- Getaway22793675061 (8/5): Enjoy nature and the beautiful gardens - Protecting Nature and Having Fun
1057182037
Information for your stay at Bahia Principe Bouganville
Location provides a protected bay with less exposure to rough wind and sargassum, making it for good kayaking and catamaran rides. Beautiful gardens on the resort and nearby small conservation areas help minimize the heat and provide refuge for an amazing variety of birds and other animals. Swallows during the day and bats at night reduce mosquitos which are typically more present at dusk. Location is changing due to extensive development of condos at Nueva Romana, bringing more people to the beach and loud parties particularly on the weekends at the club next door. Tip: Check out the nature walks offered free to guests by the resort and a chance to meet local eco Bahia nature experts.
Atmosphere is lively during the day with activities audible at the beach and beach front pool from 10 to 6 every day. Each eating facility plays music and sometimes you get disco music at breakfast or heavy metal at lunch. Staff don't seem to mind sound bleed between the pool music and music at the outdoor Corales lunch buffet. Tip: Get away from the noise at the pool farther away from the sea and at an adjacent outdoor lounge where you can chill out.
Rooms are numbered, starting at the ground floor at 001, the second floor at 101 and the third floor 201 (see attached photo). Room 51201 has a balcony overlooking the main pool and a good oceanview. Building 57 provides rooms overlooking the quieter pool at the back or a peaceful garden view on the opposite side, facing south. Tip: Rooms with the best oceanview are those on the top floor. Corner rooms have the biggest balconies (see photo).
Amenities include fun activities and daily entertainment that repeats every week. Every Saturday night is the outdoor Beach or White Party, with loud music that will affect any rooms closer to the beach. An activity board at the main pool (see photo) gives the most up-to-date information. The Bahia Principe app is also useful but is not kept up-to-date by the activity staff and locations may change. Nightly buffet dinners offer a wide selection of food with themes such as Mexican, Dominican or Asian although this is not advertised anywhere. Tip: Aquafitness session takes place at the pool daily at noon. You can avoid the loudest part if you eat at Corales after 12:30.
Food is tasty at all the restaurants which provide a nice alternative eating experience from the crowded buffets. Crepe suzettes at Don Pablo are a treat. You can request a menu or bring your phone to scan the menu. Generally, the house wines are mediocre - the sparkling wine is the best. Most of the coffee is decent but only instant decaf coffee (in a pouch) is available. The resort makes a plea to guests to not feed birds or cats. This is a really important way to protect wildlife and reduce fleas. Tip: Bring your own black tea if you are particular about the quality.
Overall, the resort offers good value for money. The beach is good for walking, the water is still good for swimming, and the staff works hard to provide good service.
- G9952IIkathyb (10/5): Top notch resort! - Beautiful resort. Clean rooms, worth the upgrade to adults only. Amazing food and choices. Excellent help and choices for food as im celiac. Highly recommend and cant wait to go back!
- robinp56 (8/5): Fabulous Vacation! - This resort was beautiful! Everything was clean and well kept. The room was large and had everything we needed. We love the fact that there were two pools - one with the entertainment team activities and one that was quiet. The entertainment team did a fabulous job! The water aerobics was fun and a highlight of the day. The night time activities were fun with athe Beach Party as the best one imo. There were plenty of shady spots on the beach but the water was murky and one day swimming was prohibited due to debris in the water. There are some flying insects toward the back of the beach but if you go up front there were none. The sand was not white and smooth and if you're looking for a very Caribbean type Beach with bright blue water and soft white sand this is not the resort for you.
The ala carte restaurants need to be booked in advance of arrival. Get the Bahia app and as soon as your booking is in there, 19 days before arrival and book The restaurants. This was an issue for me and I spent a lot of time in the guest services area trying to get reservations. The food in the restaurants was good not great. The steakhouse was my favorite and the Asian restaurant was so so. Only 3 are adults only though we didn't see a lot of kids at the family side restaurants. The breakfast by the pool was very good. The lunch near the beach was also good. The buffet was not great.
The service at the bars was excellent! You can also easily get a drink at the pool or the beach. The staff everywhere was friendly and helpful.
I would consider going to another Bahia resort with a better Beach.
- marybT5676MZ (10/5): Fantastic Vacation From Start to Finish! - We had an incredible stay! The entertainment was truly next‑level. Maria, Madelin, and Marielys made every activity so much fun and so welcoming. Maria from Concierge was amazing too and helped us with everything we needed from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious, the staff were all unbelievably friendly, and the main pool with the entertainment and swim‑up bar was a total blast. The beach was a little murky and the rooms could use a few small updates, plus the hot water ran out a couple times — but none of that took away from how fantastic this resort is. We absolutely loved it and highly recommend!
- vacationmedic (10/5): Amazing vacation - First time there. Upon arrival the champagne and cool face cloth is just refreshing. You feel welcomed right away. The staff are all friendly and helpful to the best they can. The resort itself self is beautiful. Small resort with beautiful landscape. Two pools, one quiet and one " party ". The party pool is nice but the water was murky. There is not enough shade around pool. So your gonna sun burn. The quiet pool is beautiful, water clear, pool bar makes the best drinks and there is a little more shade thanks to the pergola in the middle of pool. Not sure about the party pool, but the quiet pool was cleaned every night and morning.
The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The view was amazing. The only negative was that the air conditioner was not working properly. The room was hot and humid every night. Due to this, all our clothes were damp. No matter how much we asked the maid not to shut off the air conditioner, she still did. I believe however that this is management rules to be done. Power goes out every morning but the generator kicks in and all is fine. The fridge is stocked daily with beer, water, pop and liquor.
The food was delicious.. the buffet was very good , no issues. The a la carte restaurants were all amazing and delicious. They are the best we ever had at a la carte restaurant. The food at the buffet is a little repetitive but fresh and delicious.
The beach area is Just gorgeous. It's peaceful. The only big downfall is water sucks. Water extremely murky and issues with jellyfish. No swimming for sure.
The lobbies are amazing. Nightly entertainment every night. The lobby shop has all the cigar and rum you need.
The lobby that has the entertainment , has a big outdoor smoking area.
Overall, we would return no problems.
On our arrival, I realized that I lost my phone. I figured it was left on the shuttle van. I spoke with guest services and front desk. No one knew how to get a hold of driver. But they were trying there best to help. We went to eat at a la carte restaurant. We weren't there 10 minutes and someone from guest services came in to get me as they were sure they had found my phone. The driver of the shuttle van had return my phone. It was a delightful surprise. I was very surprised at how helpful and quick they had gotten my phone and found me .
- DelHarris (2/5): Book elsewhere - We watched the YouTube videos. We read the reviews. We were so excited about staying here - then we arrived.
Based on my stay at Bahia Principe Bouganville in La Romana, I most likely will not return to the Dominican Republic. I know there are many reviews out there rating this place a 5; I’m giving it a 1. We aren’t picky people but we do expect service. We went to Punta Cana back in 2021 and that wasn’t the greatest trip either but we sloughed it off to the after effect of COVID. No excuses for this last trip.
Overall, at Bahia Escape the landscape is beautiful and clean. Visually our room was wonderful. Everything after that falls short.
ROOM/SERVICE: my husband requires an ice pack at night, so I asked for a bucket of ice to be delivered every night. It didn’t happen. There are no self serve ice machines. Our room was on the 3rd floor and the resort has NO ELEVATORS which we didn’t know until we got there. (Had I known that, we would have selected someplace else.) I complained to customer service and twice they brought the ice up; the rest of the time we had to do it. The phone in our room did not have a connecting cord. It was just the phone. I went down to customer service and they fixed it. The room is a little dated. No USB outlets. The water from the faucet is not drinkable. Housekeeping leaves two bottles of water in the bathroom so you can brush your teeth. I never used the bottled water and I didn’t get sick.
BED: So many reviews mentioned that it was the best bed ever. It was the HARDEST most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. So much so that I took the cushion off the patio lounger and added it under the sheets. I actually checked to see if they put a box spring down instead of a mattress. My girlfriend ended up sleeping on her couch because of the hardness. In talking to other guests, most didn’t like the bed or the food.
Upon arrival in the afternoon, the only place serving food was a buffet at Los Corales. As I was making my plate, I watched the staff member dunking pork chops in a marinade. He kept swatting flies off the meat. We ended up just eating anything that was enclosed or in a display. We went to the bar to wait for dinner. I ordered a drink that never showed up. I had to go to the bar and get it myself. Others were being served their drinks along with a glass full of chips. Nothing for us.
