Guest Reviews
- David Julian (7/5): Good visit - Good More tomatoes as I only chose bacon and tomatoes for breakfast
- lesley (10/5): Very happy stay and would book again and recommend to friends and family - Very friendly staff. Excellent food. Great location Very happy. Nothing negative to say
- Cyril (9/5): -
- Iris (6/5): -
- david (10/5): Restful and peaceful - Very nice location beautifully laid out pub and really nice room with great breakfast the next morning highly recommend
Really friendly staff welcoming and great team service
- Andrew (10/5): - Great position in town. All the staff were friendly. Nothing
- Nicola (9/5): Affordable and well connected place to stay, would recommend to anyone visiting the Dungeness and Rye areas. - Excellent location with bus stops right outside, super market opposite and lots of other amenities in New Romney. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The room (3) was comfortable, relatively spacious and surprisingly quiet to sleep in (even on a Friday night!) and breakfast was decent too.
- Norman (8/5): Nice pub in a good location with an excellent restaurant! - Good location, excellent restaurant. A plumbing problem prevented us from staying but the owners quickly found us alternative accommodation nearby, and we had dinner and then breakfast at the Ship. Both meals very enjoyable. Nothing
- Marie (7/5): A Good Nights Stay - I liked the decor the garden and how it was styled. Breakfast was included in the price for a one night's stay. I had eggs florientina, well presented and delicious. A temporary thing; scaffolding outside my room window.
As I am senior in age I found stairs a bit worrying, especially when carrying bags.
- Claytonf (8/5): - Clean, friendly with a great breakfast Noise from traffic outside street facing room which felt cramped.
- PETER (7/5): Moderately comfortable bed, good hot shower & tasty breakfast! - Very good, tasty and filling.
Location excellent. The noise of birds outside my window during the night!
- Claire (9/5): Historic pub with cute and cosy rooms, fantastic menu and staff - Cosy rooms, lovely friendly staff & excellent food & menu. Nothing
- Geraldine (8/5): -
- _StuartC_ (10/5): Fantastic local traditional hotel & great food - Lovely small hotel, housed in a properly old building with traditional features that reek of character (yes, low ceilings and single glazed windows - this ain't a generic Premier Inn type place), brought to life by wonderful managers and staff. And the food, especially the breakfast, is fantastic. You don't often get value for money like this anymore. But if you want bland & monotonous, go elsewhere. They took away the pool table 🙁
- Suzanne (10/5): -
- Ann (9/5): Lovely hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. - Lovely old building. Tastefully decorated. Wonderful, helpful staff. Great choice for breakfast. Good fish and chips. Spotlessly clean. The only complaint we could make is that our room was very cold. Unusual April weather 20 degrees but got very cold in the evening and first thing in the morning.
- Paul (8/5): Excellent value and would definitely stay again. - Location and friendly staff. Room is very cramped.
- Stephen (9/5): If you are visiting this part of the world, an excellent place to stay. - Excellent shower wc, really good breakfast.Very friendly.150 150 miles from where we live, 😂
- Tracey (5/5): - Food and service Room was very cramped owners should try take a shower and shave in the rooms and they will understand what is meant by this. Shower Gel on a shelf totally not accessible No shelves in shower or anywhere to store any toiletries.
- Holman (6/5): Clean and tidy but room way too small for relaxing stay - Staff excellent and nice bar Couldn't swing a cat in the room . Room very cosy and I banged my head twice on entrance into my room . I'm 6 foot 2 1/2. Shower sink and loo in a very tight space and hard to manoeuvre; no glass for toothbrush . My head was only a few inches from light top of the shower . Not a good room for relaxing as would have to lie on the bed
- James (6/5): Nice if slightly compact room, noise from passing traffic woke me up early, but the breakfast was fantastic. - The breakfast was fantastic and cooked to order My room was at the front of the property, which meant there was a lot of traffic noise early in the morning (only single glazed windows). The blind wasn’t really effective at keeping the light out the room.
- Steel (8/5): Nice pub, great food, conveniently located for Cantii Way riders. - Conveniently located if you are doing the Cantii Way bike tour. Very bike friendly. The staff were brilliant, couldn't do enough to help. The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was lovely and extremely good value. Not much to see in New Romney itself, but we weren't expecting that much of the town in all fairness. Definitely recommended. The single bed I had wasn't the most comfortable, but for the price I can't complain - it was very good value.
