Guest Reviews
- Nancy (10/5): - A gem. My family and I spent our last night in Scotland in this beautiful place. The owners are the sweetest human. The house is absolutely beautiful. The deer and sheep land behind the house in this magical Scottish valley is breathtaking. The food perfect. The bed comfortable. I wish we had spent way more days in this little paradise. I absolutely recommend.
- Brian (10/5): The perfect place outside of Edinburgh. - Parkhead House was such a wonderful place to stay. James and Angela are terrific hosts - friendly, helpful, and professional. The property is spacious, comfortable, and equipped. The setting is magnificent - an idyllic countryside retreat that is just 15 minutes from the airport or Edinburgh. We would absolutely return, and I highly recommend it to anyone else.
- Larry (10/5): - James and Angela our hosts are just great people!
Had great conversations with them about the area and most helpful when planning our daily adventures
Breakfasts were fabulous “just like mom use to make”
More amenities than you can imagine
Highly recommend for anyone wanting a wonderful place to stay !

- Alicia (10/5): Beautiful! - Had a lovely time during our one night stay after a long day of driving and sightseeing in Edinburgh. Very cute, comfortable place, great breakfast and walking distance to Lallybroch. Loved the country setting. Host was very welcoming. Really enjoyed it!
- Gilbert (10/5): - It’s one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at. Just wonderful. We will be back.
- Shirley (10/5): Deer from the sitting window - Lovely accommodation
Spacious and clean ... lots of fluffy towels
Friendly hosts nothing too much trouble
Rural and peaceful opportunity to relax
But also handy enough for the city we got the train into Edinburgh for the day
Lots of variety for breakfast all fresh and locally sourced produce
- Mike (10/5): - I cannot rave highly enough about our stay! It was outstanding. One of the best places we have ever stayed. Welcoming, sweet, clean, comfortable, beautiful. I wish we could find some way to make it be our home base for the rest of our travels in Scotland. James was lovely and all our food needs (vegan, GF, vegetarian) for 4 people were thoughtfully accommodated. I can't say enough good things. Just ACE! Unforgettable stay. Thank you!
- Ian (10/5): Lovely accomodation in a countryside cottage. - Very comfortable and lovely setting in the estate. A warm welcome from our host.
- Randy (10/5): - We loved our stay. It was short, but the accommodations were very clean, comfortable, and charming. It was exactly what we were looking for and we wish we could have stayed another day or two.
- Shawn (10/5): - James and Angela were just perfect!!! The cottage was cozy and close to a few Outlander locations which was a big deal to us. Conveniently close to great dining options as well!!!
- Keith (10/5): - Loved the views!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful B&B and location - Wonderful stay. Hosts were so friendly and helpful. Wish we had stayed longer. Room was very comfortable and quiet country location but only 12 minutes to the airport. Would never have guessed you were that close.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Absolutely perfect, the space is really comfortable and well decorated. Shower is fab. The owners are kind and thoughtful. Will definitely stay again!
- Jamie (10/5): - Angela made sure I had dairy free food and she was very helpful when I needed her. James is nice!
- Brandy (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay here. It's a beautiful location with deer and sheep around. The house was lovely, and our host was helpful on arrival and made a great breakfast for us as well.
- German (8/5): - Exelent service
- Krissa (10/5): - Beautiful property with quaint cottages.
- Lisa (10/5): - If you are an Outlander fan, this is the absolute perfect stay. A The best of the best of everything.
- Helen (10/5): Fantastic B&B - Fantastic place to stay couldn’t have asked for more. Would definitely recommend
- Stephen (10/5): Beyond our wildest expectations. - An absolutely superb b & b, possibly the best we've ever stayed in. The hosts have thought of everything, from the dedicated gadget charging stations to the comprehensive in-room consumables. It's in a peaceful location on the edge of a country estate and we were able to watch the deer from our room. No matter how hard we try we cannot find a single fault with this accommodation. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
- Alisa (10/5): Thanks again James - Another stay in the home away from home when visiting Edinburgh, great service offered by the owner James, comfortable choice of rooms subject to availability, fully functional house to use with everything that you'd need and he'll even cook you breakfast 10/10, thank you and see you again soon 👍
- Bonnie (10/5): Would love to stay again - Stayed overnight while travelling through the area. Fantastic B&B! Lovely room with great view. Breakfast was great. Host helpful - he told me about facilities and the area, and helped out a fellow guest whose plans had changed. Photo is of the sunrise from the field directly behind the building.