Another problem we had was with the language barrier. Many of the staff do not speak English at all. This was a problem.
While it is an all-inclusive, the selection at the bar is low end. Most of the alcohol was well brand. They did have a few top shelf but not many. No flavored vodka or whiskey. We stayed on the adult side which costs more. What they consider top shelf is included on that side. But when we went to the family side, we were told they’d have to charge us for top shelf. I didn’t understand that. We had to wear a wrist band indicating which side we stay on. They could tell we were from the other side but still we were told that there would be a charge.
They advertised nightly turn down service; we never got it.
We were there for a week. Out of that week, my girlfriend had hot water only 2 days.
We enjoyed the family side better than the adult. The buffet on that side had nightly food themes. Had we not walked over there, we would have never known that. Their app focused mainly on the adult side. Speaking of their app, it’s awful. Most of the time I tried to send a message or make a reservation, it didn’t work.
3 of the 6 ala carte restaurants were fully booked during our stay. You can only make a dinner reservation 10 days before arrival and many restaurants were full.
We arrived on a Friday and by Tuesday we were looking for return flights. This resort is in the middle of nowhere. There are no other resorts in the area. We did not feel safe leaving the grounds. Nope. Not a place for us.
- 642KellyB (10/5): Heaven - We travelled to Bouganville April 1-8/26 for our 4th vacation there. We had an AirCanada vacation for the first in a long time. Terminal one in Toronto is very nice and easy to get through. We were on a Dreamliner. Impressive. Arrived at hotel. I had done check in on line so very fast. Love the new room key in your bracelet, so awesome, never wondering where your key is. Terrific upgrade. Awesome rooms in building 54, no bad rooms really. Went to lobby bar and were so impressed Isabel, Rosa, Patricia and Mayelin all gave us hugs and thanked us for returning. So wonderful. The mudslides are still just as awesome. Booked our alacartes through the app before we arrived. Maria in the Asian, Omar in the Brazilian both greeted us with hugs. Wendy in the beach restaurant, Glenys in breakfast buffet, Pedro the coffee coffee coffee guy at breakfast all make our holiday memorable. Being greeted at the breakfast buffet by Maria and Sulyeni every morning starts your day off on a pleasant note. Mariel on the front desk always had pesos for me. We had a terrific vacation and hope we can return next year. I hope new ownership doesn’t change anything.
- bethpschottland (10/5): Wonderful 5 Day Stay - A wonderful 5-day stay! We flew from JFK to Santo Domingo (SDQ), and the airport was a pleasant surprise—large, well-organized, and air-conditioned, a far cry from Punta Cana. We arranged transportation through the hotel, and our driver was waiting upon arrival. The entire process was seamless, and the drive to the resort took about 50 minutes.
Bahia Principe Bouganville is an adults-only property, just a short walk from the larger Bahia La Romana, which is more family-oriented and was very busy during our stay the week of April 6. Guests at Bouganville can access the facilities at La Romana if desired, but we appreciated returning to the more relaxed atmosphere at Bouganville.
The resort itself is peaceful and inviting, with lush, beautifully maintained grounds. The staff overall are very friendly and engaging. Dining options are plentiful, and we found the food to be excellent. I would have happily eaten at the buffet every evening, though we also enjoyed dining at the à la carte restaurants. As others have noted, early reservations can be hard to come by if you wait until arrival, but we were able to book Don Pablo and Takara—both were outstanding.
There are two pools: a quiet pool for total relaxation, and a livelier pool near the beach with music, activities, and a busy swim-up bar. We never had trouble finding lounge chairs at either the pool or the beach. The beach itself is tranquil, though the water isn’t the typical turquoise of the Atlantic. It was dark and a bit chilly—slightly disappointing, but not a deal breaker.
Our room and bathroom were spacious, if a bit dated, but very clean and comfortable. The beds are quite firm (which we liked), the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the fridge was restocked daily. It was also exceptionally quiet. One thing to note: the buildings are three stories with no elevators. We didn’t mind being on the top floor, but others did—something to be aware of when booking.
Overall, it was a fantastic vacation. The sun is quite intense, so five days felt like the perfect amount of time to relax and unwind. We would absolutely recommend Bahia Principe Bouganville.
- Trip546638 (8/5): Shuttles - Great resort and fantastic golf experience.
The only small issue is the shuttle between lobbies and golf ; could be enhance.
- zenoOttawa_ON (4/5): Honest review about BPEB - Very overpriced place, not worth it all.
Beach, dark brow water with jelly fish, no practical swimming. Swimming pool with murky water, disgusting. Food: nothing Va to die for. Restaurants: Japanese restaurant is their best they were excellent! Other restaurants are not
- Daisy046 (8/5): Great, but Question if We’d Return - My husband and I spent April 1st to the 8th, 2026 at the Bahia Luxury Escape Bouganville. We booked a pool view room and stayed in 57220.
I will first list what we loved, followed by what was okay, and finally the reason why we probably wouldn’t return.
What we LOVED:
The resort grounds are spectacular. There are the most beautiful palm trees and vegetation of all kinds.
The resort is extremely clean. The maids and cleaning crew merit a special acknowledgement from management.
The beach is wide, loungers are spread out, and there is more than enough shade.
The beach is great for walking with hard packed sand along the shore. Along your stroll you will encounter crabs, see a good variety of birds, especially close to the beach club, and you will find lots of seashells.
The lobby was very nice, had comfortable furnishings, and was open air which is so enjoyable.
Plenty of towels, hot water and complete refills of the fridge every day. Turndown service as well.
3 pools, something for everyone- quiet pool, music and games pool and jacuzzi pool. Bloody Caesar’s at all the bars.
What was just Fine:
The service was okay, not always with a smile. The breakfast crew were very attentive and had huge smiles except for some of the hostesses. The beach bar staff did their job and that’s about it. The a la carte staff were very good.
The food was fine, but nothing wowed us except for the chicken cordon bleu at the Italian restaurant and some of the deserts at the a la cartes. The lunch buffet by the pool served the exact same thing every day.
There really wasn’t much entertainment at night, which was fine with us. There was a beach party one night, but the music was horrible. It wasn’t suited for the age group that was there. Many people were disappointed. Even 50-70 year-olds want to dance, but not to the music that was played by the DJ.
The average age must have been 55+ which was fine with us but not if you are looking for a young crowd with a party vibe. We loved that it was quiet and very relaxing.
There are tons of sand wasps on the beach but they don’t bother you at all. By late afternoon, they are gone.
Why we probably wouldn’t return:
We really loved this place but missed the clear, blue ocean water of Bavaro, Negril, Maroma and Cuba. The water reminded us of lake water. It was very murky and brown. From a distance, there was a bluish hew, but it just wasn’t nice. There were also jellyfish. We saw 2 people get stung during the week. Furthermore, there is seagrass along the bottom of the water.
I would recommend this place to older couples or people who are searching for a serene, peaceful vacation at a beautiful and very clean resort. There is no party vibe, especially at night, no drunken parties, no Bluetooth speakers which is exactly what many people want.
- 104briank (10/5): Great Hotel good holiday - Ignore the bad reviews, there is nothing wrong with this Hotel. The staff are polite and always smiling. Maids visit twice a day with coffee, clean towels and a nightly turn down service. Mini bar restocked daily with Beer, Spirits and soft drinks. The Buffet restaurant food is fantastic with a wide choice and good variety. Yes you have to book the specialty restaurants and may not get your desired time, but if you're flexible you will get into all of them. We never once had to wait for drinks at any of the bars and the bar staff keep the tip jars out of sight so you don't feel obliged to tip every time you go for a drink. Pools are clean with plenty of loungers, However if you have a favorite spot you may need to get out with your towels before 8:00 to reserve it. We are not night life people and are usually in bed by 10:00 so can't comment on the nightly entertainment. However, the Bahia Grand hotel next door has both a Night Club and Casino which can be used by Bahia escape guest. This hotel is adults only with most guest being 40 plus witch suited us. Even though our stay was in spring break, we didn't have one disturbance and the sleep quality was perfect. All in all this is a very good hotel and is a credit to the management and staff of the Bahia (luxury)Escape Bouganville. We are already looking to book our holiday here for 2027.