- Nat (8/5): - Great location and very friendly staff
- Guest (10/5): Lovely weekend break - Breakfast was very good nice choice Nothing
- Hall (9/5): -
- Frank (8/5): Very convenient - Staff were very helpful (especially the man who served and prepared breakfast). Meals were good and well served.
Despite being on a main road the room was quiet.
- Bradders The Boat (8/5): -
- Guy (10/5): -
- Bart (9/5): -
- heather (8/5): Lovely cosy friendly hotel to stay at - Breakfast very good. location good. Staff excellent, very friendly and helpful
- Jayne (9/5): Great experience - Friendly, clean, great value
- Katrina (10/5): -
- Stephanie (8/5): Although I have said what I didnt like the staff are friendly and helpful. - Arriving on a Sunday and not being able to get a meal on arrival and bar shutting at 21:00. No atmospher at breakfast, would be nice to have a tv that showed bbc news in the morning.
- Ian (8/5): Good value for money and great staff, noisy road add plumbing!. - Location is great and all the staff were very helpful and friendly.Good value for money. Single room facing the street so was a bit noisy and a little dated.Old building so the noisiest plumbing I have ever heard.
- Alan (10/5): -
- Rebecca (6/5): Friendly staff. Good food. - Friendly and welcoming staff were the property highlight. Convenient main road location and onsite parking. Good food in the pub’s restaurant. Tiny shower and pokey loo. Room was cold to start and took a fair while to warm up. Twin beds were particularly uncomfortable and the room layout (given the property’s age) meant shenanigans to move about. Our room was above both the pub and the events room that meant dual competing soundtracks and party noise until 9:30pm. Single pane windows didn’t help. Narrow steep stairs to the rooms that are fine for backpacks but cases might be tricky and certainly not great for mobility impaired.
- Brown (10/5): Ideal - Perfect for my one night stay.Staff were helpful getting my bag up and down the stairs.Room was small but adequate and although on busy road not too noisy.Evening meal and breakfast was lovely .I visit someone in a care home close by so will definitely stay again
- inan (10/5): Recommended - Everything was wonderful 👍 Nothing
- Alasdair (9/5): - Breakfast was great. Room was very small, but comfortable.
- Alan (9/5): - Lovely staff and great food
- Crockett (10/5): - The food and the beer N/A
- Jane (9/5): - Very friendly pub with a Lovely crackling fire on a cold winters day
- Kevin (8/5): - Really close to Dungeness A. Excellent breakfast. OK mattress. Excellent Staff
- Gareth (7/5): Clean room, if a little small, with excellent breakfast. Location is still O.K. for Rye - Room was freshly decorated and the linen was fresh, clean and of good quality. The breakfast was exceptional - very big and high quality. Evening meal was also very nice and the ambience downstairs was lively but not too noisy. Location is a bit out on the marshes in New Romney but still convenient for Rye (15 mins drive) without the cost. The room was advertised as a king-bed room - whilst it may have been a king bed in the room, the room itself was decidedly smaller: it left little room to walk around the bed! The view from the window could have been nicer - there were palm-type trees in the rear garden which could have been very pleasant but you needed to look past the cats-cradle of TV ariel wires and rusty satellite dish to see them. Also, the bathroom extractor has an external flap which kept flapping through the night and affected our sleep. Lastly, when I checked in I was asked to pay a supplement for our dog; while the advert on booking.com said 'charges may be applicable' I specifically asked when booking to be informed of the fee. I heard nothing back, other than the usual confirmation and details concerning check-in. I was asked to pay £20/night (20% of room fee) but as I was convinced I hadn't been informed I did not pay, asking for some time to check my reservation. When I checked again, there had been a return message through Booking.com sent at 22:00 the night before we checked in! As this was 48 hrs AFTER payment had been taken and hence outside the free cancellation period, I was not going to pay but as it was never mentioned again at check-out, I assume they realised... So, while some staff were very nice, the check-in experience was soured a little, with the receptionist blaming Booking.com when in fact was themselves for their late communication. Bit of a pity, because other aspects were really nice.
- Nigel (8/5): - Staff were extremely helpful. I had an evening meal which was very enjoyable. Breakfast was also cooked to order and well cooked. There was a lot of noise from the road and traffic most of the night, making sleep difficult. I would recommend that some double-glazing; triple-glazing or at least secondary glazing be installed.
- Katherine (3/5): Outdated, food not very good but staff were friendly - The staff were friendly Very outdated, broken blind in the bathroom so these couldn’t be closed. Breakfast omelette had very salty bacon and the chicken in the salad for the evening meal was very dry.