- Robin (10/5): Best B&B Ever - James and Angela have a beautiful B&B in a fabulous location. It is spotlessly clean, very welcoming and friendly. James makes an excellent breakfast. They really make their guests feel at home, even allowing the kitchen to be used. Definitely coming back! We even had sheep and deer grazing in the back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Welcoming - Amazing B&B. The hosts could not have been more gracious and welcoming. This cottage is set very near (or, on - not really sure) the Hopetoun Estate. Go through the gate in the yard and you are permitted to wander/stroll through the fields of the estate. Plenty of sheep and hundreds of deer to see on this walk. The hosts live next door. The first night we had the entire cottage to ourselves. The cottage is very warm, welcoming, and lovely. The kitchen was available for our use. The dining room is fully stocked with beverages, snacks, books, games, and movies. My child was sick one day, so we sat in the kitchen all afternoon playing board games. Mr. Gourlay came in the mornings to make a full Scottish breakfast if that was your desire. He had plenty of other options, too. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I did not know that this is an area of interest for Outlander fans. He had plenty of advise for those guests, as well. We had 2 rooms to accommodate our family. The rooms and bathroom were spacious and were furnished nicely. Each room had a tea kettle, tea, water, and snacks if you didn't want to go down to the kitchen to help yourself. You can tell that the host, Mr. Gourley, really enjoys his B&B in all of the special touches he provides. This was a lovely stay in lovely place in a very lovely setting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly helpful host. The property was comfortable and homely with everything we could possibly need. The house was tastefully furnished and it was lovely tolsit in bed watching the deer. We will visit again soon if James will have us :-)
- Gill (10/5): - Lovely countryside hotel with fabulous views over the estuary and the Forth Bridges. But more than anything from the moment you arrive you feel like you're being wrapped in a lovely warm blanket. So comfortable, so many thoughtful touches. Lovely place to stay.
- Amy (10/5): - 11/10 - most incredible, beautiful cottage, with charm, character and all the unexpected extras! Hosts were absolutely wonderful and breakfast was phenomenal - we plan to come back here soon!
- John (10/5): - Very convenient for the John Muir Way. James, the host, opened their home to us. He was very friendly.
- Martin (10/5): Great hpuse - Really nice house overlooking a park with wildlife abundant
- Alisa (10/5): Parkhead house Queensferry - Love staying at this hotel when we visit friends a few doors away, clean and tidy with individual rooms and run by James who will do you a wonderful breakfast.
- Yinmao (10/5): - It is in a quiet country road and convenient to city Edinburgh. The room is clean and the breakfast is great !
- jonathan (10/5): If only i could have stayed longer.... - One word...Wonderful. Owner very helpful, room great, breakfast brilliant, lovely view from the bedroom window..for the money cant be faulted. A+++
- Patrick (10/5): - James and his wife were exceptional hosts. They were very helpful and full of valuable information during our stay. When my wife had to leave early because of a family emergency they were very understanding and worked with us to cut our say short.
The room was immaculate and well stocked.. James had excellent breakfast"s which my wife and I both enjoyed. He also had many amenities available including wine and sodas at no extra charge. All in all they were very gracious hosts.
- Fernando (10/5): Fantastic Location & Greatest STAFF EVER! :) - I have been travelling for over 30 years and the location, service and friendliness is unrivaled! 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!! And thank you James!! Your kindness is what makes this place so special! :)
- Cath (10/5): Beautiful situation and fantastic hosting! - We enjoyed our stay here immensely! Everything is to be highly recommended. :-) The surrounding countryside is beautiful, the house itself is lovely and the hosts could not be more helpful and firendly! The breakfast is 100% tasty and there is so much of it! Beds are wonderfully confortable and rooms are gorgeous. :-D
- Kelley (10/5): Perfectly lovely B&B near Edinburgh - James and Angela were as gracious and hospitable as any host could be. We had a lovely stay, enjoying their quiet, idyllic location within walking distance of castles and a beautiful park. The food was fabulous, and the accommodations were perfect for our 2-night stay. I hope to return someday soon, as I feel they are friends, already!