- notallwaundersrlost (10/5): Amazing service and great stay - We stayed at this hotel for a week over March break. We had amazing service and the food was great. Pools amazing! I have nothing negative to say. I do have to mention that one of the customer service rep Indira went above and beyond. One of our group ended up with a kidney stone.. no fault of the hotel. She was amazing and helped us out with everything we needed to help out while he was in the hospital. I can't say enough about the service we received and are really grateful for her help
- DelHarris (4/5): Book your reservation someplace else - Day one and we are ready to go home. Checked in at the hotel our room is on the third floor and there are no elevators. I just ordered a drink from the bar it never showed up so I had to go get it myself. Many of the specialty dining restaurants were already booked out and we were unable to enjoy them. My recommendation is that you find another resort to go to. At 5:00 in the afternoon there was only one place to eat by the pool. We started to get our food until we noticed all the Flies around the meat that they were preparing. Find a better place to stay save your money
- wdw366 (6/5): Disappointing Stay Despite Beautiful Grounds ….. It did not live up to the over 4.0 review rating it has! - We’ve stayed at many resorts throughout the Caribbean, and unfortunately, this was one of our least favorite experiences. While the grounds were beautifully maintained and the staff was consistently polite and helpful, that’s where the positives ended.
The rooms felt outdated and didn’t match the quality of the property overall. The beds were extremely firm and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. We also experienced several maintenance issues—our toilet seat wouldn’t stay up, the exterior handle on the patio door was missing (making it very difficult to open from outside), and the room phone didn’t work. The shower only provided lukewarm water at best, never reaching a comfortable hot temperature.
We paid for an ocean-view villa, but the view was almost completely obstructed by trees, which was disappointing. While the beach itself was clean and well-kept, the water was brown and murky due to a nearby river flowing into the cove—not the clear Caribbean water we expected.
The resort gym was extremely small and difficult to use. Dining was also a challenge, as restaurant reservations before 7 PM were fully booked upon our arrival for our entire four-day stay. The food quality was average at best—around a 2 to 3 out of 5.
Overall, the resort did not live up to its TripAdvisor rating. We would not choose to stay here again if returning to the area.
- kevinmX9642DC (10/5): Christian and Francis the best - Had such a great time due to Christian and francis! 10/10 recommend they need a raise

- U3056QVemilym (4/5): Not what we expected - Unfortunately this hotel leaves much to be desired and I would not recommend to stay here.
Positives- food was good but difficult/impossible to get reservations at some of the al a cartr restaurants despite there being plenty of available tables! Best restaurant was the Italian where the waiters actually smiled! Resort next door better for beach and staff.
Negatives- couldn't use the beach. Sea was cloudy, not what you expect from Caribbean waters, the beach was shady from the trees had wasps everywhere and the water had puffa fish swimming along the shoreline! Highly dangerous, though when told staff didnt seem bothered for their guest safety, they just cover themselves by putting a purple flag up without informing you what marine to look out for.
The rooms are old/in need of updating- we had flies all over the bathroom, the toilet door didnt close, the phone needed replacing and the AC initially didnt work. Hairs found in arrival in the bed. The room was cold (actually no need for AC) as the room never got any sun. Be warned, we didnt stay in one but there is no ocean view for the ocean view rooms! The view is completely obscured by the palm trees. Save yourself the money! Tv was useless for any English channels.
Staff- Unfortunately our biggest problem was the poor attitude of the staff, particularly waiters and reception. We arrived at 9pm following a 17 hour journey to be told the 2 bed room I had asked for (we were a mother and daughter) was unavailable and we could only have a one bed room till the next day. They were not apologetic, instead tried to make it out to be my fault. They had overbooked the hotel and we weren't the only ones to experience this. When we came the next day to move rooms at 3 30pm our new room still wasn't ready! The staff eye rolled and seemed reluctant to help. They were actually rude and patronising. English is limited here despite the massive clientèle from USA and Canada. Barely any Brits here.
When taken to the other resort for our return transfer the golf buggy was going so fast around a bend that my case flew off the back and was damaged. No efforts yet made by the hotel to contact me for compensation despite giving the driver my details and pictures taken.
Entertainment staff work hard around the pool. There seemed an expectation to tip for every drink you received, this should not be necessary in a luxury resort. There is nothing to do until "entertainment" starts at 9pm.
Overall disappointing and would not return or recommend.
- dugeeefresh (10/5): Absolutely Perfect - When we first booked, it was my first time staying two weeks at an all inclusive and I thought it would be too long but I was definitely wrong. I could have stayed even longer.
The resort is perfect in size and easy to get around and very safe. We walked over to the family resort many times.
The food was incredible, not only great selection at the buffets but super delicious. We did do a couple of the al' la cartes and the food and service was amazing. The Brazilian steakhouse was very tasty with great ambience. We also ate at the Don Paublo and the service and food was top notch! We even ate at the buffet at the family side a few times, both breakfast and dinner and the selection was fantastic and the food and service were amazing.
The gym was very well equipped and we used it every morning before breakfast.
Most of our time spent was at the quiet pool on the adult side but we visited all of the other pools and enjoyed them as well. The beach is beautiful with palm trees for shade and fantastic for walks and incredible sunsets!
Our main floor room was very comfortable and big with a beautiful patio facing a quiet path and gardens which are very well kept and very pretty. The fridge is well stocked and the housekeeping is amazing!
The lobbies and bars are very welcoming and a great place to be entertained or just sit and have a drink or coffee.
All in all this is definitely a five star resort and I would definitely return. Never have I been to a resort where I have spoken to people who have stayed 6,7,8,9 times at a resort but I ran into many and most staying
2,3,4 and even 6 weeks and after my two weeks I know why. We connected with so many great people both guests and staff it made it an incredible relaxing and happy vacation and can't wait to visit again! THANK YOU!
- Vsulla (6/5): Go somewhere else. - Could be better, beach is full off bees and wasps. Ocean has seaweed growing on the floor. No sport activities besides kayaking.
- Bailee123456 (10/5): Wonderful Sister Vacation - My sister and I stayed at the Luxury Bouganville from March 7 - 21. I have stayed many times at different Luxury Bahia Principe hotels and the Bouganville will not disappoint. The management (especially Montserrat), waiters, and all staff were great and very welcoming.
The resort is impeccably clean and the food at the à la carte restaurants is delicious. The buffets were very good as well and had lots of selection.
There are two big pools. One is very quiet (that is where we spent most of our time) and the other has music and lots of activity.
The beach is lovely and there are lots of palapas. The water was warm, but a little murky the 2 days I swam in it. I’m not sure if that is a usual thing, as we spent most of our time at the quiet pool.
I would definitely recommend and return to the Luxury Bouganville.
- anthonyfE3979NF (10/5): Great time in the sun - My wife and I visited the resort March 05 - 16. We found the resort to be well maintained and a great tropical feel. There are two pools to lounge around as well as a smaller jacuzzi pool. The staff around the pool were very accommodating and made the stay enjoyable. The entertainment team worked hard, day and night, to keep you enjoying the fun in the sun, with several themed activities around the main pool and various shows at night. We booked a la carte meals for 9 of the 11 nights and thoroughly enjoyed them all, while visiting some three times. The buffets also have a wode variety of dishes to chose from. We give great thanks and shout outs to Mario and Christian, who were part of the entertainment team and always came by to spend a few moments with us and make us feel like family.
- K2902HYamyh (10/5): Awsome Ammenities and Personel - Bahia Principe is a great place for couples, is a decent atmosphere, with all the commodities to make you feel at home. Food is delicious with a variety of dishes and Restaurants. Amenities are AWSOME, Maria, Francis, Christian, Joel, Cesar, Petra, ELIZABETH, Jessenia, Omar, Tania, Jennsen they all make sure you had a great time.
Bugalu my homie
Yo Vovere a Bahia Principe!!!
- dmitrid484 (8/5): Almost perfect - The resort is situated in the well maintained tropical garden. This is the most outstanding feature of the resort. The colonial architecture of buildings naturally fits it. Rooms look dated, but kept clean. The eating areas are a bit tight. Thus it is a good idea to avoid rush times.
The beach is nice. Plenty of sunbeds and shady areas. No need to play a reservation game here. Not the same at the pools. While there is less problem finding a sunbed at the bigger pool, the sunbeds/umbrellas at the quiet pool are usually all taken by 7-7.30 Signs against reservation are ignored.
