Guest Reviews
- Debra (10/5): - The home is clean and comfortable. The host was lovely. There are no amenities (no breakfast) and the walk to town is considerable (and a rather large hill!). But, it was an excellent place to lay our weary heads. Check in and checkout were simple.
- Heather (8/5): - Catherine is a lovely hostess. Torine House offered a pleasant, quiet stay. The beds were very comfortable!
- Lauren (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay here. The staff was so welcoming and so nice, we felt safe, and the place was so charming.
Would definitely stay again and recommend.
- Katie (10/5): Lovely Torine - Catherine was a lovely host. The small town of Killorglin was wonderful and a short walk from the house. The garden at Torine House was absolutely beautiful. Even though we only stayed 1 night I would definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not a B&B. More like a nice hostel w/no breaky. - This place is advertised as a B&B, but we were told *only after we arrived* that they were not serving breakfast anymore - and that they had not been for a year (after the death of one of the owners).
Catherine, the owner who met us and let us check in early was so kind and friendly, l'm reluctant to say anything negative, but unfortunately, the place was not as nice.
For the same price: 180€, we had a large modern room and a glorious breakfast at the Hotel Killarney just a few nights before. With no breakfast, and an older space with seriously tiny rooms, I can’t say Torine House was worth anything close to 180€.
Our double room consisted of two very small alcove-like connected rooms: so small that once we put our suitcases on the floor (because there was no other place to put them), there was hardly any room to walk around - the slanted ceilings were hard for us to maneuver too. (We anre of anverage height, and we each bumped our heads multiple times.) Both little alcoves had a bathroom (which I confess was a bonus), but the showers were so tiny we could hardly move in them. We both commented that they felt like tiny phone booths (remember those?). I can't imagine how a larger bodied person would do in there; would they even be able to move at all? Unlikely.
So, while Catherine was a kind host, the Torine house was a disappointment for us -had it been priced and advertised as an upscale hostel w/no breakfast, we might not have been surprised and disappointed.
- James (8/5): - Very nice garden in front and easy parking. Easy 10-minute walk downhill into town.
- James Kevin (6/5): Disappointed. - When we arrived we spoke to the proprietor. Firstly we had been advised to pay by card but was asked to pay cash and asked to go to town and get cash. We then had a conversation about our booking and was advised we had booked just a room not B&B. I said that wasn't clear but maybe I had assumed wrong. It was advertised as a B&B and there was no mention of extra for breakfast. I was assured I had booked room only but then told if I had booked breakfast it wasn't available as chef had called in sick.
There was tea/coffee making in the room but when we made a cup in the morning the milk had gone off so we left without even a drink.
- Rosemary (8/5): - A two night stay to explore the Dingle region. Very quiet, safe property. As a couple we had a family room, so there was a bit more space. Easy check-in and plenty of info about local roads and dinner options. Great location for exploring Dingle and Ring of Kerry.
- Andrea (8/5): - Quiet and clean and cozy. Only thing wrong is check in time was at 5:30. Seems a bit late
- Lisa (10/5): - Cute B&B just outside Killorglin. Great location for excursions on to the Dingle peninsula and into Killarney. Breakfast was made to order, from the basic continental to eggs and bacon. Rooms are small but well appointed. Beds are comfortable.
- Rosemary (10/5): - Lovely!
- Eric (6/5): - Killorglin is very charming! The Torine House was within walking distance to activities of the town. The property was nice and clean. Our room was accommodating, yet the bathroom was a bit stale.
- Declan (10/5): - Nice quiet spot, had everything I needed for 1 night and owners were easy and nice to speak to.
- Craig (10/5): - Great
- Charles (8/5): - I made a reservation for a five night stay expecting to do some hill climbing. However a week before my arrival I injured my leg and was using a wheelchair and a walker. I was not able to use the wheelchair inside because the halls were very narrow and the door frames were narrow and there were heat registers on the walls making the halls even narrower.
The place is listed as a “Bed & Breakfast”. There is no mention of an additional charge on the website for breakfast. A continental breakfast (dry cereal, juice, tea, coffe) was €14 per person. We passed on the breakfast and did not even ask what the charge was for the full Irish breakfast which was another option.
