Guest Reviews
- Catherine (10/5): - We had a great time at this hotel. It has a big pool and a separate one for the little kids. It has access to the beach and was very quiet and clean. The staff was truly amazing, always helping and welcoming. We decided to stay three nights and really enjoy everything the hotel offered and I think it was more than enough time. The food at the restaurant was great, it included the breakfast but I think they have reasonable prices for lunch and dinner or just snacks. I booked for my two boys, my mom and my niece, we had the bedroom with two queen beds and a sofa bed in the living room, two bathrooms, balcony, dinning room and a small kitchen at the entrance. I think the kitchen area can use some update or just remove it completely, the furniture in general can be outdated but overall was very clean and pleasant. It worked for us because we really wanted to enjoy the beach and pools but be aware is far from the city and not a walkable area outside the hotel. I truly recommended for families looking to get relaxed
- Rachel (10/5): - Very nice
- Samuel (10/5): - The only thing that bugged me was the black water that came out of the sink and shower head when they were emptying some things out. But it got fixed quick after it happened.
- VICTOR (2/5): - Everything was too expensive, the AC was almost not working. No double beds.
- CARMEN (10/5): - Was looking for a family hotel with children’s pool and an adult pool. . This resort had everything. From children’s activity, beach. The breakfast was great and the attention by the staff as well. I will be repeating this. I recommend it.
- maria (10/5): - I just love 😘🤗
- EDWARD (6/5): - The hotel is far away from stores and transportation is very expensive to go to certain locations. The room I reserved was different to the one I had to stay.
- carlos (10/5): - Every thing
- Rasec (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay !!!!
- pedro (6/5): - The entire property needs updating
I ask if they can fumigate the room because we had small ants on the room.
- RON (8/5): - We stayed for 7 days. Too long really but it gave us a few days to travel via land transportation to Cartagena.
Now for my review, it was pleasant stay.! Very friendly and hospitable staff. We had a problem with our microwave..they came right away to replace. Clean pristinely kept room with a lovely view. Desk personnel were ingratiating and super attentive.
Our stay was wonderful. My tips..
You need to buy drinks and snacks to store in refrigerator . It can be costly since the restaurant is the only spot available for any type of consumption.
You are several km away from the center. Ubers and taxis can rack up. If you are adventurous, any easy cross of the main road there are those little blue buses that take you to the center for 2700 pesos. When in Rome..do as the Romans.
Purchase large bottles of water. Colombia seems to prefer selling water at any sitting. Carry with you.
There is nothing outside the hotel walls. Make your trips to the market count. The restaurant is lovely which included breakfast. But it can be understaffed. Not unusual to see people getting their own coffee and silverware from where they can.
The pool, it’s enormous and kept clean. Pool bar for a charge.
The beach, the water is not CLEAR…THE SAND IS NOT WHITE. So please be aware. It’s volcanic and tends to be darker. But it’s pleasant and refreshing and the sunsets are magnificent. Those beaches are available for a cost. Remember lots of families and older crowd. No party clowns! A plus!
- Erika (10/5): - Very good customer service.
- Jovany (10/5): - Se necesita un rótulo con el nombre del hotel a la entrada del hotel desde la carretera
- Lucia (8/5): - El restaurante no tenía tanta variedad, ni en el buffet de desayuno.
- carlos (10/5): - Every thing was perfect
- Paula (10/5): - Love it.
- John (10/5): - The pool and the beach are very close to each other and the restaurant. Also the staff are incredible. Everybody here was very nice from the front desk to the bar to the restaurant.
- John (8/5): - It’s directly on the beach
- Edna (8/5): - It's a nice hotel, our suite was comfortable. I did not like that they charged a small fee daily per person for insurance because the first time I heard about it was at check out. It's away from everywhere which It's an advantage if you are planning to stay in the hotel all the time but not if you have business to do in the city which was our case. Food is delicious, service is good. I am not happy with the spa service which is not really offered by the hotel but another business, the girls that came to do mani-pedi were rude, overall, lack of customer service skills, we had a relaxing massage and it was ok.
