the plaza - Lovely property, comfortable and peaceful. The included breakfast was offered at their sister property, a short drive away.
- Greg (8/5): - It was a little less luxurious than I was expecting but was adequate for our needs.
- David (10/5): Great getaway place without all the noise and bother of a regular hotel. - Excellent place to "get away" from the normal hotel experience. Beautiful courtyard with just a few rooms, no hustle and bustle, just quiet time off the beaten path. Nothing.
- Paul (10/5): - The warm sugar cookies were the clincher! Seriously it was absolutely delightful. We had every thing we could want, the room was spacious, large bathroom, and the patio area was lovely to sit and enjoy the evening with a glass of wine. Perfect little hideaway!
- David (10/5): Wish all hotels were as good - Excellent service Nothing
- herebedragons (6/5): Disappointing room, great breakfast. - We stayed in the Matriarch suite which has its own "library". It looks very nice on the website but had a lot of negative points. The rooms were very dark and though the "library" was nicely furnished the bedroom was cramped with an extremely high bed. The air con was a unit with a hose taped through the window! The "patio" was also cramped, with high walls and a small table and chairs, unswept, it was not very welcoming. Bathroom was nice. Breakfasts were excellent. Service wasn't great, very rarely anyone around.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Denise (10/5): - Lovely property with a beautiful and spacious room. The place is vey quiet and comfortable! Everything was lovely!
- Ray (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amalia (10/5): - The property is older but they have done a great job updating it. It is not perfect but Luke and Sam try to accommodate any concerns. They are super hospitable! We stayed in the Matriarch Suite and it is a big space. We will definitely visit again in the fall! Breakfast is included and it is phenomenal!
- Janet (7/5): Different. - The rooms were modern and outfitted to a high standard. It was situated in a nice leafy neighbourhood very close to the center of Taos old town. The shower in our room had no hot water. In my sister’s room, the fridge started making noise at midnight; she finally had to unplug it. The caretaker shrugged off both of these issues and it wasn’t clear that anything would be done about it. The ad does not mention that you have to drive to another hotel for breakfast.
- Barry (10/5): - It’s tired.
- Elana (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (10/5): - .
- Rebecca (8/5): Traveling through - Beautiful room, not spotless, shower not spotless toiletries below average. Staff very nice. Fountain not on, dog area rough.
- Todd (10/5): - A charming property with spacious rooms, a tasty included breakfast, and wonderful husband and wife hosts. Easily walkable to central Taos, and a short driving distance to most other noteworthy sites & adventures. We loved this small hotel and would highly recommend it. Again, the hosts deserve high praise for their warm hospitality.
- Debra (6/5): - Our issue was being sent to a “sister property” for our included breakfast. We gave our name to the hostess (Lea) At El Monte Sagrado hotel reception but did not receive our breakfast vouchers. We were traveling with another couple (family) and the waitress covered most of our breakfast with their two vouchers. The mistake did “rub me the wrong way.” When I spoke to reception again after breakfast, she found my name on the list emailed from Palacio De Marquesa hotel. It made for an unpleasant situation…and we had to get up a drive off property for our meal.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Needs some spiffing up for the price.
- Karen (10/5): Lovely stay, amazing breakfast and location, great host. - Beautiful and close to everything. Very clean and the people who checked us in and out were very nice.
- CornfieldsIllinois (10/5): Great location terrific room. - The location is great. Luke and Sam were terrific! Our room was perfect. Nice quiet location. The room was lovely but the staff was outstanding! Taos is amazing and we will return. You get breakfast but it was at the main hotel which is a quick drive or easy walk.
- Karina (10/5): - We loved our stay at Palacio Marquesa during our weekend in Taos. The place is charming and peaceful, with access to amenities at their sister properties like the pool and fitness center.
The hospitality was excellent—Sam greeted us by name and made us feel truly welcome.
The only downside was the breakfast. It was very limited, offering just one main item along with some fruit and pastries. If you have any food allergies, you're basically left with just fruit, which isn’t ideal considering the higher price for breakfast.
Other than that, it’s a great place that I highly recommend. Next time, we’ll definitely return—just without the breakfast add-on.
- Nancy (8/5): - Room was esthetically pleasing but i was disappointed with the housekeeping. Stayed two nights, bed not made, used towels not replaced, room lighting poor. Table lamp not bright enough to read by, overhead lighting too bright to leave on if bed partner wants to sleep. Shower beautiful but shower head too small. Overall, lovely aesthetics but poor functionality.
- Edward (8/5): - Nobody around when we arrived. Had to call someone to let us in.
No breakfast at property. Had to go to their sister hotel which had abysmal service but great food when it FINALLY came. The sister location HAS to be in cahoots w/ DOGE. Severely understaffed.
- Todd (8/5): Very good -
- Quest580417 (4/5): Not really! - If you are into rooms without housekeeping service, lukewarm showers with almost no water pressure, malfunctioning toilets, clogged sinks, and surroundings that have seen better days, this could be the right place for you! Be prepared to walk thirty minutes to a separate breakfast location, wait another thirty minutes to be seated, and then another thirty minutes to receive your meal!
- Thorsten (4/5): - If you are into rooms without housekeeping service, lukewarm showers with almost no water pressure, malfunctioning toilets, clogged sinks, surroundings that have seen better days, this could be the right place for you! Be prepared to walk thirty minutes to a separate breakfast location, wait another thirty minutes to be seated, and then an additional thirty minutes to receive your meal!
- Marianne (8/5): Very good - Luke was. professional, friendly and most helpful
- janet (10/5): - Very friendly and clean.
- lisa (10/5): - all excellent
- Gina (8/5): Lovely place, but a little worn. - Charming, small hotel. Our room, while clean and stylish, seemed worn. Especially the floors in both the room and bathroom. The manager Luke was wonderful and very accommodating. We really enjoyed having access to the lobby/dining area after hours for tea and hot cocoa.
- Karolina (10/5): - Love ,love this place ! Very attentive staff, excellent service and accommodation! Will be back !
- Mark (4/5): - The Palacio De Marquesa is kind of "rustic". Which is to say, the central heat doesn't work (they provide portable electric heaters, which sometimes work). If I'm paying around $100 per night, I don't mind rustic. But they charge $300 per night, for which I expect a lot better.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely, quiet and quaint property. Would absolutely book again
- Stephanie (10/5): - The Palacio in Taos was a wonderful clean place to stay for 2 nights. The staff was very friendly, the amenities were plentiful, the bedroom and bathroom were roomy, and the breakfast was delicious.
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- Douglas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Soo (10/5): Wish we could have stayed longer! - The breakfast was exceptional and the staff very knowledgeable
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Randy (9/5): Exceeded expectations! - Absolutely wonderful breakfast. !!
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): - I grew up in Taos (1945-1965). This was a perfect base for a nostalgia visit.
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeanne (10/5): Surprised fine - This was a pleasant surprise. A few minutes outside Taos and beautiful. Service and our breakfast was excellent
- LoveTripAdviser09876 (8/5): Great Breakfast - Comfortable but dated. Good location. Pleasant outdoor spaces. Air conditioning was weak.
Breakfast was exceptional. Four stars because I thought it was overpriced. Don’t miss tour of Pueblo Taos. The Harwood Museum is also worth a visit.
- Paola (7/5): Good - The place could be very charming - the stuff is very kind and The organization and the bre
- Natalie (10/5): Beautiful and so comfortable - Walking distance to all in the area, amazing breakfast and such a beautiful property. The room was wonderful and comfortable
- Brian (10/5): - Great place. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.