The website said that there were newspapers available in the lobby. None were evident during our 5 night stay.
The website says the facility is “family friendly”. The rules on the door of our room said no children under 12 allowed. So much for family friendly.
A sign in the lobby made a statement about guests feeling right at home. The rules on the door stated that no food could be consumed in the room. A strange limitation. Not like any home I have ever lived in or hotel that I have stayed in.
The hostess reassigned us to a first floor room because of my mobility limitation which was helpful.
The front yard was nicely arranged with shrubs, flowers, and pathways. The shrubs were overgrown and made the paths hard to navigate in a wheelchair. There is a very nice monkey puzzle tree in the yard.
- Maria Cecilia (10/5): - Host was responsive and helpful. We appreciated the free parking, the large room, good wifi, and convenience. Perfect location for our drive through the Ring of Kerry!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfy quiet B&B - Stayed 1 night on my Ring of Kerry road trip and it served my purposes quite well. Free parking on site, breakfast available but optional (I don't typically eat until noon so I'm just as happy not to pay for it if I won't be hungry), easy walk to the small downtown area with restaurants & shops. The room was comfy and just what I needed for a brief stay. The bathroom for my room was in the hallway just next door, though some rooms may have en suite. I did have a sink though, which was convenient. The hostess was friendly and very helpful, but stayed out of the way if not needed. Good value and comfy place to stay.
- Michael (6/5): - The property was adequate. We liked the location to get a jump ahead of the tour busses on the ring. Street signage helped find the property. Check in was easy. Property was plain and basic. Host was not unhelpful but certainly added nothing to the experience. Rooms were lined up side to side in an addition to the property.
- Jeanne (10/5): - Very lovely
- Maribeth (8/5): - Catherine is a lively host. You will feel like you are staying with family.
- Srinivasan (10/5): - The property is located in a beautiful spot. We were able to catch the sunrise one morning from our bedroom. The breakfast is cooked to order and you can have as much as you want. Lovely host who was very attentive and helpful. Would come back again for sure.
- Joanne (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay. Easy walking into town to get a bite to eat. And get around and explore. Catherine is a wonderful host. Highly recommend
- Philip (8/5): Nice and convenient. - Nice litttle bed and breakfast, rooms are nice, owner very friendly. Great location for walking to the town.
- Emma (10/5): - Room was slightly small, but beautiful area nd clean room and loved the host!
- Noelle (10/5): - We. Had a lovely twin room very clean and comfortable Catherine was very pleasant lovely stay overnight
- Shane (10/5): - Amazing stay, hosts were friendly and accommodating, breakfast was delicious and hearty
- LEI (8/5): - The lady was very kindly and welcoming, we felt like a home away from home, room wasn’t very large but it does the job
The mugs provided inside the room wasn’t clean, probably forgot to clean it from previous time
Location is convenient, only less than 10 mins walk to town center or 1 min to drive and it’s quiet as the house is not on Main Street
- Erick (10/5): Very nice experience - They have a very nice house, with the price I paid, it's worth it. Nice garden, room space were good enough. Toilet no bath tub but its clean, No stress at all. Oh the breakfast taste nice. The Host was very friendly and welcoming overall it was a relaxing stay. Way much better compared to some 3 or 4 stars hotels.
- Isabelle (8/5): Good location - Stayed here after a day trip in the Ring of Kerry. Calm B&B. Nice size of room with ensuite bathroom. Clean. Good breakfast. Easy walk into town
- Conor (10/5): - Had a lovely stay in Torine; nice, relaxed atmosphere and very welcoming and accommodating of us.
- SID (10/5): - The house is clean, Owner was very friendly, Location close to town and easy access.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - All it’s ok, clean, location, price very good the hotel
- Hansford (8/5): Great B&B if you like and are familiar with B&B’s - Friendly yet a bit of a rule master with the posted rules on doors and the exact breakfast times. We weren’t clear on if the living spaces were available to use but it didn’t appear welcoming since the doors were kept closed and we weren’t invited to use them or given any sort of tour. Catherine is very efficient and answers any specific questions and her husband is a fascinating man with much conversation and history to impart and share. The rooms have thin walls and very doors and everything may be heard between the rooms and the hall. That was unnerving but the town is amazing and very under appreciated. The local pubs are an absolute delight.