- Magdalena (8/5): - The property is clean and safe, the rooms are big and comfortable and the staff supportive and diligent most of the time. Breakfast good. Thank you
- Guy (10/5): Kudos from our whole family, we loved it! - Our whole family enjoyed this hotel. First, it felt safe with guards at entrance and exits. Then, the facilities are great for kids, the two pools and the proximity to the beach. The restaurant also serves great food with a buffet breakfast. We used this hotel as our base to explore the surrounding areas, cities, beaches and Tayrona Park. The four of us highly recommand this hotel! Kudos!

We used this hotel as our base to explore the surrounding areas, cities, beaches and the famous Tayrona Park. We also left our car there for free while travelling by plane to Medellin. The four of us highly recommand this hotel! Kudos!

- Victoria (10/5): - THE FOOD IS AMAZING
- Thomas Lee (8/5): - For the most part the staff was friendly and accommodating Nothing to do on the beach which is closed at night for security reasons. If you want to take a romantic walk on the beach at night, it’s the wrong place to go. The food is decent but expensive for the area. The night manager takes kickbacks from the cab drivers openly which comes out of your pocket because those drivers charge you extra extra to make the kickback back. Ride that cost me 90 pesos going out cost 50 pesos coming back in….. Because of this alone I will not be back. This place is very far away from town and I spent the majority of my vacation money in taxis getting overcharged partly because of the night manager/front desk gentleman. Next time I’m staying in Santa Marta proper, it’s all beach there….
- Luis (8/5): Coffee - All was good….. except coffee was not free in the room. Plus the coffee maker was not working.
- Luceliz (10/5): - .
- KEVIN (10/5): - Great stuff and great hotel , everything was very clean . The only bad thing about this hotel is the location , nothing is around to walk or do anything , is 25 min away from the city of Santa Marta . But in overall my experience at the hotel was great .
- maria (10/5): - Every thing
- Manuel (8/5): - Ghl árelas Costa Azul is an old but well maintained property, exceptionally clean but far from all kind of activities. Good for families with small children, not so much for adults.
It has just one restaurant, not any bars and the food is pretty limited
- Sonia (6/5): - pool and beachfront are excellent
- Mariana (6/5): - It could be better
- Francisco (8/5): - Beach access from the hotel, large pool and convenient bar.
- Ian (10/5): - Staff were fantastic. Pool was great. Nice grounds. Relaxing place
- luis (8/5): - They need more choices at breakfast.
- Juan (10/5): - great service and staff is very helpful. Although the pool is clean, I think it needs some maintenance. Overall, I had good time and would stay again
- Maria (10/5): - Totalmente recomendado. Es un lugar lindo, tranquilo y muy familiar.
- Fabio (8/5): - The beach to small
- Rodrigo (8/5): - Very good
- Gerald (10/5): - The pools were large and beautiful. But the statues in the kids pool are too old...
- Juan (10/5): - Great service and amazing facility
- Diana Carolina (10/5): - It's a really safe and peaceful hotel. The beach is right in front of the hotel. Their swimming pools are also really beautiful. The bedrooms are spacious and clean.
Customer service was excellent.
- Rosa (8/5): - The hotel is located near the airport. I like everything except that there is only 1 restaurant.
- Juan Carlos (8/5): - Nice private clean beach. Great pool. Food service could be better
- Leonor (10/5): - Excellent service, very nice hotel for families the beach it’s great
- Sandra (10/5): - Beatyful place. Clean beach. Only thing to improve is restaurant service, it is too slow.
- Cristina (4/5): - I filtered for hotels with a gym and chose this one. When I got there and asked for the fitness center, they told me there isn’t one!
Food is really bad. Place is loud, since very early until quite late. Difficult to sleep.
- Abrahan (10/5): - Everything was good!!!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Amazing!!!!! Clean !!! Quiet!!!! The staff was awesome , so nice!!! If I could give it 10 stars I would!!!
- Ramsey (6/5): - Good for the price
- Mauricio (8/5): - Nice hotel, with good amenities. Rooms are spacious and clean.
Food is good with variety.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay and service.Clean and safe.Needs renovat - Good hotel located far away from the city so it is a quiet place to rest. Good service. Good food with enough variety. Very clean. Safe for solo travelers.
30min away from city center so not the best place if you want to move around.
Quiet and clean beach with respectful food/beverage sellers.