The most disappointing thing is the water at the beach. The beach is in a small bay. The water in the bay is not transparent. Zero visibility. Thus no desire to swim. The pull is preferred.
I wish our flight were to La Romana. There were no such flights from our town. The flight to Punta Cana resulted in the long transfer from/to the airport
Madeline, hereby I keeping my promise :)
- 117jayec (4/5): If you are traveling alone and want to be ignored, come here. - Do not come here as a solo female traveler - you will be ignored by all servers. At every restaurant I have had to ask several times for water and drinks while tables around me get served. Same at the bars. Tonight I was embarrassed in front of a large crowd by the hostess at the rodizio who claimed o did not have a reservation even though I did. I was late checking in because I had to wait 10 minutes while the 3 parties in line in front of me tried to get in earlier than their reservation. Funny enough - they all got seated. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told there wasn’t one. At that point the hostess started muttering to herself in Spanish as she waved me away and left me standing there as she moved on to the next people. The guest services staff are trying to make it right, but it doesn’t undo that experience. Here’s hoping the service improves for the rest of my stay.
- DonMac31 (10/5): Relaxing Christmas Getaway! - Our family (4 of us - myself, my spouse, son and his partner) had a fantastic vacation at the Bahia Luxury Bougainville, spending 9 days at the resort over Christmas 2025.
We travelled with Westjet Vacations, flying into Punta Cana from Toronto and were then fortunate to have a dedicated transfer provided by Nexus Tours, which took us directly to the resort, about a 1.5 hour journey. The airport was very busy, so patience is essential while waiting to clear Customs.
We arrived in the evening and were placed in rooms overlooking the lobby / lobby bar and entertainment stage. Unfortunately these rooms were not a quiet as we were looking for (entertainment every evening) and we asked for a room switch. The front desk staff had no options for our first night and told us to come by the next day to arrange a switch. At the arranged time, we went to frontdesk and they had a staff member take us to two rooms for us to view to see if they met our needs, which they did and we were able to adjust to the eastern-most building, furthest from the lobby and facing east, very peaceful.
The rooms were pretty standard, perhaps a bit dated, but everything worked and all was very comfortable. We tipped the housekeeper daily as well as the fridge attendant and our room was always very clean and well made-up and our fridge fully stocked with a large supply of bottled water, which was essential.
After some challenges, prior to our visit we were able to access the Bahia app and begin to make dinner reservations. There are three a la quarte restaurants on the Adult side and were had no issues accessing all three, but unfortunately if was not possible to get access to the restaurants on the Family resort. In terms of the restaurants, the main buffet was very good, having a unique theme every night. The breakfast options were excellent and pretty consistent. We did have lunch at the buffet as well, very good options as well. The Brazilian restaurant - beside main pool was fantastic - great salad bar and then an amazing parade of grilled meat - we went twice and were not disappointed. The Asian restaurant was also very good, providing dishes from Japan, China and Thailand - sushi, curries, soups, tempura - all was very high quality and well presented. The Brazilian restaurant is the Beach restaurant for lunch, offering a standard lunch buffet - with salads, pizza, pasta, burgers, and other dishes daily. This was a nice option for lunch around the pool.
In terms of bars - the Activity pool had great bartenders (Julio) and servers (Dalisa). As well the lobby bar had excellent staff - the lady servers were exceptional, I wish I had noted their names, they remembered us as we met to plan a game before dinner and they were very engaging and nice.
The resort is very beautiful and lush and has a lovely beach area, great for relaxing and a beach walk. Unfortunately with the resort's location the water in the bay is murky and depending on the time of year, may have jellyfish. We enjoy a beach walk and spent our time around the pool, so the water was not an issue for us.
The activity pool staff did a great job with many daily activities - Spanish lesson, rum tasting (was great), water aerobics, and other games.
Highs - the staff were exceptional in all areas, cleanliness - our room and bathrooms around the pool - always spotless. Christmas Eve Buffet - this was the meal for all guests and it was unbelievable - the presentation and the choices, seafood - we had never seen such an amazing meal presented.
Lows - smoking areas - unfortunately in the Dominican Republic dedicated smoking areas, away from main areas are not yet standard - we experience other guest smoking around the pool and essentially beside us in the lobby, with smoking allowed just outside.
This was our first visit to a Bahia resort and we were pleasantly surprised. This resort is a lovely jem and after many conversations with repeat guest, we understood why they returned year after year.
- IreneW177 (10/5): 2nd Time Visit - My husband and I stayed here for 10 days from Feb. 22 to Mar 4. We loved it. This is our 2nd time to this particular BP but have been to other in Punta Cana and can say we loved each and every one. Housekeeping was excellent. We enjoyed the a la cartes as well as the buffet (I'm not sure what people complain about). The staff were friendly and courteous and the landscaping crew needs to be commended for the grounds, beautiful The only draw back was the ocean, but that's not the fault of the resort. We hope to return.
- 61Pc61 (10/5): La Romana Dominic Republic - Just came back from one week cruise and one week in Dominican Republic had a fantastic time, but the best was at the Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville hotel were we stayed where the food was great and plenty to choose from in the buffet restaurant, the entertainment team are amazing they work so hard and also all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The only downside I have is the their plug system is not that great they have no USB plug so changing phone was a problem but other wise this hotel is really lovely.
- 493webm (8/5): Mixed Review - The place is beautiful. The staff are amazing. The food was delicious. The entertainment was good. Here's what didn't go well:
- The beds are extremely firm. I slept on the 3 inch foam mattress couch all week which wasn't comfortable but better than the bed. This is the main reason I wouldn't recommend this location. If it's not an issue for you, I would recommend it.
- There's not enough chairs by the pool for the number of guests they have. If you get up at 6 am and put your stuff on a chair, you can get one. We're used to this problem on cruises because we aren't early birds.
- You are supposed to be able to make dinner reservations 10 days ahead of time. There was a problem with how my name was entered for the reservation. It took several days for them to tell me how to get around this. Then, I still couldn't use the app. They said they would make reservations for me. They didn't. They fixed the problem the day before we arrived and there was no availability at several of the restaurants. No one mentionned that we could use room service to try the other restaurants. A guest told me the day before we left. The staff at the hotel were indifferent to the fact I was unable to make reservations. You'll see lots of messages on the resort facebook pages about this. Most guests didn't seem to have a problem making reservations but I didn't appreciate how this was handled because we chose this location because of all the specialty restaurants.
- I was unable to go into the ocean because of the jelly fish. Other guests said they saw them. I was stung twice before so I couldn't get past the chance that it would happen again. Some people did go in the water without incident. Most people chose to go on an excursion to a nice beach.
- My husband would say that the coffee and water service could be improved. He spent a lot of energy flagging the servers down at the buffet.
- Hunt (5/5): - Clean but no hot water
- 720lisbeta (10/5): Fun time - The entertainment crew was amazing!! All the employees work so hard to make sure you are happy and comfortable. Love the fact that they had traditional food a long said gourmet food.
- N4976IVlisas (10/5): Exciting vacation! - Amazing place. Very friendly, so much to do. Food was plentiful and so much variety!
Would definitely recommend to friends and family!
- 739larryh (8/5): Okay resort read the review - It is a nice place, clean everything within walking distance. Food was just okay. Some rice uncooked almost broke teeth. Most meat was overcooked and hard. Make sure to set your alarm to get a shade spot by the pool. If you enjoy to relax in your room, barely 5 TV channels in English. If you stay up late than a room like 52014 or near that you'll enjoy because they have music until 10:30 pm. If your not a night owl than no rest.
- sandi (7/5): - Clean pools, fantastic service, live music, housekeeping superb and the variety of a la carte restaurants. Loved adult only property and the quiet pool and so many bars ( but drinks watered down).Great sunsets on brach area which is very well managed and super clean. They had many fun events like white party on beach live singing , craft times. There is NO beach water to swim in it is a manmade bay -truth! Everyday they have flags NOT to swim claiming jellyfish but this is a permanate sign The beach is brown sand and the water is brown you cannot see your hand 1 inch below surface. It is NOT because of rain water or they say is water from the local river. The view from your beach chairs is of industry and tankers on horizon so your not even looking at the open ocean. There is a small walk along beach but it is all in the properties sprawling bay and access to see ocean is by walking out gates and walking where the golfers golf aling the water. If your just into swimming in pool then this is your place but if you are looking for white sand and turquoise waters Dominican Republic is known for go to other Punta Cana resorts.
