- rosannep2024 (10/5): A superb restaurant! - We had the most delicious roast lamb for lunch in the restaurant. We had very friendly service and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our table overlooked Tarbert Harbour - a stunning view. Very much recommend this restaurant for a lunch stop. Would love to come back and stay in the hotel one day.
- 528gillc (10/5): Lovely friendly hotel. - An unexpected stay in lovely Tarbert and the Anchor hotel. They made me feel so welcome and comfortable for a solo woman. Rooms are clean and well equipped, although I couldnt find the hairdryer. A beautiful stress relieving view acoss the harbour from my room. Dinner was freshly cooked with local seafood. Well stocked wines. Breakfast freshly cooked.
- Dajtrav (8/5): Sound overnight stop. - An overnight stay before catching the Islay ferry. The booking process could have been better, in that we never received confirmation of our booking, despite a telephone call. However the room was comfortable and clean (though the radiator that had been out of order the previous October (2024) was still not working! - a freestanding radiator was provided). We ate in the restaurant in the evening, and the food, as usual, was of good quality. the staff were helpful and positive.
- T369OZphilh (10/5): 5 stars without a doubt. Staff, management and kitchen without fault. Food should be Michelin starred. Out of this world - Can’t put into words how exceptional the food was. The rooms were well above expectations, warm, clean and comfortable. The staff were fantastic throughout. Check in is quick and the location is perfect. The Seabed restaurant sources fresh produce daily from the harbour catch. Honestly L, I’ve never tasted anything like it. Massive thanks to the team for an unforgettable stay. 5 stars all the way. - Glen (8/5): - Overnight stay whilst using ferry from Kennacraig, check in was smooth, room was small but on the whole very clean. Bathroom towel rail in real need of replacement. Food and service very good and would recommend the restaurant. Would happily stay again.

- O4084IGjohnl (10/5): A very enjoyable and well run small hotel and restaurant. - We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay here. Parking was immediately outside the front door. We were made welcome when we checked in . The room was recently decorated and comfortable although the ensuite was rather small. We enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the restaurant and were impressed by the level of service and enthusiasm of the staff. Breakfast was similarly well served and presented. Unfortunately I left my wash bag in the room. When I phoned about this I was told that it had been found and was being held safely. It was subsequently posted on to me intact. Thank you! We would definitely return to the Anchor and the attached restaurant if we are in Tarbert again.
- Vicki (6/5): - Free on street parking just opposite. Hotel just needs some work - large stains on our bedroom carpet, ceiling tiles missing/damp stains in hallway. Breakfast was nice.
- katm641 (10/5): Fabulous - We stayed here last minute after we were left stranded by a cancelled ferry back to Arran. The staff could not have been more accommodating, they went out of their way to make our very wet and bedraggled children comfortable, providing additional beds, bedding, towels and heaters. We really couldn’t have hoped for more. The food was great, particularly the breakfast which was very generous.

- H6836FZstuartf (2/5): Watch your belongings - We’ve used this hotel a few times for catching the boat to Islay, although there is nothing really wrong with the rooms, I had left my good phone charger in the room on the early set off for the boat, when I called back (the next day after eventually getting through to them) they said they would ask room service but no one ever got back to us, so we had to call back to chase it up, they said they never found it. I know it’s not a big deal but obviously the staff can’t be trusted, I will be avoiding staying here in the future. Watch your belongings!

- X3325QZjohna (10/5): Absolutely superb - My Wife and I stayed for 2 nights and the Hotel was absolutely superb. The room was spotless clean, the food was incredible with massive portions. The owner was lovely and friendly and a very special mention to the 2 young waitresses who were absolutely wonderful. Thank you all very much and we will definitely return
- Andrew (2/5): - Due to an unseasonable storm we were stuck in an adjacent island and unable to reach the hotel as there were no ferries off the island. In spite of that they were unwilling to apply some common sense and cancel the booking.
- craigmacleod8 (6/5): Quick stop over - Quite dated, absolutely no sound proofing in the rooms, WiFi was quite poor. On a positive note, good location, shower was ok, although the door didn’t shut over fully so the bathroom floor was getting wet. I never ate there, breakfast or dinner so can’t comment on that. Parking is on the street and is free.

- GERALD I (8/5): Good views but shabby. - Great views of the harbour from room 1. The room was small but adequate. The whole hotel is tired. Black mould around the shower base and tiles. Appeared to offer a good selection of gluten free for my wife, but after I ordered the scallops my wife's linguine pasta came with gluten, staff realised before she ate it. So they offered to go to the Co-op and get some, meanwhile my scallops were dry and they should have taken both dishes away and remade them. She opted for scallops with no black pudding. So did manage to eat at the same time. They did not charge for her scallops, disappointing nonetheless.

