We will be sure to stay with the team again.

- 328franks (10/5): Fabulous Accommodation at the Hougoumont Hotel Freemantle - The Management and staff are friendly accomodating and very informative. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Only a few minutes walk to the train station, bus stops ,shops, restaurants and the market. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Complimentary Breakfast in the morning and complimentary drinks and nibbles in the evening are there for hotel guests. If you are travelling to Freemantle, I recommend that you look at staying at this hotel. Cheers Frank
- Elena (10/5): The perfect location, very clean and quiet. - Everything was superb.
- Anthony julian (6/5): - Good location Fridge was switched off when we got there
Safe had no batteries in to use properly
Breakfast was pretty ordinary

- janesM8601LV (10/5): Fabulous Freo stay in prime location - We loved our recent Fremantle stay-Cay! We and another couple booked this property largely due to the fantastic location but also the aesthetic appeal – we were heading to Republic Gin bar and dining at Vin Populi’s which were in walking distance - and we just loved the little extra touches, like the wine and cheese at Calamity’s next door, easy parking option, the cute café across the road for a coffee, and the complimentary breakfast! The hotel is around the corner from the main Fremantle strip, and High Street shopping area,,,it is the perfect location.
The hotel lobby is really nice, staff are professional and welcoming, the room we stayed in was really clean and neat, nicely decorated.
- Rachel (7/5): A treat in the middle of Freo - Super friendly staff- helpful, accommodating, made you feel special
Awesome location- right in the heart of fremantle. Overpriced for size of room.
- Footprints270798 (10/5): Extended stay in Fremantle - The perfect little breakfast and complementary evening cheese and wine made this a special experience for me, Marco and his staff were most helpful and kind, the rooms & beds super comfortable & spacious. Great location and really enjoyable stay
- Meg (9/5): - Good location in city centre, very clean. Rooms are smaller than they look in photos.
- heinoo918 (10/5): Great stay – quiet, clean and friendly - We had a really good stay here. The Hotel is quiet with no noise, yet still close to the city, which was perfect for us. The rooms were clean and well kept, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast was simple but good, yogurt, muesli, bread with marmalade and Nutella, juice and a nice cup of coffee. Nothing fancy, but everything you need.
Every day from 5–6 PM they offered complimentary drinks and snacks, where you could enjoy a draft beer or a glass of wine together with cheese and bread. It was very cozy and a nice touch that made the stay even better.
Thank you for a great stay!

- wenyukela (10/5): Set sail for great sleep - This boutique hotel is a great base for Freo, well-positioned between the train station and the centre. The shipping containers have great sound proofing and are a charming gimmick in a port city with extensive maritime history and whose most famous sculpture is constructed from containers. The room was cosy but not cramped, with luxurious toiletries and lots of freebies on offer. Highly recommended.
- wifeofriley (10/5): They get everything right! - In a world where hotels are designed by people who never stay in a hotel, this place really focuses on its guests and gets it right. We stayed in a new Haus suite which gave us space, had a small kitchen and lots of storage - you don't realise how much you need a wardrobe until you've stayed somewhere that only offers you four hooks and a shelf!!. It's a ten step walk to the main hotel where the lovely friendly staff have that can do, warm attitude that is missing in so many places you can easily pay a lot more for.
We arrived after reception had closed, but our entry instructions were clear despite our jet lagged brains, and we even had a cute welcome message in the room.
Breakfast is basic but enough, and there are loads of cafes nearby if you want more. Our booking entitled us to happy hour wine and cheese at the small bar next to the hotel - a great way to start the evening.
If we ever return to Fremantle, the Hougoumont will be our first choice for accommodation. Make it yours.
- T6273TYjanew (10/5): As above. It’s a great place to stay. 5 stars. - I loved staying at the Hougoumont! The location is near to fabulous restaurants and transport. The atmosphere is tranquil, with lovely classical music playing in the lounge. The people are amazing. Breakfast was yummy. There’s a funky bar area for mingling if you want to meet people. The cleaning service is great. I thoroughly recommend staying there. My room was lovely. The security is a high standard and it’s value for money.