- Disappointedcoach (6/5): Really Like this Place, but room to improve - Resort is great, staff is very friendly and helpful. Pool is nice. All things considered very acceptable, but here are areas for improvement.
Cons:
Not being able to reserve ala carte restaurants for even up to weeks in advance or while there. Even though many empty seats in the restaurant.
Buffet would run out of items that would not be replenished for long periods of time.
Drinks are not alcoholic or if there is it's so little, why bother.
Ants and bugs on the beach, but not sure how you'd control that
- E1262RPjuliel (8/5): Wonderful Experience - The overall experience was wonderful, Maria and the entire entertainment staff at the pool were truly amazing and Petra cleaned our room to perfection it was so clean and fully stocked everyday. We will definitely be back, great experience!
- Angela (5/5): -
- Runningmum49 (10/5): Fantastic holiday - Please take a balanced view when reading the reviews on here! We have just spent 14 days at the resort and had the best time ever!
Room - housekeeping are fantastic!
Jazmin restaurant- really enjoyed the variety of food at the buffet
À la carte restaurants -enjoyed each experience and we were always able to book
Activities - do as much or as little as you want. No pressure from a very energetic animation team
Gym- fantastic facilities and air conditioned!
Tip - take advantage of checking in on the app 10 days before arrival you can then book the à la carte restaurants
- garylW3755NN (2/5): WORST FOOD AND DRINKS EVER GO ELSEWHERE - Let me say this: this was the worst vacation ever in the DR. The food and drinks were beyond disgusting. The picture of the beach water at the resort is blue, and the real color is dark brown with stinging jellyfish, making it unswimable i thought it was because of the weather, and they told me it's always dark brown would never have booked the resort if the water was always brown. The entertainment was awful, too. The room and pool were nice, but that is it. If I had a free trip there again i would not go. BOOK ELSEWHERE don not get scammed
- B3037JQandrewc (10/5): Faaaaab - Let's firstly address the elephant in the room, The Sea, yes its not crystal clear and I saw a jelly fish on the shore, people apparently got stung i never and I went in the sea a lot.
The beach is lovely however and the sun sets are amazing.
The hotel is fab, food everywhere we ate was excellent, branded drinks 🍸, really attentive staff always friendly and work so hard.
Pool side entertainment is awesome, the team are sooo good .
Big comfy beds in room, always hot water, kept v clean all fortnight.
I really recommend this hotel it's faaaaab.
- luckynurse (8/5): Nice get away - We stayed February 21-28, 2026. Second visit for us to this resort. We enjoy the fact that it is somewhat small. Easily walkable. Dominican people are friendly. Our interactions with staff were always positive. We had a king pool side that looked out onto the jacuzzi pool deck/bar area. Pools were always clean, fresh towels always available. Some days it was difficult to get a lounger near the pool or on the beach but it seems this is the same at every resort we've been to this time of year. Room was spacious and clean. Housekeeping came morning and evening. Mini bar stocked daily. Plenty of bottled water available. Replenished on request. Room service was decent. Not a lot of choices but if you want of need to stay in your room, it's an option. Always came within 20 minutes or so. Bars had lots of choices for drinks and would make whatever you request. 2 days the jacuzzi bar ran out of Jack Daniels. It was available at other bars though. Al a carte reservations were difficult to get. You can book 10 days prior to arrival and they fill up quickly. You have to log in on their website and then go to their app to book reservations. Once there, we asked at the concierge desk but were unable to get into different restaurants. We did eat at the buffet-lots of choices and delicious. We ate at Don Pablo Gourmet, Rodizio which is a Brazilian Steakhouse and Takara which is Japanese. All the food was delicious as well as their welcome cocktails. Beach was lovely. The water is murky. More like lake water than the ocean. Lots of jelly fish however we did see many people in the water withoutany issues. They have signs and flags you can read. You can walk a long ways in both directions. We felt safe everywhere we walked in and around the resort. Lots of people jog, especially in the mornings and you can go out around the neighborhood as it's all in a gated community. Would definitely visit again.
- lindasN2426PX (8/5): First Time- Wonderful - We had a wonderful time at the resort. Very relaxing and clean and friendly staff and great service! We enjoyed the gym everyday. Pedro and Luis D. Are very helpful and knowledgeable about the equipment and how to workout properly each day. Great guys! The food selection at the buffets are over the top. We loved it so much we are going back this year!!!!
Vlad & Linda
- Danlu_Ansan (10/5): Another Great Stay with GBP Luxury Adults Only Property. - Fantastic property, from the food to the picturesque long Beach to the 3 pools simply outstanding. Friendly staff, rooms are nice but the beds are too firm. The pillows could be more soft and plush. The water looks nice but dark and lots of jellyfish. The al a carte restaurant is very good and the 3 buffets are excellent. Overall a great resort with a casino, on site shopping and Grand Bahia Village as a back drop. Adults Only side we would highly recommend.
- U762OFerinm (10/5): Absolutely 10 out of 10!!!! - Bahia Principe Bougainville is absolutely amazing!! Ten out of ten stars!! My partner and I went for 6 nights and it was an ideal resort to relax, have fun, meet new people, eat delicious food and truly recharge!! The service was great; fast, responsive, friendly and very helpful (special thank you to Ronny, Ruth, Roarling, Mavel, Ruben, Waster, Patricia, Mayelin, Eli and many more that we can't remember! All of the restaurants were awesome with so many options that were fresh and yummy! Room was beautiful with a nice patio and big bathroom!! Both pools were perfect - huge and clean! The entertainment was exceptional!!! Everything was super accessible, friendly, and immaculate!! Absolutely ideal and highly recommend!!!!!
The only cons: the beach water is not super clear and we were worried about jellyfish so swam mostly in the pools! Rooms were a bit dated but still really nice!
And they made my birthday extra special with a delicious cake, singing, candles, a sign on my door and what was really sweet was how a lot of the staff knew and wished me a happy birthday!!
- kierancO461NX (10/5): Great employees - Everything was amazing, especially the people. The entertainment workers Caramelo and Francis were the best!!
- H957WFmarioe (10/5): Luxury was the Best! - Wow we had an awesome time at this resort! we did 4 of the ala carte restaurants and were very please with the service and food.
Three individuals stood out for us at this resort. Mariano and Cristian were two of the best day and evening time motivators and promoters of the resort! Both gave 150% with interaction with the vacationers (guests), the poolside exercises, games and entertainment day and evening!
"Mario" the pool side bartender was very personable and knowledgable with the many drinks and variations as requested by the guests.
There was a lot of choices at the buffet lunch and supper which made it easy for those who were picky eater, which I can say some of us were.
The rooms were very spacious and clean. The rooms were cleaned every day and the fridge stocked! As it was an all adult resort with a quit pool and one with entertainment, they definitely catered to everyone!
Oh and we all (those interested) got to watch the Canada-USA Gold Medal Game! Thank you to the staff who helped navigate to the channel!
The beautiful beach front was great for exercising and just walking. the staff were always cleaning up any sea grass off the beach, kudos! However, the water was not very clear due to the close proximity of the nearby river. All in all the water was good.
- Mandyfgyui (10/5): Great hotel . GO you will love it - Lovely hotel , lovely grounds . Staff are amazing . Food was lovely .
We came from a week at the Riu republic and it was awful
Only thing check in wasnt that great , we waited till 4.30pm to get our room but it didn’t ruin our experience .
Thank you to Maria from entertainment , such a lovely young lady who shows care and goes above and behind . She’s deserves a bonus or some sort of recognition.
Thank you to all the staff and management
- T9646KStracyc (10/5): I’ll definately come back! - Entertainment team was friendly and engaging with all guests!
Buffet offered good variety and cleanliness was top notch!
Housekeeping did a wonderful job!
Live music was phenomenal!
- Q1685JYchristinab (10/5): Another wonderful vacation! - This was our third time at the Bouganville resort. We have always found the resort to be amazing, the food fantastic and the staff incredibly helpful and friendly! We love it so much we have recommended it to multiple friends and family. We look forward to to our next winter get away there!
