Guest Reviews
- Claire (4/5): was disappointed - Location was accessible, large car park No WiFi available. Room was cold dispute the heating being on. Given a electric heater but very noisy. Had to pay an extra £10 to have a dog in the room. This was not stated prior to booking. Generally rundown hotel needing tlc and room could be more thoroughly cleaned
- Sharon (1/5): Horrible - The young chap that was looking after us. The cleanlines of the room and it was minging.
- Richard (6/5): No frills, comfortable, but seen better days. - I was the only guest midweek in a dull January. The welcome was warm, and the room comfortable. Sadly there was no breakfast available but the garden centre next door was recommended by the host and turned out to be a good option. The shared shower didn't drain properly, meaning that the residue of previous users remained on the floor of the shower tray.
- Alan (7/5): -
- Susan (7/5): A pleasant overnight stay. - Good location for visiting our friends close by. Had Sunday carvery, it was very good.
The room was spacious with a large bathroom. For an old building it was pleasant and well presented. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it was let down by stains found on the bedding, and black mould in some areas of the bathroom, a large crack in the sink. Otherwise overall it was clean and tidy.
- Angela (8/5): Pleasant staff. Room was cosy beds comfortable. - No breakfast No complaints it's cheap and cheerful what I expected.
- Ewan (8/5): -
- Suresh (6/5): -
- jhuma (1/5): It was for a day and half - We couldn’t get in as there wasn’t no one. We had to call somebody to come and open for us, there wasn’t any key, key was inside. They are not organised
- Jones (8/5): - It was clean and quiet

- Arvs31260 (1/5): Back to the dark ages! Stay somewhere else! - Not too far off the A55. I have absolutely no idea how this hotel can be rated as 4 star!! From my many years of not only commercial travelling, but holiday touring around the UK and Europe I have stayed in more comfortable and reasonably priced 2 and 3 star hotels.
My room (no 5) was sited directly adjacent to a constant loud humming sound, which became apparent when I got into bed. The resulting night sleep totally negated my plan of saving the 4.5 hour drive from Lincolnshire to catch the morning ferry to Dublin.
The barman was the receptionist and gave some pretty unprofessional instructions to me with regard to keys and the morning. I wasn't even asked if I would like breakfast
The booking.com site is unclear with regard to bathroom facilities, which for this room was not en-suite (not unreasonable to expect from a 4 star hotel. There was a hand-basin in the corner and I had to run the hot tap for 9 minutes before it ran warm and another minute before hot enough to wash and shave. The bath and shower room are not immediately adjacent to the bedroom I was in, but decided that as they were both filthy, that I would wait until later in the day to have a body wash. Certainly not warm and welcoming bath/shower rooms. The towels on the bed were of poor quality and mis-matched.
A totally awful stay, poor and very broken sleep due to the noise. Glad I took my own pillow as the ones on the bed were like bricks!
I booked for convenience and the 4 star rating. Big mistake not reading the reviews!!
Respectfully suggest that the owner goes to stay in other hotels and gathers some enlightening ideas for 4 star hospitality. Then demolish the place and rebuild with something befitting 4 star! If the rating is 4 star and self awarded, I think you'll find you're WRONG!
- Lewis (4/5): Basic, could be cleaner, but cheap stay with our dog. - Very basic but suited our needs as a last minute cheap stay with the dog. They also let us check out an hour later at no cost. It wasn’t the cleanest, mould in various areas, not 100% sure the bedding was clean, shower in the room didn’t have hot water.
- Ken (7/5): Generally an enjoyable stay and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere downstairs - Friendly atmosphere of the bar on entrance to hotel Very old building with bumpy floors and shared bathrooms.
- Catherine (3/5): Cold and uncomfortable. - The room was clean and large with a large bathroom. The room was cold, the bedding wasn’t warm enough (I had to put clothes over my pyjamas), the morning staff seemed surprised we wanted breakfast, very long wait for a sub standard over priced breakfast.