- Sharyn (10/5): Staff were friendly, venue was lovely and clean. Great vibe and location. "Quaint town" feel. - Staff were friendly and gave great information and advice. Venue was lovely and clean. Well sized rooms Great water pressure and temp control. Lots of eating venues within 1 minute walking.

- Pgw197401 (10/5): The Perfect satay in Fremantle, love the shipping containers bedrooms and Calamity Rods in the evening. Perfect - Yet again, we chose to stay in this hotel, cannot recommend this high enough, if you are going to Fremantle, please do not stay anywhere else.
- leighl234 (8/5): Designer stay - Great position and handy to all amenities and local attractions. The staff were lovely. The room was very small (no room for luggage) but had everything we needed during our stay.
The complimentary breakfast was a good start to the day.
Having car parking available was excellent as we were coming and going at all different hours.
We would definitely stay there again
- B8779GCjodic (10/5): They go over and above ! - We spent two nights at the hotel and had a lovely time, we used the hotel parking also which made the experience very easy as the hotel is so close to everything and easy to walk to.
Marco was fantastic when I called to arrange parking and also on check in. All the staff including domestic were very accommodating.
The room was roomier than expected and the finishings are very nice, great aircon. I would have preferred a firmer pillow but I didn’t ask but I’m sure it would have been rectified
The endless supply of water bottles and coffee was also great. We enjoyed our complimentary wine and cheese in Calamity Rods and also the complimentary breakfast was very filling as included some nice yoghurt and muesli.
- 928visitor (10/5): Great night in the centre of Fremantle. - We stayed at the Hougoumont Hotel for the ‘Fremantle Tour’ package and from when we checked on Friday afternoon until our late checkout on Saturday, everything went perfectly and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. The included breakfast was better than we expected and the staff were always friendly and ready to assist. We just wished we had stayed longer!
- Dimitrios (6/5): Was the perfect location - Location Tiny rooms and toilets and bathroom were very average
- Kim (5/5): - Very small, for the price
- michelleeI8458SD (10/5): Great stay - Great location, nice room size, ours had a massive balcony too which was nice. Staff were great. Would definitely recommend.
- Marelna (8/5): -
- juliemY739IA (8/5): Nice hotel but forget the breakfast eat out - We booked here yet stayed over the road in New Haus Hotel rooms lovely, clean & modern with balcony & aircon TV etc , own kitchen for self catering option breakfast a real let down
Orange juice water tea coffee granola pot plain yogurt blue berries is the only option for cereal (nice for me ) not for everyone, no other flavours for yogurts or fruit choices (apples on reception desk) bread & fruit bread available for toasting various Jams.
They offer a free drink in the bar next door for guests daily 5-6pm comes with a small cheese platter
Very helpful & central. Train station 4mins walk
Breakfast around the corner lovely
Places to eat everywhere 👌
Sky dive over Rottnest, ferry across, high bikes to explore the beautiful bays white sand & cold sea.
Beautiful place, no cars allowed.
- A6869VAandrewb (10/5): Hougoumont in Fremantle - Fantastic 6 night stay at Hougoumont Hotel in Fremantle! Lovely room, great location. All staff showed the level of attention to detail that made our stay with them equal parts engaging and straightforward. Very highly recommended!
- David (10/5): Perfect location, great staff, overall fantastic stay. - Fantastic stay, and a special thank you to Marco for the tips and advise on my motorbike ride I was about to start. Nothing I can think of.
- Y698UDalexs (10/5): Love the Hougoumont - I just love the Hougoumont, and it is my preferred hotel when I am in Perth. I have stayed multiple times, and it always delivers.
The complimentary happy hour cheese platter at 5pm is one of my favourites. It is a lovely touch, and very appreciated.
Sorry, but I have no negative feedback.
- RosarioTornatore (10/5): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Exceptional Stay in Fremantle - I had a fantastic stay at the Hougoumont Hotel! Marco and the staff are amazing, so welcoming and attentive. The hotel is stylish, spotless, and full of charm. My room was beautifully designed and very comfortable.