- John (10/5): - Very nice hotel and picturesque location, but it was difficult to find and a bit remote.
- Claude (10/5): Parkhead house - Owner was extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful. Area was beautiful. B&B was beautiful.
- Evan (10/5): 2 night stay - 2 night stay for business. Great experience, the owner is affable & helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent short break - Arrived after a long drive to warm welcome by jame's, who showed me to my room and around the house only had a couple of days business in the area, but it was clean and tidy and nicely presented
- Mick & Mary (10/5): Weekend break - Wonderful just what the doctor ordered, very peaceful but near enough to Edinburgh if needed. Great views and very warm and welcoming owners. It is the little touches that make this location so good, use of a kitchen, fully stacked fridge, with wine.
The rooms are equally well provided for with tea & coffee, snacks and fruit. Nothing you want is to much trouble for the owners, we will be booking again.
- Teresa (10/5): Quiet setting with an easy drive to the airport - What a lovely place to stay! We were only there one night before we flew home from Edinburgh. The location is excellent if you want an easy drive to the airport. The room was very nice and there was an entire kitchen downstairs! I hope to stay there again!
- Darwyn (10/5): - James is very responsive to guests needs and requests.
- Frank (10/5): The thatched cottage is incredible! - We booked our night before flying out of country in the thatched cottage. The stay left us wishing we had booked more time there! The cottage is a completely private building located on a 6,000 acre estate. The only sounds were some nearby sheep and the surrounding woods. the building was very comfortable and clean - with its own living room and kitchen this is a great location for an extended stay. Our host was very kind and delivered a wonderful breakfast the night before as we had to awaken early to catch out return flight.
- James (10/5): Great Inn - The Inn Keeper was great. Anything we needed he got for us. A little out of the way as the GPS took us the back way instead of the longer but faster route. Breakfast was excellent, he even had a honor bar set up for guests.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Parkhead house - a hidden gem - Only 15 mins from Edinburgh airport, host James welcomed me on arrival, making me feel very welcome indeed. Clean, very comfortable and with a superb breakfast, I would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic B&B in a beautiful setting - We had a wonderful 2 day stay at Parkhead House. James and Angela were both very friendly and helpful, going so far as to drive to pick us up at a local pub when we went out walking and got stuck in a sudden rainstorm. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable with a king-size bed and we had a whole separate room for a sitting room. Felt like we were being welcomed into a home during our stay there. Especially appreciated the use of the laundry facilities to get some clothes cleaned while traveling. Breakfast was wonderful and fast. Location is close enough to Edinburgh for a day trip, but far enough away to enjoy the peace of the country. Overall, one of our favorite B&B stays during our 2 weeks in Scotland.
- Susan (10/5): - James was the perfect host, we got lost, . After a quick phone call for directions he was standing outside to welcome us. We were told to help ourselves in the kitchen, fridge etc, plus the breakfast room. Always available to help or answer questions about the local area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location marvellous place - Enjoyed every aspect of this stay- clean warm homely great breakfast etc but what sticks in our mind is the host who kept us entertained with his wonderful stories.
- Reitred teacher (10/5): Country Retreat Near the City - We stayed at this B & B which is in the country, but only a 15 min. drive to Edinburgh Airport. This was our last night in Scotland; we were only there about 12 hours before heading to the airport. Our twin room was very comfortable with a small fireplace (not needed in 70 degree weather) and the bathroom was huge. Included were very soft long terrycloth robes, hot water bottles, a full basket of shampoo, conditioner and other goodies. We left before breakfast was served, but our host made sure there was coffee, tea, muffins, juice and fruit available to us. There were several restaurants within in 15 min. drive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super cute country cottage right on a farm. You need a car because the buses don't run out there. We stayed there our last night in Scotland. There is a nice pub in the nearby village (Newton) about a 2 minute drive, which was very good, but it only serves until 8:30pm. It was a quick 20 minute drive to the airport the next morning on mostly country roads.
- Mary Ann (10/5): Attractive small hotel minutes from EDI - A comfortable small hotel near the charming town of Queensferry. Although it is only minutes from the Edinburgh Airport, it provides the illusion being far in the countryside. Attractively decorated; very clean; an engaging and accomodating proprietor. Would definitely go back.