- Julie (7/5): Cheerful staff, basic accommodation - Staff brilliant and food good No ensuite, very small room, no breakfast
- Lee (7/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Nigel (4/5): Shared bathroom was very tired - No breakfast available even though it was listed on the bookings . Com website
- Angelika (3/5): Disappointing - location and staff dirty carpets, shared bathroom which was not well described on booking and looked worn out,, no toiletries
- Beth (7/5): -
- Leslie (9/5): Like staying at a friends house . - The property was ideal location 10 min from where we need. The food was fantastic and value for money. The bed I want to take home it was so comfortable. The bed lol and food👍
- Richard (4/5): Very poor. - Leaving No towels,
out of date biscuits,
no TV picture although due to wind.
Loud music from garage behind the room.
Broken shower riser
Dirty shower sealant
Broken toilet seat
Very poor quality coffee 😞
No spoons
Bath was dirty
On booking.com it states dogs go free but a fee is charged. (Admittedly only £10)
The room was not serviced in three days.
- Marshall (7/5): -
- Charles (8/5): -
- JACKIE (3/5): Not what we expected. - Beautiful location. When we checked in, the person on the reception desk was still in his pajamas. There was a wedding on the Friday night, and we didn’t sleep very well. We decided to leave the following morning and didn’t bother to stay for the second night.
- paul (1/5): Worst b&b I've ever stayed at - Nothing to like Room was freezing, had to share the bathroom, Room not clean, very dated decoration, very noisy at night, Room not cleaned, bedding old and tired, I was told that no breakfast was available even though it was supposed to be a b&b.
- Chacko (2/5): -
- Matthew (3/5): - Evening meal not being available as only Thursday thru Saturday. A
- Elizabeth (7/5): -
- Jordan (1/5): -
- Kaho (5/5): Location is good for a quiet stay. - The location was good, situated in a quiet neighbourhood. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although the accommodation is located above a pub, the noise was minimal, allowing for a restful night’s sleep. While the accommodation was adequate, the overall facilities would benefit from some upgrading, as many elements felt rather dated. The bed, for instance, creaked with every movement, often disturbing our sleep. Although there was a tap with hand soap in the room, no hand soap was provided in the bathrooms. One of the bathrooms featured a bathtub, though it was not in a condition suitable for use. Additionally, several doors produced noticeable creaking noises, which detracted from the comfort of the stay.
- Susan (3/5): - Beer cider. Having get up in the middle of the night to use shared bathroom. we thought was an onsuite in our room .should of stated on booking.com was shared bathroom and didn't.. bed so uncomfortable creeked springs you feel ..description make the Hollands arms out to be a 4star .poor all round

- Mohd (9/5): -
- Mihaela Maria (10/5): -
- Anne (3/5): Disappointing. - Tea and coffee in the room, Tv Wasn’t made aware that it was a shared bathroom in the details when booked, very old and dated. Not sure how it can be 4 star.
- N (9/5): -
- Kate (8/5): I would definitely stay here again - Ideally situated for the ferry. Comfortable room. A bit dated as noted by other reviews, but clean and well presented. Nice bottle of water and tea and coffee. En suite bathroom was big and clean. Beds were really comfortable. Easy check in with key safe. All really good and clear and straightforward. Bit of noise through the walls as guest left early (probably for early ferry) but not too bad at all.
- Misty (8/5): -
- Jason (6/5): Pleasant, great location and a slice of Anglesey - Location, pub facilities. Bathroom was used by other guests when it should have been just for our room, room slightly outdated but not a massive issue.
- Samuel (7/5): -
- Handunneththi Rajeewa Bimendra (10/5): Economical place, worth for value. Friendly staff. - Friendly staff, specially the bartender, who is from the local area. Advised us where to go in North Wales. Cool guy! Also the lady does cleaning was very kind. Well it’s a very economical place. You cannot expect 100% there, but it’s okay. I would say worth for what you spend. Nothing to highlight other than WiFi was not that great.
