There is no airport on Hayman Island. Guests arrive via Hamilton Island and then connect with a boat transfer service, to and from Hayman Island. The journey takes around 60 minutes. The transfer rate is AUD $265 return per adult, and AUD $135 return per child (ages 5–11).
Guests travelling via Hamilton Island are subject to a passenger fee of AUD$ 30.60 per adult and AUD$ 15.38 per child (up to 12 years old). This fee is set by Hamilton Island and is payable in addition to your accommodation.
Please note, it is a mandatory requirement that InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef receives flight and travel details 14 days prior to arrival. Without this information, transfers will be subject to availability and may incur additional costs. - Lloyd (9/5): We loved it. It was our honeymoon and my wife was extremely pleased. - I hadn't been to Hayman since 1989 so as you can imagine, it had changed somewhat and all for the better. I felt that the cleaning staff had had little training. We stayed in a Beachfront Pool unit and there were a number of surfaces that hadn't been cleaned and the room servicing was somewhat irregular. I would also appreciate if the hold on the $500 security deposit on my credit card be released as we checked on 3 days ago.

- Damian (10/5): Tough to leave - You work hard to reach hayman island and you are rewarded with a little slice of paradise where you can do all kinds of things or nothing at all, all whilst being surrounded by lucious wildlife and helpful staff Unfortunately we couldn't get a babysitter so had to skip one of our intended activities. The hayman transport team and the helicopter transit company didn't communicate very well

Lots of interns on hotel school placement. Beautiful pools and nice facilities. When comparing the Hayman to other resorts nearby like Bali and Fiji, Hayman falls short. The food, service, amenities are not at the standard of major 5 star resorts. It’s still beautiful and comfortable but was missing the x-factor that those international resorts have. The cost of staying is similar but experience not the same. The escapades were a let down for us.

- Rachael (4/5): Wouldn’t waste the thousands of dollars to go here. - The room was very elegant and comfortable. The views and scenery are beautiful. The service was not great. I’ve heard a lot about Hayman and was always a dream to go but never could justify the cost. So for our honeymoon we do a stay there and to say the service was nothing like we’ve heard is disappointing. BAM BAM poolside service is either understaffed or need new staff. There was literally 4 total people at the pool and trying to find someone to serve us was like finding where’s Wally. For the money you pay, probably will not go back.

Most facilities are rather rundown and, more importantly, our room including as well as the gym were dirty. The staff is friendly and making an effort but also unexperienced. All in all this hotel by far, does not correspond to a five star hotel experience.

Breakfast was great, with plenty of fresh food & choices. Poor communications about the schedules, the app to book activities didn't work. No night life to enjoy a nightcap & some good music. The only live entertainer was positioned in an atmosphere free venue & finished at 8.30!! Recorded Music in restaurants was terrible. Definitely not 5 stars!

It is all scan here scan there for spa and trips etc or here is a piece of paper to read then scan and book. Missed the personal feel.

Due to the tides all activities were scheduled for the morning with limited afternoon activities. The mini market is very basic more a clothes shop with coffee.