Some parts of the hotel need renovation
- Verified traveler (4/5): Awful service and poor condition - Window would not close - room filled with mosquitos. Shower door is dangerous and caused injuries. Staff looked and felt miserable.
- Natalia (8/5): - El hotel estuvo bastante bien, el personal muy amable, sin embargo la comida no tan buena y el tiempo de los platos es demasiado alto.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Great front service, terrible restaurant, wonderful amenities, okay room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice place good facilities and statt
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was very attentive. The hotel is conveniently located near the airport. The pools are beautiful. When visiting Santa Marta... staying at this hotel is a no brainer.
El personal fue muy atento. El hotel esta convenientemente ubicado cerca del aeropuerto, las piscinas son hermosas. Cuando visitemos Santa Marta nos hospedaremos en este hotel sin pensarlo.
- Douglas (8/5): Very good - could use some improvements - Overall had a good time here. On site restaurant was convenient. Included breakfast was very good.
Shower door needs maintenance and the patio door lock did not work. Pool was very clean and well maintained.
Has close access to a public beach area. Room had a safe. The elevator to the tower rooms where we stayed needs sensor maintenance it would close on us as were exiting, it got to the point we had to run out of the elevator once it reached the floor
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very close to the airport. Pools were great. Def recommend.
- Lonson (10/5): - I love the service, the breakfast, the rooms, and the pools. The hotel is perfect for a relaxing vacations. It would be nice to have lunch buffet included too.
- Stuart (10/5): Pretty good bang for the buck - My stay was very good I was very pleased with the staff the kitchen was good the food was good the Wi-Fi worked well I thought it was a pretty good bang for the buck
- Paul (2/5): - The hotel is not close to any other restaurants so it is likely you will eat most of your meals at the restaurant in the hotel.
The food at the restaurant is very bad. It was the worst we experienced in our trip to Colombia.
We all came down with food poisoning after eating hamburgers in the restaurant and had to visit a hospital. I have never been more sick from something I ate in my life.
After checking out the the front desk staff reimbursed us for the cost of the hamburgers. It was paltry compensation considering the time we lost on our vacation and the terrible ordeal of becoming violently ill.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The food in the restaurant is awful. You are stuck eating there as there are no other options close by. My friends and I got sever food poisoning and were hospitalized as a result
- Angela (10/5): - The staff at this location is absolutely phenomenal!
We stayed for 2 weeks and by the time we left it felt as if we were leaving family. The ocean and beach here is beautiful! You can see Gold in the water and sand which we didn’t see at other beaches. This location is off the beaten path so you do have to travel up the highway for different food or shopping but it’s very close to the Airport.
This location is very safe! There is security and the front and back gates. Our safety was a high priority for the staff at this location which meant the world to us. We had a phenomenal driver Andreas that fulfilled every aspect of our trip. The ladies at the front desk were absolutely amazing! We highly recommend this location!
- Larry (10/5): Best Place to stay in Santa Marta - This is the best BARGAIN in Colombia. By far, the best place to stay in Santa Marta. It's clean. It's pretty. The staff is wonderful and caring. Always smiling. The beach is beautiful and EMPTY> You can't beat this place...why pay more to be at a Marriott or Holiday INN when you can pay $50 a night and get a free breakfast, free wifi...clean rooms with increidble views?
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful, clean hotel right in the beach with exceptional pools. Excellent security also.
- Sunshine (8/5): - GHL Relax Hotel Costa Azul- Gigantic Room with Fantastic Amenities! I truly enjoyed my experience at GHL Costa Azul and it was an amazing value! Although the hotel is older, they have worked to maintain the rooms and the property. The customer service was terrific, and the restaurant provided a wonderful buffet breakfast with something for everyone’s taste! The pool and the beach were lovely. They have a small store on site to purchase snacks, drinks, sunscreen etc. It is a convenient place to stay if you have a very early flight because it is very close to the airport; and in case you’re wondering, the air traffic did NOT present a noise problem. Just a bit of advice; the property is not identifiable from the road and you may want to have a detailed map and the name of the nearby gas station, if you’re arriving by taxi. Good experience overall.
- Karyn (10/5): Great escape - Great hotel it is near the airport so it is very convenient. But it is far away from any town or city. So if you want an experience where you’re remote and like being in one spot then this is the place. Going into town to buy things or go to a restaurant is a $10 can ride each way.