- Stuart (6/5): I was happy with my stay, but I am not hard to please nor super critical. - This hotel is great to tap into the locals if you take the time to do so. The locals commented that the visitors don’t mix, but I recommend that they take the time to engage. I did enjoy my stay though. The rooms and general environs could do with an update. There is potential there, but the answer is probably capital expenditure. It’s one of the first places that visitors come to from the ferry and could be exploited in that regard.
- Nicky (7/5): Clean, comfortable and value for money. - Spacious room in a good location. After reading the awful review’s I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, yes there is a bit of mould around the bath however we just wanted somewhere which meant we could enjoy 2 full days away so for 1 night just for somewhere to sleep it was fine and the beds were comfortable.
Excellent breakfast at the garden centre next door. It did say on the booking that breakfast was available however we didn’t mention this on arrival. When we went downstairs in the morning there was no one there to speak to or to hand over the keys to on check out. We were leaving at the same time as another family who had left their room key behind the bar so we did the same.
- Mark (3/5): A disappointing experience and I don't think this hotel will be staying open much longer. - The beds were comfortable and they served a nice pint of Guinness The staff seemed rather half-hearted. The bathroom was shabby and the shower pressure was poor. There were also fairy lights across one of the windows which flashed all night.
We were tired and wanted an early night, but the music in the bar was loud and booming despite there only being about 5 people in the bar. Fortunately we had brought earplugs so managed to get some sleep despite the noise.
- Adrian (5/5): It was ok but certainly would not stay there again. - No breakfast provided. The hotel was close to the area we wanted to explore. The guy who gave us the room key was lovely and helpful. The kettle was filthy on the outside and full of lime scale. The room smelt like a damp dog. The grouting and silicone in the bathroom was black with mould. The bathroom sink was cracked which was stained black. The outside of the hotel looked like it was closed down, surrounded with weeds and not welcoming. The car garage next door blasted loud music till late evening and liked to rev the car engines all the time, meaning you couldn't relax in a quiet environment. We stayed in room 2.
- Lisa (8/5): Little hidden gem! - Took son to bangor uni open day and needed somewhere to stay for the night.
This place was great. Didn't catch the lads name who runs the bar but he's fab! Literally does everything and nothing is too much trouble. Lovely, friendly locals in the pub to. All made to feel welcome.
Room was massive, bathroom was huge. Beds really comfy. Meals available downstairs in the bar. Nice big carpark. Great value for money. Would stay again. Nothing
- Anthony (5/5): - Not much A lot
- Elwood Dowd (8/5): - It's an authentic old-fashioned Welsh Pub with rooms upstairs. I always love places like this where you go to the bar and the bartender checks you into your room. I also like the fact that I was able to have a few pints and just walk upstairs to my room rather than worry about driving drunk. I wish the kitchen would have been open a little bit later than 8:00 p.m. but I know how hard it is to find help these days.
- Erika (6/5): -
- Carol Lynn (6/5): Classic old hotel with bar and good food. - Very friendly staff, very competent. Bartender/host was excellent. I was happily surprised to find we were right next to the bike path! You should advertise that. :-) I was in room 6 and chose to sleep in the lumpy bed that tilted, because the nice bed had the headboard up against where the toilet flushes. You could hear water running through the walls. Also the chef was playing the TV and radio really really loud underneath me, but he turned it down when he was asked. It was so loud though.
- Sally (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff and excellent Guinness 👌
- Herne (10/5): Great hotel, amazing staff - Amazing staff, very welcoming. Lovely, comfortable room, great food and a huge breakfast.
- Niki (8/5): Homely place at a good price and great access to the island. - Stayed here before and my little son asked to come back here for his 5th birthday. We had Room 1, with a private bathroom. There is lots of soace and the room has character. It is not 'perfect' but has a homely feel. Two very comfy double beds and a generous sized bathroom witj bath and shower. Plenty of parking and great access to so much on the island. At the price, it is a greag deal compared to many other places. Not much. Could do without the twinkly lights outside the room, gives it a rave feeling some times. A few more curtain hooks as the sag and light gets in. This is so picky though.
