Cheryl (10/5): Had a beach at this Hotel. - Wanted to have an oceanview room with a balcony and easy access to an exit for a handicapped spouse. Breakfast was very good with selections. Got to see Dolphins from our balcony. Better than taking a boat ride. Pool was great and easy parking. nothing.

John (6/5): Great location in a property that could be so much more with only a little attention to detail - Great location. It seemed like the recent investments were quality: deck chairs curtains. The grounds are really well kept. Cleanliness left a great deal to be desired. You can have a property with some age on it and still clean the rooms well. Ours was not and we dropped cash for the oceanfront view. The little things go a long way or don’t in our case when you have a property with some age. Cleaning would have been good.

Just one toaster, microwave not enough for busy times. Room cleaner left our door open after she gave us new towels - what?? We found it like that hours later.

Brent (6/5): - The location is good but don’t let the “only hotel with beach access” sway your decision to stay here. Beach access in Tybee is different but the beach is easily accessible from several points. The room was dated but clean. I prepaid our room on Booking.com. However, when we checked in, we were charged again. The owner did reverse the charge after I brought it to their attention but 1) it should have never happened 2) I shouldn’t have had to bring it to their attention before it was fixed. I realize mistakes happen and I truly appreciate them fixing it. But, when I spoke to the front desk clerk about it originally, she made the comment that she would have the owner fix it that afternoon because he had several other things to fix. 😳 I’m not saying “don’t stay here”. I’m saying watch your credit card. Again, in all fairness, they fixed it. But, it took a couple of days for it to reconcile and that could have really put a damper on our vacation.
Zoltan (7/5): - Location in Tybee and the beach access is great. Matress was old and lumpy and pillows were uncomfortable. Otherwise would have been an excellent experience.
Dana (3/5): A clean hotel, but lacking in any amenities. - It was a good location and very clean. We booked an ocean view room, but it was overlooking the parking lot and the ocean view was pretty far away. We had a balcony but didn’t use it - felt like we were on display to everyone. The building was old and you had to use the old elevator - or go up some very dark stairs - to get to the office. The ice machine was in the stairwell, which made it stifling. The continental breakfast was pretty lame…some bagels and danishes, and cold cereal. Not even a waffle machine. They had pre-packaged waffles with large globs of sugar in them. Not very appetizing. Our floor was open to the breakfast area and front desk below, which made it pretty loud at night, since the desk was open 24/7.

It didn't seem like it was a priority to get it fixed. Also I had looked at photos of desoto gardens and it was the same address and assumed it was the same place. We did not see any garden areas or even a sign for desoto gardens. That was part of the reason I chose the property, a little disappointed

Had to stand there and wait for 15 minutes due to the receptionist being in the bathroom....washing up while her son was sitting in the dining area bringing her new clothes to put on and yelling at her to hurry up. Wasn't a good first impression.

Mignon (7/5): Overall good stay for so close to the beach. - Breakfast was basic but good. The location right on the beach was fantastic. Furniture was updated and beds very comfortable. The hotel is old. Bathrooms have been attempted to be updated and is poorly done.

Robert (10/5): We were happy and if we visit Tybee again, this will be our hotel. - The beach is beautiful. We liked that the DeSoto was a bit away from all the hubbub around 14th to15th. We rented bikes and that was our mode of transportation for our stay because parking is tight, taken,and you have to pay to park down there. We requested towels after setting out used ones and never received them. We had to raid a laundry cart we saw in the parking lot.

Rachel (10/5): A gem of a stay on Tybee Island - The staff were amazing—very friendly and helpful. The location was as advertised—right on the beach. The outdoor pool was heated which meant we got a January swim in. What fun! Nothing. It was a great stay!

The bed linens were coarse and the towels were too. I ask about getting a towel to use at the pool. I was told I would have to buy one. I declined and that's ridiculous. For the price of the room it had a balcony facing the dumpsters...not good. The hot water was off and on. The best part was the nice staff.

Marshall (9/5): It was a nice hotel and quiet, we had a view of the beach if we looked out and to the left. - The room was nice, it was clean and I liked that the shower and the toilet where seperate from the sink. The sink counter was located a bit too high. I am 4' 10" and I had to tiptoe to spit far enough back in the sink or it to go down the drain. If you have a small child you would have to hold them up or pull a chair over for them to reach the sink. It was 25 minutes from Savannah so it was quiet and not a lot of traffic. I liked that we had a hightop table out on the balcony so if we sat out there we could see the ocean where the dune walkway was. I would have liked a direct view but there was also dunes all along the beach. The day we arrived it was 77 and we did get to walk on the beach after that the weather dropped. The breakfast was all packaged items, including the waffles. Most hotels I have stayed in have the belgian waffles you use a waffle maker and have them fresh. I would have liked a metal railing on the balcony instead of the wall so we could see the ocean from inside the room.

Anna (5/5): Will definitly select a different hotel when visiting Tybee Island - The island and the location of the hotel to the beach. Very strange scent in the room that carried into my clothes when I returned home. Hotel is very dated, Location is perfect by the beach. Night 1 of our stay was very quiet, Day 2 had the family from hell as our hotel neighbor next door. I had to turn on white noise to muffle out screaming kids from the late hours of the evening to very early morning. When I checked out and asked the receptionist for a receipt of my stay, she indicated since I booked through booking.com that I would have to retrieve it from booking.com. This is simply not true as I always book from booking.com for all of my hotel accommodations and have always been provided a receipt. Breakfast was terrible, no hot food items. Frozen sausage sandwiches in a bag to microwave.

Friendly, patient, helpful, available and patient staff all around. From the groundskeeper guy in the evenings to the cleaning ladies, they really truly were the best and most understanding during our stay! Coke machine wouldn’t take cash while display red cash only. Tried all +-8 bills I had. Ice machine wasn’t giving enough ice. Some cleanliness attention needed around the nightstand. An exhaust fan in the restrooms would be a necessity for the smells generated and steam from showers!

Beds were very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again! Very small parking lot of you drive a large truck.