Loved the complimentary wine and cheese in the evening, and the location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of Fremantle, close to everything. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
- WarrenG575 (10/5): Being a local tourist! - We had a brilliant stay at the Hugo! We recently moved from Freo having lived there for 9 years, actually on Nairn St right behind your hotel, so it was nice to experience it from the inside rather than looking at its rear wall. Very impressed with the service, comfort levels, drinks, charcuterie and breakky supplied.
- niallmcheshire (8/5): Nice boutique hotel, avoid certain rooms - Nice hotel
Friendly helpful staff
Great breakfast(try the fruit bread!!)
Nice touch the 6pm apperative
One downside
Availed rooms at the new haus section that are at the rear of the building
Noisy air con from the adjacent buildings and no sleep if you leave the windows pony
- 344lavinial (10/5): Great Location and Service - Such a lovely hotel to stay at — great location, comfortable rooms, and nice breakfast. Thumbs up to Maricar Loyola and the team for the excellent service!
- KB (8/5): -
- 710leyuh (10/5): Great hotel - Everything is perfect—our wonderful Freo experience included a super clean, quiet room (smelled fresh, no noise!) and great service (staff went above and beyond). Couldn’t ask for more.
- David (10/5): - Wonderful hotel, close to everything with excellent staff
- Elizabeth (10/5): - We were upgraded for free on arrival. Friendly efficient staff. Comfortable and clean hotel room. Great location. Lovely breakfast and we enjoyed the wine and cheese.
- Road43945097606 (10/5): Great stay in Fremantle - We had a wonderful experience at this hotel. It was loaded with character with great staff and friendly helpful people everywhere.
- Kerri (10/5): - We stayed in a State Room, which was nicely decorated and came with a spacious and pretty bathroom. The room was really comfortable. Location is great - convenient and few-minutes walk to Fremantle Markets, shops and dining places. There’s some limited parking spaces but we managed to park there as needed. Service staff were helpful and friendly. Only minor complaint is that the corridors outside the lifts and the floor of our room could be vacuumed a little more.
- Ref05 (10/5): Excellent service, Great Location and extra touches - We stayed 3 nights at the Hougoumont New Haus. The staff at Hougoumont provided the best and so very friendly. It seemed nothing was too much. They even provided a nightly complimentary wine and cheese which was a pleasant surprise.
- donnabG8147IE (10/5): Short, but very sweet stay at the Hougie. - What can I say! From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable. I felt very welcome and all the little touches, from the writing on the bathroom mirror to the bottles of water, were amazing. My accommodation was very comfortable and all the staff were so accommodating. I loved being able to use a bike to sight see. I loved the delicious breakfast. I loved the wine and cheese. I will definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends and am looking forward to my next visit to the west coast to stay at the Hougie again. Special mention to Elizabeth and Gerardo who treated me like family. Thank you for making my short stay so enjoyable.
- Lauren (10/5): - Delicious breakfast, super convenient location. Small rooms but with everything you need.
- Shu Mei (10/5): - Had a pleasant stay! Shampoo/Shower selection is great!
- Ronald (8/5): - Very good location. Staff pleasant and extra helpful. We knew on booking that the room was small but the layout made it ok for our comfort. Only small concern to mention, twice a day strong cooking smells seemed to come through the air conditioning. Only briefly. Breakfast very adequate and beautifully served, ambience great, wine gift very welcome.Distance to Rottnest ferry, very walkable.
- 856maw (10/5): Outstanding Hospitality - I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel several times this year – 7 weeks in February/March, 3 weeks in May, and another 4 weeks in August/September. On top of that, my sister joined me twice: once staying in my apartment for 10 days, and now again with her own apartment. We both agree wholeheartedly: this hotel is a true gem.
Marco, the manager, is by far the best hotel manager I have ever met. Even after many years in Australia, he has retained his Italianity, which shines through in his love for detail and genuine passion for hospitality. He takes care of every single request – whether it’s extra clothes hangers, a wake-up call, or even arranging a special bottle of champagne. His dedication ensures every guest feels truly valued.
The reception team is another highlight. Ella wins you over with her warm and caring personality, while Emma, with her French charm, brings an international flair to Fremantle. The reception is nothing short of outstanding – welcoming, professional, and always ready to help.
