Guest Reviews
- JEAN-PIERRE (10/5): - GLOBALEMENT TRES SATISFAISANT
Lage super.
Direkt um das Hotel herum alles sehr dreckig (Hinterer Eingangsbereich, Tiefgarage, See).
- Robert (10/5): Absolutely charming. - Absolutely charming hotel. A little dated perhaps but for me, that just adds to the charm. The location is absolutely superb and there is car parking below (unfortunately my van wouldn’t fit). There is a fabulous outdoor pool as well so bring your speedos 👍
- Helen (4/5): Good location but bit run down - On the plus side : great location, free parking and good buffet breakfast €12.50pp extra and bed was comfortable and free water in room. Bad side : really dirty, old hotel needing tlc. Water constantly dripping from ceiling if use air conditioner. Had to use towels to soak up.
- Anette (6/5): - The room was extremely hot with only a ventilator to try and cool it down. It was impossible to sleep with the windows open at nigh because of the traffic noise.
The proximity to the city centre and everything else was outstanding.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ganske gammel innredning, men ellers ganske greit. Ren og fin seng, og generelt rent og pent, men gammel innredning.
- Casper (4/5): Nej tak! - Beskidt. .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel antigo, um pouco mal cuidado
A fuir!!!!
- Jeff (10/5): - So I booked this location after an issue with another hotel. I only wish that I had discovered this one first. The location was great, right next to most major attractions.
The hotel staff rocked, and everyone was very helpful. I would certainly stay here again
- Wayename (10/5): - Centralité du lieu
- Dawn (4/5): Good location undermined by poor conditions - The elevator from the underground parking was broken; access was via two flights of a filthy litter/empty liquor bottle strewn stairway. While the room was clean, it was a bit dinghy and the flickering bathroom light was a concern. A stretch of the hallway walls was coated with dirty adhesive where the wallpaper had been removed. Another section smelled of dead animal and the carpet was filthy and torn. When we spoke to the front desk about an attempt by someone to enter our room with a key when the "no need to clean room" sign on the handle, the clerk assumed it was housekeeping despite the person not having such identification/outfit and dismissively declined to investigate.
Dommage.
- Walid (10/5): - A
- noel (8/5): - Zeer behulpzaan en vriendelijk. Dicht bij binnenstad. Gratis parkeren.
Goed bed. Twee fauteuls op de kMdr
- ANTOINE (8/5): hotel vieillot et super bien placé - hotel vieillot et super bien placé.
Personnel accueillant et dévoué
Aurait besoin d'etre rénové
- Fausto (8/5): - In pieno centro storico ,parcheggio comodo, consigliato
- Antoine (10/5): - Amazing view.
Charming old place.
Needs to be refurbished a bit.
But very nice.
- Harry (8/5): Kiva hotelli keskustassa - Netti yhteys heikko/huono ainakin meidän huoneessa.
- wayne (4/5): Smelly Room - Very run down and smelly hotel. The room stank of urine and was very old and tired.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Proximity to cultural, historic and shopping in central Metz area was excellent. Food in attached restaurant was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. Access halls were dated, needing updating. Lock on door is safety concern as needed to be locked from the inside, creating danger if fire. Door creaked loudly, like opening a crypt!
- Alyssa (10/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clearly renovated recently. I was with a baby and the layout was great- entry hall with WC and a door to the room, so i was ablw to meave the srroller and shoes there, shower/sink area also had a door. Furniture was simple... i felt comfortable letting my little one crawl around and pull herself up. There was one spot that housekeeping missed (under the luggage rack) so i used my suitcase to block it.
Only cons were:
Steps at both entrances. Staff helped with the stroller, but a ramp could easily be added to the back entrance.
The parking garage. Location was great and i know the hotel doesn't control it, but it needs some care.
- Douglas (8/5): - I would rate as quirky. very convenient for the old town. parking great.
Super sized rooms. beds very comfortable. great breakfast.
- Barry (6/5): Metz - a Visit - Hotel is in an excellent position to visit Metz. Breakfast good. No frills hotel.