- Adam (9/5): -
- Les (10/5): Always good - Always good value Food is always good! NA
- paul (8/5): It was ok. Nice people. Bit expensive for what it is but happy enough - staff were great. Very helpful Room was very small. Have difficulty taking a shower or going to the toilet in such a small space.
Breakfast plate - egg placed on bacon and sausages - didn't want that. Other food was good
- Tobi (10/5): -
- Philip (7/5): - Very good breakfast and choice
centrally located for town very hot in the room at night and noise of road if window open
- STEPHEN (8/5): Very pleasant, warm welcome - Lovely staff, very helpful,
Breakfast was lovely, and evening meal,
Reasonable prices Nothing really
- Stephanie (8/5): - Lovely and hot. But felt like I was eating in the dark Bar closed at 21:00 on a Sunday and couldnt get a meal when arrived at 16:45
- Kelly (9/5): We had a very pleasant few days stay in the Ship Hotel. - Lovely rooms lovely pub tasty breakfast and friendly welcoming staff Having to pop the car registration in every day of our stay was a little bit of a pain to remember - maybe guests staying should only have to pop it in once as the hotel knows when we are leaving.
- Jean (7/5): -
- Christine (9/5): - Didn't get much time to experience the location as I was there for a funeral.
The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly There really wasn't anything that was not to like
- Chris (7/5): - Old Hotel had plenty of character and was conveniently located in the town.
Breakfast good
Parking available No evening meal on Sunday
Stairs up to our room could have been cleaner
- Wendy (10/5): We will definitely be returning to The Ship and will recommend it to family and friends. - The Breakfast was exceptional, the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. My husband and I had a wonderful 2 night stay. The on suite bedroom was perfect with all the things needed for a relaxing break, the room was very clean with a view over the garden. The garden was lovely as was the pub and restaurant.
- Maria (10/5): The new manager Peter and he’s wife were very kind helpful and made sure you had everything you needed the rooms had all - We have stayed here before but it was under different management ,
The property is quirky as being and old building so lovely The building is of old in age and very quirky crooked floors, crooked doors because of its age love this about it
- James (9/5): Good - Excellent
- Brian (10/5): -
- martin (10/5): would have no problem telling friends - breakfast was first class with every you could need all was good
- Gary (8/5): -
- Kyle (8/5): -
- Shirley (10/5): - Breakfast was top notch Unfortunately it was a room on the main road side so traffic constantly noisy
- Matthew (7/5): - Great breakfast, great room.

- Linda (8/5): Our stay - We liked the pub itself and the staff were excellent The room was quite basic our bed was very low not suitable for my husband who has back problems. Also to get to bathroom opposite our bed end was a very narrow space to walk to bathroom
- John (10/5): -
- Michael (9/5): I already plan to return now I know how suitable it is for my visits to Littlestone. - It was perfectly placed for our needs. Very welcoming and had everything we required for our one-night stay.

- Dale (10/5): - Comfortable rooms great food
- Dale (10/5): -
- Tilling (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Excellent bar the bus stop - Staff were so helpul and friencly There was a bus stop right outside my room
- Talie (7/5): Nice, pleasant stay - with helpful staff - The cheery landlord is what stands out. The shower was powerful and breakfast nice. Condensation on the windows as they are single glaze which also can be a downside if facing the road
- Stuart (10/5): Still my hotel of choice for Lydd business trips. - Everything. As always, the staff, bedroom and breakfast were great. Don't accept amex, and they've taken away the pool table 🙁
- Trevor (7/5): - Breakfast Room

.
- Les (10/5): Best Breakfast in hotel - Location the staff very good Na
- Chantal (10/5): Love this local pub/hotel. - Great staff. Big thank you to Culham who was there to help with my luggage being that I have a crutch! I will keep returning, Comfortable and clean rooms
- Robert (8/5): - Very good breakfast and the cleanliness of the room. I should think that anyone larger than me might struggle with the size of the room.
- Pete (10/5): -
- Banner (10/5): We will be booking here again - We were working at Dungeness Power Station and found its location ideal, the staff we extremely friendly and very hard working (this was a topic of conversation between myself and my colleague).
The food for Breakfast and evening meal were exceptional and I cannot recommend this place enough, in fact whenever we travel on Le Shuttle or Cross channel ferry we typically stay in Hythe or Folkstone but believe me this place is worth the extra few miles and we will be booking in here next time we cross the channel. Only one very minor negative, watch the step into the bathroom in room 4. Otherwise its a perfect stay.
- Pete (10/5): -
- Kim (8/5): - Well organised check in, warm and comfortable rooms No issues