The entire staff is exceptionally friendly and caring, creating a warm, family-like atmosphere. The coffee is simply outstanding – available all day and always a treat. The complimentary wine and cheese offering is another fantastic touch, perfect for socializing and meeting new people. The bar is lively, fun, and always a place where new connections are made.
The rooms are spotless, the beds always freshly made with crisp linens – cleanliness here is taken very seriously.
This hotel is much more than just a place to stay – it’s a place where you feel at home. Thanks to Marco’s unique blend of Italian heritage and professionalism, supported by a fantastic and caring team, every stay becomes special. I can’t recommend this hotel enough and I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

- F9619JZsabrinaw (10/5): Best hotel in Fremantle - I recently spent 10 days at this hotel, and from the very first moment, I felt at home. I arrived feeling stressed and drained, but this place quickly became my absolute sanctuary – my personal well-being place.
Although it’s a modern hotel, it never loses its warmth, because the staff are simply lovely. They greet you with genuine care every day, ask how you are, and are always fully present. They even remember your name, which makes you feel truly welcome and adds such a personal touch. In winter, they light up a fire in the bar – it’s cozy, heartwarming, and creates the perfect atmosphere to relax and connect.
The entire staff is sweet, attentive, and goes out of their way to make sure every wish is taken care of immediately. Housekeeping deserves a special mention – they are lively, gentle, and do an outstanding job. Honestly, this is the cleanest hotel in the entire city.
The free coffee is a highlight – not only because it’s delicious, but also because the coffee machine has become the place to meet new people and share stories. Add the complimentary wine & cheese evenings and you quickly feel like part of a community.
The hotel has the best location you could wish for: right on the main street, surrounded by countless restaurants and shops, and only five minutes away from the beach. Simply unbeatable!
This hotel is not just a place to stay – it’s a place to belong. It combines modern style with a warm, family-like atmosphere, making it the perfect retreat. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, and I will definitely be back.
Greetings from Germany
Sabrina
- Nigel (10/5): - Nice nite out in freo
- John (10/5): - Shipping cargo-Great idea,staff was helpfull & great,very clean!Excellent
- Lorna (10/5): - Great hotel in walking distance of everything you might need in Fremantle.
- kyliehF2780QF (2/5): This hotel sux balls! - NEVER again!! Receptionist at checkout was rude & arrogant - seemed like she looking down her nose at us. Very harsh treatment for our 1st time staying here. We got evacuated by fire brigade at 330am - for a water pressure problem?? Back in room at 430am. Noisey all night, booked a queen room & got two single beds pushed close.
Secure car park is a joke, I have dents & scratches in my rear bumper & boot of my car - no cameras or security & again staff flicked me away with a you’ll just have to contact your insurer. No care or consideration given. Do yourself a favour & book anywhere else! Ruined our weekend away - which we hardly ever get to do!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unique boutique - Thanks for taking this first-timer me on board Hougoumont! Quite a unique boutique tucked in the centre of Fremantle (Walyalup).
Appreciate the personalised in-room welcome message :))
Just a stone’s glide from Walyalup Koort (city square), where I had my lunch at FOMO. There is also a library, which I missed in this voyage (but definitely shall try next time!).
Plenty of dining options staying up late. I didn’t get a chance to try the next-door Calamity’s Rod or the QR-distance Emily Taylor. Perhaps next time, too!
Had a restful evening and a restful sleep in the well-sound-proofed, well-appointed cabin.
Blessed with a quiet drizzly morning for a breakfast. The sorrounding views: the narrow courtyard, the artwork, the street on each different side, and the calm guitar setting the perfect mood.
Will definitely drop anchor again in the future!
- Colin (10/5): - This is a gem of a hotel in the heart of fremantle. Totally recommend.
- Sharon (8/5): Well appointed compact room centrally located within walking distance of most attractions in Fremantle - Central location Bed was a bit hard for us
- 692dougd (10/5): Awesome Hotel in Freo - The hotel is in a great location with easy access in and out, and close proximity to restaurants, pubs, shops and cafes.
The staff are very polite and a pleasure to deal with.
- Shaun (9/5): - Location ,Staff excellent more toasters at breakfast
- George (9/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): - Free wine and cheese at attached restaurant every day, very friendly staff, high quality breakfast selection available every morning. Great customer service!! However sound proofing is not great
- Simone (10/5): - I love staying here. Staff are great, easy to fine, great rooms. Close to everything and secure.