- Gary (2/5): No hot water to shower, dirty bathroom, convenient location, it’s if mould. Renovation needed - Location Shared bathroom. Wasn’t clean. No chrome left on the taps. Lots of Black mould in the shower area. Bathroom needs renovation and a better standard of cleaning. There was no hot water in the morning to shower.
Mould on the blind in the bedroom. None of this I felt was acceptable.
Stains on the bed sheets.
- mary (7/5): -
- Peter (5/5): Fawlty Towers experience - It did the job. The music quieted down after 10-ish and the rooms were clean. The hotel's pretty run down. It's located by a road busy with lorries, cars and farm traffic. The room was above the bar. Everything is old. Hot water comes on after like 10 minutes.
The guy who checked us in had a weird lecture about if the children leave playdoh in the carpet, we need to pay for thr damage. Like, ok dude.
- David (4/5): -
- Anthony (4/5): Served it's purpose but could have been a lot better. - Old building with character.
Comfy family room.
Plenty of easy parking Could be cleaner especially in ghe bathrooms.
Had to pay cash for the room because the member of staff couldn't work out how to do a manual card read.
Only stayed for 2 nights but there was a regular smell of cannabis in the the family room.
- Beefy 1976 (10/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): Lovely welcoming hosts and a very comfortable stay. - The property had charm and felt comfortable The bathroom needed a small amount of maintenance but nothing that would put me off staying again
- Lyman (7/5): - They accommodated us arriving after midnight from the Ferry. There was no breakfast and no staff present in the morning to even ask about breakfast.
- Lilla (8/5): -
- Kim (3/5): I wouldn't stay here again - The free pool table
The bar maid. The bathroom was outside the room which we had no idea about when booking, if we knew we wouldnt have booked it. They weren't supposed to but other guests used it. The shower was in poor condition it was hanging off the wall and poorly installed. There were gaps between the wall and ceiling, very shoddy looking.
Our room smelled as did the ancient wardrobe.
There was a sink in it however the hot tap barely worked and the cold didn't at all. The units and wardrobe were very tired and old looking. Bed was very noisy and springy.
It was advertised with a different picture of the building. The view from our room was just scaffolding. Listed online as having pools and sauna. Complete lie.
I really wish I'd taken photos I'm sorry that I didn't.
- Trayanbet (9/5): - Location, value for money, staff
- Carl (5/5): - Quite friendly pub, rooms was ok. That the toilet and shower was separate
- mark (10/5): Makes me want to go back again - Dont expect the ritz but at the price of this place its well worth a visit. The staff are amazing and room are big and clean Nothing
- Mr (10/5): So grateful to have found this & stayed - The staff were amazing & really welcoming & helpful
- Lisa (4/5): Very Cheap - Friendly Staff - Shared Toilet Facility - A very friendly welcome, parking outside. The room has no toilet in it, that was no clear when booking. There was only one bathroom with a power shower the other one had no hot water but has a shower. It could have been cleaner.
- Tudor (9/5): Can recommend to anyone who wants value for money. - Location was excellent. Staff very friendly. Rooms very clean and were of a good size.
Good facilities. We did not have the breakfast option, but it smelled wonderful. Nothing negative to say, was all good..

- Rachel (1/5): I wouldn’t visit this hotel again. I’d really wouldn’t consider staying here if you’re looking to. The hotel and room ma - The hotel was in a nice, quiet location. The hotel outside seemed to be being renovated as scaffolding was up but the grounds were untidy and not looked after properly. The room did not have a bathroom and the bathroom was shared. This made me feel very uncomfortable at night time as I was alone. The bathroom was dirty, the sink was blocked with dirty water and sick. The toilet was covered in urine and was unusable. The hotel room I was in had 3 beds and all were smelly and felt dirty. I had to use my clothes to lie on. Also, the WiFi wouldn’t connect in my room and I had no signal.