- VELMA (2/5): - I mistakenly booked this hotel instead of Tarbert on Harris. I called to inform the hotel on the arrival date, and they refused to refund either of the two nighrs I'd paid for.

- Lisa (10/5): - Tarbert is such a sweet little town. The castle ruins were magical. The hotel itself - very convenient, easy parking, incredibly nice and very hardworking staff. The meals were SUPERB! The room was in good condition. The bed was a bit on the soft and saggy side. Great view though over the water. Hallways are clearly under ongoing repairs. The dinner dining area is quite nice. Breakfast area could use a refresh (especially that first booth seat). Overall, the Anchor Hotel was a great 2 night stop off for us. Thus has been a magical trip overall and the Anchor Hotel was a delightful find along the way!

- Douglas (8/5): A bit disgruntled. - Lack of lift was the main issue for me especially when I was in almost the further most room away with 4 flight of stairs. Afew things didnt function properly like sink stopper trickle of tap water and veey long reach for bedside lamp switch. The was on thich the TV is hung needs repainting . The food was very good.
- auditt2015 (8/5): Nice view - Hotel is located on the harbour front with easy parking Nice viewright outside the hotel. We were in room 2 which has beautiful views of the harbour. Room was compact as was the bathroom. No where to put personal wash bags. It had a rusty towel rail which wasn’t working. The bed was comfortable and warm once we had located a polar throw to put on the bed as the heating wasn’t working. Food in the restaurant was good for dinner and breakfast. Nice friendly staff.

- Alexander (2/5): Hotel cancelled but no refund. - Had two rooms booked but the Hotel cancelled the stay - received an email that evening (albeit late that evening it was still prior to the stay) from Hotels.com saying it was cancelled. We didn't stay and the Anchor Hotel have said it was a non cancellable rate and refused a refund despite cancelling their end- Neither the Anchor Hotel or Hotels.com seem to recognise that I have received two emails saying it was cancelled despite attaching them to the correspondence forms to customer service. Appreciate it was late and we hadn’t arrived by 11 but still shouldn’t have cancelled before the end of the stay- could have had our breakfast at least.

- stuartpR822SL (2/5): Avoid - One night stay thank god. Rooms are awful. Electric radiator is broken. No heated towel rail so at 6 degrees outside the room was cold. Bed is hard and the duvet was a summer duvet. Dust, dirt and stains everywhere. Bathroom so small you couldn’t swing a cat and no where to put your toiletry bag other than the floor. Extractor in bathroom is just a hole with a towel stuffed in it. See photos. I would avoid it. On the plus side the restaurant was good.

- davidjX3966QR (6/5): Anchor heading for the bottom - We arrived soaked after a lengthy bike ride and wanted to get into a warm bedroom as quickly as possible. There was no-one on reception and instead I had to wait rather too long for one of the overworked waiting-on staff to appear and check us in. The room was cold. There was no information at all so we weren’t able to get any heat with asking further. We were also advised to not even bother with the towel rail as none of them worked in the hotel. All far from ideal when you’re trying to dry out soaking clothes. The tap was very loose and worst of all there was a huge crack right across the seat of the toilet. Totally unhygienic. I mentioned it when we went down again and was thanked for telling them - but it clearly wasn’t going to be fixed for us. The room should stayed unused until it had been fixed. There was also only one, tiny shower gel and one tiny shampoo between the two of us. You get the picture. The food in the Seabed Restaurant was reasonable but was not a patch on the standard when we ate there last two years ago.
- desireed586 (10/5): Yummy food & cozy rooms - My husband and I were cold and wet from the flash flooding we experienced earlier in the trip, and the hotel's locally sourced, vegetarian and gluten-free menu did not disappoint in warming our bellies and spirits! The room was cozy and a welcomed reprieve after 15 hours on a plane and 3 hours of driving in the rain.

Exceptional dinner in on site restaurant. Good breakfast included. Only let down by repair issues in bathroom, crack in sink, shower needs re sealing, rusty heated towel rail, and rusty toilet brush holder.

That said, the mattress was very comfortable the shower was very good and the location was perfect for me.
- Q8825ARjohns (8/5): Great Overnight Stay for Ferry to Islay…… - Superb venue with free car parking opposite the hotel next to the harbour. The Breakfast was excellent and we went to the Restaurant for an evening meal which didn’t disappoint. The Staff especially Ghosh were excellent and provided very attentive service. Unfortunately the WiFi in the Room was absolutely dire and failed to work . We did mention this on two occasions but nothing was done to improve the situation. We did expected some form of compensation for this but nothing was done. This marred our stay and we left with some disappointment……..