Has access to underground parking, not easy to get to, with the one way roads in place and the little access road you need to use along side Rue Belle-Isle, when you turn sharp right out of Rue du Pont Saint-Marcel.
No air con, though a noisy fan in room.
Loo seat in our room have shifted off centre over the years and moves about. Reported top reception, not fixed.
Metz was bussing, when we visited and there are many, many restaurants, a large number, < 10 mins from hotel. Enjoyed wandering around the old city, seeing the architecture, museums, etc.
- Greta (10/5): - Heerlijk verblijf in Hotel du Theatre: prachitige locatie en heerlijk ontbijt!
- Ronald (8/5): - A really great spot to stay if you want to take in the old city section of Metz. It is only a short stroll from the hotel to the cathedral and the main attractions. The hotel has a lot of charm but it is a little tired in appearance and the carpets are in need of replacing. It does have a lift - which is a real bonus. The breakfast is very good. There is free parking in an underground parking lot from which you can access the hotel.
- Gustav (8/5): Good hotel with excellent location. - Very good hotel at walking distance from downtown Metz. Very friendly service, good breakfastbuffet, and a garage for the car around the corner. Plus very nice backyard with the branch of the river. I would recommend this place. ( I was there on my holliday.)
- Ilya (6/5): - ................................................................................
- Randi (10/5): - Et ualmindelig dejligt gammelt hotel med en rigtig god placering for gående. Dejlig morgenmad i hyggelig gammel storstue.
- Daniel (10/5): - Wonderful little hotel, great location and free parking. Very lovely stay.
- Dan (8/5): Great stopover - Friendly helpful staff, amazing building in central location. Only downside decor dated.
- shane (10/5): - Fantastic experience, staff were so good, excellent location, no complaints.
Staff do not get enough recognition in most hotels, They are the lifeblood of any establishment.
- William (2/5): Tired, dirty and disappointing - The advertised photos bore little resemblance to the reality. Hard to find entrance, indifferent reception, tired decor, smelly corridors, stained toilet. No air con. Lift from underground car park not working. This was by far our worst experience of the entire three week trip.
- Tess (10/5): - The area is spectacular but the hotel rooms are just meh
- Geraldine (8/5): - The Hotel was fine, decir a bit dated but acceptable. Room was a good size with good shower over the bath. Great location. Would gladly use the hotel again but not the car park. Warnings for height of vehicle but not width! Slope down and out narrow withquite high kerbs, so unless you have a vehilce with large tyre depths you are likely to scrape your wheels, as we discovered.
- JULIA (10/5): - The staff is great!
- Stephen (4/5): Poor! - Very friendly and helpful staff, good location and free parking...
However, the bedroom carpet had ground in dirt and stains, the lobby had higher level cobwebs, the bathroom shower holder was missing and the wallpaper by the skirting boards looked mouldy.
The car park didnt feel secure, smelled if urine but isn't owned by the hotel.
Very disappointing!
- John (8/5): Great family room but cold - Location was great. Parking was a little sketchy.....room was huge....it was rally cold though. Hotel is run down but over ok
- John (4/5): Great location - that's about it. - Hotel is extremely dated. Free parking is only good if you have a small vehicle, otherwise, good luck. Heat shut off somehow in n the middle if the night and we had to run hot water for at least 2-3 minutes before getting any hot water. Carpets in the hallway look filthy. Wallpaper was peeling away from the wall in the room. Great location - really the only redeeming part of the stay.
- Peter (8/5): Good stay! - Cozy, clean hotel. Good location! Breakfast is very good!
- Rachel (8/5): Great location - This hotel has the potential to be an amazing boutique hotel someday if someone can put some love (and money) into it. At its current state it is a bit dated and run down. However, it was perfectly acceptable for a last-minute weekend trip for our family and the price was right. The location was great, a five minute walk to the cathedral and beginning of the pedestrian zone. Bonus points for being dog friendly! The hotel also offers free parking in a nearby underground garage but as other reviewers have mentioned, beware-the entrance/exit to the garage is a VERY tight fit and took a lot of reversing and maneuvering to get into. We have a Toyota RAV4- anything larger than that will probably not get into the garage.