- Ryan (10/5): - Swimming pool and ocean views are great! Our room was very clean and the front desk employees were very friendly
- Aristotle (8/5): Decent stay. - It's great family hotel. A lot of activities for kids. As for the location it was only 5 minutes from the airport but there is nothing else around there. So if you are not planning on leaving the hotel it's great but everything else is a 30 minute taxi ride away. Even to get something simple to eat. The hotel staff was friendly. The rooms are a good size but the beds were too soft for me at least. And one thing I didn't like is they charged me for half a day because I asked to check out 2 hours later because.y flight was delayed. And they did not need the room for anyone else. I know this because I had 2 adjoining rooms and told me they can only give me one room because the other was taken.
- Dee (10/5): - Liked that it was very nice and clean.
Did not like that they close the pool to early.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Kid Friendly - Great hotel for children, food was adequate and consistent. Room was clean and air conditioning worked great. Would recommend to anyone!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice room - Ants in room was a small problem. Air con worked well, great views, ask for a room with balcony in the new tower - they aren’t damp!
- Micheal (10/5): Great Pool - Nice hotel, large size rooms. The location is close to the airport and on the beach. The ability to walk to town is not a possibility, you must taxi. Nice pool and children's area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Hotel - We really enjoyed our stay at the GHL Relax Hotel Costa Azul. The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly. I would like to give a special recognition to Orlando and Luis who worked at the restaurant for their outstanding customer service.
- Villasenor (10/5): - It's a nice plase, the service are every good, prety close to the breach you can enjoy a wondwrfull sunsets, the food it's so so.
- MAURICIO (10/5): Great hotel - Great hotel. Had a great time.
Check in was fast, great service. I requested on my booking infant crib but they say they did not have the request, however they solve it right away. Room was clean, good space.
Restaurant is a bit overpriced but the food and service is very good. Is far from everything. Pools are great.
- enrico (2/5): Weirdest /horrible experience ever - Enjoying my dinner after a long trip i was approached by 2 policemen in the hotel who informed me that the hotel did not appreciate my presence as they marked me as a suspicuous person and i would needed to pack my bags and leave, after they did a thorough search through my luggage. They mentioned that i would need to sort it out with Otbitz in order to reimburse my payment.
Later that same evening i had a good friend who speaks better Spanish call the hotel to find out what happened but nobody could come up with an answer, the only thing they said was please send an email.
Ridiculous and disrespectful
- lilo (6/5): Nothing to do at the hotel. No gym no spa. - The cleanliness very poor. Hotel far away from everything. No transportation. No gym no spa.
- David (10/5): Very good place - Excellent place to stay. Clean and beautiful. Staff is excellent , pools are good, Jacuzzi is cool, not warm enough . bar tender in the pool is not to professional need a better one......but the rest of the hotel is very good.
- Micilin (8/5): The hotel is amazing for kids! - Swimming pools are great, the beach is beautiful.
Food was really good and staff service very warm. How ever the cleanness of the restaurant during the brakefast wasn't good and either the room, the toilet bowl was yellow from the back. The drawers of the closet were broken. But the room as it self is very confortable. So they need more mantenance an cleaning enforcement.
- Elmer Vega (6/5): Nice hotel but need more options for visitants. - Hi , recently visited the Hotel , is nice , beatiful pool for children , my experince was good but the hotel need others options for the visitants, the cost of transportation is expense for the distance of the hotel to airport , Need at least an ATM in the lobby for the visitant of other country , also have a menu that will have more options with different price more cheap.
The breaksfast was nice , the rooms was clean and the staff are good people. The hotel is alone around if need buy things
need take a Taxi with high cost for other place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel for a family trip to the beach - GHL Relax Costa Azul is a very good hotel, especially for kids, has a great kids' swimming pool and has direct access to the beach. The hotel infrastructure is a little old and some facilities are not in the best condition, but they are making renovations. The food is nothing fancy, but is not too expensive and the menu has enough options for adults and kids. The staff is very kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend it
- Eric (4/5): Insect invasion - I think the hotel has potential but when the room was invaded by ants at midnight coming from two different directions it ruined our evening, the staff was friendly and acted quickly but did not have the proper chemicals to help us , So when we woke up in the morning the ants were actually in our toilet
- Marcio (8/5): Nice Hotel - Poor food. The breakfast is really poor. It lacks options of food. The restaurant is very expensive and the food isn't great at all.