- Therese (10/5): - Very friendly hosts, lots of suggestions about what to see around the area, even had some suggested daily itineraries printed up. Breakfast was lovely.
- Sarah (10/5): - The Torine House was the perfect Irish getaway, we loved it! Having never traveled internationally we were a bit nervous about what we'd walk into but Catherine and Tony were welcoming and accommodating. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable and meet any and all needs. The most amazing thing was that Catherine helped us immensely when we were in quite a pickle, I'll always be thankful for her generosity. Lastly, the breakfasts were delicious. We always had a hot Irish breakfast ready for us that filled us for our day's adventures. I hope one day we can return and enjoy the Torine House again. Thank you Catherine and Tony!
- Nhi (10/5): - It was a very nice setting and comfy. Great place and view, enjoyed the hospitality very much.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Needs updating -
Disclaimer-This is written to inform prospective travelers only with no disrespect to the proprietors (I understand that this is someone’s livelihood).
Bed was old and slightly uncomfortable
Bathroom towels were dank & moldy smelling.
There was no flat sheet that separates the comforter from the bed linens. (More my preference)
Breakfast was served only at 8:30am with no attempt for accommodating guests’ holiday schedules. Sadly I overheard a conversation with another guest and the proprietor that the reason breakfast couldn’t be served earlier was because the proprietor had a dentist appointment at 8am the next morning. (Id figured a B&b would try to be flexible in the morning for breakfast).
Overall the room needed an update -bed & bathroom especially.
Payment was also a bit unorganized; proprietor did not know her own rate or whether or not payment was made yet.
The host couple was very kind otherwise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful visit - Wonderful breakfasts, great hosts who r helpful with sights to see and enjoy chatting with, very clean rooms. Great place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - Nice location and easy to find by following the signs that are posted. Good internet. Very clean and quiet
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice B&B right 5 minute walk from town - The owners were lovely. The room was spacious and clean and the suggestions they offered for dinner and sight seeing were wonderful
- Alexandre (10/5): Great BnB! - Great BnB! We had a lovely time! Very clean and host was very friendly and helpful! Strongly recommend.
- Rick (10/5): Wonderful B&B; Wonderful Innkeeper - Getting away from Dublin for a trip to Western Ireland, we stayed four nights at the Torine House and enjoyed it immensely. Katherine was a gracious host who not only ran the premises, but also prepared breakfast (continental or Irish Full) for each guest, would arrange tours of The Ring of Kerry, and also was kind enough to hail us a cab. The inn itself is up the hill from Central Killorglin, a small town that is not too far away from Killarney. We hadn't rented a car and were concerned about walking up and down the hill, but it turned out to be a nice walk; only about a five to ten minute walk from the bus stop (in front of the Tourist Office and the library) that had routes to Killarney and Tralee.
- K L (8/5): Convenient family room - Convenient family room, good breakfast.
- Weiliang (10/5): Good place to rest after Ring of Kerry - Located in a nice and quiet town with good restaurant options for dinner.
- mary (8/5): Wonderful hosts. Very nice accommodations - Wonderful couple who assisted us with evening and next day plans. Value exceeded price. Highly recommended
- joe & karon (10/5): Neat and tidy. Every thing you need! - Excellent stay ! Great hosts and fantastic breakfast in the Irish tradition!
- Jo (10/5): Handy to Ring of Kerry - Great place to stay for easy access to the Ring of Kerry. Very nice owner and excellent breakfast included.
- anon (8/5): Convenient and quiet location - Conveniently located close within 10 mins walk of the town centre. Quiet location. Within easy reach of tourist attractions in all of county Kerry.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing - Place needs to be updated with new beds, mattress replaced and cotton sheets. Torine House advertises itself as having "premium bedding"when it does not.
Toilets don't flush properly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): pretty good - We stayed in a triple room. The bathroom was extremely small for three. Breakfast room was almost too sunny. Everything else was wonderful. Great food, nice beds, good wifi and close to the village.
- Carmel (8/5): Great touring point - Really appreciated the travel/ sightseeing advice. Great breakfast and welcoming hosts
- liz (2/5): Horrible! - The proprietor turned us away
She still took our money
Had to pay for another room in another b&b