- Rick (8/5): - OK
- Morten (8/5): Very good place to stay. - It was a pretty nice small old hotel, the rooms was a small apartment with 2 floors, the staff was friendly and the rooms were clean overall a very good place to stay for the money you paid.
- Nazim (8/5): Ok for 1 night - Came in a night and parking is not sign posted and if you have a big car, tricky. Pleasant hotel snd 3 minutes from cathedral and centre. No wifi in the room..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A good hotel in a lovely town.
The staff were helpful.
My girlfriend is gluten intolerant which the breakfast buffet didn’t cater well for.
The car park was free but a little insalubrious. The hotel itself was much better though.
- Werner (6/5): - The hotel needs urgent up dating. The location is great though, but if it was any more expensive, you would stay elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean, great location - I booked this hotel at the last minute and then read the reviews in more detail and instantly regretted booking..however, when I got to the hotel, (yes it is old and a little run down) I honestly have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. The room/bathroom I had (201) was clean and overall was comfortable. The only downside was that no Wifi was possible in that specific room (I think certain rooms have access). The location was perfect and would stay again.
- Lynda (8/5): Location good hotel in need of an update - Fantastic location. Friendly staff. Run down hotel in need of TLC but still comfortable.
- Alan (6/5): - The hotel is central to old Metz. The room we stayed in had character and a nice view back to the temple Neuf and water. Our actual room was comfortable - however there was the residual smell of smoke . Within the actual hotel it is in dire need of renovation. The hallways and carpets are disgusting and smelly. The staff were nice and helped us with our needs. We only stayed for one night and as our room was comfortable I think it was reasonable for the price.
- Kerstin (4/5): - Hotel sehr renovierungsbedürtig. Gut ist die Lage.
- bruce (10/5): Top of our list - Great location. Wonderful staff. Very good value
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Close to main part of Metz. Left a very good polo shirt but no note from hotel.
- David (6/5): Unexpected! - Not what expected. Added real/updated photos. No internet in room as advertised.
- Geoffrey (6/5): Like to stay in city centre location - Good to have free parking nearby. Room is spacious. Corridor to our room suffering from wear and tear : carpets and wallpaper peeled off and marks on the carpet. Everything looked tired and could do with a fresh makeover!
Swimming pool had moulds on all 4 sides of the pool walls and I tried it with my fingers and moulds came off the surface, meaning that it had not been cleaned up for ages. Disappointedly we dare not use the pool fearing for our health. I pointed this out to the receptionist but nothing was done...
- Peter (4/5): - Room was tatty and mousetrap. I’m upset I got charged for bringing dogs. This wasn’t obvious on the website.
- Hayfa (4/5): Very disappointed with this hotel - No air conditioning in hotel, temperature outside and in rooms was about 34 degrees, we booked 2 rooms our room did not even have a fan, we had to find a supermarket that is open in the evening to by a fan, since the receptionist (Evelyn) informed us that there were no other fans available. After we returned in the evening, another receptionist gave us a cleaner room which did have a fan!
The hotel is dirty and in bad state of repair, carpets and wallpaper were very badly stained.
Other than the first receptionist all the other staff were friendly and helpful
- Mrs Linda (10/5): Lovely stay - Amazing little hotel, full of character
- Paul (4/5): a risk - Great location plus hotel had free parking. Bathroom was clean but the carpet in the room was filthy and bedding/furniture outdated. I didn't ask to change rooms - just wore my shoes around - but should have. They should update the flooring beofore giving the keys of this room to anyone. The pics on this site are not reflective of the rooms I saw. If they were willing to send a customer to my room, you may want to be aware and be ready to ask for another room.