- Cara (8/5): Great place to visit for 4-5 days! - Great resort and service. Excellent rooms and comfy beds. The pools were great and the drinks were delicious. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great for our weeks stay but we made the most of it. Amici pizza and Pacific breakfast were 10/10. The Top to Toe package at Hayman Spa was hands down the best massage and spa treatment I’ve had. The resort needs a hot tub and a playground for kids. The food was ok. I expected great food for a luxury resort. Checkin experience wasn’t great. We arrived at Hamilton Island and had to sit in their lounge with no tv or music for 2 hours. Then when we finally got to Hayman Island, we waited 4 hours to check into our room. The bags were already taken by staff so we had no swimmers. I had to ask to fetch our bags so my daughter could swim why we waited. I felt like 6 hours was unnecessary.
- Jon (7/5): An overrated location that didn't deliver. - The chalet was very good; the resort is however looking tired and the lacks the standard of maintenance and appearance expected of a 5 star. At various times the restaurants were found to be understaffed as there long wait time. Noisy children everywhere and Bam Bam and Pacific at various times felt like food halls at a shopping mall with noise and again children running wild. If you are looking for a quiet experience you need to dine well after 9.30 pm for a measure of peace.
- Peter (5/5): Not the 5 star Hayman of Old - I am comparing our stay to the Old 5 star Hayman of over 20 years ago. We came here twice in the early 2000's....the New Hayman does not compare. No longer 5 star, it sits somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. It pretends to be all about the customer but really it's all about the money. We are a food family, generally the food was acceptable, but a few meal were extremely disappointing. Like the Red Emperor,one of the best eating fish in the World. It was so over cooked,it was like eating toast. Embarrassing for the restaurant and Hayman for that matter. That's just one example, but I don't want to write a book. I would probably never return again. Generally, there are a lot of staff that have very poor English and as a consequence they smile and say yes and you don't receive what you asked for,it was quite comical at times. But we know it's hard to get good staff after covid. I had a bit of a deep dive into cleanliness after finding a coach roach in the main sleeping area. There were certain areas that were not cleaned properly. But compared to the Sheraton in Port Douglas, Hayman was wonderfully clean. But my main gripe was the feeling of, it's all about taking as much money as they can but giving back as little as possible. Especially at checkout, I had prepaid so had more money in there than we had consumed. They made it quiet clear that the extra money would be forfeited and not returned to me. That was a joke, but felt very much what Hayman are about.

Went with my two older children for 6 nights and there was a lot to do to occupy our time across the resort. Jet ski and Helicopter was 10/10 Nowhere to hang towels! Needed new towels every day …. Food was a bit average unfortunately.

We were also very impressed with check-in staff (Bella) who made us feel welcome. Very comfortable apartment and bed was excellent. Bathroom was perfect. Food and drink was way overpriced for what it was - and we tried all the restaurants. Each had its good points but the quality was all a bit average when compared to other island resort restaurants we’ve used over the years. We don’t mind paying but the goods need to match the cost. Hayman requires some effort to improve. This was the only issue we had.

Restaurant reservations for dinner were painful. Although recommended to pre-book once there we struggled to get any reservations for suitable times. Las excursiones son geniales, ver a las ballenas y sobre todo WhiteHaven!!! Lo único que no nos gustó, es que si quieres hacer algún plan fuera de la isla o desde las islas principales, no hay muchas opciones para trasladarte y los horarios no encajan par llegar a tiempo, lo que te obliga a hacer únicamente lo que ofrece el hotel... A mi todo me encantó, pero me hubiera gustado hacer excursiones a las otras islas.

- Richard (10/5): Phenomenal! A life experience. - The beach villa was absolutely incredible - centrally located on Hayman Beach but yet quiet and very private. Being able to roll out of bed and swim in the private pool before a shower and breakfast was a brilliant indulgence.

- Viviana Andrea (2/5): - Kitchen in our room had leftovers from previous guests, balcony area was filthy with bird poop and wallaby scat all over it. Not once did this area get cleaned whilst we were there. Rollaway bed for our son was nowhere insight even though we requested it. Our neighbours decided to play their loud techno music until late every night we were there. TV in bedroom did not work for 2 days and on another day they decided to do maintenance work on water and electricity, hence, there was no running water or electricity for 4 hours during lunch which meant limited food options etc. The floor into our shower was severely slippery, our 5 year old fell twice on his way into it and I slipped on numerous occasions. Outdoor furniture on our balcony was mouldy and smelly, the furniture around pool areas was also severely stained/unclean and mouldy. The decking around the big pool was in need of repairs with loose boards and paint stripping away. We could never get into any of the restaurants when we needed, even though the resort was not at full capacity. Food was not great and the price tag ridiculous. Really disappointed with this resort, we were truly expecting the best and unfortunately the property is in decline and we left feeling like we had been swindled. The weather was great.