- Rhodri (8/5): Very nice, great price - Location was great
Staff friendly
Room was a good size with comfy beds
Bathroom was huge The shower wasn’t very powerful and difficult to get the temperature right
- yvonne (1/5): Don't stay there... - Nothing. Dirty toilet.....dirty shower tray......synthetic fluffy cloths ..not towels.....
Room looked shabby and bare.
The bedroom door didn't shut properly.
I was so tired I would have slept anywhere that night.....this was a new low for me at £50 for one person...no ensuite....
...no toilet paper in the bathroom....
the window was propped open 2 "...and it was very warm in there....
- Ashley Ramsay (2/5): Do not stay here - When we arrived we were told there was no food of any kind available for the whole of our planned stay! The room was noisy. No food.
- Myleen (10/5): The place is decent, good food and near to tourist spot. - The place has a free parking a restaurant and pub. The room is so spacious and the staff are all polite and friendlt and go beyond with expectations. The breakfast was a big portion and were treated very nicely. We are happy and lovely to book again in the future. The hotel is already outdated but they decorate that you could feel like home. The downside of our stay we dont have a toilet. Its a shares or communal toilet. It is acceptable to us but please make it sure that toilet in the communal areas shared in the hotel should be not taken for granted. This toilet and bath needs a contant look how it should like. The showering cubicle should be spray by a viakal to look sparkly. As well using a bleach to around the shower must be practice the molds is growing and not both hygenic to customer. We hope that the owner will take this seriously to check as soon upon this review. The pub toilet is smell good and fresh. We’re looking forward to clean it rigidly everyday especially the communal toilet near room 6.
- Dave (10/5): - The staff were amazing, bar staff, cleaning and room staff, and the kitchen staff were all exceptional. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was spot on, as it's only 20 mins to get to Holyhead or Bangor. We visited so many beautiful places which were recommended to us by the staff.
I would definitely book here again.
We took our dog Buddy, who was given fresh bowls of water every time we used the bar
- Anette (3/5): - Es gab zwei Betten Das Zimmer und vor allem das Bad waren schmutzig
- Dir K (6/5): -
- Lee (7/5): -
- Griffith (3/5): -
- Jacek (10/5): Very friendly staff and very helpful - Very clean and nice room, awesome staff, we want to back there definitely. Thank you for your hospitality Nothing comes to my mind - completely nothing
- MOHAMED ADAM (10/5): - It is okay.
- Mark (10/5): Couldn’t fault the accommodation and staff, excellent value for money would recommend a stay. - The rooms are clean and spacious presented well the staff are friendly good outside seating areas nothing too much trouble. Really enjoyable stays. Water pressure a bit low at times but get that most places when it’s busy.
- McFarlane (4/5): Won’t be returning. Not a comfortable stay. - Staff were great. Evening meal food was good. Bed was uncomfortable, no wardrobe in the room, in dire need of updating. Tv didn’t work or WiFi in the room.
- andrea (5/5): A cheap and cheerful overnight stay. Friendly staff in a nice bar. - The food was basic but it was cooked nicely, and fresh. The bar area was clean and the tables were nicely set out for diners. Unfortunately our room was significantly below the standard that we expected. The plug in the shower was filthy and blocked with hair. The decor wanted refreshing.
There was no bathroom toiletries, no glass, no hairdryer. The bedroom furniture is old and very basic but for a one night stay on route to/ from the ferry is ok.
- Kefu (7/5): -
- Simon (8/5): -
- Zenan (3/5): No, only if desperate. - The window openned. The place had crooked floors and the feel of a B rated Kubrik movie, shinny!
Had biscuits + tea and coffee with a kettle in the room. Says includes breakfast, but the staff said they do not do breakfast.
False advertising, scammy, and way over priced for that room and no breakfast.
(*Dude in another room playing loud dance music most of the evening.)
The hotel/inn is a good setting for a thriller/horror movie.
A once was kinda place.
- Christopher (8/5): Good value for money - Very nice room Had to pay for the room again. They said Booking.com hadn't booked it . Showed the booking but still had to pay. Advised to cancel any Booking.com would refund. Still nothing.