- steve (10/5): Beautiful Metz and Antique Hotel - This hotel is not Best Western type cheap and just clean hotel. My family had to find any hotel near Luxembourg on the way to Paris because our travel schedule was changed. Unexpectedly, this hotel and city was so beautiful that we were very impressed. Staffs are very friendly if you open your mind. Parking in its garage needs skills like in Paris. I traveled Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Colongne, Luxembourg and Metz this time. but I wish I could come back here again more than other places.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Non smoking room stank of cigarettes. - Windows too high to see out of, one didn’t open. Steep very shiny wooden stairs up to mezzanine bed area. Room very warm. Asked to move and was told hotel full!!! I don’t think so judging by the car park that was virtually empty
- Brenda (4/5): Hotel Du Theatre - The Hotel was in a good location. When we walked into the lobby it looked very nice but once we got out of the lift the smell was awful and the hession covering on the wall was falling off. When we got into our room the smell was still really bad we had to open the windows and spray perfume to make it smell better. The wallpaper was peeling off but the bed was clean and the room was a decent size
- Corrissa (6/5): Good value, if a little old - The hotel is a little old as tired in the corridors, but our room was very comfortable. There are portable air conditioning units. The parking is a little tight, but free, which is very useful. Wifi does not reach everywhere in the hotel. Location is excellent and we really enjoyed Metz. There is a boulangerie on the corner for breakfast.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad place to stay. - Very run down facility. Will not stay again.
- Susan (6/5): - Really needs some updating , fresh painting would lighten in and help with the smells. Portable room coolers would have been helpful too!
- Anthony (2/5): I would rather sleep in my car. - This place is an absolute dump. As soon as you walk in the lobby you are greeted with the wonderful smell of rotten garbage, or maybe it was a decomposing corpse. I'm not sure. Then you get to walk through the hallway with the flickering lights, shredded wall paper and carpet that looks like it's previous life was soaking up oil in a garage. All the while it is hard to breathe from all the strong perfumes they use to cover up the smell of god knows what. Once you get to your room the surprises continue. The carpet looks like it came out of a butcher shop and there is mold growing EVERYWHERE! Long story short, stay away!
- hf (4/5): Comfortable beds. Nice staff. - Comfortable beds and nice staff! Great location though.
The hotel is definitely in need of some attention! The canal was full of garbage and the jute wall coverings were peeling off the walls. Wholes in the carpet erc. Quite shabby. The pictures made it better than reality.
- DH (6/5): Perfect location for the old town - Easy to find within one way streets and secure underground parking for cars (typicaly tight tunnel down to parking but good sized bays). Lift up to ground floor. Hotel reception is the lounge and adjacent to the breakfast room.
Check-in/out was very well prepared and fast.
Staff are very polite and exceptionaly helpful.
Rooms are functional but clean with wall mounted TV and limited satellite channels. Mini-bar in the room but no safe.
Free Wifi in room and public areas.
Hotel (including room) smelt of damp - which we suspect was as much to do with the location (see map) as the building. Note the rear aspect overlooks an artificial pool of water not the river.
Bed was comfortable but too short if you are over six feet. Pillows were soft (did not check for harder ones).
We had a street view so kept the windows shut - they worked fine to cut out noise and air-conditioning was okay.
Room door was old style and required locking from inside.
From within the room you can hear people talking in the corridors.
Not sure suitable for those with wheel chairs or access issues. Security did not appear an issue.
Lounge was comfortable and simply decorated. Only one member of staff working in the evening. They were very pleasant and efficient but service was slow (other people checking-in etc).
We did not take breakfast - choosing to eat out (much to choose from and all within minutes of the hotel).
Only stayed one night.
- Lisa (6/5): Convenient and charming - Kind and welcoming upon check in but made no mention of breakfast. Joining rooms very spacious but one bed was certainly just a fold out couch and quite hard. Noticed a beautiful breakfast tray being delivered to a room as we were checking out. Would have been lovely if we had known of it. Close to town and free parking. Wifi didn't work in the room but was accessible in the hallway and lobby.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic location within Metz - We had a great evening in Metz with our 4 and 1 yr old children. The room was well appointed, albeit a little tired in places and only lacked a kettle from what was expected. Shower was warm
and powerful, and the double sinks and corner bath unexpected. It had a wonderful view towards the cathedral.