- Stacey (10/5): - Super cute vibes and the most gorgeous spot to have some dinner, wine and cheese.
- Alfieis1yearold (10/5): Great hotel to stay in - Had a great one night stay there, it’s such a lovely hotel, the grooms have everything you need in them they are clean and tidy and the staff are really friendly and very helpful . There are loads of restaurants and bars around its right where you want to be for most of everything, I would recommend a stay here
- Regina (8/5): great location and staff small rooms - Rooms are really small hard to fit suitcases staff excellent romms have everything u need and location is e
Perfect.
- Jane (10/5): - Clean room. Quiet. Great breakfast and friendly staff. I’d happily stay there again.
- Peter (6/5): - Like the convenient location and modern clean rooms. Not keen on the free breakfast which is inadequate for the number of guests (rather pay and actually have a decent breakfast). Rooms still good since last time I stayed but disappointed that yet again there was no milk in the rooms for tea or coffee and staff didn’t ask if I enjoyed my stay, merely took back the room key and said “thanks”
- Warren (8/5): Nice staff and location, enjoyable for a short stay. - Situated in the perfect spot close to everything, the brewery next door was a highlight, great beer and cocktails. World’s smallest fridge, no heating facilities to reheat anything.
- Boyang (6/5): Could be better for the price charged. - Not a bad hotel, but facilities could be better for the price point. Rooms are very small with almost no space for luggage. Breakfast was very simple - muesli, jams and toast.
Hotel was clean.
- Adam (10/5): - Excellent location, quiet and easy access to all the Fremantle has the Offer
- Clyde (10/5): - Very good, efficient staff, good room
- Juliet (10/5): - Staff are so helpful and friendly . Location so good
- tobyp190 (10/5): Brilliant location, clean and cosy rooms, and amazing customer service. - Fantastic location and setup. Smaller room size but totally fine if out exploring all that Freo has to offer.
A biggest thanks to the reception staff. My girlfriend and I had already checked-out on the Saturday as we were heading to a friends wedding and hotel that night. The team kindly let us use the upstairs bathroom at the hotel, provided fresh towels so we could shower after being at the beach, and meant that we could freshen up and arrive at the wedding looking our best!
Would definitely stay with Marco and his team again when in Fremantle.
- Rosemary (8/5): - Room was very small and made from renovated shipping containers.
- Cassie (8/5): - This was our second time here. I was unsure about being in the ground floor this time but the upgraded room offered was really great. We stayed for the night tot attend a concert and wished we stayed for the extra night.
Plenty of restaurants and cafes all within walking distance. Right in the heart of freo but no noise.
We will be back again for sure.
- Tiffany (10/5): Wonderful staff - We arrived after a long flight much earlier than the check in time and the staff were so kind and understanding and happily checked us in after the room was cleaned. It’s in a great spot near many cute cafes. Room was clean and well appointed and exactly what we needed. Was very happy with our choice. Nothing.
- Lydia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really good area, and service, small rooms and very hard bed.
- Chelsea (10/5): - Had a lovely time
- Lynda (10/5): - Good clean ,hotel staff are very friendly, location ideal for the shops restaurants and shops
- Kaye (10/5): - A 10 minute walk from Fremantle railway station, and just around the corner from Market Street, location is great.
Ship’s cabin style rooms were a little small, but the bathroom was adequate.
Complimentary continental breakfast of muesli, yoghurt, fruit and toast very good.
Next door to the hotel is a quirky bar where hotel guests were offered a free wine or beer and cheese plate every evening.
Add to this tea and coffee and bottled water available all day and I think this is good value for money.
- Paula (8/5): Very comfortable stay overall. Classy place - Atmosphere- location - great staff - quality design and architecture and add ons ie breakfast and happy hour. Room on the small side and not always made up on our return from lunch for a siesta.
- Russell (8/5): Modern and stylish hotel in a great location - Great location. Modern and stylish hotel. Our room was too small for a couple.
- STACEY (10/5): - Wonderful stay at this boutique hotel in the heart of Fremantle. Staff facilities & service were excellent.Definitely worth a visit!