- NicE859 (8/5): Great location - Hotel is located on the harbour front with easy, free part right outside the hotel. We were in room 3 which has beautiful views of the harbour. Room was compact and as previous reviews have mentioned the rusty towel rail and poor ventilation in the bathroom should be addressed. The bed was comfortable- had a very good nights sleep. Wi-Fi didn’t reach the room - boosters should be installed to improve this. Breakfast was lovely - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was delicious.
- Sarbat2 (10/5): Little gem of a place - A delightful and very comfortable independent hotel right by the beautiful harbour in Tarbert. The decor is lovely - modern Scottish - and all the staff were really friendly. It was Andy's birthday and they spoiled him nicely, he was chuffed. Jewel in the crown is dinner - we ate here three times and it was consistently imaginative and delicious, punching far abovr it's weight price-wise. The whole thing was amazing value for money. Thank you Ross and team! There are some super things to do in the area - the gardens on Gigha and the mystical, marvellous Keill's chapel just two.
- dugsmum (10/5): Highly recommended - We enjoy an excellent meal here at a busy time of the year for Tarbert. The menu was varied and inspiring and food did not disappoint. Our waitress was new to the job and was very helpful and efficient. She found answers to the many questions one of our group asked, always with a polite smile. Will visit again next time we are in Tarbert.
- maritak60 (6/5): Needs work, very basic but good location - Stayed over before catching the Islay ferry and it’s very convenient for that. The rooms are very basic with dated furniture and quite worn and tired feeling throughout the whole hotel. With some paint and a bit of care it could be a nice destination but I reckon it’s got a captive market due to location so doesn’t need to do any upkeep. WiFi did not reach our room (no 9) and there should be repeaters around the place. Our duvet cover was freshly laundered but had stains, the bathroom radiator is badly rusty one of the plugs in room 3 wasn’t working, just to name a few shortcomings. The staff were lovely and breakfast was good.
- hagan9556 (10/5): Glad we picked the Anchor - Harbour view , brilliant weather meant brilliant view, room ideal size , clean throughout, bathroom excellent with a powerful shower, some tweaks would help lift the room accommodation, a handle inside the room on the wall to help those not so steady on their feet would give confident support, the shower head not the correct fittng for the adjustable mount. Electric connections for mobiles etc beside bed required could be USB for charging as current position is on opposite wall. Talking to the new owner on arrival I understand he has plans for improving the small improvements. Overall we give an excellent as our stay was made excellent with good customer service a clean room and good food.
- HUGH (10/5): - We had a harbour view now normally we wouldn’t bother about a sea/harbour view that changes with a view over Tarbert harbour on a still sunny day and clear night , fabulous watching both the boats in and out and the wildlife

- AmandaMarchant (10/5): Fabulous Food! - Tarbert is sleepy on a Thursday night so we went to the Anchor for a meal. Best decision ever! Staff were lovely, wine list was fab, but the food - amazing!! Mussels were the best ever and the scallops not far behind. The smoked haddock risotto was delicious. If you get a chance , try here - you won't be disappointed!!
- Tim (10/5): Overnight stay - This is a nice hotel in the perfect location for Tarbert, on the harbour. The room was comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. Even if you do not stay in the hotel, try the restaurant as the food was excellent.
- 463joa (10/5): A fantastic stay - We stayed for one night what a lovely hotel. From check-in until we left the staff were exceptional. We had a room with a view of the harbour which was nice. Room had everything you need. We booked for dinner and were not disappointed. Cullen skink and mussels to start then smoked haddock and mussels for a main followed by lemon meringue pie. It was all beautiful and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was really nice with plenty of choice. We visit Tarbert regularly and will definitely return.
- colinkS786DS (10/5): Relaxing and great hospitality - Had to change our arrival time and departure time due to a teenager forgetting to tell us about exams… Ross the owner was more than accommodating and took our last minute changes with good grace and humour. The staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel at home. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice. We’d definitely recommend the Anchor for a stay; relaxed atmosphere, great customer service and a great menu