- Patricia (10/5): - No words can describe how much we loved our holiday at Intercontinental Hayman Island! The staff go above and beyond to make your stay that much extra, they’re all so friendly and welcoming and nothing is ever too much trouble. They have so much varieties of activity both in and out of the water and even when it’s raining they accommodate with a choice of indoor activities and movie screenings. The choice of restaurants is sufficient for the size of the resort however bookings in advance is a must! We did also find that it is a tad on the expensive side especially when you’re dining out for all your meals. (We stayed in the Pavilion and there is no option to make your own meals nor is there any food to speak off for purchase other than sandwiches, wraps etc from the gift shop) The only thing we found was there were no rubbish bins along the walk ways and at night very poorly lit. In comparison to all the positive though there really was no negative. We really were made feel special.

- Mary (8/5): Beautiful place, friendly staff, but options for activities and meals are limited. - Pleasant, cheerful, charming staff. Luxurious room. Great buffet breakfast. Hayman Island is beautiful, but isolated, being an hour’s boat ride from the world. Food choices are limited with 3 principle dining locations with limited menus. No simple, casual dining at dinner. The Grove cafe is not truly a cafe but more grab and go. Aqua was casual but closes at 4 pm. I had expected to be able to snorkel from the beach but the bay is shallow and mostly exposed at low tide, so no reef at the resort. The resort does offer ‘escapades’ to several nearby beaches where you can snorkel, but you have to pay. Also the tides determine when and how long the water sports venue was open. You can’t kayak on exposed tidal flats.

- Jonathan (8/5): - The transfer from Hamilton Island airport to the resort was flawless, including bag collection for us, greeting by the Intercontinental staff, boarding the boat - snacks, drinks etc and transfer to the resort. On arrival at the resort, staff were fantastic and delivered our bags to our room. Zero paperwork to do other than check in. It was again, flawless. The room on the beach was fantastic, only one tip - keep the aircon on otherwise the floors in the room get slippery from the humidity. Rooms clean, free Hayman bottles and bag for the resort. Loved it. Greeting note for my 40th on the bed with a nice welcome card. Gym, yoga class were great - loved the Yoga teacher. Breakfast - good selection, minus fruit flies on the vegetables and fruit for juicing. Fresh made omelette was great. Drawbacks - after speaking to ALOT of guests during our stay, the main feedback was the food was average. They were understaffed in the Pacific restaurant, tables for two are tiny and literally no room for plates. The meals are expensive $68 for a steak. And to be fair, I’ve had much better at Hurricanes in Sydney for $40. The Brussel sprouts undercooked, my prawn cocktail had the poo shooter in each, they were not fresh at all. The chips arrived on a plate. The display was average. At a 5 star resort, you expect a level of high grade food and waiter experience. It was average. Every guest we spoke to said the same thing and were disappointed. Bam bam was the only saving grace.

- Matthew (8/5): - Overall, I would highly recommend staying at the Hayman Island Intercontinental resort. The property is incredibly well maintained, and the island itself is a true paradise for those looking to get away for a tropical retreat. The only negative feedback I have about this resort comes down to the overall service provided here. While all of the staff were friendly and helpful, I found that when it came to execution, the service was lacking. There were multiple instances during my 3 day stay where our requests for were ignored or significantly delayed. As an example, it took over an hour for our drink order to be delivered even after multiple follow ups. Additionally, the food itself at the restaurants leaves a lot to be desired with the price you pay. The quality of ingredients is great, but the overall taste was very average. I would still recommend staying here as we had a great time on the island. It's hard to complain about much when you are surrounded by incredible beauty and amazing wildlife. We stayed in a private suite and one night we had close to 30 wallabies come up to our place for a late-night dinner! Very cool experience that you can't get anywhere else.