- U4505LLdavidh (10/5): Best place we've ever stayed. - We stayed at your resort from Feb2 to Feb 11 2026. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, I must say it was the best experience we have had in our 10 years of visiting resorts. The staff was very helpful with everything. The resort was spotless and our room was spectacular. The food was unbelievable, and what a selection! The bars we're great, and the servers always respectful! The activities personnel really stood out as exceptional, they we're always so energetic and really took an effort to know the guests. One young man on your staff was beyond amazing, He's name is Mariano, and I'm sure all the guests around the pool and the night activites at the bar would agree this young man is full of life and just makes you feel good!
The only complaint I would have would be with the resturant reservation system. I tried to get reservations the day I arrived for any day we were there. I was told they were all filled, every resturant for the entire time we were there, expcept for two openings after 8:30. It looks like your resort could set some rules to accomadate all guests. Like limit the amount of reservations a guest can make. Some of the guests told us before they arrived they made their reservations for every night, even reserving some resturants several times. No wonder we could never get in! I'm happy for them that they knew this pre-arrival detail but it certainly limited those of us that were not aware of this. However, in no way were we deprived because the buffet was unbelievable, with a wider selection then I've ever seen! And the food was excellent!
- brian9494 (10/5): Another great vacation in Bouganville!!! - The entertainment staff goes out of their way to make your day fun, the people on the front desk are great!
This was our 19th time to this resort.
Special thanks to :
Ana entertainment director
Dina on the front desk
Vincente customer service
Big shout out to Patricio hotel manager who make you want to come back every year
We will be back 😀

- MARIA NIEVES (8/5): Bastante bien.
- 308michellei (10/5): Fantastic - Had just returned from 11 nights stay at this hotel with my partner.
What a fantastic hotel from the moment we arrived checking in was very easy and smooth; room was very clean and everything we needed min fridge was filled up each day clean towels.
The whole of the resort was very clean

Pool and bar staff ( shout out to Mario ) looked after us well m very friendly hotel with hotel staff and other holiday makers, we meet some lovely people
Like to shout out to Mariano part of the entertainment staff such a lovely Man
One thing to say that was a little disappointed was the beach was fine but they do suffer in the sea for jellyfish
I would recommend this hotel which is Adults only
Thank you Bahia Principe

- 176olehn (10/5): Amazing winter vacation - Amazing service, hard working entertainment team, great food, no so good swimming area of carrbian sea , it’s a bay
- LindsayP773 (10/5): Loved all of it!! - We loved this resort!! On the smaller
side, chill, exceptionally clean!! All of the staff were friendly and attentive!! Always smiling!! DeLisa and Alexander were our favorites at the bar and Michel from guest services was so helpful. Food was delicious!! The rooms were spacious and clean with all the amenities!!
- 911pierrec (10/5): Great value for the money. Sunshine and truly outstanding service by all the staff - A classic resort with excellent service. The premises are well groomed and the building maintenance is very good. Though some signs of ageing cannot be concealed there is always someone somewhere fixing and painting, The Adult only section was quiet and pleasant. The family portion of the resort is older and shows signs of wear and the restaurants there need a makeover. Three big pools on the property...the family pool is huge and well attended, the Party pool at the Adult only section is great with ongoing activity. The ''Quiet'' pool at the adult section is just that, large, clean, well appointed and beautifully maintained with great staff on board.
- sarahdT2229FG (10/5): Entertainment staff - Entertainment staff are amazing they work so hard all day and evening to make sure people have a fun filled holiday, the young men and ladies are a credit to the hotel always happy and helpful, hope they get lots of rewards for their relentless hard work
- U8986NKlaurab (10/5): Friendly staff, clean resort quiet or not places to hang out. Acknowledged the staff that work so hard - Good food, clean, beautiful pools, acknowledged the staff who work very hard. No venders allowed for n the beach. I’d recommend for couples only.
- Jens (6/5): Für 3 Übernachtungen i.O. - Strand Ausstattung ist "in die Jahre" gekommen, kein Aufzug
- Markus (5/5): -
- MarloKJN (10/5): Honeymoon 30 Years Later - This was our first experience at an all inclusive resort. It was excellent, from check in to check out. The atmosphere was exactly what I expected, fun, but not crazy. The staff was outstanding. The entertainment was outstanding. Amstar went above and beyond the call of duty by finding and returning my ‘left on transport’ phone. The location was great. Our room was clean with a beautiful view of the pool and Caribbean. Our stay was 100% worth the price I paid. If you want a great time with mature adults Bahia Principe Bouganville is your place!
- lindasE2715NB (10/5): Beautiful resort. - Beautiful resort! Rooms, pools, shaded beach area were all so wonderful and everything very clean.
Buffet has many choices at every meal. Friendly cleaning and wait staff. We ate at the Brazilian restaurant and at the Don Pablo restaurant and both had very good food and friendly service. The palm trees and beautiful landscape will be missed!
- Saulo (9/5): Excellent - Very exclusive, the beach is very calm. Food in the buffet could be better , but it’s still ok.
- 49cheryle (4/5): This is just an okay resort and not what I was expecting at all. - Atmosphere and location are great. This resort needs updates, the brick walkways need some repair as there are several trip hazards if you are not careful on the loose bricks. Rooms are clean but need updating, beds are AWFUL! Most staff are friendly but the pool entertainment staff went above and beyond Mariano and the team made our stay much better. Breakfast was horrible always cold. It was also extremely difficult to make dinner reservations so most nights we were stuck having the horrible buffet then we would walk by the restaurants we tried to make reservations at and they were practically empty. Overall we were expecting 5 star and at most this is a 3 star. We would not stay here again just because the beds were so uncomfortable and the lack of food choices. We always go for 14 days and being stuck with a buffet for that many days is not worth it to me.
- tinytan20 (6/5): Stay elsewhere - The buffet was the best choice for food on site. The restaurants were not worth it. The menus didn't all make sense. We tried the Asian restaurant and it was ok. We walked out of the Don Pablo restaurant and was followed by a staff member who reprimanded us for not having looked up their menu before making the reservation. To make reservations they wanted you to use their app or the kiosk in the main lobby. Neither worked our entire stay and the concierge wasn't much help.
When I checked in, there was no toilet tissue and the tub was dirty. When I called for room service to clean it, they sucked their teeth and didn't show until after dark.
The pool area was nice but the drinks were inconsistent.
I would say the most helpful staff members were the bellhops and the guy that sets up the excursions.
- Karl-Heinz (10/5): - Sehr schöne Anlage und tolles Zimmer
- Shona (8/5): Highly recommended resort - The staff were all incredibly friendly & helpful. The entertainment team worked hard to keep guests engaged. Great location. The chefs were fantastic at guiding me to gluten free food options, even if it was a wait sometimes to get their attention. The gym was great. The pools & loungers were lovely. The sea was full of jellyfish, not clear water. There was no cocktail menu, you had to make up what you wanted. The room walls were thin & I was frequently woken by other guests nighttime activities. The food was a challenge for coeliac disease as nothing was labelled with allergens. No mosquito net around the bed, most bites I got at night in my room.
- R3172SGhannahk (8/5): Thank you Teany - Our housekeeper Teany was fantastic, everything is our room was well done. She did not ever forget to give us water or coffee etc. Towels were always replaced with fresh ones everyday, floor was mopped and the bathroom was always up to standard.
Thank you for a great job and your hard work.
- R5737LWdeanb (6/5): Not good would be mild to say - Needs urgent update of rooms and pathways no mats for sunbeds the hotel is advertised as 5star luxury burganville false advertising seen better 3stars
- WtG331 (2/5): Staff needs more training in the basics - The male front Desk Manager was rude and condescending while informing me that one of my two room requests for 2 twin beds could not be accommodated. He smugly suggested that my two adult daughters could sleep together in the King bed to make up for the hotels failure to provide the beds after many months of email exchanges between me and his department. He has no role in determining any guests sleeping arrangements. He is not up to the job.
Also, a female beach bartender dropped a plastic top in the blender containing my drink, then dug her filthy hands into the drink to fish it out, then attempted to serve it to me, how disgusting!