- DonaldF346 (8/5): Very good value - We arrived after 8pm by the time we checked in and made our way down to the dining room it was 8:25pm - last orders for the kitchen are 8:30pm - we were served! Dinner was good and exceptionally good value. There was a snag with the heating in our room and bathroom. The receptionist gave us an electric heater for the bedroom- worked well although the bathroom was still cold. Breakfast was fine. The hotel was renovated some years ago and would benefit from a refresh - tough of independent operators with rising costs - comfortable- great night’s sleep - very good service - would happily recommend and stay again
- PhilliprWhite (8/5): Great Location for Touring - Just spent two nights at the Anchor, we were in room 3 overlooking the harbour which is great. Our room was compact, lovely bed great sleep. The adjoining restaurant was excellent with a great choice of sea food and well priced. All the staff were very engaging and made our stay a pleasure. One downside was the towel rail in our bathroom which you need to replace as it does not work and is covered in rust. All in all a great place to spend two nights.
- davidjW2793OJ (10/5): Best value for money hotel experience I have ever had! - planned a short motorbike trip through Argyll & Arran with 9 colleagues, staying overnight in Tarbert. Weather & trip were excellent, but our unexpected highlight was our stay at the Anchor. Support for booking was 2nd to none, rooms were compact but modern & clean. Restaurant set up a large table for us, which was fantastic (recommend booking as it is very popular) . The staff were amazing throughout & we were made to feel like special guests. staff from bigger/more expensive places should stay here to see it should be done! If ever back in Tarbert area 100% will stay & eat here!
- dancinggoats (10/5): Best place to stay in Tarbert - Management friendly and accommodating and rooms clean and comfortable. Convenient to city attractions and ferry to Islay. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. And one of the best parts of the stay is that you have an amazing restaurant as part of the hotel. Only negative is that the stairs are steep, narrow and long to get to your room.

Also we did mention that a light on the stairs wasn’t working between the 3rd and 4th floors, it was very dark, alas it did get rectified before leaving...very dangerous...
- Mark (8/5): The view. The View. - The best thing is the stunning view over the harbour and the Loch. The room was comfortable enough and the staff were friendly and helpful. I thought the room was a little overpriced but to wake up to such a soul heartening vista was I guess the reason. Breakfast was very good with good quality ingredients and careful attention to safe practice in these strange times.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Modern re-furbished hotel, right on the harbour, with excellent outlook. Staff very pleasant with great food, freshly cooked and decent bar. Mega money spent on hotel, it seems, but some of the facilities don't work. Broken toilet seat, replaced mid-week but still very loose. Usual problems with crockery and cutlery not being checked for cleanliness after dishwasher cleaning but glasses spotless! Apparently it is very difficult to get local contractors to turn up to do the simple repairs. It was one of the chefs who replaced our toilet seat with one from staff quarters. Overall there was a good feeling with staff who seemed interested in looking after us. One of the major downside is that there is no resident's lounge to sit if weather is bad. Certainly would stay here again as other hotels nearby are very expensive and may be no better.

- Marsaili (6/5): - Had to insist on a hotel room rather then the Barge, which I didn't even know existed until I arrived. Room was very small, various little niggly things were not good, bathroom light broken, no mirror on dressing table,paid for king size bed, ended up with double, no lounge seating area to relax in. However, food was excellent, staff very friendly. Not sure about recommending to others apart from food, staff and cleanliness.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Up grade to loch view well worth it. - On returning to bar at 22:20 we were told the bar was closing in 10 minutes we asked could we have room service and was told no. We said it wouldn’t take longer than 10 mins to pour a wine & beer and was reluctantly served this one drink.
- Georgia (8/5): - The service was great! The staff was friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay a good one. The rooms though small were adequate. The shower was hot and strong; and couldn't have felt better after a chilly afternoon. The dining room served extraordinarily delicious seafood. The entire property is beautifully designed and well put together; clean and softly contemporary.
- Sheila (6/5): - I don't think the chips were hand cut, as specified, they were more like cooked from frozen and some were hard. The white bread very lightly toasted at breakfast had blue mould on it plus the waitress didn't even apologise and we had to ask for more fresh as she didn't bring any freshly toasted after our complaint, she also gave our breakfast to another couple and again no apology.

- Lu (10/5): Lovely Small Hotel - We stayed at this hotel, which is in a beautiful little port, for 1 night on our way to Islay. We were given a lovely room and were impressed with the standard of this small hotel. We ate in the bar in the evening and also had breakfast the following morning, both meals were very good. This is a great stop off point if you need to catch the ferry at Kennacraig and also a great place to stay if you're touring the area.

- paul (10/5): Anchor Hotel - we had a very comfortable stay for 2 nights. We stayed here so that we could take a day trip to Islay, the ferry is only 10 minutes away. The room and bathroom were modern, and the restaurant and bar were bright and pleasant. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
- jan (10/5): Nice hotel, close to everything. - Lovely room and the restaurant is quite good. We had to leave really early to make our ferry, the take away breakfast was terrific. Love the onion jam!! I would love to come back again and again.