- emelly (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay. Great location. Quirky hotel.
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- D2714FTjot (10/5): Perfect! - On arrival we were great by the most welcoming people. We had to sort out a minor hiccup but were offered the best option to suit and could not have been happier with the customer service. The room is a great size and very clean. Thank you so much for such amazing service ☺️
- Luke (9/5): Great location, lovely staff, clean and modern rooms, parking, everything we needed - Great location, lovely staff, clean and modern rooms Nothing
- Leigh (10/5): Weekend away - Easy check in - room small but has everything you need -so close to all restaurants and a short walk to the ferry
- H (8/5): Very good -
- Stan (10/5): Excellent small hotel, cental Fremantle location. - Well appointed modern hotel. Attentive staff, excellent service. Breakfast was high quality.
- Damien (10/5): - Beautiful place to stay and love the complimentary afternoon cheese and wine plus the continental breakfast
- Compass09467372551 (10/5): Friendly and helpful staff at Hougamont made our time in Freo a delight - The Hougamont hotel is smack bang in the middle of Freo and we could walk to everything. When we arrived we were invited to join in cheese and drinks down in the bar. From there we wandered off to have dinner and there were plenty of choices within a stones throw from the hotel. On day 2 we had a beaut breakfast down in the hotel lobby then walked to the wharf and hopped on the ferry to Rocknest. We had a great day out and we're back in time for drinks at the bar.
Thank you Hougie
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- 634KenB (10/5): Another great experience in the heart of Freo - As on our previous visits, we were made to feel welcome and valued from our arrival to our departure. The room was spacious and very comfortable and, like the rest of the hotel, very clean. The shower and toiletries were great, as was the tea and coffee in the room.
The Calamity Rod bar just along the road offers a good choice of beer and snacks, with a happy hour and welcome drink for hotel guests. Emily Taylors restaurant also has a link to the hotel and is well worth a visit. The hotel is centrally located but quiet, with access to a wide range of eating, drinking and sightseeing experiences - and you can borrow a bike to get around if you wish.
The free afternoon cheese and wine is a nice touch, offering an opportunity to engage with other guests and share tips on places to go and things to do. Breakfast was relatively simple but most enjoyable - the artisan bread and the coffee are particularly good.
The staff we encountered were unfailingly warm, friendly and helpful. They clearly follow the example set by the manager, Marco.
The story of the connection with the Hougoumont, a convict ship, is interesting and well told.
- 44BrianH (10/5): Great Hotel and very comfortable. - This is excellent hotel with a good breakfast and free beer in the arfternoon. The service was excellent and the room was always clean and well serviced.
Car parking is just next to hotel in a secure location.
The DIY spin class a nice option for exercise.
i would highly recommend.
- Q6512BLlindal (10/5): Great stay at the Hougoumont - We have stayed at The Hougoumont in Fremantle WA twice. Our most recent trip in March 2025 was, as expected, excellent. The rooms are as described, quiet and comfortable and the hotel is well located with easy access to the harbour and all Fremantles attractions. The General Manger, Marco made our stay even better with his kindness and attentiveness. I woukd stay there again and highly recommend it.
- Joanna (10/5): - Lovely place, free bike hire on 3 speed cruiser in good condition. Very bikeable town and trails. Clean, friendly, and complimentary happy hour. Also enjoyed the coffee bar!
- Catherine (10/5): Comfortable and Great Location - The service and location was amazing. So centrally located and the included breakfast was very enjoyable every morning. Would definitely recommend.
- grace (10/5): - Wonderful service. Experienced some unidentified noise through the night and although the hotel was at capacity the staff were able to find us another, upgraded room, to which they moved our belongings while we were out enjoying the local sights. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us over the weekend and were extremely helpful and lovely. Also a great hotel in a fantastic area.
- Judd (6/5): - Considering the price we paid to stay at this property, we found it pretty disappointing.
We had to park our car in the public car park down the road for an extra $40 for the night as their car park was full.
The room was very small and basic. Tea and coffee supplied but if you want milk you have to ask at reception for it. There is no mini bar.
Very central location though and rooms were clean and fresh.
- Prince (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