The car park was a little awkward for our push chair and other child luggage meaning several trips required but it was secure and free.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Reception was beautifully decorated for Christmas.
Overall the hotel felt like a traditional French hotel, whip offering easy access to Metz and the conviencies we wanted.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Mix of old and new - hotel is tucked in tight to the roadside and we missed it initially and had to swing around the block a few times. has a underground carpark built into the price of the room (ask reception). carpark was a bit sketchy and did feel a bit post apocalyptic with several sections roped off with red tape and some puddles and cracked masonry about but seemed solid enough.. reception big, excellent English by the lady we spoke with. at the time December 2016 no bar but plenty of seating, kind of a mix between a saloon and an old Victorian house but we thought it quite cool. room was simple nothing to flash. think of it as a bed for the night rather than a place you spend heaps of time in.
close to the cathedral and town centre about a 10 minute walk. the hotel has a rustic worn feel and probably needs a bit of a touch up.
- Amy (8/5): - No wifi in room upstairs. We had to keep checking email in lobby. Most rooms have it but were told ours did not.
- Louise (8/5): Great Location, service, ambiance and breakfast - We just stayed one night this time and bought the room plus breakfast package which is more than worth it given what it cost to pay for the buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It is a full breakfast with breads, cheeses, meats, cereals, yogurts, fruits, fruits juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Well worth the extra $10 CAD we paid for the two of us.
We were given a room with two twin beds on the third floor at first, however, because it was in the older side of the hotel it had a half vaulted ceiling with a over loft beam which was obviously too high to dust and clean so the dust factor had me sneezing as I entered the room. After 4 tissues we called down to the front desk and asked for another room because of the dust factor. The hotel was more than accommodating and gave us a large family room on the first floor with a high ceilings and just as much charm without the dust factor. We have stayed in this hotel before given its excellent location to the market, cathedral, restaurants and boutique shopping areas. We came back for the ambiance, the service and the breakfast!
- John (8/5): Would stay again very happy with this hotel. - I have read some mixed reviews for this hotel but I booked it on price and found it perfectly acceptable. The lady on reception was great, when she saw we had arrived on motorcycles she offered the courtyard for secure parking without hesitation and it was free. The room was clean and comfortable. I am very happy with this hotel. I gave breakfast a miss but there's a boulanger next door or a cafe for petit dejeuner a short walk away. The town centre and the University are close by and so finding a bit of life is not hard.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Hotel close to downtown - Pleasant stay, free parking, close by restaurants, lots of sight seing
- Mark (8/5): - It was a one night stop on the way from our holiday in Italy. For the price, we were pleasantly surprised by the elegance of the room. Also, the room was spacious and the sleeping arrangements for the family of four were much better than in other hotels we stayed in. The road outside was quite noisy when we arrived but the room was very quiet. The central location of the hotel was two minutes walk from the amazing town centre and it was possible to find restaurants serving food even late in the evening. The staff were friendly and helpful, giving us the directions to the town centre and the map. Free parking as promised, although the car park itself was a bit dark and run down, and, at first, it was not clear if it was free or not, as there were ramps at the entrance. The hotel pool looked enticing, but, alas, we did not get a chance to use it. We all felt we would like to come back to Metz and spend more time there.
Overall, very good value for money.
- John (8/5): Good value for money. - Room and bathroom good. Excellent reception. Difficult access to garage but free of charge. Hotel corridors and some areas need some redecoration but I understand that they recently had a major fire in lower ground floor.
- David (10/5): Nice Hotel Right in the Center of Town - This hotel had a great location right in the center of town. We got a family room which was very unusual, it was very large, two rooms, but it was under the roof so much of the room had a slanted ceiling making you have to bend over to get to parts of the room. The worst thing for us and our kids is that the wifi didn't work in our room, so we had to use the computer in the lobby to get on-line. The view from our room was outstanding! The free parking was a bonus!
- mike (8/5): - Great location in city center. Very friendly staff