- Sol,playa, arena (8/5): - Great breaskfast and beautiful pool. Close to the ocean and convenient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great for families with children - Hotel rooms clean.
Beach cabanas and sand uncomfortable due to excessive ants. Current was very strong and we restricted children from playing/swimming.
Restaurant had decent menu, friendly staff, and well prepared food.
Poolside service for drinks and food was horrible. Had to reapeatedly go to resturaunt for menus, drinks, food, check, etc....appeared to be understaffed and inattentive to guests needs.
Gross poolside bathrooms. No toliet seat in men's room. Poorly lighted. Musty and smelly everyday of our 5 day stay.
Poolside swim up bar out of service. No drink selections other than beer and wine from resturaunt.
Limited entertainment at hotel and surrounding area. Nothing in walking distance. Don't leave facility alone or at night.
Very secure resort. Security staff attentive and facility well protected.
Severe stray cat problem in resturaunt and poolside. Very odd for resort style facility.
Housekeeping was great and cleaned daily around our schedule to accommodate our stay.
Minibar in room a little silly. Coffee/sugar packets had a surcharge. One beer in fridge restocked daily. No liquor or wine.
Onsite mini mart store way overpriced for goods offered. Ice cream marked up 200% amongst other domestic products.
Room keys frequently inop. Had to return to front desk daily for recoding. No hallway phones to request assistance. Pain in the butt when staying on upper floors in building with no front desk, especially with small children, luggage, personnel item
- Verified traveler (10/5): Welcome to your relaxation destination! - The property was in a quiet area...there is really nothing around. So bring what you need. Very well maintained. Left feeling totally relaxed. There are very few English speaking hotel staff. Having Spanish speaking companions is a *must*. The vendors on the beach are much more intrusive than I would have preferred but the beach and ocean were uncrowded. Staff is definitely focused on customer service...but the language barrier is real.
- Daniel (6/5): Close to the Airport - Terrible Internet service! Staff said that its because I have an Iphone sorry!
Balcony door does not close completely so you could hear a whistle of the air going out!
Besides the problem with the door the room is nice.
Close to the airport and beach front!
- Gabriel (6/5): Gabriel - The hotel staff is very kind, the pools and the beach are great, bur the hotel
Facilities are too old, the dressing room has become a deposit for old furniture, the rooms air conditioning doesn't work well,
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great pool - I stayed at this hotel once before. I like it.
- Haya (10/5): Beach vacation - The hotel is very good . Privet beach , and beautiful pool.
It's 20 min from
Santa Marta , so for different restaurants u need to take a taxi . 20$ to Santa Marta and back .
The restaurant in the hotel have local food . It's ok .
We wear there 4 days. Love the beach and pool.
Staf very helpful .
- julian (10/5): Nice place for children - Excellent place to relax with your family , very quiet nearby
- Fabiola (8/5): Nice hotel, big pool, very close to beach. - It's far from city, there is no entertainment at nights, but the pool are big and clean, close to the beach, we had good time but there is on entertainment at nights.
- Mellow man (8/5): Comfortable stay - Overall a good hotel. Staff was attentive and courteous. Location was good with beach access. Sauna could be updated and the mini market could offer more items for sale (ie. Sun block, eye drops, etc.)
- JITZEP (10/5): awesome family trip - It is a nice and clean hotel. Everything was very good
- Jay (2/5): Not a good hotel - Took an hour to check in. The entire hotel and especially our room was dirty. Beds were really hard and the air conditioning and fan were so loud we couldn't sleep. There were no towels in the room and no hot/warm water to shower. The sink also plugged. The food is not acceptable and the wifi only worked in the lobby.
- Juan Mora (4/5): Not too good restaurant neither hotel staff servic - I went there with my wife and they were charging an extra person in the room... the hotel staff does not allow the taxis to pick you up in the Hotel so you have to go to the street to catch one and the restaurant serveice is good but the food not . They charged twice wrong the meals in my credit card.
The price is too high compared with better options near by.
Regards
Juan