- Fbsroller (10/5): Great value for an Adult only with the best kept grounds - After a loosing our paid- in-full with Viator Private Transfer(our plane departure delayed and they never picked us up :( and said no refund), we then started an an EXCELLENT week with Luxury Bouganville. Loved the beach area, so spacious! 3 pools to cool off and enjoy our variety of drinks! Entertainment staff super social but not annoying. Lots to do for adults only activities. The foods was so good! The Japanese and Brazilian a la carte restaurants were fantastic. For the price, great value for a great resort. Rooms spacious and a little dated but the grounds were 10+ and service 10+
- Dreamer314792 (10/5): Couples vacation - Top notch service, best I have ever experienced, everyone was always friendly. Food at the restaurants was excellent food at buffet was good. Gym area not great, WiFi was ok, the rest was great. The entertainment people were excellent and full of energy all day every day
- leonardsV4668UC (10/5): What we love and dislike about Bahia from our nine visits - Great Resort and great people. Very disappointed that the catamarans were in such bad state of repair and only one of the two were working and as a result on several days we were not able to book the catamaran. The bikes were in a terrible state of repair with only three of the six working; one of the working ones the bike seat was not tightened and could not be sat on. I have been to the resort nine times because of the excellent people but I'm hesitant to go again if the catamaran and bikes are not repaired.
The food is good to excellent the managers at the à la carte restaurants are fantastic, the waiters and all the staff at the restaurants are excellent, very personable and pleasant . We especially enjoyed the Don Pablo Gourmet restaurant and also the Los colores Steakhouse where they cut the meat in front of you at the table. The Italian restaurant was delicious we particularly enjoyed the lasagna. The buffets were also excellent for large variety of food for everyone's different tastes. If you were there for New Year's Eve it's an extravaganza with fabulous food and great fireworks. Similarly the Christmas Eve buffet was excellent.
One of my favorite aspects of the resort is the Landscaping such a variety of tropical plants bushes flowers Etc all manicure to perfection.
- Cheekychese (10/5): Excellent Stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville - My experience at Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville was outstanding from start to finish. Every aspect of the resort exceeded expectations and created the perfect blend of relaxation, comfort, and luxury.
The resort’s location is absolutely stunning, approx 30 mins from the airport. Nestled along a beautiful stretch of coastline, it offers breathtaking ocean views, lush surroundings, and easy access to the beach. It feels secluded enough to be peaceful, yet close enough to enjoy local excursions.
The atmosphere is serene, elegant, and welcoming. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or strolling through the gardens, the entire property radiates calm and sophistication. It’s an adults only environment, which adds to the sense of tranquillity.
The rooms are spacious, and impeccably maintained. Comfortable beds, stylish décor, and thoughtful touches make it feel like a true home away from home but will require a re-décor in the future and to consider installing lift.
For the level of luxury and service provided, the value is excellent. The all inclusive offerings are generous, the dining options are varied, and the overall experience feels well worth the stay.
Cleanliness is clearly a top priority here. Every area—from the rooms to the restaurants to the poolside spaces—is spotless. Housekeeping is consistent and attentive without being intrusive.
The resort is wonderfully quiet. Even when it’s fully booked, it never feels crowded or loud. It’s the perfect place to unwind, or simply enjoy the sound of the ocean.
The staff is exceptional—warm, professional, and always eager to help. From check in to dining to daily interactions, the service consistently feels personal and genuine.
The amenities are top tier: beautiful pools, excellent restaurants, well stocked bars, a relaxing spa, and plenty of activities for those who want them. Everything is designed to elevate the guest experience.
Having good wi-fi was a big deal for me but this was also covered by the resort. I would visit Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville again for sure.
- PetraL293 (10/5): Fantastic hotel - We had read a few negative reviews and were unsure whether to book this hotel. We are so glad we did! We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The food was excellent, everything was very clean and the staff were super friendly and very helpful.
Special thanks to receptionist Estefy Guerrero. We asked for an upgrade and she was able to book us a fantastic ocean front corner room with a beautiful view and a very large terrace for a small surcharge. This made our holiday truly fantastic and we enjoyed the view every day.
We have stayed in many hotels, but the service at this hotel is truly exceptional.
We will definitely be back!
- Edward (10/5): - La exclusividad. Excelente lugar para descansar 👍.
- B317WQlynner (2/5): Dangerous, Frustrating, and Stressful - Our stay at the Bahia Principe Bouganville was a nightmare. Upon our arrival, the desk attendant was asleep, which set a negative tone for our visit. He took over an hour to check us in, and that was only after we tried to wake him up multiple times. Throughout our stay, we experienced numerous issues, including a malfunctioning bathtub, phone, and air conditioning unit.
Despite having a "do not disturb" sign on our door, housekeeping came to our door close to 10pm when we were asleep and attempted to open the door. The only reason she couldn't enter was because we had used the chain. This was entirely inappropriate and scared both myself and my partner. When we approached the front desk about our privacy concerns they were not apologetic, nor did they take our complaint seriously. It was only after a several-minute conversation did they offer to "talk to the housekeeping staff" which we are unsure if that ever happened.
We found ourselves going to the front desk over three times in an effort to get these basic amenities repaired, yet no staff member offered a real solution until we visibly expressed our frustration. Despite submitting a maintenance request, the air conditioning was never fixed.
The food at the buffet was consistently mislabeled, which posed significant risks for those with allergies. There were only a few tongs available for multiple dishes, increasing the likelihood of cross-contamination. This lack of attention to allergies and food safety should be clearly communicated, as it presents life-threatening medical issues and would have been a crucial factor in our decision to choose this hotel.
When housekeeping came by, they never changed the sheets, only made the bed and we had to completely remove the sheets from the bed to get them to change them.
We booked our transportation through the hotel and their partner Amstar. When we were picked up from the airport they were on-time and prompt, however when we arrived at the main lobby for our return transportation a half hour before our scheduled pickup time, our driver never showed. We talked to the amstar excursion representative at the hotel and he was unable to find our driver, he spoke with the hotel who was also not able to find the driver. He called in a favor with someone with another company shirt on to drive us in what we think was a personal vehicle. This delay almost caused us to miss our departure flight. We only made our flight because it was delayed slightly. This trip was so incredibly stressful, and despite our trying to advocate for ourselves, we never received the support needed to make our trip better.
- LoveTravel673571 (10/5): Amazing resort! - We had an amazing vacation! Check in was a bit chaotic as we were taken to a room that was not fully cleaned, but we went to the bar for a drink and within 20 minutes we were in business. Reception was incredible to deal with - very responsive.
We did have an issue with our toilet not flushing… it needed to be snaked (not plunged) and after 2 days they got it fixed. My friend and I made a bit of a game of going to the lobby washroom for those 2 days. It was inconvenient, but did not ruin our trip. We got to know Mariel Sanchez at reception very well as he made sure the room was fixed!
Housekeeping - I travel to the DR 3-4 times a year and stay in different 5* resorts. The housekeeping here was the absolute BEST I have experienced. Our room was spotless, towels refreshed daily (lovely bath sheets!), mini bar and water filled daily.
Buffet - definitely as good as any 5 star resort. Lots of selection. They rotate the location between the main, indoor buffet (dinners) and an indoor/outdoor buffet for breakfast. Service was great!
À la carte - we ate at all 3 of the Bouganville à la cartes. Our favourite was the Japanese. Don Pablo was also great. The Brazilian steak house food was outstanding. Once we figured out the red/green card system, we had some fun.
Service is all locations was exceptional. Clearly the staff has been well trained. Food quality was excellent.
Bars - there are loads of bars! The Lobby bars (there are 3 open in the evening) were really good. Service was fun and friendly. We never had an issue with seating or service.
The pool bar was really well run. The drinks were great and you could either swim up, or have a waitstaff bring your drink to your chair. The bar by the whirlpool always had a huge cold water dispenser ready!
Pool/beach - I floated in the ocean daily. While the purple flag (dangerous sea creature warning …jellyfish) was up, I never saw one. The water was not the clear blue you see in pictures, but for the last 2 years the constant waves along Bavaro has churned that water up as well. I figure the whole beach is about 2 - 2.5km long and easily walkable and safe.
The pool is great. We hung out at the activity pool, but there is a quiet pool and a huge whirlpool that have no activities, if you just wanted to chill. We never had a problem getting a lounger or an umbrella.
Entertainment Staff - we engaged in the games every day and really fell in love with the staff. They were all very charming and fun, while being professional. We loved Clarebelle (I probably spelled that wrong), Carmelo (not his real name :)) Nikki, Marlise (again, probably spelled wrong) and the many others whose names I forgot!
Overall - the resort was beautiful. It was well maintained and spotless. The service made our stay memorable.
We actually cancelled our stay Jan 7 at the Meliá and booked to go back to Bouganville - it was that good!
