• Stefan (7/5): Hübsches Einod mitten im George town - Sehr zentral zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten. Sehr schöne Einrichtung. Das Hotel was ein sehr altes Gebäude, das komplett saniert wurde Nebenan ist ein Moschee. Der Lautsprecher ist genau in der gleiche Höhe unseres Zimmer, daher sehr laut.

• Dirk (3/5): Ich würde dort kein zweites Mal übernachten. - Nur die Lage Klimaanlage, selbst wenn unsere aus war, hörte man das Gerät des Nebenraumes. Schlecht schließende Fenster, dadurch auch laut. Zimmer war über der Küche eines „Restaurants“. Zustand des Hauses - z. T. Renovierungsbedürftig, sonst sehr einfach. Wie diese Unterkunft mit 4 Sternen und einer 8,0 bewertet bei booking.com erscheint, kann ich mir nicht erklären. Vielleicht gibt es bessere Zimmer und Lagen innerhalb der beiden Gebäude.
• George (9/5): Fabulous! - Location! Staff! Lovely place. The part above the Japanese restaurant was noisy and as for the rest, if you didn't want Asian street life, why come to Penang? The mosque is very loud but you get used to it and the Hindu temple across the way is loud too. THIS IS FINE but if you are finicky this may matter. The faux Peranakan Chinese tourists getting photographed in front of the hotel is fun.

• Carol (9/5): Fantastic colonial style hotel in heritage area - Very central to the heritage area and lots of options to visit and to eat out. Hotel itself is very colonial style with lots of seating areas and comfy places. Not a big hotel but love the atmosphere. Staff were very helpful. Room was big, plenty of hot water, and housekeeping daily so room was always clean and tidy. Safe and hairdryer are available in room plus kettle and coffee. Our only complaint which is outwith the hotels control was the daily call to prayer which can happen very early in the morning and later on in the evening.

La chambre était très spécieuse, Tout était propre , joliment décoré et le personnel est très sympathique. Literie très confortable, jolie déco et idéalement situé. Très bon rapport qualité prix 🥇. Lo stile della struttura meraviglioso! L’unica pecca un po’ vicino alla moschea ma comunque caratteristico. A noi non ha dato nessun fastidio.

• Lara (9/5): Great stay - It's a lovely boutique hotel, with beautiful decoration and character, we absolutely loved the architecture and the renovated traditional house. We booked the family room, which has a small separate room, and it was very spacious. Very clean too. They don't provide breakfast but there's tea and coffee and a water fountain. The location is great too, on a quite side street but in the middle of the old town, so super close to all the action. The only negative is that there is a mosque just around the corner and the several daily calls to prayer were extremely loud, literally like having the loud speaker next door. The first one was around 6:15am and it woke everyone up, and it would last up to 15 min every morning. If you are an early riser or can go back to sleep easily, I guess it's not a big issue, but my kids were up and couldn't go back to sleep after that. To be fair, we saw several mosques in the old town, within a relatively small radius, so it might be the case that wherever you are in the old town, you can hear one mosque or another. Not sure. Apart from that, everything else was great.

There was fresh water that you could refill anytime, also the staff was very friendly and kind! :) We already read the reviews beforehand, so we knew that it could be quite loud at night, that was true. We had our room directly next to the street so you could really hear everything going out outside. In our first night there was a strange ticking noise all the time but it was gone the second night. :)

I stayed in the room with balcony, right beside it is an old cemetery, was a bit shocked, if I knew I wouldn’t have booked it. Nothing scary, its just I prefer not to sleep beside graveyard.
• Susanna Maria (5/5): Würde mir nicht mehr in einem Hotel in der Altstadt ein Zimmer nehmen. War einfach zu laut. - Nähe Altstadt. Inneneinrichtung. Ich hatte wohl das Pech, als Alleinreisende das ungemütliche Zimmer zu erwischen. Kein Fenster bzw. 1 kleines mit Blick auf 2 Kühlgeräte, welche ununterbrochen liefen. Darunter ein Restaurant, mit Küche im offenen Verbindungstrakt. Gerüche und Küchengeräusche bis spät in die Nacht. Das Zimmer war sehr klein, hatte keinen Safe, keinen Kühlschrank, dafür aber einen in meinen Augen absolut unnötigen Fernseher. Schade, denn das Interieur des Hotels ist ansprechend.

I deeply respect the local customs, but since the mosque was right next to the hotel, the 6 a.m. call to prayer was very loud and made it a bit difficult to sleep through the early mornings.

However, this hotel did have an elevator which required my elderly grandparents to climb the stairs slowly. Also this property is located right beside a mosque, so be prepared to wake up at 5am and 6am at the prayer call timings. The property could have better sound proofing at least.

This historic building with its charming boho style lobby was a pleasure to casually sit in and chat. The knowledgeable staff was wonderful, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The large and absolutely quiet room was lovely, impeccably clean and soooo comfortable. I highly recommend -

The pictures were nothing like the room/building we got and we would not have stayed there if we knew this. • Zan (3/5): Did not live up to our previous experience in spices Hotel, and not worth the money paid. - The location. We booked 2 Deluxe Rooms expecting them to be somewhat similar. However, one was much smaller in size with hardly any room to move around. The towels provided were ‘new’ and apparently washed prior to them given to us. However, we begged to differ as they had so much excess fibres that shed all over your body and into your nostrils when used.
• Milan (3/5): The reality is worse than the presentation on Booking.com - I believe that the hotel has more comfortable rooms and can offer a more pleasant experience than we had. But I would still like to meet other travelers and exchange impressions, because some of the guest comments confuse me. If there is one thing worth praising, it is the location, but given the overall impression, I would without hesitation prefer to stay a kilometer further from the tourist center, but more comfortably. The hotel is very close to the mosque and is not soundproofed at all, so you feel like the loudspeaker is blaring right next to your ear. The room is very dark, poorly ventilated, there is mold on the walls, the air conditioning is very weak, so it was impossible to sleep at night, not to mention the uncomfortable bed. The furniture is old, a shelf in the wardrobe came loose and fell on my leg. The entrance to the bathroom has a high threshold, so the guest has to be very careful not to sprain his ankle. I imagine something different under the term Deluxe Room. The hotel promises a non-stop reception, but at 7 a.m. you will find there just a completely incompetent man who does not speak English and is not even able to call a taxi.

• Matina (7/5): Good stay but not super impressed - Great location in the old part of the town, walking distance to almost every landmark and restaurant/bar in the center. Both A/C and fan are available in the room which is perfect, you can use the A/C during the day and fan during the nice so you won’t wake up sick! We had a room on the ground floor with a small terrace but the door was stuck and impossible to open. We managed to do that 2 people each time, but when I first asked the staff they said that it doesn’t work and that they’ll fix it next month. Also, it’d be nice if there was a mini fridge in the rooms.

• Shirley (8/5): Good location really close to old George Town. - Really central The hotel has an Annexe. Originally we were given two rooms one in the main building the other in the annexe. To be in the same part of the hotel one of us did have to take a slightly smaller room than booked. But it was quickly sorted.

• Greta (3/5): Not at all as per the picture, mosque noise all the night and dirty rooms - Just the outside aesthetic of the building, all the rest was negative. Plus, the price was too high for the offer and the accommodation. The property it was not like the Booking images at all, it was dirty, old and not curated. The room was full of mosquitos and worst of all, we were not able to sleep as the mosque is literally at the side of the hotel and the prayer with the microphone played at least three times during the night. We were not informed from the stuff about this and we had to leave the room one night earlier because of all the issues. We are still waiting for our refund.
