- Carol (9/5): Lovely Machiya townhouse in a perfect location. Very quiet and spotlessly clean - Authentic Machiya townhouse in a great location Nothing
- Michael (8/5): Quiet machiya house in central Gion location - We enjoyed our stay at this machiya house in the heart of Kyoto's Gion district. An easy walk to Chion-in Temple and other attractions, and also to the subway station. In a quiet street so no issues with noise, despite being around the corner from the busy main street in Gion. It's rather dark inside - you need the lights on all the time. The downstairs area is Western style so you don't get the full "Japanese Machiya" experience.
- Violet (10/5): Nice and comfy - Perfect location near transport Main Street and attractions but still quiet. Be aware of the low doorways if you are tall. Other than this nothing wrong with the place.
- lisa (10/5): House was fantastic, such a great experience. Great location and clean and tidy - Loved staying in a house, the facilities were fantastic. Clean and today. Great location. Nothing
- Angelle (9/5): - The location and the property made us experience the traditional machiya.

- Belynda (9/5): Comfortable home close to Gion. - The location was perfect! It was close to so much but quiet. It would have been nice to have more pillows.
- Marianne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sivakumar (10/5): satisfied -
- Stephanie (7/5): Pleasant - Well located Complex service to arrive and get code. Details missing such as lamps and not good enough cleaning service.
- Peter (10/5): Excellent - Excellent property in the middle of Gion. The house is nice blend of traditional and modern facility. Excellent in all areas. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Machiya group. N/A
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very helpful, the machiya house was gorgeous, in a great location, nice and cosy and quiet. 10/10, very nice stay. Not one thing. It was great!
- Jason (8/5): Cute with a catch - Unique experience in Gion with both traditional Japanese and western beds, kitchen, laundry, living room, and garden. A very cute little place. It seems that the gas meter safety valve would trip because it couldn’t handle the gas flow requirement for the in floor heating system and the on demand hot water supply simultaneously. In my opinion, losing hot water isn’t worth offering in floor heating and the in floor heating should probably be disconnected to avoid this problem for future guests.
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geraldine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tan (10/5): Exceptional - We opted for the Japanese style bed and it was one of the most comfortable experiences ever
- Pascal (8/5): Very good - The concept was implemented excellently. Didn't find the trash cans.
- Huai-en (9/5): Superb -
- Péjoine (9/5): Superb - Pretty much space.
Good equipments. The two rooms are not totally separated.
- Daryl (8/5): Very good -
- Jodie (10/5): Amazing - neat experience, fantastic location. - Awesome stay for our family - nice to have a good amount of space and room to spread out - along with a washing machine to do all our washing.
Check-in is super close to the station - you drop your suitcases there and they give you a code for the door that will work from 3pm onwards.
Room was great, beds were comfortable, bath was good - with a little window that looked out on the garden.
Location really good in a quiet street but so close to everything.
They also arranged shipping our suitcases to Tokyo - booked when we checked in a reception and on the morning we left - just left the suitcases in the entry way and they arrived at our Tokyo hotel the next day.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vittoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (9/5): Privilege to stay in such an old house that has been well renovated - Great location in Gion and near to many eating places. Cosy and historic property. Nothing to dislike
- Zahra (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Staying in a traditional house in the Gion neighborhood of Kyoto was one of my favorite experiences in Japan. I loved the architecture and will remember this experience forever.
- Nils (9/5): Superb - Amazing renovated old town house inside Gion district.
Just the mixture from old and modern was very unique.
The small garden was cute and the bathroom was amazing with wooden walls. Like every machiya town house, it was built for smaller people, so I had to be careful to not hit my head when entering to the bedroom.
- Darby (8/5): Great location, enjoyable stay! - Great location. Plenty of sleeping space for our family (2 adults, 2 children). The living space, especially the kitchen, was a bit tight, but if you aren’t planning on spending a lot of time to cook and relax inside it’s perfect. A bit dark downstairs.
- Geoffrey (9/5): Great stay with kids in the heart of Gion - Perfect location on a quiet side street in Gion. Comfortable for a family of 4 with a room with Western beds and a room with Japanese futons for the kids. Walkable to Gion-Shijo and Kawaramachi stations, konbini, Pontocho, Yasaka, and all the Higashiyama sights. We needed the clothes washer several times during our stay and it did the job. Check in was very smooth at the office near Kyoto station. These are quibbles - this is a great house and you should stay here! Visiting in May/June the sunrise is very early and the thin sliding Japanese windowshades allow it to be very bright inside. Bring an eyemask during this season. Upstairs lighting is kind of dark. People over 5'10" need to be careful with their heads as the traditional architecture has the door frames and support beams fairly low.
- Florian (8/5): Very good -
- Erard (9/5): We loved staying in this central location home. Beautiful small home with comfortable bedding and all amenities provided - Wonderful location. Nice quiet street but close to shopping and train stop. Traditional home but with western beds too. The shower area needs some help. It’s very nice but has wood walls that are starting to get moldy from use.
- Chenoa (10/5): Beautiful traditional home - What a great experience we had staying at Azuki-An. Like a place out of time, the machiya even had an incredible aromatic wood scent (Cyprus?) that filled the home. The vaulted roofs with beams carried amazing noise of the pouring rain on the night we arrived making us truly feel like we were in another world.
And wow, you could Iive in that bathtub.
It was a little hard to find but that added to the mystery, turning through alleys, down the rabbit hole, to our little Kyoto home. Wish we could have stayed longer!