- BothwellPJ (8/5): Birthday Trip - We did like the resort. The food was awesome compared to other resorts we have been to. The sand fleas did like me. The staff were wonderful. Housekeeping kept the room nice and clean. Hubby went to customer service and he arranged for flowers to be delivered, they were beautiful.

- AmandaH894 (10/5): Perfect early winter getaway - Hospitality! The staff at Bouganville are absolutely fabulous! The guest services, the bar staff, the housekeeping, the waitstaff and hostesses, and the entertainment staff (Anna, Maria, Claribel, Carmello and many more) all top notch.
Best all-inclusive we have been to.
- Weltenbummler66-8 (4/5): Bahia Principe Bougainville La Romana:The Resort That Forgot Hospitality - Check-In & Room Allocation: A Comedy of Errors (Except We Didn’t Laugh)
We were two couples, staying here briefly before boarding a cruise. For our return stay, we made a simple request:
👉 same building block,
👉 but further away from the bizarre, ear-drum-shattering entertainment area.
Shouldn’t be rocket science. Yet even the Guest Experience Manager — whose actual job is caring about guests — failed magnificently. Her attitude? A very clear, professional version of:
“Off you go. I don’t care.”
Not exactly the warm Hyatt-level hospitality one might expect from a brand that supposedly partners with this property. 😬
Breakfast & Service: Coffee? Seating? Basic Respect?
Breakfast is where service goes on permanent vacation. You can sit among dozens of empty outdoor tables and still not get one assigned. Coffee? You might grow old waiting.
Waiters make awkward noises, laugh about guests, and behave like you are somehow the inconvenience in their workday. Hospitality? Never heard of it. Guests deserve to be treated like… well, guests — not as understaffed coworkers. The whole thing left us speechless. 🤯
Dining: Low Quality, Low Training
The buffet is a “nope.” Full stop.
Specialty restaurants are slightly better, but the service is chaotic. Order multiple starters? They’ll all appear at once like an accidental tapas avalanche.
Entertainment: Too Loud to Ignore
The animation team is enthusiastic but far from professional. The real disaster, however, is the volume. The pool entertainment screams across the entire beach 🤦♀️ — even into the quiet corners near the palms. Relaxation? Not possible unless you enjoy being blasted into the ocean.
Beach & Grounds: The One Lovely Part
To be fair: the grounds are beautiful, the beach is lined with swaying palms, and the loungers aren’t crammed together. The water isn’t that postcard Caribbean turquoise, but it’s fine.
If the resort matched the beauty of the beach, this review wouldn’t exist.
Overall Verdict: Beautiful Resort, Absolutely Terrible Service
If Hyatt wants to keep their name associated with this place, they need serious, systematic training — for management, staff, waiters, and basically anyone interacting with guests.
For us?
❌ Never returning.
❌ Major disappointment.
❌ A one-of-a-kind experience — and not the good kind.
If you value good service, warm hospitality, or simply being treated decently…
👉 Do. Not. Go. There.

- K5916QNthomasf (10/5): Perfect holiday experience - Just returned home from this outstanding hotel
From the moment you arrive you are very well looked after, Check in was very quick and easy i had been assigned a room with 2 beds which was quickly changed to a room with a king-size bed block 53 very quiet and very central nothing was more than a 5 minute walk away
I only eat at the buffet restaurant both morning and evening there was always plenty of choice and always hot
The beach is great for a walk and as you know the ocean is a bit murky and the risk of jellyfish
Everything happens around the large pool where the entertainment team are always amazing and you can participate in the activities where everyone is invited to do so miss Nikki and her amazing team will keep you busy
The night time activities happen in the lobby bar where the excellent barstaff will look after you great service all night and you can also have waiter service at your table
To sum up my vacation which was for my birthday it is in my opinion the perfect place for me to spend it as i have for the last few years and look forward to being there again next birthday
Thank you for hospitality and amazing staff, barstaff, gardener's,cleaners, front desk, waiters, restaurant hosts you all do such an amazing job but my biggest thanks are for the entertainment team we have become friends who i look forward to seeing again soon

- 1460LythamStAnnes (10/5): Another Great Time - We travelled here in November 2026 for our third visit, my wife is disabled and a wheelchair user.
We were greeted at reception by the staff and they had everything ready for us in a little folder and they were aware that it was our third visit and greeted us with a nice smile and a welcome back.
We were taken to out room in block 53 room number 53002 which was a stone throw from the larger pool near the beach.
The room was large with two Queen size beds and a view over looking the gardens. The bathroom was fitted with a rollin shower and wc with handrails on both sides.
The beds were comfortable for us but maybe for some a little on the hard side.
This was as a I said before and nothing had changed the staff in every department greeted you with a smile and wouldn't let you do anything.
A lot of the staff remembered us from our other visits and greeted us and it seemed like they went out of the way to talk to us but I think that is just the staff in general.
The animation team work hard to make you holiday fun and a few of them remembered us and even our names which was a surprise as they must see 100's of people.
The food was top notch thank you the catering staff.
All in all a great holiday.
We will return.
Thanks.
Gareth and Elaine
- Z3434MWchristinas (10/5): Definitely worth every penny!! - Excellent adult resort! Incredible 24 hr room service can access using phone app. Amazing staff, very friendly and helpful. Loved that we could download Bahia app and book our Ala Cartes before arriving. Enjoyed the Bahia bracelet key to access amenities and your room, so there’s no fumbling for a key card.

- elf589 (10/5): Excellent! - This hotel truly belongs to the five star category. It excels in everything. Location, quality of customer care, food, and entertainment. From the minute you step on to the property until your very last step you are indeed in a paradise.
-The staff is polite friendly and helpful
- the rooms pools and beach is clean
- the food variety and quality is beyond praise
- entertainment team works days and evenings to organize various activities and entertain the guests.
I highly recommend this hotel if you want a good quality vacation!!!!

- B4648ZQdavidr (2/5): Lost luggage by employees - I’ll start by saying the trip itself didn’t deserve one star. Most employees were helpful, even if language was sometimes a barrier. But everything changed on the last day—and it was bad enough to ruin the entire experience.
My wife and I checked out at 8:40 a.m. for a 9:20 airport pickup. We were staying on the Bouganville side. At checkout, we asked what to do with our luggage, and we were told to bring it to the La Romana side. When we got there, we asked again if we should leave it or take it to breakfast. They told us to leave it, and that someone would handle it. Tony Fleming showed up, put a label on our bag, handed us a copy, and we went to eat.
Thirty minutes later—9:15—we come back out to meet the Air Transat transportation. The driver asks where our luggage is. We assume it was already loaded. It wasn’t.
We go to the luggage guy, who just points to a pile of bags that aren’t ours. He starts panicking. He calls people. His supervisor shows up, doesn’t speak English, and is absolutely useless. Then Tony shows up—the same guy who took our luggage—and tells me he has no idea where it is. No one wants to admit they lost it. Instead, they start blaming other bus drivers.
Instead of leaving for the airport, we sit there for an hour while Tony runs around making calls and pretending to check cameras. According to him, the security footage didn’t “show” what happened. Sure.
We finally had to leave or risk missing our flight. No apology, no explanation, no ownership. Just panic and excuses. And because of their mistake, we now had to worry about losing our luggage or missing our flight. We ask to talk to a supervisor but Tony Fleming says he's the supervisor of the luggage boys. Not sure if that was the case or if he was scared to lose his job. Air Transat’s employee tried everything to help us—honestly, he’s the only reason anything got solved.
About an hour into the bus ride—three hours after we first dropped the bag—they suddenly send the Air Transat guy a picture of our luggage, claiming it was “in the luggage room” the whole time. That’s some unbelievable BS. They spent an hour looking for it and never once checked the luggage room? Come on.
They sent the bag to the airport, but we had to wait there because they weren’t sure it would arrive in time. It showed up five minutes before the counter closed. Meanwhile, our bag had been out of our sight for nearly four hours. Someone could’ve stuffed anything inside and we wouldn’t know—we barely had time to open it before checking it in.
And on top of all that?
NO APOLOGY. NO EXPLANATION, NO ACCOUNTABILITY, NO COMPENSATION. NOTHING!
It was unprofessional from start to finish—especially from Tony Fleming—and it turned what had been a good trip into an extremely stressful, infuriating experience. If it weren’t for the Air Transat employee, we would’ve left the country without our luggage. Bahia Principe should be embarrassed by how this was handled.
NEVER leave these people your luggages! They cannot be trusted.
